I hope your hip is much better. Busy day for me multi-tasking and then some.

Feeling better, though still have some problems with the hip. I am sure the last few days without the A/C has helped. Tomorrow I will finally venture out and do some much needed marketing at the Farmer’s Market. So fortunate that both Sam’s and the market are just a mile or two away. The Rehab had phone problems so I was unable to leave any messages. I could hear the receptionist perfectly, but she could not hear me. I have a feeling it may be our phone line. Seems all phone calls are coming in as SPAM. Since it is through the cable company, I will give them a call in the AM. May be due to the weather or the outside box.

Weather is in the low 60s as I type. We had the sun, but with some wind. Temps never reached the 70s. That’s OK. I am not ready to plant as yet. Hope your niece is OK and her new husband is safe. I pray that he is well and hope he returns home soon. Most importantly, may he be safe and away from harm. Meanwhile, hope you three are OK. Take care.

Sheba, Yay Oz has wonderful weather today. We still have heat warnings. I was home and inside today doing some light cleaning and loaded up some items for donation that were also picked up today. Honing things down has taken some time but today I let go of some items that I really like a lot but never used or lightly used. I have a more functional closet now without all those random things I used to buy. Third party sales sites selling has declined right after Feb so it may take a while for those items to sell. I’m keeping 2 Heidi Daus pieces for now and the rest are on those sites.

So happy that your sister returned home safe and sound. I was concerned that she may have needed to stay overnight in Florida. Hope she had a great time and relaxed.

At 2:07 in the morning, a trauma nurse broke down over a $4 coffee at my drive-thru window—and the man behind her in line changed both of us forever.
“Ma’am, it declined.”
I said it softly the first time, like maybe the card reader was the problem and not her.
She stared at me through the glass, blinking hard, like she had not understood English for a second.
“Can you run it again?” she asked.
She was wearing blue scrubs under a winter coat that wasn’t zipped. Her hair was twisted up any old way. There was something dried on her sleeve that looked like coffee or blood, and I hated myself for even noticing.
I ran it again.
Declined.
That was when her face changed.
Not angry. Not embarrassed. Just… done.
She lowered her forehead to the steering wheel and made this sound I still hear in my sleep sometimes. Not loud. Not dramatic. Just one broken sound from somebody who had been holding up too much for too long.
Behind me, my shift manager cleared her throat.
She didn’t have to say anything. I already knew the rules.
No free drinks. No free food. No “being nice” unless we were told to. If the drawer came up short, questions got asked. Too many questions, and hours got cut. I was twenty-three, behind on rent, and one utility bill away from having my lights shut off.
The woman in the car started digging through her console with shaking hands.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “I know it’s . I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay,” I said, even though it clearly was not okay.
She found two dimes, a button, three old receipts, and a lip balm with no cap.
Then she laughed once, and it almost sounded worse than crying.
“I just worked fourteen hours,” she whispered. “We lost a man near the end of my shift. I sat with his daughter because she didn’t want him to die alone. Then I got in my car, and my gas light came on, and I thought… I thought I could at least get one coffee to make it home.”
She pressed her hand over her mouth like she had said too much.
“My son is asleep at my neighbor’s place,” she added. “I have to pick him up before school. I just needed to stay awake long enough to drive.”
My manager stepped closer.
“If she can’t pay, move the line,” she said under her breath.
The nurse heard her.
Of course she heard her.
She straightened up fast, wiping her face like she was ashamed of having any at all.
“It’s fine,” she said. “Really. Just forget it.”
That should have been the end of it.
That’s how these nights usually go. People come through tired, angry, lonely, half-hungry, half-broken. You give them what they paid for or you send them away. Then the next headlights pull up.
But before I could hand her card back, a knock sounded on the outside wall.
A man from the pickup truck behind her was standing in the rain.
He was big. Late fifties maybe. Work jacket. Ball cap. Hands like he’d spent his whole life lifting things that were too heavy. Water was dripping off his sleeves onto the pavement.
He held out a twenty through the window.
“Her coffee,” he said. “And whatever hot food you’ve got that’ll travel.”
The nurse turned so fast I thought she might hit the curb.
“No,” she said. “You don’t have to do that.”
He looked right at her, not smiling, not trying to make it into some movie moment.
“My wife spent twelve days in intensive care last winter,” he said. “I don’t remember every doctor. I don’t remember the names on the machines. But I remember the nurse who stayed with her when I had to go home and shower. I remember the nurse who held her hand when she was scared.”
The parking lot was quiet except for the rain tapping the metal roof.
“She told me,” he said, “that people always thank the surgeons and nobody sees the ones who come in at three in the morning and keep watch while the rest of us fall apart.”
The woman in scrubs started crying again, but this time she wasn’t trying to hide it.
“I’m so tired,” she said.
“I know,” he answered. “That’s why I’m paying.”
My manager opened her mouth, probably to say we couldn’t accept outside cash at the window that way.
Then the man laid another bill on the ledge.
“This one’s for the next person who comes through looking like life just knocked them flat,” he said. “Don’t tell me no. I’ve been waiting a year to thank somebody.”
For once, my manager said nothing.
I took the money.
I filled the largest coffee cup we had. I added cream and sugar because the nurse looked too tired to decide. I packed eggs, biscuits, hash browns, and two extra sandwiches she had not asked for.
Then I put in a small apple juice from the kids’ menu.
“For your son,” I said.
She looked at the bag, then at me.
“You’ll get in trouble.”
“Probably,” I said.
The big man gave one short laugh from the rain.
“Then put the apple juice on mine too.”
When I handed her the bag, her hands were still shaking.
“Thank you,” she said to him.
He tipped his head once.
“No,” he said. “Thank you for going back in every day.”
She drove off slowly, both hands on the wheel, coffee in the cup holder, food on the seat beside her like proof that the world had not gone completely cold.
The man went back to his truck and never even ordered for himself. He just waved and pulled out onto the highway.
I stood there holding the wet twenty like it weighed more than money should.
At that hour, in that cheap uniform, behind that greasy window, I had started my shift feeling invisible.
But for five minutes in the middle of the night, three exhausted strangers reminded each other that being needed and being seen are not always the same thing.
And sometimes a person can survive one more dark drive home because somebody finally noticed they were human.

