Conversation 24
Hello Peeps time for a new Conversation Thread. This is number 24 out of the
series. I created and started this thread 10 years ago.
I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. ✨😎
I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. 🌹✨😎

NATIONAL DOG MOM’S DAY
During the second Saturday in May, National Dog Mom’s Day sends out a chorus of yips, barks, and howls of praise for all the dog mommas!
Our dogs are our family members, whether they came into our lives unexpectedly or as carefully planned additions. We adopt them as puppies, adolescents, or fully mature animals with a bit of baggage, and yet, we find common ground, a connection, and bond like families do. They know our moods, and we know theirs. We care for them, shelter them, and share an immeasurable loyalty with them.
National Dog Mom’s Day recognizes the bond women share with their fur kids. When they humor us, charm us or even when they are naughty, they are like any other child to us.
-
STAMP OUT HUNGER FOOD DRIVE DAY
The second Saturday in May is the largest one-day food drive in the nation named Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Day. How is it possible? It occurs in more than 10,000 cities and towns, and the food is collected by those men and women carrying our mail across the country.
As they deliver to you mail order parts, bills, and postcards, you get to do your part by filling their mailbag with non-perishable food donations.
Over the last 20 years, one billion pounds of food has been delivered by this drive which is sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers. The letter carriers representing the NALC receive help from rural letter carriers, other postal employees, and other volunteers. The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has received a number of accolades over the years, including two Presidential Certificates of Achievement.

NATIONAL EAT WHAT YOU WANT DAY
Observed annually on May 11th, National Eat What You Want Day sets diets aside for a day of indulgence. It’s about having one day a year of eating with no regrets. Whether you love donuts or fast food, today is your day to gratify without feeling guilty.
Chili cheese dogs, greasy hamburgers, french fries, potato chips, cake, cookies, candy, and ice cream are just a few of the things you can enjoy today without remorse. Decadent food is definitely on the menu today. The saying, “Everything in moderation” applies to this holiday quite aptly. Though, we’re not quite sure they meant EVERYTHING at the same time.
However, a sample of this and a sample of that sure has a way of satisfying a sweet tooth or a greasy yearning. Need a salt fix? This holiday offers it. How about a crunch craving? Yep, we’re sure you can find what you’re looking for. Whether it is a rich, fried or fast, frozen, baked, or spicy eat what you want.
Some of us have that one irresistible food that we avoid at all costs because we know if it’s in the house we’ll eat it all. It’s our weakness, our kryptonite. This holiday suggests that we bend to our kryptonite just this one time each year.
-
NATIONAL TWILIGHT ZONE DAY
Always observed on May 11th, National Twilight Zone Day features mysterious twists and turns highlighted with eerie background music and unexplainable occurrences. The television show The Twilight Zone was created, written, and narrated by Rod Serling. It premiered on October 1, 1959. The episodes were wildly popular, stretched the imagination, and captivated viewers. The show aired from 1959-1964. Rod Serling also created the show’s spin-off called Night Gallery.
Each episode presented unique stories that led the viewer on a journey into an unknown situation. The characters often revealed their backstories through intense exchanges. Settings ranged from the wild west to penthouse suites. And yet each story took place in the 5th dimension, in The Twilight Zone.

NATIONAL BIRTH MOTHER’S DAY
National Birth Mother’s Day on the Saturday before Mother’s Day honors birth mothers and offers a show of support. It is a day to recognize the biological mothers of adopted children.
Each birth mother’s experience is personal. While the day originated as a day of solidarity, education, and compassion, it has evolved and may be received with a mixture of emotions. It may also be viewed as a celebration of the life a birth mother has brought into the world and has chosen to share with another family. Children of adoption may even also participate in the day, celebrating their birth mothers and the life they gave them.

She I was able to go online, read in the news where a cable wire came down along with the pole. It took quite awhile before everything was working.

Happy Mother’s Day to you!!🌹 I’m sure you have gotten some wonderful gifts from your children and Poppy.🎁💗
Crazy weather day, one minute the sun is out and the next it is raining. Some severe storms all around us.⛈ I did try to see the northern lights last night but too many high trees. Someone in our township posted some pics and they were beautiful. I’ll try staying up later tonight in hopes to see it.
I am really going to try to plant tomorrow. Last couple days too much rain, great for the flowers but not for the planter. I don’t need to grow anymore!😂
Have a super day tomorrow, love and hugs to you and Poppy.🤗💖

