Conversation 25

  • Sheba2011
  • 05.23.24 12:45 PM

Hello Peeps time for a new Conversation Thread. This is number 25 out of the
series. I created and started this thread 10 years ago.

I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. ✨😎

I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. 🌹✨😎

      Wishing on a Star
      Song by Rose Royce

      I’m wishing on a star
      To follow where you are
      I’m wishing on a dream
      To follow what it means
      I’m wishing on a star
      To follow where you are
      I’m wishing on a dream
      To follow what it means
And I wish on all the rainbows that I see
I wish on all the people who really dream
And I’m wishing on tomorrow, praying it’ll come
And I’m wishing on all the lovin’ we’ve ever done
      I never thought I’d see
A time when you would be
      So far away from home
      So far away from me
Just think of all the moments that we’d spent
I just can’t let you go, for me you were meant
And I didn’t mean to hurt you, but I know
That in the game of love you reap what you sow
I feel it’s time we should make up, baby
I feel it’s time for us to get back together
And make the best of things, oh, baby
When we’re together, whether or never
I feel it’s time we should make up, baby
I feel it’s time for us to get back together
And make the best of things, oh, baby
When we’re together, whether or never
      I’m wishing on a star
      To follow where you are
      I’m wishing on a dream
      To follow what it means
And I wish on all the rainbows that I see
I wish on all the people we’ve ever been
And I’m hopin’ on all the days to come and days to go
And I’m hopin’ on days of lovin’ you so
      I’m wishing on a star
      To follow where you are
I’m wishing on a star, oh
And I wish on all the rainbows that I see
      I’m wishing on a star
      To follow where you are
      I’m wishing on a star
And I wish on all the rainbows that I see
      I’m wishing on a star
      To follow where you are
I’m wishing on a star, oh, ah
      Oh, baby, baby, I wish
I’m wishing on a star, oh
      To follow where you are
I’m wishing on a star, baby
To follow wherever you might be

      Let’s Groove
Song by Earth, Wind & Fire

Let this groove, get you to move,
      it’s alright, alright
let this groove, set in your shoes,
      stand up, alright
Gonna tell you what you can do,
      with my love, alright
Let you know girl you’re looking good
you’re out of sight and alright
Move yourself and glide like a 747
loose yourself in the sky among the clouds in the heavens
Let this groove, light up your fuse, alright
Let this groove, set in your shoes
      stand up, alright
Let me tell you what you can do
      with my love, alright
Gotta let you know girl you’re looking good
you’re out of sight, you’re alright
Tell the DJ to play your favorite tune
      then you know it’s okay
What you found is happiness, now
Let this groove, get you to move, alright
Let this groove set in your shoes
      stand up, alright
You will find peace of mind on the floor
Take a little time, come and see, you and me
make a little sign, I’ll be there after a while
      if you want my love
We can boogie on down, down, down, down
      Let’s groove tonight
      share the spice of life
      baby slice it right
      we’re gonna groove tonight

      NATIONAL FLIP FLOP DAY

Each year on the Wednesday after Memorial Day, National Flip Flop Day encourages us to wear our favorite flip flops and show them off!

Thong style sandals are by no means new to footwear. They’ve been around for thousands of years. However, the term “flip flop” has applied to flat-soled sandals with straps between the first and second toes and across the top of the foot since the 1960s. The term also describes someone who changes their mind or an electronic component.

This day strictly recognizes the footwear that makes a flip-flopping sound as we walk, slapping the back of our feet as we head to the beach or make way for the pool. They come in all shades and colors, beaded, bejeweled, and bedazzled. Some are made of leather and cork.

The lightweight footwear is designed to protect our tender feet from the hot ground and sand. They’re also easy to remove and put on quickly. Many flip flops go from the beach to semi-formal dining in an instant, too!

      NATIONAL PAPERCLIP DAY

National Paperclip Day on May 29th each year celebrates a small but handy invention. Yes, even the paperclip has its own day of honor. The day celebrates the well-known piece of curved wire that keeps our papers together and helps us stay organized.

While many may have claimed earlier invention of the paperclip, according to the Early Office Museum, Samuel B. Fay received the first patent for a “bent wire paper clip” in the United States in 1867. The original intention of Fay’s clip was to attach tickets to fabric. However, U.S. patent 64,088 recognized that paperclips could also hold papers together.

As many as 50 others received patents for similar designs before 1899. One other notable name receiving a patent for his paperclip design in the United States was Erlman J. Wright in 1877. At that time, he advertised his clip for use in fastening newspapers.

The Gem paperclip, which was most likely in production in Britain in the early 1870s by The Gem Manufacturing Company, was never patented. It is the most common type of wire paperclip and is still in use today. It was introduced to the United States around 1892, and in 1904, Cushman & Denison registered a trademark for the “Gem” name in connection with paperclips. Paperclips are still sometimes called Gem clips.

Today, paperclips come in various sizes, shapes, and colors and can make your paperwork look more fun and lively.

Paperclips are not just for holding papers together. There are many other things that you can do with them!

      Replace a zipper tab
      Unclog a spray bottle
      Unclog a single-serve coffee maker
      Hem holder
      Emergency hooks for broken necklaces

      NATIONAL COQ AU VIN DAY

Each year on May 29th, National Coq Au Vin Day celebrates a delicious French dish. Coq au vin is French braise of chicken, cooked with wine, lardons (salt pork), mushrooms, and garlic.

A French staple, Coq au vin translates to “rooster with wine.” It’s a rustic, peasant-style dish that is easy to serve when entertaining because a lot of the work can be done in advance. And since we all celebrated National Wine Day just a few days ago, you might be prepared and have an extra bottle on hand just for this recipe.

