Conversation 25

  • Sheba2011
  • 05.23.24 12:45 PM

Hello Peeps time for a new Conversation Thread. This is number 25 out of the
series. I created and started this thread 10 years ago.

I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. โœจ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. ๐ŸŒนโœจ๐Ÿ˜Ž

      The Dangling Conversation
      Song by Simon & Garfunkel

      It’s a still life watercolor
      Of a now-late afternoon
As the sun shines through the curtain lace
      And shadows wash the room
And we sit and drink our coffee
Couched in our indifference, like shells upon the shore
You can hear the ocean roar
      In the dangling conversation
      And the superficial sighs
      The borders of our lives
And you read your Emily Dickinson
      And I my Robert Frost
And we note our place with book markers
      That measure what we’ve lost
      Like a poem poorly written
We are verses out of rhythm
      Couplets out of rhyme
In syncopated time (in syncopated time)
      And the dangling conversation
      And the superficial sighs
Are the borders of our lives
Yes, we speak of things that matter
With words that must be said
      “Can analysis be worthwhile?”
      “Is the theater really dead?”
And how the room is softly faded
And I only kiss your shadow, I cannot feel your hand
You’re a stranger now unto me
      Lost in the dangling conversation
      And the superficial sighs
In the borders of our lives

      NATIONAL COOLER DAY

What more could you need than a cold drink for the official launch of summer? Something to keep it cold, of course! National Cooler Day, the Friday before Memorial Day, makes staying cool easy this summer.

As simple as the design of a cooler may seem, it wasn’t until the 1950s that the first cooler or โ€œportable iceboxโ€ made the scene. In fact, the material needed to make coolers didn’t even exist until 1944.

While we rely on coolers today to keep our food and beverages cold for various outdoor activities – they do so much more. Coolers save lives during disasters by carrying food (cold or hot) to areas affected by loss of power. Sporting events, fundraisers, and parades run more smoothly when volunteers bring their coolers along. They also keep medications at the proper temperature during shipping.

Of course, the combination of durable portability makes the cooler an essential tool in many ways. It is our spare seat, prep station, and umbrella anchor, too. Despite the wear and tear endured, they faithfully provide us with an ice-cold drink on a hot day โ€“ until the beverages run out.

      NATIONAL ROAD TRIP DAY

The Friday before Memorial Day is declared National Road Trip Day and serves as the official kickoff of the summer road trip season. Millions of Americans hit the road each year over the long weekend to visit friends and family, while paying tribute to our American heroes.

OFFICIAL DESTINATION FOR NATIONAL ROAD TRIP DAY 2023
National Day Calendar traveled to Pontiac, IL, to celebrate the Official Destination for National Road Trip Day 2023.

Americans are anxious to hit the road to kick off the summer road trip season. A recent surveys suggest an overwhelming majority prefer driving as the leading choice for reaching their summer destinations. According to The Vacationer, 80 percent of Americans are going to take a road trip this summer. In fact, most are making plans for Memorial Day weekend and plan on traveling by car.

Whether youโ€™re seeking adventure, visiting family and friends, or making a business connection, road trips are often a rite of passage. National Road Trip day is about making this vacation season all about the journey to the destination.

      Getting There
Road trips that begin and end with happy passengers are always the best. Here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Plan ahead. Even a spur of the moment trip requires planning. Two in five, or 42 percent of road trippers find travel apps very helpful when planning their trip. Mapping out your stops ahead of time can be a great way to save both time and money. The Pilot Flying Jโ€™s myRewards PlusTM app allows travelers to tailor their trip routes. In addition, the app helps travelers save on the go by showcasing specific amenities, fuel prices and more.
Vehicle maintenance is vital to any successful road trip. Beyond the routine maintenance, such as oil changes and sound tires, other simple checks will keep you on the road. Check your wipers and wiper fluid. Make sure your spare tire and jack are in place. Ensure all lights and signals are working. Look at the condition of your brake pads. Verify your car registration is current or not about to expire.
Plot your course. Consider construction, fuel and snack stops, shopping, and the interests of the other travelers. Prioritize your road trip for convenience and efficiency. About 58 percent of travelers want to stop at all-in-one rest stops that offer gas, food, drinks, coffee, bathrooms, and more. Grab your โ€œroad trip essentialโ€ snacks. These can include chips and salty foods, freshly made or grab-and-go foods, and fast food options.

