I created and started this thread almost 14 years ago. 😎🎈

I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. ✨😎

I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. 🌹✨😎I have been shopping and posting on HSN since the late
90’s 😎I have wonderful memories from the HSN we all know and love.

      NATIONAL CREPE SUZETTE DAY

May 6th honors a unique and delicious dessert on National Crepe Suzette Day!

While there are slightly different versions of crepes Suzette, the dish is quite distinct from most other crepe dishes. The recipe first appeared in the 19th century in Paris courtesy of Chef Henri Charpentier. According to the chef’s memoir, he accidentally ruined a sauce for the crepes he was serving Prince Edward of Wales (the would-be King Edward VII) and his guests. With no time to recover, he tasted the burned sauce and discovered the flavors blended deliciously. When he served the dish, Charpentier named it Crepes Princesse. However, when the prince gently protested, Charpentier changed the name to Suzette in honor of the one female guest at the table.

      NATIONAL BEVERAGE DAY

National Beverage Day on May 6th encourages us to sit back, relax, and enjoy our favorite beverages.

Beverages come in many forms. And whether you prefer a hot beverage or a cold one, the choice is yours. Serve up a caffeinated drink poured over over ice. Make it carbonated or mix it up as a cocktail or a mocktail as the case may be. Beverages may be freshly squeezed, frozen, blended, or creamy. They can even be sweet, sour, bitter, smooth, or dry.

We drink them to cool off and to warm up. We also drink them to chill out and serve them to add sparkle to a celebration. In fact, every month on the National Day Calendar includes a beverage celebration. Although, some months celebrate more than others. While January is quite busy and raises a glass to milk, green juice, and the bloody Mary, February only celebrates Kahlua. The busiest beverage month on the calendar (so far) is July. It even hails the Dive Bars we like to frequent. Though, May doesn’t shy away from beverage celebrations, either. We just celebrated lemonade and America’s favorite beverage, orange juice, and will celebrate several more in May, too!

      NATIONAL NURSES DAY

NationalNurses Day is observed annually on May 6th. On this day, we raise awareness of all nurse contributions and commitments and acknowledge the vital role nurses play in society. This day is also the first day of National Nurses Week and is sometimes known as National RN Recognition Day.

National Nurses Week begins May 6th and ends on May 12th, which is the birthday of Florence Nightingale (May 12, 1820 – August 13, 1910). Florence Nightingale was a celebrated English, social reformer, statistician, and thefounder of modern nursing. She became well-known while taking care of the wounded soldiers during the Crimean War. Nightingale was dubbed “The Lady with the Lamp” because of her habit of making rounds at night.

I am at the rehab with hubs. Wow, what a day. The doctor appointment went well. Lost a few pounds which I was happy with. Have a few more to go before l can say done. Walking was better. Had to park in the balcony. Humidity and heat not in my favor. But I persevered. A real good outcome.

Last night I tried one not hot peach chicken wing. Out of this world. Your hubs would have enjoyed this. I put the rest in the freezer. The jalapeno bread also delicious. They added other hot peppers to make it more fun. My mouth is still feeling the effects.

Stopped at Sams for gas. No lines. No wait. They were one cent less than Costco. Hot and extreme!y humid . We will be in the 90s before the weekend. No spring. No rain.

The Heidi set above is very “Heidi” and quite pretty.

Good day in the ‘burgh. 😎🎈Lady a lot is going on in the world. Very sad about
the Cruise Ship with an outbreak on board. This is scary stuff and I am praying for
      the families affected.

I think you have a lunch date with a friend I hope you have a great time. 😎💕

Enjoy this beautiful day and I hope your rain is sweet and light.

Good afternoon in Oz. Cool, dreary day with light rain on and off. The cruise ship virus is definitely scary. I have done many cruises but this makes me question any more.👎 I’m sure sis will continue to go and call me a worrywart. She is much more laid-back than me.

No lunch this week, my friend is too busy with appointments, so we will try for next week. We want a day where we don’t have to rush to something else.😌

Pretty good game last night.🏒 Your Colorado family is beating the Minnesota family, lol!

Sending extra big hugs to you and Poppy.🤗💖

      @shoelady60,

Good Evening the night is calm and beautiful here in OZ. 😎🎈

Wow the Hockey Games are getting good oh dear. 🎈😎💕My phone is ringing
off the hook everyone is excited. May the best team win.

Lady Colorado had so much snow I had to make sure everyone was alright.
Colorado especially in the mountains and all over the State did not have much
snow this year. Oz had more snow than Colorado. Everyone in the State is doing
a happy dance because if you don’t get enough snow and rain then you can’t water
your lawns or flowers. Oh Snap! I love Colorado and i get sick every time because they
are a mile higher than Kansas and you need to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
I learned real quick what to do. 😎💕🎈

Here is a little something to relax the night away. 😎💕

Lady that ship is scary and I feel for every person on that Cruise. I feel exactly like you do.
Cool your sister will still go nothing wrong with that but that ship had better be clean
and looked over by the health dept. This thing is viral and can spread from person to person
that is the part that bothers me which means you don’t have to be on a Cruise to catch
this virus much like Covid. Shizzle!

