Hello Peeps time for a new Conversation Thread. This is number 25 out of the
series. I created and started this thread 10 years ago.

I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. โœจ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. ๐ŸŒนโœจ๐Ÿ˜Ž

My dad isn’t just a father; he’s an extraordinary soul who illuminated my world with love and laughter. In the innocence of childhood, he allowed me to express myself, fostering an environment where creativity thrived. These cherished memories have become a testament to his exceptional parenting.

My father’s memory is a blessing. ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ’•I love Dad. ๐Ÿ’•

      NATIONAL TURKEY LOVERS’ DAY

National Turkey Lovers’ Day on the third Sunday in June asks us to make room for turkey on the menu this summer. Turkey adds to the fast and fresh convenience for consumers who love the option for its healthy lean protein and tasty flavor.

With turkey being enjoyed more often in the spring and summer than ever before, it is the established year-round meat because of its versatility. Ground turkey, turkey tenderloin, turkey sausage, and turkey bacon are some of the more popular ways to enjoy this delicious meat. Summertime grilling includes turkey burgers, turkey drumsticks, turkey breast, and turkey hot dogs. Delis offer turkey sandwiches as a popular lunch choice, too.

      NATIONAL FUDGE DAY

National Fudge Day comes around each year on June 16, allowing you to indulge in your favorite flavor of this delicious confectionery. Some of the most familiar fudge flavors are chocolate, chocolate nut, peanut butter, maple, and maple nut.

Fudge lends itself to experimentation when it comes to flavors. Blending favorites or even a moment of inspiration will create a new delicious kind of fudge. Adding bits of candy, nuts, or sprinkles on National Fudge Day can bring just the right celebratory burst of excitement to an old favorite.

In the late 19th century, some shops on Mackinac Island, Michigan, began to produce similar products as the Vassar College fudge and sold it to summer vacationers. Fudge is still made in some of the original shops located on the famous island.

      FATHER’S DAY

Father’s Day falls on the third Sunday in June to honor the role fathers play in the family structure and society. This day recognizes not just fathers, but the father figures in our lives. These are the men we look up to who set solid examples for us and guide us throughout our lives.

Many families dedicate the day to their fathers and grandfathers. Whether they are first-time fathers just learning to change a diaper, or experienced fathers offering sage advice, the day celebrates everything a father is. Fathers from family to family play a variety of roles. They may be a caregiver, provider, or advisor. Some fathers are the strong, silent types. And yet others tell us stories for days. Fathers teach, guiding small hands as they hammer a nail or sail a kite.

We only look up to our fathers for so long. At some point, we begin to see things a little differently. But that’s not when we stop looking up to them. It’s at that point, we turn and look forward together.

      My Way
      Song by Frank Sinatra

And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I’ll say it clear
I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain
      I’ve lived a life that’s full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
      I did it my way
      Regrets, I’ve had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
      I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
      I did it my way
Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all, and I stood tall
      And did it my way
I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried
I’ve had my fill, my share of losing
      And now, as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh, no, oh, no, not me
      I did it my way
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
      And did it my way
      Yes, it was my way

      Livinโ€™ on a Prayer
      Song by Bon Jovi

Once upon a time, not so long ago
Tommy used to work on the docks, union’s been on strike
He’s down on his luck, it’s tough, so tough
Gina works the diner all day, working for her man
She brings home her pay, for love, mmm, for love
She says, “We’ve gotta hold on to what we’ve got
It doesn’t make a difference if we make it or not
We’ve got each other and that’s a lot for love
      We’ll give it a shot”
      Whoa, we’re half way there
Whoa oh, livin’ on a prayer
Take my hand, we’ll make it, I swear
Whoa oh, livin’ on a prayer
Tommy’s got his six string in hock, now he’s holding in
When he used to make it talk so tough, ooh, it’s tough
      Gina dreams of running away
When she cries in the night, Tommy whispers
      “Baby, it’s okay, someday”
We’ve gotta hold on to what we’ve got
It doesn’t make a difference if we make it or not
We’ve got each other and that’s a lot for love
      We’ll give it a shot
      Whoa, we’re half way there
Whoa oh, livin’ on a prayer
Take my hand, we’ll make it I swear
Whoa oh, livin’ on a prayer
      Livin’ on a prayer
Oh, we’ve gotta hold on, ready or not
You live for the fight when that’s all that you’ve got
      Whoa, we’re half way there
Whoa oh, livin’ on a prayer
Take my hand and we’ll make it, I swear
Whoa oh, livin’ on a prayer
      Whoa, we’re half way there
Whoa oh, livin’ on a prayer
Take my hand and we’ll make it, I swear
Whoa oh, livin’ on a prayer
      Whoa, we’re half way there
Whoa oh, livin’ on a prayer
Take my hand and we’ll make it, I swear
      Whoa oh

      @sheba2011

What lovely gifs to look at and wonder if I could step in and be part of that scene.

