Hello Peeps time for a new Conversation Thread. This is number 25 out of the
series. I created and started this thread 10 years ago.

I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. ✨😎

I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. 🌹✨😎

      NATIONAL MAKING LIFE BEAUTIFUL DAY

National Making Life Beautiful Day on June 11 dedicates a celebration to those who make life beautiful. Whether you’re creating beauty by building relationships or helping others achieve personal success, your actions create a ripple effect. You are making life beautiful not just for yourself, but for those around you, too.

Beauty comes in many forms. From a kind word to a gentle soul, those who lift up others and find strength in the sparest strands of hope bring beauty into this world. Some send messages in the form of bold art while others roll up their sleeves in times of need. Those beautiful people heal the wounded, ease the hearts of the weary, and empower others to be the best person they can be to make life so very beautiful.

Making life beautiful begins within. When you find appreciation for the gifts you have in your life it’s easy to reciprocate those feelings to others. For example, being optimistic and intentional about your thoughts and actions emits positivity. That positivity can easily encourage other to aspire to keep a positive mind. Smile, be thankful, and always be kind.

      NATIONAL GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE DAY

On June 11 we celebrate the delicious food holiday known as National German Chocolate Cake Day! We can’t think of a better way to learn about a cake with American roots and get our chocolate fix for the day at the same time!

Although the name may sound like the cake originated in Germany, German chocolate cake did not. In fact, the cake’s roots can be traced back to 1852 when American Sam German made a type of dark baking chocolate for the American Baker’s Chocolate Company. Baker’s German Sweet Chocolate’s brand was named in honor of Sam German.

Over 100 years later in 1957, a recipe for “German’s Chocolate Cake” appeared as the Recipe of the Day in the Dallas Morning Star. This recipe, created by Mrs. George Clay, used Baker’s German’s Sweet Chocolate. Obviously, it became quite popular. During this time, General Foods owned Baker’s brand and distributed Mrs. Clay’s recipe to other newspapers around the country. The current name of German Chocolate Cake, as we know it today, came to be as publications started dropping the ‘s.

NATIONAL CORN ON THE COB DAY

National Corn on the Cob Day on June 11 is our reminder that summertime picnics are in full swing. The smell of fresh corn on the cob cooking makes our mouths water. We don’t care if you grill it, boil it, or bake it. The only thing we want to do today is eat as much corn on the cob we can.

The history of corn dates back to nearly 7,000 years ago in Mexico. Originally growing as a wild grass, corn was eventually grown as a crop and harvested. From Mexico, corn eventually spread north into what is now the U.S. Native American’s planted and harvested corn, making it plentiful across tribes. Today, corn is found across North America.

Corn on the cob is known as pole corn, cornstick, sweet pole, butter-pop, sweet corn, or long maize depending on where you live. Despite it’s name variations, corn on the cob is best picked when the corn kernels are tender and in its milk stage serves up sweeter kernels.

While it might seem rude, proper dinner etiquette for eating corn says holding the cob at each end with your fingers is appropriate. If you find yourself with butter dripping off your chin, don’t worry. Most people are probably having the same problem as you are because everyone serves their corn on the cob with other seasonings, butter or oils can.

How you prepare your corn on the cob also depends on where you live. Boiling, steaming, roasting, and grilling are the most common ways to prepare corn on the cob. Adding butter, oil, and seasonings is all personal preference. In fact, roasting corn on the cob and topping it with parmesan, chili pepper, and cilantro seems to be the choice of many these days.

      Shadow Dancing
      Song by Andy Gibb

You got me looking at that heaven in your eyes
      I was chasing your direction
I was telling you no lies
      And I was loving you
When the words are said, baby, I lose my head
And in a world of people, there’s only you and I
There ain’t nothing come between us in the end
How can I hold you when you ain’t even mine
Only you can see me through
I leave it up to you
Do it light, taking me through the night
Shadow dancing, baby you do it right
Give me more, drag me across the floor
Shadow dancing, all this and nothing more
All that I need is just one moment in your arms
      I was chasing your affection
I was doing you no harm
      And I was loving you
Make it shine, make it rain, baby I know my way
I need that sweet sensation of living in your love
I can’t breath when you’re away, it pulls me down
You are the question and the answer am I
Only you can see me through
I leave it up to you
Do it light, taking me through the night
Shadow dancing, baby you do it right
Give me more, drag me across the floor
Shadow dancing, all this and nothing more
And in this world of people there’s only you and I
There ain’t nothing come between us in the end
Ah, can I hold you when you ain’t even mine
Only you can see me through
I leave it up to you
Do it light, taking me through the night
Shadow dancing, baby you do it right
Give me more, drag me across the floor
Shadow dancing, all this and nothing more
Do it light, taking me through the night
Shadow dancing, baby you do it right
Give me more, drag me across the floor
Shadow dancing, all this and nothing more
Do it light, taking me through the night
Shadow dancing, baby you do it right
Give me more, drag me across the floor
Shadow dancing, all this and nothing more
Do it light, taking me through the night
Shadow dancing, baby you do it right
Give me more, drag me across the floor
Shadow dancing, all this and nothing more
Do it light, taking me through the night
Shadow dancing, baby you do it right
Give me more, drag me across the floor
Shadow dancing, all this and nothing more

      Good evening Sheba,
I hope all is well with you, your hubby and Poppy.

I only saw the Sun today in the late evening just before it went down. Most of the day was cloudy and a shower off and on. It rained enough to get the plants wet and a good drink of water. Hopefully we will get more rain tomorrow.

Last night an adult opossum came by and later a baby Opossum. Today we have a small bunny in the afternoon.

      Take care Sheba 🌹

      @oodiebom,

Hi, I hope you had a great dinner with your husband.
The Sun came out late afternoon going into evening just before it went down and over the trees.
The day was cloudy and the rain was off and on throughout the day. Much need, it’s been several months since it rained and everything shows by how dry it is.
Hopefully we get more rain tomorrow and it soaks into the ground.

      Take care Oodiebom.

