Conversation 29
Hello Peeps time for a new Conversation Thread. This is number 29 out of the
series. I created and started this thread 11 years.
I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread.
I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe.

NATIONAL BURRITO DAY
National Burrito Day on the first Thursday in April celebrates the tasty and versatile Mexican dish wrapped in a tortilla.
A burrito is a heavy tortilla wrapped around meat, cheese, tomato, rice, beans, vegetables, and sauces. Like many other tortilla dishes, the burrito is flexible. The cook chooses the meat fillings from ground beef, shredded chicken, shredded beef or shredded pork. The same applies to the bean choices, often ranging from black, red, whole or refried beans. Once again, the flexibility of choice applies to the vegetables allowing the cook to grill the vegetables or keep them fresh. Spices such as cumin, chili powder, and oregano give the burritos an authentic Mexican flavor. For added crunch, chimichangas are burritos that have been deep-fried.
The word burrito first appeared in the Dictionary of Mexicanisms in 1895. The Guanajuato region of Mexico uses the term and means little donkey in Spanish. It is possible that it stems from the appearance of the packs and bedrolls donkeys used to carry. In other regions of Mexico, similar types of food are known as flauta.
The burrito was introduced in the United States in the 1930s at the El Cholo Spanish Café in Los Angeles. Since then, the burrito has found its way to menus all across the United States. Home cooks serve the burrito because it’s a crowd-pleaser and filling, too.

NATIONAL FILM SCORE DAY
On April 3rd, National Film Score Day recognizes the musical masterpieces called “Film Scores” and, more specifically, the very talented composers who create them.
As the opening scenes of a long-anticipated movie begin flickering across the screen, a rising cadence undulates through the theater setting the mood. A musical note plays, then two. Soon the theater fills with a beautifully layered orchestral music masterwork. This musical accompaniment to the film you are watching is called the “Film Score.”
Imagine your favorite film without a few well-placed notes enhancing the emotion of a dramatic on-screen exchange. Or a chase scene without rousing orchestral music elevating the intensity. Would Star Wars, Jaws, The Lord of the Rings films, or the Harry Potter films be the same without their complementary musical scores? Without the film score, would we cower so easily in fear from our seats? Would our imaginations so eagerly suspend from reality? Music heightens emotions. It also sharpens our senses and focuses our attention. Without a doubt, the film score is the fiery soul of a film.

NATIONAL FIND A RAINBOW DAY
Each year on April 3rd, National Find a Rainbow Day challenges us to look to the sky and find a colorful ray of hope cast across it.
A spectrum of light in the form of a multicolored arc, appearing in the sky, is caused by both reflection and refraction of light in water droplets in the Earth’s atmosphere. These rainbows always appear directly opposite of the sun. The light is refracted (bent) when it enters a droplet of water, then is reflected inside on the back of the droplet and refracted again when leaving it.
Red is the color that is visible on the outer part of arainbow and violet on the inside of a primary rainbow. Children learn in science class the mnemonic ROYGBIV to help them to remember the sequence of colors in a rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. Many forms of airborne water can causerainbows including, rain, mist, spray, and dew.

Good morning in S. California.
Taci thank you for such a nice post last night.
You have great taste and I hope you receive everything you ordered. I so far have

discounts.I love the pin you ordered and good luck with the bracelets.

-
Sheba, 60% off is good tool Hey I will take it any day!
No need to ask if you enjoyed the Heidi Shows as I am sure you did.
I was about to plop down to watch when I realized I missed a call. The hairdresser had tried to reach me about a cancellation, so I took it. Had to walk over but that was ok. I made it in 7 minutes with some light jogging. It was literally about 10 minutes before Heidi was on TV.How are you doing? Cats? Poppy? Is your SIL feeling ok?
-
Good day in the ‘burgh. I hope you are resting well. I hope your sister’s flight
has no problems with delays.Lady our parents birthday is in April and this will be a somber month for me.
Enjoy your sister and give her a hug for me.
So glad she is back.
Sending Spring Hugs to you and Jake.
-
Like you, a severe storm just passed through, lots of hail, thunder and lightning.
But so far all power has stayed on. We are supposed to have a lot of rain through the weekend.
Sis’s connection was already delayed two hours at 9:30 this morning so she will not be here until early evening.
Only good thing is rush hour should be over for picking her up. Mom is anxious, she said it’s too quiet in her house.
Still saying prayers for your SIL and family, hopefully she is feeling a little better each day.
Have a quiet evening, sending April shower hugs to you and Poppy.
-
Good evening I hope your sister has landed and if not real soon.
If I were her and your mom we would have a Black Russian Toast.