Hey wishing you a great night and you and your friend can have a great time next week.
I have had to change plans with friends because I like to take my time and enjoy the moment.

      Sweet Dreams. 💕😎

They had to wrap her in blankets backstage every single night to stop her body from shaking. Gloria Foster was twenty-nine years old in 1963, performing in an Off-Broadway play called In White America, and her final scene as a thirteen-year-old Black girl walking into a Little Rock school left her trembling so hard the cast had to cover her like a child until she came back.
She won her first Obie for that role. Sit with what acting cost that woman.
They had to wrap her in blankets backstage every single night to bring her body back to itself. After the Little Rock scene, the trembling would start somewhere deep in her shoulders, and the only thing that quieted it was being covered, head to foot, in heavy fabric until the shaking stopped.
The year was 1963. Her name was Gloria Foster.
She was twenty-nine years old and had just moved to New York from the Midwest. The play was called In White America, and across two and a half hours she stepped into twenty-seven different characters, drawn from court records and slave narratives and newspaper clippings stretching across three centuries.
She was a woman whose husband had been killed by a mob. She was Sojourner Truth, and she was a mother burying a child.
And every night, in the final scene, she became a thirteen-year-old Black girl walking up the steps of a Little Rock school after the Supreme Court had said she could. The mob of white onlookers met her at the door, calling for her life, faces twisted with hate.
The script took the words from documented testimony, real children who had really walked those steps in 1957, and Gloria gave them her body. She let the fear of a thirteen-year-old enter her shoulders and her chest and her hands.
By the end of the scene, she was thirteen. By the time the curtain fell, she could not stop shaking.
Gloria did not act the part. The playwright Martin Duberman would say later that she embodied it, that her body would not let go of what it had just held.
The tears down her face were real. The trembling was real.
      The blankets were real.
The audience could not bear another scene after that one. Duberman and the director tried adding something else after Little Rock during rehearsals, but nothing worked.
The room was already broken open. So Little Rock became the closing scene, and Gloria became the actress who could carry that weight on her shoulders.
She won her first Obie Award. Life Magazine wrote her up across two pages.
The New York Times’ chief drama critic, Howard Taubman, said someone should write a play for her. People did.
Joseph Papp built productions around her. In 1965, she became the first Black woman ever to play Medea in New York City, a role that white women had owned for centuries.
She played Mother Courage. She played Mary Tyrone in Long Day’s Journey Into Night.
She played Madame Ranevskaya in Chekhov’s Cherry Orchard, and Clytemnestra in Agamemnon, parts that Black actresses, in 1965, in 1970, in 1975, were not supposed to be able to play.
She was, as critics put it then, majestic, full-voiced, statuesque, stunning.
She did not chase Hollywood. She did not chase fame.
She told an interviewer once that young performers were always thinking in terms of stepping stones, but she had never thought that way. The only thing she ever thought about, she said, was the next more difficult role.
Behind the work was a life very few people in those theaters knew about. She had been born in Chicago in 1933 and never knew her father.
Her mother had been hospitalized for mental illness when Gloria was small. After that, she was raised by her maternal grandparents on a farm.
Her grandmother was Elinor Sudds. Her grandfather was Clyde.
They gave her quiet, and a roof, and a place to grow into herself. That was what she carried into every classroom and every audition for the rest of her life.
At the Goodman School of Drama in Chicago, she was one of the few Black students in her class. Her teacher, Bella Itkin, refused to limit what she could play.
Itkin cast her in classical roles, the kind reserved for white actresses, and watched what happened. What happened was that a working-class girl from the South Side could speak Shakespeare like she had been born to it.
By the time she walked onto a New York stage, she was already the most prepared person in the room.
She married the actor Clarence Williams III in 1967, and they divorced in 1984. She did not remarry.
Her closest friend was Cicely Tyson, her sorority sister from Delta Sigma Theta. The two of them did not see each other often.
But they would get on the telephone, and three hours would pass like nothing. Cicely would describe those calls as the most honest conversations she had with anyone.
In 1995, Gloria came back to Broadway to play Sadie Delany, the one-hundred-and-three-year-old Black woman in Having Our Say. Her co-star was an actress named Mary Alice.
The two of them shared a stage every night at the Booth Theatre, neither of them knowing that one day Mary Alice would have to step into Gloria’s body of work, into a role written for Gloria and lit for Gloria, because Gloria would be gone.
There is a cruel detail from those years that very few people know. The actor Ruben Santiago-Hudson had begun trying to bring a revival of A Raisin in the Sun back to Broadway with Gloria as the lead, alongside himself and a young actress named Viola Davis.
He had raised $1.2 million in backing. He walked into the offices of the men who owned New York’s theaters, the same offices where decisions about which Black plays got made and which did not, and he was told no.
They said the play was not really that good. They said Gloria Foster was “too articulate.”
Three Obies. Thirty years of Shakespeare and Chekhov.
The first Black Medea in New York. Too articulate.
Santiago-Hudson would tell that story years later at her memorial, with his voice steady and his face not. He had not been able to get her on a Broadway stage in a play that was written for women like her, in a country that was still finding language for what she was.
In 1999, a film called The Matrix opened, and an entire generation of Black children met Gloria Foster for the first time in a kitchen, holding a wooden spoon, baking cookies, smoking a cigarette, telling a young man named Neo what he needed to hear and not what he wanted to hear. She played The Oracle.
The role landed the way her stage work had always landed. Whatever she touched, she filled.
By the time she came back to film The Matrix Reloaded in early 2001, her body was already failing her. She had lived with diabetes for years, and in the way diabetes works in a body that has been carrying weight for decades, it was beginning to take pieces of her quietly.
She finished most of her scenes for the second film. She did not film any for the third.
On September 29, 2001, alone in her Manhattan apartment, Gloria Foster died. The world had been reeling for eighteen days from the towers coming down, and the news of her death moved through the theater community more slowly than it should have.
Her ex-husband Clarence Williams III, the one she had divorced in 1984 and stayed friends with, was the one who told the world. He made the calls.
He gave the statement to the papers.
Cicely Tyson would say afterward that she had been planning to call Gloria a couple of days before she died. The thought had come to her clearly, the way thoughts about a friend come, and she had set it aside for later.
Something pulled her attention away. She forgot.
The phone call did not happen. Two days later, Gloria was gone.
That is the kind of grief that does not have a name. The call you meant to make.
The voice you assumed would still be there.
A memorial was held on October 15, 2001, at LuEsther Hall at the Public Theater. A small photograph of Gloria, tied to a yellow rose, sat on every seat in the auditorium.
Ruby Dee spoke. Cicely Tyson spoke.
Mary Alice spoke. Geoffrey Holder rose to his feet and called the entire room up with him for a standing ovation.
The memorial closed with a recording. It was the audio of her Little Rock scene from In White America, captured in 1963, the same scene that had broken audiences and required blankets to bring her body back to itself.
Her voice rang through that auditorium thirty-eight years after the first time she had performed it. The trembling was still in it.
When the third Matrix film came out in 2003, the directors had a problem to solve. Gloria was gone.
They wrote her out by saying that her “shell” had changed. Mary Alice would step into the role.
Shell. The word the industry chose for her body.
The same body that had needed blankets at twenty-nine, the same body the diabetes had taken at sixty-seven, the same body that had carried Sojourner Truth and Medea and Mother Courage and Sadie Delany and a thirteen-year-old girl walking up the steps of an Arkansas school.
They called it a shell. We know what it was.
The Oracle still speaks in those films, on a screen in some Black grandmother’s living room somewhere right now. The voice still works.
The wisdom still lands. The body that carried it is buried at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York, the trembling finally over, the blankets folded away, the work, every bit of it, done.