Different legends tell of Coq au vin back in the days of Gaul and Julius Caesar. However, the first documented recipe was in the early 20th century. There was a somewhat similar recipe, poulet au vin blanc, that appeared in an 1864 cookbook.

Love the pink heart. Hubby seems to have more energy. He hasn’t fallen asleep while I am there. It’s amazing that his energy level has climbed in the past week or so. I try to leave between 9:30 and 10pm so I can be home and still have the energy to do whatever.

Today is a day off from KP duties. Maybe tomorrow as well. This will give me an opportunity to make my stops at the Farmer’s Market and Aldi’s. Hubby gave me a list. I will comply. He hasn’t done this in months.

I have one outdoor plant that needs some water and then I will be off and running. Temp. will be in the upper 90s, however, the humidity is 66%. Pollen count is high for grass only. Still no rain in sight. Our lake is now looking like it has started to dry up. Not good for the fish or turtles. Very few birds around as well. Something is going on. Not sure what. Very sad.

      @oodiebom,

I wish I could send you some good sweet rain. 🎈😘💕Oz is 70 degrees right now and if
it stayed this way for a couple of months I would not care. My flowers and yards will flourish
with the rain and coolness. 💕😘

I am about to feed the cats and take a nice Korres Shower.

I hope you get some rest and so glad hubby is having more energy. YAY! I hope it means
he is trying to get home. 🎈

Hey after hubby I would like to be the taste tester for your new cookware. 😎

Good afternoon, taking a breather right now. You must have ESP. Yesterday you posted a green martini (which I didn’t see until today) and what did I have at our dinner last evening? An apple martini!!🍸 That is my favorite mixed drink and I haven’t had one in sooo long. I enjoyed that more than the food, shame on me.🤭

Mom and sis are fine, we did our thing today.🥰 Gearing up for the installation tomorrow. Hope all goes well and they are done in one day. And not too much dust and dirt.😣

Hope all is well at your house and you have a few days of calm weather. It’s a shame we have too much rain⛈ and the gals in Florida have none. Mother Nature needs to check her balance.

Can’t believe May is almost over. Geez, time is racing by. Hugs to you, Poppy and the kitties.🤗💖

      NATIONAL BRISKET DAY

Every year on May 28th, National Brisket Day celebrates one of the nine prime cuts of beef. Brisket comes from the breast or lower chest of beef or veal and when prepared correctly, renders both flavor and tenderness.

Brisket is a tough and relatively inexpensive cut of meat. While it requires some patience to cook brisket to tenderness, the reward is well worth the effort. Select a well-marbled cut of meat. The fat will keep the brisket moist and add flavor to the final product. Season it well and give it a dark sear. This will seal in the juices. Cook it slow and cook it long.

It can be cooked in the oven or over indirect heat over charcoal or wood. Many times oak, pecan, hickory, or mesquite is added to the other hardwoods to enhance the flavor. Brisket will be fork tender when it is fully cooked and is then served with or without a sauce.

If you have the grill fired up, go ahead and add some sweet corn and cauliflower, too. Both love the grill and they also complement brisket very well. There are plenty of recipes on the internet that will satisfy all sorts of tastes. Coleslaw and pasta salad also goes well with brisket. Add fresh fruit for this holiday. Depending on where you live, watermelon might be coming into season, but a fresh Waldorf salad would fit the bill, too.

      NATIONAL HAMBURGER DAY

National Hamburger Day on May 28th wraps up National Burger Month and also ushers in the summer grilling season.

Hamburger. Seasoned ground beef, grilled, and placed between two slices of bread or a bun. We even top them with sauteed onions, peppers, pickles, sliced onions, or cheese. Add condiments such as ketchup, mustard, or mayo. Any of these combinations create a modern American version of a hamburger.

The world’s largest hamburger was 2,566 lb – 9 oz and achieved in Pilsting, Germany, on 9 July 2017.

Much controversy surrounds the origin of the hamburger. However, it most likely first appeared in the 19th or early 20th centuries. Over the years, the hamburger has become a culinary icon in the United States.

      NATIONAL BEEF BURGER DAY

If you hear a sizzle and your mouth begins to water, it just might be National Beef Burger Day! On May 28th and all summer long, there’s no better time to enjoy a juicy beef burger. The day is all about kicking off the grilling season and honoring America’s favorite grilling protein – beef!

A beef burger starts with real ground beef on a bun or between two slices of bread. And don’t forget the toppings like cheese, onions, pickles, and condiments. Each one allows for the perfect customization – the mouthwatering possibilities are endless. Of course, some of us like ours double stacked, and others prefer them spicy. Add those seasonings, too, if you want. What’s really important is what’s in the middle – that delicious beef burger.

      Tuesday Afternoon
      Song by The Moody Blues

      Tuesday afternoon
      I’m just beginning to see
      Now I’m on my way
      It doesn’t matter to me
      Chasing the clouds away
      Something calls to me
The trees are drawing me near
I’ve got to find out why
      Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh
I’m looking at myself reflections of my mind
It’s just the kind of day to leave myself behind
So gently swaying through the fairyland of love
If you’ll just come with me you’ll see the beauty of
      Tuesday afternoon
      Tuesday afternoon
      Tuesday afternoon
      I’m just beginning to see
      Now I’m on my way
      It doesn’t matter to me

      @taci,

Good morning in S. California. Taci I read and heard on major news outlet that an actor
from GH was killed in S. California someone shot him trying to steal a part off of his car.
OMG! What is the world coming too. Taci you were right about a lot of things.

I hope you are feeling better just take your time and do what you need to do. 😎🎈

Soon you will be back on the Trails. 🎈💕

I hope you and the family had a relaxing Memorial Day Weekend.