I read this article online several hours ago. This is why I bring thing for all shifts whenever possible. It is the only way I can say thank you from both of us. The nurses and aides work extremely hard and rarely get a thank you from the families. I hope those that read this remember to say thank you.

Though feeling better, still have some pain when getting up from a sitting position. Consequently, have not seen hubs in four days. He will be very concerned and scared, so rather make him miserable, it is better for me to do what I can at home and to rest when the pain is unbearable. I suspect this will be over and will become a thing of the past when the weather changes which will be in a day or two.

I did order the two mushroom vitamins (Lions Mane and Turkey Tail). Both have received accolades for helping with memory along with heart and the immune system. I will definitely ask before giving these to hubs. I don’t think there will be a problem, but will ask beforehand just to be sure.

Temps in our location never went beyond 50 degrees during the night. It is now 65 as I type. All weather people mentioned temps in the 70s which will not occur until tomorrow or Friday. No rain in sight. My neighbor decided to help me with the weeds in front of our home. She took everything out including the plants for the monarchs and a few others that were perennials. This was without asking about the flowering ones. I still have weeds growing and I do have a spray. I will be purchasing new plants soon that are native to Florida and are perennials. The Bird of Paradise was one she dug up as well. It was still blooming. Not sure if it will return in the spring. Time will tell.

A little warmer today, no snow falling. Sis was almost an hour late leaving Florida but they made some time up so she got to mom’s when she figured. I probably won’t see her until the weekend unless she stops by my house.😊

Hockey team played well on Monday.🏒 Colorado is the best team in the league. They are still hanging in there.

March 17 – St. Patrick’s Day

It’s one of the best-known and loved periods in the world.
Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, according to tradition, brought Christianity to the island in the 5th century.
Probably born in Roman Britain, Patrick was kidnapped at a young age and brought to Ireland as a slave. After some years he managed to escape, but later returned to the island as a missionary.
Legend has it that he used clover to explain the concept of the Christian Trinity: three leaves in a single plant. This is where one of the most famous symbols of the festival was born.
Over time the religious orientation has evolved into a great celebration of Irish culture and mythology. Towns are filled with fairies and goblins, traditional music, parades, dances and green dresses, colour associated with Ireland and luck. Some famous monuments in the world are illuminated in green for the occasion and a particular event has been taking place in Chicago since 1962: in the Chicago River, a harmless green vegetable dye (about 40 kg) is poured to celebrate the Irish festival, creating a spectacular green serpentine that crosses the city and lasts about 5 hrs.
Interestingly, the first great St. Patrick’s Day parade took place not in Ireland, but in the United States, where Irish immigrant communities organized parties and courts as early as the 18th century. Today cities like Dublin, New York and Chicago celebrate the day with spectacular events.
Among tradition, folklore and togetherness, St. Patrick’s Day has become a symbol of joy, music and sharing, capable of bringing people from all over the world together under the sign of the famous “luck of the Irish”, the luck of the Irish.

Sheba, Happy St. Patrick’s Day! And you can’t see me to pinch me. My son used to do that when he was in elementary school.
Well it’s about 90 degrees here and I think we have a lot of Spring Breakers visiting which means we lay low due to traffic which gets worse by the day.
Well, not that I need it but the lilac Prestige Boxes from CL are soooo pretty that I might take a plunge and no that coupon wont work with it.