      DeBarge Lyrics
      “Rhythm Of The Night”

When it feels like the world is on your shoulders
And all of the madness has got you going crazy
It’s time to get out, step out into the street
Where all of the action is right there at your feet
Well, I know a place where we can dance the whole night away
      Underneath electric stars
Just come with me and we can shake your blues right away
You’ll be doing fine when the music starts, oh

To the beat of the rhythm of the night, dance until the morning light
Forget about the worries on your mind, you can leave them all behind
To the beat of the rhythm of the night
Oh, the rhythm of the night, oh yeah

Look out on the street now, the party’s just beginning
      The music’s playing, a celebration’s starting
Under the street lights the scene is being set
A night for romance, a night you won’t forget
So, come join the fun, this ain’t no time to be staying home
Ooh, there’s too much going on
Tonight is gonna be a night like you’ve never known
We’re gonna have a good time the whole night long

To the beat of the rhythm of the night, dance until the morning light
Forget about the worries on your mind, you can leave them all behind
To the beat of the rhythm of the night
Oh, the rhythm of the night, oh yeah

Come join the fun, this ain’t no time to be staying home
Ooh, there’s too much going on
Tonight is gonna be a night like you’ve never known
We’re gonna have a good time the whole night long

To the beat of the rhythm of the night, dance until the morning light
Forget about the worries on your mind, you can leave them all behind
To the beat of the rhythm of the night, dance until the morning light
Forget about the worries on your mind
To the beat of the rhythm of the night, (oh baby, I’m crying)
Forget about the worries on your mind
To the beat of the rhythm of the night, (oh baby)
Forget about the worries on your mind

      The music’s playing
      It’s a celebration
      The music’s playing
Everybody dance to the beat of the rhythm of the night
Forget about the worries on your mind, ’cause you can leave them all behind
To the beat of the rhythm of the night, dance until the morning light
Forget about the worries on your mind, you can leave them all behind
To the beat of the rhythm of the night…

