NATIONAL WAGYU DAY

June 21 is National Wagyu Day on the National Day Calendar® to celebrate the delicacy of Wagyu and spread awareness about the rigorous authentication process taken for Wagyu. For an entire day, we are celebrating alongside steak and beef enthusiasts, plus encouraging everyone to experience the delicious taste of the finest beef in the world.

National Wagyu Day invites seasoned Wagyu connoisseurs as well as first timers to celebrate the delicacy of Wagyu. In addition, to make the distinction between Japanese, American, and Australian Wagyu known. Also, the authentication process. Authenticating Wagyu, especially authentic Japanese Wagyu, is a complex process with strict regulations and controls. Wagyu, meaning Japanese cattle, refers to four specific breeds of beef cattle that originated in Japan. These unique breeds of cattle produce a type of marbled beef that have an extreme tenderness and a rich, savory flavor when cooked. In fact, the tenderness of the meat creates a melt-in-your mouth experience.

American Wagyu comes crossbreeding full blood Wagyu cattle with Angus. Japanese Wagyu cattle are bred solely as authentic because Japanese Wagyu cattle has been only bred in Japan. One way to tell the difference between American and Japanese Wagyu is Japanese Wagyu is normally boneless when imported. In addition, Japanese Wagyu will always have a Certificate of Authenticity, even if served in a restaurant. Verifying authentic Wagyu requires a cattle ID number, which is on the authentication certificate that could be obtained from a butcher or the restaurant where you are enjoying it at.

NATIONAL SELFIE DAY

Thanks to social media and the smartphone, June 21 celebrates National Selfie Day and recognizes a form of self-portrait shared across the world wide web. Today we encourage everyone to take creative, but appropriate selfies and share them on social media.

While the act of taking a selfie may predate social media, smartphones, and the word itself (which is now in the Oxford Dictionary), the popularity of taking these self-portraits keeps increasing. And the ability to take them gets easier all the time. Selfie sticks and multi-functional camera phones make it all too convenient to take these kinds of photographs as well as group selfies (aka groupies).

Selfies have become so popular, the most common types of selfies are earning names for themselves. Most of them are about documenting a moment in time, though others merely capture a look. They are called “selfies” after all. They usually feature a single person and that’s the person taking the photo. However, not all of them are about the photographer. We’ve gathered a few of them worth checking out.

NATIONAL SMOOTHIE DAY

Capitalizing on the bountiful fruits and vegetables available this time of year, National Smoothie Day on June 21 celebrates the refreshing beverage brought to you by the blender.

Using fresh ingredients, whole grains and punches of flavor, smoothies transform our fruits and veggies into a delightfully cool drink. Some smoothies incorporate herbs and spices, punching up the flavor level. The base ingredients include milk, yogurt, juice, and a blend of fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables in a variety of combinations.

You may turn a little green when you consider adding vegetables to your smoothie, but don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. Both fruit and vegetable smoothies can pack in the nutrients, but be careful, the calories can also add up. Making smart choices will help keep your smoothies on the healthier side:

Limit your boosters – Ingredients like nut butters, seeds, grains and protein powders increase the fat and calories. While these ingredients add flavor and even nutrients, include them in small portions. You can also limit them to 1-2 per smoothie.
Control portion size – Just like our regular meals, smoothies can become oversized. Monitor the portion size for your main ingredients so that when your smoothie is complete, the calories and fat add up to a balanced serving. For example, one cup of berries, half a cup of yogurt and a tablespoon of a nut butter shouldn’t put you over.
Avoid juices – Prepared juices add calories. If you need a little more sweetness, consider adding a calorie-free sweetener or limiting the juice to just a splash.
Add veggies – Spinach, beets, kale and zucchini are just a few of the veggies that add nutrients and fiber without adding a lot of calories. And these veggies don’t add any offputting flavors.
Add a little spice – Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and turmeric add flavor without adding calories. They also provide us with other benefits as well. Cinnamon, for example, may help lower blood sugar and blood pressure.
Smoothies make a terrific meal substitute, too. When you’re craving something sweet or need an energy boost, a smoothie can be the answer. In fact, smoothies are great for weight loss because of the use of fruits and berries. The fruit will also help you feel full longer. NATIONAL TAKE YOUR DOG TO WORK DAY

Every year on the Friday after Father’s Day, employees across the country bring their dogs for National Take Your Dog to Work Day. A celebration of the companionship between canine and human, National Take Your Dog to Work Day hopes to inspire others to adopt from shelters and humane societies.