NATIONAL CLEAN UP YOUR ROOM DAY
Spring cleaners get their wish granted each year when National Clean Up Your Room Day arrives on May 10th. Children often dread this parent-appreciated day. Though, some years, the observance arrives with perfect timing for Mother’s Day!
However, the observance doesn’t only target kids. It is also about picking up, straightening up, and cleaning up the whole house. Adults take spring cleaning seriously, and homes get aired out. They organize, de-clutter, and rearrange. It’s time to fix the broken and match up missing parts, like with like. We tackle cluttered closets and donate or throw away those things we no longer use. Help your children make their beds, clean their rooms, and eliminate the toys and clothing they have outgrown.
The day helps garages, sheds, and cabinets see the light of day. Drawers, closets (did we say that already), and under the bed get thoroughly organized. Find ways to repurpose items around the house, too. Look at old things in new ways:
Use an old towel bar on your potting bench and hang S hooks to store your tools.
Broken dresser drawers become bookshelves or under-bed storage.
How many ways can you repurpose an unused wine rack? storage for towels in the bathroom take it to the craft area for all the small tools, glue and yarn store water bottles and travel mugs
Tissue boxes make terrific storage for plastic bags, but they also work well for used dryer sheets. Reuse the dryer sheets to wipe down the washer and dryer to keep it dust-free and clean out the lint trap.
Use old magazine racks to store cutting boards, baking sheets, and other flat kitchen items. -
Feel free to call my son….

NATIONAL MILITARY SPOUSE APPRECIATION DAY
Always the Friday before Mother’s Day, National Military Spouse Appreciation Day recognizes the significant contributions, support, and sacrifices of the spouses of the Armed Forces. National Military Spouse Appreciation Day is also sometimes known as Military Spouse Day.
Along with the tremendous strength and patriotism they have, military spouses endure frequent change and unexpected developments in their lives. They prepare for many unknowns during military life, often unable to make a plan for more than a few days in advance. The hold down the home front during deployments, training, and many other circumstances while their husband or wife serve their country. Depending on the length of service, they may move many times and often all over the world. Military spouses also spend many months apart during stressful deployments with limited communication or for training.
But they bear these responsibilities by caring for and relying on family. With every move, they find a new job, help their children adjust to new schools and friends. They learn about a new community and its culture. During separations, they celebrate holidays at unusual times or host long-distance birthday parties. By supporting our service members and ensuring a sound home, our military is stronger and more prepared.

NATIONAL SHRIMP DAY
Each year on May 10th, National Shrimp Day recognizes America’s favorite seafood. Americans eat moreshrimp than any other seafood, and this is the day to celebrate this delicious seafood.
We use the word “prawn” loosely to describe any large shrimp, sometimes known as “jumbo shrimp.” Some countries use the word “prawn” exclusively for all shrimp.
Preparing the shrimp for consumption usually involves removing the head, shell, tail, and “sand vein.” There are many ways to cook shrimp. Standard methods of preparation include baking, boiling, broiling, sauteing, frying, and grilling. Cooking time is delicate for shrimp, and they are at their best when not overcooked.
Ahealthy food, shrimp, is low in calories and high in omega-3, calcium, iodine, and protein levels. Shrimp is also known to be considered good for the circulatory system.
Popular North America Shrimp Dishes:
Seafood Gumbo: A stew or soup that probably originated in southern Louisiana during the 18th century. Seafood gumbo typically consists of a strongly-flavored stock, shrimp and crab meat (sometimes oysters), a thickener, and seasoning vegetables. Cooks categorize Gumbo by the type of thickener used: okra, the Choctaw spice, file powder (dried and ground sassafras leaves), or roux, the French base made of flour and fat.
Shrimp Cocktail: The Golden Gate served shrimp cocktails before any other restaurant. Their menu listed shrimp cocktails for .50 cents in 1959. It is now a Las Vegas cliché. Called the “Original Shrimp Cocktail” on the menu, it is a favorite among tourists and the locals. The original Shrimp Cocktail consists of a regular-sized sundae glass filled with small salad shrimp and topped with a dollop of cocktail sauce.
Shrimp DeJonghe: A specialty of Chicago, it is a casserole of the whole, peeled shrimp blanketed in soft, garlic, sherry-laced bread crumbs. Restaurants often serve it as an appetizer or a main course. It originated in the late 19th or early 20th century at the DeJonghe’s Hotel and Restaurant.Shrimp Scampi: This dish has its own day onApril 29,and it is cooked in butter, garlic, lemon juice, and white wine.
Shrimp and other shellfish are among the most common food allergens.

NATIONAL PROVIDER APPRECIATION DAY
National Provider Appreciation Day, also known as National Child Care Provider Day, is annually celebrated on the Friday before Mother’s Day. The special day recognizes child care providers, teachers, and other educators of young children everywhere.
Child care providers deserve a big “Thank you” for their dedication, commitment, and compassion. Less than one-third of the children in America have a full-time stay-at-home parent. Since the child care provider is a partner in raising children, parents carefully choose their child care provider. It may be a private home daycare, a daycare center, an in-home provider, or a live-in nanny. Parents put their trust in their childcare providers as they share child-rearing responsibilities with them.

excited and I think you are excited too. 💕🎈Oodie I hope you both have a wonderful time when this happens you both deserve it.
Wishing you a nice Friday enjoy the markets and fresh food.

