This is number 34 out of the of the series.
I created and started this thread 12 years ago. 😎🎈

I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. ✨😎

I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. 🌹✨😎I have been shopping and posting on HSN since the late
90’s 😎I have wonderful memories from the HSN we all know and love.

President Lincoln signed the Amendment outlawing slavery on February 1, 1865. It was not ratified by the states, however, until later on December 18, 1865.

      @oodiebom,

      Good day on the Gulf Coast of Florida. 🎈😎I hope you are nice and toasty.

      Oz is alright today we are 30 degrees.

      I am very concerned about Shoelady and her husband. I hope they both can
      weather this storm. 🎈😎I do not like hospitals but you have to do what you
      have to do.

      If you go out please be careful. I hope you enjoyed your Pizza and Soup. 💕

      I am looking forward to spring after this winter. 😎

      @sheba2011

      We are at 45 degrees as I type. Will not venture out except to do the Recycle and Garbage for tomorrow. Temps at the time I will be leaving rehab will be in the 20s with the wind chill factor which seems to be ongoing until tomorrow sometime. Consequently, I notified the receptionist at the Rehab that I will stay home. Also, we had snow flurries this morning. That’s a first for me here. Just a little more of that white I could ask for a sleigh ride. Wishful thinking on my part.

      So sad that shoelady60 is feeling down. Not a good time for her to be picking hubby up on her own. I do hope a family member or friend will offer to help. I hope both are feeling better.

      Tomorrow begins a brief warmup with temps in the 50s. We were supposed to be in the 70s by Thursday, but, alas, just notified that there is another cold front coming that day. Maybe 70s by the weekend. This is winter. However, high temps and high humidity will be the talk in a few weeks and then I will wish for the colder months of December, January and February.

      Good morning in S. California. 💕🎈😎 Welcome to the new month. 😎🎈

      Oz is alright today we are around 30 degrees with the Sun.

      I am going for a nice walk with Poppy.

      I am deeply concerned about Shoelady60 and her husband.
      I am praying that things go well for both of them.

      Enjoy your Sunday. 🎈😎

      Sheba, I know you are worried about Shoelady and her husband. Hopefully we will hear from her soon.
      Hike today wore me out. It was (sorry for what I’m about to write) sunny and hot and at the end I slipped on some little pebbles and fell. It wasn’t a bad fall or anything. Just landed on my but. lol.

      Happy February to you and all here.

      @taci

      Sorry to hear that you fell. No fun. Pride hurts more than the fall. Take it easy the next day or so. Good excuse to sit in a tub of bubbles with some wine and a good read. Thank goodness you are OK. Looks like we will not see 70 before next weekend. Our warmup starts tomorrow and ends on Wednesday. Another cold front on Thursday. Right about now I would like some warmth. Oh well, come March I will be longing for the cooler days of November, December, January and February.

      NATIONAL HOT CHOCOLATE DAY

      Each year on January 31st, National Hot Chocolate Day warms up people across the country by celebrating the timeless cold-weather beverage.

      #NationalHotChocolateDay
      Hot chocolate is a warm beverage made with ground chocolate, heated milk or water, and sugar. In America, we often use the terms hot chocolate and hot cocoa interchangeably. However, the two beverages are different.

      INSPIRE YOUR HEART WITH ART DAY

      Always celebrated on January 31st, Inspire Your Heart With Art Day encourages us to pause and ponder how art affects our hearts and minds. While art is often appreciated for its beauty, its true value lies in its power to move us, heal us, and change the way we see the world. Let’s explore how this National Day serves as a purpose to celebrate the art of opening our minds to a new world.

      NATIONAL SEED SWAP DAY

      National Seed Swap Day on the last Saturday in January serves as a reminder to gardeners that spring is on its way. It is also an ideal time for gardeners to gather and swap seeds in preparation for starting seeds indoors.

      The seed swap is a fundamental part of human history. Seeds were one of the first commodities valued and traded. Today, modern gardeners collect and exchange seeds for many reasons ranging from cultivating rare, heirloom varieties to basic thrift. The exchange of seeds perpetuates biodiversity, too. It is an act of giving and the ultimate form of recycling.

