HONOR OUR LGBT ELDERS DAY

Honor Our LGBT Elders Day on May 16 recognizes the thousands of people in the LGBT community who have paved the way for access and social acceptance. Today, take the opportunity to explore, learn and support equality for all LGBT people.

According to a 2016 Gallup Report, nearly 9 million people identify as an LGBT elder in the United States. These older than average adults face more obstacles than any other age group. Discrimination, social stigma and isolation are among the most common forms of problems LBGT elders face on a daily basis. However, older LGBT citizens are often overlooked when care is needed.

Learning the history helps educate and develop an understanding of LGBT the struggles and triumphs past and present.

NATIONAL BARBECUE DAY

Each year on May 16 we celebrate National Barbecue Day. Whether you grill at home or grab some takeout, you will find Americans across the country enjoying an assortment of mouthwatering barbeque (BBQ) flavors and sauces.

NATIONAL MIMOSA DAY

National Mimosa Day on May 16 gets its name from the Mimosa, a yellow flowering plant. This simple mixture of orange juice and champagne or sparkling wine resembles those flowers in color, however, the flavor adds a kick to most any brunch!

No matter the celebration, mimosas are served up in tall champagne glasses. They turn basic buffets and summer brunches into a festive occasion. You also don’t have to break the bank to make them. Fill the glasses half full with your favorite sparkling wine (it doesn’t have to be expensive champagne) and top it off with chilled orange juice. Garnish with an orange slice, and you’re all set.

Overnight guests will be delighted when you greet them with mimosas and an egg bake you prepared the night before. Or perhaps you’ll heat up the waffle maker. Whatever you serve, the morning will be a hit.

ARMED FORCES DAY

Armed Forces Day on the third Saturday in May pays tribute to the military personnel serving in the United States Armed Forces. The celebration takes place each year during Armed Forces Week.

The United States Military is composed of six branches, including the Army, Airforce, Space Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. As of 2019, more than 1.3 million active-duty service members are stationed in the United States and around the world. An additional 800,000 reservists stand ready in the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. The holiday unites the country behind the men and women who currently serve in the United States military.

NATIONAL CLASSIC MOVIE DAY

Today is May 16 and we are celebrating National Classic Movie Day by reminiscing about the movies we have seen on the big screen. Grab some popcorn, a drink, and find a cozy chair to relax in as we celebrate National Classic Movie Day.

National Classic Movie Day presents an opportunity to celebrate the film industry and put spotlight on iconic movies that remain favorites through the years. We are using today’s National Day on May 16 to remember stories on the big screen that became a legacy by shaping culture.

What do we consider a classic movie? Many critics define a classic movie as any movie that is memorable or makes an impact on society. A true classic movie impacts pop culture, influences society, and remains a part of our lives. In fact, a classic movie is one that has or will withstand the test of time and remain memorable through generations.

NATIONAL DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR YOUR NEIGHBOR DAY

You can never fail when following the Golden Rule “love your neighbor as yourself.” National Do Something Good For Your Neighbor Day on May 16 encourages each of us to take a moment during our interaction with others and ask ourselves, how would I like to be treated right now?

A neighbor is defined as:

a person who lives near another.

a person or thing that is near another.

one’s fellow human being.

From there, you will know how to proceed in a better way to treat neighbors around you at the moment at hand. Our neighbors are precious, and it is important to show them gratitude at every opportunity. This day is a reminder that we are all neighbors and should treat each other with love and respect.

NATIONAL LOVE A TREE DAY | MAY 16

National Love a Tree Day on May 16 celebrates the joys of life provided by trees. Whether you love reading in the shade or taking a bite out of a fresh fruit pie, National Love a Tree Day encourage everyone to get outside and enjoy a tree. Of course, planting trees for future generations to love is beneficial too.

NATIONAL PIERCING DAY

National Piercing Day on May 16 Day promotes piercing. Whether you have your ears pierced or your nose and lip, this day celebrates the unique choices people are entitled to make for them and only them!

In times past, pierced ears were about the limits of what we once saw; today the number one type of piercing is the nose/nostril, and quite common. Yes body piercing has increased in popularity, its history dates back to biblical times.

