This is number 34 out of the of the series.
I created and started this thread 12 years ago. 😎🎈

I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. ✨😎

I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. 🌹✨😎I have been shopping and posting on HSN since the late
90’s 😎I have wonderful memories from the HSN we all know and love.

      NATIONAL CHEESE LOVER’S DAY

On National Cheese Lover’s Day, don’t feel bleu, throw a feta or act capriciously. January 20th is a gouda day to kummin over and have some cheddar or asiago or fontina!

There is no firm evidence of how humans discovered cheese making. But legend tells us it was likely that someone created the first cheese by chance. Thousands of years ago, people transported milk and stored it in sheep’s stomachs. Left to sit a few days, the proteins would separate into curds and whey. From there, preserving the solids with salt may have seemed a logical next step. Salt was a highly valued preservative in ancient times.

The earliest record of cheese making dates back to 5,500 BCE in what is now Poland. Today there are over 1,400 varieties of cheese.

Valentino Garavani, the last of the great 20th-century couturiers and a designer who defined the image of royalty in a republican age for all manner of princesses — crowned, deposed, Hollywood and society — died on Monday at his home in Rome. He was 93.

Remembering Audrey Hepburn who left us on this day in 1993 ❤
“You can be the most beautiful person in the world and everybody sees light and rainbows when they look at you, but if you yourself don’t know it, all of that doesn’t even matter. Every second that you spend on doubting your worth, every moment that you use to criticize yourself; is a second of your life wasted, is a moment of your life thrown away. It’s not like you have forever, so don’t waste any of your seconds, don’t throw even one of your moments away.”

Good morning back to you. Guess I am a wee bit nervous. I have labs today. And since my physician retired, I see his replacement. Not sure of his replacement, but will do some research and may find someone better.

I did not see hubs today. Spent the day trying to see if our contractor took a look see on our home North. I just hope that the damage is not too extensive. I am looking for another remodeler to finish the bathroom for hubs. I have not heard from the owner and have made several phone calls. I will be contacting people this week and I do have someone in mind and hope they can make some improvements. Even after I explained about the shower curtain, nothing was done concerning was addressed concerning water spills from the shower on to the flooring. The owner listened but did not tell the contractor that my hubs is confined to a wheel chair. Pipes could have been removed in both locations to extend the shower floor I will see if a correction can be made without too much of an additional expense.

Hope you have a great Wednesday. Our warm up starts today. 80s maybe over the weekend. Then another cold front next week. I also purchased the same robe as you. I wore mine to bed and it was like a blanket. So very comfy. Nice, warm feeling.

Very cold, running from the car to a store my fingers were red. A little warmer tomorrow and Thursday. High on Saturday is 12 and we may get another snow storm by Sunday, ugh.🥶❄️

Did my running around, bought some soup from the Knights of Columbus so that was dinner.🍲 Another busy day tomorrow.

Thanks for the shout out – if only they could do that for the rest of the season.🏒

    If I Can Dream
    Song by Elvis Presley

There must be lights burning brighter somewhere
Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue
If I can dream of a better land
Where all my brothers walk hand in hand
Tell me why, oh why, oh why can’t my dream come true
    Oh why
There must be peace and understanding sometime
Strong winds of promise that will blow away the doubt and fear
If I can dream of a warmer sun
Where hope keeps shining on everyone
Tell me why, oh why, oh why won’t that sun appear
    We’re lost in a cloud
    With too much rain
    We’re trapped in a world
    That’s troubled with pain
But as long as a man
    Has the strength to dream
He can redeem his soul and fly
Deep in my heart there’s a trembling question
Still I am sure that the answer, answer’s gonna come somehow
Out there in the dark, there’s a beckoning candle, yeah
And while I can think, while I can walk
While I can stand, while I can talk
    While I can dream
    Oh, please let my dream
    Come true
    Right now
Let it come true right now
    Oh yeah

      NATIONAL IMAGINATION DAY

January 19 is National Imagination Day to celebrate the playground of the mind and the power of using your imagination to create endless ideas.

Everyone has a little spark inside of their mind where endless possibilities meet between creativity and reality. Where imagination paints a picture of an unseen idea, bringing exciting possibilities to the forefront of our mind. For many people, using their imagination is what drives their creative thinking to help them thrive and excel. So, what is so special about using your imagination and why is it important?

Whether we realize it or not, our brain is a creative organ that runs on concepts and ideas. We fuel it with new and exciting thoughts created from our imagination and allow our minds to run wild. Learning to embrace our imagination feeds our thinking process and encourages our imaginative mind to never stop learning. The more you use your imagination, the stronger your brain becomes.

