MINORITY DONOR AWARENESS DAY

On August 1, Minority Donor Awareness Day focuses attention on the need for minority donors. Minority Donor Awareness Day highlights the need, especially among minorities, for more organ, eye, and tissue donors. This important day is part of the awareness campaign of National Minority Donor Awareness Week.

Within the African-American, Asian, Hispanic, Native American and Pacific Islander-American communities, there is a serious shortage of transplants. Due to chronic conditions, minority patients see an increased need for transplants affecting the heart, kidney, pancreas, and liver.

NATIONAL VFR DAY

National VFR Day is the first Saturday in August on the National Day Calendar and we are showing support for veterans and first responders needing mental health services. Let’s use National VFR Day to provide veterans, first responders, and their families with the tools and support they need to allow them to thrive as individuals and as a family.

NATIONAL MUSTARD DAY

National Mustard Day on the first Saturday in August recognizes a versatile condiment. Used in many different cuisines, mustard comes from the seeds of the mustard plant.

RESPECT FOR PARENTS DAY

On August 1, Respect for Parents Day recognizes the leadership roles parents play in not only a child’s life, but also in our communities. Respect for Parents Day was created as a reminder that parents deserve and require respect and for all to consider the value that parents have in society.

NATIONAL RASPBERRY CREAM PIE DAY

National Raspberry Cream Pie Day on August 1 takes advantage of ripe raspberries available this time of year. If you’re fortunate enough to enjoy some fresh-baked raspberry cream pie, it’s a day to celebrate!

National Summit Day on the first Saturday in August recognizes those mountaintop summits and the people who climb there. Views from the top of the world are some of the most spectacular sights, and they are also some of the hardest to achieve. We want to help you climb your summit, starting today!

Celebrated annually each August, this dedicated day offers startup founders and small business owners a direct platform to connect with their congressional representatives, share their challenges, and help shape policy that drives economic growth.

SANDCASTLE DAY

The first Saturday in August is National Day Calendar and we are celebrating the childhood pastime of building sandcastles on Sandcastle Day. The weather is beautiful with warm temperatures and the days are long enough to enjoy it exploring outdoors, especially using our imagination to build an enormous sand castle.

MEAD DAY

Mead Day, celebrated on the first Saturday in August, increases awareness and fosters camaraderie among homebrewers, commercial mead makers, and enthusiasts around the globe. Known for its rich history and ancient craftsmanship, mead carries a legacy as unique as the honey used to brew it.

NATIONAL JAMAICAN PATTY DAY

National Jamaican Patty Day falls on the first Saturday in August and celebrates a delicious turnover-style pastry. Be sure to enjoy one wherever you are!

Filled with a variety of fillings, Jamaican patties satisfy hunger with seasoned ground beef, chicken, seafood, or vegetables. Made into a half-moon shape, the flaky crust provides a delicious package. While usually spicy, milder stuffings please those who are faint of heart.

Since the Jamaican Patty is similar to an English Cornish Pasty, it should be no surprise recipes for the dish hail from there. Many even suggest that the pastry came to Jamaica during the colonial days, while bearing some resemblance to the Spanish empanada.