I still cannot sign in. I know you also enjoy playing in the Arcade. I am giving you and everyone else a head’s up. Be aware. Make sure you check and recheck the entire area. My virus software notified me that there were problems and I immediately ran the software which took hours.
I am having kitchen problems. I have not been able to use the dishwasher. When you open it, it smells soapy. The disposal does not run so will have it removed. Yes,I have tried the reset button and also tried turning the underneath area to no avail. For some reason it does not connect with the electrical. Second time this has happened. It’s under a year.
Had a phone call yesterday from the Rehab. Hubby started physical therapy again. From what I gathered they will be trying to get him to stand and maybe take a few steps. They will also teach him how to use his hands more. Sounds good. I hope he practices.
I will try to bring the piano today. Cool down, well sort of, begins today. Temps will remain high. But with less humidity. Take care. Stay safe.
-
I have re-read your post I am so sorry about the KP. I wish I were an electrician. ✨
Oodie you are good at getting busy with any problem you seem to be on the right
track about the dishwasher I would call a service person to see if this can be fix at
a reasonable price.I do hope the PT works for your husband he needs to come home.🌹
I am paying attention to the Arcade issues after reading about your experience
I will lay off for now. I hope HSN can fix whatever the issue is.✨Oz is a beautiful night and I hope to get a glimpse of the aurora borealis.
The weather people say we may be able to see it over the next three nights.
I would settle for one. 😎🌹This solar storm will be intense and some will be without power.
I hope you are able to see and enjoy it. I have a baby possum on the porch drinking
water. I will let him have water as I put it in a different bowl.Oodie wishing you a nice cool night. ✨🌹
-
To get an idea of what I was really going through, I posted to the Customer Service thread either Tuesday or Wednesday and daily since then. My advice to you and to those who read your thread is to run your virus software when leaving the Arcade area. I do not mean a little scan. You need to do a complete one which in some cases (like mine) take hours or more. It is very scary to have someone follow you as you visit other websites using the same and different browsers. This happened to me years ago with the same game people, Arkadium and another one under E.. When I realized who HSN chose for the Arcade I was scared. However, being that HSN has a Tech Unit and they did their homework, I thought playing would be safe and of course, after seeing Hubby, it quiets the nerves and gives me some relaxation at the end of the day. For now, I will be going elsewhere to play whatever. Also, please remember to turn your computer completely off at the end of day. You have no idea who may be lurking on the web looking to do ham to your computer. I am up and running again, but will not be holding my breath. Tomorrow is another day, Hopefully, I will be able to sign in and shop or do what we call “window shopping.”
I am hoping that we will also have a peak at the Aurora Borealis. When I was in my teens (yesterday), my dad had awaken me so I could watch the sky change colors from red to blues to white and back to the blues. It was breathtaking. Dad was watching the cloud formations as he drove home from work which had to be around midnight. Like you, I hope to have another opportunity. Oh, by the way, as I left the rehab, the moon was a yellowy orange. I hope that it might be an indication of what is to come. I may go out shortly to take a peek, but will first look out of the kitchen window to see if there is anything. Have a nice evening and a great adventure. Take pictures if you can. I will try with Kindle and my phone. Oh, yes, on the new offspring visiting and drinking water. They look awful, but many have become household pets. Me, not sure if I want one near me…….
-
Oodie, hope you see this. The PT and OC were not live-in’s. They were by appt and sometimes came without appts if in the area. Great people.
Hopefully someone at the rehab will have some idea’s, maybe even patients or their relatives?
We also used a visiting nurse but it’s hard to find or impossible, especially if you live in an area with lots of retirees. -
Oodie, sorry you are experiencing some kitchen issues. Wanted to let you know my Mother had PT and Occupational therapy to the house. I think it was covered, as fyi.
Hope you have a lovely Weekend! -
Good morning in S. California you seem to be on the down low lately I hope things are
going alright for you and the family. I also want to wish a Happy Mother’s Day Weekend. 😎🎈💕I know you are thinking of your mother during this time. My heart goes out to you.
Hey enjoy the trails today if you are able to. 🎶🎶
-
Sheba, Hello! Hope you have a wonderful Mothers Day Weekend. I know you will be busy with your lovely children and family. We went for an overnight trip and a long hike. We haven’t done this hike for a while and I felt the elevation. It’s about 1-2 hours drive and then about 2.5 miles winding up and an easy downhill trek afterwards. Saw one healthy coyote running alongside the path in the opposite direction. Views were great.
I will check out the Heidi thread. Loved the beautiful butterfly pin here on HSN and the Chantilly Lace elsewhere… 🙂 Haven’t bought though. ok Yet.
Enjoy your walk with Poppy, hope he keeps the pace up for you. -
I knew you got away even for a day or two it is great on the soul. ✨😎
I have done some planting and it is going great it does tire you out when
you are getting rid of the old soil and put down fresh soil.I am going to take a nice long shower and enjoy the aurora borealis.
No big plans for mother’s day the kids and hubby and I agree to another place
and another time. 😎🌹😘Very nice night for a short walk and this is because we have foxes, coyotes and then
some running around. ✨ -
Sheba, planting and moving soil is hard work. When i dug my older unhealthy plants (3) I felt it in my stomach muscles. This was a good btw as they need some work. I planted just a few tomato plants, one basil, one cilantro, and then moved around some regular type plants. Hubs has been feeding a bunny hanging out in our yard, This is going to sound odd but someone put a newer looking pair of sneakers next to our trash bin. Then someone else walked by sometime before the trash pickup and took a long look at them and then walked off with them. It’s so weird here.
Love security camera’s…. -
Thank you for being so thoughtful. I realize that outside resources are a good possibility and will be covered by insurance. hubby cannot get in or out of bed on his own. Though we can have help, our HOA does not permit a live inr more than two weeks. This has been on the Agenda a number of times and the Board insists that if we need someone as a live in then it’s time to look at assisted living or a convalescent home. Neither of us are ready for this decision. I can give him support if he is able to stand on one leg. I would love to use the pool at the YMCA, however, I need to find a way to get him there. I have been checking some resources. And also looking at slings.
Enjoy your hikes. The next day or so the temps will be up, but the humidity will be lower. Not so sure how that will feel in 90 degree heat and this is only May.
-
Good afternoon in the beautiful ‘burgh. 🎈💕😎I have been getting a lot done in the past
few days. Lady I was tired last night I took a nice Korres/Perlier shower and slept like a baby. 💕I hope you enjoy this weekend for mother’s Day. Lady don’t forget you are mother too with
Jake and all the others. 😘🎈💕😎Enjoy the day sending warm OZ hugs to you and Jake. 😘🎈