APRIL FOOLS’ DAY
April Fools’ Day on April 1st has long been a day when practical jokes and tricks are played on the unaware. It’s a time when children convince their parents they’ve broken a bone. Parents get in on the planning, too. Classic April Fools’ jokes include caramel covered onions or fake doggy doo-doo in inconvenient places. Businesses launch impractical or unbelievable products for the fun of the day and newspapers print incredible headlines catching readers off guard.

NATIONAL TOM FOOLERYS DAY
April 1 is National Tom Foolerys Day on the National Day Calendar, and we are celebrating with harmless pranks, silly tricks, shenanigans, and, of course, tomfoolery. April 1 also happens to be the birthday of Tom Foolery, a character developed by Kalahari Resorts, home to America’s largest indoor waterparks. This is no April Fool’s joke! We are dedicating an entire day to celebrating the spirit of adventure, play, and a little bit of trickery, in all of us.

I am fine with that. -
Good day in Florida welcome to the first day of April.
Wishing you a great
day. Hope some of your projects are getting done.I am trying to warm up as I type this morning.
-
iI had a phone call just minutes ago. The person doing the renovation will be here Thursday morning to take measurements and to go over a color chart. Looks like they will take part of a closet to widen the shower which is OK by me. There is another closet on the other side where I keep the linens and that can be used as well. I asked for teal and he said how about coral. Coral , Teal, Blue and Purple are my favorite colors. But, this is not my bathroom. It will be hubby’s. So. after deciding on my part, will join hubby at the rehab. And speaking of the Rehab. I have been trying to reach the receptionist on and off all day. No answer. So I will remain home today. It will take a long time for someone to answer the doorbell. Another reason to bring hubby home. Now to do the inside of the cabinets with you know what. I do remove all shelving. This means I will be on a roll to get out of the kitchen.
-
Hi.Just had brunch and now off to do some things in the kitchen. Spring cleaning is a must. Two cabinets are totally emptied and will put what was within into the dishwasher on sanitize. I was very happy with the first load. The kitchen looks like a hurricane came through. I will again be going through everything and donations will be forthcoming. Luckily, we have people who do pickup within our community. Twice per year, we do a one day yard sale which helps to defray costs. I have boxes lined up in the MB and some for the kitchen from the first go through. I m treating it as a fun project, otherwise I will go bananas.
From what I understand, the aide arrived yesterday in time for work. However, he was no where around when I made a visit to hubby. The receptionist thought he looked awful. I have no idea what he was hit with and right now I am not sure if he will be back. His wife not helping with the situation is throwing me a huge curve ball. Wasn’t one of the oaths we took on our marriage day was “in sickness and in health?” Guess she forgot those terms. I will update this when possible.
I have clothes in the dryer that need folding. Suffice to say it is over 82 degrees and the humidity is around 96%, Today I will be going to Sam’s Club and from there to hubby. Tomorrow I will be working all day until it’s time to change and see hubby. He actually wants me to relax when I am with him.
I will try to send some warmer temps your way. Until it gets to you dress warm and keep an eye on Poppy. Wishing and praying that your SIL continues doing well on this recovery process and may she be cancer free. I am positive that her doctors didn’t leave an area untouched. This type of surgery not only extends the life span, but may also rid the “C” word and becomes the “C” for CURE. It’s a miraculous surgery and why it wasn’t done years ago is a good question.
-
Good Evening please do not work too hard. Glad the Renovation is about to begin.
Hubby’s journey home is starting now.Glad you had a stay at home day. I am DVR Liza Minnelli on PBS.
I have seen her live in concert and she is amazing I can never get enough of her.