I do know your feeling on visiting the gravesite. It tends to pull you a part and for a few minutes punches a hole in your heart. I wish I could visit my parents as well. Maybe someday. Where my parents are buried used to be a beautiful place with flowers and trees. Today it is in the middle of gunfire, killings, etc.. The world has changed and some things are not easy to come by.

I left early to see my hubby today. Packed my dinner and quite a few tidbits for him as well. The air was hot, humid, with temps in the 90s and I have no idea on the humidity. Suffice to say, the air quality wasn’t good.

The traffic on Sundays is light, but took me longer because I missed all 8 traffic lights and had to wait at the “round about” to make my right hand turn. Hubby was in bed when I arrived. He looked like he had been through the mill. He was not coherent. He had no idea where he was. The aid came in and had me follow him into the hallway. There I was told that when he came on at 3:30 pm he found hubby’s area emptied. He searched high and low and finally found him outside with no water and quite dehydrated. He didn’t speak. He was almost past out. He said as he wheeled hubby towards his room he called for help from the other aids and the on duty nurse. They got him into bed. Stripped him and immediately started hydrating him along with washing him down (there are no showers on Sundays). They actually washed the mattress and changed the linens while he was in bed. About an hour before I left, he started coming around and began joking with everyone. Tomorrow I will be reporting this incident to the health department and our health insurance and to the Elderly Council here in Florida. I will also make it known to the Administrator of the Rehab and to the Head Nurse. I’m not sure if one of the Aids took him outside or if he did this on his own. He was in the wheelchair when this occurred. Hubby loves the summer and the warm or rather hot days. It doesn’t really bother him. But, in this exceptional high heat and humidity he should not have stayed out more than 5 or 10 minutes. No one bothered to check until the aid came in for the second shift. Tomorrow, the aid will bring hubby to the TV room. Both of us will strip the bed and I will be cleaning the entire bed and frame with “Clean Boss” as well as both sides of the mattress. I am absolutely livid…..

      @oodiebom,

Good day on the Gulf Coast of Florida I read your post this morning and it took me a minute
to compose myself as I read it.

I cannot believe as hot as it is all over they would leave your husband out in this kind of
weather. I would be livid too. I thought someone was suppose to be with a patient when
they are out especially in a wheel chair.

I hope you report everything to the right person or place. There is no excuse for this.

I am so glad you visit when you do imagine if you had not came at that time.

This is wrong on so many levels. I know they get high dollar for his care and I feel they
should do their job. Good for you bringing the Clean Boss. I would like to know how
this turns out Oodie and what the higher ups are saying.

      Oodiebom keep your cool. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

      Forever Young
      Song by Rod Stewart

May the good Lord be with you
      Down every road you roam
      And may sunshine and happiness
Surround you when you’re far from home
And may you grow to be proud
      Dignified and true
      And do unto others
As you’d have done to you
      Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you’ll always stay
      Forever young, forever young
      Forever young, forever young
May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
      Build a stairway to Heaven
With a prince or a vagabond
And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you will remain
      Forever young, forever young
      Forever young, forever young
      Forever young, forever young
      Yeah
And when you finally fly away
I’ll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
      No one can ever tell
      But whatever road you choose
I’m right behind you, win or lose
      Forever young, forever young
      Forever young, forever young
      Forever young, forever young
      For-forever young, forever young

      WORLD MARTINI DAY
World Martini Day falls on the third Saturday in June each year. Around the world martini lover’s are shaking up their gin to enjoy this unique beverage with a twist. Join us as we learn a few facts about the martini and help you understand why we raise a glass to this summertime beverage holiday.

The Martini has grown to become one of the best-known mixed drinks for adults. A traditional or perfect Martini is made with equal parts gin and vermouth. For anyone who has never had a Martini, we have a list of terms to help get you started.