Create a Soft Place to Land
Create a soft place to land in your home — a refuge from the stress of the day.
Our day-to-day demands can quickly take their toll on our well-being if we are not vigilant about caring for ourselves as best we can. One way we can ensure that we have an opportunity to relax and recuperate each day is to create a soft place to land when we arrive home. This landing pad, whether it is an entire room or merely a small corner of an area, can provide us with a safe and comforting refuge in which we can decompress and recover from the day’s stresses. There, we are enveloped in feelings of security that transcend other issues that may be unfolding in our homes. Our landing pads also act as way stations that enable us to shift our attention away from our outer-world concerns and back to our inner-world needs.
To create a soft place to land in your home, begin by scouting potential locations, or perhaps, your entire home is your landing pad in which case you may only need to declutter. Your habits can provide you with insight into the perfect spot, as there may be an area of your home you gravitate to naturally when you are in need of comfort. Any space in which you find it easy to let go of stress and anxiety can become your landing pad. A basement or attic, spare room, or unused storage area, furnished with items that soothe you, can give you the privacy you need to unwind. If you appreciate the natural elements, you may find that spending time in a section of your garden or outdoor patio helps you release the day’s tensions. Preparing these spaces can be as easy as replacing clutter with a small selection of beautiful objects that put you in a relaxed frame of mind. Remember to consider noise and activity levels when choosing the site of your landing pad. If you know that ordinary human commotion will distract you from your purpose, look for a secluded spot.
Your soft place to land should inspire within you the mantra, “I can breathe here. I can relax here. I know I am safe here.” When you return to your home after braving worldly rigors, you will feel a subtle yet tranquil shift occur inside of you as you settle in to this most personal of retreats and feel centered once again.

NATIONAL MOSCATO DAY
On May 9th, raise your glass and toast National Moscato Day. Moscato, or Muscat in Italian, is one of the oldest known varieties of grapes grown in the world.
The Moscato grape ranges in color from white to almost black. Its flavor varies, too, from sweet to dry. Winemakers use this quite versatile grape to make everything from sparkling and dessert wines to dry and floral wines. Where one Moscato may pair well with a steak, another will go well with fresh fruit and a sharp cheese plate.
In February of 2012, it was reported that Moscato wine became the third most popular white wine consumed within the United States.
-
I love Moscato – but you probably already knew that!🍾
-
NATIONAL ALPHABET MAGNET DAY
Beautiful letters and clever language come together in one celebration on May 9th. National Alphabet Magnet Day recognizes the ingenuity and creativity of making words from magnetic letters.
Have you ever spent the morning rearranging the alphabet magnets on your fridge while you sip your coffee? Perhaps your child sits at your feet, practicing the alphabet while shuffling the letters.
Incredibly, these colorful classic letters have been around for 50 years. In 1972, Fisher-Price first released the School Days Desk. The small plastic case served dual functions as storage and a desk. Beneath the chalkboard top, the desk held word cutouts and magnetic plastic letters.
A decade before, advertisements for magnetic chalkboards began appearing. The sets included plastic or wooden letters with magnets attached to the backs. Around the same time, inventor Samuel Hardcastle developed magnetic molded letters for use in the space industry.
Following the release of the School Days Desk, these colorful magnetic letters made their way to our refrigerators. In the decades to come, they evolved into a decorative way to leave short messages, experiment with wordplay, or wax poetic. National Alphabet Magnet Day celebrates this intriguing history and invites you to get creative with magnetic letters.

