Conversation 24
Hello Peeps time for a new Conversation Thread. This is number 24 out of the
series. I created and started this thread 10 years ago.
I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. ✨😎
I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. 🌹✨😎

Moon River
Song by Audrey HepburnMoon river, wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you’re goin’, I’m goin’ your way
Two drifters, off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after the same rainbow’s end
Waitin’ ’round the bend

NATIONAL SELF-EMPLOYED DAY | May 4
National Self-Employed Day on May 4 honors the dedicated individuals that bravely venture out to create their own business to support themselves, their families, and their community.
Self-employed business owners are amongst the hardest working individuals you’ll ever meet. They continuously strive to meet their goals to be successful. The self-employed business owner never quits and faces every obstacles they encounter head on. In fact, there is very little that can stop a self-employed business owner from succeeding.
What Does Self-Employed Mean?
Being self-employed means a person does not work for a specific employer or business. Instead, they work for themselves and earn their income by doing business directly. Even though self-employment provides more job flexibility and freedom, it also requires a lot of commitment and dedication. A self-employed person must devote valuable time and energy to earn their wages and pay their bills.
Controlling Your Destiny
As a self-employed individual, you are in complete control of your destiny. Your passion to move forward and become an independent employee enables you to take your dream as far as you want. You have creative control over your ideas and how you want to implement them. In fact, you choose your own work environment, which includes whether or not you want or need employees to help you on your journey.
Establishing self-employment allows you to grow your knowledge and fine-tune your skill set. Your learning curve never ends because being self-employed gives enough variety in your daily routine to allow constant growth. In fact, self-employment helps you build and create your own network of clients.
Network building when you are self-employed is an important piece of your success. By increasing your network, you learn more about business than your realize from your peers. In addition, you learn from their successes and failures, which help you make better decisions for yourself in the long run. A good, strong network brings a group of like-minded people together, yourself included, that encourage, help, and assist each other as your businesses grow.

We honor our feathered friends on several holidays called Bird Day in the United States. The day celebrates birds of all kinds across North America.
With over 2,000 species of birds in North America, birdwatchers and nature lovers alike will appreciate the beauty and variety of these winged friends offer. From songbirds to waterfowl and domesticated birds, they come in every color of plumage and wingspan.
During the spring, migrating birds move to their summer nesting grounds. It’s an excellent time for those new to birdwatching to learn to identify birds by species. Enthusiasts also know that birds will migrate through backyards and stop for a rest, a bite to eat, and a drink if the right habitat is provided. They stand prepared by their windows with binoculars and watch as new visitors arrive daily. Whether it’s an oriole, a tree swallow, the ruby-throated hummingbird, or an American Finch, you’ll want to make sure you’ve prepared food, natural habitat and water sources for your guests.
However, it’s not just the passersby that get birdists excited. It’s the long term residents and those of the greater outdoors. Year after year they watch robins collect their nesting material or chickadees caring for their brood. They wander through nature preserves seeking a glimpse of a varied thrush or a prairie warbler. When they do, they are often graced with a privileged view of a bald eagle soaring above them.

NATIONAL ORANGE JUICE DAY
On May 4th National Orange Juice Day recognizes America’s most popular breakfast drink. Orange juice holds a large margin over second-place apple juice, too. People have been waking up to a glass of orange juice for many years and enjoying the health benefits it gives them.
One 8 ounce serving of orange juice has 124 mg of vitamin C and also supplies potassium, thiamine, and folate. That little bit of sunshine in the morning can add a boost to your day. Get your orange juice fresh squeezed, bottled or in concentrated form in the freezer section. You can also enjoy orange juice blends for delicious combinations.
The United States is second only to Brazil in the production of orange juice, and they’re second only to Canda in consumption.
Another excellent way to add orange juice to your diet if you are watching your sugar intake is to include it as an ingredient in a recipe. Orange juice adds great flavor to smoothies, whole-grain waffles or french toast.

NATIONAL STAR WARS DAY
May the Fourth be with you each year on National Star Wars Day. Or is it, “May the force be with you?” It all depends on whether you like using puns or not.
Thousands of Star Wars enthusiasts celebrate this day each year with parties and celebrations around the nation. If you are a fan, then National Star Wars Day allows you to dress like your favorite character, say your favorite lines from the series and catch a movie or read a book.
Star Wars fans didn’t first introduce the often-quoted phrase on May 4th. It was 1979, and Britain elected the first female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. On May 4th, the day she took office, the Conservative Party placed an advertisement in The London Evening News, which read, “May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations.”
Star Wars creator, George Lucas, was asked during a 2005 interview on a German news TV channel to say the famous sentence “May the Force Be with You.” Upon doing so, the interpreter interpreted the sentence into German as Am4 Mai sind wir bei Ihnen (On May 4 we are with you). TV Total captured this and aired it on May 18, 2005.