      Martini Lingo
Dirty – This Martini includes olive brine or juice from the olive jar.
Dry – The vermouth is decreased significantly in the Martini, and gin becomes the primary spirit. Extra dry tips the ratio even further.
Gibson – Instead of an olive, bartenders garnish the Martini with a pickled onion.
Shaken vs. Stirred – Most bartenders will tell you that the better Martini is stirred. Shaken Martinis tend to be inferior due to a couple of reasons – ice chips water down the drink, and shaking the Martini adds air to the cocktail. A stirred Martini results in a smoother, fuller experience.
Straight Up – This Martini may be either shaken or stirred, but it is strained and served without ice – the opposite of a Martini on the rocks.
Smoky or Burnt – Scotch whisky replaces the vermouth in this Martini. A twist of lemon garnishes the glass.
Wet – Where the dry Martini has less vermouth, this one has more.
With a Twist – The bartender adds a thin strip of citrus peel to the Martini as a garnish or in the drink.

James Bond, the fictional spy, sometimes asked for his vodka Martinis to be “shaken, not stirred.”

When the James Bond movies debuted in the late 1960s, the popularity of the Martini increased. In the later decades, clear spirits like vodka overtook aged spirits like bourbon in market share. However, in recent decades, a balancing act seems to be taking place.

Dirty martini โ€“ Martini with a splash of olive brine or olive juice and is typically garnished with an olive.

Over the years, the traditional Martini inspired a variety of other cocktails such as the Cosmopolitan, chocolatini, or appletini.

      NATIONAL SMILE POWER DAY

On June 15 we smile on National Smile Power Day in hopes our smile makes another person smile who makes another person smile.

When you smile at someone, you are telling them that they are valued and worth the smile that you just gave them. Smiles are morale boosters and confidence builders. On National Smile Power Day, show your power by sharing a smile with everyone you meet.

From the good morning greeting and the first “How may I help you?” present yourself with a smile. No matter where you are employed, job seeking, retired, or looking for new horizons starting the day with a smile is certainly more empowering than a pout or grump. Starting with a smile first is easier than trying to get there later in the day.

Research has proven that smiling really does increase attractiveness and likability among humans. Smiling creates greater trust and increased interpersonal cooperation. Smiling at someone can help them to relax and relieve their stress while at the same time, it will make you feel at ease, too. Even if you do not feel like it, smiling will lift your mood and can make you a happier person.

      HSN IMAN

      Iman, the Icon
The supermodel, businesswoman, and activist in conversation with Precious Lee, Aurora James, and Keke Palmer.

What makes an icon? Is it a lengthy resumรฉ filled with achievements and awards? Iman has that. Known first as a supermodel, she served for more than a decade as muse for designers including Thierry Mugler, Donna Karan, Yves Saint Laurent, and more; sheโ€™s authored a memoir and a beauty manual; acted in more than 20 projects; in 2021, she launched her first fragrance, Love Memoir, which is available on HSN, as is her clothing line, Global Chic.

Or is it that icon status achieved through volume of fans and followers? Iman has countless imitators (โ€œIt really touches your heart,โ€ Iman says when asked by Keke Palmer what itโ€™s like to see herself in other performers. โ€œI have a lot of guys say, โ€˜I learned how to walk from youโ€™โ€). She also has nearly 1 million followers on Instagram, her account peppered with aphorisms ranging from the poignant (โ€œDo not exchange your dignity for popularityโ€) to the playful (โ€œNormalize bringing dogs as a plus oneโ€), delivered as though royal decree in color-blocked, all-caps text.

No, at its heart, being an icon is about impact. Iman is the Global Advocate for humanitarian organization CARE, which works to eradicate poverty and empower women and girls. She is an activist, using her fame and platform to bring attention to causes that matter to her, like the hardships refugees face or the lack of equality in the beauty and fashion space. She does this both by actively speaking out and by simply standing up for herself. But perhaps her most influential accomplishment is that she has helped women see themselvesโ€”in the pages of magazines and, through her groundbreaking beauty company, Iman Cosmetics, on store shelves.

As Iman recounted for each of our interviewers for this cover story, the idea for Iman Cosmeticsโ€”the first makeup collection specifically for all โ€œwomen with skin of colorโ€โ€”was sparked during her very first modeling job, a photoshoot for Vogue in 1976: When she arrived on set, the makeup artist asked her if she brought her own foundation; when Iman said no, the makeup artist mixed-and-matched what shades he had. โ€œI looked, literally, gray,โ€ Iman recalls today. โ€œI still say the gods of beauty were looking after me, because the photographs were black and whiteโ€”that hides all sins.โ€ Otherwise, she believes, her career would have been short-lived. “My image is my currency, so I better have control of that,” she remembers thinking. Iman went shopping, buying any product that had a pigment close to her skin tone. She combined them herself and took Polaroids to see how the makeup would translate on film. From then on, she brought that self-made batch to every gig.

