NATIONAL SPOUSES DAY

weather.

I was concerned that your electricity was off and your pipes froze. We will be experiencing some record lows tonight with the wind bringing in 20 degrees with the chill factor. I am wearing a turtle knit sweater and will add a sweatshirt later. I may bring that warm robe with.me. Like you,. I will be making chicken soup for hubs and myself. Nothing like a.little warmth to make the day brighter. The morning started at 71 degrees. It is now in the low 60s. Not sure what the temp will be when I return.home. stay safe and warm.

I just returned home from visiting hubs. When I arrived found that he was in the dining room. He finally was served around 6pm. The food looked disgusting. Half the plate was baked beans. The other half consisted of overcooked spinach or kale (not sure which, but looked gross) and pulled pork. I happened to see the menu before I walked in. Dessert was strawberry ice cream in a small hoodsie cup. Following dinner my hubby’s face turned ashen. I asked if he was alright and he replied he was fine. I just did not like the way he looked. I brought him to his room and watched. An aide came in to make him comfortable and saw some stains on his sheet. Before he did anything, he left to retrieve some clean linens. He also had something as a disinfectant for both sides of the mattress. It took a few extra minutes, but worth it. Hubs was back in a hospital gown with clean sheets, blanket and his Sherpa blanket. I still did not like the way he looked, so ran out and notified the RN. She took his blood pressure and temp and also the oxygen level. She mentioned that his blood pressure was up. I have a feeling that the food did not agree with him, though having a taste of a soft cookie made him smile. The RN gave him some meds and he was fine a few minutes later. I am sure she will be checking on him before leaving when her shift is done.

When I left the rehab the temp was 52 and the wind was more than a breeze. By the time I reached our carport the temp was 50. We have a cold warning starting at midnight to 9am
tomorrow. Looking at the forecast we will be in the cooler weather for the next couple of weeks. There is also another storm brewing and this time Florida may see some snow. Our home in Ct. got 22 inches of snow. Winter will be here for awhile. Just remember how cold it gets now will determine how hot the summer will be. Geez…..

Power is on and the worst is over, got about a foot of snow. Got our driveway plowed early this morning. Hubs usually does it with the snowblower but just too much this time. After all the road plowing, the snow was up to our mailbox. Our road is fine, not sure about the others. Staying in today and will probably venture out tomorrow.👍

Hubs having a relapse with the cough and sinuses. I’m getting tired of all the sound effects.🤧 We are definitely on the same wavelengths – just made some tea and we are having cheddar broccoli soup for dinner.🧀🥦

Good Evening I have to say that Lady sorry about your hubby could be all the outdoor
activity might have caused it. My husband too was out getting rid of show from our
sidewalk and driveway it was a job. 😎

So far he is just worn out we are still cold I hope the sun is out tomorrow.

NATIONAL IRISH COFFEE DAY

National Irish Coffee Day kicks off January 25th each year with a mug of strong coffee, Irish whiskey, sugar, and topped with a layer of cream.

On a cold, wet day in 1942 weary travelers to the small Shannon Airport in southwest Ireland found their way to a restaurant and chef Joe Sheridan. To warm his guests, he served them hot coffee, spiked with whiskey and topped with whipped cream. The passengers asked if the beverage was Brazilian coffee. Sheridan responded that it was Irish coffee.

A travel writer, Stanton Delaplane, brought Irish coffee to the United States after having it at Shannon Airport.

Delaplane brought the idea to the Buena Vista Cafe on November 10, 1952. After much trial and error, sampling, and a trip back to Ireland for a taste of the original, Delaplane, along with Buena Vista owners Jack Koeppler and George Freeberg, were able to replicate the delicious coffee and the method for floating the cream on top of the coffee.

National Florida Day on January 25th recognizes the 27th state to join the United States.

The Sunshine State is home to the oldest established city in the country. With over 400 years of history, St. Augustine’s streets and colonial architecture have stories to tell. Founded by Spanish explorers in 1565, visit the city and walk in the same footsteps as 16th-century bishops, ponder the escapades of pirates and the whereabouts of lost gold and learn about the lives of European settlers.