Good afternoon on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Oodie how are things going for you today.
I am doing this and that so I am in and out today. 😎🎈Oz is cloudy with light rain no problems there.
Oodie make a wish. 💕😎

Too late to edit but I re-read your post from last night. I know for a fact no one hurt
Xango’s feelings. Oodie she is such a sweet and gentle person. Some days I have nothing
to say. I try to take note of the good things in life. One thing about Xango she loves her
family like I do. I hate to think of it but either she is in pain or something is going on in
the family.Oodie I am from a very large family and believe me when I say something is always going
on and if I wrote about it everyday it would equal a book. LOL!😎I am a patient person and I have a feeling she will post again when the time is right. 💕
I enjoy our posting back and forth and even if I conversation won’t change the world well
the world will still be a good place. 🎈Our banter is light here the world is very heavy right
now.I will write more later. I am glad you brought your husband some home made food. 😘❤️
-
Thanks for your post. I didn’t think anyone said anything, but who knows. What I do know is that there is an illness going around Brazil caused by the mosquitos. Because of the heat and rain these bugs multiplied and carry whatever. I hope and pray that xango’s family members are OK.
I didn’t bring any food for hubby. I will be making soup sometime this week no matter how hot the weather becomes. Funny, I enjoy a “slurp” all year long.
Tomorrow I will be bringing hubby’s Yamaha with me. It’s one of those portable pianos. Just not sure if I will include the piano stand. I’ll see if I can fit both on the D-Best Trolley with a bungee cord. I will let you know how everything goes.
I returned to the Farmer’s Market this afternoon. When I was there during the week, they had a plant that I liked . At first I thought it was a Petunia. It wasn’t. It’s called Dipladenia and was selling for $24.99. It came in four different colors. Red, Pink, Coral and White. They were already potted in huge planters. My only problem………I could not lift them.😣😣. I knew they had people to help, but when I get home, how do I get it out of the trunk of my car. So I left it. However, I found that Lowes carries it and they have to be preordered which means it’s delivered to you. I may do that. The butterflies as well as the hummingbirds would absolutely love the flowers. Me. I would enjoy watching.
See you have another opportunity for some “fun” weather this week. Please be safe.

Sheba, Poppy sounds adjusted to the weather in Oz.

NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CUSTARD DAY
National Chocolate Custard Day on May 3rd each year celebrates a delicious pudding-like dessert enjoyed by many.
Pastry chefs and home cooks alike make custards by blending eggs with milk or cream and heating the mixture either on the stove or in the oven. Since custards come in a variety of consistencies, you can choose the one that best fits your dessert preference. For example, they range from a thin liquid-like a crème Anglaise to a firm creme brulee.
Custard is also a versatile dessert. When paired with pastries and baked goods, custard can be layered and piped. It also can be the main filling of a pie or a tart. Substitute a frosting with a thick custard between layers of pound cake or create a delightful parfait with custard, angel food cake, and custard. Pipe custard into dainty cupcakes, add a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkles for flair.
While chocolate custards are delicious on their own, they also fill eclairs, creme puffs, and doughnuts, too

NATIONAL TWO DIFFERENT COLORED SHOES DAY
Each year on May 3rd, National Two Different Colored Shoes Day encourages us to celebrate our uniqueness and put it on display. This day stands out from the other 364 days of the year. Wear two different colored shoes and see where they take you.
You may discover you walk to a different beat. Or perhaps you take a road less traveled. Maybe, just maybe you’ll see the world a little differently. One foot might ache more than the other. The left foot might be a little more colorful, too. Is one dressed snazzier than the other? Maybe. It may be likely you’ll get a few blisters, sideways looks, and a chuckle or two.
But what this day sets out to demonstrate are our differences and that they should be celebrated, not mocked. Two different shoes? What do they mean in the grand course of humanity? That one foot was rock and roll and the other was country? Not really. But it does show that some of us bear more wear than others despite being quite colorful. Some of us hide our soles a little deeper. And others still have a firm arch.

NATIONAL SPACE DAY
National Space Day dedicates the first Friday in May to the extraordinary achievements, benefits, and opportunities in the exploration and use of space. The goal of the observance is to promote math, science, technology, and engineering education in young people, The hope is to inspire them to pursue a career in science, especially a career in space-related jobs.
Careers in space involve a wide range of specialties. Going to space requires many working parts, and that’s not just the parts that go into space. All kinds of engineers build the equipment, computers and make the computations.
Accountants and public relations manage the books and the press. Meteorologists, chemists, physicists, and biologists analyze data and doctors monitor the health of the astronauts. As preparations are underway, photographers and writers record the events.
While we’ve only been exploring space for less than 60 years, we continue to learn so much. Imagine all the roles in space you can fill. While we’ve named a few here, how many more careers can you name? Do you know which one is yours?

NATIONAL TEXTILES DAY
On May 3rd, we recognize all that textiles do to improve our lives with National Textiles Day. From fashionable style to everyday necessity, textiles provide us with a wealth of design possibilities.
Woven fibers of either natural or synthetic materials create textiles that make life easier and more comfortable, too. We use the resulting fabric to make coverings for a variety of uses. From the clothes we wear to bedding and furniture covers as well as rugs, drapery, and canvas for art and shelter, textiles cover our lives.
Not only does textile lend itself to multiple uses, but it is also versatile. Texture and color allow unlimited possibilities for design and expression. Fabrics also protect us from the elements. And while we manipulate them to our needs, they remain sturdy or delicate depending on their design. While some fabrics breathe for sport others resist wind, rain, and sun.
Sustainability and environmentally friendly approaches to producing textiles are an essential part of the manufacturing process in the modern era, too. Valley Forge Fabrics is a company dedicated to living and working harmoniously with the environment. They have a reclamation take-back program for many of their products that have been in place since 2008.