She launched her company 30 years ago with 16 foundation shades. โ€œThe idea was, at that time, ahead of its time,โ€ she says. Blazing a trail is, for an icon like Iman, though, standard operating procedure. Here, she looks back on the influence sheโ€™s had and ahead to what change she might still impart through conversations with three womenโ€”model Precious Lee; designer and Fifteen Precent pledge founder Aurora James; and actress and television host Keke Palmerโ€”who are, in their own ways, carrying her torch.

      Jesus to a Child
      Song by George Michael

      Kindness in your eyes
I guess you heard me cry
You smiled at me like Jesus to a child
      I’m blessed I know
      Heaven sent and heaven stole
You smiled at me like Jesus to a child
And what have I learned from all this pain
I thought I never feel the same about anyone or anything again
      But now I know
      When you find a love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights
      When you’ve been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there’s no hope in sight
      Sadness in my eyes
No one guessed or no one tried
You smiled at me like Jesus to a child
      Loveless and cold
With your last breath you saved my soul
You smiled at me like Jesus to a child
And what have I learned from all these tears
I’ve waited for you all those years
Then just when it began he took your love away
      But I still say
      When you find a love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights
      When you’ve been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there’s no hope in sight
So the words you could not say
      I’ll sing them for you
And the love we would have made
      I’ll make it for two
      For every single memory
Has become a part of me
You will always be my love
Well I’ve been loved so I know just what love is
And the lover that I kissed is always by my side
Oh, the lover I still miss was Jesus to a child

      Carole King
      “Jazzman”

Lift me, won’t you lift me above the old routine
Make it nice, play it clean, Jazzman

      When the Jazzman’s testifyin’
      A faithless man believes
He can sing you into paradise
Or bring you to your knees
It’s a gospel kind of feelin’
      A touch of Georgia slide
      A song of pure revival
      And a style that’s sanctified

      Jazzman, take my blues away
Make my pain the same as yours
      With every change you play
      Jazzman, oh, Jazzman

      When the Jazzman’s signifyin’
And the band is windin’ low
It’s the late night side of morning
In the darkness of his soul
He can fill a room with sadness
As he fills his horn with tears
He can cry like a fallen angel
      When risin’ time is near

      Jazzman, take my blues away
Make my pain the same as yours
      With every change you play

Oh, lift me, won’t you lift me with every turnaround
Play it sweetly, take me down, oh, Jazzman

      NATIONAL STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE DAY

National Strawberry Shortcake Day on June 14 lands at the peak of strawberry season. While we are able to get strawberries all year long now, the best strawberries are those picked from April to June. These bright red berries during this time are sweeter and more flavorful. By adding them to a shortcake biscuit or a sponge cake, strawberry shortcake is an easy and refreshing summertime dessert!

Strawberry shortcake can be found as far back as 1588 in England. However, it wasn’t until the 1800s strawberry shortcake made its way to the U.S. Eliza Leslie of Philadelphia receives credit for the first recipe for strawberry shortcake in her cookbook The Lady’s Receipt-Book. Though she referred to them as “strawberry cakes,” her recipe was used to popularize this delicious dessert in homes.

By the late 1850s, Americans began adding a strawberry sauce with slices of fresh strawberries to the top of their shortcakes. The dessert was a June favorite because many people would celebrate their strawberry harvest with strawberry shortcake parties. This tradition is still celebrated across the country today.

Today, strawberries are sliced, mixed with sugar then allowed to sit for about an hour until they have surrendered plenty of their juices. The shortcakes are then split, and the bottom is covered with a layer of the strawberries, juice and whipped cream. The top is then put back on, and more strawberries, juice and whipped cream are added to finish it off.

      NATIONAL CUCUMBER DAY

Today is June 14 and National Cucumber Day at National Day Calendar and we are enjoying fresh cucumbers all day long! Join us as we crunch on this crisp summer favorite and enjoy the fruits of summer.

