Conversation 25

Hello Peeps time for a new Conversation Thread. This is number 25 out of the
series. I created and started this thread 10 years ago.

I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. โœจ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. ๐ŸŒนโœจ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Father Figure
    Song by George Michael

    That’s all I wanted
Something special something sacred in your eyes
For just one moment to be bold and naked at your side
Sometimes I think that you never understand me (understand me)
Maybe this time is forever say it can be
    W-h-o-a…
    That’s all you wanted
Something special someone sacred in your life
Just for one moment to be warm and naked at my side
Sometimes I think that you never understand me (understand me)
But something tells me together we’d be happy
    W-h-o-a baby
I will be your father figure
    Oh baby
Put your tiny hand in mine
I will be your preacher teacher
    Be your daddy
    Anything you have in mind
I will be your father figure
I have had enough of crime
    Except me
I will be the one who loves you ’til the end of time
Do it do it do it do it oh baby
    That’s all I wanted
But sometimes love can be mistaken for a crime
    That’s all I wanted
Just to see my baby’s blue eyes shine
This time I think that my lover understands me
    (understands me)
If we have faith in each other then we can be strong baby
I will be your father figure
Put your tiny hand in mine
    My baby
I will be your preacher teacher
    Anything you have in mind
I will be your father figure
I have had enough of crime
I will be the one who loves you ’til the end of time
If you are the desert I’ll be the sea
If you ever hunger hunger for me
Whatever you ask for that’s what I’ll be
So when you remember the ones who have lied
Who said that they cared but then laughed as you cried
Beautiful darling don’t think of me…
    Because all I ever wanted
    It’s in your eyes baby-baby-baby
    And love can’t lie no
Greet me with the eyes of a child
My love is always telling me so
(heaven is a kiss and a smile)
    Just hold on hold on
Won’t let you go my baby
I will be your father figure
Put your tiny hand in mine
I will be your preacher teacher
Anything you have in mine baby
I will be your father figure
I have had enough of crime
So I am gonna love you ’til the end of time
    I will be your father
    I will be your…
    I will be your preacher
    (I’ll be your daddy)
    I’ll be your daddy
    W-h-o-a
I will be the one who loves you ’til the end of time…

      George Michael Lyrics
      “Careless Whisper”

      I feel so unsure
      As I take your hand
And lead you to the dance floor
      As the music dies
      Something in your eyes
Calls to mind a silver screen
      And all its sad goodbyes

      I’m never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
      Though it’s easy to pretend
      I know you’re not a fool
I should’ve known better than to cheat a friend
And waste the chance that I’d been given
So I’m never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you

      Time can never mend
The careless whispers of a good friend
      To the heart and mind
      Ignorance is kind
There’s no comfort in the truth
      Pain is all you’ll find

      I’m never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
      Though it’s easy to pretend
      I know you’re not a fool
I should’ve known better than to cheat a friend
      (Should have known better, yeah)
And waste the chance that I’d been given
So I’m never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you

      Never without your love

Tonight the music seems so loud
I wish that we could lose this crowd
      Maybe it’s better this way
We’d hurt each other with the things we want to say
We could have been so good together
We could have lived this dance forever
But now who’s gonna dance with me?
      Please stay

And I’m never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
      Though it’s easy to pretend
      I know you’re not a fool
I should’ve known better than to cheat a friend
And waste the chance that I’d been given
So I’m never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you

      Now that you’re gone
      Now that you’re gone

      Now that you’re gone
Was what I did so wrong, so wrong
That you had to leave me alone?

“If you are the desert I’ll be the sea
If you ever hunger hunger for me
Whatever you ask for that’s what I’ll be…”
The passion expressed by George through his songs, is represented by a touching ballad that revolves around the intimacy between two lovers. And to think that the song was initially conceived as a dance piece, only to be transformed, during the writing phase, into an R&B ballad with the addition of elements of gospel and Middle Eastern music.
The religious aura that began with the organ of “Faith” is instead supported here by the backing vocals of Shirlie Lewis; the delicacy of the song is also enhanced by Hugh Burns’ guitar solo.
What about the video? An absolute must! The same tells the story between a taxi driver (George) and a high fashion model (Tania Coleridge), winning the “MTV Video Music Awards” in 1988 and it couldn’t be otherwise, with that black and white interspersed with soft colours, which they tell a past and tormented story.

      NATIONAL INSURANCE AWARENESS DAY

National Insurance Awareness Day on June 28 encourages us to review our insurance policies.
Insurance offers security, covering loved ones, and recovering losses in the event of damage, illness, or death. It offers protection but over time the value of our homes and the items in them may appreciate or change. What was once worth $100,000.00 a decade ago may be worth much more today. Be sure your policies keep up with the values.

No matter where we live, replacing everything we own would be difficult if disaster struck. From the first-time apartment to the 30-year mortgage, our possessions, property, loved ones and even those who visit deserve the protection the comes with homeowners or renters policy.

      NATIONAL PAUL BUNYAN DAY

On June 28, we fondly remember the tales of the big blue ox and a mighty lumberjack. It is National Paul Bunyan Day! Described as a giant and a lumberjack of unusual skill, Paul Bunyan is one of the most famous North American folklore heroes.

      NATIONAL LOGISTICS DAY

National Logistics Dayโ„ข on June 28 promotes appreciation for the important role the logistics industry plays in both our national and global economies!

The logistics industry first started to take form when Marco Polo traveled to China on the Silk Road. His detailed written record paved the way for future traders and merchants traveling between Europe and China. In 1896, the invention of the “horseless carriage” semi-truck improved how goods moved across our country. Just 14 years later, the first air cargo flight took place in 1910. The flight between Dayton and Columbus dramatically increased the speed with which goods could be delivered in the U.S. By 1956, the first container ship sailed from the port of New Jersey to Texas. Shipments forever changed how goods moved around the world. These advancements demonstrate how logistics connect the world – and always have.

      NATIONAL ALASKA DAY

On June 28 we celebrate Alaska on National Alaska Day and recognizes the largest state to join the union and the Nationโ€™s Last Frontier.