      NATIONAL BRANDY ALEXANDER DAY

      Falling on the last day of January, National Brandy Alexander Day celebrates the creamy, brandy-based evolution of the original gin-based “Alexander.” Often considered the sophisticated cousin of the White Russian or the Mudslide, the Brandy Alexander has earned it’s place as a decadent, dessert-style cocktail.

      The Brandy Alexander is the undisputed heavyweight champion of the “Dessert Cocktail” category. While many modern drinks are sugary syrups disguised as cocktails, the Brandy Alexander is prized for being velvety, boozy, and surprisingly sophisticated. Often described by Brandy Alexander drinkers as a “Liquid Truffle,” the drink provides a unique flavor of an oaky flavor with a slightly hidden fruity taste.

      Full Snow Moon
      📅 February 1, 2026
      Known as the Snow Moon, this Full Moon rises during the coldest and snowiest nights of the year.
      Its name comes from Native American traditions, reflecting a time when deep snow covered the land and survival depended on endurance.
      As winter reaches its peak, the Moon shines brighter than ever — a quiet reminder that even the harshest seasons carry light.

      @sheba2011

      Hi. It is extremely windy here and the temps will be in the low 20s this evening and through the early hours of the am. We are under a wind and cold advisory until 9am tomorrow. It is certainly not beach weather for the snowbirds. The actual warming trend will begin Wednesday. Looks like we will need to brace for more of this in February. Oh well, welcome to New England.

      I just read Shoelady ‘s note and with her hubs in the hospital, nothing is easy. I wish someone else could bring him home when he is released. I hate the thought if she isn’t feeling well, to go out in the cold. I hope she has something warm to eat at home. In my case, I think I will make it a pizza night with soup.

      The wind chill effect will keep me from seeing hubs tonight. Going is not the problem. It’s the bitter wind that is keeping me indoors. Thankfully, the heat and hot water are working well. At least hubs will be warm when he returns home. I will be contacting another Reno company either Monday or Tuesday to get their advice and to also see if a correction can be made to the shower. This company does have beautiful vanities to choose from. I just hope they will be easy to work with and the price is right.

      Take care of yourselves. Too cold to look at the snow moon. Maybe tomorrow.

      @oodiebom,

      Good Evening and I hope you are nice and warm. 😎 I read Shoelady60 post about
      her husband and I hope and pray he does well with treatments. Hubs had it last year
      and they treated him gave him meds and sent him home.

      I can’t believe the company did not get in touch with you that is so strange.
      Oodie just relax tonight I am going in and out of the house we are in the teens
      tonight. The moon is right in front of my door and it is beautiful. 😎💕

      This is what it looks like from my front door. 💕

      Sheba, Hello! Had a layed back day here. Florida sounds so cold. I didn’t realize it got into the 20’s.
      Hope you all stay warm and don’t get sick.
      I know someone who doesn’t vaccinate and got the flu. She told me she was in the hospital for 3 days but it was due to other symptoms not the flu itself. She still has a slight cough.

      Feb already. crazy!

      Hi from the cold ‘burgh, -11 this morning.🥶 Had a tiring day yesterday. Took hubs to the hospital because he started having trouble breathing. Tested for many things and so far the conclusion is he has a bronchial infection. They are doing various respiratory treatments and, hopefully, will be home tomorrow. I just hope I’m not next. I was so exhausted when I got home I could hardly walk up the steps. Didn’t go over today because I’m tired, too cold and what can I do? He’ll make it a day without me. All the lovely nurses can take care of him.😂

      Hope to sit down and enjoy the game.🏒 Watched the Australian women’s finals this morning.🎾

      Hope all is well at your house with you, hubs, Poppy and the kitties. Sending frigid hugs to all.🤗💖

      @shoelady60,

      Good Evening Lady I am so sorry to hear that your husband is in the hospital.
      I knew something was going on when he said why have the meds not kicked in
      now we know. I understand this because last year my husband had bronchial infection
      as well. Lady at the time hubby not admitted but they did several treatments on him
      and gave him medicine and sent him home where he stayed in bed for a few days.