You can almost taste the crisp, watery goodness of a cucumber during the summer months. With fresh fruits and vegetables at our fingertips, we feel very little guilt indulging in this salad favorite. Whether we grow them in our garden or purchase them at a local farmers market, we love the freshness a cucumber adds to our diets.

Most people think cucumbers are a vegetable. In fact, they are actually a fruit in the watermelon family Cucurbitaceae. Cucumbers are normally a long and have a cylindrical shape, and are grown in different sizes. There are also around 100 different types of cucumbers around the world.

      ARMY BIRTHDAY

Every year on June 14 we celebrate the birthday of the United States Army. Let’s tip our hats and raise a glass to the military branch that was born in 1775.

Formed from amateur troops of volunteer soldiers defending colonies against British tyranny, the oldest military force in the United States began before the U.S. formally existed. Their forces consisted of mostly inexperienced militiamen commanded by independent colonial armies. According to battlefields.org, there were never more than 48,000 Continental soldiers at one time. Today, the United States Army consists of over 1 million active-duty service members and an additional 800,000 Army National Guard and Reserve members.

The enduring history of the U.S. Army means they have been integral to many of the United State’s military, peace-keeping and humanitarian efforts. During the Army’s Birthday, these and many advancements will be recognized through events and ceremonies.

      NATIONAL MOVIE NIGHT
Pop some popcorn, grab a blanket and your favorite buddy, put away the cell phones and tablets, and then queue up a string of movies for a fun night of entertainment. National Movie Night on the second Friday in June encourages us to start (or restart) a tradition of movie nights with friends and family.

Movies have been bringing people together for over 100 years. The stars, the stories entertain us, connect us and help us create memories. As technology evolves, so does how we enjoy our movie nights. From the theater to reel-to-reel home movies, the VCR, DVD, and streaming, we’ve been enjoying movies on big and small screens. Drive-in movies invited us to enjoy films from the comfort of our cars. Today, our video library is as large as we want it to be thanks to streaming services. We can even enjoy movies in our own backyards projected onto screens under the stars.

Can you smell the popcorn popping? Start your tradition with friends and family on National Movie Night with new and classic movies at the theatre or in your homes.

      Hello Sheba,
I know you will be visiting your father’s grave. I will say a prayer for him and my too. My father died in 1970, is buried in Washington, DC.

It’s a warm day here too, we are in the mid nineties and the humidity at 53 makes it feel hotter.
I believe we might get some rain tomorrow.

The bunnies are coming around every day in the late afternoon. I sometimes see them early in the mornings too. Yesterday they enjoyed some cut up mangos.

Here’s wishing your hubby a wonderful father’s day.

      Have a great weekend Sheba ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿšตโ€โ™€๏ธ

too. I am going early for father’s site. I want the flowers to last a bit.

I am so glad you have the bunnies again. I keep an eye out for my three cats. I wish they
would come in two will not and one will. This tabby cat is female and I have known her
all her life since the day the owner brought her home I use to cat sit her and her sister.
My next door neighbor was the original owner and he gave cats to neighbors up the street.
The neighbors have a little girl and she wanted both of them well they favor the gray cat
which is the sister but they let the tabby cat out and about at all hours and weather.
I know she is fixed and has all her vaccines she is does not care for Poppy that is the problem.

I am going to wish you a cool night and maybe some gentle rain. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ’•

As I was getting ready to see hubby and to make a couple of stops, the heavens opened up. First the lightning, then the thunder and after a while, the rain. It continued over an hour and by the time it was over it was too late to see hubby. Actually, it was too late to do the stops I wanted. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a bit different. I am petrified of thunderstorms especially when driving.

Hubby had a good urology appointment and yesterday he mentioned he needed to make another appointment. That appointment is for a year from now. Hopefully, we will be able to change it because we will be North for the spring summer and part of the fall. We shall see.

I will be thinking of you on Sunday. I can sympathize and know how difficult it will be to visit your dad’s grave on Father’s Day. However, you will feel good knowing that he was there and listening to every word you uttered and maybe enjoying a verse or two in song.

