National Drive-Thru Day on July 24 recognizes an innovation conveniently going strong today. The drive-thru reached its iconic zenith in the 1950s but stayed strong through the ’60s, ’70s and beyond. People have enjoyed this service since the 1930s.

NATIONAL THERMAL ENGINEER DAY

National Thermal Engineer Day on July 24th recognizes the crucial contributions of thermal engineers—the minds behind keeping our modern tech cool, safe, and efficient. Chosen because July 24th is typically one of the hottest days of the year, it’s the perfect time to tip our hats to the professionals who manage heat so our tech doesn’t break a sweat.

NATIONAL COUSINS DAY

National Cousins Day on July 24 recognizes the unique, lifelong relationships that grow among cousins. Our very first friendships often form with cousins as young as infants and can endure a lifetime. The day celebrates cousins of every age—from brand-new baby cousins to cousins whose own babies are all grown up!

Whether cousins grow up together in close-knit families or only see each other occasionally, they share special memories rooted in common grandparents, aunts, and uncles. At family gatherings, cousins keep each other entertained—and occasionally get into mischief together, too! They celebrate birthdays, share inside jokes, and might even blow out each other’s candles (much to the birthday kid’s annoyance).

When siblings irritate us, cousins instantly become allies. For only children, cousins often feel like the brothers and sisters they never had. As cousins grow up, watching their own children play together brings back fond childhood memories, starting the beautiful cycle all over again.

NATIONAL TEQUILA DAY

On July 24th, commemorate National Tequila Day with a little lime and salt. Mix up a Margarita, Paloma, or a Mamasita to celebrate the day! People have been making Tequila for centuries, and it was once known as pulque (fermented agave juice).

In fact, Tequila is mezcal, but mezcal isn’t Tequila. That’s because Tequila is distilled from a specific type of agave plant. Also, the law protects its production. Take a sip, and we’ll travel into Tequila’s history.

NATIONAL AMELIA EARHART DAY

Each year on July 24, National Amelia Earhart Day honors the achievements of the aviation pioneer on the date of her birth.

Author and American aviation pioneer, Amelia Mary Earhart was born on July 24, 1897. One of Earhart’s most impressive achievements took place on May 20th, 1932. Earhart took off from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland and flew solo across the Atlantic ocean.

Throughout the flight, she faced many technical difficulties. Her goal was to land in Paris, France. Due to Earhart’s challenges in flight, she landed the red Lockheed Vega 14 hours and 56 minutes later in Northern Ireland. All in all, the flight was a success. She became the first woman pilot to complete the journey. Following Earhart’s record-setting accomplishment, she earned the United States Distinguished Flying Cross.

In 1937, Earhart attempted to circumnavigate the globe. Unfortunately, her Purdue-funded Lockheed Model 10 Electra disappeared over the Pacific Ocean near Howland Island in July.

Today, her successes continue to draw women around the globe to the world of aviation. Fascination with her life, career, and disappearance continues to this day. Whether or not the mystery will ever be solved remains to be seen.
