What Happened to Merry Christmas?
I see Merry Happy Gift Shop and Merry Happy other titles but dont tell me HSNis now taking Christmas out of the Holiday?
Huh? Where did it go?
P.S. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR WONDERFUL COMMENTS ABOUT CHRISTMAS! YES, IT’S ALL ABOUT HIM!!! (JESUS) IN TRYING TO BE "POLITICALLY CORRECT", WE’VE JUST GOTTEN STUPID. P.S. WE TOOK PRAYER OUT OF SCHOOLS & WE SEE ON THE NEWS ALMOST DAILY WHERE THAT’S GOTTEN US. SADLY. MY HEART ACHES FOR THE VICTIMS & THEIR FAMILIES.
We live in a PC society now. You always have to watch everything you say.
This topic shows up every holiday season. I don’t care if you wish me Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays or Happy Hanukah. I’ll always say "thank you."
"Happy Holidays" and "Seasons Greetings" have been around forever. I remember seeing them written on store windows when I was a little girl.
I guess big companies are trying to encompass all faiths during the "Christmas" season. Not everyone celebrates Christmas.
I will continue to say Merry Christmas…I have been saying it for years….no reason to stop now….I’m suppose to stop saying it because it offends someone? Well I’m offended that I can’t say it……and no disrespect to anyone…
It seems to me that HSN is just wanting to cover all their bases… as Toby implied… and, as well they should.
Merry as in ‘Merry Christmas’ is still getting top-billing over Happy as in ‘Happy Chanukah’ and ‘Happy Holidays’… so… what’s the problem? *lol*
It is only October, and we are already seeing this? Ever sine an alleged "news" channel started this a few years ago, people seem to have lost all ability to think for themselves.
First, the phrase "Happy Holidays" has been used for decades (remember the song "Happy Holidays"?). It expresses a common feeling starting this time of year beginning in October, generally with the start of Halloween, through Thanksgiving, Advent, Solstice, Chanukah, Christmas, New Year’s, and Epiphany. It truly encompasses an entire holiday season, and many people use it to include all holidays as well as those who may not celebrate just one particular holiday.
No one is forcing anyone to stop wishing people a "Merry Christmas." Those who wish to do so may do so. Just as so many people seem to be offended (including posters here) because they are under the mistaken impression that they are not allowed to mention the holiday, it is also wrong to threaten others who prefer not to wish it. Refusing to shop at a place because of it is silly. Just as I would never be offended by someone who wished me a "Merry Christmas" (I celebrate Chanukah), I do not, for the life of me, understand the mentality of those offended by "Happy Holidays."
If this holiday is so important to you, you should celebrate it. The meaning of the holiday does not
rise of fall based upon others’ beliefs in it. Living in a free society with freedom of religion means that we are free to practice our faith as we see fit. It does not mean, in any way, that others must somehow act as we wish because our religion says they must.
Sorta sad isn’t it.
If they want me to shop for Christmas gifts they better say Christmas !!!