      BROTHER’S DAY | May 24

Brotherโ€™s Day on May 24th honors the brothers in our lives. Whether we have one or many, they hold a special place in our hearts.

Even for those who donโ€™t have one, someone in their life is usually like a brother to them. Brothers from other mothers are found in a best friend, a brother-in-law, or a cousin. They are the men in our lives we count on even when we donโ€™t talk very often. We share memories, and challenges that frequently began with the phrase, โ€œWatch this!โ€ soon followed by a few stitches.

While minding their own business, they are also prepared to step in when necessary. Thatโ€™s what brothers do.

Of course, theyโ€™ve been known to put toads on your head or gum in your hair. They may have been too cool for you once, too. Brothers come in many shapes and sizes and so do their relationships. Whatever yours is, take the time to celebrate your brother on Brotherโ€™s Day.

NATIONAL YUCATรN SHRIMP DAY | MAY 24

National Yucatรกn Shrimp Day on May 24th celebrates a dish exploding with flavor. Plump, peel-and-eat shrimp are the centerpiece of this dish, and the flavors remind diners of the sunny summer evenings.

Shrimp lovers shouldn’t miss out on a dish like this. While the Yucatรกn Peninsula is further south on the Gulf of Mexico, this recipe hails from the waters along Florida’s coast. The garlic, butter, and special sauce give it a kick that keeps diners coming back for more. Serve it with crusty bread and white wine or an icy cold beer. You can almost imagine the dazzling blue waters of the Gulf and the sea breeze with every bite. And don’t forget the large, tender shrimp, too.

Hi Sheba, it’s been an unbelievable experience. I got discharged from the hospital Wednesday. During all this time I have gone through several operations and procedures. Had infections, bleeding and so much more.
In the process got organs taken out.
Well I am home trying to get better and working on eating some solid foods. Not there yet, only liquids and soups.
My poor hubby had to do so much for me, getting up early going to the hospital. Working and seeing me at night. This week he took off for my discharge, it’s so good to be home.
I read you are grilling, have a nice piece of whatever for me. ๐Ÿ˜Š
Enjoy your weekend and holiday ๐Ÿ˜Š

Welcome back dear friend. I really and truly missed you. I could not figure out what was wrong. The last post said you would write when you had something to say.. You and your hubby have been through a lot in the past two years. Take it easy and rest. Glad you are home and I hope you have some extra pair of hands beside hubby’s to help you mend. Take care of yourself. I am so thankful that you are home. Nothing like sleeping in your own bed.

I am just so happy you will be alright. I said many prayers for you. I have things going on

Good afternoon on the Gulf Coast of Florida. I hope it is a cooler day for you.
Oz is warm but alright I do have the A/C set to come on when needed. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I am getting some things done and this is one and done stuff. I have many things
I am donating to a homeless shelter Thrift Store. ๐ŸŽˆ

I hope you and hubby will enjoy your long weekend. Hubby and I will do some grilling
with the fixings maybe a few people will drop over. Hey we will all be on the Patio.

I am glad you are loving your baking treasures. We went shopping and brought a nice
watermelon and it is so good. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŽˆ

Oodie I miss hearing about the birds you feed shrimp and fish. ๐Ÿ’•

      @sheba2011

I also loved the patio picture yesterday. Wouldn’t mind changing the wicker set to that one. My only concern are the hurricanes which could start at any moment.

The two plants I purchased are absolutely beautiful. I took a chance ordering on line and I will be letting the vendor know how much I am enjoying them. I decided to contact the people who do our lawn and have them transplant them where they can get full sun. that’s a huge choice since the front and back of our home get full sun all day. The flowers are red and coral. I hope the hummingbirds and butterflies enjoy the nectar. Will be fun to sit back and watch.