Those in the pet supply business may find this to be an everyday occurrence. With pets being central to their business platform, employees bring their dogs to work frequently. Companies such as Petco, Petsmart, Mars Petcare, Trupanion, and Nestle Purina Petcare all have pet-friendly policies. So, every day is Take Your Dog to Work Day at these companies.

However, not only pet companies are dog friendly these days. Tech and marketing businesses seem to be next in line for offering this perk to employees. Amazon, Airbnb, Procore Technologies, Vungle, and Radio Systems Corporation are just a few of the companies across the nation supporting pet-friendly policies.

Are there benefits to having a dog by your side all day? As any business knows, policies like these come with pros and cons.

Pros of Pet-Friendly Policies

Perhaps the number one benefit of dogs at work is the reduced stress for most employees. Studies have shown pets in the workplace not only reduce stress but also increase productivity.

The first skateboards were shorter surfboards upgraded with wheels. Since then, every modification has enabled skateboarders to develop more sophisticated and higher tricks.

NATIONAL PEACHES ‘N’ CREAM DAY

Observed annually on June 21, National Peaches ‘n’ Cream Day recognizes a sweet way to eat ripened peaches. It’s also a perfect way to begin and end the summer solstice.

Peaches’ n’ Cream is a simple, traditional, and delicious summertime dessert. Of course, the Georgia peach is in season during the month of June, as are those grown in Florida, California, and South Carolina. Make some homemade vanilla ice cream to sweeten the deal, and your peaches’ n’ cream will be all the cooler.

Almost any seasonal fruit goes well with chilled cream, and peaches are no exception. The sweetness of the fruit combines with the silkiness of the cream for a refreshing summer treat. It’s so delicious, we keep coming back for more!

It’s interesting to note that doctors theorize Typhoid Mary may have spread the bacteria through cut up raw peaches in frozen ice cream. So, wash those hands vigorously!

With peaches just coming into season, it’s a good time to keep an eye out for them. Generally speaking, there are two types of peaches – freestone and clingstone. The flesh determines the kind of peach. How the flesh comes away from the stone or the pit in the middle of the peach gives it the name. When the meat comes away freely from the stone, the peach is a freestone peach; if the flesh clings to the peach, it’s a clingstone.

The experience yesterday with the new dentist was awesome. Just before he started on a root canal he asked if I was comfortable. I said I was and all I really needed was a pillow. I was just being my giddy self. Didn’t expect anything. But, there it was, a pillow. LOL. Watching “Tom and Jerry” was like the old days in a movie theater. Brought back tons of memories. Never had a dentist or an experience like this. Cannot wait to tell hubby. What I also liked was that they look every which way to save teeth. Implants is a resort they take if it needs to be done. In the long run it will save your jaw bones and will make your other teeth last longer.

I am taking today off to run some errands and then will see hubby. There is a big difference in the price of gas between Costco and Sam’s Club. Gas at Costco is 3.09. Sam’s is over $3.30. First time I have ever seen a big difference. Usually, it’s just pennies.

It is another hot and blistery day. A small window for rain around 5pm. I’m hoping for a rainy weekend.

Good evening in these parts the news media always talk about weather. I watch with
interest because they cover more then hot or cold they talk about the pollen and other
things that affect our health especially the sinus and lungs.

Oodie when I had that bad fall during an Ice Storm I had not watched the news that
morning I knew something was strange when the school I can see from my home did
not have children or cars. I was not paying attention I was looking elsewhere and I went
from looking at the sky to hitting my head on Ice and Cement in front of my house. I was
stunned as I have never fallen before had I known it was Ice and there was a warning I
would not have went out. I had Poppy leash in my hand still and he did not try to run away.

Poppy stayed right with me. Remember our son was still home and made me call my
doctor all the kids were on the phone and my doctor told me exactly what to do. My doctor
does not play around if you have a serious issue that may require medical attention she will
advise me to go straight to the ER. I watched for all the signs and I was fine all I had was
a goose egg bump. LOL! Hey it took a while for it to go away. I am thankful nothing else
was injured all that week I sent Poppy out in the back to his spot. My poor baby did the
best he could. So I take weather reporting very serious.