      I Believe I Can Fly

I used to think that I could not go on
And life was nothing but an awful song
But now I know the meaning of true love
I’m leaning on the everlasting arms
If I can see it, then I can do it
If I just believe it, there’s nothing to it
      I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
      I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
      I believe I can fly
      I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly (woo)
See I was on the verge of breaking down
Sometimes silence can seem so loud
There are miracles in life I must achieve
But first I know it starts inside of me
If I can see it, then I can be it
If I just believe it, there’s nothing to it
      I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
      Spread wings and fly away
      I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
      I believe I can fly
      I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly (woo!)
Hey, ’cause I believe in you
      Oh
If I can see it (woo!), then I can do it (I can do it)
If I just believe it, there’s nothing to it (hey)
I believe I can fly (woo!)
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
      I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly (I can fly)
I believe I can fly (I can fly)
I believe I can fly (I can fly)
If I just spread my wings (I can fly)
I can fly (I can fly)
I can fly (I can fly)
I can fly (I can fly)
If I just spread my wings (I can fly)
I can fly (I can fly, I can fly)
      Woo (I can fly)
      Hm-mm… fly, fly, fly

      NATIONAL CAREER NURSE ASSISTANTS’ DAY

National Career Nurse Assistants’ Day happens on the first day of National Nursing Assistants’ Week each year. On this day, we recognize all nursing assistants who dedicate their lives to the well-being of others, whether it’s been 5 years or 58 years of service.

Nursing assistants work in hospitals and nursing homes alike, performing everyday living tasks for the elderly, chronically ill, or rehabilitation patients who cannot care for themselves. Of course, nursing assistants require in-depth training to gain the necessary qualifications to cover a wide scope of responsibilities. The American Red Cross, as well as other providers, provide classes to study for nursing assistants. Although states may distribute CNA certification exams, their certification follows a standard set of qualifications created by the government.

Career Nursing Assistants also play a host of roles in the lives of residents in nursing homes, hospitals, and long-term care facilities. Amazingly, they often assist people to remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible. In addition, a CNA provides essential support for patient needs. This includes promoting mental, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being, too.

      NATIONAL SEWING MACHINE DAY

Each year on June 13, National Sewing Machine Day honors an invention that has kept us in stitches for over 150 years. Follow along as we try to stitch together a brief history and some fun facts, too.

Before the invention of the sewing machine, tailors and sewists created clothing by hand, one single stitch at a time. The invention of the sewing machine brought about revolutionary change. Not only did it boost an entire industry, but it also changed the way we viewed the garments we wore. However, the development of the sewing machine took time.

Skilled cabinet-maker and English inventor, Thomas Saint, received the first patent for a design of a sewing machine in 1790. He intended his design to sew on leather and canvas. However, he never advertised it and no evidence of the design, other than his drawings, could be found. In 1874, William Newton Wilson found Saint’s drawings in the London Patent Office. With some minor adjustments, Wilson built a working model. The London Science Museum currently owns Wilson’s model. Other sewing machine inventors include:

Walter Hunt invented the first American lockstitch sewing machine in 1832.
John Greenough patented the first sewing machine in the United States in 1842.
In 1851, another inventor, Isaac Singer, developed a sewing machine model that would endure and also thrust him into court with Elias Howe over patent infringement.
Industrial use of the sewing machine reduced the burden placed upon housewives, moving clothing production from them and seamstresses to large-scale factories. This also resulted in a decrease in production time which caused the price of clothing to drop considerably.

Today, many people are again becoming interested in the art of sewing and making their own clothing. Crafts fairs and flea markets are filled with booths full of beautiful sewing machine-made clothes and craft items. Quilters across America are also known as sewing machine experts!

      NATIONAL GOLF CART DAY
On June 13, we celebrate National Golf Cart Day as a day that pays tribute to the evolution of the golf cart. This day is for everyone who loves feeling the breeze in their hair on and off the golf course. Let’s go for a quick ride through the history of the golf cart and learn some fun facts along the way!

A golf cart is a small, motorized vehicle originally crafted to carry golfers and their clubs around a golf course. Its history is fascinating, remaining a key tradition of the sport. Today, golfers and non-golfers alike enjoy the flexibility and versatility of these vehicles to carry oneself around a golf course, run errands and to even visit their friends around the neighborhood. Officially known as a golf cart, these vehicles have given people all over the world more GO in their days.

but the Dolan brothers were the ones who really cracked the code on building a golf car efficiently at a fleet scale where it became more than a novelty. A golf course may have had one or two before, but now they could buy a fleet of golf cars that every golfer could go out and use on the course.โ€

Hello Sheba, I hope you are feeling better today.
Yesterday I got to most pleasant suprise. I saw one of the baby bunnies, (now grown somewhat but not full grown) run across our yard in front of the patio. Then another one, and another, four of them running all over, they were chasing each other and playing with one another. That was surprising to me. I don’t know if they were happy because of the rain, or just being little bunnies. But this is the first, bunnies usually come to eat and go back into the woods. They were running around the house from the back to the front yard. And then they stayed in the front yard playing, running under the cars parked in driveway until late evening as the Sun was going down. It was such a treat to see all four playing around.
It’s been partly Sunny with fluffy clouds against a blue and gray sky. With some luck, we might get some showers later this afternoon keeping my fingers crossed.