      All Star
      Song by Smash Mouth

Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me
I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed
She was looking kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb
In the shape of an “L” on her forehead
Well, the years start comin’ and they don’t stop comin’
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground runnin’
Didn’t make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart, but your head gets dumb
So much to do, so much to see
So, what’s wrong with taking the backstreets?
You’ll never know if you don’t go (go)
You’ll never shine if you don’t glow
      Hey now, you’re an all-star
Get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star
Get the show on, get paid
(And all that glitters is gold)
Only shootin’ stars break the mold
It’s a cool place, and they say it gets colder
You’re bundled up now, wait ’til you get older
But the meteor men beg to differ
Judging by the hole in the satellite picture
The ice we skate is gettin’ pretty thin
The water’s gettin’ warm, so you might as well swim
My world’s on fire, how ’bout yours?
That’s the way I like it, and I’ll never get bored
      Hey now, you’re an all-star
Get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star
Get the show on, get paid
      (All that glitters is gold)
Only shootin’ stars break the mold
      Go for the moon
(Go, go, go) go for the moon
(Go, go, go) go for the moon
Go (go), go for the moon
      Hey now, you’re an all-star
Get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star
Get the show on, get paid
(And all that glitters is gold)
      Only shooting stars
Somebody once asked, “Could I spare some change for gas?
I need to get myself away from this place”
I said, “Yep, what a concept, I could use a little fuel myself
And we could all use a little change”
Well, the years start comin’ and they don’t stop comin’
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground runnin’
Didn’t make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart, but your head gets dumb
So much to do, so much to see
So, what’s wrong with taking the backstreets?
You’ll never know if you don’t go (go!)
You’ll never shine if you don’t glow
      Hey now, you’re an all-star
Get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star
Get the show on, get paid
(And all that glitters is gold)
Only shootin’ stars break the mold
Only shootin’ stars break the mold
      Go for the moon
      Go for the moon
      Go for the moon
This is how we do it

      All Night Long (All Night)
      Song by Lionel Richie

      Da Da, ooooh
Well, my friends, the time has come
To raise the roof and have some fun
Throw away the work to be done
Let the music play on (play on, play on, play on…)
      Everybody sing, everybody dance
      Lose yourself in wild romance
We’re going to Party, Karamu, Fiesta, forever
      Come on and sing along!
We’re going to Party, Karamu, Fiesta, forever
      Come on and sing along!
All night long (all night), All night (all night)
All night long (all night), All night (all night)
All night long (all night), All night (all night)
All night long! (all night), Ooh, yeah (all night)
People dancing all in the street
See the rhythm all in their feet
Life is good, wild and sweet
Let the music play on…(Play on, play on, play on…)
Feel it in your heart and feel it in your soul
      Let the music take control
We’re going to Party, Liming, Fiesta, forever
      Come on and sing along
We’re going to Party, Liming, Fiesta, forever
Come on and sing my song!
All night long (all night), oooh, (all night)
All night long (all night), yeaz, (all night)
All night long (all night), yeah, (all night)
All night long (all night)…(all night)
Yeah, once you get started you can’t sit down
      Come join the fun, it’s a merry-go-round
      Everyone’s dancing their troubles away
Come join our party, See how we play!
      Come on! Come on!
      Everybody dance like Jimmy
      Come on!
Tam bo li de say de moi ya
      Hey Jambo Jumbo
Way to parti o we goin’
      Oh, jambali
Tam bo li de say de moi ya
      Yeah, Jambo, jumbo
      Oh, O, O, O, yes
We’re going to have a party! (Yeah… ugh)
All night long (all night), All night, (all night)
All night long (all night), All night, (all night)
All night long (all night), All night, (all night)
      All night long (all night)…
      Everyone you meet (all night)
They’re jamming in the street (all night)
      All night long! (All night)
      Everyone you meet (all night)
They’re jamming in the street (all night)
      All night long! (All night)
      Everybody come on!
      Feel good! Feel good!
      Come on!
      Come on!
      Sing about here, everybody!
All night long (all night), All night, (all night)
All night long (all night), All night, (all night)
      Come on now
All night long (all night), All night, (all night)

    Tuesday Mantra…which will you choose?

Sometimes we have to deal with situations where people are flexing their power or their jealousy, unhappiness or their low self esteem on us or friends or people we love…and it brings us down. It makes us feel hurt and left out wondering why people lack empathy and kindness sometimes… I hope these affirmations help you see that staying happy and positive around negativity always wins and that some people and some things just aren’t worth your energy. 💜🌸💕

      CINCO DE MAYO

Cinco De Mayo’s deeply rooted history in the Franco-Mexican War influenced Mexican-Mexican American communities in the early years of the American Civil War. In the early 1860s, as the Civil War erupted, these communities took up the banner of the Cinco De Mayo celebration as a way to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy. Today, in the United States, Americans celebrate Mexican-American heritage and pride annually on May 5th.

On June 7, 2005, the United States Congress issued a Concurrent Resolution. The resolution invited the President of the United States to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe Cinco de Mayo with appropriate ceremonies and activities.