Not only is Alaska the largest state, but it is also home to the highest mountain peaks in the country, including Mt. Denali. In The Last Frontier, itโ€™s possible to test the theories associated with the Bering Land Bridge. Check out the remote and intriguing location of North Americaโ€™s history.

Populated by Inuit, Yupik, Tlingit, and others long before Russian and European explorers found their way to the Arctic land, Alaska supported the indigenous people with sufficient whale fat, beaver, and fish.

The Land of the Midnight Sun led to the next great gold rush. In the Yukon, many would venture into the rugged North expecting to find riches in the Klondike. Those who did, would find it difficult to get it back out againโ€ฆalive.

The Iditarod takes place in Alaska and runs 1,150 miles from Anchorage to Nome. Honoring the traditions of the sled dog culture and the Iditarod Trail, the annual event draws thousands of spectators and online viewers. In 1925, Leonhard Seppala along with several other mushers delivered much-needed anti-diphtheria serum to Nome along the same route.

The immense Denali National Park and Preserve is home to glaciers, fossil records, and a study in geology. All along the Alaska Range, the pristine wilderness provides hikers the most well-marked trails outstanding views, and peaceful vistas.

Hi Sheba, hoping that you are feeling better. Sinus issues are not fun.
It poured down here, lots and lots of rain this afternoon. Actually for the entire afternoon and into the evening with storms.

Had an early appointment at the doctor’s, labs went well. Have to reduce my fats intake due to my liver.

Stopped by the supermarke got lots of fruits all kinds. Along with veggies, broccoli was pretty high but got it anyway love broccoli sautรฉed with garlic.
Didn’t sleep much last night, so I took a good nap on the sofa this afternoon with the rain.
Hubby worked from home half the day.

      • 06.29.24 3:18 AM

      @xango,

Good evening I know all about the liver I had emergency gall bladder surgery. The pain
came out of nowhere I put on morphine. All I saw was purple for a week. Anyway the liver
took a hit and they would not release me from the hospital for eight days and mostly due
to my liver enzymes they were off the charts. All I did was adjust my diet and my liver was
tested and it is a perfect liver. The test the hospital did on me was very forensic and needed
approval from my insurance company the whole HSN Community knew about that surgery
this was about nine years ago. Everything turned out great.

Xango sinus headache again thunderstorms on the way.

Hey take it easy I love all the foods you do I am sure you can make anything tasty. โœจ๐ŸŒน

Hi. Sounds like you received a pretty good report. I didn’t expect anything less. I also had a feeling that you went food shopping. Just wish our Farmer’s Market was closer to you. Traffic on I-75 is becoming more ridiculous. There is now at least a 45 minute backup between SR 70 and SR 64 which is only 3 miles between the exits. I have no idea how this would impact you going South.

Well, it was mostly cloudy all day with promises of rain. That’s all it was. A promise. Tomorrow there is over an 80% chance, but I will not hold my breath. Like Sheba, I have been fighting those sinus headaches. Today was not the best and around 3pm I took my pills and next thing I knew it was after 7 pm. It was too late to see hubby. Had dinner and now will go back to do some KP.

Hi, how are you and your husband doing?

I hope you can get your hubby into a better place or even better, home.

The doctor appointment went well, she spent a long time with me explaining everything. Labs were somewhat good, my liver, needs attention.
I will need to reduce my daily fat intake 20 percent. That’s going to be hard, I like dairy, especially cheese.

      Take care Oodiebom.

      • OODIEBOM
      • 06.29.24 2:36 AM

      @xango

Now, that'[s something. Both of us writing at the same time. Amazing!!!

I adore cheese also. There are many cheese manufacturers that have cut the fat in cheese. You just need to read the labels. Also, some cheeses are less fatty. I also use the Air Fryer a lot to cut down on oil and fats. Spices do help as well by adding to the flavor. I have also cut down on red meat and instead learned to really like chicken and fish and sometimes pork. Adding fresh veggies makes everything taste sweeter. I usually add the fresh veggies to the pot or pan. I rarely use a steamer. Instead of oil or butter, I use water. Though cutting down on the fats and cholesterol seems difficult, it really isn’t. It just is another recipe for good health. Oh, before I forget. I also add all kinds of fruit to the pot as well. Just be careful not to overcook it. You may also want to look at Andrew Lessman’s vitamins for liver and see if those can help. This will also help your hubby’s heart as well.

I didn’t see hubby today. The sinus headache started coming on around 3 pm. I thought maybe it had something to do with the weather, so I waited a bit. Seems the storm fizzled and so I took my meds and fell asleep. I awoke around 7 pm to the phone ringing. Too late to take the car to rehab. So, now will begin some of that kp thing. And to think I was going to make a stop for Asian food take out.

      • OODIEBOM
      • 06.30.24 3:25 AM

      @sheba2011

I assume you are having some nasty weather and your sinuses are also acting up. I’m having the same problem. The air quality is bad, but the meds do help if taken when the thing begins. Today we had two thunder claps and lightning with a little rain. Hoping for some rain during the night or early morning. You can cut the air with a knife. The humidity is over 90%.

Spent a few hours with hubby today. He was very cheerful. I brought him some cut up watermelon that was on sale and some other things for tomorrow. I am hoping he will come home in July of this year. He isn’t able to stand or walk. Just do not know how I can get him from bed to wheelchair and then into the car. He so much wants to take the electric cart around Costco and also the Farmer’s Market. The Rehab stops too soon with the PT and I hear that happens quite often with other patients as well. I will be working with our Health Insurance people to see what we can do. Quite a lot of new things for the handicapped. Will be starting with the bed and mattress and then go from there.

I almost purchased Joy’s TS. Well, actually I did and then cancelled. Just do not know how my allergies would react. She claims that the spray will get rid of the wax on apples and also will clean the fruit and veggies so that there isn’t any residue of the sprays used to take care of the bugs.

Well, back to doing a few things in the kitchen. Hope you feel better.

      NATIONAL BOMB POP DAY

The last Thursday in June is reserved for enjoying a summertime favorite on National Bomb Pop Day. Its rocket shape and vivid colors remind us of fireworks preparing you for the excitement of the upcoming 4th of July holiday.

