I created and started this thread 13 years ago in March. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŽˆ

I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. โœจ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. ๐ŸŒนโœจ๐Ÿ˜ŽI have been shopping and posting on HSN since the late
90โ€™s ๐Ÿ˜ŽI have wonderful memories from the HSN we all know and love.

      @sheba2011

Left the house early yesterday and went a different route to the Farmer’s Market. They had the candy strawberries on sale and I purchased quite a few to give to the nurses and aides and also set one aside for hubs. Also found Southern fried chicken which I could not wait to try. It was the best yet and you need to remember that heading North we make stops along the way just for that. Their homemade soups I also bought. Hubs got the potato and I had the clam chowder. I just wish womeone would make the Rhode Island clear. That one I cannot wait to enjoy. I also found a small vase of flowers. Hubs gasped when he saw them. He was happy. He fell asleep after dinner and I did the same in the chair. Not used to 80 degree weather. So that was yesterday. Today is laundry and opening some boxes that are by the front door. Will not visit hubs today. Tomorrow I may spring for some Asian food.

Storms are coming in now so I figured better shoot this off quick. Tornado watches all around.๐ŸŒช๏ธ

Been taking it easy today as I planned. I want new stools for my kitchen so browsed online. Watching some hockey and golf with hubs. Making hamburgers for dinner with some potato salad.๐Ÿ”๐Ÿฅ” We will have a picnic in the middle of the storms, lol!

Sis called this morning after she got on the second ship. She sounds relaxed and is enjoying the trip.๐Ÿ›ณ๏ธ

    Flowers
    Song by Miley Cyrus

We were good, we were gold
Kinda dream that can’t be sold
We were right ’til we weren’t
Built a home and watched it burn
Mm, I didn’t wanna leave you, I didn’t wanna lie
Started to cry, but then remembered I
    I can buy myself flowers
Write my name in the sand
    Talk to myself for hours
    Say things you don’t understand
    I can take myself dancing
And I can hold my own hand
Yeah, I can love me better than you can
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
    Paint my nails cherry red
Match the roses that you left
    No remorse, no regret
I forgive every word you said
Ooh, I didn’t wanna leave you, baby, I didn’t wanna fight
Started to cry, but then remembered I
    I can buy myself flowers
Write my name in the sand
Talk to myself for hours, yeah
    Say things you don’t understand
I can take myself dancing, yeah
I can hold my own hand
Yeah, I can love me better than you can
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
Can love me better, I- (ooh, I)
    I didn’t wanna leave you, I didn’t wanna fight
Started to cry, but then remembered I
I can buy myself flowers (uh-huh)
Write my name in the sand
Talk to myself for hours (yeah)
Say things you don’t understand (you never will)
I can take myself dancing, yeah
I can hold my own hand
Yeah, I can love me better than
Yeah, I can love me better than you can
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby (oh, oh)
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby (than you can)
Can love me better, I can love me better, baby
    Can love me better, I-

      DAY OF THE DUDE

Welcome to the Day of the Dude, where we celebrate Dudeism each year for an entire day on March 6. If you aren’t familiar with Dudeism, you’re probably not a dude or watched the film The Big Lebowski (1998). Getting worked up about not knowing what today is goes against the rules of celebrating today’s National Day. The first rule of Dudeism is to sit back, relax, and go with the flow.

Dresses have been worn for hundreds of years. Today, they come in a variety of shapes and designs. From long, mini, fit, and flare to the ball gown and A-line, there are many ways to celebrate. Throughout the years, dress designs have changed drastically! However, they still provide a distinctive look and one-of-a-kind fit adding a level of poise and confidence to any event.

On our most important days, we seek out the perfect dress made for the occasion. Whether it is prom, an interview, a first date, or a big wedding day, National Dress Day will give us all a reason to relive some of our dearest memories. We invite you to celebrate National Dress Day with us on March 6th.