I am home., thankfully. The ride home started with just on and off light rain, but half way home it became a deluge. No lightning or thunder claps. Last night was a different story. Lightning and some streaks across th e dark sky. It was scary. Tonight just the torrential downpour, but I’m home. I made a pork dinner with the leftover spaghetti and a salad. Put it all into one refrigerator bowl with a cover and an ice pak and all was good. I added green grapes and it really added to the flavor. Hubby was on a breathing machine when I arrived and had dinner following. We ate together. I should have brought the candles and didn’t think of it until I was in his room. Maybe tomorrow since he has a virtual doctor’s appointment with the urologist. His appointment is scheduled for late afternoon, but last time the doctor was two hours early. I will try to be there by early afternoon.

Hubby’s room was very comfortable upon arrival. Then around 7pm the A/C kicked in. His room became a freezer box, though hubby said he was Ok with just a sheet and a thin blanket. Luckily I left a sweater and quickly put it on. The room was so cold that around 9 pm I told him I would be leaving in a half hour. The front door is kept locked at all times so the nurses and aids were the only people who knew the keypad. I was still wearing the sweater as I left, and the hot, burning air hit me like rocks. It was hot and muggy and drizzling.

So good to see the rain. We are supposed to be seeing 10-16 inches by the weekend. I have a feeling we may surpass that. Next week the temps will again be in the 90s. It won’t take long for us to see another drought on the horizon. Oh well, welcome to Florida.

Hope you three have a great evening. Take care and stay safe. Good night.

Oodie your State is making major news about the rain. I have never seen that before
only when you get those hurricanes.

      George Michael Lyrics
      “Careless Whisper”

      I feel so unsure
      As I take your hand
And lead you to the dance floor
      As the music dies
      Something in your eyes
Calls to mind a silver screen
      And all its sad goodbyes

      I’m never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
      Though it’s easy to pretend
      I know you’re not a fool
I should’ve known better than to cheat a friend
And waste the chance that I’d been given
So I’m never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you

      Time can never mend
The careless whispers of a good friend
      To the heart and mind
      Ignorance is kind
There’s no comfort in the truth
      Pain is all you’ll find

      I’m never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
      Though it’s easy to pretend
      I know you’re not a fool
I should’ve known better than to cheat a friend
      (Should have known better, yeah)
And waste the chance that I’d been given
So I’m never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you

      Never without your love

Tonight the music seems so loud
I wish that we could lose this crowd
      Maybe it’s better this way
We’d hurt each other with the things we want to say
We could have been so good together
We could have lived this dance forever
But now who’s gonna dance with me?
      Please stay

And I’m never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
      Though it’s easy to pretend
      I know you’re not a fool
I should’ve known better than to cheat a friend
And waste the chance that I’d been given
So I’m never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you

      Now that you’re gone
      Now that you’re gone

      Now that you’re gone
Was what I did so wrong, so wrong
That you had to leave me alone?

NATIONAL BALLPOINT PEN DAY | JUNE 10

Grab your ballpoint pen and write this on your calendar. On June 10th of each year, National Ballpoint Pen Day recognizes the useful writing utensil and commemorates the anniversary of the patent filing on June 10, 1943.

Before 1943, anyone who wanted to write a letter or scribble some notes on a piece of paper used a fountain pen or pencil. Now the dominant writing instrument, the ballpoint pen was originally conceived and developed as a cleaner and more reliable alternative to the quill and fountain pens. In earlier years, many attempts by inventors led to failed patents as their inventions did not deliver the ink evenly. They also had overflow and clogging issues. However, in June of 1943, the brothers Laszlo and Gyorgy Biro obtained their patent for the ballpoint pen, revolutionizing how many write letters and conduct business.

Today, manufacturers produce ballpoint pens by the millions and sell them worldwide. As a promotional tool, ballpoint pens find their way into our hands from advertisers of all sorts assuring that we always have a ballpoint pen handy, too.

      NATIONAL FROSTED COOKIE DAY

Today is June 10 on the National Day Calendar and we are throwing a sweet celebration for National Frosted Cookie Day. This nostalgic National Day celebrates the day by inspiring families everywhere to live life playfully, while enjoying the iconic frosted animal cookies by Mother’s® Cookies!

Each year on June 10 we celebrate National Frosted Cookie Day and encourage everyone to enjoy the frosted animal cookies that spark the joy and creativity for families. No other cookie in the world sparks imagination like the frosted animal cookie. Whether putting on a circus show for friends, or taking a safari with family, the frosted animal cookie sparks joy and creativity for all. In fact, this iconic frosted animal cookie is enjoyed by playful, imaginative families all over the country.

      Animal Cookies
Long ago in cookie-land, animals didn’t stray too far from the herd. Camels stuck with camels, lions with lions, and unicorns with unicorns. Day after day, they had the same routine. One morning a volcano erupted shooting sprinkles out into the sky and sending rivers of frosting flowing through the lands. By the next morning, every creature under the sun was full of polka-dots and bright. The animals thought, “well this is weird.” But, it was also pretty sweet and delicious. The frosted animals became instant friends. From that day on, cookie-land became infinitely more fun. Since then, kids have been delighting in Mother’s Cookies ever since.

Today, there are two types of Mother’s Frosted Animal Cookies, each with unique shapes and personalities to create plenty of imagination in every bite.

      NATIONAL ICED TEA DAY

June 10 is National Iced Tea Day to celebrate one of summer’s favorite refreshing drinks. Whether you prefer sweetened or unsweetened, with or without lemon, we invite you to pour yourself a glass as we relax and enjoy some random information about iced tea.

Iced tea is the second most popular beverage in the world, following water. The oldest tea remains date to around 453BC. Archeologists from Shandong University and the University of Science and Technology found 2,400 year old tea remains in a royal tomb in the Shandong province.

Recipes for iced tea have been found dating back to the 1870s. The Buckeye Cookbook (1876) and Housekeeping in Old Virginia (1877) both contain iced tea recipes. It is believed, however, that iced tea started to appear in the United States in the 1860s and became widespread in the 1870s. During that time, hotels and railroads offered iced tea on their beverage menus.