      You are a different story and I am glad you have family and friends who can pick up
      hubby as long as they mask up. Lady if you are too tired do not drive. Let’s hope you
      can ride this out. Please let us know how you are feeling.

      I also want to say congrats on your Hockey Team winning today. I hope it puts a smile
      on your face. I am sure hubby is being taken care of I just hate he had to stay in the
      hospital.

      Like I posted earlier this has been a brutal winter for a lot of people.

      Please rest and let me know how things are going if you can.

      @shoelady60

      I just read your note and hope you are feeling better. I hate the thought if you are feeling under the weather to drive to the hospital to get your hubs tomorrow. This is one time I wish there was someone you could ask. I hope things start picking up soon. Two things come to mind that may help both of you. One is an air purifier and the other is a warm and cool air humidifier. Both of these could help with breathing during the cold spell. I have both and do not use them every day, just when needed. I do like the air purifier and the one I use does not require a filter change. It is washable. The other is a tank that you fill with water. It can sit on a table or a floor. It gives out a cool or warm mist that is good for the nostrils and throat. Tea with a little bit of honey and lemon is also good. I am not saying Manuka because everyone has their own taste. I also recently started on Andrew Lessman’s Gingko with Ginseng and it seems to be working. I also added his Energy vitamins as well.

      You look at me and, babe, I wanna catch on fire

      You found the light in me that I couldn’t find
      … So when I’m all choked up
      And I can’t find the words

      NATIONAL CROISSANT DAY

      In the United States, National Croissant Day recognizes a flaky pastry enjoyed at every meal. Croissants are buttery, crescent-shaped rolls that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

      The key to a perfect croissant is laminating the dough. You laminate the dough by folding butter into the mixture creating multiple thin layers of butter and dough. The result is a mouth-watering flaky crust and airy body.

      Legend surrounds this pastry, as is often the case with a popular, worldly treat. What is known, is that crescent-shaped breads have been found around the world for ages. One of these was the Kipferl which originated in Austria as far back as the 13th century. This nonlaminated bread is more like a roll.

      Credit for the croissant we know today is given to an Austrian military officer, August Zang. In 1839 he opened a Viennese bakery in Paris introducing France to Viennese baking techniques.

      @sheba2011

      Good Evening. Had a nice visit with hubs and now home. Tomorrow the 60s will start the day and by the time I leave the Rehab the wind will be blowing and the high temps will succumb to the lows which could be in the 20s due to the strong winds and thus the wind chill factor. Tampa may see some snow flurries and though we are 45 miles South, we also could be caught in this new, chilling weather phenomenon

      I actually slept on and off during the night. I expected the plumber between 8am and Noon. He showed a little after 9am. He figured the hot water heater was approximately 25 years old. He said he would replace the old one next week and would call for the day and time. I thought for sure he would be leaving, but he stayed in his truck and then returned to where I was sitting outside. Turned out that he could replace everything today and he did that without any problems. I now can use the hot water heater and do not worry about the length of time doing things around the house. Excellent plumber.

      Good evening. I just returned home from visiting hubs. My morning went well. I was ahead of schedule until it was time to find a parking spot. Twenty minutes later, in the balcony section, finally found a place. I actually told the receptionist I was in Italy. Few minutes later I met the new physician who took over my original one who retired December 23rd. Very nice physician and she spent over an hour with me. My labs were over the roof and considering that three weeks ago I was trying to stand after a huge trip and fall. I need to thank Andrew Lessman since it was and still is his vitamins that keep me going. The labs were the best yet. On another note, I will return in four months. No labs needed.

      Found out today that hubs may not have dementia. He becomes really concerned when I do not show and thinks I’m not telling him that I may be ill. I told the RN that if he would pick up the phone I would tell him the reason. I do mention this to the receptionist so he does not worry. Tomorrow, I have the plumber coming in the morning. They gave me a 4hr window and I hope that we will have a new Hot water tank by the end of the day or prior. I have enough heat and the thermostat is staying at 70 degrees. The hot water in the shower goes from hot to lukewarm in a matter of minutes. That is the main concern. I will know when he does the testing.