      America
      Song by Neil Diamond

      Far
      We’ve been traveling far
      Without a home
      But not without a star
      Free
      Only want to be free
      We huddle close
      Hang on to a dream
On the boats and on the planes
      They’re coming to America
      Never looking back again
      They’re coming to America
      Home
Don’t it seem so far away
      Oh, we’re traveling light today
In the eye of the storm
In the eye of the storm
      Home
To a new and a shiny place
Make our bed and we’ll say our grace
      Freedom’s light burning warm
      Freedom’s light burning warm
      Everywhere around the world
      They’re coming to America
      Every time that flag’s unfurled
      They’re coming to America
Got a dream to take them there
      They’re coming to America
Got a dream they’ve come to share
      They’re coming to America
      They’re coming to America
      They’re coming to America
      They’re coming to America
      They’re coming to America
      Today, today
      Today, today, today
My country ’tis of thee (today)
      Sweet land of liberty (today)
      Of thee I sing (today)
      Of thee I sing
      Today, today, today
      Today, today, (today, today)

Enjoying Neil Diamond on this cold and rainy night. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

      Neil Diamond Lyrics
      “Love On The Rocks”

Love on the rocks ain’t no surprise
      Pour me a drink,
And I’ll tell you some lies
      Got nothing to lose,
So you just sing the blues, all the time

Gave you my heart, gave you my soul
      You left me alone here
      With nothing to hold
      Yesterday’s gone
Now all I want is a smile

First they say they want you
      How they really need you
Suddenly you find you’re out there
      Walking in a storm

When they know they have you
      Then they really have you
Nothing you can do or say,
You’ve got to leave, just get away
      We all know the song

      You need what you need
You can say what you want
      Not much you can do
      When the feeling is gone
      May be blue skies above,
      But it’s cool
When your love’s on the rocks

First they say they want you
      How they really need you
Suddenly you find you’re out there
      Walking in a storm

And when they know they have you
      Then they really have you
Nothing you can do or say
You got to leave, just get away
      We all know the song

      Love on the rocks
      Ain’t no big surprise
      Just pour me a drink
And I’ll tell you my lies
      Yesterday ‘s gone
      Now all I want is a smile…..

      Neil Diamond Lyrics
      “You Got To Me”

Mama she always told me it would happen
      But she never said
That it would happen like this
      Papa said,
“Some little girl’ll catch you nappin’
Some little girl will get to you with her kiss”

      You got to me
You brought me to may knees
Never thought I’d say please, girl
      You got to my soul
You got control you got to me,
      You got to be mine

      Used to slip
Though every girl’s hand like water
      There never was one
Who could ever tie me down
Straight ahead and steady as Gibraltar
‘Til you brought me tumblin’ to the ground

      You got to me
You brought me to may knees

      NATIONAL ABSINTHE DAY

March 5th is also known as National Absinthe Day. This day is for those who are 21 years or older to celebrate a drink called absinthe.

Often mistaken for a liqueur, it is truly a spirit because it isn’t sweetened. It belongs to the vodkas, gins, and whiskeys when categorizing absinthe.

The spirit is made by infusing wormwood, fennel, anise, and other herbs into alcohol through distillation. Pierre Ordinaire, a French doctor, is credited with the creation of absinthe. He developed and prescribed the elixir in the early 19th century as a cure for many illnesses.

It has a strong licorice flavor to it and has a high alcohol content. The spirit is often served with ice, a sugar cube placed on a slotted spoon over the glass, and water poured over the sugar.

Also known as the Green Fairy, the Green Goddess, or the Green Lady, the drink was popular with artists and writers. It was also once rumored to have hallucinogenic effects. Just as it was gaining popularity, its reputation took some severe blows as the century was coming to a close.

France banned the drink, and other countries soon followed. In the United States and around the world, the ban has since been lifted.

Studies have proven there is nothing hallucinogenic about the drink. Absinthe does have a higher alcohol content than other spirits, so keeping that in mind is important to drink responsibly.

Andrew Roy Gibb (5 March 1958 โ€“ 10 March 1988). He was an English singer and musician. He rose to international fame in the late 1970s as a teen idol and pop star. The younger brother of Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees, Gibb achieved major success in close collaboration with his brothers. He was the first solo artist to have his first three singles reach number one on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Born in England and raised in Australia, Gibb began performing professionally in his teens before moving to the United States, where he signed with RSO Records. His debut album, Flowing Rivers (1977), produced three US number-one singles: “I Just Want to Be Your Everything,” “(Love Is) Thicker Than Water,” and “Shadow Dancing,” the last of which also topped charts internationally and became his signature song. His subsequent albums, Shadow Dancing (1978) and After Dark (1980), further cemented his popularity.
In the early 1980s, Gibb expanded into theater and television, starring in productions of The Pirates of Penzance (1981) and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1982), and co-hosting the music show Solid Gold (1981โ€“82). However, his career was disrupted by substance abuse and depression, leading to declining commercial success. In 1988, just days after his 30th birthday, Gibb died from myocarditis, exacerbated by years of drug use.
By late January to early February in 1988, Gibb had seemingly beaten his drug addiction, regained his health, and was ready to begin recording a new album; however, he still suffered depression over his break-up with Victoria Principal. According to Robin Gibb, his brother “just went downhill so fast… he was in a terrible state of depression”. During this period, Gibb slipped back into alcoholic habits, and was receiving phone calls from brothers Maurice and Barry in a last-ditch effort to get Gibb to stop. On 5 March 1988, Gibb celebrated his 30th birthday in London while working on the new album. Two days later, he entered John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford complaining of chest pains.
At around 8:30 am on 10 March 1988, Gibb’s doctor informed him more tests were needed to determine the cause of his chest pains. Shortly afterward, Gibb slumped into unconsciousness and died five days after his 30th birthday as a result of myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle most likely caused by a virus. Years of cocaine use also weakened his heart. This diagnosis was supported by William Shell, a cardiologist who previously treated Gibb.
Upon the announcement of Gibb’s death, his ex-wife, Kim Reeder, was not surprised. “I always knew that one day I’d get a call with news like this. It was only a matter of time.” Gibb’s family said the cause of death was not an overdose, as some media reports suggested, but natural causes after years of substance abuse.[