According to José Alamillo, professor of ethnic studies at Washington State University in Pullman, a 2006 study found more than 150 official events celebrating the day.

Celebrations surrounding the observance in the United States take on a significance beyond that in Mexico. They include displaying of banners and events highlighting Mexican culture, music, and regional dancing. School districts also hold special events to educate students about its historical significance. In the U.S., commercial interests the day by celebrating Mexican products and services with an emphasis on beverages, food, and music.

      NATIONAL SILENCE THE SHAME DAY

On May 5th, National Silence the Shame Day brings an opportunity to continue the conversation about mental health and wellness and erase the stigma associated with mental illness.

Mental illness, like any other health concern, is diagnosed at different stages. It may have fewer symptoms from time to time and/or impact on our daily functioning. It is also important to know that mental illness is treatable and recovery is possible.

Unlike other areas of our health care, many people don’t have an affordable or accessible routine plan of care for mental health challenges. Individuals who may have access often suffer in silence due to the stigma of being diagnosed.

National Silence the Shame Day offers education and awareness, opening up conversations about mental health, wellness, mental illness, and recovery.

      NATIONAL HOAGIE DAY

It may go by many names, but on May 5th, National Hoagie Day celebrates a hero of a sandwich!

Besides a hero, the hoagie goes by several other aliases. The sub, grinder, Italian, torpedo, or baguette are just a few of its many names. Some of those names give a hint as to how we make a hoagie, too. We cut a long Italian roll or French bread lengthwise and fill it with various meats, cheeses, vegetables, seasonings, and sauces. Pile it high with your own combination of fillings and enjoy it either hot or cold.

      NATIONAL ASTRONAUT DAY

National Astronaut Day on May 5th each year celebrates Astronauts as true heroes. The day’s mission is to inspire ALL to “reach for the stars” by sharing “out of this world” Astronaut stories and experiences.

On May 5th, 1961, Astronaut Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr. became the first American in space aboard the Freedom 7 Space capsule. The brief suborbital flight lasted 15 minutes and reached a height of 116 miles into the atmosphere. It was a milestone achievement and a trailblazing example of heroic bravery. This adventurous spirit is the essence of what National Astronaut Day is all about.

By sharing the incredible stories, experiences, and perspectives of actual Astronauts, the mission of National Astronaut Day inspires us ALL to follow our dreams. The day includes both future Astronauts and those who seek to keep their feet on the ground!

      @sheba2011

Arrived home a few minutes ago to a hot hot house. Temp was 85. Just before leaving I always shut everything down. I set the temp at 81 and will go down gradually from that point.

The doctor’s office phoned at 7″30 this morning. My appointment is tomorrow morning. Their computer AI does not handle phone calls too well. I could not get to the front desk, so thankfully, after three days, it was nice to receive the info. Then at 3:30 this afternoon as I was on my way out, the phone rang. It was t he doctor’s office stating I need to call the office. I must have spent another 45 minutes trying to get beyond their recordings. I ended up leaving two messages with the medical assistant. Not sure what is going on, but will make the appointment unless I hear something different.

I made a stop at the Farmer’s Market. Picked up a salad for me and a homemade pretzel for the receptionist. I also picked up homemade chicken wings made with fresh peaches whish is supposed to be extra hot hot. I will let you know if the house goes up in smoke. (LOL). Picked up fresh blueberry tart. Hubs enjoyed every morsel. They have a huge sale going on as I type. Guess I will return tomorrow.

Hubs was in a talkative mood tonight. He looked good. So glad I was able to see him. Sinus issues are OK. Just the lower back is giving me a problem. I think the weather will be changing. No rain in sight. Quite humid and hot. The A/C feels good. Enjoy your evening. Thanks for the fashion show. Some of those gowns were absolutely gorgeous.

Oz is a bit chilly tonight with some rain i don’t mind. I did have to turn on the heat just to

The heat is off and I am going to jump in the shower and then get under the covers. 💕
The animals are all fed and I made sure to dash across the street so my favorite cat also
eats. I am training Miss Kitty to leave other animals alone I share with them too.

    Don’t You (Forget About Me)
    Song by Simple Minds

    Hey, hey, hey, hey
    Ooh, woah
Won’t you come see about me?
I’ll be alone, dancing, you know it, baby
Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving everything inside and out and
Love’s strange, so real in the dark
Think of the tender things that we were working on
Slow change may pull us apart
When the light gets into your heart, baby
    Don’t you forget about me
    Don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t
    Don’t you forget about me
    Will you stand above me?
Look my way, never love me
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
    Down, down, down
    Will you recognize me?
Call my name or walk on by
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
    Down, down, down, down
    Hey, hey, hey, hey
    Ooh, woah
    Don’t you try and pretend
It’s my feeling we’ll win in the end
I won’t harm you or touch your defenses
    Vanity, insecurity, ah
    Don’t you forget about me
I’ll be alone, dancing, you know it, baby
    Going to take you apart
I’ll put us back together at heart, baby
    Don’t you forget about me
    Don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t
    Don’t you forget about me
    As you walk on by
    Will you call my name?
    As you walk on by
    Will you call my name?
    When you walk away
    Or will you walk away?
    Will you walk on by?
    Come on, call my name
    Will you call my name?
    I say
    La, la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
    La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
    La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
    La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
    La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
    La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
    When you walk on by
    And you call my name
    When you walk on by

