NATIONAL SUNFLOWER DAY

Celebrating happiness is what we do at National Day Calendar. So, it makes perfect sense to celebrate the first Saturday in August as National Sunflower Day. Join us all day as we spread joy about the happiest flower on earth.

Sunflowers are said to be a symbol of adoration, loyalty, and longevity. Their bright yellow color is a sign of happiness, friendship, and intelligence. Much like the sun, sunflowers mirror vibrancy and give off an energy of life. National Sunflower Day reminds us to show our inner sunshine, while taking the opportunity to share one of the earth’s most beautiful flowers.

INTERNATIONAL MAHJONG DAY

On August 1st, International Mahjong Day deals a game to get the celebration started! Play your tiles well, and perhaps you’ll honor the day with a win.

The 19th-century strategy game became popular in the United States in the 1920s. While we play the game with tiles, it’s much like rummy. The players meld beautifully designed tiles with Chinese characters and symbols to earn points. Melds include pongs, kongs, chows, and the mighty Mahjong.

SIX MINUTES OF DARKNESS! 🌑
On August 2, the sky will darken for nearly six minutes as the longest total solar eclipse in over 100 years unfolds.
As the Moon completely covers the Sun, daylight will briefly turn to twilight, bright stars and planets may become visible, and the Sun’s glowing corona will shine around the dark lunar disk. This extraordinary event will be visible along a narrow path crossing parts of Spain, Iceland, and Greenland, making it one of the most remarkable celestial sights of the century.