Piercing the lobe of the ear is thought to be the oldest form of body piercing. However, it is by no means the only form of ancient body piercing art. Not only is it considered an artistic expression but in many cultures, piercing holds great meaning in religious ceremonies. The practice of body piercing also has been shown to be an effective medical treatment for some ailments, such as migraines.

NATIONAL SEA MONKEY DAY

On May 16 each year, many of us celebrate fond childhood memories for National Sea Monkey Day. As we look back to our aquariums filled with these magical little creatures that hatched and grew before our eyes.

NATIONAL LEARN TO SWIM DAY

National Learn to Swim Day on the third Saturday in May is dedicated to educating parents and children about water safety. Before Memorial Day Weekend and the start of summer, it presents the perfect opportunity for families to learn the importance and benefits of learning to swim.

NATIONAL BIOGRAPHER’S DAY

On May 16 honors National Biographer’s Day as a day to commemorate the anniversary of the first meeting of Samuel Johnson, an English writer, and his biographer James Boswell in London, England on May 16, 1763. Dr. Johnson was a famous biographer, playwright, poet, moralist, essayist, literary critic, editor, and lexicographer.

On May 16th we celebrate National Coquilles Saint Jacques Day. This delicious food holiday is your reminder to try this tasty dish on a day you may not think about any other time of the year!

Lots of good things to celebrate today. May 16th was my MIL’s birthday. This was always a crazy time for me. Two mother’s birthdays, two Mother’s Days and an anniversary all within 2-1/2 weeks, sheesh!😮 After so many years, I was running out of gifts to buy.

Not a good day to spray the weeds and grass in our planter. Very windy, hot and humid. Will try again tomorrow. Meanwhile I did tackle the laundry and dryer. Next on the list is back to the KP.

Didn’t see hubs today. I actually needed to tackle some things here before deciding on the bathroom remodel. I am still working on the clutter and the empty boxes are becoming very handy. In a few days I will be contacting the people in charge of the bazaar for December. I have tons of things Once the kitchen is organized will tackle the master badroom & bath. Hope to get the spraying done before the heat, humidity and the UV take over.

Sheba, yes, many Lizards in the yard. Baby ones also. I think they are territorial.
Hubs tried to pet them a few times and they make this arm pumping motion to try and scare him off. I won’t touch them. We also used to have a lot of black widows around the exterior but I haven’t seen them this year. The Doves are a pair so yesterday one flew off and I could see the mate staring me down from a Palm Tree farther away. Taking out the trash is causing a stir…lol.

I’m with you and Shoelady on the Pasta. Love the Pasta la Vista! Had some last night. Maybe we all had Pasta on Wed then?

NATIONAL APPLE PIE DAY

National Apple Pie Day is America’s favorite dessert and is observed annually on May 13. This food holiday is not only delicious, it’s one of the oldest traditional foods everyone serves at every holiday!

The first apple pie recipe printed was in England in 1381. The list of ingredients included good apples, good spices, figs, raisins, pears, saffron, and coffyn (a type of pastry crust).

While the apple pie existed well before the Pilgrims landed on the eastern shores of what is now The United States, Americans wax poetic about how American apple pie is. The phrase “as American as apple pie” has been around for more than 100 years.

During the turn of the 20th century when whole toasted cereals were becoming the ‘health food’ fad, pie gained a bad reputation. Apple pie saved the day of sorts, being more nutritious than other pies according to some.

Teddy Roosevelt was impressed to have a taste of home when he was served an American apple pie while traveling in Africa.

Soldiers during World War II were often quoted they were fighting “for Mom and apple pie.” In 1970, advertisers used the patriotic connection with a commercial jingle “Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet.”

NATIONAL CROUTON DAY

National Crouton Day on May 13th recognizes a tasty topping that shouldn’t be overlooked. Out goal today is to show you.

Many of our words for bread-related foods come from the French and for good reason. The French love bread. Croutons are no different. The French word croûte means crust. Croutons are often made from day-old bread which has been cut into cubes and seasoned with herbs, oil, or butter. The bread is then either toasted in the oven or tossed in a hot pan until crunchy.

We’re probably most familiar with croutons on our salads. And when we add croutons to our salads, it’s a bit of celebration – a crunch celebration. Each flavorful, crunchy bite adds to our crispy, enjoyment.