      The Beatles Lyrics
      “In My Life”

      There are places I’ll remember
All my life though some have changed
      Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain

All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new

Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

In my life I love you more

      NATIONAL STAR WARS DAY

May the Fourth be with you each year on National Star Wars Day. Or is it, “May the force be with you?” It all depends on whether you like using puns or not.

Thousands of Star Wars enthusiasts celebrate this day each year with parties and celebrations around the nation. If you are a fan, then National Star Wars Day allows you to dress like your favorite character, say your favorite lines from the series and catch a movie or read a book.

Star Wars fans didn’t first introduce the often-quoted phrase on May 4th. It was 1979, and Britain elected the first female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. On May 4th, the day she took office, the Conservative Party placed an advertisement in The London Evening News, which read, “May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations.”

Star Wars creator, George Lucas, was asked during a 2005 interview on a German news TV channel to say the famous sentence “May the Force Be with You.” Upon doing so, the interpreter interpreted the sentence into German as Am4 Mai sind wir bei Ihnen (On May 4 we are with you). TV Total captured this and aired it on May 18, 2005.

      BIRD DAY

Established by Charles Almanzo Babcock, Bird Day was established as the first holiday in the United States in celebration of birds.

Interesting was his position as the Oil City superintendent of schools, in 1894, and in that role, removed from bird conservation entirely. Babcock’s work was intended as an advance to bird conservation.

      MELANOMA MONDAY

Melanoma Monday is a part of an awareness campaign during National Melanoma Month . Each year on the first Monday in May, we are raising awareness about skin cancer in hopes of reducing melanoma diagnosis.

Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. On Melanoma Monday we are spreading the word about skin health, sun safety, tanning prevention, and skin cancer screenings. While melanoma and other skin cancers are not 100% preventable, there are ways to reduce your risk. We are on a mission to provide resources and information to bring awareness to melanoma, and hopefully reduce the number of melanoma diagnosis.

      NATIONAL RENEWAL DAY

Observed annually on May 4th, National Renewal Day provides an opportunity for new beginnings.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, renewal is defined as”the state of being made new, fresh, or strong again: the state of being renewed.”

The day has been correctly placed in the spring when plants are sprouting. The day strives to reinvigorate us after a long winter. Whether we choose to refresh our souls or replace our old rugs with new, we are charged with setting to work polishing up our state of being.

Where the house might need to be infused with a little fresh air, our friendships might need some reconnection to renew them. Has the romance gone stale? Add a spark and bring some new life to it. Has the diet seen better days? Find a little color to add to it, and you might find a little pep in your step to renew yourself.

Whatever your approach to this day is, remain confident and National Renewal Day will be a success.

      NATIONAL ORANGE JUICE DAY

On May 4th National Orange Juice Day recognizes America’s most popular breakfast drink. Orange juice holds a large margin over second-place apple juice, too. People have been waking up to a glass of orange juice for many years and enjoying the health benefits it gives them.

One 8 ounce serving of orange juice has 124 mg of vitamin C and also supplies potassium, thiamine, and folate. That little bit of sunshine in the morning can add a boost to your day. Get your orange juice fresh squeezed, bottled or in concentrated form in the freezer section. You can also enjoy orange juice blends for delicious combinations.

The United States is second only to Brazil in the production of orange juice, and they’re second only to Canda in consumption.

Another excellent way to add orange juice to your diet if you are watching your sugar intake is to include it as an ingredient in a recipe. Orange juice adds great flavor to smoothies, whole-grain waffles or french toast.

      NATIONAL DAY OF REASON

National Day of Reason is observed each year on 4th of May. The observance originated in 2003 in response to the perceived unconstitutional National Day of Prayer. According to the organizers of the day, the National Day of Prayer, “violates the First Amendment of The United States Constitution because it asks federal, state and local government entities to set aside tax dollar supported time and space to engage in religious ceremonies.”

      NATIONAL CANDIED ORANGE PEEL DAY

National Candied Orange Peel Day is observed annually on May 4th. Candied Orange Peels are a boiled, sliced and sugared treat.

Chefs and bakers like using them to add bright flavor to dishes as well as beautiful garnishes. Often used in holiday baking such as cookies and fruitcakes, they also add flavor to other foods as well. Add them to granola, tarts, and other pastries. You can also enjoy them as a snack on their own.

Dip the candied orange peel in milk or dark chocolate for a decadent candy. Not only is it delicious but it’s also a fanciful gift anyone would appreciate.

      NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CUSTARD DAY

National Chocolate Custard Day on May 3rd each year celebrates a delicious pudding-like dessert enjoyed by many.