NATIONAL HOME FRONT HEROES DAY
Each year on May 9th, National Home Front Heroes Day honors millions of civilians, past and present, who provide support to service members from the home front. Dedicated heroes roll up their sleeves, support neighbors, communities, and our nation at home while our service members are abroad. As a result, service members have a peace of mind knowing their families, businesses, and communities are taken care of at home.
For hundreds of years, military service members have left home to serve their country. Historically, World War II had the most impressive number of Home Front Heroes that would keep the country going. In fact, during the war Americans stepped up to the task with remarkable determination. In addition, the civilian contribution to the war effort was extraordinary. In return, it led to encouragement for service members to complete successful military operations overseas.
Contributions made by Home Front Heroes is a long one, respectively. However, there are few well-known contributions which include:
Women joining the production lines;
Hosting charitable food, metal, and medical drives;
Businesses shifting to military production;
Rationing goods, such as sugar, coffee, and rubber; and
Victory Gardens planted to ensure adequate food supply on the homefront.
Today, Home Front Heroes are still making it possible for military service members to honor their commitment to our nation. Unsurprisingly, Home Front Heroes continue to actively participate in charitable organizations, volunteer in their communities, provide relief work, and dedicate time and money to help support service members and their families. -
NATIONAL BUTTERSCOTCH BROWNIE DAY
National Butterscotch Brownie Day on May 9th each year recognizes a delicious treat. Butterscotch Brownies, also known as Blondies or Brookies (brownie + cookie) made their debut before chocolate brownies. Recipes date back to the 19th century and are made up of flour, brown sugar, butter, eggs, baking powder, and vanilla. Walnuts, pecans, or butterscotch chips are sometimes added to the brownies.
These brownies taste delicious with a dollop of ice cream on top. They also make terrific trifles when cut up into chunks and layered with puddings or mousse, and whipped cream. Make them for bake sales or tasty little gifts. No matter what excuse you use to make them, be sure to share them!

NATIONAL COCONUT CREAM PIE DAY
National Coconut Cream Pie Day on May 8th celebrates its own slice of deliciousness. This delicious pie is made with a sweet coconut cream filling. Pie lovers know a thick layer of real whipped cream topped with toasted coconut make this pie irresistible.
There are plenty of pie holidays on the National Day Calendar. In fact, every month includes at least one. The last pie holiday we celebrated was National Blueberry Pie Day, kicking off the blueberry season. However, unlike blueberries, coconut trees produce their fruit all year long. And the milk and meat are processed for canning and drying, making it easily accessible for year-round baking.

NATIONAL STUDENT NURSE DAY
National Student Nurse Day takes part in National Nurses Week on May 8th. The day honors student nurses as they pursue a career in medicine.
Student Nurses are at the cutting edge of technology, learning the latest life-saving techniques. At the same time, they are practicing skills in programs that have been built upon medical science. Each year, the demand for nurses grows. Now more than ever, the nursing field needs more people dedicated to the field of medicine. Their drive to care, learn, and specialize in nursing will make a difference in the lives of millions of individuals and the families who love them each year.
A registered nurse (RN) will attend four years of nursing school to attain a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Nurses also branch out into specialties advancing their careers into other areas of medicine.
National Student Nurses Day celebrates these students and their achievements.

NATIONAL RECEPTIONISTS’ DAY
Each year National Receptionists’ Day on the second Wednesday in May gives recognition to receptionists and the valuable contributions they make to the companies where they work.
Receptionists are responsible for providing an excellent first impression to all customers, in person, and on the telephone. Their customer service skills play a vital role in each company’s image.
Not only do receptionists often serve as a company’s first impression either on the phone or in-person but they often maintain invoices, organize office maintenance, and inventory. Since they are the first person most visitors see, they often serve as the first point of security and safety, controlling the flow of who enters and leaves the office.
Many receptionists serve in multiple roles, too. They may be the one source for the company’s human resources assisting with benefits, new hires, and disability claims. While at the same time, they may occasionally serve as an administrative assistant when needed, too.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are more than a million receptionists in the United States.
-
NATIONAL HAVE A COKE DAY
Each year on May 8th, millions of people across the country celebrate National Have a Coke Day. Coca-Cola, often referred to as Coke, is a carbonated soft drink produced by The Coca-Cola Company.
The original filing date for Coke as a registered trademark of the Coca-Cola Company in the United States is March 27, 1944. As of 2013, Coke distributes products in over 200 countries around the world as consumers down more than 1.8 million company beverage servings each day.
While the holiday focuses on the bubbly, carbonated beverage, the drink and its associated memorabilia inspire collectors across generations. From sign art to vintage soda fountain glassware, collectors love to replicate classic flavors with authentic style.