Sheba, hope all is well in Oz. I hope they find those murderers and that they go to jail and that they stay in jail. Catalytic Converter theft is high here. Many people with security cameras show videos from the late night hours of vehicles driving around to steal them also people walking checking cars for unlocked doors, breaking car door windows. It’s bad, If you don’t already know, do not leave your garage opener in your car.

Went for a hike yesterday although I wasn’t sure how it would go. It ended up being great and i am feeling much better so far this week.
Are your rain storms over for now? I checked out the weather and read that Kansas gets a lot of Thunderstorms.

      @taci,

We are part of Tornado Alley which covers several other States. I call it OZ for a reason
we do have a lot of bad storms. We are putting things back together. Taci on the news
media many lost their lives and property in other States. So sad. This is Mother Nature and you cannot
      control her.

The actor who was killed was a pretty good actor. I was watching GH when I had Covid
and this show was taking the stress and concern of having it off a bit in my mind.
Sadly he was killed on the show as well I often wonder why they had to get rid of him.

May his memory be a blessing to his friends and family. I saw his girlfriend and she was
really upset I would be to. Why kill over a auto part? This actor was so young.

Taci it happens here to and that is why we have a good security camera. All around the
property. Hey if they want it take it just don’t shoot innocent people over a few bucks.

When I am out at night I make sure everything is locked up. I get so tired of seeing
senseless things happening to people. SMH!

Glad you are on the move again. YAY! Hey one day at a time. Kick that cold virus to the
      curb. 😎

Enjoy your evening no more thunderstorms until Thursday Night. I still know people who
      do not have power.

      MEMORIAL DAY

Each year in the United States, Americans observe the Federal holiday, Memorial Day, the last Monday in May. It honors and remembers all men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Memorial Day is also a day to remember all loved ones who have passed away.

Traditionally on Memorial Day, the flag of the United States of America is raised briskly to the top of the staff then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position where it remains until noon. At noon, it is then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day.

When the flag is at half-staff, the position is in remembrance of the more than one million men and women who gave their lives for their country. Raising the flag at noon signifies the nation lives, that the country is resolved not to let their sacrifice be in vain but to rise up in their honor and continue to fight for liberty and justice for all.

In the United States, Memorial Day also traditionally marks the beginning of summer.

      HOW TO OBSERVE Memorial Day
Attend Memorial Day services in your community. In your own way, pay tribute in remembrance of service members who have died while serving. Visit a veterans’ cemetery to honor those who’ve impacted your life. Use #MemorialDay to post on social media.

      MEMORIAL DAY HISTORY
Honoring the men and women who have died while serving in the military, communities, individuals, and organizations have kept Memorial Day in various forms in the United States since the end of the Civil War. General John Logan first called for a nationwide day of remembrance on May 5, 1868. The observance was called Decoration Day, and it was observed on May 30th, 1868.

      Decoration Day
General James Garfield spoke at Arlington National Cemetery with Generals Grant, Howard, Logan, Pane, Wool, and Hancock in attendance. Volunteers also decorated the graves of 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers.

Across the country, humble tributes occurred on that first Decoration Day. Just outside Fort Stevens near Washington, D.C., there was a small cemetery where 40 soldiers were buried, one of whom belonged to a widow from Northern Vermont. He was one of three sons she lost to the war. On Decoration Day, she went to the cemetery carrying 40 wreaths for 40 graves.

Someone placed a laurel wreath upon the head of a Lincoln statue at City Hall, Washington, D.C.

In Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroads transported passengers to the Spring Grove Cemetery. As a tribute, communities displayed flags at half-mast along the routes. More volunteers placed floral wreaths on the soldiers’ graves, and speeches were made. Many of the first Decoration Days recognized only the Union soldiers. However, other events included the Confederate soldiers as well. Over time, the day grew to include all those soldiers lost during the conflict.

Decoration Day gradually became known as Memorial Day and now honors all U.S. service members who have died during a military conflict. Memorial Day continued to be observed on May 30th for many years. Then, in 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1968. Since 1971, Memorial Day has been observed the last Monday of May.

      NATIONAL GRAPE DAY

Today is May 27 and we are celebrating the sweetness of National Grape Day by encouraging everyone enjoy one of natures most delicious foods.

Grapes are one of the most popular fruits from around the world. National Grape Day on May 27 celebrates the juicy and flavorful varieties available for snacking, sharing, and even drinking.

Archeologists say grapes have been around for 130 million years. In fact, they are one of the oldest plants on earth. Early records indicate grapes were originally cultivated 6,000 to 7,000 years ago for trading in western Asia, including Egypt, Iran, Israel and Cyprus. Interestingly, grapes were also found in tombs during the pre-Christ era. Today, there are nearly 10,000 known varieties of grapes from around the world, with about 1,300 specific varieties found in vineyards for making wine.

      5 Common Table Grapes

Concord grapes are a purple grape with a sugary taste. They have large seeds and are best when used in candy, pies, jellies, and juice.
Crimson Seedless is a reddish-green grape most commonly found in grocery stores. This grape is firm and has a subtle sweetness with a hint of tartness.
Sultana grapes, or Thompson Seedless grapes, are possibly the oldest grape available today. This greenish/white grape is a smaller table grape with a sweet, juicy flavor.
Niagara grapes, or white Concord grapes, are a light green grape that has a sweet, lemony flavor. Niagara grapes are great for making white grape juice.
Flame Seedless grapes is a popular table grape and purchased often because of availability. The grape is a purple-reddish color and is a hybrid of a Thompson Seedless and the Cardinal grape.
      Vino
According to archeological finds, the art of winemaking goes back about 6,000 to 7,000 BCE after discovering wine production in the Georgia region. However, many archeologists believe wine was made long before this time. Interestingly, the winemaking discovery has allowed scientists to analyze the grapes discovered by archeologists to determine the evolution and histories of grapes.