Oodie I hope you had a good day. Hey @71flowerchild posted and I am very happy about
that. I was worried about them being in Ruidoso they are fine and so is their property but
others not so much. Prayers up for all affected by this fire.

I lost a close relative yesterday on my father’s side. I also had a nephew get hit
by a car and he is in the hospital pretty banged up. My posting will be a wee bit

We went and visited our neighbors who recently returned from seeing a few concerts in Vegas which included Ringo. Lucky them! Then once home I ended up doing a bit of cleaning.
I found some gross bugs hanging from the ceiling in the garage so I cleaned the whole area and tossed some items

Sad to hear about Ruidoso and all those fires. Sheba, I keep a go-box that I can grab near my bedroom door. I prepared it years ago when we had helicopters flying over the house and general area due to a fire in the next City. It was a big fire maybe there were two, I realized that my stuff was not together. It’s not a great go-box but it should help. Although it’s plastic (so I can carry it).

I haven’t posted in so long, I’m not sure where this will show up.
I do check in from time to time and happened to see what you wrote about our New Mexico cabin.
Our little neighborhood community in Ruidoso has been devastated by the current wildfires. 18 homes were lost, 4 ok that we know of and 4 unsure of.
We were getting ready to leave home to go up there by end of June, so we weren’t there yet, but most of the Texas neighbors were already there. On Monday, they and the full time residents received the Evacuation notice.
I’ve talked with most of them and their stories are horrific and absolutely heartbreaking.
Our home is one of the 4 that survived. One of the neighbors stayed in the Walmart parking lot on the outskirts of town and drove back into the neighborhood the next morning before the roads were closed off and took pictures.
We are thankful everyone and fur babies got out safely.
Im sorry my first post back is a sad one.

SUMMER BEGINS

On the longest day of the year, Summer Begins in the Northern Hemisphere. It is also known as the Summer Solstice, which happens either on June 20th, 21st, or 22nd. It all depends on the time zone in which you live.

With the Summer Solstice, the astronomical calendar marks the first day of summer as the Earth’s axis is pointed toward the sun. It’s rays more directly impact the Northern Hemisphere giving us more daylight and more warmth. It’s a time when plants grow rapidly and animals are more active. That includes humans.

Many schools are out of session during the summer which gives families the opportunity to take vacations. Even those without children take time to explore the outdoors through camping, hiking, and biking. Community pools open, inviting everyone to cool off on hot summer days. The beaches are open, too. Water adventures in the form of kayaking, canoeing, skiing, and fishing entice us to the rivers and lakes.

Gardners and farmers spend time cultivating their bounty and watching the skies for foul weather. And speaking of fouls – baseball, softball, and soccer teams take the field with cheering fans in every color of the rainbow.

There’s so much to do during the summer, we try to pack it all in over weekends and short breaks. But it never seems to be enough time. Before we know it, summer is over. Though, it’s only just begun.

NATIONAL SEASHELL DAY | JUNE 20, 2024

June 20 is the first day of summer and National Seashell Day reminds us to put our toes in the sand and admire the beauty of seashells.

Shellers get ready to shellebrate and start shelling! To those not in the know, shellers are beachcombers who collect seashells by scouring the beaches for the gems left behind by snails and mollusks. National Seashell Day is here to tell you all about it and make sure you check out your local beaches during the prime shelling season.

For a sheller, the true tulip or lettered olive is almost more mesmerizing than the ocean sunset. Or maybe it’s the hunt for the rare or the unique specimen. These jewels of the sandy beaches, the king’s crown conch, the apple murex, or even a pear whelk dazzle beachcombers. Their names are as musical and colorful as your adventure will be, so grab your bucket and head out around sunrise or sunset. Seashells are waiting for you!

Tips for Shellers:

Never collect live shells. When in doubt, always put them gently back in the water.
Check local ordinances. Only take a small number. Shells are part of the ecosystem helping to preserve and create the beaches we enjoy visiting.
The best time for shelling is one hour before and one hour after low tide.
Follow the high tide shell line where the largest waves stop.
Watch for full and new moons. They have a higher gravitation pull on the tide and reveal more seashells.
Storms churn up the ocean floor sending more shells to the surface and the shore for collection.

NATIONAL VANILLA MILKSHAKE DAY

On June 20 each year, National Vanilla Milkshake Day celebrates the cold beverage made with vanilla ice cream, vanilla, and milk.