Beautiful!!! Reminds me of our trip to the Orient. Each home or apartment has many flowering plants. This one reminds me of our trip to Victoria Peak before it became a tourist attraction. Each and every bush/plant is taken care of on a daily basis. The flowers forever in bloom. The scent permeates in and around you all blending together for a perfume effect. The arrangements tantalizing. To go one more time would is a dream that may not come true.
-
I love it when you talk about your trips to the Orient. 💕😎
Sometimes when I post pics of New England or the Orient I think of you.

We are up and running so far. Community is still a bit iffy, but I can sign in and post. That is all that matters today.
Hubby was in bed and sound asleep when I arrived yesterday early afternoon. He awoke, shocked of course because I was there early. His dinner was not baby food, but a regular meal. I sometimes think that the cause of his swallowing difficulties may be due to Parkinson’s’. It does run in his family. I arrived around 3pm and left at 10pm.
Feels good to have the computer back.
-
I did purchase “By the Sea” necklace. I wonder if the Phoenix Rising” is for a person she lost due to

Good afternoon to you. We had your bad storms last night, confirmed tornadoes and watches all around.⛈🌪 Most were south and west of me so all is okay in my backyard. Nice day today, more storms tomorrow and getting cooler.
I will probably plant flowers tomorrow or Saturday depending on weather.🌻🌺🌼 That should be it if nothing dies. Deer already attacked some hostas.🦌

Honoring Life Changes
Anything really worth doing in our lives will always have some fear attached to it.
Anything worth doing will always have some fear attached to it. For example, having a baby, getting married, changing careers — all of these life changes can bring up deep fears. It helps to remember that this type of fear is good. It is your way of questioning whether you really want the new life these changes will bring. It is also a potent reminder that releasing and grieving the past is a necessary part of moving into the new.
Fear has a way of throwing us off balance, making us feel uncertain and insecure, but it is not meant to discourage us. Its purpose is to notify us that we are at the edge of our comfort zone, poised in between the old life and a new one. Whenever we face our fear, we overcome an inner obstacle and move into new and life-enhancing territory, both inside and out. The more we learn to respect and even welcome fear, the more we will be able to hear its wisdom — wisdom that will let us know that the time has come to move forward or not. While comfort with fear is a contradiction in terms, we can learn to honor our fear, recognizing its arrival, listening to its intelligence, and respecting it as a harbinger of transformation. Indeed, it informs us that the change we are contemplating is significant, enabling us to approach it with the proper reverence.
You might wish to converse with your fear, plumbing its depths for a greater understanding of the change you are making. You could do this by sitting quietly in meditation and listening or by journaling. Writing down whatever comes up — your worries, your sadness, your excitement, your hopes — is a great way to learn about yourself through the vehicle of fear and to remember that fear almost always comes alongside anything worth doing in your life.

NATIONAL FOSTER CARE DAY
We are raising our voices on the first Tuesday in May to celebrate National Foster Day and encourage everyone to wear blue in support for foster youth in the U.S.
As we kick off Foster Care Month, we are providing the platform to help repair a system that is plagued with shortages nationwide. National Foster Care Day shines a badly needed light on the foster care system. There is a nationwide shortage of foster parents. In addition, stipends provided to foster care parents do no cover the essentials of a growing child.
Every 2 minutes, a new child is placed within the foster care system. Currently, there are over 400,000 children in the system at any given time. Many youth enter the foster care system with little to no belongings. Sadly, many of these kids have also suffered the effects of abuse, poverty, neglect, or even the death of their loved ones. The need for support services, essential items, and foster parents is high. Foster children have an uphill battle with startling statistics to overcome and need the support of our communities across the country.
Foster Care Statistics
Around 250,00 children enter foster care each year.
Only 50% of youth in foster care graduate high school.
Foster children suffer PTSD at more than twice the rate of U.S. war veterans.
One out of five foster children experience homelessness within 1 year of aging out of care.
One-third of young women in foster care are pregnant or parenting by the age of 17 or 18.
More than 70% of inmates incarcerated were in the foster care system at one point.
Stipends do not cover the essentials of a growing child.
When you volunteer to become a court appointed special advocate or foster care parent you receive specialized training. You are not just providing a home for the child, you are a representative providing a safe haven for abused and neglected children.Nationwide, there is a shortage of licensed foster homes. In the U.S. alone, more than 100,000 children waiting for a family to call home. Organizations like Ticket to Dream and Project Blue will help guide you on your journey to become a foster parent. Together, you will make a difference to help foster children heal and grow to their full potential.