Patriotic and frozen into the shape of a star ready to rocket across the sky, the Bomb Pop came to fruition during the Cold War. Invented in 1955 in Kansas City, Missouri, Bomb Pops are also known as the red, white, and blue frozen treat. Not only are they perfect for cooling off on a hot summer’s day, but Bomb Pops also satisfy a sweet tooth, too.

      NATIONAL ORANGE BLOSSOM DAY

National Orange Blossom Day on June 27 encourages us to enjoy orange blossoms for their aesthetic beauty. Orange blossoms have been used in culinary dishes, desserts, teas worldwide, and add a slight citrus flavor to any dish. It’s time to catch a whiff of orange scented facts!

The orange blossom is a flower of the orange tree. It is used to make perfumes and add a citrus note to foods. Traditionally, the orange blossom has been associated with good fortune and happiness. Interestingly, the orange blossom can be either sweet or citrusy, depending on the current use.

Fragrant orange blossoms offer multiple health benefits. When prepared correctly, they make a delicious tea or orange blossom water. Some of the advantages may include improved sleep, reduced anxiety, and improved circulation.

Not surprisingly, the orange blossom is Florida’s state flower. Not only do the flowers result in the sweet as sunshine orange fruit, but thanks to the pollinating bees, we also get to enjoy unique honey with a faintly orange flavor a delightful treat. The blossom’s scent also goes into making perfumes and other fragrances for the home.

      NATIONAL ONION DAY

Through all the years โ€” and sometimes tears โ€” National Onion Day on June 27 recognizes the flavor and aroma the bulb of the allium family brings to numerous recipes.

Whether we choose a sweet, white, red, or the ever-favorite yellow, we count on the onion to enhance the flavor of our savory recipes. They pair well with meats and salads, making the versatile onion a cooking powerhouse. Added to eggs or pickled, it’s the required seasoning next to our salt and pepper.

While the onion packs in the flavor with very few calories, it’s also rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. Add onions to every meal to increase your dietary fiber and vitamin B6. As a bonus, you won’t be adding any cholesterol. With so many varieties to choose from, onions provide plenty of opportunities for us to relish the benefits.

      NATIONAL ICE CREAM CAKE DAY

National Ice Cream Cake Day on June 27 each year brings two celebration favorites together under one delicious treat! And in the height of summer, an ice cream cake creates the perfect dessert for just about any occasion.

Ice cream cake makers build these treats out of any flavor of ice cream into the shape of a cake. And they can add many different ingredients, too. Whether you like cookie crumbs, sponge cake, fudge, fruit, or caramel between the layers, they make delicious things happen. Then they take it a step further with the decorating. They begin by adding frosting, whipped cream, or icing. Just like baked cakes, ice cream cakes are decorated to fit any theme or celebration.

Although the origin of the ice cream cake remains somewhat of a mystery, there’s no doubting this popular dessert combines two classics. Between the classic summer treat, ice cream, and the time-honored celebratory cake, the ice cream cake becomes one of culinary history’s favorite combinations.

      NATIONAL SUNGLASSES DAY

National Sunglasses Day happens each year on June 27 as a day to inform people about the dangers of UV exposure. Wearing sunglasses is more than to just a fashion statement. Wearing sunglasses is also about protecting your eyes from harmful elements.

The history of sunglasses can be traced back to the Inuit tribes in the Arctic regions. In order to maintain vision from the glare of the snow and water reflections, the Inuits created an eye covering with slits in front of the pupils to control exposure to brightness. Made from bone or wood, the Inuit eye coverings were the inspiration for contemporary goggles.

It’s unclear who invented the first pair of sunglasses. We do know as eyeglasses improved, so did the idea of sunglasses. In fact, the initial design of glasses was has been the same since the 1760s–frames sitting on the bridge of the nose with “arms” resting over the ears. It wasn’t until the 1900s when sunglasses became a fashion accessory after movie stars began wearing them on movie sets.

      Sunglasses Through the Years

      Prada Model SPR07F
Most known for their appearance in the 1963 Academy Award-winning Italian film 8 ยฝ, these glasses are anything but old-fashioned. Prada first introduced the design as Prada model SPR07F, but the design has undergone some changes since the 60s. Regardless, these sunglasses might be one of the only designs that can not only be worn with a suit, but that makes a suit look so good.

      Persol 714

The original folding glasses, the Persol 714 sunglasses debuted in the 1960s when the iconic actor Steve McQueen wore them in the film The Thomas Crown Affair. These glasses were based on the Persol 649 model. However, the adaptations included 10 additional manufacturing steps to allow them to fold. In 2006, a pair of Persol 714s from McQueenโ€™s personal collection were auctioned off at nearly $70,000. Get suave with aโ€”perhaps less expensiveโ€”pair for National Sunglasses Day.

      Ray-Ban Wayfarer

At their introduction in 1956, Ray-Banโ€™s Wayfarers revolutionary plastic frame made the design almost instantly popular. The design was a distinct diversion from the metal-framed sunglasses that were popular at the time. The sunglasses popularity continued throughout the โ€˜50s and โ€˜60s but then slumped until the late 2000s when artists like Katy Perry and Bruno Mars wore them in their music videos.

      Round and Oversized

Often known today simply as Jackie Oโ€™s, these sunglasses were popularized by former First Lady and fashion icon Jackie Kennedy during the years that her husband was president. They are instantly recognizable by their large round shape and still serve to make quite a fashion statement when worn today. Itโ€™s hard to wear these sunglasses and not channel some of the grace, style, and elegance that Jackie was so famous for.

Hi Sheba, I hope this fines you feeling better today.

We just had the most lovely rain here. It stormed, wind and rain. The Sun came out and then, again more rain.
After it stopped the bunny was in the backyard. And so was a Red Cardinal, so beautiful. I threw some strawberries for them.
The humidity, you can cut it with a knife so I looked it up and it’s 90 percent.

I took it easy today and went to see hubby late afternoon. His short term memory loss seems to be returning. He remembered that I wasn’t there yesterday. Today, the jaw felt better, but the sinus headache returned. Meds took care of that issue. Looked like rain most of the day, but as usual it fizzled. I think the rain chances will increase over the weekend.