In 1904, the iced tea was introduced at the World’s Fair in St. Louis by a tea merchant who planned to serve hot tea. However, a sudden heat wave prompted fair-goers to become uninterested in the beverage. To save his himself, the merchant decided to add ice to the already brewed tea. This led to a frenzy of people lining up to taste the wonderful new drink. Today, the U.S. consumed nearly 50 billion glasses of tea per year!

An alternative to carbonated soft drinks and quite popular in the United States, iced tea makes up about 85% of all tea consumed. Restaurants, convenience stores, vending machines, grocery stores and self-serve soda fountains make finding iced tea easy and convenient.

      NATIONAL HERBS AND SPICES DAY

We celebrate flavor each year on June 10 during National Herbs and Spices Day to recognize the diversity and quality offered by using both fresh and dried herbs and spices in your cooking.

All year long, herbs and spices are essential to cooking. As the summer heats up, developing a knack for cooking with fresh herbs brings brightness and flavor to grilling and the kitchen. Herbs and spice not only add flavor to your meals, they also add color by bringing a vibrancy that might have otherwise be missed.

Herbs and spices have been used for many hundreds of years. They make our food delicious and also have its specific health benefits. In fact, these 6 spices and herbs will improve your health:

Sage improves memory function in the brain.
      Peppermint reduces nausea.
Turmeric is said to have anti-inflammatory benefits.
Cinnamon lowers blood sugar levels which can benefit diabetes.
      Cayenne pepper helps reduce appetites.
Rosemary is good for treating allergies.
Herbs and spices add character to certain beverages, too. Mint, sage, chamomile, lavender, and many others add subtle flavor to hot and cold drinks.

Growing your own herbs and spices is a great way to add fresh variety to your food. Herbs raised in your home add an aromatic and natural fragrance to the air as well. Besides, raising your own herbs can be a form of relaxing therapy.

      @sheba2011

It is very cloudy here, but thus far no rain. Temp is in the high 80s and the humidity is 95%. The temp will soar to over 95 which means when you factor in the humidity, over 100.

I will be making spaghetti and meatballs today.. Had a migraine yesterday and thus did not see hubby. I have a phone call into our physician. I’m getting too many headaches which are sinus related. I’m hoping to make a stop at Sam’s C;ub for potting soil. Finally found the large planters in the color I wanted. Hopefully, I will be able to plant either today or tomorrow. It is supposed to rain from tomorrow on with over 2″ expected. This will not end the drought, but is a good start.

Hubby has a virtual doctor’s appointment on Wednesday with the Urologist. He is doing OK, but forgets to drink liquids. He forgets he no longer has the prostrate problem since the surgeons were able to make a pathway around that area.

Guess I better get a move on. Have a wonderful afternoon and evening. If you are still seeing the raccoon, you should contact Wildlife Animal Control in your area. They will probably set a trap and remove the raccoon and bring it to a different location that is away from people. They are a no kill organization. However, dealing with mice or rats are a different story.

I am now home. Had to pop in to let you know that we are now getting a gentle rain with a thunder storm. I hope xango is also getting some. Evidently, there was a lightning strike near us. Walked in and no electricity. It came on about 10 minutes ago. I will need to reset some of the clocks. No big deal. I guess we will not see 2″ of rain. Seems the weather people are predicting 1o” to 12″ in our area. Sounds good. However, when this is over and the sun brings the temp to 95 we will be back to the drought problem once again. Oh well. Such is life. Time to roll with the tide.

      @oodiebom,

Good evening the headache part is what I have been dealing with the sinus issue.
That is why I had a video visit and thank god I have been with her for over 20 years
she knows my medical history very well. The antibiotic are doing a number on my stomach
just a little woozy that’s all. I am snapping out of it. 😎

I hope you see your Physician soon and get some real relief. Sorry you could not see
hubby but if you are under the weather in that heat it is not a good idea to be out.

Oodie our meals were very similar and I had mine all plan and one this morning. I made
Spaghetti and meat sauce with salad and Garlic Bread. Hubby loved it and took a shower
      and is now resting. 😘😎💕

I have been feeding the animals a poor possum came on the porch and spilled the water
trying to get away. I was not going after him I always leave water for the Possums. I know
they take care of the little things we don’t like but they drink a lot of water.

I certainly did call animal control today and they got back with me late but at least a
entrapment will be put out for the other critter. I have no mice or rats. I am thankful for that
and I have a service contract for pest control to make sure I don’t have them. 😎 I have
seen some little ants as this is the season for them here and they get rid of those too.

I hope you don’t lift too much the plants can wait a bit at this point. I would wait until it
cools down and then do all the planting. I ordered from Sam’s today but I have free shipping
and delivery and I brought a bit from them that will be delivered this week. Xango taught me
that move. 😎 There are times when I like going into the store I especially like to pick out
my own bread and meats and special treats. Hey for all the heavy stuff I have them leave
it at the front door. 🎈

Enjoy your evening Oodie I am going to take a shower it helps with the headaches.

One more thing we are changing our A/C Filters I want clean filters so the air flows out
clean and pure. I also have a air humidifier that goes all over the house. OZ will be very warm
in another day or so. I am getting ready for it and that means taking Poppy out early morning
well I do that anyway but I need to get my steps in so it’s good for both of us than we walk
again in the late evening. 🎈

Oodie I hope your day is going well. 😎I hope your husband has a very good appt. this week.

      NATIONAL STRAWBERRY RHUBARB PIE DAY

National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day falls on June 9 each year to recognize a delicious and seasonal pie. A tart vegetable, rhubarb is often paired with sweet fruits making for a pleasing dessert. Join us as we explore all things rhubarb. We might even serve a slice of pie for you to enjoy!

Around the country, rhubarb is a perennial favorite for home gardens. One of the first fruits of their labors, gardeners begin to harvest rhubarb in the middle of May and early June, and it finds its way into desserts and preserves. Rhubarb known for making deliciously baked goods and satisfying the hankering for something from the garden early in the season. Since rhubarb takes on the flavor of the fruit or vegetable it is paired with, it is an excellent complement to many recipes.