NATIONAL TOURISM DAY
Travel enthusiasts focus on travel planning while marketing professionals put their skills into increasing the local economy through tourism. On May 7th the two come together for National Tourism Day.
For those who travel it comes as no surprise when they find themselves receiving mailings and other offers to visit exotic places everywhere. Marketers in the tourism industry are hard at work seeking new ways to draw tourists to the communities.
Travel professionals find themselves in between vacationers planning their next adventure and the destinations that wait. Whether visiting a mountain campground, beachside resort, or big city, travelers are wanted to boost local economies.

NATIONAL TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY
National Teacher Appreciation Day is on the Tuesday during first full week in May as a reminder to show appreciation for teachers everywhere. We are using this National Day to say thank you to all teachers for their time and dedication to educate our children.
National Teacher Appreciation Day is also known as National Teacher Day. The National Education Association describes National Teacher Day “as a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.”
Teachers play a critical role in educating and shaping our children into the future leaders of our country. These kind, patient, hard-working, dedicated, and understanding professionals help mold our children and guide them in positive directions. We entrust our children with teachers during the school year and they play a pivotal role in their lives daily.
No matter where we are in life, a teacher influenced us. They continue to impact our lives every day, too! When we meet new employees with a wealth of skills and abilities, know a teacher helped shaped them. Every new business owner, doctor, engineer, or nurse can name a teacher who inspired them. Every one of us has at least one teacher in mind who encouraged and motivated us during our education. Take the time today to say “Thank You” to the exceptional teachers you know. Take a moment and reflect on the teachers in your life.

NATIONAL ROAST LEG OF LAMB DAY
Each year on May 7th, National RoastLeg of Lamb Day makes a menu suggestion worthy of a celebration. The leg of lamb is a mild and tender cut of meat that, when roasted, is a unique and tasty dish to many. A typical preparation involves covering the leg of lamb with butter, rosemary sprigs pushed inside incisions cut in the leg, and rosemary leaves sprinkled on top. The lamb is then roasted for two hours at 360 degrees.
Lamb is a lean red meat loaded with nutrition. Of course, it’s going to deliver the protein at 25 grams per 3 ounce serving. But it also provides potassium and vitamin B-12. Another good reason to eat lamb is the iron, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids.
Roasted or grilled vegetables pair well with roast leg of lamb. Consider asparagus, roast cauliflower, or tomatoes. Mix up a spring salad or for a touch of acid, a coleslaw. Rice complements lamb, too, as do mashed or baked potatoes. Add your favorite gravy or herb sauce. Finish the meal with a chocolate souffle or lemon tarts.

Good afternoon Oodie. I hope you are able to sign in alright. Oodie there is something
just a bit off on my end. I hope it clears up.How are things going for you today? Oz just had a rough night of storms. We have no
Cable and the power is iffy. So far we do have power but many others have nothing. We had a thunder clap so loud Poppy ran into our room and got under the bed. 💕
I have errands to run and laundry to do. Never a dull moment in OZ just like every place else.
Are you going to the market today? I wish I could go with you. Oodie the fruits and veggies
here are sky high a good watermelon is around 8.99 and that is just in a regular food store. All I want is some fresh fruit. The cats are feed but the other critter keeps coming back.
No worries I keep my eye on Poppy when we are out I am sure there is more than one
hungry critter. I feel for them and I have made a call to animal control.I don’t want the critter hurt just relocate to a safe area.
Hey let me know how things go today. I hope your husband will enjoy the Piano. 😎
-
I am using Kindle for now. There is no sign in anywhere on HSN. If you see one and you click on it it goes into infiniity. As luck would have it , I was checking the computer for viruses. While it was scanning, the phone rang. The head nurse called to tell me that hubby fell out of bed. He was not alone when it happened. The aides were changing the bedding and when he needed to rollover,he went too far. Thankfully, he wasn’t hurt, but as a precaution he was sent to the hospital.he is back in rehab. No pain.
I still need to do one more scan. Though I can use the computer, will not until I am satisfied that everything is cleared. This occurred while in the Arcade. Not prior. I am mentioning this as a Precaution just keep your eyes opened for any interference.
I see there are some new pieces in HD. They are beautiful. I put several into favorites. Loads of compliments on the dragonfly pin and the necklace.
Hope you have a great evening. Stay safe.
-
Could not resist. Purchased “By the Sea” by HD.