Sheba. It will be summer before you know it. Happy April 1st!
Didn’t Heidi used to have a March Maddness all month? Well, I really didn’t want to but couldn’t resist and ended up buying a pin and it looks like just in time as her sale is done. It’s the Birds of a Feather and no this is not an April Fools jokeLet’s see if it routes to me as last time I ordered they had a theft at the NJ post office and made me wait for their reimbursement before refunding me. It was a long wait and I still don’t know why her people made me wait for their refund. They knew they were getting the refund. I was out my money and the item. Haven’t ordered since. Fingers crossed.
Hope to watch tomorrow.
Have a great week ahead! -
Good day in the ‘burgh.

you and your mom will be happy to see her.March went by so fast my goodness.

Steve Merrick and Small Faces
Over bridge of sighs
To rest my eyes in shades of green
Under dreaming spires
To Itchycoo Park, that’s where I’ve been
I got high
(What did you feel there?) well, I cried
(But why the tears there?) tell you why
It’s all too beautiful, it’s all too beautiful
It’s all too beautiful, it’s all too beautiful
I feel inclined to blow my mind
Get hung up, feed the ducks with a bun
They all come out to groove about
Be nice and have fun in the sun
I’ll tell you what I’ll do (what will you do?) I’d like to go there now with you
You can miss out school (won’t that be cool?) why go to learn the words of fools?
we’ll get high
(What will we touch there?) we’ll touch the sky
(But why the tears there?) I’ll tell you why
It’s all too beautiful, it’s all too beautiful
It’s all too beautiful, it’s all too beautiful
I feel inclined to blow my mind
Get hung up, feed the ducks with a bun
They all come out to groove about
Be nice and have fun in the sun
It’s all too beautiful, it’s all too beautiful
It’s all too beautiful, hah
It’s all too beautiful, it’s all too beautiful
It’s all too beautiful, it’s all too beautiful
It’s all too beautiful, it’s all too beautiful

NATIONAL BUNSEN BURNER DAY
National Bunsen Burner Day on March 31st each year honors the birthday of German chemist Robert Wilhelm Eberhard von Bunsen.
Named after Robert Bunsen, a Bunsen burner is standard laboratory equipment that produces a single open gas flame. Labs use the Bunsen burner for heating, sterilization, and combustion. The gas can be either natural gas (usually methane) or a liquefied petroleum gas, such as propane, butane, or a mixture.
The invention of the Bunsen burner opened up new opportunities for the use of natural gas. A standard tool in chemistry, the Bunson burner is found throughout schools and laboratories worldwide. Most students become familiar with using a Bunsen burner for at least one semester during their high school career.
-
Each year, on March 31st children and adults alike, pick up their favorite colors for National Crayon Day. Opening up a box of crayons opens up a world of imagination and hours of fun.
Wax and chalk-based crayons have been used by artists around the world for centuries. Edwin Binney created the brightly colored crayons we are familiar with today. He was part owner of Binney & Smith, a company that produced products such as paint, pigments, and slate pencils for schools.
In 1903, Binney & Smith created the Crayola Division and produced colored wax crayons for children for the first time. Then in 1904, they presented their An-Du-Septic chalk at the Colombian Exposition in St. Louis winning a gold medal. The chalk was designed to be dustless at many teachers’ requests and was an immediate success.

If you like your spuds, National Tater Day on March 31st is for you! The day recognizes all kinds of potatoes which provide us with essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

NATIONAL CLAMS ON THE HALF SHELL DAY
National Clams on the Half Shell Day on March 31st offers clam lovers a day to celebrate one of the world’s most unique dishes.
The best variety of hardshell clams (also called Quahogs) for serving on the half-shell is the topneck, but you will find recipes using littlenecks and cherrystone as well. The topnecks run about two inches across, and the meaty clam is enough for a bite-sized morsel of Atlantic saltwater goodness.
Clams on the half shell can be raw, steamed, grilled or even smoked.
One popular “on the half shell” recipe originated in Rhode Island. Often served as an appetizer, Clams Casino is a dish with toasted breadcrumbs and bacon. Legend has it the recipe for Clam Casino dates back to 1917 and the Little Casino in Narragansett, Rhode Island. According to Good Housekeeping Great American Classics, maître d’hôtel Julius Keller and Mrs. Paran Stevens developed clams casino for her guests, as she wanted to serve up something special and named it after the hotel. The dish soon became so successful, word spread, and it began appearing on menus across the nation.