East and West Florida became the 14th and 15th British Colonies after the end of the French and Indian War in 1763. However, in 1783, after the end of the American Revolutionary War, The Treaty of Paris returned Florida to Spain.

The present-day borders of Florida were absorbed through two transactions: The Louisiana Purchase in 1803 brought East Florida with it (but not without dispute from the French) and through a U.S. intervention in an uprising in West Florida in 1812 causing West Florida to join the Mississippi Territory. Florida joined the Union on March 3, 1845.

Glad you have power, so far, so good here. We are definitely getting more than a foot of snow. I don’t know what time it started overnight but I got up at 6:45, everything was covered and it hasn’t stopped for one minute.❄️❄️❄️

Your prayer is wonderful and so heartfelt, especially for those dealing with the cold and upcoming storms. I pray that your pipes will be OK and that you will be warm and comfortable.

Hubby has been getting and eating some good meals lately. Last night he had tacos with all the fixings including corn. There was no dessert, but I did bring him watermelon and Costco cookies which he adored. Unfortunately, I had a bad sulfite attack which I assumed came from the cookies. I had stars coming at me and realized I needed my meds. Luckily, I do carry them. Within a few minutes I started feeling better and decided to leave and drive home. Hubs was a bit shaken from the ordeal and as I walked down the long hallway, notified the RN who was on duty. She walked me to the door and unlocked it and watched from the window to make sure I got to the car all right. Today, I stayed home and was able to do a few things. I have my regular
appointment this week. I cannot do the shot. That thing is loaded with sulfites. As long as the allergy pills work, that’s all I need.

I hope the kitties show. I know you have something outside for them . I am wondering if that would be better on your porch with some blankets inside for warmth. You may find the kitties using it and it would help them survive the arctic blast and then some.

Oodie, a warm meal and some good food go a long way.
I learned about all those additives in shots and meds with my Mother who also had allergic reactions. Glad you know the sign and carry some meds.
Hope your houses in MA are fairing well in the cold.

Good day Taci if your plants are wilting all they need is a bit more water. I would put
more water in and let it come out of the bottom of the pot and wait a few hours you
will see a big difference. I do this from experiences as I have a sunny front and a shady
back yard. I have to say my backyard takes very little efforts do to the shade.

The yard is beautiful but I have to put some work in it to make the plants beautiful and water
is my magic. 😎💕

When people walk by my house they always compliment me on the plants and flowers
if I am outdoors taking care of them. I think pure natural rain is the best water. 💕
We are not always lucky to get it when we need it so water is still the best thing for the
plants or flowers.

Sheba, Thanks for the information on the plants. I did water yesterday and added some feed but will probably buy 3 new plants for the front until something thrives. One of the plants I replaced in the front is also in the back and had grown into a huge bush in the back. It blooms in Spring.
Your yard sounds lovely and I know you have great taste!
We have the potential for HOA letters and most of the Board are within a few houses of me.
Hubs went to inform (nice right? 🙂 ) them on something when they sent letters and he had to let them know what they were doing was not legal in CA. They were receptive as they had no choice.
Hope you and all in the Storm stay inside and pipes don’t freeze. Once when we lived in WI our phone lines froze. Remember those? Not too many have them anymore.

Glad your power is still on. It was 0 degrees when I got up this morning.🥶 We will have highs in the teens all next week and very low lows. Not good for the pipes. Snow is supposed to start around 9:00 PM. They are now saying 10-15 inches.

Didn’t go see mom today, she was tired and so am I. I won’t see her until after the storm is gone which will be late Monday or Tuesday. They have upped our snowfall to 8-12 inches.❄️ We haven’t had that much in one day since 2010.

Hockey team is doing excellent right now, thanks.👏 Hope I just didn’t jinx them!