Rhubarb is so high in oxalic acid, in fact, the leaves are toxic to humans. The stalks, however, are a consumable, rich, and healthful source of oxalic acid. The benefits of enjoying rhubarb could help reduce blood pressure, increase your body’s ability to burn fat, and generate brain myelin. Now, that’s a reason to celebrate National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day!

      NATIONAL DONALD DUCK DAY

National Donald Duck Day on June 9 commemorates the birthday of the funny animated cartoon character known as Donald Duck. Making his first screen debut on June 9, 1934, in The Wise Little Hen, Donald Duck has become an iconic symbol in animation and in homes, alike.

Usually wearing a sailor suit with a cap and a black or red bow tie, Donald Duck is most famous for his semi-intelligible speech along with his mischievous and irritable personality. Known for his quick temper, Donald Duck seems to quack his way through oodles of bad luck. Yet, despite his hot temper, Donald Duck is a loving character with a good heart.

Did you know Donald Duck’s middle is Fauntleroy? . The name means “child king” and derived from Old French.

The Donald Duck character has graced screen and print since 1934. He has appeared in over 190 films and countless comic strips and books, more than any other Disney character. He has appeared in more films than any other Disney character. In fact, Donald Duck was also declared in 2002 by TV Guide as one of the 50 greatest cartoon characters of all time. His ‘acting’ career has earned him Academy Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Who knew a duck could be so famous?

      NATIONAL CHILDREN’S DAY

The second Sunday in June rewinds time for a moment to celebrate National Children’s Day. This day honors the children in our lives by slowing down our fast-paced lives, turning off the tech, and refocusing on the important things. Taking one day may not be enough, but using it as an opportunity to redirect our family life is an important way to stay connected with our children.

Children look up to adults in their life for guidance. While their personalities are unique, children develop their character as they spend time with people. In fact, early interaction is good for development and essential for their growth. Language skills, communication skills, and emotional skills are formed at an early age. National Children’s Day is the perfect time to give the little humans in your life a bit extra time.

Hi Sheba, thanks for the words of wisdom ♥️.
It’s a sunny, hot day here. Woke up two mornings ago around 6AM . Looked out our backyard and a Lynx was just sitting right in the middle of the yard. He just sat there looking at me and looking around. He must of been hungry,
but I’m not feeding it he was a big one.
We haven’t seen the bunnies in a while, so my thoughts went the way of the Lynx got a hold of them. But then, the large bunny showed up that same day in the late afternoon. And also yesterday, late afternoon.
The bunny enjoyed a feast of lettuce, strawberry and grapes. It’s been so dry, so the bunnies must of gone elsewhere.

      Take care Sheba 🌹

I started laughing at your post with five coolers. I carry three just in case. Hubby’s van has a Coleman Frig that holds quite a bit. My little sedan has a small trunk area, so the coolers fit in nicely in that area. When I get to the car I divide the bags from the store according to freezer and frig. I empty the bags which gives me more room for either one (freeaer or frig). I also have freezer paks which keep everything cold. However, I need to give you a heads up. Just after the exit for SR 64 there is construction (going South). I have no idea how the traffic is going in that direction. I can tell you it takes almost two hours just to get to Tampa from my exit, which is for SR 70 (heading North).

I am concerned with your family in Brazil with the flooding. I hope they are OK. I also see that you are feeling better. I surmise it won’t be long now before you are baking up a storm and freeaing soups, breads, entree’s, desserts and then some.

Detwiler’s has a take out area. Soups, desserts, drinks (teas, juice, etc.), salads, sandwiches, sushi, pizza, subs, chicken wings, fried chicken, roasted chicken, etc… Most everything is homemade. Oops, almost forgot. They make their own donuts from scratch. I’m not sure if their market in Palmetto makes pizza and donuts. This store is located on 301 and may be an easier alternative for you. The one near me is about 10 miles from the highway on SR 70. You will need to check on traffic conditions on 301 because of construction.

By the way, we may have rain on Monday. Just received a notification of thunderstorms. It will probably start in the Gulf and head East. Boy, do we need the rain. Our lake is very low. Not sure if the fish survive. Saw one turtle asking for shrimp.

Have a great day. Stay safe.

Before reading your post, I was watching YouTube video on Detwiler’s Farmer’s market. Wishing I could be there walking around and seeing everything. Of course knowing how I shop I would have to take five coolers and several bags. I would most likely want to get some of everything I see 😀.

      NATIONAL OUTLET SHOPPING DAY™

The second Saturday in June will annually celebrate National Outlet Shopping Day. This shopping holiday is shaking up the retail landscape this summer at outlet centers across North America.

Planning for summer fun begins with having the right apparel and accessories. After a long winter, we look into our closets and realize the choices can be limited. Having the perfect look–comfortable, flattering and on trend–is any shopper’s goal. There is no better way to get summer kicked off with a bang than shopping and saving. Be sure you’ve got the right outfit to go with every occasion on your summer calendar starting today!

Reasons you need that perfect new summer look:

      Family reunion
      Wedding
      Picnic
      Trip to the beach
      Weekend with girlfriends
      Family vacation
If you have a full agenda of summer fun planned then the best place to find those great looks at great prices is at your favorite outlet shopping destination.

Outlet centers are unique because they are made up of a variety of shops, often exclusive to a specific brand. Outlet centers offer a shopper the option to find what they are looking for using multiple store options.

You can find everything, and anything at an outlet center:

      Shoes
      Handbags
      Dresses
      Summer shorts and tops
      Beach attire
      Hats and sunglasses
      Jewelry
      Gifting ideas

The first outlet center opened in the 1970s in Reading, Pennsylvania. However, the first outlet store opened in the 1930s by Anderson-Little and featured men’s clothing. Today, outlet centers have a variety of clothing and shoe stores, making finding that perfect look easier than ever. In addition, outlet centers are not limited to clothing items anymore, they have stores with just about anything you may need for all your summer fun.

      NATIONAL DRAGONFLY DAY

We are celebrating National Dragonfly Day on the second Saturday in June to bring awareness to one of nature’s most beautiful insects. Join us today as we buzz around learning facts about the big-eyed bug also known as the dragonfly.