Still no sign of the spoonbill. Actually, the birds we used to see here have stopped coming. This is due to the HOA telling us to pull the weeds from the lake so that the area looks decent. As it turned out this was the wrong advice. Seems we pulled and cut the food chain for the birds, fish, turtles, etc.. Even the geckoes are dwindling. The latter may be due to the heat and they are spending more time underground. Actually, given the amount of rain we’ve had in the last week or so, the lake looks better. We will just have to wait and see if the lake can replenish itself.

Take care and enjoy the rest of your evening. Hope you start feeling better.

Sheba, you and your nephew and family have every right to be upset. It’s not ok and to flee much worse.
Well thought I would post before the big event. Looks like I will check out a gym tomorrow. Today, 2 Coyotes were on the main path near the entrance and weren’t leaving. I waited and one went on his way but the other started towards me. I think it’s curious but too close for me. A jogger was near me and I showed him the Coyotes and he gave it a go and walked slowly past them and was on his way. The friend I walk with will want to go next week.
      Hope you are feeling better!

      Hot Fun in the Summertime
Song by Sly and the Family Stone

      End of the spring
      And here she comes back
      Hi, hi, hi, hi there
      Them summer days
      Those summer days
      That’s when I had
      Most of my fun, back
      Hi, hi, hi, hi there
      Them summer days
      Those summer days
I cloud nine when I want to
      Out of school, yeah
County fair in the country sun
      And everything is true
      Ooh, yeah, yeah
      Hot fun in the summertime
      Hot fun in the summertime
      Hot fun in the summertime
      Hot fun in the summertime
      First of the fall
      And then she goes back
      Bye, bye, bye, bye there
      Them summer days
      Those summer days
      Boop-boop-boop-boop
      When I want to
      Out of school
County fair in the country sun
      And everything is cool
      Ooh, yeah, yeah
Hot fun in the summertime (hey, hey, hey, ooh)
Hot fun in the summertime (ooh, yeah)
      Hot fun in the summertime

      Good Vibrations
      Song by The Beach Boys

I-I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air
      I’m pickin’ up good vibrations
She’s giving me the excitations (oom bop bop)
I’m pickin’ up good vibrations (good vibrations, oom bop bop)
She’s giving me the excitations (excitations, oom bop bop)
I’m pickin’ up good vibrations (oom bop bop)
She’s giving me the excitations (excitations, oom bop bop)
I’m pickin’ up good vibrations (oom bop bop)
She’s giving me the excitations (excitations)
Close my eyes, she’s somehow closer now
Softly smile, I know she must be kind
When I look in her eyes
She goes with me to a blossom world
      I’m pickin’ up good vibrations
She’s giving me excitations (oom bop bop)
I’m pickin’ up good vibrations (good vibrations, oom bop bop)
She’s giving me excitations (excitations, oom bop bop)
Good, good, good, good vibrations (oom bop bop)
She’s giving me excitations (excitations, oom bop bop)
Good, good, good, good vibrations (oom bop bop)
      She’s giving me excitations (excitations)
Ah, ah, my my, what elation
I don’t know where but she sends me there
Oh, my my, what a sensation
      Oh, my my, what elation
      Oh, my my, what
Gotta keep those lovin’ good vibrations a-happenin’ with her
Gotta keep those lovin’ good vibrations a-happenin’ with her
Gotta keep those lovin’ good vibrations a-happenin’
Good, good, good, good vibrations (oom bop bop)
She’s giving me the excitations (excitations, oom bop bop)
      I’m pickin’ up good vibrations
Na na na na na, na na na
Na na na na na, na na na (bop bop-bop-bop-bop, bop)
Do do do do do, do do do (bop bop-bop-bop-bop, bop)

      Kokomo
      Song by The Beach Boys

Aruba, Jamaica, ooh, I wanna take ya
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
      Key Largo, Montego
      Baby, why don’t we go?
      Jamaica
      Off the Florida Keys
      There’s a place called Kokomo
      That’s where you wanna go
To get away from it all
      Bodies in the sand
Tropical drink melting in your hand
      We’ll be falling in love
To the rhythm of a steel drum band
      Down in Kokomo
Aruba, Jamaica, ooh, I wanna take you to
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
      Key Largo, Montego
Baby, why don’t we go? (Ooh, I wanna take you down to Kokomo)
      We’ll get there fast
And then we’ll take it slow
      That’s where we wanna go
      Way down in Kokomo
      Martinique, that Montserrat mystique
      We’ll put out to sea
      And we’ll perfect our chemistry
      By and by we’ll defy
      A little bit of gravity
      Afternoon delight
      Cocktails and moonlit nights
That dreamy look in your eye
Give me a tropical contact high
      Way down in Kokomo
Aruba, Jamaica, ooh, I wanna take you to
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
      Key Largo, Montego
Baby, why don’t we go? (Ooh, I wanna take you down to Kokomo)
      We’ll get there fast
And then we’ll take it slow
      That’s where we wanna go
      Way down in Kokomo
Port au Prince, I wanna catch a glimpse
Everybody knows a little place like Kokomo
Now if you wanna go to get away from it all
      Go down to Kokomo
Aruba, Jamaica, ooh, I wanna take you to
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
      Key Largo, Montego
Baby, why don’t we go? (Ooh, I wanna take you down to Kokomo)
      We’ll get there fast
And then we’ll take it slow
      That’s where we wanna go
      Way down in Kokomo
Aruba, Jamaica, ooh, I wanna take you to
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
      Key Largo, Montego

      NATIONAL BARCODE DAY

National Barcode Day on June 26 commemorates more than 40 years of efficiency and accuracy that began on June 26, 1974, when a clerk scanned a 10-pack of Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit gum at a Marsh supermarket in Troy, OH. On that day, the barcode system invented by George Lauer, an IBM engineer, began to change the world.

Since then, barcodes have been revolutionizing industries all over the world. Barcodes, also known as UPC, 1 Dimensional (1D) codes, contain data that help businesses and organizations do their jobs more easily. A more modern version of the barcode is called a QR code, or a 2 dimensional (2D) code. The QR code contains even more data than the 1D code.

