NATIONAL LIVING DONOR DAY

National Living Donor Day on April 11 celebrates and honors the brave people who step up and save lives by donating their living organs and tissue to heal those in need.

NATIONAL BARBERSHOP QUARTET DAY

On April 11th, toes start tapping to four-part harmony thanks to National Barbershop Quartet Day. Barbershop quartets have a way of making the heart flutter. Very often, they transport us back to a simpler time or at the least make it standstill.

NATIONAL CHEESE FONDUE DAY

Observed annually on April 11th, National Cheese Fondue Day recognizes a food holiday many enjoy. Fondue is a dish of melted cheese or other ingredients, served in a communal pot (caquelon) over a small portable stove (réchaud). Participants then dip the bread into the cheese using long-stemmed forks. Cheese fondue consists of a blend of cheeses, wine, and seasoning.

NATIONAL PET DAY

National Pet Day on April 11th dedicates the day to those pets who may not always get the companionship and attention pets deserve. While loving our pets is something we do every day, the observance encourages helping out orphaned pet companions. It will improve their health and enhance their opportunities for adoption.

NATIONAL EIGHT TRACK TAPE DAY

National Eight Track Tape Day on April 11th recognizes an era that was here and gone in a short 20 years. Nevertheless, it is a day to remember listening to great music of the sixties and seventies on eight-track tapes.

National Submarine Day, on April 11th, honors the day the United States Navy acquired its first modern commissioned submarine. On April 11, 1900, the Holland VI became the Navy’s first modern submarine.

You are right, the day sure is flying by. I did laundry and wasn’t finished until mid-afternoon. Now it’s almost time to start dinner.😮

Maybe I will go this coming week to get some hanging baskets.🌺🌼🌸 I can’t plant until May since we always have a late freeze. At least I can bring the baskets inside.

Thank you for the roses/tulips and the lovely vase. Think I will look for something similar. It makes a bouquet really stand out.

I have only been home for a few minutes. Like you and so many millions with their eye on the sky,I enjoyed the front row seat by hubs bedside. I stayed long enough to see the tube go around the space craft and then left before anyone could say it was time to go. The rehab was on the cool side tonight. My warm jacket stayed folded in my carrier. Before joining hubs, I made a stop at Culver’s. Picked up a Fresco salad for me and three one scoop vanilla custard for hubs and the receptionist. I gave hubs some of my salad and his eyes lit up along with his facial expression as he tasted every morsel. He loved every bit. And best of all, he enjoyed the chewing. Loved the grilled chicken and the tomatoes. It made for a real nice evening.

Our weather will be in the low 80s during the day and the lows will be in the mid 60s at night. No rain in sight through the weekend. The weather people are predicting a cold snap for either Tuesday or Wednesday. The one we had a few days ago lasted a day and a half. Not sure about the next one.

Well, I am officially 1 month out from my outpatient surgery. I reduced on top and am happy about it and still on the mend.
As for the Today Special Earrings from Rarities, I think I like them. They are very light weight.

the middle of doing this thread for today.

I don’t know what you are talking about as far as outpatient surgery. I am glad all is
well.

The Splash was out of this world and yeah I would want my feet on the ground too.
A lot goes in to making these trips you almost have to learn how to walk again.
I’ve been unable to walk as a child due to a hit and run and your legs are the most
heavy thing on your body it took me six months to learn to walk again.

Thanks so much for the congrats. I watched the whole game last night, which usually doesn’t happen, and they looked good.👍

First thing I did today is call the medical facility at exactly 8:00 AM and actually spoke to a live human. Like you, our insurance changed on January 1 and I called them on January 2 to give them the new info. I did my part and thought all was okay. My old insurance was billed the last two months and rejected. Told them if they wanted paid they better get their act together. I think it is right now, we shall see.🙄

We are getting some rain this evening and overnight. The rest of the weekend looks good. I think maybe mac and cheese for dinner. I am still on the no meat Fridays, lol!🧀

Good Evening I got my insurance straight I wonder if more are affected by these
changes I have never had this problem before. We pay good money for private insurance
and when hubby walks in and you want over a 1,000.00 for one script that is normally
10.00 well we have a problem. Alrighty now problem solved. 😎💕

I am OK. Had another issue with the taxes. Did not receive one of the 1099s and spent three days on the phone and on line. Part of the problem was that hubby’s phone is no longer workable. After 20 years or just about, it can no longer be updated. Thankfully, I discovered this and purchased the TS Samsung. Meanwhile no one would take any info from me. They needed hubs voice and answers to obtain the info. I wrote some thing out like our full address and phone number. He remembered the phone number as well as the ones North. Wow. Even I do not remember those numbers.

The daisies are beautiful. I even like to own that vase they are in. Guess it’s wishful thinking on my end.

We were promised over an inch of rain for Tuesday and Wednesday. What we had were loads of clouds and wind. Wonder when the weather people will get it right. ????