It is 81 degrees as I type. Tonight will be in the 70s. No rain in sight. Will be out shopping tomorrow for planters and soil.
There was an obituary for Elissa yesterday. It was a nice tribute to a lovely person.
I am just about ready to go visit hubby. Not sure if the aide has returned. This workweek he is supposed to be on Monday and Tuesday. Off Wednesday and Thursday and back on Friday fo the four day weekend. I just hope he is good to go. He is the hardest worker. His wife not watching what he eats is mind blowing. I hope to get more info when he returns. I think, with the right food and diet plan, he will have less problems.
Have a great day and enjoy the sunshine.
-
So today was clam day. When hubby and I were first married, we bought a small house on an island that was 9 miles by 5 miles. The only way you could get to our place was by ferry. One of my favorite hobbies was clamming on the bay side of the Atlantic. Our house was on the water and I would walk to the other side where the sand met some surf. As the low tide was coming in is when I did my thing. Using my feet I would feel for those clams and with those feet dig around them and with both feet did a back stroke/float to bring them up. Who needed a rake back then when my feet did the job. Ok, a little slower, but it got it done. And of course, you know that my favorite “chowdah” is the Rhode Island clear.
-
Good evening sounds like fun going Clam hunting. I love New England.
I am a bit worn as I did too much Spring Cleaning. I am going to jump in the shower
and take a Perlier break.Playing the Radio and enjoying some of the older classics I always like my parents music.
Music is very different these days. I am Brit Girl when it comes to music. I like Jazz, Blues,
Rock and Soul.Let me not forget a bit of country.

Good day on the Gulf Coast of Florida.
Oz is raining and cloudy today. I hope you
get a dose of it.I am in the wind today doing this and that.
I am moving forward trying to deal with the hand I have been dealt in this thing
called life.I hope you know a bit more about the Aide. How are you and hubby today?
Heidi Daus has new things on the HSN Site.
Oodie I hope you had fun with your shopping yesterday. I cannot believe March is
almost over where did it go? -
I did end up at Costco yesterday. I purchased a Baldacci book and will probably start it this week. I also picked up a few shorts for hubby. Looks like we will be in the 80s this week along with humidity. These will come in handy. One thing I also purchased were the shrimp Ceviche. It is really good and I am happy that I was able to buy 2 packages. I added red hot peppers to mine which added to the flavor. I cannot wait until they start selling the pastrami and corned beef from the Carnegie Deli in NYC.. So many years ago hubby and I would walk from Grand Central to the Stagedoor Deli. We both decided that the walk would do us good since their meals were piled a mile high. From there it was on to Time’s Square where we picked up the subway for Canal Street and some shopping. By the time we returned to Grand Central we were pooped. But the shopping didn’t end there. We needed something for lunch the next day, as if our purchases at the various Asian markets were not enough. No, we needed to stop at Zabar’s for their chicken salad and their homemade seeded rye bread, Russian Pumpernickel and water bagels. In those days we didn’t have the Trolley. We used.a luggage carrier. That was a thing on two wheels that folded to nothing. It came in handy for all our purchases along with a couple of bungee cords. Then came the two hour train ride to New Haven and to our vehicle. On the way home we took a smidgen of the chicken salad and paired it with the seeded rye. Those were the days. And of course there is a song that goes along with that.
The aide once told me that when he gets sick he has to care for himself. It is not like me who stands beside her best friend and brings food and cheery notes to bring a smile or two. However, he said he was still in love with her. When I found out that he had taken ill last Sunday, I had his wife’s phone number. She never responded. She did pick up some insurance forms and mentioned to the receptionist that he was very ill. Yesterday, I mentioned to this receptionist that it seemed to me that she could care less. She just wants the income. The receptionist agreed with me and felt rotten. This week he is on Monday and Tuesday. I do not know if he will return this week. Tomorrow will tell. It’s not only his back, but also something with his digestion. There isn’t one day that he doesn’t have stomach issues. He had all kinds of tests. No cancer was found, though there are times that I think he should be rechecked. He always has a smile and a joke or two for hubby. And, of course, hubby always has a comeback. They would do good as a comedy team. On that note, I need to get ready to see hubby. Shower beckons. The A/C is on and it feels good. I will turn it off before I leave.
Enjoy the rain. For now we have cloudy skies. We did have a few sprinkles during the night. Alexa says no rain for today. But my legs say otherwise.
So sorry about your friend. Treasure the pin that will give you many pleasant memories. I am sure that Heidi is also devastated. Thanks for the Heidi pieces and the head’s up. I think she will be returning to HSN either this week or next. Have a great day.
-
Good Evening I had to chuckle when you wrote you had the A/C on. We had the heat
on last night and today we were in the 30’s very windy and cold. I made sure the cats
were all fed. We rained all night and have had light rain all day.Tomorrow will be another chilly day this is how OZ is warm one day and cold the next.
I have to dress according to the weather. This is how I can get sick going from hot to cold
too fast.I do hope you get some news on your friend.
Not cool his wife is not what she appears
to be. Oodie he seems like a good person.I love the story of your New York Foodie fun.
When I visit I stay near the Metropolitan
Opera and Julliard School. The food is great in New York.Very cold as I write to you I am putting several layers on the bed and just rest. I have had
a heck of a weekend.I hope you had a nice visit with your husband.
Oodie Richard had a very nice singing voice.
May his memory be a blessing.