      @sheba2011

Today was beauty day and I am now home and getting ready to venture out. Before I forget, I need to thank you for the raindrops yesterday. It was more than a sprinkle and the plants never looked happier. It was a total surprise. About an hour prior to leaving to see hubs, the sky started to darken. Being near to Alexa I asked if there was a chance for rain. Her reply, “no rain expected today.” On route, we had a downpour that lasted over an hour. I was never so happy. More of the same in about an hour. So I will get a move on.

There is another warning about plummeting temps sometime next week. So far the temps look like they will be in the 80s all next week with the 60s being the evening lows. I wonder if this will be another ha ha moment.

Also tried to make a stop at the Farmer’s Market. No way. The driveway was blocked by a construction crew trying to redo the roadway. Too lazy to try a U turn to venture into the parking lot another way. Tomorrow is another day.

Happy WomensHistoryMonth! โœจ For 30 years, the NWHM has worked to ensure that womenโ€™s history is visible, accessible, and fully integrated into the story of our nation.

This month (like every month!), we’re excited to engage with our communities through virtual programming, amplify women’s achievements across all fields, and spotlight lesser-known trailblazers, including:

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Susette LaFlesche Tibbles (Bright Eyes), an Omaha woman who spent her entire life tirelessly campaigning for Native American rights as a speaker, activist, interpreter, and writer
๐Ÿ“ฐ Nellie Bly, whose undercover reporting not only raised awareness about mental health treatment and led to improvements in institutional conditions, but also ushered in an age of investigative journalism
๐Ÿชธ Joan Murrell Owens, the first Black woman marine biologist, geologist, and paleontologist who discovered a new genus of button coral
๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ Laura M. Esquivel, a lifelong activist and cofounder of Latino(a) and Organization (LLEGร“) who’s often referred to as โ€œLa Madreโ€ of the Latino LGBTQ+ movement
๐Ÿ—ฝ Emma Lazarus, a Jewish American writer and activist whose words โ€œGive me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,โ€ are almost as well-known as the Statue of Liberty they’re engraved on
๐ŸŽจ Edmonia Lewis, the first professional Black and Native American sculptor in the U.S. who used her art to depict the stories of women and Indigenous people with reverence and beauty
โš–๏ธ Sylvia Mendez, who, at age 8, played an instrumental role in Mendez v. Westminster, the landmark 1946 case that successfully ended de jure segregation in California

Now I know why I miss Boston so much. So many fond memories joining a men’s fraternity to sing Christmas Carols until we reached the home of the college President where he and his wife served homemade tea sandwiches, hot chocolate and other wonderful goodies. His home was in Backbay which is similar to the picture above. However, his was on a steep hill. There was no snow on the ground at the time. But it was very cold about a week prior to Christmas break.

      NATIONAL SONS DAY

Every year on March 4th, National Sons Day honors the sons of the world and those who raise them. The day also takes a look at a son’s role and his relationship with those around him.

Around the world, slightly more sons are born than daughters. Both bring joy to families, though. Our rambunctious sons grow into adult men and forge their own independence in the world. Some are soft-spoken and gentle. Others with a spark of curiosity fill every hour with questions, some unanswerable.

Parents and family members strive to mold them into a person better than we are. Sons, like many children, test the boundaries until one day, they stand before us, grown. National Sons Day encourages parents to be role models and provide the boundaries sons need. Celebrate their successes while guiding them through their failures. Give them a foundation of skills that they will rely on for a lifetime and pass on to their sons.