Pastry chefs and home cooks alike make custards by blending eggs with milk or cream and heating the mixture either on the stove or in the oven. Since custards come in a variety of consistencies, you can choose the one that best fits your dessert preference. For example, they range from a thin liquid-like a crème Anglaise to a firm creme brulee.

Custard is also a versatile dessert. When paired with pastries and baked goods, custard can be layered and piped. It also can be the main filling of a pie or a tart. Substitute a frosting with a thick custard between layers of pound cake or create a delightful parfait with custard, angel food cake, and custard. Pipe custard into dainty cupcakes, add a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkles for flair.

While chocolate custards are delicious on their own, they also fill eclairs, creme puffs, and doughnuts, too

      @sheba2011

The rain helped with the sinus and migraine issues. But the earth is still dried. Next rain chance is next weekend and I am hoping we will have more drops sooner.

Today I had some sinus issues and had to resort to the Benedryl. It worked, but I fell asleep and by the time I awakened, it was too late to see hubs. I used the opportunity to recycle some things and found other things for the garbage pickup. Everything is now at the curb and ready for pickup tomorrow. I also had a delivery yesterday and opened the boxes while doing other chores. I also found time to check the reviews on a few of the construction firms that do remodeling. I was totally surprised and shocked at what I read. One firm kept contacting a potential client two or three times per day while they were making a decision. Those phone calls kept the client from contacting the business and went with someone else. Reading further, others chimed in as well. Funny, their website were all five starred reviews. I am thinking that a handyman may be the right call. Best part, they are local. And, our health insurance people will be overseeing the reno to makae sure that hubs will be able to move around without a hassle.

O;ur evening is cloudy. No moon or stars in the sky. Loads of clouds. A little on the windy side. But the humidity is down and so are the temps. Nothing to complain about. Have a great evening.

    Andy Williams Lyrics
    “Moon River”

Moon river, wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you’re going, I’m going your way

Two drifters, off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after the same rainbow’s end, waiting, round the bend
My Huckleberry Friend, Moon River, and me

Moon river, wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you’re going, I’m going your way

Two drifters, off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after that same rainbow’s end, waiting, round the bend
My Huckleberry Friend, Moon River, and me

      KENTUCKY DERBY

The Kentucky Derby is a tradition that takes place on the first Saturday in May.
Its long and storied history brings out a taste for mint juleps, colorful sun hats and a thrill for the race. The jockeys and horses will prepare for the day at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The first in the Triple Crown series, The Kentucky Derby will be followed The Preakness Stakes and The Belmont Stakes. While both The Preakness and The Belmont are the older races, The Derby has run continuously since its inception in 1875.

The beautiful horses and the bustling crowds under the spring sunshine make for an exciting day of racing. Add to the months of training and any money at stake, and the nervous butterflies of the event

      NATIONAL START SEEING MONARCHS DAY

Each year on the first Saturday in May, National Start Seeing Monarchs Day raises awareness to preserve the Monarch butterfly and prevent it from being added to the endangered species list.

The Monarch butterfly is a milkweed butterfly. It may be the most familiar North American butterfly because its wings feature an easily recognizable orange and black pattern. Monarchs typically reach 3 1/2 to 4″ in size. In the fall, they migrate south to warmer climates. In the spring, they return further north.

      NATIONAL TRUFFLE DAY

National Truffle Day on May 2 serves up a deliciously sweet treat and places the chocolate truffle in the spotlight.

      N. Petruccelli of Chambery, France, is believed to be the inventor of the chocolate truffle in December 1895. Truffles became much more prevalent in 1902 after the Prestat Chocolate Shop opened in London. In fact, Prestat still sells “Napoleon III” truffles made from the original recipe.

Traditionally, chocolatiers make this sweet confection with a chocolate ganache center coated in chocolate, icing, cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or coconut. Oftentimes, they may fill the truffle with other yummy surprises. Some candy makers include cream, melted chocolate, caramel, nuts, fruit, nougat, fudge, toffee, mint, marshmallow, or liqueur.

      NATIONAL HOMEBREW DAY

The first Saturday in May recognizes National Homebrew Day. Every year the American Homebrewers Association holds the Big Brew to celebrate the practice of homebrewing by bringing homebrewers together to make the same official recipes for the side-by-side competition.

There are different breeds of homebrewers. Those who hold to time-honored traditions and those who push the edge of flavor and experimentation. Both express their personality with barley, hops, yeast and a little something else.

Homebrewers dabble in a variety of styles. Where you enjoy lagers, ales, ciders, or mead, there’s a category for you. Discover your favorite homebrew and join the competition!

And, whatever your personal flair – honey, and ginger, or hoppy and dark – if you are a homebrewer, this celebration is for you.

