NATIONAL TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA AWARENESS DAY

On October 7, National Trigeminal Neuralgia Awareness Day brings support and education to the general public about a painful condition.

The trigeminal nerve is the largest of cranial nerves and consists of 12 pairs of nerves that control many functions of the face. Causes of trigeminal neuralgia range from pressure on the nerve, aging, or a disorder that wears away the myelin such as cerebral palsy. Other causes include injury or stroke.

Those with trigeminal neuralgia may experience severe pain in the face and jaw. Even slight stimulation can trigger pain. The pain can be shooting or jabbing. Before an episode begins, some sufferers experience a burning sensation. The pain may be localized or spread and may worsen over time. It can also last a few minutes or days.

While treatments such as surgery or medications may provide relief, the condition is progressive over time.

The observance encourages us to wear teal in support of those who suffer from this debilitating condition. The day promotes advancing the cause of research to help find a cure. It also aims to raise awareness to improve diagnosis and treatment procedures.

Milton is now a Category 5. There is a possibility for this storm to be downgraded because of wind sheer and a High coming in. The weather people said that the sheer and High is a strong one and will be able to downgrade this system to a 3 or maybe a 2. I cannot tell you how often I have checked on this system.

For now, it looks like I will be going to a Shelter which is an elementary school sometime tomorrow afternoon. This storm will hit sometime late morning or early afternoon on Wednesday.

Yes, I am worried and concerned. I already have a slight bit of damage to the peak on our roof. As luck would have it, the parts that came off were underneath the front of the van and one at the trunk. Both are safely put away (at least I hope so). All outside things that can cause damage are taken care of (I did this with the last storm almost two weeks ago). All bills are now paid. Laundry is now in the dryer (mostly hubby’s). Garbage was picked up just a few minutes ago. I will top the gas tank off before seeing hubby. As of right now, hubby is still at the rehab and nothing has been said about an evacuation. If he isn’t vacated, I may try to stay or return before the storm hits on Wednesday. Hubby had TV (satellite) throughout Helena.

The shelters, all 3, are Elementary Schools. Can you fathom that the “John” is down to the floor??? What were the storm people thinking????? Can you visualize people trying to use the restrooms??? The Grade level is Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Youwsa!!!! LOL

Just checked again with the Tampa news station. The storm is definitely a Category 5 with wind speed between 150mph-160mph. The good news is that it has moved slightly to the North and with the sheer factor and the High thrown in, it will probably be a Category 3 when it hits landfall.
I am approximately 10+ miles East of the ocean. It may still be a Category 3 when it arrives in my area, but the wind velocity could change, though that has not been discussed as yet. Our weather today has seen some sunshine and a few showers, nothing earth shattering. Temp is 79 and chance of showers is 70%.

To say I am a bit concerned is saying it lightly. I hope your area does not get hit.
Milton is heading toward Tampa I don’t know the layout of Florida I just hope no
bad property damages and no loss of life.

This is a lot to take in especially after the last storm. Oodie I wish you could stay
with your husband during this time you have spent a lot of money for his care I
feel they should accommodate you if possible. I don’t know their rules so that may
be an issue.

I will not worry you as you have enough going on. Please let me know where you will
be if the storm hits your area.

Looks like the entire State has been asked to evacuate. There are no hotels available in my area or anywhere in Florida. For now, I will be with hubby and he may be evacuated to higher ground. If that is the case I will not be able to be with him or to follow them. Unfortunately, that is the case. However, though the scenario is that the storm will be a Category 4 when it hits Florida, there is a chance that the new high and sheer factor could lower the impact to either a Category Two or Three. The amount of rain will not change. Looks like that factor is pretty strong.

Sheba, Tampa is approximately 45 miles North from me. That makes the impact to me a bit lighter. The storm surge will be dramatic for the coastline from Naples to the panhandle, though the panhandle will not see the brunt of this storm.

I know you had your own problems and what you and your husband did for your nieces is wonderful. Not many uncles or aunts would take the extra road to show concern and to also show that you are family and you will always be there for them. I want you to know that not all families are not like yours. You and your husband are one in a million.