What grapes make good wine? It is important to understand wine grapes are smaller and sweeter than grapes we buy in the grocery store. Though table grapes and wine grapes are very similar, wine grapes require specialized care when growing because of their use.

Wine grapes grow all over the world. In fact, specific regions produce the best grapes for wine. However, some people are unaware the name of wine actually reflects the name of the grape.

      6 Common Wine Grapes
      Merlot
      Pinot Noir
      Cabernet Sauvignon
      Chardonnay
      Riesling
      Pinot Gris
The flavor of wine is depends on the region the grapes grow. Vine management during the growing season requires skill and dedication to ensure the harvest season is a successful one. Picking grapes at the exact ripeness is important to deliver a delicious wine product.

      NATIONAL GRAPE POPSICLE DAY

Since summer is just around the corner, May 27th calls for warm weather, sunshine, and National Grape Popsicle Day.

In San Francisco, California, in 1905, 11-yr-old Frank Epperson was outside on his porch, mixing water with a white powdered flavoring to make soda. Upon going inside, he left it there on the porch with the stirring stick still in it. That night the temperature reached a record low and the following morning, Frank discovered the drink had frozen to the stick.

Years later, in 1922, Epperson introduced his treat at a fireman’s ball where it was a huge success. Then in 1923, he made and sold his frozen treat-on-a-stick at an amusement park in Alameda, California. Epperson applied for a patent in 1924 for his frozen confectionery, which he called “Epsicle” ice pop. He then renamed it “Popsicle“.

Popsicles are one of summertime’s favorite treats for kids of all ages. National Grape Popsicle Day honors one of the most popular flavors!

Hi. The temp outside is really very hot with high humidity. I was outside to do a few things and those few things will have to wait until tomorrow. Summer came all of a sudden. It’s been like this for at least a couple of weeks if not longer.

I know you miss your outdoor seasonings and spices. If you have a sunny window, why not plant a couple of the ones you use most often in a planter If you have a floor area that also gets the sun, you can start there with a dish underneath to catch the overflow of soil and water. Put a basket on your walker and you can carry them anywhere. Just be sure the planter is light weight. You can spritz them at the kitchen sink or use a light weight watering can. By the time they start sprouting, you will be feeling better.

Hubby has trouble swallowing. If I bring him food, it has to be soft. Ice cream has come in handy. So has spaghetti and meatballs with sauce. He loves macaroni and cheese. He keeps asking for apples, but those for now are a no no. However, I will try one as an experiment in a stir fry. The other thing he keeps asking for is my stuffing with chicken. That I will try to do today. I have a small chopper and a blender, but will see how the chopping goes. I do have chicken in the freezer. Will add some surprises to the mix. I love experimenting.

Did you ever think of getting a twin hospital bed for downstairs. Health insurance should be able to cover the cost or part of it. When you are able to climb those stairs, you can have it picked up or you can donate it. I need to get one for hubby and thus I will be donating our queen metal bed and purchasing a twin for myself. Luckily our Master can accommodate both.

I am also brining yogurt mixed with blueberries and dragon fruit. I nuked the fruit together and it’s like having ice cream with fruit. I no longer can eat the Yogurt because it’s fermented, but maybe it’s something you can enjoy. Also puddings. Oh, in case you don’t know, please stick with your pasteurized milk. They have found that bird flu can be carried in fresh milk. I’m also not sure if our Farmer’s Market are still selling it. I will be there either today or tomorrow and will let you know. Seems some farmers have contacted bird flu from their cattle. So far there have only been a couple of cases. Yikes!!!!

The new farmer’s market is now near me. They have all kinds of take out food as well as homemade pizza and donuts. I sometimes grab a sandwich and a salad to eat with hubby. There is talk that they may be going to St. Pete. It is Amish owned so there are no preservatives added. I love their fruit and veggies, especially when there is a sale.

Have a great day. Stay inside.

Quick note. I’m running very late. Made a stuffing concoction using the new pan. I am totally impressed. Nothing sticking and the food came out amazing. I just loaded it into a thermos type container to bring with me. Hubby has been wanting a stuffing with chicken and all the fixings. The only missing items are cranberries and chestnuts. Though I have both, left them out due to others being allergic to nuts and me not having fresh cranberries. That will have to wait until I am back on Cape. Right now, they are swimming in water and will not ripen before either September or October.

Hope everyone is safe. That includes the outdoor kitties.

Hi. I used the new pan today and I am loving it. Hubby has been asking for stuffing with chicken and so today I decided to make it. The new pan really came in handy and nothing stuck to the bottom. It will be an easy clean up. I am impressed. Hubby loved the stuffing mixture. Hardest part was putting the veggies and chicken through the new electric chopper. I also forgot to add pineapples. If I bring another batch tomorrow, will add it .

I see you aren’t feeling that well. There is a possibility that you may have Covid again. Definitely check it out because some of the meds that are used need a prescription. They do work. Hope you feel better in no time.

NATIONAL BLUEBERRY CHEESECAKE DAY | MAY 26

On May 26th, two of the calendar’s favorite foods come together on National Blueberry Cheesecake Day. We’ve scattered blueberries and cheesecakes throughout these pages in scrumptious celebration. But one day a year they join forces in perfect, delicious harmony.

History of Blueberries and Cream Cheese
There was a time when people only gathered blueberries from the wild. It wasn’t until the early 1900s through the observations of Elizabeth Coleman White and the research of Dr. Frederick V. Coville that successful transplanting and domestication of the blueberry became possible. It wasn’t long after that commercial production of the blueberry began.