NATIONAL SPECIALLY-ABLED PETS DAY
Annually on May 3rd, National Specially-abled Pets Day shines a spotlight on the needs of pets with disabilities.
This day is set aside to educate the public about caring for disabled pets. The day features disabled animals looking for a home. It also encourages animal lovers to consider choosing a disabled pet when they are looking at adopting a new pet family member. Before you adopt a pet with special needs, consider the time, energy, and financial needs, too.
Do you need special training? Depending on your pet’s needs you may need to learn some new skills. If your pet requires injections or certain types of therapy, you will be the one to provide the services.
If your pet is deaf or blind, you will need to be aware of their needs and safety concerns.
Is your home adapted to their needs? Amputees and blind animals will need accommodations.
Specially-abled pets require more veterinary care. The costs can add up, so consider your finances before you adopt, not after.
While pets with disabilities require additional care and accommodations, they still bring much love and joy to a home. -
NATIONAL RASPBERRY POPOVER DAY
National Raspberry Popover Day on May 3rd each year recognizes a dish similar to Yorkshire pudding. The day is also referred to as National Raspberry Tart Day.
Popovers earn their name by their characteristic popping over the edge of the pan as they bake. They can be enjoyed in both sweet and savory combinations. The primary ingredients in popovers are flour, eggs, milk, butter, salt and butter. Raspberries make popovers sweeter. Whether sweet or savory, most people enjoy popovers at breakfast time.
National Raspberry Popover Day is the second popover holiday on the calendar. In March, we celebrated National Blueberry Popover Day.

Good morning. Two busy days. I’ve been trying to get to Costco for the last two weeks to no avail.
It’s been one thing or another. So, tomorrow, no matter what, I will go since the last day for this booklet ends on Sunday. I have had problems with the bathtub drain and used a pipe cleaner, an auger and other tools. The drain was clogged. Notice, I said was. Everything I used, up until yesterday worked for a short period of time. Finally did a “google” search and it recommended Hydrogen Peroxide along with Baking soda. But how much. Finally found what I was looking for and used a cup of baking soda which I sprinkled around the drain. I waited about an hour and then added one cup of Hydrogen Peroxide and waited until late morning yesterday to check it out. It was still bubbling, so waited another hour and then ran the hot water. Just before leaving to see hubby, I checked the drain and it worked. I was shocked and surprised. I will do this method again just to be on the safe side. There is a clean odor emanating from that room.
This will be my new method from now on. Only problem, do it before going to bed since it takes about 8 hours from start to finish. I let it go longer. If it didn’t work, repeat the process. It would probably be shorter if you used an auger or a wired coat hanger. However this takes the edge off and ends the stuff you look at with the tools. Less aggravation. Just wish it would work on the garbage disposal. Time to call the plumber………Saw hubby yesterday and today. Brought him homemade cheesecake with strawberries. Might be fattening, but seeing the smile on his face meant the world to me. Tonight he shared my tuna fish salad. Glad there was enough for the two of us. He was in the wheelchair when I arrived which is a good thing since he was able to move around. Next week the car date. That should be fun. He wants a Costco fix. He thinks he can get out of the car and walk to the carts. I do not think so. The therapy stopped due to the weight gain which will prohibit standing on the one good leg. I’m thinking of contacting the YMCA to see if there is a therapist for the pool area. I have a feeling that this could help him regain some movement and also help in balancing.
I have no idea what happened to xango. I sometimes wonder if it was something that someone said to offend her or if she is in pain. As I said prior her last statement was that she wouldn’t be on as much unless she had something to say. I just hope and pray she is OK and her family in Brazil are OK as well. I really miss her. I think all of us feel the same way.
By the way, to change the subject again. Just read online where biologists and scientists are using a person’s DNA to fight against the cancer cells. Best of all, it seems to be working. Somehow or other they get the blood cells to see the Cancer as an enemy and it goes into an attack mode. And yes, hubby’s roommate did have cancer. Up until last week he was OK. He was on his way to have a smoke when he stopped to tell me that he had an awful pain in his side. I had a feeling it was the beginning of the end. He had no one visiting. Not good to be alone. Just wish I had seen that article sooner. I would have insisted that he give it a try. Seems to work on even late stage cancer. Doesn’t matter what type. Good results. No after affects either. I really miss him.

Good morning in S. California. Enjoy these cooler days. 🎈😎💕
Poppy is not scared of thunder he does not mind being out in the rain.
Sorry about the mishap with the return my goodness I think we all need to check
things out real good when shopping. Glad you were able to get a refund. 💕Enjoy the trails today if you can. Poppy and I were out and about early and it was so
nice we have the sun. 😎🎈 -
Good afternoon in the ‘burgh. Enjoy the weekend. 😎
I know we both will be planting over the weekend. 😎🎈
Send warm hugs to you and Jake. 💕😎
-
Good afternoon to you. Hot today🔥, right now 86, heavy rain tonight and all through the weekend. About a 50% chance everyday next week.⛈ We had more than enough in April.
Did some errands early and spent a couple hours at mom’s. Picked up dinner on the way home so no cooking today, yay!😊 Don’t think I’ll be planting flowers until sometime next week between all the raindrops. No big plans this weekend so will do odds and ends inside and take it easy.
Hope your brother is doing well🙏, sending hot hugs from me and Jake.🤗💖
-
I am going to try to get something one and done. I may just do the front yards first
and then the huge back yard perhaps on Sunday. I will take my time because I want it
done right and only hubby and I can make that happen. 💕🎈One of my nieces in GA is going to her high school prom she looked so pretty. 💕
Thank you for mentioning my brother he is back to work. I’d rather he be at work
than being sick and we never saw this coming. Total shock especially to him. Here this should cool you down a bit with your temps being high. OZ have more rain
on the way. So that is one reason my planting is going to take minute. 💕Hey enjoy your treat. 💕😘