This frosty drink didn’t begin with those three ingredients, though. In 1885, the term “milkshake” showed up in print for the first time. The concoction of cream, eggs, and whiskey was often served with other alcoholic tonics such as lemonades and soda waters.

By 1900, a milkshake often referred to “wholesome drinks made with chocolate, strawberry or vanilla syrups.” In these frothy beverages, ice cream was nowhere to be found. However, a few years later in the early 1900s, people began asking for this new treat with a scoop of ice cream. By the 1930s, malt shops were serving milkshakes all over the United States.

Maybe you want to top off your vanilla milkshake with a little bit of whipped cream and a cherry on top!!

NATIONAL ICE CREAM SODA DAY

On June 20 enjoy a cool, frothy ice cream soda to celebrate National Ice Cream Soda Day!

There are many claims to the invention of this delicious treat. One such claim was made by a Mr. Robert McCay Green. According to Green, he created the beverage in 1874 in Philadelphia when he ran out of ice for his shaved ice treats. Once he began substituting ice cream, he had a hit on his hands. Green even included in his will that his gravestone read, “Here lies the originator of the ice cream soda.”

Philip Mohr of Elizabeth, New Jersey would mix soda water with ice cream to make the drink colder. His practice took place as early as 1862 beating out Mr. Green’s claim.

Advertisements in an 1862 Newport Daily News for Sheld’s celebrating Ice Cream Soda encourage customers to “Try It, Try It, Try It, It.” By the looks of it, it was something new at the time.

Whenever the ice cream soda was invented, it was certainly a winning combination. For generations, we have been enjoying these creamy carbonated desserts at pharmacies and soda fountains across the country.

ANNE AND SAMANTHA DAY

Celebrated bi-annually on the summer solstice and the winter solstice, Anne and Samantha Day honors Anne Frank and Samantha Smith.

Anne Frank
Anne Frank moved generations with the words she recorded in her diary – the diary of a young Jewish girl. Born June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt, Germany, on the cusp of one of the most significant upheavals in world history, she was the second daughter of Otto and Ruth Frank.

The Frank family fled Nazi Germany for the relative safety of Amsterdam, Netherlands after Germany began its campaign in 1939 by attacking Poland. By 1942, the Netherlands would be occupied by the Nazis as well.

Weeks after receiving a red checkered diary for her 13th birthday, Anne’s family and the families of her father’s employees were forced into hiding. The year was 1942. Anne and her family survived in hiding in the empty space at the back of her father’s company building. It was here Anne wrote daily. Her diary became a place of solace when despair was overwhelming.

In August of 1944, betrayal split her family apart, separating the men from the women. The Germans forced the Franks into hard labor under brutal conditions in concentration camps. Her father would be the only family member to survive. He would later discover Anne’s diary left behind.

Samantha Smith
The daughter of an instructor of college literature and a social worker, Samantha Smith, was born June 29, 1972.

When she was ten years old, she sought to understand the Cold War between the United States and Russia by writing a letter to the Soviet leader, Yuri Andropov.

While her letter was published in the Soviet newspaper, Pravda, she did not receive a response from Andropov. Not to be discouraged, she sent a letter to the Soviet Union’s Ambassador to the United States asking if there would be a response from Andropov.

A Reply

On April 26, 1983, she received a reply. Andropov addressed each of the young girl’s questions in a lengthy letter which included an invitation to visit the Soviet Union.

In America and in our country there are nuclear weapons — terrible weapons that can kill millions of people in an instant. But we do not want them to be ever used. That’s precisely why the Soviet Union solemnly declared throughout the entire world that never — never — will it use nuclear weapons first against any country. In general we propose to discontinue further production of them and to proceed to the abolition of all the stockpiles on Earth. – Yuri Andropov

Samantha soon became known as “America’s Youngest Ambassador.” She traveled to the Soviet Union and wrote a book about her visit. She traveled the world participating in peacemaking activities and became an actress in the television series Lime Street.

Her young life was cut short at the age of 13 when the plane she was traveling in crashed on August 25, 1985.

Forgot to mention that hubby has a new roommate. Not sure if he has visitors. He arrived last Friday. Hubby says he’s OK.