Evidence shows dragonflies are nearly 300 million years old. Paleontologists have discovered dragonfly fossils with 3-foot wingspans. Interestingly, some scientists say dragonflies may have been just as large as the size of an eagle today. Let’s celebrate National Dragonfly Day together and learn why this beautiful insect is one of nature’s most wonderful bugs.

Dragonflies are a common summertime insect living in areas of wetlands where you can see them sliding on the surface of the water and then lifting away. They vary in color, ranging from bright metallic to light pastel colors. Their wings are large making them the fastest of all insect species. However, dragonflies must warm up their muscles in order to fly properly.

Dragonflies are expert fliers in comparison to any other insect. The average dragonfly has the ability to fly like a helicopter. In fact, they fly straight up or down, forward, and even hover keeping perfectly level. In addition, the dragonfly is extremely fast and agile. The fastest speed ever documented was 35 mph. Their flying skills and speed help them catch food for survival. If a dragonfly cannot fly, it does not survive.

      6 Unusual Facts About Dragonflies

Most adult dragonflies live for only a few weeks, but some do live up to a year.
The average dragonfly has nearly 30,000 eye facets. In fact, they have 360-degree vision, including the ability to see behind them.
Dragonflies help control the mosquito population, eating up to 100 mosquitos per day.
Dragonflies can live in the winter but are normally small and stumpy in size.
Dragonflies use their feet to catch their food.
Dragonflies can live for years underwater.
The dragonfly has symbolic meaning in almost every part of the world. In fact, many cultures believe this insect symbolizes good luck. Because dragonflies have such short lifespans, they also represent new beginnings and change, especially for strength, growth, courage, and happiness. A few ancient cultures say dreaming about a dragonfly indicates you are in a powerful transition in your life.

      5 Symbolic Dragonfly Beliefs
Asian culture believes the dragonfly represents good luck, prosperity, and new beginnings.
Native Americans believe a dragonfly symbolizes life transformations.
South American cultures believe the dragonfly symbolizes good luck and prosperity. In fact, artists include the dragonfly in their pieces
Africans believe dragonflies are a sign of spirits and bring good luck. Africans also hold dragonflies in high regard because they are water gods who bring rain.
European cultures see the dragonfly as a symbol of change and adaptability. Unsurprisingly, you can find dragonflies included in many European folklore stories and beliefs.
There are around 5,000 species of dragonflies around the world. A dragonfly is classified as an Odonata, which is a family of flying insects that includes dragonflies and damselflies. Though insects are considered unpopular, dragonflies tend to be watched with fascination because of their beauty.

What are the 3 classifications of dragonflies?

Aeshnidae Super Family is the first classification of dragonflies.
Cordulegastridae Super Family are also known as the Flying Adders and have yellow, black, or brown bodies.
Libellulidae Super Family is the most commonly seen dragonfly. This classification is the largest family of dragonflies and is often referred to as the skimmer dragonfly.

      NATIONAL ROSÉ DAY

National Rosé Day on the second Saturday in June each year recognizes a wine that complements many dishes. Rosé is probably the oldest known type of wine, dating back as far as 600 BC. Rosé wines are generally made from red grapes and are very versatile wines. A rosé wine will also be lighter in color than red wine, deeper in color than white wine. The pink color of rosé wine depends on the time the grape skin stays in contact with the juice, also known as maceration. There are also rosé wines that are semi-sparkling or sparkling, with different intensities of sweetness levels and dryness.

Celebrate the day by having a bottle of Rosé wine with dinner or simply invite friends over for h’orderves and enjoy each other’s company. Share your special evening on social media using the hashtag #NationalRoséDay.

      NATIONAL ROSÉ DAY HISTORY
In 2014, Bodvár – House of Rosés – a rosé house specializing in rosé wines, founded National Rosé Day to share their love of the rosé and give rosé lovers a day to unite together and celebrate.

The Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed the day to be observed on the second Saturday in June, annually. The first celebration took place on June 14, 2014.

      BEST FRIENDS DAY

Best Friends Day falls on June 8 each year to honor your closest and dearest friend. The relationship between best friends is often fierce and can withstand distance, storms and silence. Whether we’ve known them all our lives or they are more recently acquired, best friends make tough times bearable, fun times memorable, and memorable times priceless.

When it comes to best friends, they run the gamut. They may be exactly like us or our complete opposite. According to a 2018 Pew Research poll, 98% of teens have one or more close friends. And 78% of them say they have one to five close friends. However, as we move into adulthood, our friendship-making ability changes, along with our priorities.

      Good afternoon Sheba 😊
I hope the storms in your area have been kind to you and just gentle rain.
As far as here, not a drop of water. One day ago we had thunder and lightning and then it just blew over and no rain.

My appointment went well and I was given instructions. Will have to change how I live from now on, but nothing so dramatic.
Have another at the end of the month. Also an upcoming procedure in the end of August. Hopefully I will be done with everything.
Oh I am worst than a child, I hate all this doctors stuff.

I hope you have only good Spring weather and can enjoy the season with your hubby and Poppy.
      Take care Sheba 🌹

Xango at this point I am sure you can handle anything the doctor’s throw your way.
Just follow their instructions and soon you will be right as rain.

Speaking of rain we had a good dose last night and may have the way tonight.

I wish you good health my friend. ✨🌹

      @xango

I was really concerned when you hadn’t posted. Thought for sure you had to pack a bag just in case. I am now doing my happy dance that you are home.

The weather on the Gulf Coast has been dreadful. No rain, though it looked like it. However, our rain chances will go up beginning Tuesday. I hope you get some as well. Weather people predict at least 2″. However, I’m not holding my breath on that one.

If and when you feel like visiting our Farmer’s Market I’m giving you a head’s up. There is construction on I-75 just after the ramp for SR 64. They are doing an on ramp from 301 and a bridge . Eventually, they will begin work on making the 3 lanes, 5 lanes in both directions starting at SR 64. There is a Costco off of SR 64 going East. Target will be going in that area as well as some restaurants and other retail stores. If and when you want to visit the Farmer’s Market (Detwiler’s) just let me know so I can give you directions. It is on 53rd Ave. W. which is also called SR 70.