Good morning Kitten in California and may this day find you doing well. 😎🎈💕

Finding Nature in Your Neighborhood
There is much we can learn from the ocean, as we have a similar inner landscape within us.
Both cities and tightly packed suburbs offer wildlife bountiful nooks and crannies in which to hide, which can make it difficult to spot the animals that live in our midst. Many animals thrive among paved streets, sidewalks, buildings, parking lots, and high-rises. There are animals in abundance burrowing in the soil of center medians and tiny backyard gardens, making nests in the trees that line broad and busy avenues, and buzzing around the flowers that beautify our parks. To find these creatures, we only need to stop, look, and listen. Nature’s drama is continually playing out on the window ledges where weary birds stop to roost, in the shadowy places where cautious nocturnal mammals wait for night’s mantle to fall, and in the fountains where playful waterfowl splash and frolic. When we observe the animals that share our habitat, we become a part of their beautiful, complex, and exciting world.Season by season, cities offer diverse ecosystems for you to explore. If your search for urban and suburban wildlife is challenging, try to look at your community with an animal’s eyes. Where there are shrubs and flowers, insects such as butterflies, ladybugs, beetles, and spiders can usually be found. The insects, in turn, attract the birds that feast upon them. Even the smallest green spaces are hosts to squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, and moles. Decorative awnings offer falcons a place to raise their young. At night, a different community of animals awakens to the world. Raccoons, skunks, and possums emerge to examine our human leftovers. Even our pets feel the call of the wild. It’s not uncommon for well-fed cats in colorful collars to stalk the streets in search of prey. Signs of habitation, like nests or hives, and audible evidence, like chirps, will help you find them.
Recognizing that you share your city with a wide range of animals can make you feel like a part of the grand circle of life and help you appreciate the importance of a healthy urban environment. You can admire the hardiness and adaptability of the urban animal while developing a sense of stewardship that inspires you to become their champion. The shrill calls of birds, the hum of bees, and the sweet squeaks of city-dwelling mammals can be a symphony that helps you develop a deeper connection with the natural world. 😎🎈

NATIONAL LIFE INSURANCE DAY
National Life Insurance Day is on May 2nd and marks the anniversary of the first day that life insurance became available in the U.S. The observance also brings awareness of the benefits of life insurance.
Life Insurance has a long, interesting history. Starting in 1760, when the sale of life insurance in the U.S. began. The Presbyterian Synods in Philadelphia and New York City created the Corporation for Relief of Poor and Distressed Widows and Children of Presbyterian Ministers in 1759.
On May 2, 1759, the charter recorded for the Corporation for Relief of Poor and Distressed Widows and Children of Presbyterian Ministers. Episcopalian priests created a comparable relief fund in 1769. Between 1787 and 1837, more than two dozen life insurance companies were started, but fewer than half a dozen survived.
Life insurance can do some pretty amazing things for people. It can buy loved one time to grieve. It can also pay off debts and loans, providing surviving family members with the chance to move on with a clean slate. Life insurance allows families to remain in their homes and pre-fund a child’s college education. When families own a business, life insurance will enable them to keep the business in the event of an untimely death. It also provides a stream of income for a family to live on for a period of time.

NATIONAL TRUFFLE DAY
National Truffle Day on May 2 serves up a deliciously sweet treat and places the chocolate truffle in the spotlight.
N. Petruccelli of Chambery, France is believed to be the inventor of the chocolate truffle in December 1895. Truffles became much more prevalent in 1902 after the Prestat Chocolate Shop opened in London. In fact, Prestat still sells “Napoleon III” truffles made to the original recipe.
Traditionally, chocolatiers make this sweet confection with a chocolate ganache center coated in chocolate, icing, cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or coconut. Oftentimes, they may fill the truffle with other yummy surprises, too. For example, some candy makers include cream, melted chocolate, caramel, nuts, fruit, nougat, fudge, toffee, mint, marshmallow, or liqueur.
The Truth About Truffles
Apparently, there is a huge misunderstanding among truffle lovers. One group believes the truffle is a sweet treat made by bakers, while another group has a slightly different idea on a true truffle. Unfortunately, this group of truffle experts feel a bit neglected when talking about the truffle. As a result, we are sharing our short list of what a “real” truffle is according to certain truffle experts, obviously.
Truffles are actually a mushrooms that grow underground near truffle oaks.
Real truffles apparently look similar to a small brown rock.
Truffles have been around for about 4,000 years. In fact, documentation says Egyptians eating them coated with goose fat.
Truffles are mostly found in Italy, southern France, and Croatia.
Truffle dogs and truffle dogs are specially trained to find truffle.
Shockingly, a truffle once sold for $3,000.
You can add chocolate to anything and it immediately becomes a delicacy. -
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
The National Day of Prayer is observed annually on the first Thursday in May. This day observance, designated by the United States Congress, asks people “to turn to God in prayer and meditation.”
For many, prayer is an integral part of daily life. Prayer offers a rich connection to our spiritual lives, nurturing our relationships and faith. It also provides comfort in times of crisis or need.