Good Morning in S. California.
I did read your post from last night. Yes, my SIL
is home from her ordeal in the hospital. I was very surprised they released her.
She is under a strict regimen of meds and diet. All eyes and hands are on deck.
Cancer is a horrible thing and it’s one day at a time with this type. I will keep all
posted on the outcome so far so good.Taci I want to share this little bit of info with you.
Elissa was a Heidi Girl here on HSN and everywhere in the world. I have personally brought
an item from her it was a huge pin that I still own. When she mailed it to me she wrote a long
sweet note and Heidi has named several pieces of her name for her. When Heidi Daus did
her TV presentation Elissa would always call in and I remember her voice like yesterday.
We kept in touch through the years but she was one of the first of the Heidi Girls that
started me on my journey with Heidi Daus.Elissa passed on Friday and I found out yesterday
and that added to things I am going through. I will forever treasure the pin because I love it.
Elissa was on the Heidi Daus Thread and you may have written to her too on the Jewel Thread.I am just sharing a little something in HD World she will be missed.
I am doing alright rainy in OZ.
Hey Happy Trails.
-
Sheba, your SIL must be happy to be home.
Thank you for letting me know about Elissa. I know who she is am am saddened to hear of her passing and she was fairly young. A beautiful person! I’m sure she will be missed by many. Sorry for you loss as well. -
Good Evening Heidi Daus simply adored her when Heidi does her presentation on HSN
she always mention her she was the inspiration of the Gold and Black Boxes Heidi’s
pieces come in. Heidi told that on HSN she taught Heidi how to pack her lovely pieces
for security.I have shown the Pin a some Heidi Daus Threads.
Thank you for your condolences been a tough Weekend.
Tomorrow is another day.

NATIONAL VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY
National Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 29 honors the men and women who served and sacrificed during the longest conflict in United States history.
-
National Pita Day is on March 29 and celebrates the dipping, scooping, and wrapping of as many ingredients as we can think of into this delicious bread. We want everyone from around the globe to celebrate with National Day Calendar as we indulge in a prehistoric delight from the Middle East.
Pita has rich roots dating back about 2.4 million years ago during the Stone Age. Evidence shows the Natufian people in the region that is now Jordan, made a kind of flatbread from wild grains. However, unlike today’s pita bread which forms a pocket, the ancient pita bread was thin and flat. The first actual mention of pita bread takes place around 1936. In recent years, pita bread has become very popular in the US and around the globe as a healthy alternative to bread.