Wednesday, I bit into something and cracked a tooth. For the last two years I have been looking for a dentist in our area. The first one I tried wanted to give me implants. The second one had a chair all the way down to the floor. That was not a good idea. Others had the same idea. But when I cracked the tooth, I knew I had to find someone fast. Well, talk about using the computer. But, I found one and decided to give it a try. They took me right away (an hour after my phone call) Completed some paperwork and met the dental assistant and the dentist. Very friendly atmosphere and all questions asked and answered. Watched cartoons during the entire process. Not only did I lose a tooth but also had a root canal. Complete opposite of others that I have been to. My cheek is swollen, other than that I’m OK. Didn’t see hubby. It’s after 7:30 pm. Haven’t eaten anything today. Soft food for the next three weeks. Guess I’m on the same diet as hubby. I made a great choice.

Another warm one today but at least it is partly cloudy so the sun isn’t beating down non-stop. We may even get a little shower. 90’s through Saturday and Sunday 88, like that is going to make a big difference.🙄 Hubs will be toasty on the golf course.

JUNETEENTH
Each year on June 19, we celebrate Juneteenth to commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. The celebration takes place each year on June 19th, recognizing an event that took place in Texas in 1865.

The story of Juneteenth begins in Texas when Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston on June 19, 1865, with an announcement. As the community listened to the reading of General Orders, Number 3, the people of Galveston learned for the first time that the Civil War was over. After more than a century of slavery and years of war, it was official. All slaves were now freedmen.

“…the 19th of June wasn’t the exact day the Negro was freed. But that’s the day they told them that they was free… And my daddy told me that they whooped and hollered and bored holes in trees with augers and stopped it up with [gun] powder and light and that would be their blast for the celebration.” – Haye Turner, former slave.

News traveled slowly, even stubbornly during and after the War between the States. Over two years earlier, President Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of State William H. Seward signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Only two months before Major General Granger arrived in Galveston, General Lee surrendered at Appomattox. And the country was already mourning the assassination of President Lincoln. Just weeks before Granger arrived, the official final surrender took place. And yet, this community in the west remained the last to know of their freedom. They required word, official word, to feel the effects of what was already happening in the rest of the country.

The Spread of Juneteenth
Chiefly, the celebration of Juneteenth grew from the profound experiences that day when many learned of their freedom. From that freedom, it grew out of the surmounting challenges that lay ahead. And it continues to grow from the perseverance required and the dignity to overcome adversity and achieve fulfillment.

Juneteenth is also known as Freedom Day

Year after year, waves of people pilgrimaging to Galveston stand in one of the last places to receive the news. The celebrations spread much like the news spread to Galveston about freedom, slowly at first and then picking up speed. But Galveston isn’t the only place celebrations take place. Juneteenth Jubilees happen all over the country and world. Juneteenth celebrated its 150th anniversary and celebrations spread around the globe in 2015.

In the U.S., all 50 states officially recognize the observance. In June 2021, the U.S. Congress passed legislation making Juneteenth a federal holiday. President Joseph Biden signed the legislation into law on June 18, 2021, declaring Juneteenth National Independence Day. Federal offices observe the day on the closest weekday if Juneteenth lands on the weekend.

NATIONAL WATCH DAY

On June 19 we learn about National Watch Day and recognize an industry that has been around for more than 500 years and is steadily evolving. Choosing a watch is very personal as the choices are vast and numerous. Even with the advent of smartphones and smartwatches, the classic wristwatch signals individual taste, culture, and a rich history that cannot be disputed.

Enveloped in history and nostalgia, makers crafted watches not only for telling time but as a symbol of something personal. Watches present a statement of who we are. When we pass down timepieces from generation to generation, they often become family heirlooms. Watches also serve as a rite of passage in many cultures, signifying the passage of more than just time – an era perhaps.

The iconic watch brands also paved the way for new trends like vintage-inspired, slimmer profiles, and affordable luxury. Incorporating design, re-inventing a brand’s signature look often balances traditional aesthetics with modern details. By creating and recreating new concepts, watches became a fashion accessory much like scarves and bags.

NATIONAL GARFIELD THE CAT DAY

June 19 is National Garfield the Cat Day to honor the fictional cartoon character, Garfield. Jim Davis created the comic strip Garfield and the title’s protagonist, a tabby cat by the same name. The observance celebrates Garfield and the entertainment he brings us.

Garfield launched on June 19, 1978. The strip chronicled the life of the lead character, the cat Garfield (named after Jim Davis ’s grandfather). It also introduced Garfield’s owner, Jon Arbuckle and Jon’s dog, Odie. The publication became syndicated in 2013 in roughly 2,580 newspapers and journals and holds the Guinness World Record for being the world’s most widely syndicated comic strip.