Sheba, hope the rain is easing up by now. We will be cool and cloudy for a few days. Had a funny OMG moment, was at an outlet store, purchased a small cardholder because I liked the bright color. Well, this morning, I took a look and found it was used and had a make-up receipt in it. I went back today and exchanged but am probably done with that store. Why can’t they just label returns as such and check them over. (eye rolling).
Does Poppy like the rain? I don’t mind rain but humidity gets tough.
Have a good evening. -

NATIONAL CHOCOLATE PARFAIT DAY
We have a hard time resisting a sweet celebration for National Chocolate Parfait Day on May 1. The delicious layers of chocolate, cream, and more chocolate sweetly stacked together is enough to make us skip lunch and go straight to dessert.
Enjoying a delicious chocolate parfait on May 1 would be the perfect way to end your day, or start it. We will leave that up to you to decide. We simply provide you with an opportunity to indulge on the scrumptious food holiday.
In French, the word parfait means perfect. French and Americans, however, have a differing opinions on what a parfait really is. The traditional French parfait is made by boiling cream, adding egg, sugar and syrup then creating a custard-type puree, which is then frozen. Americans, on the other hand, layer ingredients of differing varieties. Both French and Americans use a clear, tall glass when serving a chocolate parfait.
While National Chocolate Parfait Day focuses on the chocolate parfait, that does not mean you cannot experiment with other fresh flavors. For example, fresh fruit and cream go quite well with chocolate. You can top can add other ingredients, such as pretzels or cookie bits. The options are limitless and can only be hindered by by your imagination.
Some people may consider a chocolate parfait a comfort food. Though a parfait can be made into a healthy food, today is about indulging and treating yourself with a chocolate parfait! We will, however meet the healthy people half way by recommending adding strawberries or raspberries to your parfait.

NATIONAL MOTHER GOOSE DAY
National Mother Goose Day on May 1 honors the imaginary author of a collection of fairy tales and nursery rhymes we loved as children. Most of us remember Mother Goose as an elderly countrywoman in a tall hat and shawl, but she is sometimes seen as a goose wearing a bonnet.
Charles Perrault is said to be the initiator of the fairy tale genre after publishing his fairy tale collection in 1695. His publication marks the first authenticated starting-point for the Mother Goose stories. An English version of Perrault’s collection appeared in 1729: Robert Samber’s Histories or Tales of Past Times, Told by Mother Goose. These fairy tales introduced Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots, Cinderella, and others. Mother Goose’s Melody, a book of poems for children, was first published in 1781 and has been enjoyed by billions since.
Was Mother Goose Real?
The true identity of Mother Goose is a great debate among historians. Some people believe Mother Goose dates back to before the 10th century during the reign of King Robert II. Legend says his wife often told exaggerated tales to keep the interest of children. In American culture, Mother Goose was a woman who lived in Boston some time during the late 17th century. Elizabeth Foster Goose, or maybe Mary Goose, was the wife of Isaac Goose. After becoming a widow, she moved in with her oldest daughter. She spent most of her time with her grandchildren often singing catchy jingles to them. Her singing became so popular, neighborhood children would stop to hear her. Urban legend says her publisher son-in-law decided to print the rhymes, and the rest is.

SCHOOL PRINCIPALS’ DAY
School Principals’ Day on May 1 is your reminder to take time to today and say thank you to the educational leaders who look after your children every day. After all, they guide academic success and set the tone for an entire school.
Principals are some of the hardest working, yet can be the most underappreciated people in the education system. Without them, a school would not operate on a daily basis. They set the academic tone by encouraging students to thrive. They implement their vision through dedication and determination to provide a successful and positive environment for students and teachers.
Throughout the academic year, school principals’ assume the commitment to lead students to a prosperous future. They support and guide quality teachers and staff, resulting in productive learning environments for our children. Whether they lead an elementary, middle, or high school, a principal shows leadership skills while being approachable. In fact, many students see their principals as role models because they are approachable.
Teachers rely on principals to ensure the schools provide the necessary equipment and resources. They also rely on principals to counsel and discipline students when needed. However, the role of a principal is not limited to just their office setting. A principal represents the school at community events, including sporting events. They also meet with superintendents and community members for various reasons. School principals prepare reports about staff, the needs of staff and students, and suggestions to help their school operate better.