Great to hear from you and so happy that the doctor gave you a good thumbs up. You will be cooking in no time. 😂😂😂

      @oodiebom,

Good afternoon on the Gulf Coast of Florida. OZ had some really strong thunderstorms
last night. Mother Nature really put on a show we needed the rain. 🎈😎

As soon as I finished posting last night the sky lit up and I shut everything done and made
sure things were charged up. The local weather said some people may lose power. I hate
to hear that so we made sure everything was fully charged. I managed to feed all the
cats I know they were hungry.

Hubby and I are going to have Greek Food and take a break. We have had a busy morning.

We are to have more storms throughout the day. Poppy and I had a good walk and the air
      was crisp and clean. 💕😎

Oodie enjoy your shopping at the market and I hope you get some goodies to take back
to hubby. Please be careful lifting that would wear anyone out.

I do hope we hear from Xango not sure what is going on I just want her to feel better. 🎈

Oodie stay safe when out and about. 😎

      • OODIEBOM
      • 06.08.24 6:53 PM

      @sheba2011

I just hope that xango is OK and if not home, maybe soon.

It is hot and muggy with no rain chance today. Temps will be in the 90s and with the humidity factored in, over 100. Same will be for tomorrow. Monday will be the beginning of a change with storms forecast beginning Tuesday. This will be a tropical thing and hopefully, will give us much needed rain. The prediction is about 2″. That rain will certainly help if it stays on course.

Hubby was in bed when I arrived. He didn’t want dinner. Said he wasn’t hungry. I did notice his tray was on the other tray table. The aid came in soon after and moved the tray to his bedside and with that he started eating. I had my dinner in tow and used the other tray to eat with him. Today I am in the mood for spaghetti and meatballs and will make it in about an hour. I am still doing KP, but one side of the kitchen is starting to sparkle. So onward I will go.

Hope you three have a nice afternoon and evening. Take care and stay safe. Oh, I took my old way home last night. The road was opened and it took just 15 minutes. I am sure it will close again for repaving. This is all because there are over 600 units for low income. They will range from one bedroom to three. The income has to be below 51k.. I will need to find an alternative route when everything is completed. Hopefully, hubby will be home before that happens.

However, our route North just took a big detour. The interstate will add five lanes North and South. This has already started and will take awhile. The route change will begin at Costco. Not sure at this point if it will continue to our exit that puts us on I-95. There are times that I think we will never head North. This is one of them.

      @oodiebom,

Good evening I would love to have some of your spaghetti and meatballs .

Our prayers were answered and Xango has posted. 🌹✨

I am sorry it is hot and stuffy please turn that A/C on and stay cool.

Oodie I often wondered how you felt about going back North.

I know you think about it I know I would. I wish you could take a plane and go
check on things for a few days. I would have a private nurse look after hubby.

Well OZ has another storm on the horizon and we are ready. ✨Wish I could send
you and Xango some good gentle rain.

I had just enough time to jump in the shower and grab Poppy.

I am still dealing with the sinus issue soon this too shall pass.

      NATIONAL DOUGHNUT (DONUT) DAY

Each year on the first Friday in June, people participate in National Doughnut or Donut Day. This food holiday celebrates the delicious doughnut and honors the Salvation Army Lassies. In case you didn’t know, the Salvation Army Lassies are the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during WWI.

National Doughnut Day origins begin during WWI, which is also referred to as the First World War. Over 4 million U.S. men and women served during the war, with almost 3 million of those serving overseas. With conflicts taking place in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and the Pacific, WWI was most difficult for troops fighting on the front lines.

In 1917, a group of women were sent to the front lines in France by The Salvation Army. They were directed to set up field bases near the front lines to try to boost morale among troops. The makeshift “huts” were a place where soldiers could stock up on necessities and get a small break from the fighting. Little did they know The Salvation Army Lassie’s would not only boost morale, but make history in the creation of one of the most celebrated food holidays.

The women who were working at the field bases felt they wanted to do more than simply restocking troop supplies. They began making home-cooked food for the troops in hopes the food would give them a small taste of home. It was during this time, the Lassies began handing out a sweet baked treat that would become known as The Salvation Army Doughnut. The story says the doughnuts were cooked inside the helmets of the troops, dubbing them as “doughboys”, which was a standard term used for donut. The Donut Lassies are said to be reason we have National Doughnut Day today!

On this day, many bakeries and coffee shops in the United States offer doughnut deals to their customers.

      NATIONAL CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM DAY

National Chocolate Ice Cream Day falls on June 7 and all you need for this food holiday is chocolate ice cream. Whether you eat it in a bowl, with a cone, or directly out of the container, National Chocolate Ice Cream Day is a day for everyone.

Chocolate ice cream has been around since the late 19th century. This ice cream flavor is the second most common flavor in the world, right behind vanilla. History says chocolate ice cream was created in 1775 by Italian doctor Filippo Baldini. In his written work De Sorbetti, Dr. Baldini recommended chocolate ice cream as a remedy to treat or cure various medical conditions, including gout and scurvy. However, there is some debate as to whether Dr. Baldini was actually talking about chocolate sorbet.

      Chocolate Vs. Vanilla
There is a serious debate that goes on between ice cream connoisseurs. Some people say vanilla ice cream came first, while other say chocolate ice cream came first. Instead of picking a side, we decided to present some simple facts and let you decide which ice cream came first, chocolate or vanilla.

The earliest frozen chocolate recipe was published in The Modern Steward by Antoni Latini in 1693. Cocoa was readily available in the form of coffee and tea, so it makes sense that people would freeze those beverages to eventually create a frozen chocolate treat.

Vanilla ice cream, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to appear in any ice cream recipe until the 1760s. Unlike cocoa, vanilla was not available to anyone. In fact, vanilla was rarely found in common households and only available to royalty. There are some publications that state vanilla ice cream was served in royal courts, but there is little evidence to back that up in the form of handwritten recipes.

      WORLD CARING DAY

Each year on June 7, World Caring Day shines a spotlight on all the ways we connect and show each other how much we care. Afterall, we should always take time to celebrate the millions of acts of caring we see. All acts of caring, whether big or small, are important. Caring is continuous and happens every day through compassion, support, kindness and understanding.