Good Evening I do believe our weather are about the same give or take. We are putting
pet safe Ice Melt out on the steps, driveway and sidewalks. We have good snowblower if
there is a lot to remove. 😎I have a senior neighbor next door on the other side of me and
we will do his driveway also. This neighbor has a pacemaker and shoveling snow is not good for
heart patients.

This neighbor/friend lives alone in a huge house just like mine he does have a daughter
and she is there everyday plus he has hired help as well. We are all just want the power
to stay on.

A couple of these will get you through the night. 😎💕 No worries our bed is a Haven
and very comfortable I hope to sleep like a baby. I have TCM on and all is well for now.
I pray we have power throughout the night and into Monday.

Sweet Dreams oh the store was a madhouse I thank goodness i shop Sam’s and Costco’s
for things to stock up in case there is an emergency. We have plenty of food and I brought
a ton for the animals. 💕😎

Cher walked into a Los Angeles divorce court in 1975 and discovered that despite a decade of No. 1 hits, Sonny Bono legally controlled almost every dollar her voice had earned.
For a decade, Cher was everywhere. Number one records. Network television. Stadium tours. Variety show dominance. To the public, she looked untouchable. In reality, every major decision, contract, and dollar flowed through Sonny Bono. When the marriage collapsed, so did the illusion. Cher discovered she had helped build an empire she did not own.
The paperwork told the story the audience never saw. Sonny controlled publishing. Sonny controlled management. Sonny controlled touring revenue. Cher was paid as a performer, not as a partner, despite being half the brand. When she filed for divorce, she also filed for survival. The case was not just personal. It was financial. If she lost, she would exit her own career as an employee.
The decisive moment came when Cher asked for an accounting and realized how exposed she was. She could sing. She could sell. But she could not sign without permission. The system expected her to accept it quietly. She refused.
The divorce settlement forced disclosure. Cher won back her name, her independence, and partial financial control, but the damage was already done. She was suddenly a solo act in an industry eager to punish women who challenged male gatekeepers. Radio resisted. Studios hesitated. The easy path would have been nostalgia.
She chose reinvention.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Cher deliberately dismantled her image. She took acting roles that stripped away glamour and invited ridicule. Silkwood. Mask. Moonstruck. She trained. She auditioned. She accepted lower billing to prove credibility. Critics who had dismissed her as decoration were forced to revise their math. She won an Academy Award in 1988 on her own terms.
Then she did something rarer. She outlived the industry cycles.
When pop radio declared her era over, Cher returned with Believe in 1998, adopting technology younger artists mocked and executives doubted. The song sold more than ten million copies worldwide. The woman once excluded from her own profits now negotiated from strength.
Cher did not escape exploitation by being protected.
She escaped by learning the rules, breaking dependence, and refusing to disappear.
Fame made her visible.
Control made her permanent.

Ihad labs yesterday and next week is the doctor appointment. Unlike, some people, who have labs done and the doctor appointment the same day, I do mine 10 days prior. Waiting is a challenge, especially after suffering a fall just a few weeks ago. My stupidity by leaving things near the front door. These were the tins for people at the rehab. The tip of my shoe set it off and down I went.

Following the tests, I drove to the Farmer’s Market. Picked up a nice salad and some egg salad since I had to fast which I did for 15+ hours. To say I was hungry was an understatement. Drove home and had brunch. Put things together and rested and then left to see hubs. Hubs was in the dining room. Normally the walk is easy. But yesterday, oh my. The knees didn’t want to bend and the walking was grotesque to say the least. I started to exercise, and I surmise, becoming limber again will take some time. Hubs was glad to see me and he had finished his dinner when I arrived. He looked good, but his hands were still a bit shaky. I know this is not from being cold, but rather, the amount of protein he eats and the freshness of other food he isn’t getting. I thought I had packed the bananas, but they weren’t in the tote. They were still on the counter when I returned home. I will be bringing them today. This time they are in the tote along with my dinner. I will also prepare some hot soup for him. I am sure he will enjoy the cut up watermelon and the honeydew as well. He loves cookies or cake, but suffice to say, I will leave those behind until the shakiness is a thing of the past.