Combine the history of the blueberry with the development of cream cheese, some might consider the blueberry cheesecake to be a truly American dessert. While recipes for cheesecake served athletes in ancient Greece, cream cheese has been a part of American’s dessert making since about the 1820s. However, after the advent of pasteurization, mass production became possible. One dairy farmer from Chester, New York, decided to be the first. William A. Lawrence purchased a Neufchatel factory to begin his production and in 1873 the first mass-produced cream cheese became a reality.

      Types of Cheesecakes
Either way, this smooth dessert hits the spot when dessert time rolls around. While most cakes have a crumb, cheesecake’s texture is nothing like cake. Indeed, its creamy, thick pudding-like character comes from the soft cheese used as the main ingredient. Depending on the recipe, bakers use either cream cheese or cottage cheese. When the cheese is mixed with sugar, eggs, and other ingredients, the batter is added to a crust. Either add the blueberries now or save them for a beautifully fresh and vibrant topping.

When making cheesecake, one of the most common crusts used is a graham cracker crust. Other options include a cookie crust, pastry or sponge cake. However, some cheesecakes are crustless. Depending on the recipe, cheesecakes may be prepared baked or unbaked.

NATIONAL PAPER AIRPLANE DAY | MAY 26

On May 26th each year, National Paper Airplane Day honors the simple aeronautical toy that has been around for thousands of years.

National Paper Airplane Day provides an excuse to play! This inexpensive, healthy, and stimulating form of entertainment brings lots of joy, too. In other words, put down your smartphones and get outside for some primitive fun!

      Did you know?
Many believe the use of paper airplanes originated 2,000 years ago in China.
The earliest known date of the creation of modern paper planes was said to have been 1909.
The largest paper aircraft had a wingspan of 59.74 ft. Students and employees from Germany created it on 28th September 2013.
Joe Ayoob recorded the longest distance flown by a paper airplane in February 2012. His plane flew 226 feet, 10 inches.
The longest-lasting paper airplane flight flew 29.2 seconds.

      @xango,

Good afternoon in Florida. Xango if you are sleeping or resting just be well. 😎🎈😘
Check in when you are able to and Oz had a really bad storm last night.

I don’t think I would want you to have this storm. Xango late last night and at dawn
the storm came it tore down my neighbor across the street wooden fence. Hubby and I
went out in daylight to look at the damage and all we have are a few missing things out
of the yard. I checked on our elderly neighbor who lives alone right next door to us
he said he was so worried he sat up all night. The storm was intense tree debris is everywhere.

Poppy and I had to jump over tree branches and then some right now it is close to noon
here and I have to do some things I don’t know what other areas near me look like.
Many people are still without power holy smoke this is not the day to be without power.

Wishing you and hubby a nice Sunday just relax and heal. 🎈

Thank god the cats are alright one came to me this morning. 💕

I am sorry to hear about the big storm you are your area had. It’s horrible that it had to happen on this holiday weekend when so many just want to relax or attend an activity. Being without power is even worst.
I am glad the kitty cats are coming to get food after such a huge storm. And glad you have power.
      Becareful out there Sheba.
      Take care

      @xango,

I just finished feeding all the cats and I have three. 😘😎The Racoon will not go away.
I have told my neighbor they live under his deck. I will call animal control again after
the holidays. I want all the critters to be safe.

Get well my friend and you and hubby enjoy this weekend. 😎🎈

      Goodnight.

There have been times while visiting hubby that I take the Kindle Fire with me. It enables him to read the news and gives me sometime to enjoy a jigsaw or two. On several occasions there have been some ads. These have been extremely helpful and I am passing them on to you. One of the ads showed a seat that goes all the way down to the floor and rises to 21.” This seat comes with a remote and the entire thing is waterproof. I thought it would be great in a shower or in a tub. It will also give hubby some mobility using the stove instead of sitting in the wheelchair, though he would have to be able to move from one thing to the other. The other thing was a wheelchair that goes over the toilet. This one may be the best for us when traveling North. Both will come in handy if hubby is unable to walk, but can stand on the good foot to move around. Only time will tell if he will have any mobility. Both of these ideas may help you until you are able to move better and be without pain. On the walker. Do you have one that enables you to sit down and has four wheels with a brake. Amazon has these as well as some of your Medical suppliers. I found that the medical people are also on Amazon.

Take care of yourself and be well. I’m doing a happy dance knowing you are now home.

      @oodiebom,
That’s very thoughtful of you, thank you. Hopefully you will have your hubby home soon. All those items are great ideas, useful and handy.
Hubby said the temperature outside is very hot. Well, he gets hot in the Sun after he had his triple bypass. Must be all those wires inside him😀.
He is taking good care of me, no complaints. He reminds me of you, strong, determined, and nothing is going to stop him.
      Take care.

      @oodiebom,

Good afternoon on the Gulf Coast of Florida. 😎🎈Oodie a lot is going on in OZ.
We did have a bad storm in the dawn hours today. We have branches and other things
all over the yard. Neighbor across the street from our house his wooden fence that was
beautiful is torn apart and on the ground this fence is from the front of his yard to the
back and goes all around his house.

I am calling my neighbor the female professor who I am very close to and tell her that
her house is in tact. My friend is at her lake house in the Ozarks. I hope she is careful driving
because we will have more storms later in the week. I have seen worse this morning on
the national news all we can do is pray for all the people affected. A lot lost things and some
lost lives my heart goes out to their families.

I do hope you get some rain sometimes you don’t get enough and then you get too much.

Moving on I am multi-tasking today helping hubby get things back to normal. I am thankful
all my neighbors and State is alright.

I hope you and your husband have a nice Sunday. 😎🎈Glad he is getting the PT.