Barcodes contain a wealth of information, including pricing, product, dates, manufacturer, and shipping. They are ideal for tracking inventory and sales, but they do so much more than that. Almost every industry uses barcodes, and they likely make your life easier without you even knowing it. Where can you find barcodes besides retail products?

VINs – Tracking a car’s history became easier when a barcode was added to the VIN.
Libraries – Barcodes track books, videos, periodicals, resources in and out of the library.
Logistics – Every major shipper uses barcodes to track shipments and deliver your orders.
Healthcare – Barcodes help keep patient care more streamlined and records at the provider’s fingertips.
Agriculture – Farmers use barcodes to track harvests and livestock.
Imagine how different our lives would be without these unobtrusive black and white bars and that satisfying beep every time we scan a product, delivery, or file. It is certainly a technology that will be around for a long time, simplifying our lives. That’s another reason to celebrate National Barcode Day!

      NATIONAL CHOCOLATE PUDDING DAY

Each year on June 26, National Chocolate Pudding Day gets us all excited for a serving of this creamy dessert. Children and adults alike love chocolate pudding and have done so for generations. Usually eaten as a snack or dessert, chocolate pudding is also used as a filling for chocolate crรจme pie.

Chocolate pudding is usually made with milk and sugar, flavored with chocolate and vanilla then thickened with flour or cornstarch. However, some recipes do use eggs when making the pudding. Historically, chocolate pudding is a variation of chocolate custard, using starch as a thickener instead of eggs. The 1903 edition of Mary Harris Frazerโ€™s Kentucky Receipt Book and the 1918 edition of Fannie Farmerโ€™s Boston Cooking School Cook Book, both printed recipes for the earlier version, using both eggs and flour.

In 1934, General Foods (Jello) introduced a chocolate pudding mix as โ€œWalter Bakerโ€™s Dessert.โ€ However, in 1936, they renamed it “Pickle’s Pudding.”

Chocolate pudding can be purchased ready-made and sold in grocery stores, convenience stores, and gas stations. The popular brands include Jell-O by the Kraft Foods Corporation and Snack Pack by Huntโ€™s.

      NATIONAL COCONUT DAY

Summer starts in earnest on June 26 when National Coconut Day arrives! The coconut offers sweet support for our bodies in several ways.

Coconut oil alone falls into the superfood category due to its medium-chain triglyceride (MCTs) content and all that they seem to do. Whether supporting a weight loss program, moisturizing skin, and hair or metabolizing into energy, coconut oil plays a significant role in your body.

We use the whole coconut in many different forms for our bodies and everyday cooking. From shredded coconut to milk, cream, water, and oil, each provides essential nutrients and flavor. Its anti-viral and anti-microbial properties are notable as well.

Coconut is rich in fiber, Vitamin B6, iron, and minerals like magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, and zinc. The oil from coconut moisturizes our skin and also helps keep our skin clear and hair silky, too.

Of course, in the kitchen, we love coconut! Beyond baked goods, coconut infuses sweet flavor to our cooking, and because the MCTs in coconut oil doesn’t absorb in the body as fat, it is an ideal alternative to other oils and fats.

The flavor of coconut oil makes the best air-popped popcorn. Add coconut milk to your curry recipe and win rave reviews! Those who are lactose intolerant and craving ice cream know that coconut milk also makes an excellent substitute for creamy homemade ice cream. And of course, it’s not summer without a piรฑa colada!

Beyond the fruit and water of the coconut that we consume as food, consumers also use the husk and shells as a potting medium, carbon filtration, charcoal, bio-fuel, and even organic cat litter. Another use for the husks is the production of coir, which manufacturers use in making mattresses, doormats, and more.

      NATIONAL PARCHMENT DAY

National Parchment Day falls on the Last Wednesday in June and brings innovation and convenience to the kitchen. While adding convenience, parchment infuses flavor, locks in moisture, and preserves vital nutrients.

Parchment has also long been a part of the traditional French kitchen, but also widely used across the world. Parchment is a versatile kitchen “tool” that is a must have for anyone who loves to create delicious things. Not only is it easily transitioned from skillet to oven, but also helps with transition to the table. Plus, it has the ability to be elegant and useful makes it one of the more effective tools in the kitchen.

Good Afternoon on the Gulf Coast of Florida. I will be back later to post.
I am losing power and internet off and on and it’s a PITA. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Žโœจ

I can’t wait until you find another rehab for your husband and then he comes home.

Oodie let me know how you are doing?

      @sheba2011

I am home today with one of those headaches and a swollen jaw both inside and out due to sulfites. This does not help the healing process from the oral surgery last week. Trying to figure out the culprit this time. I am feeling a bit better. At least the headache is gone. The swelling will take 24 hours or less when the meds take.

There was no rain today and I suspect we will have something tomorrow. I’m taking advantage of the time away from the rehab to catch up on filing some of the paperwork that is piled high on the desk. Eventually, the second bedroom will house office supplies and a new desktop that is still in the box. I made a much needed stop last week at the dollar and a quarter store++ and was amazed at all the new things they have. Tons of plastic with covers to help with the declutter of paperwork, etc. etc.. The Origami will certainly come in handy for those container boxes which will be labeled. I hate when I cannot find things. Takes time away from other things that also need to be done.

There is a neighbor here who is a Physical Therapist and has offered to help. He is a snowbird and will probably return sometime in October. Meanwhile, I am looking on my own. I have also contacted our health care and they will be sending me a list. I cannot wait to bring hubby home. There are 4 patients in another part of the rehab that have covid. I have made it known that they should not be in bed all day. But if that’s impossible they need to keep the patient moving their arms and legs and to be in an upright position to prevent pneumonia. I pray that they will be OK.. I will bring some masks for hubby just to be on the safe side.

So sorry abut the relative who passed away. And your nephew who is just really starting his life to have someone hit him and take off. Hopefully, there is some type of footage from the area that can help identify the driver and the vehicle. My prayers to you and to your family for a complete and speedy recovery.

But then again, I am avoiding any hikes. Tomorrow I will start again. If it’s too hot then I will get a 2 week gym trial. The gym I am considering is packed and I hear it’ is packed all the time. Ugh. I could go a bit further and try somewhere else so it’s up in the air.