Each day as a son and the parent of one is a treasure. Boys need us to model responsibility, hard work, and integrity. As they work and learn beside us, those qualities will be instilled in them. The day reminds us of the value our sons bring to our lives and others.

Good afternoon. Getting ready to see hubs. Nice sunny day in the high 70s. Only thing missing are the raindrops.

Glad your daughter is enjoying Boston. While attending college my dorm was on the corner of Arlington and Beacon St.. The window overlooked the Charles River and the shell where you could hear and watch the Boston Pops. It also gave me a front road seat to the Regattas and whatever was taking place on the weekend and during the week. I used to walk to Brigham for my weekly hot fudge sundae on Charles St.. Brigham was bought out by Hoods and the hot fudge was never the same.

On Saturdays it was. always Haymarket Square. This was before Faneuil Hall became a retail and before Quincy Market. I had to be careful what I purchased since we were not permitted to have electrical appliances in our room. That all changed when I was able to change dorms and had a fire escape outside my window. Thus my new refrigerator from fall to early spring.

The sulfate attacks seems to coincide with my other allergies. Knowing this, I will be taking extra precautions. I had a strong feeling this may be the cause of all my attacks. I did some research and discovered I was right all along. It will probably be touch and go until I find all the triggers.

Hope your day goes well. Enjoy the walk.๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

Good Evening what an interesting life you have lived and still living. ๐ŸŽˆ๐Ÿ˜Ž
Our daughter has lived there for years and she loves it. I did write to you once
I don’t know if you saw it but she has a long time friend who lives in Vermont
and has a beautiful rustic cabin with fireplace and a nice deck for morning coffee
which faces a nice brook. Our daughter has sent me pictures and when the time is
right I am going to Vermont with my daughter her friend travels a lot and has two cats
I am looking forward to that that place is so beautiful. ๐Ÿ’•

No worries I will be visiting Boston too also Cape Cod there are events that go on there
during certain times of the year which I am sure you know all too well. ๐Ÿ’•

I hope you do find what triggers your attacks this is concerning. OZ is raining but tomorrow
we will have the sun then back to rain. Our weather is like a yo-yo. LOL!

I wish you could go back North if only for a week. I would hire someone to keep a extra
pair of eyes on hubby that way you can call and they can tell you everything.

I know you are pretty busy these days but when the time is right it will do you good to see

Thanks for the suggestion on the bracelet. Not sure it would work since cultures are found in ingredients including preservatives. It is listed with my physician. I am also smiling on the entire cabinet. Same problem. Same dilemma. Often purchase more than one when there is a good sale. However, I am redoing the cabinet for our everyday dishes and the one next to it for bowls. The items are on the countertop and on the floor. I just do not like the way it looks. Its no longer cluttered. Just needs to be revamped.

      @sheba2011

I stayed home today. Had a sulfite attack and found out it was due to white bread/flour. Wasn’t bad and I am fine now. However, I did some research and found that my sinuses could have triggered the entire thing, even the big one from last week. The sinus pills do work, but it takes time. I found out a few days ago that the RN was going to contact the EMTs from the local hospital. That would have given me the worse outcome. The shot they use has sulfites. What I use are meds for sinus issues which does work eventually. However, adding Benadryl is the key component which I didn’t use. Suffice to say it makes me sleepy. Not a good idea when you are behind the wheel.

Yes, I am still doing KP, but decided to work on the master bedroom as well. Just too many things not being put where they belong. Consequently, a cluttered mess. It is now gone. Before the new beds arrive, I will be dismantling both walk in closets completely. Hubs closet needs to have the rack for clothes at a level where he can have complete access. Our electrician will be here sometime this month to check on the A/C, electrical panel and the thermostat. I’ve been trying to reach the social worker at the Rehab for the info on the electric power for the hospital bed. I need to be sure that we are not infringing on anything. I also discovered that the aluminum ramp is not a good idea. The railings do get hot in the shade during the summer months. I am looking at cedar. I do like Trex, but trying to find what will look best for the house from the street. We shall see.

Oodie, sorry to hear about your sulfite allergies. I was thinking about you and hope you don’t mind but do you have some kind of bracelet or ID that lists your allergies in case they do call for help? Just a thought.
Yesterday I went to get something from my kitchen shelf and ended up redoing that cabinet.
with 3 shelves. I had to get rid of old spices again. We use them all the time here but I wont be buying multiples. lol.
