NATIONAL PENNSYLVANIA DAY

National Pennsylvania Day on July 20 recognizes the second state to join the Union. Once the home of the temporary capital of the United States in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is also known as the Keystone State. While the source of the nickname has been forgotten, the meaning is not lost. Bridge builders know leaving the vital keystone out of their structure would be folly, leading to collapse.

Known as the Keystone State, Pennsylvania played many roles that could be considered keystones. To begin with, its vote for independence split between eight delegates. Because of this, the split played a vital role in deciding to move toward independence and cementing the union of the newly formed country. As we know, the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were signed in Philadelphia during its tenure as the temporary capital. It was geographically centered among the 13 original colonies.

NATIONAL FORTUNE COOKIE DAY

We see a time when you will enjoy a crunchy, sweet treat on National Fortune Cookie Day! Each year on July 20, Americans celebrate the cookie that is a traditional part of Chinese take-out.

These crisp, folded cookies have a hint of buttery sweetness. Break them open, and you will find a slip of paper tucked inside with a message on it. The phrase will range from profound words of wisdom or tricky riddles to simple bits of common sense. Some fortunes include quotes from famous philosophers.

NATIONAL GET OUT OF THE DOGHOUSE DAY

Occasionally, we all need a free pass. National Get Out of the Doghouse Day on the third Monday in July offers the fast track home we all need once in a while.

Generally, when you are “in the doghouse,” you have fallen out of favor with someone, usually your spouse or significant other. However, you can also be “in the doghouse” with a friend or your boss at work. This day uses all those good cliches to get you back in the big house where you belong.

NATIONAL LOLLIPOP DAY

July 20 recognizes National Lollipop Day as a way to celebrate this enduring and ever-popular treat. Pick up your favorite flavor to savor!

Ever delightful and sweet, lollipops have satisfied generations of sweet tooths. And it’s possible they’ve been doing that for centuries. However, no one is sure how old the lollipop is. During prehistoric times, a form of lollipop may have preserved nuts and berries in honey. As sugar became plentiful, lollipops appeared much later in 16th century Europe.

In the United States, confectionaries and medicine shops as early as the 1860s sold lollipops in various forms. However, George Smith gave this sweet treat an official 20th-century story in 1908. Smith earns credit for inventing the modern style lollipop. In 1931, Smith trademarked the name which he claims came from his favorite racing horse, Lolly Pops.

Lollipops range in size. For variety, the smaller candies can be purchased by the bagful. Banks, barbershops, and vendors at parades give the sweet treat away to customers, too! Specialty candy shops make giant lollipops in a variety of bright colors, shapes, and sizes. While they are attractive, these lollipops can be cumbersome and often are more than we can handle!

NATIONAL MOON DAY

National Moon Day on July 20 commemorates the day man first walked on the moon in 1969. NASA reported the moon landing as being “…the single greatest technological achievement of all time.”

On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 carried the first humans to the moon. Six hours after landing on the moon, American Neil Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface. He spent two and a half hours outside the spacecraft. Buzz Aldrin soon followed, stepping onto the lunar surface. After joining Armstrong, the two men collected 47.5 pounds of lunar material. Their specimens would make the journey back to Earth to be analyzed. In the command module, a third astronaut waited. Pilot, Michael Collins, remained alone in orbit until Armstrong and Aldrin returned.

Caught up in the thrill of the adventure, millions of Americans watched the mission from Earth. Televisions around the world tuned in to the live broadcasts. The astronauts had a worldwide audience. National Moon Day doesn’t just celebrate the landmark mission. It also celebrates future missions. Private expeditions are taking humans further into space. Armstrong’s “one small step for man” inspired imaginations and sparked innovation, too, for generations to come. Even future moon missions are planned including manned landings.

Unquestionably, putting men on the moon became a tangible achievement in the space race. It placed the United States in a role to go forth and explore into the deeper reaches of the universe, too. In the months and decades that followed, NASA and the Soviets stepped up their missions.

Every July 20, the world celebrates International Moon Day, an official United Nations observance dedicated to lunar exploration and humanity’s enduring fascination with the Moon.
The date commemorates the historic Apollo 11 mission. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the lunar surface while Michael Collins remained in orbit. It was the first time humans reached another world.
For centuries, the Moon has inspired myths, rituals, poetry, scientific discoveries, and countless creatures of the night. It has watched over witches, wolves, dreamers, and lonely souls—and tonight, it shines for all of us.