MAY DAY
May Day ushers in a traditional celebration of flowers and spring. In many ancient calendars, May 1 welcomed the first day of summer, which was truly a cause for celebration.
May Day has been a traditional day of celebration for centuries, with some of the earliest appearing in pre-Christian times. One of the more popular rituals was harvesting flowers and giving them to neighbors and strangers in cone-shaped baskets. These May Baskets become more commonly known as May Day Baskets. The current tradition is observed by hanging a cone-shaped basket full of flowers or other gifts on the outside doorknob, then knocking or ringing the doorbell and running away.
What Are A Few May Day Celebrations from Around the World?
In English tradition, the observance is celebrated by crowning a May Queen and dancing around a maypole.
The Finnish recognize a carnival-type celebration in the streets that includes a special type of lemonade made with lemons, brown sugar, and yeast.
In France, it is correct to give people either dogwood or lily of the valley while Italians celebrate with a seasonal feast in honor of the arrival of spring.

Wishing you a healthy and happy May. 😎🎈

Good afternoon in Florida. OZ is alright today we are in the 60’s bit cloudy.
I am fine with that. My heart still goes out to your husband’s room mate.
May he RIP.Oodie you had me chuckling at ways to get good food to your husband.
I hope the Rehab can work this out. Wishing you a wonderful May. 🎈😎
Let me know how your day goes and I hope it’s all good.
-
I will be bringing the other half of the grinder along with the strawberry cheesecake. It will not be in a refrigerated case. They want to play games, so will I. I am in the process of changing my work clothes to the visiting one. I do not like the idea that I cannot bring something. If he doesn’t eat his dinner I am devastated. I tried to reach the head nurse, he wasn’t in. Will try again tomorrow. The problem is not the food, but his eating habit. If the nurse would take the time to watch, they would see the problem first hand. It takes all my strength at times to get him to take small bites and to chew it well. When he listens there is no problem. I also have blueberries and Dragon Fruit which I will nuke together for tomorrow. Will write more later.
Glad your weather has changed, but still be careful. The storms are not over just yet.
-
We have a storm coming it will be rain. I hope you get your husband food safely
and I don’t like the way the nurses are handling the situation.I can’t wait for your husband to come home. 🌹🌹
Drive safe on the way home.

Oodie, Is there a patient bill of rights somewhere on a wall there? Sometimes these places forget who they serve and why they are there. Glad you are planning your food for hubs with the plastic bags.
Sorry about your husbands roommate. Very sad. Maybe they couldn’t say much due to hippa laws. -
Good morning in S. California. Wishing you a great first day of May. 😎🎈

Sheba, Wow, May 1st already. How’s your brother doing today?
Unplanned haircut and color today or would have had to wait until June. My hairdresser has a one week Mexico vacation in the mix for May, No time for trails today so I will make up for it tomorrow.
Sounds like more rain is on the way for you. I think we are done for a while here.
Hubs spotted a visiting bunny on the security camera so he and son put out some treats for it.
My son is doing well. We are waiting for some more results from some testing but he seems good and hoping it was just the low potassium that caused the issue. -

Finding Freedom in No
Saying no to somebody when we’re used to saying yes, can be challenging because of our fear of rejection.
Many of us, from childhood on, were taught that saying yes is right and saying no is wrong. We learned that acceding to demands allowed us to avoid conflict and criticism, please people, earn praise, and prove that we care for the important people in our lives. Yet the right to say no is indelibly intertwined with the ability to make choices. When we sense we are limited in our options, and compelled to say yes even when doing so is not in our interests, we are effectively robbed of our ability to choose. Growing out of this tendency to say yes even when we desperately want to say no can be challenging because we suspect that others will reject us for our assertiveness. But the reward we receive when facing this challenge is true freedom of choice.
When others ask you to take on work or do favors, consider their requests carefully. If you feel pressed to say yes, consider whether you are acquiescing out of a desire for approval or to stave off disapproval. Remind yourself often that the ability to say no is an important aspect of well-being, as it is an indication that you understand the true value of your energy, talents, and time. As you learn to articulate your personal power by saying no, you may feel compelled to explore the myriad consequences of the word by responding negatively to many or most of the requests put to you. The word “no” may even become your default response for some time. When you see that life moves forward without interruption, you will grow more comfortable saying no and will resume making decisions from a point of balance.
There is nothing inherently wrong with acceding to the requests others make of you, provided these requests do not infringe upon your health or your happiness. Keep in mind, it is only when you feel you have the legitimate right to say no that you can say yes with utmost certainty, sincerity, and enthusiasm. While saying yes almost always has a cost, you can feel good about offering your agreement when your reasons for doing so are rooted in your individual values and your appreciation for the appeal before you.

NATIONAL RAISIN DAY
April 30th recognizes another food holiday known as National Raisin Day. Raisins are tiny sundried grapes. While sunlight dries most grapes naturally in vineyards, some are mechanically dehydrated.
People have been enjoying raisins for as long as grapes have been growing. Raisins are naturally low in fat and contain healthy nutrients. California produces the majority of the world’s raisin supply.
Besides adding raisins to baked goods, you can also use raisins to make wine. Yes, grapes are used to make raisins AND wine. But in this case, we can make wine from raisins, too! So, technically, raisin day could be considered a wine day, too.
-
NATIONAL BUGS BUNNY DAY
National Bugs Bunny Day on April 30th commemorates the date the famous bunny first appeared in a short film in 1938.
Known for his comical antics, Bugs Bunny created memorable roles in Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons produced by Warner Bros. The wascally wabbit caused many a raucous scene for his castmates Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Porky Pig, Pepe Le Pew, and Marvin the Martian. However, his eminent counterpart was forever the estimable hunter, Elmer Fudd.
His popular catchphrase, “What’s up, doc?” continues to be associated with the humorous bunny. He first appeared in 1938 in Porky’s Hare Hunt as a Happy Rabbit but later solidified his character as Bugs Bunny in the 1940 A Wild Hare.
Over the years, various actors have voiced the animated bunny. However, Mel Blanc originally voiced the iconic “Eh, what’s up, doc?” voice and he did so for almost 50 years.