I will keep you posted as long as I have electricity and WiFi.

Well, watching the tropics again. Some rain due today. The tropical system starts tomorrow. Either Tuesday or Wednesday may have another hurricane which means we will most likely be evacuated again. The hotels/motels in the area are already booked and if the storm stays tropical, those reservations cannot be cancelled. No one seems to really know what this storm will do or what path it will take. It’s a nail biting and waiting game.

Temperature right now is 87 degrees with over 95% humidity. The sun is out and our plants look great. I used what is called a staple to lift the plants up and it seems to be working well. I also ordered clear poles with butterfly clip ons which arrived yesterday. These I will use as a backup.

The roofer was scheduled for today, but cancelled last night due to the rain situation. I am definitely OK with that decision. The type of rain we will be getting will make driving extremely
difficult. Right now I am thankful that we are not driving North.

The Farmer’s Market had mums yesterday. They were beautiful, but decided not to purchase. We are still in summer mode. Have a great day today. Hope your sinuses are not an issue. Take care. Stay safe.

I haven’t had TV for two years because of the hurricanes. I will be contacting Spectrum soon. For now, the desktop is my TV and of course there is one in hubby’s room.

This is hurricane season which begins June 1st and goes until November 30th.. We are now tracking Milton. I could stay in a shelter, but that means lugging blankets, food, change of clothing, etc.. The shelters are usually a school. I may stay with hubby if he isn’t evacuated. I’ve been known to fall asleep either in his bedside chair or the wheelchair. When I left him tonight he was grinning from ear to ear when I mentioned that all the hotels were filled. I didn’t have the heart to say he may be evacuated to Orlando. But that is a big question since Orlando could be receiving the full force. This has been going on for years, but lately the storms are larger and pack a brutal punch due to Climate Change. It also doesn’t help when Homeowners
Insurance Companies up and left leaving less choices. At the moment all the beaches on the Gulf Coast are closed indefinitely due to Helene. People are not only cleaning their homes from the effects of sea water but sand as well. Seems some of the roads are impassable due to sand which in some cases is 4′ deep. Can you imagine the effects of 4′ of sand in your home??? I will try to make the best of the situation no matter what. To think I have been trying to get a hotel room since Friday afternoon.. Nothing within a 30 mile radius one way. YIKES

I am up and doing laundry and paying bills. Still no luck with hotels. Maybe it is just as well. I will get through this the best I can.

So far I haven’t heard one way or the other if hubby will be evacuated. The back part of the building abuts the river and right now it is below the flood stage. Hubby’s area is safe for now. I just received an e-mail of a possible home about 16 miles East of where I am. I will look at the area after the storm passes. This will be a new build and from what I have heard, will be handicapped accessible. Today’s new homes are being built with the hurricanes in mind. These new homes may be able to withstand winds over 200 mph. To think that in New England we see either the Category Ones and sometimes the Category Two’s. Hard to fathom the wind velocity here.

I will update this “adventure” from time to time.

Good afternoon in Oz. Another perfect day in the ‘burgh.🌞 Just got back from getting the flu shot. Cooking up a turkey breast today, kind of a mini Thanksgiving, with mashed potatoes, gravy, etc.🦃 Leftovers for tomorrow so I won’t have to cook, yay!

Hubby and I drove to another part of Kansas where our niece lives we spent some time
there today. My husband lost his brother a couple years ago due to cancer and it was
shocking. Hubby is not talking a lot tonight and I totally get it. This brother was very close
to him. What is going on is today is the day he passed. We will spend time with his other
daughter tomorrow. 💕 I am having some mix feelings as I miss him too.

I made it to the Farmer’s Market and had a great time. For this month and maybe next one as well,, they made their own homemade soup which is roasted pumpkin and apple soup. It is soooooo delicious. They also had homemade pasta and I tried it. Excellent. Brings back the memories of our out of the way trip as we head North with a stop in Lancaster, Pa.. We usually stay a few extra days to catch our breath and to shop for our frig in Ct..