The moment Dolly Parton walks into a story, the world feels brighter. Today, that light shines even stronger as we celebrate her 80th birthday and a life that changed music forever.
From humble beginnings to global icon, Dolly turned honesty, heart, and hard work into songs that feel like home. She made people laugh, cry, and believe in kindness when the world needed it most.
At 80, Dolly is still shining, still giving, and still reminding us that being yourself is the greatest gift of all. Happy birthday to a true diamond in a rhinestone world. 💎

      Larger Than Life
      Song by Backstreet Boys ‧

      I may run and hide
When you’re screamin’ my name, alright
But let me tell you now
There are prices to fame, alright
All of our time spent in flashes of light
All you people can’t you see, can’t you see
How your love’s affecting our reality
      Every time we’re down
      You can make it right
And that makes you larger than life
      Looking at the crowd
And I see your body sway, c’mon
Wishin’ I could thank you in a different way, c’mon
‘Cause all of your time spent keeps us alive
All you people can’t you see, can’t you see
How your love’s affecting our reality
      Every time we’re down
      You can make it right
And that makes you larger than life
All of your time spent keeps us alive
All you people can’t you see, can’t you see
How your love’s affecting our reality
      Every time we’re down
      You can make it right
And that makes you larger than life
      Yeah, every time we’re down
Yeah, you can make it right
Yeah, and that’s what makes you larger than life
All you people can’t you see, can’t you see
How your love’s affecting our reality
      Every time we’re down
      You can make it right
      And that makes you larger
      That makes you larger

“We can figure something else out, ok?”
Each just over 30 years old at the time and 8 years into our relationship, the Great Recession stole everything we had been working for our entire lives up to that point

      @oodiebom,

Good day on the Gulf Coast of Florida. 🎈💕😎Oodie I left your Birthday Greetings
at the top because I want your husband to see it you had mentioned that in your post
      from last night.

I am so glad you liked it. I knew you and Ethel Merman celebrated the day. 💕🎈😎
I will never forget as I worked with her a long time ago and wore her fabulous Mink
Coat we had so much fun. What a woman she seemed like my grandmother backstage
and when I went into the audiences the lady backstage was not the same she was a power
house on stage and blew the audience away with her voice. 😎🎈I knew it was a tiny
space in time but it’s one I will never forget she knew all the tea on everyone in Hollywood.

Happy Birthday Weekend Oodie and many happy and healthy returns. 🎈😎💕

I hope you and hubby have a nice meal together today. 😎

      @sheba2011

I didn’t see hubs today. I surprised him yesterday with an egg salad sandwich from the Farmer’s Market. At the same time I treated myself to a Reuben from the same place. I gave some to hubs without a problem. On the way home I had severe stomach cramps and could not figure out why. I thought it may have been food poisoning but everything I ate was made that day. Then when I finally remembered that this could be a sulfite attack. I forgot that the Reuben was loaded with sauerkraut and I ate it without thinking. I am OK now, finally. Up all night . Another lesson learned. I will see hubs tomorrow and will show him your pictures and how I celebrated on line.

One of my favorite dances is called the Asian Ribbon Dance. It’s not only beautifully choreographed, but shows the colors brilliantly. This is one time I should have had tickets for the balcony because the dance goes through many steps and flows differently when watching from above. One needs to be very limber to do the twists and turns. In a different way you have captured this spirit with the change of dress, colors, etc. through your expressions of movement. Hubs will be able to see this as he loves the dances as well. I think that was the moment he knew I was the one for him. I actually sat at the edge of my seat watching. He kept asking me questions. I kept shushing him away not wanting to miss a step.

Thank you again for the pictures and the movements. To think I will be able to see this until you start another new thread, someday, in the future. Now go feed the kitties and the opossum who thinks he is a cat. Enjoy the evening. Our area is a bit windy and temps will go down to the 20s tonight. Tomorrow the 60s and 40s. Warmup begins Tuesday when we will be in the 70s.

Why are all the teams we want to win come down to the last play of the game? Geez, never easy or stress-free.😟 And so many overtime games, especially in hockey. Glad for Denver except for the injured QB, super bad luck, and sad for SF. On to next week…..

Cold and snowy through mid-week, the high on Tuesday will be in the teens, lows single digits or less.🥶❄️ Have some running around to do this week so I hope the snow goes away quick.