NATIONAL OATMEAL COOKIE DAY
National Oatmeal Cookie Day on April 30th each year recognizes a delicious and nutritious cookie. This day is also often recognized on March 18th in conjunction with National Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day.
Oatmeal cookies have been around since the 1800s. The cookies quickly became popular, and by early the 1900s, a recipe for the delicious treats appeared on containers of Quaker Oats. Oatmeal cookies are also considered health food because they are an excellent source of iron and fiber. Just another reason to have an oatmeal cookie today! Some of the other benefits of the oatmeal in the cookies include:
It may lower cholesterol.
Oatmeal reduces the risk of heart disease.
It may reduce your risk of cancer. (According to the American Cancer Society, eating a diet high in fiber may help reduce your risk for cancer.)
The grain is low in fat.
Oatmeal is low in calories.
Add oatmeal to your diet as a good source of iron and fiber. -
NATIONAL HAIRSTYLIST APPRECIATION DAY
Each year on April 30th, National Hairstylist Appreciation Day honors hairstylists everywhere who make artful hairstyles possible. A talented hairstylist will not only make you look good but also make you feel good. This day also celebrates the uniqueness of all styles of hair.
Hairstylists receive training that gives them experience with a variety of textures, styles, and colors. No matter your style, your hairstylist knows the latest cuts and fashions to make your favorite looks come true. They also know how to keep your hair healthy and manageable, too. Whether you like it short, piled high, or sassy, stylists spend their days honing their skills so you look your best.
You know it’s time to make an appointment when this holiday comes around! Make the call and let your hairstylist know how much they are appreciated.

NATIONAL ADOPT A SHELTER PET DAY
Each year, National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day on April 30th raises awareness for thousands of pets that are waiting for (and needing) adoption from the shelters.
Animal shelters require year-round assistance and adoption is a part of the process. Since animals come in daily, the shelters must work quickly to ensure the animal’s health and well being. Only then can they be adopted into their forever home. The day also encourages you to visit a shelter near you and find your new fur baby. Visit with the shelter to consider all the needs the dog or cat requires for the long term.
If you feel you can’t meet those needs, consider helping in other ways. Give your time by volunteering. Not only will this help the shelter by providing the animals with exercise, companionship, and socialization, but it also gives you that wonderful animal love we all so enjoy.
You can also check the shelter’s donation needs list. Bring the items you are able to give. This will help the shelter animals find their forever homes more quickly.

Ella Fitzgerald Happy Heavenly Birthday. Thank you all those years ago for being so kind
to me I will treasure that little speck of time forever. 😎🎈 -
Someone to Watch Over Me
Song by Ella FitzgeraldThere’s a saying old, says that love is blind
Still we’re often told, seek and ye shall find
So I’m going to seek a certain lad I’ve had in mind
Looking everywhere, haven’t found him yet
He’s the big affair I cannot forget
Only man I ever think of with regret
I’d like to add his initial to my monogram
Tell me, where is the shepherd for this lost lamb?
There’s a somebody I’m longin’ to see
I hope that he turns out to be
Someone who’ll watch over me
I’m a little lamb who’s lost in the wood
I know I could always be good
To one who’ll watch over me
Although he may not be
The man some girls think of as handsome
To my heart, he carries the key
Won’t you tell him please to put on some speed
Follow my lead, oh, how I need
Someone to watch over me -