I hope when you fix your Asian Food in your new cookware it turns out perfect. 💕

Oz is getting warmer now it’s not too bad yet. 😎 Let me know how your day goes Oodie.

      @sheba2011

I read about the devastation in Oklahoma and immediately went to HSN and found you had just started the thread. Seeing you there I knew you were OK, but nothing was mentioned on line anywhere about OZ. I did know you may be hit with some severe thunderstorms and wondered how Poppy would be and the kitties you see on a daily basis. That kitty you saw this morning may be ready for a pet on the head or back. I have a feeling that he or she may be shy but will let you near. I know and feel there are more storms on the horizon. And that goes for us on the Gulf Coast. I am hoping that hubby and I will be able to travel North where it is a bit safer during this time of year. Thankfully, you and your neighbors are OK.

I haven’t seen hubby the last couple of days. I worked on the kitchen and got some much needed rest. If I took a break and sat anywhere, I noticed that I had fallen asleep for a few hours and then some. The kitchen is beginning to look real good. I cannot wait to try those new pans out. I will be going through the cabinet where the pots and pans are. I do have a few new ones to unbox as well. But these two, are stainless steel with a ceramic coating to make whatever you cook to be perfect and best of all, no sticking to the pan. Of course it will take no time to clean. This is one of the few times that HSN has offered something useful at a low price. It’s a customer pick!! I have all the ingredients for a nice stir fry and will definitely give these a try within a day or two.

Please stay safe. Maybe Poppy should use his favorite tree until things are cleared. I don’t want to hear that you tripped over something. Maybe you should carry your cell, just in case.

      • Sheba2011
      • 05.27.24 3:19 AM

      @oodiebom,

Good evening you are so funny. I have never tripped on anything in my life. I slipped on Ice
I did not know was there I never want to do that again. I jumped over the tree debris with
Poppy I am very agile. What worries me is a neighbor’s son went running and a live wire
almost fell on him and people stopped to make sure he was alright he is fine.

I let Poppy go to his spot in the back on really bad storm days and we will have many of
      them tis the season. Sigh..

I read a lot of sadness with the other storms that took lives and property. I know you can’t
control mother nature. All the animals are fed for the night hubby will feed them in the
morning. Hey sometimes I wish I could get a tax write off for the food I provide. I think
everything you do comes back to you so it’s alright. 😎 I have learned how to budget
really well I don’t need a lot of things so that money goes for the animals to eat.

The tabby cat is the cat from next door she knows me. The neighbor gave her to some
neighbors up the street but lately she has been coming to me. I have known this cat
since the day the original owner brought her home she is fixed and has a twin sister who
is gray. This neighbor travels the all over Europe and I have cat sat for him while they are
gone. The cats were his daughter but she has up and moved back to her mother.
Every time she sees me rolls on her back so I can rub her belly. I love doing it. 😎 If I see
her out on a bad night I am bringing her in the house. 💕

I am so glad you are getting some much needed rest. I was wondering about that.

Enjoy this evening and I hope it is cool right now. 🎈

Sheba, Sounds like you had some awful storms. I don’t know how those cats handle rain, snow and storms. I stayed inside most of the day because my congestion is now a sore throat.
Did you get a dg Jean Jacket? I have a Levi’s jean jacket that is almost 30 years old. I don’t wear it but may have to start again. Gifted it to my hubs but we can share. He probably doesn’t remember. The sunflower and butterfly jackets were my fav.
      Have a great evening!

      • 05.27.24 3:28 AM

      @taci,

Good evening I have both the jackets in my favorites I have my eye on them. I do have
the DG Jeans that would look great with them. 💕😎

Taci you have a good eye for jewels and fashion. 💕🎈

I was hoping someone would say something about the jackets that was the reason
I posted all the designs for that one jacket. I would get both. 💕😎

Yeah the storms can be hard and I keep an eye out for them. I don’t think they are
scared of the racoon they don’t seem to care but when they are eating and it runs up
on them they all run away. I am going to talk to our Vet about this.

I hope you feel better soon sounds like it is leaving your body. Taci good thing you are
strong and healthy the first time I caught the flu it was the worst thing that ever happened
to me I think I slept through it. The second time I caught it 20 years later I went to the
ER and was given Tamflu a script and told if I did not take it that night I would feel worse.
I took that pill and slept like a baby I felt so much better and I have worn a mask ever since.

I hope you get some good rest tonight.

      Happy Memorial Day. 🎈

Good afternoon in ‘burgh. Enjoy this day and just relax. OZ got hit with a bad storm.
Lady we had debris everywhere I am thankful no one was hurt. My elderly neighbor
next door was up alright riding it out he has a huge house and lives alone as his wife
years ago. I always check on him.

Lady enjoy the day with your hubby and thank him for his service to our country. 😎🎈

Sending lovely cool hugs to you and Jake. 😘💕

      @sheba2011

Glad you are safe. We had bad storms also yesterday afternoon and evening. Tornado warnings again.🌪 More storms tonight into tomorrow morning, this is getting ridiculous.😖 Maybe there was a micro-burst that took your neighbor’s fence down. That happened to us a couple years ago and took some trees out.

Laying low today. The food from the birthday party, although good, didn’t sit well with me last night.😝 I’ve been up since 4:00 AM. Busy week ahead so need to catch up on sleep. I’ll probably fall asleep watching the hockey game.🏒😴

BTW, you need those two jackets with the sunflower and butterfly on them in honor of Oz and your father.🙏 Hope you get everything cleaned up, hugs to you and Poppy.🤗💖

Those jackets are on the list. 😘😎🎈Good catch I was hoping you all would see them.
I posted all the designs for that one jacket. I think they are really cool. 😎

Hubby and I were busy today and I am jumping into the shower before another storm
comes back. Lady when a elderly man tells you he did not sleep in his bed and he lives
right next door to you that is saying how bad the storm was. The friend told me he did
not want to go to sleep with all the noise if something happened he wanted a chance
to make it out of the house. My husband was up but I went to sleep I was worried about
      the cats.