Yes, I am reading again. It’s a mystery novel by Faye Hellerman, “Killing Season.” Both she and her husband, Jonathan, are writers. Even their son writes every now and then. I just wish hubby would pick up a book every now and then. He has started many stories only to put it down after a couple of chapters. Me, I love being transported to different venues. It’s like being there in person. and what a wonderful way to have a vacation without leaving home or in my case, hubby’s rehab room.

It is very hot and muggy. Temp is almost 95 degrees with high humidity. No rain in sight for the next 10 days or so. I am being very careful what I wish for. I do not think there is one Floridian looking forward to hurricane season. The season begins June 1st and goes to the end of November, though things seem to drop off by the middle of that month.

Hope you and Poppy enjoy tonight. The moon was lovely last night. Huge with a bit of yellow. I surmise it was either a bright red or orange as it rose in the East against the setting sun in the West. Hubby’s room faces the street. I surmise your hubby has the entire weekend off. The grill sounds nice. Take care and stay safe.

      @oodiebom,

Good evening I watched the moon all night as it came to my bedroom window perfectly. ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ’•
Hubby and I will be doing the little things the kids have some plans this summer.

I hope you are enjoying your time with hubby I can’t wait for him to come home.

I am listening to the music of my parents Simon and Garfunkel I love their fantastic
harmony. I can listen to the songs all day. My mom still loves their music. ๐Ÿ’•

I don’t go far from home when it gets really dark too many wild animals are coming to the
area and they want Poppy. I promise you that is not going to happen so we go in early
evening when the sky and moon becomes one. ๐Ÿ˜˜

Look up at the moon I will be waving. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

This is a labor of love and you are right it takes a lot of effort and energy to do it right.
This is just a little knock around thread I came up with ten years ago. Everyone in the

and things. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŽˆMy background is all that. I hope you enjoy it every time you take a look.

      Nancy Sinatra Lyrics
      “You Only Live Twice”

You only live twice or so it seems
One life for yourself and one for your dreams
You drift through the years and life seems tame
Till one dream appears and love is it’s name

And love is a stranger who’ll beckon you on
Don’t think of the danger or the stranger is gone

This dream is for you, so pay the price
Make one dream come true, you only live twice

And love is a stranger who’ll beckon you on
Don’t think of the danger or the stranger is gone

This dream is for you, so pay the price
Make one dream come true, you only live twice

NATIONAL TAFFY DAY | MAY 23

May 23rd celebrates a mouth-watering confection on National Taffy Day. Taffy candy has been made and sold for many years and has become a favorite souvenir of many vacationers.

Salt water taffy in was invented 1883 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Confectioners make this sweet treat using boiled sugar and butter. They stretch and pull the concoction until it is a chewy consistency that can be rolled and cut. The flavors range from buttery to tart to sweet. There is a flavor for everyone, and it seems like they introduce a new one each year, too. Taffy’s colorful displays entice children and adults alike. And they have been doing so for generations. At one time, candy shops and pharmacies sold penny candy, and taffy was one of the many tempting options we could choose from. However, those days are now long gone.

With summer just around the corner, seasonal candy shops are stocking up their latest selections. With so many flavors to choose from, it’s often hard to decide which ones to pick. That’s why they often offer flavors swirled together to help us narrow it down. But we’re still enticed by the variety and the colors.

NATIONAL LUCKY PENNY DAY | MAY 23

On May 23rd, National Lucky Penny Day hopes you’ll have good luck all day long. Heads or tails, does it matter which side you find your penny?

Years ago a penny was able to buy something. (Check out National Taffy Day – to see what we used to get for a penny.) Today, due to inflation, the penny does not buy much of anything. The metal value and cost of minting pennies exceed their face value. Many nations have stopped minting equivalent value coins and efforts are being made to end the routine use of pennies in several countries including the United States.

See a penny, pick it up. All day long youโ€™ll have good luck.