Thank you so much for your post. Rehab at home is something I have been looking at for sometime. I was hoping that the Rehab would have the right people for hubby. But for some reason the PT’s give him a few days and then say he plateaued. However, this is not the case. Though hubby can move around, it seems they would rather work on someone who can up and leave in a few days. Anyway, I want him home where he can get the right support and help along with home cooked meals. I am not only looking at PT at home but also items that will enable him to again be independent. Right now he still cannot stand or walk nor does he know how to use his arms so he can move from bed to chair or commode and back again. There are new things in the market to help both the caretaker and the disabled person with the everyday challenges. So many things that weren’t there yesterday.

Take care. I know it’s hot where you are. Goes for me as well. A/C certainly helps. Hope your mom and sister are having a great time, even if it means staying at home. Poolside sounds nice.

      NATIONAL CATFISH DAY

In the United States, National Catfish Day on June 25 each year to celebrate the value of farm-raised catfish. Dive in with us as we explore some interesting facts you may not have known about catfish.

A diverse group of ray-finned fish, catfish are named for their prominent barbels, which resemble cat whiskers. These nocturnal swimmers don’t have any scales. Their smooth flesh makes it difficult for anglers to clean. In the United States, the most commonly eaten species of catfish are the channel catfish and blue catfish. They are also a good source of Vitamin D.

A favorite dish of many Americans, this fine finned fish can be prepared in many different ways. Traditionally, many catfish lovers coat the fish in cornmeal and fry it. While many people prepare only the filets when cooking fish, when it comes to catfish, others prefer the fish cooked whole. No matter the method, this tender whitefish comes delicately off the bone. Spices complement this freshwater fish, too. However, it is also delicious served with a milder touch. A little lemon and butter go a long way. Those who love it fried will eat the crispy tail right away to savor the crunch!

      GLOBAL BEATLES DAY

June 25 is a day someone may want to hold your hand and ask you to please, please be true because they love you yeah, yeah, yeah. Global Beatles Day or GBD commemorates The Beatles music and their shake-up of the music world.

It’s unlikely you don’t know who the Beatles are, but just in case, they were an English rock band from the 1960s. The rock quartet consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Star.

The Beatles are considered one of the most influential bands of all time. They made their debut in the U.S. and took the country by storm with their unique sound of combining folk, rock, and sometimes trippy musical genre. They have sold over 600 million albums worldwide and is considered to be the highest selling musical group ever.

      NATIONAL STRAWBERRY PARFAIT DAY

National Strawberry Parfait Day on June 25 comes around each year during the perfect time – peak strawberry season. This food holiday offers a terrific opportunity to explore your farmer’s markets for fresh-picked strawberries.

Parfait is French for perfect. The traditional parfait is a dessert of ice cream or frozen custard layered with fruit and whipped cream in a tall stemmed glass. An additional topping of whipped cream garnishes the dessert. Today, we often replace the ice cream with yogurt or pudding and layers of granola. That’s a perfect parfait if anyone is asking.

Strawberries are not only in season during June, but they are also an excellent source of Vitamin C, folic acid, potassium, and fiber. At 55 calories and zero fat per 1 cup, these sweet things hit the spot when snack time is calling! When making parfaits, don’t just reserve them for dessert. If serving them with yogurt and granola, they make a delicious breakfast and snack, too.

      @sheba2011

Last night I left hubby around 10 pm. No one mentioned that we were in the midst of a thunder storm and a deluge of rain. Driving home, I thought it was strange that the street lights weren’t on, yet those eight traffic lights were working perfectly. Got an eerie feeling as I drove up the driveway to our home when it seemed nothing was on. But, thought nothing of it. When I reached the front door I thought it was odd what the overhead light didn’t turn on. When I entered the house, again, thought I had forgotten to leave the light on in the dining area. Yet, when I tried the switch, it was in the ON position. Checking the kitchen no stove light or one for the overhead microwave. Then it dawned on me that we had no power. Went to the guest bathroom where I had 4 battery operated lanterns and took one out of the box. It worked. Rushed to the panel and turned everything off. A/C was off since I do not leave it on when visiting hubby. I had made a stop at Costco and did have things for the frig. Decided to leave everything in the thermo bag with the two heavy duty ice paks. There was no notice of the event on my cell. Suffice to say, it was another two hours before we had lights. What a feeling when those lights came on and I could relax knowing it was not my fault.

Hubby has another new roommate. Like, you, I do miss the first roommate that helped hubby. I hope he is OK. He found a place to stay about a mile from the rehab. There was a sigh of relief when he left since this was his first stop after spending over 30 yrs. in prison. But, I did not feel unsafe. He had a good side and would tell me when things weren’t right.

Hubby is on board leaving rehab. He doesn’t want to be a burden to me. However, I will bring him home when I have all the i’s dotted and the t’s crossed. He cannot walk at this point or stand on the one good leg. I hope to be working with our health insurance to get things rolling. I also need to look at transportation for the disabled to take him back and forth and to other appointments when necessary. His mind is good. The only drawback is that I will not be able to have someone live-in. The HOA does not permit more than 2 people in the condo even though we have two bedrooms. There have been many meetings dealing with this issue, but nothing has been done to rectify the situation. It seems to go on deaf ears. For now, I am looking at a sling that will enable me to lift hubby from bed to wheelchair or from chair to wheelchair. I am hoping with the right PT we can get him to function on his own again.

      NATIONAL PRALINES DAY

On June 24, National Pralines Day honors a confection made from nuts (whether in whole pieces or ground) and sugar syrup. Pralines may also refer to any chocolate cookie containing the ground powder of nuts.

French sugar industrialist, Marshal du Plessis-Praslin (1598-1675), originally inspired the early pralines. At the Chateau of Vaux-le-Vicomte during the 17th century, du Plessis-Praslin created his first pralines, made with almonds and individually coated in caramelized sugar.

The powder made by grinding up sugar-coated nuts is called pralin. This is an ingredient in many types of cakes, pastries and ice creams. When this powder is mixed with chocolate, it becomes pralinรฉ in French, which gave birth to what is known in French as chocolat pralinรฉ.