Watching this afternoon’s game, having Lo mein for dinner.🥡 Big, warm hugs to you and Poppy.🤗💖

Thank you for the birthday wishes. The best present will be seeing hubs back home and not at that rehab center. I will be seeing him tomorrow along with meeting with the Administrator and Social Services. I’ll be glad when I can make homemade goodies, soups and whatever,

By the way, the cough medicine I recommended actually tastes pretty good and does not feel like anything that we can purchase over-the-counter. It does taste a bit medicinally, but I found that in one day my cough started to diminish. I was reluctant to give it a try, but didn’t want to stay away from the Rehab for any length of time. It worked and that is the main thing. I hope you start feeling better. The Asian New Year is just days away and that should bring you some new choices when ordering in or out. Their New Year goes until March, I think.

When Arthur Miller first shook Marilyn Monroe’s hand on the set of As Young as You Feel in 1951, he later wrote that “the shock of her body’s motion sped through me.”
She was crying that day—grieving the recent death of her agent and lover, Johnny Hyde. She was still a rising star, known mostly for scene-stealing supporting roles.
He was already famous. His play Death of a Salesman had won the Pulitzer Prize. Critics were calling him America’s greatest living playwright.
After watching her perform, Miller told Marilyn he thought she should act on stage. The people around them laughed. But Marilyn didn’t hear them. For the first time, someone was seeing a part of her she had always wanted to be seen—not just a body, but a potential artist.
They parted ways for several years. Miller was married with children. Marilyn weathered a rocky nine-month marriage to Joe DiMaggio. But they never forgot each other.
When they reconnected in New York in 1955, the spark had only grown stronger.
Miller was captivated by what he saw beneath her glamorous surface—a raw, poetic sensitivity that most men found convenient to ignore. He told his parents she had “more courage, more intimate decency, more sensitivity and love for humanity than anyone I ever knew in my life.”
Marilyn was drawn to him for the opposite reason. He was the first man who seemed to value her mind rather than just her beauty. When she described meeting him, she said it was “like running into a tree—like a cool drink when you’ve had a fever.”
They married on June 29, 1956, in a four-minute civil ceremony. The press called them “The Egghead and the Hourglass.”
In the letters Miller sent during their courtship and honeymoon, his passion was unmistakable. In one letter dated April 30, 1956, he wrote:
“I will come again to the kitchen, pretending you are not there and discover you again. And as you stand there cooking breakfast, I will kiss your neck and your back… and turn you about and kiss your breasts and the eggs will burn.”
For Marilyn, who had spent her childhood moving between foster homes, this vision of simple domestic love was the greatest gift anyone could offer.
She converted to Judaism to fit into his family. She threw herself into the quiet rhythms of country living at their farmhouse in Roxbury, Connecticut. She planted flowers, shopped at the local general store, and even learned to cut Arthur’s hair while he sat on the porch.
Their Basset Hound, Hugo, became a beloved part of the family. Marilyn would write letters to Arthur’s children from Hugo’s perspective, signing them with the dog’s name.
Miller, meanwhile, embraced his role as “country squire.” He built a small writing studio on their property, where he worked each morning. But he would always emerge when he heard Marilyn’s voice.
For a brief, beautiful moment, they became the family she had always dreamed of.
      Then came England.
In 1956, the newlyweds traveled to London for the filming of The Prince and the Showgirl. Marilyn was starring opposite Laurence Olivier, and the production was plagued with conflict. She clashed with Olivier. Her anxiety spiraled. She began relying on sleeping pills.
Miller tried to be supportive. But what happened next would haunt Marilyn for the rest of her life.
One day, she happened to find Miller’s personal notebook lying open on a table.
The exact words she read have never been confirmed. But what she told her acting coach, Lee Strasberg, was devastating enough:
“It was something about how disappointed he was with me. He thought I was some kind of angel, and now he realized he was wrong.”
For Marilyn, Miller was the one person she believed loved her unconditionally—the man who had seen her mind, not just her body. Discovering that he, too, judged her caused a wound that never closed.
The marriage limped on for five more years.
By the time they worked together on The Misfits in 1960, the dream had completely faded. Miller had written the screenplay to showcase Marilyn as a serious actress, but by then she resented him. She didn’t like that he’d done a lackluster rewrite of scenes for another film. And when she had an affair with co-star Yves Montand, Miller didn’t fight for her.
They divorced shortly before The Misfits premiered in 1961. Nineteen months later, Marilyn was dead.
Miller chose not to attend her funeral. “I stay home,” he said, “and let the public mourners finish the mockery.”
But he never entirely let her go.
Years later, Miller’s daughter discovered that her father had kept a few of Marilyn’s things hidden in the garage at their Connecticut property—silent reminders of a time when they truly believed that love could save them both.
What can we learn from this story?
Their love was a meeting between the solid earth and the restless tide. Arthur was the shore—steady, rooted, and firm. Marilyn was the ocean—beautiful and vast, but prone to violent storms.
Sometimes two people are a perfect horizon, but they cannot truly inhabit each other’s worlds.
But the deeper lesson lies in that devastating moment when Marilyn found Arthur’s diary.
She had spent her entire life being looked at. She married Arthur Miller because she believed he was the only one who truly saw her. To her, he was the ultimate judge of truth—if he thought she was brilliant, she was.
But when she read those cold, disappointed words, she realized that the man she worshipped as her savior was also a man who felt burdened by her.
We must be careful not to make another person the sole architect of our self-worth.
When we turn a partner into a god, we give them the power to destroy us with a single sentence. No human being can bear the weight of being someone else’s entire foundation.
For love to be a sanctuary, it must be a place where we are allowed to be flawed without being a disappointment.
Real love is not about having a perfect story. It is about having the courage to accept—and love—the real, imperfect person in front of us.
And perhaps, most importantly, it is about never placing anyone so high that their private doubts can shatter us completely.
Because we are all just people, doing our best, carrying notebooks full of complicated feelings we never meant for anyone to read.