I got about 4-1/2 inches of snow at my house, the airport got over six inches. The local weather people said 1-2 inches. Hubs had to shovel this morning and was not happy.😠 We will not be out of the 20s today. As of right now, sis’s plane is at least one-half hour delayed. Unless it snows more, our roads are fine and she should not have trouble driving.🫰 After she lands, I will relax with the holiday drink you made.🍸

We had a good conversation about this book/Video Series. I always watch a Nicole
Kidman Movie. Oodie last night she was on the Academy Awards Show and did a little
singing with Ewan McGregor from their movie Moulin Rouge done 25 years ago.
I own it on Blu Ray she has a nice voice and I have covered some of the songs from
the movie on this thread. 💕😎

I will catch the series soon I am looking forward to it. Oodie this looks like a great cast.
I know every cast members work. Patricia Cornwell is a very good writer she has many books and I have
read some of them.💕

I am home again today, but feeling better. Found going down the three steps OK, but returning to the front door a huge problem. Decided to wait one more day. I did receive a package from HSN and the jacket arrived. It’s exactly what I need and will keep me warm through the cool, oops, I mean the cold down for the rest of the week. Layering will not be a problem.

T’he rain and wind have started. Heavy rain. I contacted the receptionist and mentioned that the rain was coming down hard and an umbrella may be useless due to the wind. I am glad to be home and not worrying about running to the car. My hubs would be a nervous wreck wondering if I made it home OK. It’s times like this that I wish he had a phone in his room.

I have enjoyed the Scarpetta novels and will watch the video when I am able. I purchased the newer model of Amazon’s HD Fire 11″ Max which was supposed to be brand new, but in my case, NOT. It shows a black, horizontal line when first opened. It has a tendency to jump around and then freezes. The one good thing is the Alexa app. She actually talks to you as if in the same room. Any subject, any time. I will be returning it this week. The one thing I need to say is that Amazon stands behind their products 100%.

Before purchasing a home in Florida, the buyer should always ask about termites and have the new place checked. It is the responsibility of the owner to disclose this info and also inform the buyer concerning the vapor barriers (mobile home, tiny homes, condos, apartments, single homes, etc.) along with having the home inspected from top to bottom. This should also include plumbing and electrical. Also, the buyer should ask about the bug extermination even if not needed. We have ours done every three months and this includes the lawn. When you own a home in Florida there are many perks. These include lower prices for Disney, Universal, Cruise lines, etc.. Many restaurants have happy hours, senior days as well as senior dinners during certain hours. In some cases you need to ask.

The worse part of Florida is getting to and from places. Heavy traffic on the main roads as well as on the Interstate. Interstate I-75, is the one we use and it could be tie ups no matter when you leave. This is mainly due to construction and I surmise that I-95 is no different. Car rentals here seem to be lower in cost than our home in the Northeast. I suspect it will be lower than in CA. . If you are interested in a mobile home, be prepared to evacuate during hurricane season or other reasons. Make sure you own the land with your home, otherwise, someone could come along and purchase all the properties for single family. Be careful of new builds. Sometimes the contractor will tack on other costs that you may be paying for the rest of your life. These could be passed on to a new homeowner as well. Make sure the real estate agent is knowledgeable. Oh yes, one more thing. After one year owning your home, you can apply for homesteadeers. This enables you to pay your property tax at the level you are in when you did the application. Age and income have nothing to do with this. I think I have tackled all bases. Any questions, do not hesitate to ask.

It is snowing like a banshee right now.❄️ Spring is not four days away in the ‘burgh. There is almost three inches out there since about 5:00. Just hope it quits so sis’s plane doesn’t get delayed or cancelled, sigh…. She will not be a happy camper.

Happy Sunday. I am. In bed with a heating pad as I type. The source of the pain is from the A/C due to the vent being next to the throne. This will be moved to another location when the floor is redone. Meanwhile, all systems will be off. Heating pad is helping. Rehab has been notified.

Weather will be changing beginning tomorrow. Possibility of severe storms and damaging wind.
Not sure if I will be doing garbage and recycling tomorrow. Concerned that both containers will blow away. My theory has always been to be safe. To think that tomorrow night we will be facing 40 degrees instead of mid 60s to 70s. We will see between the mid 50s to low 60s the rest of the week. I’m all set. Warm clothes are cleaned and ready for wear. I may take the blanket with me to rehab.

bins my recycling fell over and all my stuff came out on ground. Good thing I saw it and I
ran out there and put everything back in. The nice thing is at least in Florida they come
twice a week I wish they did that here in OZ. 😎