The French settlers brought their recipe into Louisiana, an area of the United States where both sugar cane and pecan trees were plentiful. During the 19th century, New Orleans chefs substituted pecans for almonds, added cream to thicken the confection, and thus creating what is known throughout the Southern United States as the praline.

3 Pralines from Around the World

Belgian Pralines โ€“ contain a hard chocolate shell with a softer, sometimes liquid, filling.
French Pralines โ€“ a combination of almonds and caramelized sugar.
American Pralines โ€“ contain milk or cream and are softer and creamier, resembling fudge.

NATIONAL TAKE BACK THE LUNCH BREAK DAY

On June 24 each year, North American workers celebrate National Take Back the Lunch Break Day to promote worker happiness and productivity.

Thereโ€™s been an increasing trend to take less frequent and shorter lunch breaks, affecting employee morale and well-being. According to Gallup, only one in three employees are engaging at work. Because engagement affects productivity, happiness and job satisfaction, employees and employers across North America need to step up to the plate โ€“ the lunch plate that is!

According to a 2017 study commissioned by Tork, an Essity brand, employees who take lunch breaks are more likely to report being efficient at work and satisfied with their jobs. The survey reveals that nearly 90 percent of employees consider the ability to take a lunch break critical when accepting a new job. However, once they are on the job, the average lunch break is less than 30 minutes for more than half of North American workers โ€“ barely enough time to purchase a meal, let alone enjoy it.

That is why Tork created National Take Back the Lunch Break Day to help improve workplace morale, satisfaction, and productivity across North America.

We are hot here and have been for a few days, maybe close to 90 today. I took a hiking break because it’s too hot for me. Lots of exercise here with cleaning, organizing and ironing.

The young person was only 19 just walking outside and someone who appeared to be
out of it or not hit him and kept going. A good person stood near him and directed
traffic until the police and ambulance came.

We are also dealing with a funeral for a beautiful soul in the family.

Be careful out there there are so many evil souls out there that don’t care about
anyone but themselves. Taci he is in critical care and stable condition. The Hospital
did do emergency surgery on him minutes after arriving at the hospital.

      @sheba2011

I am still having some pain and discomfort from the oral surgery last week. Part of the problem is my allergy to sulfites. Guess I am back to reading labels again. Nothing can be taken for granted in this day and age.

I saw hubby Saturday and he was again very feisty. He was more concerned with me than anything else. His roommate went home or to another facility which is something I am thinking about as well. If hubby comes home I will need to have someone in place to help him into the bathroom, etc.. As far as PT goes, I don’t think this facility is helping him, so I have started to look around. I really feel that a place that has a pool could bring him around more. There is one near me that I’m looking into. And of course, reviews do help.

Weather wise, it is similar to yours. However, no rain. Seems to fizzle and the dark clouds become blue again. Right now it is cloudy and when I brought the garbage out this morning, the sun was out and there were just some puffy white clouds with the sky being as blue as the sea. I am now going to head to a shower and then on to Costco for gas and maybe find something soft to eat with hubby. I know you are busy and so glad you posted. Here’s a hug from me to you (). I still am getting those awful sinus headaches. Just hope it goes away during my shower. I don’t like leaving hubby and he knows that when I don’t show it’s because I’m not up to par. I will pick up some ice cream on the way to rehab for both of us. Culver’s comes to mind.

I am so happy to read you are thinking of moving your husband. He’s been there too long with all these different roommates that come and go. I may be wrong but I have a feeling his mental state will soar if he comes home and he will try even harder to maneuver around with a PT person coming to the house. And if you do move him to another facility with a pool, make sure it is a true rehabilitation center. Unless it’s a very serious accident, most people are in rehab only for a few weeks and sent home with assistance. I wish you prayers and good luck.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿคž

Hello, thanks for the recent message. It had been so long since I posted, I was afraid I had forgotten how!!
We are hoping we will be able to go to Ruidoso in a couple of weeks but all depends on if utilities, water etc are safe and available in our area. Today, full time residents are able to return but need to bring a weeks worth of groceries and water. I have a friend that went back but she still had a home to go back to.
Our Mabel is a big girl alright, 83 pounds! She is a sweet natured gentle giant but can be a tad stubborn at times. She is never far from my side and the perfect movie companion.
I donโ€™t know her story as to how she ended up at the rescue but the Lady who runs this rescue said one day she just walked up to the facility. Sounds like she was dumped as the facility is in a rural area. No one ever came for her so she was placed on website and the rest is history. We lost our sweet girl Jewel about 2 years ago, so it was awhile before we adopted Mabel in Dec 2023.
The vet estimates her age between 5 and 6 years old. We didnโ€™t want a puppy but she still makes us laugh like one with her goofiness.
Thank you for listening to my ramblings about Mabel. Iโ€™ve been hugging her a lot lately.
Take care, Flower, Little D and Mabel

      @71flowerchild

Your Mabel sounds very similar to the way I got my Jake. I was working at the shelter and he was picked up as a stray so no one knew anything about him. It was estimated he was about seven years old and he needed an operation on his toe. After that was done and healed (about two months) as you said, the rest was history. Took him home for a shelter break and he never left my house. Had dogs my entire life but he definitely loved me the most. I think he truly appreciated all that I did for him to make his remaining years easy and loving. Still think of him every single day. Sorry about your Jewel. In my opinion, that’s one thing God got wrong, not giving dogs a longer life.๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿถ

Glad you are back, still saying prayers for you and the town of Ruidoso.๐Ÿ™

Want to say hello and hope you are better this afternoon.
So sorry to hear about your nephew. Couldnโ€™t believe what happenedโ€ฆ..and that person didnโ€™t even stop to help. Iโ€™ve added him to my prayer list. Hope he is improving each day.
My jewelry store friend was able to return last night to her home and shop-(they are next door to each other). She is in a part of town that was spared from the 2 fires. She said as soon as they can, she and hubby will go to our place and check on it until we are able to go. Currently, only full time residents are allowed in.
I loved seeing the picture of Mabel. She has the St. Bernard face/ head and the rest is white like a Great Pyrenees. Her personality is more St Bernard than Pyr. Little D basically ignores her but she loves him and is so gentle around him.
Thanks for the songโ€ฆ.you remember itโ€™s one of my favorites. Perfect song for that gorgeous moon we had.
      Iโ€™ll keep in touch. โค๏ธ