Spent the entire day trying to get an insurance mistake by a medical center fixed. Still not fixed because no one will answer their phones, put on hold or cut off when being transferred.😖 Can anyone do anything right these days? Back at it tomorrow. Now I need that bottle of wine – the whole bottle!!🍾🍷

Good Evening Lady i had a similar day concerning insurance too. Somehow our insurance
changed again at the end of March. We had just did a renewal in November effective on
Jan. 1 everything went smooth. Then we were told that expired at the end of March.
i think you know what i was thinking. I did not know until hubby tried to pick up some
meds and they wanted over 1,000.00 for just one script. I jumped on the phone and
part of it was corrected. I am not finished we have private insurance I am not having
none of it. 😎My normal price for this script is 10.00.

I feel like you do someone messed it how about getting right for a change.

NATIONAL EMPANADA DAY

Each year on April 8th, National Empanada Day recognizes a delicious pastry that comes in several different forms. The name empanada comes from the Galician, Portuguese and Spanish verb em pandar, meaning to wrap or coat in bread. Empanadas are made by folding the dough or bread around a seasoned stuffing. Remembering Billie Holiday, who was born on this day.
(April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959), She was a jazz singer with a career spanning nearly thirty years. Nicknamed “Lady Day” by her friend and music partner Lester Young, Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz music and pop singing.
Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. She was known for her vocal delivery and improvisational skills.
She was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1973. Lady Sings the Blues, a film about her life, starring Diana Ross, was released in 1972.

For two weeks, the doctors stood beside his hospital bed and called his name.
Nothing.
No flicker of eyelids. No squeeze of a hand. Just the steady beep of machines and the heavy silence of a man who had brought joy to millions now trapped in darkness.
On January 24, 1961, Mel Blanc was driving along Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles when another car slammed into him head-on at the infamous Dead Man’s Curve. The crash was devastating. His legs were shattered, his pelvis crushed, and he suffered multiple skull fractures so severe that rescuers needed thirty minutes just to cut him out of the twisted wreckage.
When he reached UCLA Medical Center, Mel Blanc was unconscious.
He had slipped into a deep coma.
For fourteen agonizing days, his family and medical team tried everything. His wife Estelle spoke softly into his ear. His son Noel leaned close and repeated “Dad” again and again. Nurses and doctors kept calling “Mel,” desperate for any sign of awareness.
Only silence answered.
It felt especially cruel because this was Mel Blanc — the most recognizable voice in American entertainment, even if most people never knew his face. He was Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety Bird, Sylvester the Cat, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, Speedy Gonzales, and dozens more. They called him “The Man of a Thousand Voices,” but the title barely captured the truth: Mel didn’t just imitate characters. He became them. His posture, breathing, and entire being shifted with each one. Those voices lived inside him.
Which made the coma’s silence even more unbearable.
Then one of his neurologists, Dr. Louis Conway, decided to try something radically different.
Instead of calling for Mel, he leaned over the bed and asked gently:
“How are you feeling today, Bugs Bunny?”
A long pause hung in the room.
Then, faint but unmistakable, the voice that had delighted generations replied:
“Eh… just fine, Doc. How are you?”
The entire room froze.
Encouraged, the doctor continued.
“Tweety, are you there?”
“I tawt I taw a puddy tat.”
Against all medical expectations, the characters woke up before the man did. When addressed as Bugs Bunny or Tweety, Mel responded faster, clearer, and with growing awareness. The beloved voices he had given life for decades became the bridge that pulled him back from the brink.
Those cartoon voices — playful, irreverent, full of life — reached the parts of his injured brain that his own name could not.
Recovery was long, painful, and grueling. But Mel Blanc did something extraordinary. While still trapped in a full-body cast, unable to sit up, recording equipment was brought straight into his hospital room. Scripts were held above his face. His son turned the pages for him. Fellow actors gathered around the bed.
From that flat-on-his-back position, Mel continued voicing Barney Rubble on The Flintstones and his classic Looney Tunes characters, refusing to let the crash silence the voices that defined him.
He made a full return to work and performed for nearly three more decades. His final role came in 1988’s Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
When Mel Blanc passed away in 1989 at age 81, his gravestone carried the perfect epitaph:
“That’s All Folks.”
But his real legacy had already been written years earlier in that hospital room. When doctors called his name and got no answer, they called for Bugs Bunny — and brought him home.
It wasn’t magic.
It was identity.
The characters weren’t just voices he created.

Staying home to play catchup on laundry and kitchen KP. I fell asleep at the computer last night and awoke around 1 am.. Hubs seems to be OK and is getting around better than ever using his hands on the wheels and his legs for walking while in the wheelchair. His food last night was chewable and he handled in well. Ate every morsel. Tomorrow I will bring gefilte fish without the horseradish.

It is very sunny on the West Coast with temps in the low 80s. The UV index is very high as well. There is a chance for some rain, but the news will be the winds which will last thru Thursday. I have enough sinus pills so should be OK.