This is where I will be tomorrow afternoon. 🎈😎 Sending Memorial Day hugs to you
      and your husband. 😘🎈

NATIONAL TAP DANCE DAY | May 25

On May 25 during National Tap Dance Day, we pay tribute to one of America’s original dancing art forms.

Tap dance is a percussive dance dating back to the early 1800s, with a combination of primarily influences of African and Irish heritage.

Incorporating complex rhythmic step combinations, tap dance performers often expressed enormous amounts of character through sound and body movement. From clogging to buck and wing styles, soft-shoe to the sand step, and a little bit of jazz, tap dancing evolved from a stiff Irish jig to the bodily Cakewalk and vocal Ring-shout.

      Famous Tap Dancers
      Bill “Bojangles” Robinson
      Fred Astaire
      Gregory Hines
      Ginger Rogers
Each of these performers added their own flair to a dance style that continues to influence film, music and stage.

Another dance similar to tap dance is called soft-shoe. While still rhythmic, the sound is muffled since tap shoes are not necessary to perform the steps. Many of the dance steps in tap transfer to soft-shoe making the two very compatible.

The popular Shim Sham of the vaudeville era became a line dance in the 1980s.

      NATIONAL WINE DAY

On May 25th each year, wine lovers everywhere pour a glass of their favorite wine to celebrate National Wine Day. Whether it is Red or White, the sound of glassing “clinking” will be heard around the world today.

Made from fermented grapes or other fruits, wine is an alcoholic beverage. During the fermentation processes, yeast consumes the sugars in the grapes converting it into alcohol. Different grapes produce different wines. Winemakers will combine different wines to create more complex flavors. Wines made from fruit or honey are often named according to the variety of fruit used.

Red wine varietals produce deep ruby reds as well as subtle ambers and browns. Their beautiful colors hint at the coming change in the season. With that, we can look for delicious menu changes, too. Besides, what better way to enjoy a great bottle of wine than by pairing it with excellent company and food.

Winemakers produce white wines from grapes with light yellow-green skins or light red skins. However, it’s not the color of the grapes that give the wine its color. It’s the tannins in the grape skins that color wine red and also the flavor. White wines are generally sweeter than red wines and are best served chilled. Most red wines are served at room temperature. However, a sweet red should also be chilled for the best flavor.

      TOWEL DAY

Observed annually by fans of Douglas Adams, Towel Day commemorates the work of the author most known for his series The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

First and foremost, it’s important to note for those who are unfamiliar with Douglas Adams, according to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, “A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.”

And that’s mighty important. Even we mere Earthly hitchhikers require towels for many immensely useful purposes. We dry our furry pets and roll towels neatly into coordinated rows. On long trips, they ease the kinks in our necks. Even our tiny humans use them to dry off after taking a swim. Though, perhaps not very effectively. It can also offer shade on a sunny day.

We’ve found that towels in small forms are effective for sport, too. Golfers and bowlers use them. Add a small towel to a footballer’s hip and call it a flag or wave a white one in a battle to surrender.

In an emergency, a towel can stop bleeding or can carry the wounded. It also can cool a fever. Wrap it around you on a cool day. Wash a car or wipe up the oil. A really large towel might suffice for a toga party. However, in reality, it probably wouldn’t.

The list of options goes on both here on Earth and beyond in every galaxy. The important lesson of the day is, don’t leave home without your towel.

Remember the old saying that “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” It takes time to heal especially in the inside. Soup is great. You can add veggies and let them soften. You can puree some things as well and also make smoothies to help your immune system. I am sure the hospital gave you a list and some suggestions before they sent you home. As I said many times. I just wish I knew where you lived so I could come by to make sure you were all right. I definitely need a fix at the Asian market, but the traffic tie ups keeps me away.

Hubby is still in rehab. His mind is good. His legs not so. He is finally getting PT on a daily basis. He has a brace on the bad leg which offers the support. The other leg is starting to look good. After this weekend I will be trying to take him out for a ride and to show him several places that he may enjoy. Not so sure if I will be able to get him out of the car and into a wheelchair at this point. He is dead weight and needs to relearn how to get from Point A to B.

Great you are home. Don’t overdo anything. Just let your body heal. Missed ya.

      Hi Sheba,
Send some rain here. All my herbs are gone. My plants dried up and died. Hubby said no rain in many weeks. The grass is so dry and the trees are not so green.
Pain meds puts me to sleep, that’s about all I want to do. Had some pain last night, but was able to fall asleep after the meds kicked in.

I am so glad your husband is helping so sorry for no rain and your herbs and plants.
Xango when you are on your feet you can always re-plant and re-grow. I will keep
      praying for you.

Hey I have been so sick I was on Morphine and everything in the hospital was purple.
I never want to go through that again all caused by an emergency gall bladder surgery.
I was in that lovely hospital for eight straight days I had all kinds of tubes in me.

We are moving forward just take your time and soon you will be your good ole self. 😘💕🎈

Hi, thank you for your kind words. It’s going to take some time. I am determined to be able to get back in my kitchen and make something delicious.

      @oodiebom,

Good afternoon on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Oodie I wish I could send some of our
rain to you. 🎈😎💕We are in the 70’s for now and it does feel good.