I was rudely awakened around 3 am. Lighning and loud thunder claps. It lasted at least 2 hours. I was able to get a shower in and start the washer around noon. Then as it started up another thunder storm that was more intense than the one earlier. Torrential rainfall. This went on for three or more hours. Tomorrow we will have the same thing and it will go on for the rest of the week. This rain, as you know, is sorely needed. Still not sure if our drought will be over. If not, then a huge dent. Temp is in the 80s and the humidity is high. We will be in the mid 70s tonight. We have a rip current statement that started early am and will end tomorrow night. Wind will pick up tomorrow. Not sure if this tropical depression will get a name. It will be close.

I did not venture out to see hubs. Most of the roads leading to the rehab have huge puddles. Many streets are flooded. More of the same tomorrow. The garbage and recycle are all set to be put out. Just not sure if there will be a pickup tomorrow. The wind velocity could be the deciding factor. Yes, I am hurting. Every muscle and lower back is feeling the impact of the weather. So far the headache has been minimal. Not sure if this weather will be going up the East coast. Right now it seems to be hitting Texas, Louisana, Alabama, etc.. The panhandle and Jacksonville thus far has been spared.

I wish Oz had that I would be a happy camper and yeah some days my recycle and trash

Wow, what a final game!⚽ I didn’t even take the time to cook dinner. Hubs had soup and crackers and I had watermelon, lol!🤣 I didn’t care who won but Spain definitely played better. Congrats to them!!🏆

Much cooler today, around 80, and I think I will be able to open some windows tonight. Something I haven’t done in weeks. But it will be up and down all week so the a/c will be on and off.

Good evening and what a game. I was watching and posting so when they were
at half time I needed to focus more.

Lady you know my backyard neighbors brought a three bedroom condo there in
Seville, Spain I am sure they are having a ball. 🎈💕😎Also my area hosted
Argentina for their Games here in OZ. The City felt alive and busy.

I was two steps ahead of the Games I had get Asian Take Out. We were in the triple digits
and I knew I was not cooking. I love you and hubby meal. The Watermelon would have suited
me fine good for you too. I love soup so it would have been all good.

Triple digits tomorrow and all week pray for us. 😎 I am going to jump in the shower
and take a Perlier nice cool shower with all the cremes and powder that goes with it. 💕

Had a note to you yesterday and as I approached the recaptcha, it went into oblivion. I was typing a second note just a few seconds ago. It, too, went the same route. Here I go again.

I ordered and received Samantha Brown’s freezer bag. It is huge and bulky. Used it for the first time yesterday. I have to admit that it holds everything and then some. I used the top portion for items I usually carry in a large tote bag. It held everything and then some. The pocket area held a huge salad with utensils, 6 cans of sugar free soda (warm when they went in) and two large cherry cheese cakes with fresh cherries on top), two freezer paks and still had room for more stuff. Oh, forgot. I also added purified water and one Smart water just in case. Instead of using two separate bags, this one holds everything. Could not believe it. And when I finally wheeled hubs to his room an hour or so later, the cans of soda and my water were iced cold. Totally impressed. Hubs enjoyed one can of Cream sugar free soda and I opened the purified water. I was totally impressed. Used the trolley so I wouldn’t need to carry the freezer bag. The dining room is a long hallway from the front door. It actually goes to the next level (upward climb).

We have had rain on and off. Friday morning around 3 am we had a thunderstorm that lasted until 5am. Not good for sleeping. It’s been raining on and off since then. Luckily I was able to drive when it was just cloudy. Last night I saw the moon. Not bright. Beautiful sunset. I thought for sure that the rain had ended. An hour later, light rain. Thankfully, no real downpours. But that will change on Sunday. We will have rain the rest of the week. I am dancing for joy. So happy..

Glad to hear you are in tip-top shape. Sometimes where you park and where you have to be in the hospital is very inconvenient. There have been times where I’ve had to stop and sit down for a minute or two because of the long trek. My knees are not happy.☹️

We are still under a storm warning. A lot of the smoke has left but more is supposed to slide back in tomorrow, sigh.
