The HSN family must really have bad luck. Joy just said it happened 4 times to her. Shannon Smith, Marlo, Helen, all have been RFID ripped off. You may want to think about carring cash there in Flordia. lol
Wait now Joy’s daughter just said it happened to her husband. oh dear me sakes.
I just spoke to my credit card company service rep and she told me that it’s not the chip that is being scanned it’s the magnetic strip on the back of the card that holds all your information that is being scanned.
We are being scared into believing that it is the chip in/on the front of the card that is being scanned. That is not what I was told 5 minutes ago on the phone. In my opinion, it is the credit card company’s that know more about what is being scanned than a vender trying to make a sale. Yes, it is better to be safe than sorry I agree with that. I have a full RFID wallet and RFID handbag from QVC and the RFID sleeves from the Container Store. But I wish the information was going out to us correctly for safety sake and not to just follow half-cocked information to make a buck.
I was also told that my credit card company definitely monitors who I shop with and if they notice a deviation in purchase place they put the purchase on hold and notify me. That’s what I’m talkin’ bout. Since I don’t use my card outside the house 99.999% of the time they know my purchase habits online and they know to holla at a sista if things look raggedy. Also, I go online to my CC account and check the purchases regularly.
I appreciated all of your comments and decided to give my CC company a call and ask questions about this new chip on my card. It’s actually there for safety purposes. I was also told that there is a new card coming eventually (it’s a slow process) that will not have the magnetic strip on the back of it. It’s an entirely new CC process that’s going to take time and as she said just as soon as they make something new to protect us the crooks will figure out a way to get by it.
Try not to walk around with all or any of your credit cards. I know that may seem impossible for some people but in my opinion it really is just a habit that can be broken. Cash still really is a beautiful thing. I walk around with cash, my Debit card, State ID card and Medical Insurance card which none of them have that chip in them but I still have them in my RFID wallet!!
Hope I shared some worthy info.
I was hacked once- and it’s not the pain to remedy as they explained. There’s so many security checks with my credit cards, my credit card company is the one that advised me! They credited me immediately and mailed me new cards.
Having the extra security checks can be a pain sometimes, they’ll decine your credit card for any unusual activity and then you have to call in to get the purchse approved. But I prefer that over the alternative.
I bought sleeves on Amazon for next to nothing- a pack of 25 for under $10. I didn’t want to get special wallets and/or handbags. It’ll probably be a new chip to guard in a few years besides!
They sold me on buying the sleeves. Those were such a pain. Then I bought my husband a wallet and he likes it. Then I bought a purse (not sure if it’s HSN or not). It isn’t a wallet – but a small purse with a long strap to wrap around your neck. The entire purse is RFID proof. I love it. I’m not sure now that I read this what my Credit Cards really are. I have to check into that. But I love the little purse because I have been one that has carried a huge purse like forever – with my little purse I have only what I need – room to still put a pair of glasses in it and then some, and I’m hands free no matter where I go. And my neck certainly has appreciated it also as I have neck issues and carrying a large purse around it wasn’t doing me much good. I know stealing ID’s is very simple for those in the know but it does indeed seem very odd that so many of the hosts have been attacked. I do not know of anyone personally that has been attacked. I know people that know of other people. Sounds like there just might be a little “over the top salesmanship” going on here!)
This is no joke!! I have had credit cards for over 40 years, and not one has been hacked until the last year. Since getting these RFID chip cards , I’ve had three of my credit cards hacked. It has been such a pain having them replaced constantly and having to inform direct withdrawal businesses that have my card on record that they need to change the number again!
So now all I use are RFID wallets, and shop more with cash. The times are changing. You may be lucky right now, but the chances of your credit card or others with chips ( these can be hacked if you shop online with them) is tremendous !! Get a RFID wallet even if it’s not Joy’s. Personally the price of her bags with RFID clutch is phenomenal!
Most cards r EMV, not RFID. Out of all the cards I have, and I have a lot, only ONE is RFID. I don’t like how the hosts and guests make it sound like EVERY credit card now has RFID, bc it is not true. Just bc a card has a chip does not mean it is RFID. It could be an EMV chip, and then ur fine. The RFID chip cards have a wavelength symbol on them, so u can tell the difference. I learned this from another person on the Community. I wish HSN would stop trying to freak us out w their stories. How many RFID bags, wallets, and slip covers have they sold w their dishonest selling tactics?
To me it’s just a scare tactic to sell expensive RFID protection.
If so many show hosts have had their info stolen..maybe it’s happening within the walls of HSN???:catwink:
Years ago even before RFID..I was told by someone in banking to line our wallets with tin foil covered in duct tape..
Maybe we are just lucky that we’ve never had a problem.
Again this is JMO.
I’m really surprised. I don’t have any cards with RFID.