Garfield was one of the cartoon characters to appear in Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue.

Set in Muncie, Indiana, common themes in the comic strip include Garfield’s laziness, obsessive eating, love for lasagna and coffee, and hatred of Mondays and diets. While the focus is mostly upon the interaction between Garfield, Jon, and Odie, the strip introduces other characters as well.

NATIONAL FreeBSD DAY

National FreeBSD Day on June 19 commemorates the launch date of an innovative technology that many of us use every day.

The open-source operating system called FreeBSD developed out of the University of California at Berkley in 1993. Billions of people around the globe use FreeBSD to teach operating system concepts in universities. Companies also develop products on FreeBSD, and universities use it as a research platform.

While you may not be familiar with FreeBSD, there’s a good chance you’re already using at least some code derived from it in your everyday life. For example, do you stream movies via Netflix? How about chat with friends on WhatsApp? Maybe you play the latest PlayStation 4 game sensation. If so, you’re already using FreeBSD.

I hope you are keeping cool. It’s unbelievable how hot it’s been this early into the season in so many places.

Family in Brazil are still getting lots of rain. Both May and June has been a very wet month down there. Major floods that has not happened in 140 years. Thank God they are all well. My grand nephew’s secound birthday is coming up in August.

Hubby is off today, Juneteenth. We are getting some rain drops, but it clears up fast and the wind blows the rain over. I do hope for at least some good rain.

NATIONAL GO FISHING DAY

National Go Fishing Day on June 18 encourages us to drop a line – in the nearest stream, pond, lake, or river. Taking a break from our daily routine to bait a hook and catch some fish can be a relaxing endeavor.

In addition to providing food, fishing is a recreational pastime for many. Recreational fishing includes conventions, rules, licensing restrictions, and laws that limit the way in which fish may be caught. A rod, reel, line, and hooks with any one of the different forms of bait or lures, are the most common form of recreational fishing.

The practice of catching (or attempting to catch) fish with a hook is known as angling. Catch and release (returning the fish to the water to continue its life) is often the expectation or requirement by law. For others, this is a preferred form of fishing.

Hobbyists with knowledge of habitat, foraging behavior, and migration hone their fishing techniques for a successful fishing adventure. Some fishermen continue to follow fishing folklore by claiming the sun and the moon influence fish feeding patterns.

The earliest known English essay on recreational fishing was published in 1496.

During the 16th and 17th centuries, recreational fishing began to gain popularity. In 1653, Izaak Walton published a book titled, The Compleat Angler or Contemplative Man’s Recreation. Walton’s book is the definitive work championing the position of the angler who loves fishing just for the sake of it.

NATIONAL SPLURGE DAY

National Splurge Day on June 18 encourages us to break out the rainy day funds and spend a little.

Splurging doesn’t require wiping out the savings account, especially if it’s only an occasional event. Of course, splurging comes in many forms. To some, it can mean saying yes to whipped cream on your latte or that bracelet you’ve been eyeing. Received some Tuna in olive oil from Natural Catch. Makes great salads, I typically enjoy with just lettuce and tomatoes. Sometimes I add a hard boiled egg and carrots. No cucumbers for me, I don’t like them, but for hubby I do use it in his salad.

That gif reminds me so much of our visits to Asia. Most of their canvas was on silk and then framed. So many fond memories of our visit.

Well, it took until this morning to get the electricity on board. I was able to redo without contacting the electrician. I had to close down the entire panel and then start bit by bit. At least the rrig was off just for an hour while I did this. The down time was caused by a car accident in the downtown area which is also near hubby’s rehab facility. The entire town/city was without power which also included phone service until 9:30 pm. The service went out about 3:30 pm and was supposed to take no more than an hour and a half. It took 6 hours. Thankfully, my cell worked and I left a message with the Head Nurse. I didn’t visit yesterday and will not be there today. Instead I am doing laundry. I’m taking advantage of no rain, just sunshine and wind that makes our temps feel like 100 degrees. I have some errands to do tomorrow and then will head to the rehab. I may pick up something for dinner on the way since I do not like leaving things in the car with an ice pak while I gallivant here and there. Suffice to say, if I can get my act together early tomorrow, I will be able to be with hubby the entire day. The only rules for me with rehab is visiting hours start at 8am and can be with him until he feels drowsy or falls asleep.