      Our weather was very sunny today. Temps were almost 70 and right now, as I type, it is 49. Tomorrow will be the last of our warming trend. Saturday we will return to the brutal cold and the temps will not hit 70 until Thursday of next week. I love the robe that feels like a blanket and will probably use it over the weekend. That’s it for now. Have a great evening. Stay warm.

    Let It Go
    Song by Idina Menzel

    The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
    Not a footprint to be seen
    A kingdom of isolation
    And it looks like I’m the queen
    The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
    Couldn’t keep it in, heaven knows I tried
    Don’t let them in, don’t let them see
    Be the good girl you always have to be
    Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know
    Well, now they know
    Let it go, let it go
    Can’t hold it back anymore
    Let it go, let it go
    Turn away and slam the door
    I don’t care what they’re going to say
    Let the storm rage on
    The cold never bothered me anyway
    It’s funny how some distance makes everything seem small
    And the fears that once controlled me can’t get to me at all
    It’s time to see what I can do
    To test the limits and break through
    No right, no wrong, no rules for me
    I’m free
    Let it go, let it go
    I am one with the wind and sky
    Let it go, let it go
    You’ll never see me cry
    Here I stand and here I stay
    Let the storm rage on
    My power flurries through the air into the ground
    My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
    And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
    I’m never going back, the past is in the past
    Let it go, let it go
    And I’ll rise like the break of dawn
    Let it go, let it go
    That perfect girl is gone
    Here I stand in the light of day
    Let the storm rage on
    The cold never bothered me anyway

      LIBRARY SHELFIE DAY

      The fourth Wednesday in January offers a unique opportunity for book lovers on Library Shelfie Day.

      Some collectors of books tend to arrange their collections so their spines can be admired pleasantly. Others have a system of organization that results in an alternative art form. However our books are organized on the shelf, they are meant to be photographed and shared on social media.

      Library Shelfies offer book stores, libraries, schools, and individuals an opportunity to express their reading preferences through a single photograph. Whether they frame their favorite authors, titles, genres or cover art, readers share a bit of their library in creative ways. With or without dust jackets, signed and unsigned, dogeared and in mint condition, bibliophiles love books of all kinds.

      DATA PRIVACY DAY

      Data Privacy Day on January 28th reminds us each year to review how our data is used. It’s an excellent opportunity to take stock and evaluate our personal cybersecurity.

      Our personal data is collected and used through a variety of media and for numerous reasons. Part of the problem is most of the time, the people who have access to our data, don’t need it. Additionally, it gets redistributed legally and illegally. Thanks to the internet, massive amounts of personal data can be easily distributed. While the information may be out there due to our own carelessness or privacy violations, there are steps you can take to protect yourself.

      Everyone needs to protect their data. Even if you don’t use smartphones and computers, the companies and organizations you frequent do. And while they follow their own practices to protect client information, it’s important to also protect yourself. You are your best advocate.

      Data Privacy Tips
      On any new device, set your privacy settings immediately. This includes new applications, social media, and programs.
      Never use unsecured Wi-Fi – especially for banking or shopping.
      Check your bank and credit card statements regularly. When you spot anything questionable, contact the organization to stop payment on the purchase and cancel your card. In the same vein, check your credit report at least annually.
      Keep your software up to date. Out-of-date software is vulnerable to hackers.
      Never give personal information over the phone, email, or text.
      Stop taking online quizzes that ask random questions about your childhood, children, tattoos, marriages, pets, and favorite foods. Each time you take one of these, people trying to access your data gather a little bit more information about you that allows them to steal your data or identity.
      Use strong password phrases. The longer the password, the harder it is to break.
      Do not save your passwords on your device.
      Change passwords when your accounts may have been compromised or when you visit the dentist.
      Use virus protection and a firewall.

      NATIONAL KAZOO DAY

      National Kazoo Day on January 28th recognizes nearly 200 years of kazoo music in the United States. The day also encourages playing and learning about the kazoo.