My birthday was actually yesterday, but what the heck, why not celebrate on the weekend. More fun. More laughs. More of everything. Ethel Merman and I celebrate our birthdays together.

I made it to the Farmer’s Market today and bought quite a few things for hubs. They did have their egg salad on a croissant and in a wrap. Hubs loved every morsel on the croissant. I also picked up bananas, sliced watermelon and cubed honeydew. I had so much fun shopping, though the housework never got started. Hubs had no shakes today. Goes to prove that it had to be the food and lack of protein. This happens to me when I do not eat breakfast by a certain time because of my thyroid. They also had a special on a Reuben which I ate during dinner with hubs tonight. And, I guess, my complaining went a long way. Tonight’s dinner included chicken nuggets, steak fries and veggies. Dessert was vanilla pudding. He was ecstatic. Love it when things come together. I will still be reporting this to the Administrator as well as our health insurance company and the county’s health department. This should never happen to anyone in a rehab setting.

Thank you for the birthday surprise. I was so mesmerized with the dance and the costumes. Never too late to say a Happy Happy. You remembered even with all that you are doing. Thank you so much. I will share this with hubs tomorrow. Have a great evening. Stay warm. We will be back in the 60s and 40s beginning tomorrow. We have a RIP current statement along with high surf warnings starting tomorrow through Monday sometime. No need to worry. I will not be swimming until my buddy returns home. Now to put the groceries away. Thank goodness for the freezer paks and refrigerators that can go into a vehicle.

Hi and thank you for the birthday wishes. I had an enjoyable day today with hubs. Also met his physician who stopped by this evening to check on hubs. I surmise that the nurse from last night reported the shakes to them. I mentioned the lack of proteins. There is nothing he can do, but gave me a person’s name to contact. He is also part of my physician’s group. Love when things come together. He will be stopping by to check on hubs during the week. Again, thanks for the shout out.

For any Rod Stewart fan, there is one statistic that we recite with absolute pride whenever someone questions Rod’s global status: 3.5 million people. On New Year’s Eve, 1994, Rod didn’t just play a concert; he orchestrated a human phenomenon on the sands of Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. To this day, it holds the Guinness World Record for the largest free rock concert in history, a feat that even the biggest modern pop stars have failed to eclipse.
The atmosphere that night was nothing short of spiritual. In Brazilian tradition, New Year’s Eve (Réveillon) sees millions dress in white to honor Yemanjá, the goddess of the sea. Imagine, if you will, a sea of white-clad humanity stretching as far as the eye could see, with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the lights of Rio on the other, all waiting for our London boy. When Rod stepped onto that stage, he wasn’t just a singer; he was the conductor of a city-sized choir.
Watching footage of that night still induces goosebumps. The sheer energy when the opening chords rang out was palpable. But the defining moment for us fans was his performance of “Sailing.” It is an anthem that has always held a special place in Rod’s discography, but in Rio, it transformed. With millions of voices singing the chorus back to him, swaying in unison under the fireworks, it transcended rock and roll. Rod later admitted that he was overwhelmed by the magnitude of it all, feeling like a speck in a vast ocean of love.
This concert proved that Rod Stewart’s music has no borders. He wasn’t playing to a niche crowd; he was playing to grandmothers, teenagers, locals, and tourists. It was a celebration of life, music, and the universal appeal of his raspy voice. For us, the Copacabana concert is the ultimate mic drop—an event where Rod Stewart didn’t just conquer a stadium, he conquered a horizon.