NATIONAL RECEPTIONISTS’ DAY

Each year National Receptionists’ Day falls on the second Wednesday in May as a day to give recognition to receptionists and the valuable contributions they make to the companies where they work.

CHILDREN OF FALLEN PATRIOTS DAY

Every year on May 13th, we observe Children of Fallen Patriots Day to honor the children who have lost parents in military conflict. This day is dedicated to raising awareness of the sacrifices these children endure in the wake of their parents’ deaths. Since its inception, the day serves as a reminder of the ongoing support needed to help these families move forward.

Although not officially recognized as a national day of remembrance, since 2014, governors from 27 states and the District of Columbia have issued proclamations to observe the day. Notably, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Hawaii Governor David Ige have expressed their commitment to honoring these children, highlighting a collective effort to recognize their loss.

NATIONAL FROG JUMPING DAY

Observed each year on May 13, National Frog Jumping Day is a favorite National Day for both young and old alike. Let’s jump right into a little history about frog jumping!

In 1865, Mark Twain published his first short story, Jim Smiley and His Jumping Frog. Later, he changed the name and published it as The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. This same story also had a third title, The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.

The current frog jumping record was set in 1986 by Rosie the Ribeter, who jumped 21 feet, 5-3/4 inches.

While fans of Mark Twain, or perhaps the Calaveras County Fair, might have you believe frog jumping competitions only happen in Calaveras County, that’s just not true. They happen throughout the country and with more frequency than one might expect. Frog jumping contests happened in other states and municipalities in 1865 and the events take place across borders in the last century and this one, too. You might even know of one where you live, say in Michigan or Florida or Idaho.

However, we might have to concede, the most well-known might be the Calaveras County Frog Jumping Contest if for no other reason than Mark Twain wrote a story about it, and the author became well-known and loved for his stories.

Stopped at the Farmer’s Market today. Definitely had sticker shock. Within the past two weeks the prices have more than doubled. Hubs keeps asking for apples. They were over $3/lb. However, Dragon Fruit remained at $2.99/lb. I have a feeling that local fruit and veggies will remain at a decent price. However, bananas were $.60/lb. I did manage to purchase the blueberry tart for hubs. He enjoyed every last morsel.

Falling asleep at the computer really did a number on me this time. I was too zonked to drive. This taught me a huge lesson. Better to shut down the computer early. There is another day to read whatever.

There was a 51% chance for rain around 4 pm. The clouds were huge and they were dark. Both East and West had signs for something. That something never materialized. Next chance is Saturday and Sunday. Both have a 55% chance for rain and thunderstorms. Monday looks like the better of all days with 85%. However, too often, these seem to fizzle out. So we shall see.

Hubs had a new blanket on his bed tonight. Unfortunately, it wasn'[t his. Luckily I have pictures of the one that is supposed to be on his bed. I hope I can get to the Rehab early tomorrow so I can speak with the new Social Worker. Seems to be a huge turnorver again. Not as many aides or RNs. Thankfully, the one I like is hanging in there. There is an ad for a cook. All the person needs is a background in cooking like at a fast food restaurant. I surmise there is no nutritionist on duty. T’hat’s a huge question. Cannot wait until I find someone to redo the bathrooms. Notice I pluralized it this time. I have decided if the price is right to redo the master as well. Getting rid of the desk could open the space more and would give hubs more room for the wheelchair. It’s just a thought, but could be doable.

Sheba, Hello! Hope your Mothers Day was wonderful! I know it was.
I cooked a little bit today. The mosquitoes are here and apparently hungry. We have never had them before the last few years. I keep a non toxic spray by me and spritz when I see one. My son has a zapper upstairs now. I always keep the house open so maybe I’ll stop for a bit.
We also have a lot of Lizards in the yard I tossed 2 towels outside to dry and they love it. They sit on the highest point and create tunnels under it so now I can’t move them. I’ll feel bad.
The 2 Doves are hanging around as well.

National Sapphire Segulah Day on May 12 is a day of gratitude for single parents of special needs children to remind them their service and sacrifices of love are seen, appreciated, and not in vain.