      The instrument requires little effort to create a sound. However, some skill is necessary to make intelligible music. This simple instrument also adds comedic punctuations to just about any childhood song. The great thing about the kazoo is, if you can hum, you can play!

      @oodiebom,

      Good day on the Gulf Coast of Florida. 😎🎈Oodie I did read your post from last night.
      Oodie I don’t think that place has a cook no one would serve something like that to
      anyone. I think your husband deserves better.

      This is a multi task day for me and I know your schedule is full good luck with
      the contractors.

      Hey here in OZ 55 degrees is a heat wave I have seen people barely wearing clothes
      when the temps are 55 degrees. LOL! 😎Oz is a bit sunny today so that helps a lot.
      I am watching one of the cats bathe in the sunlight she does that everyday the sun
      is out. 😎🎈I love Miss Kitty.

      Oodie stay warm and it’s so strange to say that to you. I am wearing my Hoodie Robe
      and it feels so soft and warm. 💕 Oodie take care and let me know how things go for
      you today.

      @sheba2011

      Yesterday, you asked about the renovations. The last time I heard from the owner was either a Thursday or Friday just prior to Christmas week. He was asking if the following Monday would be OK to get together and to go over the plans for the rest of the bathroom remodel. At that point I had said no only because I needed the time to pick out things for the three shifts of nurses and aides. I already had the gifts for the reception staff. I also planned on having a Christmas lunch with hubby which was already paid. I gave him the following week as an alternative and never heard from him again. Then last week the PR person contacted me and said he would be calling me in a few days. Well those few days have come and gone and rather waiting I decided to reach out to another contractor that does bathroom remodels from start to finish. I do like the way the shower came out, however, the owner never touched basis with his contractor to tell him that my hubs uses a wheelchair. Consequently there is a shower pole for a curtain standing in the bathroom. This room is small, but pictures show some shower stalls smaller than ours with a partition to prevent water cascading onto the floor and a complete walk-in or in hubby’s case, a wheelchair in. Since the flooring needs to be redone from bottom to top, this may not be as extensive as I imagine it to be. I will find out next week.

      These cold days have been somewhat tough. The back part of our home has had problems heating during the day. Night time it is fine. However, I am noticing that the hot water needs to be pushed almost to the top. Luckily, I have a plumber and he called this morning. I had told him of the problem, but felt last night the heat was not questionable. In the Northeast, the electric company sometimes pulls back on the electricity to prevent a loss to their customers. He mentioned that the samething is done here. However, he will be here Friday morning to check on the water heaters just to be sure. I have a feeling they will need to be replaced and that is OK. At least when hubs returns home this will no longer be an issue.

      We’ were a bit warmer today. Temps this afternoon in the 50s. It is now47 as I type. Highs tomorrow and Friday in the 60s. Colder weather beginning Saturday with a warm up starting next Thursday when we will return to the 70s. We still have all of February to go through before we spring ahead.

      @oodiebom,

      Good Evening oh boy what a plate full of stuff you have. All you can do is one step
      at a time. Wonder why they don’t return your calls. Oodie i am praying that everything
      works out for both you and hubby. 😎🎈

      Oodie keep your warm hoodie robe near you just in case it gets too chilly.

      Oz is in the 20’s and I am very warm. 🎈😎The weather people have said this is
      the warmest we will get during the next few days.

      I am keeping a watchful eye on the animals so far so good. 😎🎈

      I would get a good warm cup of tea and a good book or puzzle and just let it be. 😎

      I hope you enjoy your evening things will come together and your husband should
      be home soon. 💕

      It’s nice to get outside.
      Had my hair colored and cut today.
      Had some computer issues the last few days and just couldn’t figure it out. Hubs re-routed me on the WI Fi and I think that fixed it.
      Plants…I’ll most likely try 2-3 new succulent plants in front as they always seem to thrive here.

      The weather shows we will not be above freezing for 7-10 days. So it will be a sloooow melt for all this snow. I’m just worried about pipes. It’s been a long time since we had this much snow and cold for this long, sigh.

      Hubs feels about the same, medicine hasn’t kicked in yet. I’m having a slight relapse. I was so tired yesterday.🥱 Between the two of us, my house is germ city.