      Paul Williams Lyrics
      “Nice To Be Around”

Hello such a simple way to start a love affair
Should I jump right in and say how much I care
Would you take me for a mad man or a simple hearted clown
Hello with affection from a sentimental fool
To a little girl who’s broken of every rule
One who brings me up when all the others seem to let me down
One whose nice to be around

Should I say that it’s a blue world without you
Nice words I remember from an old love song
But all wrong, ’cause I never called it love before
This feeling’s new – this came with you

And I know that the nicest things that never seem to last
That we’re both a bit embarrassed by our past
But I think there’s something special in the feelings that we’ve found
And you’re nice to be around
And you’re nice to be around

      Shadow Dancing
      Song by Andy Gibb

You got me looking at that heaven in your eyes
      I was chasing your direction
I was telling you no lies
      And I was loving you
When the words are said, baby, I lose my head
And in a world of people, there’s only you and I
There ain’t nothing come between us in the end
How can I hold you when you ain’t even mine
Only you can see me through
I leave it up to you
Do it light, taking me through the night
Shadow dancing, baby you do it right
Give me more, drag me across the floor
Shadow dancing, all this and nothing more
All that I need is just one moment in your arms
      I was chasing your affection
I was doing you no harm
      And I was loving you
Make it shine, make it rain, baby I know my way
I need that sweet sensation of living in your love
I can’t breath when you’re away, it pulls me down
You are the question and the answer am I
Only you can see me through
I leave it up to you
Do it light, taking me through the night
Shadow dancing, baby you do it right
Give me more, drag me across the floor
Shadow dancing, all this and nothing more
And in this world of people there’s only you and I
There ain’t nothing come between us in the end
Ah, can I hold you when you ain’t even mine
Only you can see me through
I leave it up to you
Do it light, taking me through the night
Shadow dancing, baby you do it right
Give me more, drag me across the floor
Shadow dancing, all this and nothing more
Do it light, taking me through the night
Shadow dancing, baby you do it right
Give me more, drag me across the floor
Shadow dancing, all this and nothing more
Do it light, taking me through the night
Shadow dancing, baby you do it right
Give me more, drag me across the floor
Shadow dancing, all this and nothing more

      NATIONAL ONION RINGS DAY

National Onion Rings Day lands on June 22 to recognize the batter-dipped, deep-fried bite of deliciousness that runs rings around other appetizers.

Onions have been around for some time. A recipe called โ€œFried Onions with Parmesan Cheeseโ€ is included in John Mollardโ€™s 1802 cookbook The Art of Cookery Made Easy and Refined. Within the recipe, it suggests cutting onions into 1/2 inch rings, dipping them into a batter made of flour, cream, salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese then deep-frying them in boiling lard. It also recommends serving them with a sauce made of melted butter and mustard.

Some believe that a recipe for French Fried Onions (not claiming to be the originator of the recipe) appeared in the Middletown, NY Daily Times on January 13, 1910.
The Pig Stand restaurant chain, established in Oak Cliff, Texas in the early 1920s, is one of the claimants to the onion rings invention. Another recipe for deep-fried onion rings dipped in milk then dredged in flour appeared in a 1933 Crisco advertisement in The New York Times Magazine. By the 1960s, the A&W restaurant gained official credit with popularizing the onion rings in fast food restaurants.

Many agree onion rings taste best hot from the fryer. Whether you dip them in a sauce or not is up to you. There are plenty to choose from these days, too. Sweet, spicy, salt and vinegar, and everything in between.

      NATIONAL CHOCOLATE ECLAIR DAY

National Chocolate Eclair Day falls on June 22 each year and recognizes a delicious cream-filled pastry covered in smooth chocolate. Pastry. Check. Cream filling. Check. Chocolate. Check. What more could you want in a food holiday? Maybe a cup of coffee to go with it, but other than that, you won’t need anything else.

We all know the French make many delicacies from dough and the eclair is no different. Eclairs are a particular pastry made from a dough called pate a choux that is piped it into an oblong shape using a pastry bag. Once baked, the eclair is light and crispy on the outside and hollow on the inside making it the perfect avenue for transporting creamy vanilla or chocolate creme.

The word eclair comes from the French word, meaning โ€œflash of lightning.โ€ The connection between the word and this French pastry remains unclear. Some people suggest that the รฉclair is so named because it is eaten so quickly. For instance you might say, โ€œYou ate that in a flash!โ€ Another interpretation, however, says that the name came from the glistening of the frosting, which resembles lightning.

Originating during the nineteenth century in France, the eclair was first called pain ร  la Duchesse or โ€œpetite Duchesse.โ€ Food historians believe that French chef Antonin Careme (1784-1833) first developed the eclair.

The 1884 Boston Cooking School Cook Book, by Mrs. D.A. Lincoln, has the first known English-language recipe for eclairs.

In some regions of the United States, Long Johns are marketed under the name eclairs. However, the two are not quite identical. Long Johns are made with donut pastry and typically filled with vanilla pudding or custard. The eclair, on the other hand, requires a little more effort and expense to make.

      INTERNATIONAL BEING YOU DAY

International Being You Day, on June 22, invites you to celebrate beingโ€ฆYOU. Itโ€™s time to ditch the self-judgment and have gratitude for yourself. Today we invite you to explore what it means to truly be YOU beyond the projections of society and the need for perfection. It’s your day to discover and acknowledge the beauty of you and your unique capabilities. Itโ€™s also an invitation to celebrate everyoneโ€™s differences.

What if you could ditch the judgment and have gratitude for yourself just for a day? What if you could start going from having a life run on autopilot to one of curiosity, joy, gratitude and presence? On International Being You Day, start the day by celebrating YOU and embrace the differences of everyone around you.

      3 Ways to Celebrate YOU

Empowering you to know that your dreams of what is possible are way more valuable than fitting in.
Inviting people to embrace their unique capacities and get away from comparison and judgment as the deciding factors for happiness.
Inspiring people to use lightness, joy, and laughter as their guide to who they can choose to be, instead of all they should and should notโ€™s of our age, race, cultures, and families.