Arrived home a few minutes ago after visiting hubs. He was sound asleep and normally I could wake him, but not this time. Not sure if his meds wer changed or it was something else. I arrived around 4:30pm, before dinner was served. As you know, I have not been able to visit every day due to sinus and sinus migraine problems. Thankfully, I have a doctor appointment this week and maybe something can be done. He finally stirred around 6pm and ate his dinner very slowly. What I didn’t mention is that our phone rang around 7:10 AM and I answered after the last ring and made a call. Seems hubs had a bloody nose and it was caught in time. But, the RN on duty needs to inform the family no matter what. Unfortunately, I could not go to the Rehab that early, plus I had just made it to bed after a terrible night of sinus issues and the usual migraine. I stopped at Culvers on the way to rehab. I picked up two colby sandwiches, small order of fries, small salad and two frozen vanilla custards.Just before leaving, the sky turned black and moments later some rain and then lightning and thunder. I stayed home until it passed. Headache is gone. More the same tomorrow. I hope. That is a brief nutshell of today’s scenes. I’m very tired.

It is cold today, high of 43. I think I told you hubs is not golfing tomorrow. It will be 34 at his tee off time.🥶 It takes a lot for him to cancel a round of golf and freezing is one of them. Stayed in and did laundry. Going to cook something in the oven to warm up the kitchen.

Mom and sis decided to drive to Atlantic City for four days. They are leaving next Sunday, Mother’s Day, and coming home Thursday. It is not going to be summer weather so not sure what mom will do other than gamble.🎰 Sis loves to gamble so she will be happy but it may be too cold on the boardwalk for mom.

Tonight I most likely will drink hot chocolate instead of wine, lol!☕ Big hugs to you, Poppy and all the neighborhood critters. You are like Maria von Trapp with her kids!

Her mother died before she could remember her face.
Her father died while she was still a child.
The guardian who raised her was cold, faithless, and had little patience for a girl who was, by every account, a lot.
Her name was Maria Augusta Kutschera.
You probably know her by another name.
She was born on a moving train on January 26, 1905 — arriving in a hurry, as if she already knew she had no time to waste.
Raised without religion. Raised without much warmth.
And yet somehow, she found both.
She found faith listening to a Jesuit priest speak in Vienna. She found peace in the Austrian mountains she climbed alone as a teenager, breathing in something she couldn’t yet name. At nineteen, she walked into the Nonnberg Benedictine Convent in Salzburg and told them she wanted to give her life to God.
      The Abbess had other ideas.
In 1926, Maria was sent — temporarily, everyone assumed — to tutor the sick daughter of a widowed naval captain named Georg von Trapp. He had seven children. He had lost his wife four years earlier. He was quiet, disciplined, and deeply principled.
Maria was loud, impulsive, and full of barely-contained energy.
She was supposed to stay a few months.
She stayed for the rest of her life.
They married in 1927. But here is the part the movie left out:
Maria later admitted she didn’t marry Georg because she had fallen in love with him.
She married him because she loved his children.
The love between them came later — quietly, the way real love often does.
Together they had three more children, bringing the family to ten. They sang together — folk songs, madrigals, sacred music — not because it made a beautiful story, but because a banking collapse had taken most of what they had, and music was what remained. In 1936, they won the Salzburg Festival competition and Europe began to take notice.
      Then came March 1938.
      Hitler’s forces marched into Austria.
Georg von Trapp was a decorated war hero. The Nazis wanted him.
      He said no.
The family understood what that refusal would cost them.
They packed what they could carry and left — not over the Alps on foot as the famous film shows, but by train to Italy, then to London, then across the Atlantic. By late 1938, they were standing in America with their voices, their faith, and each other.
They settled in Vermont. They toured. They built a life from scratch in a country that had no reason to know their name yet — and learned it anyway.
In 1942, they bought a farm in Stowe, Vermont. Maria said the mountains looked like home.
      Georg died in 1947.
      Maria kept going.
She wrote her memoir. She built the Trapp Family Lodge with her own hands and decisions. And when a Broadway producer came knocking and later Hollywood followed, she signed away the rights to her life story.
      For $9,000.
      Hollywood made millions.
When someone pointed that out, Maria shrugged it off. She believed the story would give people hope. She thought that was worth more than a bigger check.
      She was right.
When an interviewer once told her that Julie Andrews had played her so sweetly and perfectly, Maria laughed out loud.
“They showed me as such a goody goody,” she said. “That was not really me at all.”
And maybe that’s what makes the real Maria von Trapp so worth remembering.
She wasn’t the glowing, graceful woman on the screen.
She was sharper. Funnier. Harder to impress. More stubborn. More human.
She was a girl nobody planned for, born on a train going somewhere fast, who lost almost everything before she was old enough to understand what she had — and still managed to build a life so extraordinary that the whole world eventually sat down to watch it.
Maria von Trapp died on March 28, 1987. She was 82 years old.
She is buried on the grounds of the Trapp Family Lodge, in Stowe, Vermont — in the mountains that looked like home.
The hills were alive for her.
      They always were.
And because she and Georg said no in 1938 — quietly, firmly, without hesitation — their children grew up free.
That part was never just a movie.
      That part was real.