      First U.S. Penny
The United States first issued a one-cent coin produced by a private mint in 1787. Benjamin Franklin designed it. On one side, it read โ€œMind Your Businessโ€ and the other โ€œWe Are One.โ€ This coin was made of 100% copper and was larger than todayโ€™s penny. It came to be known as the Fugio cent. However, the first pennies struck in a United States Mint werenโ€™t produced until 1793, but they were also made of copper.

Pennies may not have much value these days. However, there are a few pennies that have made a mint for the owner:

1943-D: Lincoln Bronze Penny sold for $1.7 million.
1944-S: Lincoln Steel Penny sold for $373,750.
1943-S: Lincoln Penny made of Bronze sold for $282,000.
1909 VDB: Lincoln Penny sold for $258,500.
1856: Flying Eagle Penny sold for $172,500.

Why are pennies lucky? Well at one time, metals, including copper were precious material. Finding a penny was a valuable find. Sometimes finding a penny had more to do with the daily battle between good and evil. Do you only pick up a penny if itโ€™s head side up?

Superstitions carry on from generation to generation. And with some of them the rule that says if you find a penny tail side up, you should flip it over and leave it head side up for the next lucky person to find.

On a wedding day, there’s also a saying that leads people to put a penny in the bride’s shoe. It’s more likely to lead to a blister than to bring good luck in that case.

When you are out and about, look on the ground for pennies. It just might be your lucky day!

Good morning on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Busy day today for me. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
Oz has a nice cool breeze and I hope to feel this way all day.

I hope you made it to Costco and the markets. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

      @sheba2011

I made it to Costco yesterday and had a great time looking around and such. I did manage to put purchase the water I so desperately needed. A nice gentleman came by as I opened the trunk and put them inside for me. Thank goodness I didn’t need to lift them. Also, I picked up a crunchy salad which is absolutely delicious. It comes with the dressing. Don’t laugh, I had some for breakfast. On the way to see Hubby I picked up vanilla custard and chocolate decadent which was the feature one for the day. Both with hot fudge. I don’t know what made hubby so happy, the ice cream or seeing me. The aid kidded him on getting the fudge on his shirt and on the sheet. Guess both wanted a taste (LOL).

I left early and had a beautiful sky with the moon. The moon was full and it emanating the clouds all around. It was very similar to one of your pictures on this thread. It had some yellows and whites. Loved it.

When I arrived home my plants had arrived along with a package that I assumed was from HSN. The plants are beautiful and the flowers gorgeous. Full bush for both and cannot wait to plant them. I picked up two huge planters from Sam’s Club in a lapis color. I was hoping for teal, but took what I could. The planters are a little large for these plants, however, if we get a bad storm during the hurricane season, the soil should hold them down. If I’m here, will bring them into the lanai prior to any storm. And speaking of packages, received one that I assumed was HSN. I don’t recall purchasing clothing, but opened it and found something that was not my taste. Looked at the label which took some time. It was from the Q and belongs to a neighbor on another street. I will drop it off with a note on my way to see hubby.

I see there is someone else having problems signing in. I think anyone who has been in the Arcade lately, should definitely check their virus software. I just have a funny feeling on this one. For once, I hope I am wrong.

Oodie. thank you for the information about the ts pots. Please keep me posted on how they wear once being used. Just about everything is made in China. I get temu adds when playing the games here at HSN, and i do not plan to order from them.
You mentioned water issues and I wanted to let you know that quite a few years ago our water smelled heavily chlorinated. Whenever they work on the water system here, apparently they load it up with chlorine.
I bring a reusable water bottle when I hike (not the famous Stanley’s, guess i am not cool enough haha) and upon opening would smell the chlorine. We decided to filter the water dispenser on the refrigerator/freezer and I also bought a PUR Pitcher. The pitcher is easy to use and you can refill it easily. You also need to buy the purifier refills at any retail store. Maybe you have seen them, but if you have not it may help you. We also test our water and both filters work well.

      @taci,

Good evening I am so sorry I think your post went poof earlier.

Taci I hope you are feeling better and your cold is one and done.

Let me know how it is going and welcome to the new thread. Taci this is number 25.
I have had some threads that ran for over two years. LOL! I should have around 100 threads
just for Conversation and that is not counting all the others I have done in the Community.