Good day in Florida I am praying and hoping we will all hear from you some day. 🎈😘💕
Xango you are missed I just want everything to be alright with you and the family. -
Good afternoon to you I hope you are resting. 🎈😎How is your husband doing today?
I am thinking of his room mate and I hope he has returned to his room.Oodie Oz is beautiful right now but tonight that will all change. I am talking about RAIN!
I have no problem with that. 🎈💕😎Poppy is under the weather now he seems tired. I will just take a short walk with him he
loves being outdoors and walking. 💕I hope you found some good deals at the Market somehow Florida’s Markets are very
different than Kansas Markets. Oodie your markets seems to have more of a variety of
the good stuff. 💕😎 -
I hope Poppy is ok. With viruses hitting pets you may want to visit the vet just to be on the safe side.
Didn’t visit hubby yesterday. Fell sound asleep and awoke around 11pm. Had to look at the clock several times before it Sunni in.
I am with hubby now. Arrived just as his dinner was served. I brought strawberries from Ca.,, cheesecake with strawberries (homemade by the Farmers Market, and a cheese pizza. Oops..brought an Italian grinder. Then I got chewed out for bringing food. No food for him and that includes soft food. Unfortunately, tonight’s dinner was mush. He wouldn’t touch it. If I hadn’t brought him something, he would not get anything until 8am or so tomorrow. I am fuminng. The head nurse has not relayed this info. The food I brought is soft. But that doesn’t matter. Ice cream is also a no no. Besides, we were just told that his roommate past this morning. I am very distraught. He was a very nice person and made me smile. He started coughing about two months ago. The cough grew worse and the nurses put him on an atomizer. Then last week he was in bed full time. He was thin to begin with, but lost quite a bit in less than four days. He went to the hospital for tests. Have not heard the outcome. I can only surmise it was cancer or Covid. No family members have been here. I will miss him.
Just read about your younger brother. Glad he is ok. The. Fact he is thin and was in good health prior speaks volumes. My dad passed due to heart disease. Back in those days exercise was not something to do. Rather taking it easy was the lay of the land. Hubby’s dad also had heart disease. This is why I do not like him in bed all day.
-
I am very sad to hear about the room mate. I hope your husband hurry up and get out of
that place. Home is where the heart is. I know you pay a fortune for them to tell you what
he cannot eat. The food is soft that should work.Poppy has appointment for the Vet this week I am leaving nothing to chance and I live
in Dog Country I mean this neighborhood has nothing but dogs and babies in buggies.Poppy seems fine tonight we are having a rain storm and I am on the watch for the cats.
I managed to feed one and I feel really good about that. I hope I see the other two.Oodiebom my your husband’s room mate memory be a blessing.
Thank you for your thoughts on my brother I just did not want to bother anyone once he
was stable and the problem was solved. 💕 -
Oodie, if this helps, i sent my mother Cheeses and crackers from CA to AZ to the hospital and it stayed cold. I was shocked but took a chance because I knew she needed it. I used cold packs and a soft thermal lunch pack type container. Maybe I got lucky.
-
Oodie, Hello. Maybe you can sneak food into that place. I sincerely hope he gets home soon.
-
Good morning in S. California here is to a great Tuesday. 🎈😎
Oz is alright today we have rain on the way.I left you a note to your post from last night. How is your son doing?
Hey get back into your groove and enjoy the trails. 😎
If you see this along the way just smile.
-
Sheba, Sorry about your brother and his er visit and surgery. What a scare that must have been for everyone. Glad he is doing well and hope he continues to do so.
Getting back to the trails…. well today I met someone on the trail and she saw me yesterday running a bit so you know I had to invite her to run with me a bit today and she did! It was great. She told me she did the Camino and is doing it again next year. Btw, it was a very slow run, the local runners were zooming by and so nice. -
Thank you for your thoughts I was trying not to worry everyone. This was hard on his
wife because he collapse and other brother had her call the ambulance which was a life
saver. All is calm and good and they are watching some NBA Games. Bro has work tomorrow.Poppy is doing fine tonight I don’t think the loud thunder helped. I am trying to feed the
other two cats already feed one.I have had a very long and trying week.
I am meeting many ladies along the way with Poppy I always like to stop and chatter. 💕
I do a brisk walk which get those endorphins up and running.Taci enjoy your evening 😎
-
Thanks for the note. I do sneak food in. I had just arrived from the Farmer’s Market and had the freezer bag. Guess someone saw me arrive. I am now getting ready for the trip home. The market had a deal on cheese pizza and so brought it with me. I also purchased an Italian grinder which is hubby’s favorite. Also brought bananas., Ca. strawberries were on sale, so included that as we!!. .As of today all food I bring will be confiscated, but there are other ways for me to continue. I just have to think of a way to refrigerate the strawberries.I am highly allergic to them.
-
Hi again. I just walked in and turned the computer on and saw your note. All the food is now in the frig. 12 plastic bags worth. I am highly allergic to strawberries and they were my only concern. The strawberries are ripe and I used gloves to put them into the frig. To think way back when I used to plant strawberries in our front yard. I used the plants as ground cover. Not only were the leaves pretty, but to actually see the strawberries ripen and hubby having the time of his life pioking them made my day. It was worth the itches and the swelling from the hives just to watch him go to town. Of course, after that, I used an epi.
My husband never had problems swallowing food until recently At home we would sit at our kitchen bar or in the dining area or in the den with a tray . He never ate a meal in bed. Once in a while he had problems with apples. Hubby has to learn to take small bites and to chew his food. No more swallowing anything whole. He ate one small slice of pizza and a half of the Italian grinder. He choked on the water that I made him drink which we both laughed at as I left. The pizza crust was soft and so was the grinder roll. The breads are all made by the Amish as is all their deli and food take out items. The bakery area is huge and it’s always difficult to make a choice. I tried their marble rye just a few weeks ago and it was delicious. The bread has a great flavor whether just out of the frig or toasted. There was nothing that he could not eat. I even had a bow tie salad and macaroni salad as a backup. I was also told not to bring him ice cream from Culvers anymore or from anyone else. This thing is really getting out of hand. Tomorrow I will be contacting our regular physician for a second opinion. The food he turned down was baby food from a jar. It smelled awful and even the aid who delivered turned his nose up as well. Nurses do not always know the best way to handle the situation. If I am not there when food is delivered, there is no one to remind him to take small bites and to chew his food well before swallowing. It is also a good way to lose weight. Again, thanks for the advice.
It’s so good to have friends that are there for you. Oh how I will miss hubby’s roommate. -
Good afternoon in the beautiful ‘burgh. 😘🎈😎I hope you are relaxing and enjoying