In a world of many worries, one of the easiest ways to show love is by caring. We all experience times of crisis, illness or need. Sharing our journeys and becoming a part of a beautiful story in a segmented, cynical world recognizes and celebrates the people who care. When we take the time to notice, we see patience, understanding, kindness and encouragement from everyone around us.

We want to use World Caring Day as a way to remind others to take the opportunity and practice caring for one another. Now more than ever, we need to lean into caring for one another. Using this day as an opportunity to share compassion and shows genuine love as a blessing to ourselves and others. By sincerely asking how someone’s day went will show that you care. This simple act will improve that person’s overall well-being.

George never managed to repeat the success of “Faith”, although this was hardly possible. The singer switched to slow adult ballads and tried to rethink himself.

I hope we hear from xango soon. Have a feeling she was told to pack a bag just in case. Have a feeling she had or is about to have another procedure. Hope and pray that everything comes together for her and the healing process can begin.

Sorry. Completely allergic to donuts since one of the ingredients is definitely corn starch. Corn starch and corn syrup are considered sulfites. Now I realize why I couldn’t eat them as a child or as an adult. Who knew????

I am about to head for a shower and to get ready to see hubby. I missed him yesterday when I had other problems.

It is very hot and humid here. We have had no rain and I will need to water some plants before leaving to see hubby. Looks like we may see some of those droplets next week. Our drought is sky high. Take care and stay safe.

      NATIONAL EYEWEAR DAY

June 6 is National Eyewear Day on the National Day Calendar and we clearly see the importance of bringing awareness to eye health and comprehensive eye exams. Join us as we share why taking care of your eyes is important to you health.

Spectacles have been around for about seven centuries, but early versions were only worn by monks and scholars. In fact, the first pair of eyeglasses consisted of two magnifying glasses that were set into bone with a hinge on the nose.

These first glasses were invented in Northern Italy around the late 13th century where eyeglasses were monks who used the spectacles to copy religious manuscripts. They wore them to read as well. Unfortunately, monks and other scholars who wore these eyeglasses had a hard time keeping them on their face.

In 1452, the invention of the printing press caused the demand for eyeglasses to soar. Many manufacturers came up with ways to make them more wearable. However, it wasn’t until 1730 that an optician from London added rods to the frames so that they could rest on the ears. About 22 years later, hinges were added to the rods. Through the years, there have been many eyeglass innovations.

      5 Eyewear Innovations
Bifocals were invented in the 1760s. These eyeglasses made it possible to see objects both close up and far away.
Monocles were developed in the late 18th century and were worn around the neck. Interestingly, monocles were mainly worn by aristocrats.
Pince-nez were invented in the late 19th century. These eyeglasses were held in place by a spring-clip between the lenses instead of frames.
Sunglasses are a kind of dark eyeglasses that became popular in America around 1929. Eventually, sunglasses became an essential fashion item still in use today.
Ray-Ban are also knowns as “Aviators.” First developed for pilots in the 1930s, Ray-Ban eyeglasses were are now especially popular with celebrities.
In addition, plastic would change eyewear forever. Since the 1940s, plastic has made it possible to develop frames in a wide range of colors and styles. Some of the most popular eyeglass styles made from plastic have included cat-eye, round-rimmed, and oversized frames.

3 Reasons National Eyewear Day Matters
National Eyewear Day is a reminder for everyone to take good care of their eyes. Here are 3 reasons National Eyewear Day is important:

The day reminds everyone to get yearly comprehensive routine eye exam.
Today is a good day to remind us to keep our prescriptions updated to prevent serious eye problems.
National Eyewear day is also a reminder to protect our eyes from harmful UV rays with a pair of sunglasses.
Today, eyewear continues to not only improve our vision, plus adds elements of style and personality. Imagine John Lennon without his iconic round frames. Would Maverick be Top Gun without his aviators? No one would recognize Harry Caray without his trademark face-covering frames. Can you imagine seeing a picture of Teddy Roosevelt without his frameless glasses?

Eyewear defines, outlines, and punctuates a personality, too. Eyewear can be a little covert. For example, who is Clark Kent without his frames? Though many may have tried, no one wore the dark tortoise shells better than Audrey Hepburn.

      3 Fun Fact About Eyewear
About 64% of the adult population wears prescription eyewear.
61% of people who need eyewear are nearsighted and 31 percent are farsighted.
Over 12 million Americans need vision correction, but don’t have any eyewear.
Clearly, eyewear plays a significant role in our lives. From improving vision and protection to providing a variety of style options, it certainly is something to celebrate on National Eyewear Day.

      D-Day

D-Day is June 6 on the National Day Calendar and we are honoring those who fought on the beaches of Normandy, France. This historical day is a reminder of the day troops of Allied forces staged one of the most pivotal attacks against Germany during World War II.

The Battle of Normandy was executed under the codename Operation Overlord and became known as the beginning of the end of World War II. The Battle took place was along a 50 mile stretch of beaches, including Utah and Omaha Beach. While many explanations exist for the name, many believe the word “Day” means nothing more than what it is and the countdown the day and hour of the assault.

The U.S., Britain, and Canada sent more than 160,000 Allied troops under the leadership of General Dwight Eisenhower. The troops manned more than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft the day of the initial landing and is considered one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history. An amphibious military operation requires the use of naval ships to project ground and air power at a designated landing beach. Due to the sheer numbers of troops, ships, and aircraft involved, Operation Overlord required extensive planning. The Battle of Normandy liberated Northern France, but more importantly, began the liberation of millions of people across Europe.

Message to the troops of Normandy: “You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you.”

Dwight Eisenhower, Supreme Allied Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force, 1944

      6 Interesting D-Day Facts
About 150,000 Allied troops successfully carried out their mission to storm the beaches of Normandy. Unfortunately, nearly 10,000 lives were lost on that single day.
The Normandy invasion was a vital turn in the war and turned the tide in the war against the Nazis. The successful mission was a huge blow to Hitler.
The Normandy Invasion is one of the most significant events of WWII.
Allied forces consisted of troops from U.S., Australia, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Greece, New Zealand, Norway, and Poland.
Over 18,000 Allied paratroopers were dropped into the invasion area.
A few months before D-Day, General Eisenhower threatened to quit due to being at odds with Winston Churchill over a controversial plan.

      NATIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION DAY

National Higher Education Day falls on June 6 on the National Day Calendar. This National Day is intended to help you prepare a path towards a higher education degree. Our hope is to share encouraging information for to those interested or already pursuing a higher education degree.

Exponential costs of higher education and the U.S. opportunity gap have turned a college degree into something of a luxury for many Americans. Guiding and motivating future and current college students through the process of preparing for higher education will help increase their chances of graduating with a degree. Today, we are determined to educate and inspire people to pursue a degree in higher education.

Today is a day to encourage students, educators, and families to tackle some of the issues of higher education head-on. By helping students find financial resources, addressing their educational goals, and focusing on their total health and well-being, students will look forward to a successful higher eduation experience. It is equally important to encourage students to graduate from high school. All students must find ways to overcome the challenges in the world. Supporting and encouraging higher education will help students strive for a better future.

The factors that affect the choice of college include academic reputation, availability of desired program, job placement rate, cost of attendance, and location.

      College Degree Obstacles
Expense. The cost of attending a college or university continues to rise and can be a major factor on why someone decides not to go to college.
Indecision. Many students change their major multiple times during their college career. Having the proper guidance can help a student focus on a career path they will love.
Family. Commitments to family conflict with educational goals. A family that encourages students to pursue their own dreams paves the way for a better life for everyone.
Unpreparedness. Many students are not prepared for the transition from high school to college. Oftentimes, they find the course work more difficult. Students who have support of peers and mentors can better match abilities to courses. In fact, helping students find services, such as a tutor, will help the student progress.
Mental health. Many students lack solid coping skills for the stressors of academic life, especially at the higher education level. Providing services and direction can help a student overcome and deal with college.
It is my desire to have a National Higher Education Day to educate and promote the many different ways students can fund their education. By having a National Day I will be able to inspire students of all ages to never give up on their dream of receiving a higher education degree! Izamar Olaguez, founder of National Higher Education Day.

About 51 percent of adults in the U.S. consider a college education to be very important. These adults believe that higher education will help them earn higher wages and decrease unemployment. Unfortunately, the majority of colleges admit less than 10 percent of the applicants are actually accepted into a college or university. Luckily, community colleges are an affordable option for anyone to take college courses. In fact, community colleges offer many programs four year college and universities offer through online programs. These programs give students the opportunity to obtain their degree without having the stressors of a large campus.

      @sheba2011

Yesterday the heat was awful. I managed somehow to drive to the Dollar and a Quarter store which now has items that are $5 and over. There was no air. The humidity frightening. The Farmer’s Market is next door, but I decided it was not a day to linger in the parking lot. From the Dollar Store drove to Aldi’s. As I was walking to the carriages gun fire ensued. At first I thought it was a car back firing, but it kept on going. Once my shopping was done and started unloading the carriage, noticed police cars around the area. This area is filled with restaurants, supermarket, mom and pa shops, furniture stores, car dealerships, etc. .I surmise this is the” new” Florida. And I thought this only happened on the East Coast.

I purchased ice cream from Aldi’s and brought some in a plastic thermos container. I was surprised that everything was still frozen when I reached hubby’s room. I arrived in time for dessert. But, I didn’t think I would make it. My right knee was very painful and thankfully i had meds with me to counteract it. I have a feeling that I no longer should lift and carry heavy things from car to house and then back again for hubby. Once the meds took hold, I was fine.

The route to the rehab is closed and so the new one takes a good half hour. Funny, same number of traffic lights and mileage. The odor from Tropicana is awful. I commented on that yesterday to the Aid. We have no idea how people can breathe that stuff day in and day out. I guess like everything else, they become oblivious. There are many homes surrounding the plant’s campus. Glad I am way over on the other side.

Like you, I am multi tasking today. Made a box lot, no, make that two box lots for donation. I’m a happy camper over this. Clutter be gone.

I am coming along. I am so sorry about the noise. A lot is going on every where. Shizzle!

      @taci,

Good Morning in S. California. 😎🎈I hope you are feeling great.

Yeah the outdoors is the price we pay OZ has a high pollen count and that did not
help the sinus situation. Hey I am still going out to garden and walk. 😎🎈

      How are you feeling today?

Taci we are trying something different we watch the cats eat and when they are done
we bring their food container in the house. No more outside all the time which you
are right can attract other critters. We had a coyote on the porch one cold night.
This does not happen often but it happened and we just was there when the critter made
his way up. So once the cats are done eating everything comes in. I do leave fresh water
for all to enjoy the possums are especially wanting water.

Hey enjoy the trails and if you come up on this view you just may be in OZ. LOL! 🎈😎

I’m feeling good just a dry cough, but I still did my hour hike and love getting out. We were going to drive about 1 1/2 hours away to hike and stay overnight but will wait until next week to make sure i feel up to it. Hope you feel better soon. We all probably have a version of the same thing.
You mentioned high pollen count, and I was surprised that we have a lot of bad air quality days here. Petal Profusion is looking lovely online.
Today I sprayed garden plants with an online tip to mix water, dish soap and cayenne pepper then hubs goes out to gab cilantro for his dinner. Oops. I told him but it was too late and he didn’t seem to notice.

      @shoelady60,

Good day in the ‘burgh. 😎🎈I am trying to slow things down a bit in my little world.

You are right about the critter Poppy is my main concern. So we bring all food in at
night. We do leave fresh water for all to drink.

This is a multi-task day well almost every day can be a multi-task day. LOL!

I hope your cough is easing up give it a minute. Meantime I would not do too much.

Sending cool vibes to you and Jake. 🎈😎Here is to feeling better soon.

Hi Sheba, hope you are a tad better today. I am about the same, no better, no worse.😏 This cough will end one of these days.

Like you, a multi-task day, in and out, up and down.🙄 Probably the same tomorrow but I should be home after I get my donuts!🍩

Hope we both can get some sleep tonight.😴 Hugs to you and Poppy.🤗💖