NATIONAL FIBROMYALGIA AWARENESS DAY

Symptoms may come and go, lasting a few minutes, an hour, a day, a week, a month, or a year. While there is no cure for fibromyalgia, a variety of treatments and therapies focus on reducing the amount and frequency of pain. They also aim to improve sleep. NATIONAL LIMERICK DAY

The day also celebrates the limerick poem. Limerick poems were popularized by Edward Lear’s book “Book of Nonsense” in 1846. A limerick is a very short, humorous, nonsense poem. NATIONAL ODOMETER DAY

National Odometer Day on May 12th each year provides an opportunity to learn a little bit about the odometer.

An odometer is an instrument that indicates the distance traveled by a vehicle. It may be electronic, mechanical or a combination of both. The word odometer comes from the Greek words hodos meaning path or gateway and metron, meaning measure. In some countries, an odometer is called a mileometer, kilometer, or tripometer.

Odometers were first developed in the 1600s for wagons and other horse-drawn vehicles to measure distances traveled. Arthur P. and Charles H. Warner of Beloit, Wisconsin developed the first odometer for the automobile which appeared in 1903 and was patented as the Auto-Meter.

The brothers would also patent other items including a tachometer, paper making machine, electric brake, and power clutch. At one point their business, Stewart-Warner Speedometer corporation developed a thermometer for the motor. However, they faced a lawsuit for patent infringement which they ultimately lost.

Arthur Warner was one of the earliest pilots in America. His engineering curiosity led him to assemble and eventually fly a Curtiss Pusher airplane.

While technology has changed greatly since 1903, the odometer continues to track how far we have traveled. It also tells us how far we go in a single trip. Other gauges monitor fuel consumption and oil pressure, speed, and RPMs.

So It was pretty miserable for me.Tried my best to be happy.It was cold and snowy but beautiful at the same time.Just came back from NC and it was amazing visiting my son it was so much fun ,love it down there.Such a beautiful state.Take care sweetie love talking now and then.I’m in the south suburbs of Chicago and I have moving on the brain.Taxes are pathetic down here.

Here’s one for the record books. After posting last night , fell sound asleep at the computer sitting upright. Awoke, thinking it was midnight. It was 6:30am. Nothing accomplished today. I am now getting ready to see hubs. Wonder where I will find him???

Good afternoon in Oz. We have a nice day, rain coming in tomorrow. The extended forecast shows high 80s a couple days next week. Last night was in the 30s. Again, we will go from the furnace running straight to the A/C.🥶🔥 We do not have four seasons anymore.

Having lunch tomorrow with my friend for her birthday last week. She’s a pasta person like me so we will be doing Italian.🍝

I do not watch what others do all of this is in my head which makes it easy to do for me.
I never stop typing and putting the images up I just make things up as I go along. I can
do this in my sleep because it is all me. 😎🎈😘 I have a certain amount of time when I
can do this thread so I make the best of it and it depends on what is going on in my life.
I blend a lot of HSN so it seems effortless some images are not easy to do but I manage
to do whatever I want. 💕😎 I can’t do what others do in twitter verse I think I would get
ill I know exactly who I am. 😎💕🎈

Oodie I have never been on Instagram, Twitter or any social media. I only watch Utube for
interesting places to visit. I just started doing that a couple years ago. My music I have never

Finally starting to make some progress. I started spraying the weeds and grass inside the front planter that goes from one end of the house to the other. I have decided to use Floridian plants which will have a higher tolerance for the heat, full sun and lack of rain. I am looking at all kinds of possibilities. I also want to try planting a coconut. This should be an interesting endeavor.

I was with hubs today. Stopped at Culvers for their frozen custard. Purchased two one scoops and he ended up eating both. What was interesting upon my arrival was that he was in the dining room. He had finished the main course and was eating carrot cake. I have no idea where it came from, but he was enjoying every bite. I was impressed. No coughing. He actually is learning to eat slowly.

I am in awe of what you do with your thread on a daily basis. Have awonderful Tuesday.

Oz is around 75 degrees and I hope your area is about the same. My family in Colorado
had pure snow last week and they were so happy. The State was dry for the winter season.
What can happen if there is not enough snow or rain they can’t water their grass of plants
because of a water shortage. I have never heard of everyone in the State being so happy. 💕

Hey we both know snow can be a pain in some States and a blessing in other Colorado is
one of those others. 😘😎