I heard from our roofer and he will be out next week to go over details for our new roof and then some. Next week I will be contacting a new bathroom remodeler to complete the job. This is what I should have done in the first place.

around three days before the appointment. This way all info that the doctor requested
is right at their finger tips. Also if they find something new or need to look at it’s no big
deal to have it done in their labs that day.

I check the patient portal and I can see labs within 24 hours. i am like you it’s the waiting.

We are looking at a possible foot of snow as of today.❄️ Ours will start later on Saturday, through Sunday and into Monday morning. The bitter cold starts Saturday and through the middle of next week. With the power outages, we may not be in touch for a few days. Rome, Summer 1952.
A 24-year-old woman stood on a film set, convinced she was about to fail spectacularly.
Audrey Hepburn had survived Nazi-occupied Holland as a child, where malnutrition ended her dreams of becoming a prima ballerina. She’d done chorus work in London theaters. She’d had small roles in films nobody remembered.
Now Paramount Pictures had cast her as a princess in “Roman Holiday”—opposite one of Hollywood’s biggest names.
She was certain she didn’t belong.
Gregory Peck was 37, confident, already nominated for an Oscar. His contract guaranteed him solo top billing. The studio had hired him to carry the film. Audrey’s name barely appeared in promotional materials.
Nobody expected her to become a legend.
Except Gregory Peck.
Halfway through filming, he did something almost unheard of in Hollywood.
He went to director William Wyler and asked that Audrey receive equal billing—the same prominence as his own name, above the title.
Stars didn’t do this. Billing meant power, leverage, proof of your status in Hollywood’s brutal hierarchy. You didn’t volunteer to share it.
“She’s going to win the Academy Award for this performance,” Peck told them.
They thought he’d lost his mind.
But Peck had seen something magical happening on camera. He later described watching her as “like watching a flower come to bloom.”
On set, he became her quiet protector. When she struggled with scenes, he guided her with patience and kindness. Years later, Audrey would recall: “Not only did Greg agree to have me as his leading lady, but he guided me for months with kindness and patience and humor through one of the loveliest experiences of my life.”
When “Roman Holiday” premiered in August 1953, the world fell in love.
Critics called her “a revelation.” Audiences were captivated. And when the Academy Awards arrived in March 1954, Audrey Hepburn won Best Actress—exactly as Gregory Peck had predicted.
She was the first actress ever to win an Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA for a single performance.
But this story doesn’t end with an award.
It ends with forty years of genuine friendship.
In Hollywood, on-set relationships usually fade when filming stops. But not this one.
Gregory and Audrey exchanged handwritten letters. They attended each other’s premieres. They celebrated marriages and mourned losses together. When Audrey left Hollywood to raise her children, Peck understood. When she devoted her later years to UNICEF, traveling to the poorest regions of the world to help children, he admired her even more.
She’d become exactly what he’d seen in her from the beginning: someone whose light made the world better just by being in it.
In January 1993, Audrey Hepburn died at her home in Switzerland. She was 63.
At her memorial service, Gregory Peck stood before mourners and read her favorite poem—”Unending Love” by Rabindranath Tagore.
“I seem to have loved you in numberless forms, numberless times,” he recited, his voice breaking. “In life after life, in age after age, forever.”
The composed, dignified movie star was gone. In his place was someone raw with grief, saying goodbye to a person he’d loved and admired for four decades.
He’d believed in her when she couldn’t believe in herself.
He’d fought for her recognition when the studio saw her as expendable.
He’d watched her become a star, then a legend, then a humanitarian who changed countless lives.
And when it was time to say farewell, he honored her with the only thing he had left to give: his tears.
Gregory Peck died ten years later, in 2003.
But their story lives on—not as a Hollywood romance, but as something rarer and more beautiful: a friendship built on selfless kindness, mutual respect, and the profound power of believing in someone before they believe in themselves.
Sometimes the greatest gift you can give another person isn’t love or money or fame.
It’s simply seeing their light before anyone else does—and making sure the whole world sees it too.