      @sheba2011

I just returned from visiting hubs. Yesterday I paid $8 to have dinner with him last night and tonight. Last night I had a hamburger on a roll that was not toasted. It came with American cheese that had been cut in half with a half slice of lettuce. Nothing else on the plate. Dessert was one chocolate chip cookie which I gave to hubs. There were two 6 oz cans of soda both sugar free. Tonight was a salad with chicken. I could not find the chicken. There was supposed to be potato soup. I did not see it nor did hubby. Hubby’s plate was mashed potato with gravy and something like gravy with no meat. Dessert was supposed to be gelatin. It was not present for any of the patients and that also included me as a guest. There was a new patient at hubby’s table and he was famished following dinner. He was so disappointed that he walked away. Needless to say, I will try my best to get to the Farmer’s Market tomorrow and to see if there is something I can make to bring with me. Hubs hands were trembling when I saw him. His shoulder was all bone. I am absolutely livid. I surmise the cook left.

      • 01.17.26 4:17 AM

      @oodiebom,

Good Evening that is just so sad how could they do that to patients? my goodness you
pay a small fortune to be in a place like that and not get decent food is just wrong.

I do not like this situation I hope he will be home soon if possible.

How can he have the energy to get up and be active without proper food?

Something similar to this will make him sit up and smile. 💕😎🎈

I hope you are able to go to the market.

OZ is cold tonight with some snow on the way. I am fine with that as I have fed all the
      animals. 💕

Oodie take it easy and get some rest. I am SMH over the meal.

I am getting ready to leave for the day. I will be stopping at the Farmer’s Market. Hopefully, will bring homemade soup and maybe a sandwich which hubs can eat without a problem. Later, I will go to Culver’s for chili and salad. Too cold for their homemade ice custard. Monday I will contact the Health Department. Not sure if they will be following up on the meals at the Rehab. From what I’ve read, they will yes me and do absolutely nothing. But will give it a try anyway. I surmise that the patients never read the menu that is posted for the day. I know in hubs case, being in a wheelchair, he would not be able to see it. Patients who can walk and read will be able to see the menu. A Rehab place where some or most patients have no access to what is going on. I think I will be stepping in to see that changes are made. Hubs dinner looked like “gravy train.” There was nothing chewable on his plate. It was ugly. I tried to go out to get some food last night for him, but the road was closed for miles due to an accident. The road was still closed (it is a State Rd) when I left.

Like you, we are supposed to get 1-2 inches of snow tonight into tomorrow.❄️ I wanted to go to mom’s but that probably won’t happen. My tires aren’t the best in snow so I’ll just stay put and watch football, hockey, golf, etc. with hubs or read a book. Are there any football teams you’re rooting for? This year is so crazy that I keep forgetting who is still playing.🤪

Have a nice evening, stay warm, Jake and I sending lots of hugs.🤗💖

The weather is changing as I type. Awoke this morning and the temp was in the low 60s. It is now in the 40s and will be in the 30s tonight. A short warm up for Saturday and maybe Sunday. I am dressed in layers. Wearing shoes instead of thongs or sandals. Hubs is in bed with sheets, blankets and a Wheels blanket. The rehab is cold.

I am feeling a bit better. There is still some pain, but I am dealing with it. Yesterday was difficult and I now know it was a forecast of things to come. Hubs is good. The car is now in good shape. Tires needed air and the panel is now clear. May shop tomorrow.

I hope the aches and pain goes away soon and I too believe the weather is playing

Our daughter has her ticket to India already so this is a fun and adventure trip for

      for everything she needs. 😎🎈

As a mother of four children I do worry when they travel anywhere. LOL! I check on

Let us know how she likes the trip.
Like Shoelady India isn’t on my my travel list but never say never lol but most likely never. I recall people getting married back in the day going back to buy all things Wedding related and bring it all back. Sometimes it was even a wife lol. Not as easy to do now

and they call both hubby and I everyday. I am not a nervous parent or person. Our daughter
is going on a retreat with friends many places are not for many people. This daughter went
to Italy by herself and had the time of her life. 😎💕All my family travels and they go where
they want to go and experience life from different views.

One of my favorite shows was Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown. I love seeing different
cultures and especially the food. 💕

Our daughter is safe and in good hands I have the entire trip looks very interesting. 💕🎈

Cold and windy here, high in the teens.🥶 Not much snow but enough to cover everything white. Stayed inside all day.

I feel good except the cough won’t go away. Same thing happened last year. I think we coughed for two months.😷

I’ll be interested to hear what your daughter says about India. That is one country that was never at the top of my lists. A friend of my husband, who recently passed away, built shopping malls there. He was quite wealthy and visited many times.

Stay warm by the fire, big hugs to you and Poppy.🤗💖