      You are correct – 55 degrees is shorts and tank top weather!🩳👕

      As someone who often finds herself in the role of the caregiver, the planner, the listener, I sometimes forget that I also need to pause and refill my own cup. It’s easy to get caught up in giving and supporting others, but this quote is such a gentle reminder that even those who love to care for others need the same kindness returned to them.
      It’s not selfish to need rest. It’s not weak to ask for help. And it’s okay to crave those little moments when someone else takes the reins, even if just for a while.
      So here’s to all the healers, planners, and givers out there – don’t forget to make space for your own healing, surprises, and joy. You’re not just deserving of care, you’re worthy of it.
      Let this be the year we balance the scales, nurturing ourselves as much as we nurture others 🩷

      @sheba2011

      That meal hubs ate last night left a lot to be desired. The pulled pork was in a sauce and the green veggie I only guessed at. It looked like it was overcooked, had burnt edges. This meal would have been a sulfite nightmare. I’m not sure if there is a new cook, but I will let it be known that it really looked horrid. This meal would have cost me $4 and a trip to the ER. Thankfully, I had made some soup and had that later. I used Curtis Stone’s new 12 quart food warmerr with a handle and it really came in handy. I also packed the plug just in case, but the food was still quite warm a few hours later.

      I did not see hubs today. During the day the temps never went above 55 and I had the heat on. However, the back of our home had too much heat and the front had nothing. Consequently, I didn’t lift a finger until tonight. I did contact the plumber who will call when he is coming out. However, here’s the clincher. The entire house is now heated and I had to turn the thermostat down. I have no idea what is going on unless our electric company is doing something during the day which is possible. We will have the wind chill effect from midnight until 9am tomorrow. Temps will be near 25 degrees when you add it up. I have the robe hoodie blanket so I will be fine.

      Well, back to the KP. Have a great evening. Stay warm. We will be back to warmer days the end of next week.

      Cher walked onto the Oscars stage in 1988 dressed like a joke, and then made Hollywood choke on it.
      The night should have ended her credibility.
      She arrived at the Academy Awards wearing Bob Mackie’s infamous black feathered headdress, bare midriff, sequins everywhere. Fashion critics laughed. Columnists sharpened knives. The industry had already decided what the outfit meant, Cher wanted attention, not respect.
      Then her name was called.
      Best Actress.
      Moonstruck.
      In one moment, the room shifted.
      Cher didn’t cry. She didn’t apologize. She didn’t soften. She stepped to the microphone and delivered one of the most quietly confrontational acceptance speeches in Oscar history.
      “I want to thank the Academy for showing me that they have a sense of humor,” she said, eyes locked forward.
      It landed like a dare.
      What most people missed was how calculated the moment was. Cher had spent years being dismissed as a novelty, a singer who wandered into acting, a woman too flamboyant to be taken seriously. Studios doubted her. Critics called her limited. Even after Silkwood, the skepticism lingered.
      So she leaned into it.
      She knew exactly how Hollywood saw her, loud, excessive, unserious. Instead of fighting the stereotype, she weaponized it. The dress was not rebellion. It was exposure. She showed them the version of Cher they mocked, then stood there holding the industry’s highest honor.
      The contrast was impossible to ignore.
      Behind the scenes, Cher had fought for Moonstruck. She took the role seriously when others didn’t. She studied courtroom behavior. She stripped back her instincts. Director Norman Jewison later said she understood the character’s restraint better than anyone expected, and that expectation was the problem.
      That Oscar night forced a recalibration.
      Hollywood had to confront something it hated admitting, that flamboyance and intelligence were not opposites. That a woman could be theatrical and disciplined. That confidence was not evidence of shallowness.
      Cher didn’t beg to be taken seriously.
      She made seriousness irrelevant.
      The feathers became legend. The speech became history. And the lesson stuck, at least for a moment, that power does not always arrive in a tuxedo, sometimes it shows up glittering, unapologetic, and already five steps ahead of the room.
      Cher didn’t win despite being Cher.
      She won because she understood exactly how to be Cher, on her terms.