NATIONAL NEVADA DAY
On March 29th, National Nevada Day celebrates The Battle Born State and the 36th state to join the Union.
-
NATIONAL MOM AND POP BUSINESS OWNERS DAY
National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day honors all small business owners each year on March 29th.
Small businesses are a vital part of the United States economy, and the critical role they play is sometimes overlooked. Consumers can show them their much-deserved appreciation by shopping locally and at small businesses.
Give gift cards from your favorite small businesses to encourage others to shop there.
Share their social media pages to improve their following.
Talk about them. Word of mouth advertising is some of the best advertising small businesses get.Take their business cards and then recommend them to a friend.
Be a repeat customer. Remember small businesses are the ones who also support local events and schools, too. -
NATIONAL LEMON CHIFFON CAKE DAY
National Lemon Chiffon Cake Day on March 29th offers a bright and zesty celebration among the cake holidays.
For a nice refreshing spring dessert, chiffon cake is a very light cake made with vegetable oil, eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder, and flavorings. The fluffy texture is made by beating egg whites until stiff and folding them into the cake batter before baking. Chiffon cakes tend to be lower in saturated fat than butter cakes, potentially making them healthier than their butter-heavy counterparts.

My Cousin may he RIP.

RIP Cousin.
The Beatles Lyrics
“In My Life”There are places I’ll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remainAll these places had their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them allBut of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something newThough I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you moreThough I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you moreIn my life I love you more

Good Morning Peeps and enjoy the HSN Community.

Good day on the Gulf Coast of Florida.
Oodie I did read your post from last night.
The day was a long one for me and I am so pleased my SIL is home with her family.
I don’t have all the details but things are looking good. Believe me when I say she
is full of medicines and have plenty of help.I have never heard of a partial pancreas removal and total gall bladder all at once.
This is a long road ahead and a health journey for the entire family.I just want one day where I don’t have to worry about anyone.
Today is my cousin going home to heaven.
As the song goes In My Life I Loved Them More.
Oodie let me know if you hear about the Aide and how you are doing.
Oz is cloudy and will rain.
-
I cleared the cupboards last night to redo all dishes and bowls. I will be using clean boss again. The counter is cluttered yet again. But as the saying goes, “this too, shall pass.”
I haven’t heard a thing on the aide. The receptionist finally got a few days off and I’m sure if she hears anything, she might relay it to me. We both like this aide immensely. Even when in pain he was there. My hubby will miss him if he doesn’t ret urn. They both had huge laughs during the second shift. If I was unable to make it to the rehab, he would tell hubby. I always knew he was in good hands when I wasn’t there.
Well, I am finally going to Costco. There are things on my list for this month and I hope the sale items are still on the shelf. I hate shopping on weekends, but taxes called. Still missing one 1099 and hope I didn’t need it. This was a refund check that never made it to Florida. I now have huge piles of papers. These I need to plow through and shred or keep. I now have a system and hopefully, the clutter will be no more.
There is a possibility that we will have some droplets tonight between 10 pm and 11 pm. I will not be holding my breath on this one. Temp right now is 83 degrees and partly sunny. It was quite windy last night. From Costco, I will go directly to see hubby. It’s about 4 or 5 miles, but loads of traffic lights. This is a very busy road with loads of stores, fast food, pizza, Asian food, Supermarkets, car dealerships, dollar stores, and off and on ramps for the Interstate. Oh, I forgot motels, boats for sale, etc. .Where our Costco is situated used to be open land. Now we are getting Target, Whole Foods, Aldi, and many restaurants. Whole foods is going next to Costco. Now this should be interesting. Also Target. One retail store is open. The Academy. I think it’s sportswear. Haven’t been in the store as yet.
Have a great afternoon. Send some drops to us if you can.
-