Hey Happy Trails my friend. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŽˆ

Sheba, Happy 25! Do you feel young now? ๐Ÿ™‚ 25 Conversations threads is no easy task. You are amazing at it and wow so many years too. If your backyard looks like the picture then it is a beauty. The Hydrangea plant that I bought last year has one bloom appearing. I am thrilled it lived a year and hope it will start to really grow. I do have a 2nd one and if it lives will plant it soon. My blooms are pink. Still congested and a bit sick. Taking it easy and stayed in for the last 3 days. Glad you like Brentwood but if you go please don’t take your valuables. Just check the news and you’ll understand what I mean.
Have you or anyone you know hiked The Camino de Santiago? I am trying to talk my hubs into it but he isn’t crazy about the idea. My son said a woman where he works did it and she’s old like me. haha, actually she is a decade younger. All ages can do it though. Maybe Ms. Heidi will want to get her groupies to to it, oh i mean a group. haha. It looks fun to me. Why have I never heard of these things in my younger years? Well, guess I was busy working.
      Have a great evening!

I’m on my way out the door, however, I wanted to let you know that I received the pans last night from the TS. I will let you know when I return what I think of them. Howver, there have been many articles written on the new Hex Clad on MSN. com.. Sounds like people are giving them a 5 star review. Of course it depends on the manufacturer.

The two pans are made well. When you look at them they are totally different from any other pan that food des not stick to. However, these are made in China and I did do some more exploring and asked tons of questions. Seems for now, most or all of the Hex Clad pots and pans are made in China. I checked my All Clad pots and pans and they are made in the USA, however these are all stainless steel. All Clad does use China, Germany and the United States for manufacturing and they do have the Hex Clad, but the price is out of sight.

According to what I have read, these pans can go into an oven up to 500 degrees. I’m not sure if I would trust these pans in 500 degree temps. People should be aware that the oven sometimes cooks at a higher temp. Safe to say 350 to maybe 400 would be OK. . Also, though the manufacturer says they are dishwasher safe, I would still wash by hand since most detergents are really harsh on any coating including stainless steel. I discarded all pots and pans that discolored or had pit marks as a result of using the dishwasher. The detergent used in the dishwasher is not the same as the one you use in cleaning by hand. I will be keeping these pans. Totally different from the ones purchased from Curtis Stone and is no where like the old Teflon either. It does not have the same surface as other pans I own. Cannot wait to give them a try since I enjoy stir frying.

I hope this has helped in some way. I will be picking up some freshly caught fish and will let you know how that comes out. I usually make my fish stove top. That’s so I do not over cook it. Different taste when it has not been frozen. Very sweet and moist.

      @shoelady60,

Good morning in the ‘burgh. Yeah I had to start a new thread. No biggie I’ve been doing
this for ten years. I can do it in my sleep. I am not in competition with anyone and never
have been. I like what I do because it all comes from my head. LOL! ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŽˆ

This thread is not for everyone and it never has been people like to look and I know
this for sure. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŽˆI wish for one thing that we had the HSN private message I miss
that feature. My reason is not to talk about others but to say something I don’t want
others to read due to privacy. I hope I said that right. LOL!

Hey friend wishing you a cool day and I know you are doing things.

Sending cool vibes to you and Jake. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ’•

I did look yesterday and saw that it was messed up so didn’t post, not knowing where it would end up. This has been happening more frequently than years before.๐Ÿคช

Very nice day, no rain for a change. Same tomorrow but hit or miss for the weekend. Just got home from an early dinner with friends so now I feel full and lazy.๐Ÿฅด Plan to stop at mom’s tomorrow for a couple hours.

Hope your husband has a long weekend and you two can take it easy for a change. We always seem to be running here and there.๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Yesterday I had a doe jump into my yard and decide to take it easy. She laid down for 3 hours. I didn’t want to scare her so stayed inside and kept watch through the door and window. Saw the baby fawn when she left. It couldn’t have been more than a week or two old.๐Ÿฅฐ

Hugs to you, Poppy and the kitties.๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’–