      Take care Sheba ๐ŸŒน

Oz is very warm already we are well into the 80’s and the A/C is on.

Good afternoon. The lake is absolutely beautiful. Finally, it looks like it is back to normal. Can no longer see the sod or whatever is swimming, The fish and turtles and also the ducks and other birds must be loving it. However, I haven’t seen any loons or herons in days here. The spoonbill has yet to return. Hopefully, the much needed beneficial rain, will bring them back.

I tried to arrive at the rehab prior to hubby’s doctor appointment’. I arrived too late. And when I prodded him he said it was a nothing appointment. I was with him most of the afternoon and left at my usually time which is between 9:00 & 10:00[ pm… It was a quiet afternoon. No rain. Just sunshine. Leaving the rehab, the moon was out. There were no stars due to cloud coverage. The atmosphere was quite humid and for us sinus people, hard to breathe. The A/C in the vehicle never felt so good. Rain did return around 1 am and again around 4 am.. It was sunny most of the morning. However, now that I need to make a stop at USPS and at the Farmer’s Market it is beginning to cloud over again. The plants are happy and the weeds are never ending. Guess you know what I will be doing over the weekend.

I now need to be on my way. Since I will not be returning home from the market, will grab two freezer bags and four ice paks. I will be using the trolley to bring them into the rehab if needed. You cannot imagine how useful that trolley has been. So easy to open and close and the fact that it takes up so little room in the trunk or back area of the driver and passenger seats is a blessing. I surmise that the nurses will be wondering if I brought tons of food for hubby. I’m LOL on this, since he can have only soft foods for now.

I know it’s hot hot where you are. It’s not pleasant, but doable if you stay hydrated. I have been dealing with the temps for over a month now.

The pictures of the flooding in Sarasota is only about 8 miles from our home. It’s an area that overlooks the Sarasota Bay. and what I call hotel alley. The road snakes around the Bay into St. Armands Circle which is famous for one of a kind shops with one of a kind prices. The clothing is something you will not see on many people. It is nothing like shopping on HSN or QVC. There are named designers here that many have knowledge of through the actors and actresses and the Royal Family. I love walking and window shopping in this area. I hope and pray that the flooding isn’t severe in the shops and that the owners and workers were able to move the merchandise to higher ground. So sad to think that many may have lost everything.

OZ may be in for a storm tonight watching the Telly and I hope nothing blows away.

I am going to jump in the shower I can see lightning in my security camera.

Oodie be careful driving in all that rain if you are near it. The weather people say OZ will
be cooler tomorrow I just worry about the animals. I have A/C and I will be fine.

Sheba, hello! We went away for a hike and stayed over. Hubs was so happy that we did this trail because it’s much easier than the usual one It was just too hot to do our usual. He was all smiles.
Still hot though. We have been on this trail before. We were blocked about an hour into it by a herd of cows ( over 10 of them) I didn’t want to cross them in the path. They were pretty tame and moved a little way up to more shade. We took their spot and sat at a picnic table for a while. That was plenty for us for the day.
I know you will be thinking of your Father this Fathers Day. It sounds like you’ll be visiting his grave sight.

      Believe
      Song by Cher

      After love, after love
      After love, after love
      After love, after love
      After love, after love
No matter how hard I try
      You keep pushing me aside
      And I can’t break through
      There’s no talking to you
It’s so sad that you’re leaving
It takes time to believe it
But after all is said and done
You’re gonna be the lonely one, oh
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don’t think you’re strong enough, no
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don’t think you’re strong enough, no
What am I supposed to do?
Sit around and wait for you?
      Well, I can’t do that
      And there’s no turning back
I need time to move on
I need a love to feel strong
‘Cause I’ve had time to think it through
And maybe I’m too good for you, oh
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don’t think you’re strong enough, no
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say
I really don’t think you’re strong enough, no
Well, I know that I’ll get through this
‘Cause I know that I am strong

      I don’t need you anymore
Oh, I don’t need you anymore
No, I don’t need you anymore
Do you believe in life after love?
I can feel something inside me say

      NATIONAL RED ROSE DAY

Each year on June 12, people in the U.S. recognize National Red Rose Day. This beautiful National Day honors the flower that is a symbol of love and romance and the June birth flower, the red rose.