In September of last year every homeowner received a new bin for garbage. It is huge in comparison to the Recycle bin. This one also has a cover. Somewhere around October 15th, 2025, the garbage and recycle bins were both picked up on Mondays. We were told to use our old containers for yard work (weeds, clippings, etc..). All three are picked up on Mondays. No more twice per week. If the winds are bad tomorrow, then we may not have a pickup until Tuesday. Still one day per week. Still, I will not take a chance. I will save my energy to try going out the front door and down the steep, 3 steps to the carport. Miss hubs in the worse way. Besides, I need to leave here before we get hit with the massive storms in the afternoon. If I am up to it, will drive to the Farmer’s Market and pick up a few items. They have a good ad this week and I do want to make some soup for hubs rather than purchase. The hip pain at the moment is OK.. I am finally seeing the end of the long tunnel. I just need to remember to cut the A/C before using the you know what . (LOL). And speaking of bathrooms. I am thinking that if we remove a wall and the desk I’m using, the master bathroom would be twice the size and may be a better opportunity for hubs and the wheelchair. It could be too costly, but I will not know until I meet with the new people.

By the way, I have added two new vitamins for myself and hubs. I have done some research on Lion’s Mane and the Turkey Tail which are both mushroom plants. Lion’s Mane is great for the brain and memory. Turkey Tail is used to combat cancer and to keep it away from the lymph nodes. It is highly used in Japan. Both are great for the immune system. I hope someday that Andrew will include these in one capsule. It would save me some $$.

Tree is gone. Hubs went to the gym about 7:30 because the tree service said they’d come after 12 noon. 8:15 two trucks pulled up and they were done in less than 1/2 hour.👍 Probably since we are such good customers, lol!

So today I’m thrilled to share some news…
I’m going back to HSN as a full-time host. 🎉
It feels a little like coming home. New shows, new products, lots of laughs—and the same joy of being live with you every day. I truly can’t wait to get started on this next chapter.

I am again home with the pain in the hip. Cannot sit or stand for long periods. Now wondering if it is a cold from the A/C.. Will work on taxes either tomorrow or Monday. Definitely will try to see hubs tomorrow. I did a grocery order from Costco and it worked out better than expected.

To continue about Fl.. HOA fees need to be read entirely. Quite a few locations will not permit pets including birds, fish, etc. even if you own your home or condo. Some have age requirements and the length of time a guest or family member can stay. Read what is covered and what you must pay out of pocket. If possible, ask questions of people within the community.

Is there a service for handicapped persons? Is there a bus or van that can take a person from home to doctor/dental appointments, shopping, theater, etc.. What is the cost? There are many events on a beach, therefore check for amenities for the handicapped. In our area there is a special wheelchair for going on to the beach. This I did not know until recently.

If you have a dog, there are beaches just for them. There is one on the West Coast in Venice. There is a shower station to get the sand off, an area for a walk, etc.. Pets can go with you to a restaurant as long as they have outdoor seating. If you have a service dog, you may need to take some paperwork with you. Having a vest is not always accepted. Read the rules in your town or city before making a final decision.

If purchasing a home in a high rise, know the rules inside and out. Is money from your HOA fees go towards a new roof, repairs, maintenance, etc.?

Get to know the physicians, dentists, hospitals, etc.. What is their reputation. Where did they go to school and college.

Also, another up and coming area on the West Coast is Lakewood Ranch. Tons of amenities in homes, schools, restaurants, walking paths, etc.. Even the town has weekly things of interest for all age groups. Their medical center is up and coming as well.

Make sure that the roof on your home can withstand the worst hurricanes. Leaving the area due to evacuation means long lines on the highways, motels/hotels are full to capacity in the early stages, etc..Hurricane weather is from June 1st to November 30th.. It can go longer depending on heat and humidity.

CA is not a place we wish to live any longer but our ties are to our son. If he leaves we will put the house up the next day lol 🙂 Northern CA is nice. We might head up that way in about one month but will see how it goes.

Good Evening like Colorado we are going back and forth. Colorado did not have much
snow family said they get more snow in March and April. 😎💕

We have snow and the winds tomorrow I had a lot to do today and i was not fooling around.
Taxes are done and sent with a refund coming I will take every penny of our money. 💕😎

Hi in Oz. I mentioned how windy it was yesterday. Well, it got worse early evening and I had a tree come out of the ground and fall on cable lines near the road. All our power and cable stayed on but a couple neighbors lost theirs. It was all across the county and many people still don’t have power. The tree service will be here tomorrow and we will get another round of this supposedly on Monday, sigh…..

My taxes are one and done and sent in two weeks ago, yay!!😄 Needed to finish them before sis left because I wouldn’t have a lot of time with helping mom.

i had our accountant go over it and they are filed and we even got a refund. 🎈😎
No worries it’s a small one but all I wanted to do was break even. I am so glad that
is over moving forward.