Hope you three have a great afternoon and evening. At least no storms for us until Thursday, though it may rain tomorrow.

Sheba, Stay cool in Oz. Sounds very hot Mid West to East and South. AZ has issues with all those people trying to hike and then getting heat strokes. Lots of rescues needed.
Our weather is pretty good. You might say I am in a sweet spot. I don’t like the heat but did manage a hike of course at 1pm and inland where its what….. HOT!
Hopefully we will go out for our Fathers Day Dinner tomorrow,

Howdy from hot town USA, day #2 of seven.🔥🔥 Many people still don’t have power from yesterday’s storm. Can’t even fathom no a/c in this heat. Ours went out for about 15 seconds but popped back on. Mom lost power for five hours last evening. More scattered storms today.⛈

I had to run out to get a gift and saw some very large trees down.🌳 Hubs went to the gym about 7:00 this morning and was home quickly because the gym had no power. He still had cleanup to do in the yard today.

I did see parts of the Boston/Dallas game last night.🏀 Hope the hockey is over tonight, the season drags on too long.🏒

These diets may also help to decrease bone loss and protect against some cancers. In addition, the potassium provided may help prevent the formation of kidney stones.

It is recommended by the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans to consume 3 to 5 servings of vegetables per day. However, this recommendation may vary depending on age and gender. For example, one serving of vegetables is equivalent of 1/2 to 1 cup and can be eaten either raw or cooked.

NATIONAL APPLE STRUDEL DAY

On June 17 get whirled up in pastry dough, apples, and spices and celebrate National Apple Strudel Day. In German, the word strudel means whirlpool or eddy. This tasty dessert is perfectly described in its German language as the sweet mixture of fruit, sugar, spices, and layers of thin dough rolled together and baked. patient especially in a wheelchair.

Oodie keep your eyes open at all times when visiting your husband. Our family had to do
that when my father was in hospice.

and it could have been prevented if people would just do their jobs.

Oodie, Sorry your hubs was outside without anyone noticing. I know you said you reported this to many places which is great.
When I wrote and spoke to agencies regarding my mother, I found the lack of corrective action pathetic. They told me all they can do is visit and make sure the facility appears to follow the laws and fine them if not. No places in her home State get shut down for lack of care. Very concerning. Use caution and hope you find some in-home resources.

I reported everything. It was so hot that I decided to leave early to visit with hubby. What I didn’t mention is that the aid thought hubby was in the TV room and decided to start his rounds. Thank goodness he kept going to hubby’s room and then decided to check. He wasn’t in the TV room, and decided to check out the dining room. On the way, he just happened to look outside and saw him. He wasn’t moving that well and his face was drawn. He immediately sprang into action. This was not the first time either. It happened last year as well. This is the number one reason that I have not returned North on my own. Thank goodness I am there every day. Yes, I reported this. There are enough aids to know what is going on and to check on their patients. Each aid has one area to work on, 12 beds. If a bed is empty, then they need to check on that patient. Oh, I cannot wait to get him home. I will be leaving shortly for my visit.

This is just too much so many what if’s. So preventive I think the aids need better supervision.
I would be so worried and this is concerning.

All I can say is whaaaaat??? Time for him to be out of there, home with you and doing in-home therapy. Hard for me to understand after all this time that anyone is actually rehabbing your husband, especially after this incident. Praying this changes real soon.🙏🤞

I forgot to mention that yesterday you had a beautiful gif of a turtle in jewels. I immediately thought of HD and wouldn’t it make a nice pin, pendant, earrings, etc.. I would love to wear something like that. Most of her line that has anything to do with the summer, I put on my wide brim hat. A few of her necklaces have gone around the top. It’s just another way to wear her jewels.

I didn’t make it to rehab today. I was getting ready to change clothes when the electricity went. At first I thought it was just the wifi, It took me awhile to figure out it was not only cable but electricity as well. I immediately went to the panel and turned everything off. I received notices from Spectrum that we would be up and running before 6:30 pm. Actually, it came on just about a half hour ago. Talk about heat and humidity. The house is finally cooling and I will go back to KP. ,

Feeling better but still have a cough. Thought that would be gone by now, still not sleeping real well. Done with the antibiotics, two more steroid pills to take. Seems like everyone I talk to has some form of this except for mom and sis, thank goodness.