I made it to the Rehab and hubby was in one of his joking moods. He had me laughing so hard I thought I would end up on the floor. Anyway, he enjoyed the bananas. I had watermelon and honeydew along with homemade pudding. One was orange and pineapple and the other a mint something or other. I’ll bring those tomorrow (weather permitting).

Yep, the weather outlook isn’t too good. We are expecting at least 6″ of rain beginning Wednesday or Thursday. Still not sure if it will be a hurricane. Looks more like a tropical depression which means deluge of rain with a rest period in between. Meanwhile, rain for tomorrow and Sunday. I had to promise everyone that I would stay home during t he downpours and drive when the rain stops. Hubby said for me to pack a bag and stay at the rehab. Wish I could, but that would be up to the administration.

Tomorrow I will bring Clean Boss if the weather is OK. The Aide is working through Monday and said he would help. Since the roommate left I have no fear of the scent permeating the room. Still no glasses. This is partly my fault since I now must tell the Head Nurse/Unit Manager. The Aide found a box of glasses, but none were his. One of the RNs is leaving. Not sure if she is working this weekend or not. Excellent nurse. She is driving to New York to be with her daughter and husband and her grandchild. When I spoke with her, she said she would be taking a few weeks to a month off and t hen will go looking for a job. She hopes to find either a house/apartment within that time frame as well. This nurse I will miss. She is exceptional. There have been times when she has worked a second and third shift when they have been short handed.

Yes, I am still getting those migraines. I think it may be the weather and the lows that are forming. At least it looks that way. Our trees do not turn color, but rather just lose foliage towards the end of October. The pollen right now is low.

Back to normal today.🥴 Ran to the grocery store this morning and did some odds and ends around the house. Beautiful Fall day, about the same for the next whole week.🍁🍂 Getting the flu shot tomorrow and I always seem to have a sore arm for days. Oh well, no cleaning!

Thank you for your thoughtfulness on the New Year. This is the time I really miss my grandma and the smell of apples and grandpa’s wine. I can close my eyes and actually taste the apple strudel she made. I was only permitted to take one because guests would come visit after services. And, there were many.

Well, tis the season for those headaches. I was visiting hubby last night when a migraine came on. I could not leave. Poor hubby wanted me to stay the night. His roommate left the night prior. He signed himself out against the nurses and doctors. This roommate was also nice and we took turns with the TV remote. I wished him the best and hope he stays well.

Today, another migraine. This time within minutes I heard thunder and saw streaks of white against the sky. I am home. Not taking a chance to drive or for hubby to see me not OK. I will leave early tomorrow to make a stop at the Farmer’s Market and then on to see hubby. The weather here is quite humid though the temps are in the mid 80s. Still watching the tropics, especially on the Gulf Coast. Hopefully, the cooling jet stream will keep the thing in that area from becoming a hurricane. However, we will be seeing a rain event and to think the roofers are returning on Saturday to install a couple of downspouts and to check the roof peaks that came a part. They are in our carport. How they ended up in that area is anyone’s guess.

I ordered plant staples for our plants in front. They are enjoying the rain, but the blooms are taking a nose dive downwards which is against HOA policy. The staples came yesterday and I was able to pull the stems upward and use the staples to keep them in that position. Seems to be working, however I have some poles coming tomorrow just in case with butterfly clips. These poles are clear so they won’t be noticed unless you get up close. This is one time I hate rules. The blooms looked so pretty as they were cascading downward. Oh well……

I forget what 40 degrees felt like. We are now in the mid 80s to low 90s during the day with temps in the mid 79s at night. Though the temps are a bit cooler, the humidity is quite high so it doesn’t feel that cool. December and January are usually the cooler months with temps in the 60s during the day and mid 50s nighttime. I wonder if this year we will see snow in Florida?? I will leave you with that thought.

I was not feeling well due to some sinus issues and I forgot to ask how are things
now that you have power back on. I know what it is like to go without power for days
or hours it is annoying. I am glad things are getting back to normal in that area for you.

I am having a very busy day going back and forth taking things out. I love doing it.

I am making a nice roast in my slow cooker and it smells so good. 💕😎 I love Fall because