Red roses were used in many early cultures as decorations in wedding ceremonies and wedding attire. It was through this practice the red rose eventually became known as a symbol of love and romance. The tradition of giving red roses as the strongest message of love is still practiced today.

Red roses offer more than the message of love. They are also known for their fragrance. They are also cultivated for perfumes as well as brewing healing teas.

In June, red roses are in bloom in flower gardens across the United States. Their beauty and sweet scent fill the air with happiness. Furthermore, roses come in a wide variety of cultivars. From low-growing shrubs with dainty blossoms to long-stemmed robust plants, roses offer deep scarlets and bright berry-colored reds.

      ENJOY NATIONAL RED ROSE DAY

Do you have a favorite red rose or grow your own? If so, share your favorite red rose photos on social media using the hashtag #NationalRedRoseDay. You might consider giving a red rose to some you care about. Other ways to celebrate include:

Plant a red rose shrub or vine.
Learn more about the types of red roses.
      Visit a rose garden.
Call your favorite florist and order red roses to be sent to a teacher, first responder, or local hero.
Press a red rose to dry it and preserve it for later enjoyment.

      NATIONAL PEANUT BUTTER COOKIE DAY

We are baking up some goodness on June 12 for National Peanut Butter Cookie Day! This delicious food holiday allows cookie lovers and peanut butter lovers to step away from the pies and cakes to indulge in a little peanut butter and cookie therapy.

Alabama’s American agricultural extension educator, George Washington Carver, promoted the peanut extensively. Well-known for his promotions, Carver compiled 105 peanut recipes from various cookbooks, agricultural bulletins, and other sources. In 1916, he created a Research Bulletin called How to Grow the Peanut and 105 Ways of Preparing it for Human Consumption. The bulletin included three recipes calling for crushed or chopped peanuts as one of its ingredients. However, peanut butter cookies were not one of them.

It was in the early 1920s peanut butter began to be listed as an ingredient in cookies.

Incidentally, the peanut butter we know and love today didn’t become commercially available until the 1920s. In 1922, Joseph Rosefield kept the peanut oil from separating from the solids through this process. Afterward, he patented the process of homogenization and sold it to a company that began making a peanut butter called Peter Pan.

No one knows why we press criss-crossed fork marks into our peanut butter cookies before baking. However, homemade peanut butter cookies would just not be the same without a bit of decoration.

ENJOYING NATIONAL PEANUT BUTTER COOKIE DAY

The best way to celebrate this cookie holiday is with some homemade peanut butter cookies, a glass of milk, and a friend. If you don’t feel like baking in the summer heat, visit your favorite baker and grab a dozen. Don’t forget to give them a shout-out and let them know how much you appreciate their mad cookie baking skills! Of course, we even have a recipes for you to try, too.

      @sheba2011

Seems your weather will be coming our way. Starting tomorrow/Friday, it will be hot and humid at least through Monday.๐Ÿ”ฅ

The doc didn’t do any testing other than listening to my lungs and asking questions but seems to think we have bronchitis.๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ We now have an antibiotic and a steroid to take for at least a week. Hope they kick in quick, not a big fan of either but sick of being sick.๐Ÿ˜ฉ BIL home from the hospital, still taking strong meds.

Looks like it will be a good weekend to stay in between the heat and meds. Guess I’ll be drinking iced tea in my martini glass, lol!๐Ÿง‰ Hope you are close to 100%, hot hugs to you and Poppy.๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’–

      @shoelady60,

So sorry to hear you both have bronchitis. Lady my husband went to the ER for bronchitis
he was cough and had a temp they did all kinds of test and put him on the same two
meds. Hubby took a few days off from work and he was fine after two weeks. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Hey hang in there it’s the cough that was the most problem.

I am going to bid you goodnight and take all meds. I will keep you and hubby in my prayers.
I am so glad your BIL is out of the hospital.

I have another day of meds to take and tomorrow will be the hottest this year in Oz
we will have a heat index of over 100 degrees. Shizzle I mean sizzle!!!

Lady in your case you can have all three. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Sweet dreams.