We are going to Leavenworth National Cemetery this weekend. We have a lot of family
there and it is really beautiful this time of year. All our family are near each other. 💕
The National Cemetery is just up the road only 25 minutes away. We will pay our respects
to all who serve and are there as well as our family members.💕😎

I hope you are doing alright today and enjoy your visit with your husband.
Oodie you always find good food there in your area. 💕I know you are pleased to see
Xango post and let us know how she is doing. I am very relieved that in time she will be
alright. I am also praying for her husband. 💕😎

      @sheba2011

Another sunny and beautiful day on the Gulf Coast. The temp is in the mid 80s and will probably hit the 90s soon. High humidity. Hardly a breath of air. I am about to shower and to visit hubby.
Before I forget, I did order Andrew’s Efficient in the Cranberry and Pomegranate. I’m impressed. Going to bring a packet for hubby to try.

I was going to plant the Dipladenia plants in a planter yesterday. I found two planters in our shed that were OK. The color was wrong, but they would work. So I put a planter by the driveway to see how it would look and I liked it. Went into the house to get a pair of scissors and brought the plant up front only to find that someone had stolen the planter. That will teach me never to bring anything up front until I have everything together. I then contacted the people who do our lawn and they will be out in a few days. He mentioned that they would do best in ground and will take care of the two plants for me. I am thrilled.

So happy to see a post from xango. I hope and pray that this is the beginning of better days for both of them. It had to be difficult for her husband to try and juggle work and seeing her on a daily basis. I wonder if this had something to do with her fall last year in the supermarket.

Hubby is receiving Physical Therapy daily. He wears a brace on the left foot for support. He says he will walk again and not to bother with a ramp. Hmm……I think a ramp is a good idea. It will keep me from falling and tripping up and down those steep steps.

I am still doing KP in the kitchen. Everytime I use Clean Boss I become more and more impressed. The top of our stove looks brand new and this is the first time I can say that. Unfortunately, I still have not been able to use the new dishwasher. The plumber will finally be here sometime after the weekend. Meanwhile I am doing handwashing which does take time and not a happy camper knowing that it will all need to be really sanitized in the dishwasher later. To re-empty the cabinets is not my cup of tea.

I am totally impressed with the new Hex Clad pans that were a TS last week. Though made in China, they are sturdy and everything comes out perfect. The heating element is what I am most impressed with. The bottom of the pan heats everything at the same time. Cleaning is a pleasure. And the top and bottom do fit nicely together where one becomes a cover. Hubby enjoys an omelet now and then, so the two pans will come in handy at that time. Though they can go into the oven at 500 degrees, I will keep it way under. I like using the temps between 350 and 375. I think Taci would be impressed. I started looking at these pans in Amazon when they were first introduced by Chef Ramsey. Several months later Costco had three pans in stock for $70 +. I thought the price was too high and at the time did not understand the concept. My thoughts were that they were nothing more than a regular easy to clean pan. Little did I know. Cannot wait to try my Asian cooking skills in these pans.

Here’s to a great Memorial weekend. Would love to be at your home to enjoy the grilling by your mastery chef. Someday, I hope and pray that we will be doing just that in our own backyards. Like you, I cannot wait to bring hubby home. There will be much to celebrate on that day. Stay safe. Enjoy the moonlight and the stars as you walk with Poppy.

      @oodiebom,

Good evening Oodie and I hope this is a good evening for you.
I so wish your husband was home. Oodie you think they will let him
play the Piano for the Memorial Day? I think other patients and staff may enjoy
      it. 😎🎈

Oodie you have a lot going on that KP is a lot. Hey good luck with Asian Cooking that
      should be fun.

I knew you would be pleased to hear from Xango as we all are. I have to say she has been
through a lot and I kinda know what that is like. All she needs is time to heal. Xango dear
husband as a care giver like you also need to tender care and rest.

So I hope all of you can take a deep breathe and just let it out.

Enjoy with a good book and some Manuka Honey. 😎💕

      Hi Oodiebom,
Hope you are well and your hubby is getting better.
Thank you for your post. Good to be home, I sleeping on the sofa for now.
Using the walker to get to the bathroom.
Remember those sponge bath towels that you just add water and no need to rinse. Just wipe with a dry towel? Boy they are very handy.

Sheba, Hello. Yes, I sure do remember Mcpoopoo. It’s quite a memorable name.
We had a nice cool day but I stayed in except to water some plants in the back yard.
Still congested, hope it will be gone soon.
      Have a great Holiday weekend.

I sure hope you are feeling a little better today and can enjoy the holiday weekend. No cooking for you – take-out, delivery or whatever works for you. It is pouring rain here, glad I didn’t plan a cookout. Take care.🤗

Hey Xango posted last night and what a joy. 💕 Xango has been through a lot
so I will appreciate this little speck of time we have with her.

How are you doing today? Hubby and I are going up the road to Leavenworth

Shoelady, Thanks for the well wishes. Still congested but hubs is making me go out tomorrow. haha. I don’t really cook too much so they will be used to it here, but I always offer salads and broccoli. Yah, not the most popular one on the block. Although once a kid was at our house years ago and he had to call his Mom to ask if he could eat a cupcake. So I could be worse.
Enjoy the weekend and Military Service if you are able to get to it. Thank Mr. Shoey for his Service for me!

      @sheba2011

Happy holiday to you!✨ We just got home from a surprise “open house” birthday party for a friend. Looks like storms are moving in for this afternoon and evening.⛈ Tomorrow may be okay but more again on Monday.

It was great to hear from Xango. I hope her and her husband can have a relaxing holiday.

So nice to hear you are going to Leavenworth to honor your family and the fallen. We have a large cemetery fairly close to our home that has a Memorial Day ceremony every year. As long as the weather holds up we normally attend. As you know, hubs is a veteran so it means a lot to him.😌

Enjoy your weekend, holiday hugs to you and Poppy.🤗💖