today and I am so glad you treated yourself to something we all know you deserve it. 🎈💕I am on Cat Patrol tonight making sure all the cats eat and the other critter stay far far away.
Like I said I don’t mind if he eats what is left over and have fresh water I just don’t want him
to try to hurt Poppy or cats.Oz will have more rain in the morning people are just now getting power back and my
cable came back on around 5:00 p.m. all I wanted to see was the local news for the weather
alerts.Stay safe Oodie and enjoy your evening. ❤️😘
-
Good morning in S. California I hope your planting goes well. The sun and rain will
make it grow beautifully. 🎈😎Poppy is well groomed and looking good. I keep him on a leash and make sure no

Cannot sign in to HSN. Sign in is missing in all areas. Seems to be working ok on Kindle.Contacted CS. Do not know if anyone else is having this problem. I have a feeling. it could be within the new Arcade.
-
Is this the post? Yeah things seems a little wonky I thought it was from the storms
we had last night. I do not Cable and we lost power in the early morning.A light of systems are down in Kanas and our Governor Laura Kelly has issued some
alerts due to the weather.I had no problem signing in but the site looks a wee bit different.
-
Yep. This s the post. I notified CS last night and this morning. It all seemed to start in the Arcade. Kept getting messages from people using SKYPE. They followed me everywhere no matter where I happened to be. I had viruses from the Arcade website many years ago and vowed never to play their games. But that changed when HSN brought the new games in. I thought I was safe. Guess not. Please be careful.. I hope I took care of this problem. I am not holding my breath.

Everything to Know About the 2024 Met Gala: Theme, Hosts, and More
The theme of this year’s Met Gala is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” Celebrities donned looks inspired by the “The Garden of Time” dress code.
Who is hosting the Met Gala 2024?
The 2024 Met Gala hosts are Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth. They follow last year’s star studded group: Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer, Dua Lipa, and Vogue’s Anna Wintour. The latter has run the Met Gala since 1995, shaping it into the much-loved annual celebration of fashion we know today. What is the dress code?
This year’s 2024 Met Gala dress code is “The Garden of Time.” Inspired by J.G. Ballard’s short story of the same title, written in 1962, it can be interpreted in a myriad of ways. Still, we’ll likely see many a floral and botanical looks grace the famed Met Gala red carpet. What is the Met Gala?
The Met Gala is a charity event and fundraiser for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It has traditionally been timed to mark the opening of its annual fashion exhibition. Year after year, the event raises eight-figure sums. What happens at the Met Gala?
In short: It’s a secret. For this reason, guests must abide by the no-phone (and, therefore, no social media) policy. However, you can see exclusive photos from inside the 2023 Met Gala here and catch a glimpse of the table settings, menu, and decor. Kendall Jenner also gave us a behind- the-scenes look at the Met Gala through her camera in 2021. The event usually involves a high-profile performer (like Rihanna or Justin Bieber). And guests always explore the exhibition before sitting down together for dinner.Where is the Met Gala held?
The Met Gala takes place at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on the first Monday in May each year (with the exception of the 2021 event, which took place in September due to COVID-19 restrictions). Guests attending the Met Gala typically stay in hotels nearby, congregating at a few celebrity-favorite spots. Last year, the Mark Hotel was a prime location for celebrity-spotting; see our photos from inside its halls. -

NATIONAL BEVERAGE DAY
National Beverage Day on May 6th encourages us to sit back, relax, and enjoy our favorite beverages.
Beverages come in many forms. And whether you prefer a hot beverage or a cold one, the choice is yours. Serve up a caffeinated drink poured over over ice. Make it carbonated or mix it up as a cocktail or a mocktail as the case may be. Beverages may be freshly squeezed, frozen, blended, or creamy. They can even be sweet, sour, bitter, smooth, or dry.
We drink them to cool off and to warm up. We also drink them to chill out and serve them to add sparkle to a celebration. In fact, every month on the National Day Calendar includes a beverage celebration. Although, some months celebrate more than others. While January is quite busy and raises a glass to milk, green juice, and the bloody Mary, February only celebrates Kahlua. The busiest beverage month on the calendar (so far) is July. It even hails the Dive Bars we like to frequent. Though, May doesn’t shy away from beverage celebrations, either. We just celebrated lemonade and America’s favorite beverage, orange juice, and will celebrate several more in May, too!

NATIONAL NURSES DAY
NationalNurses Day is observed annually on May 6th. On this day, we raise awareness of all nurse contributions and commitments and acknowledge the vital role nurses play in society. This day is also the first day of National Nurses Week and is sometimes known as National RN Recognition Day.
National Nurses Week begins May 6th and ends on May 12th, which is the birthday of Florence Nightingale (May 12, 1820 – August 13, 1910). Florence Nightingale was a celebrated English, social reformer, statistician, and thefounder of modern nursing. She became well-known while taking care of the wounded soldiers during the Crimean War. Nightingale was dubbed “The Lady with the Lamp” because of her habit of making rounds at night.

MELANOMA MONDAY
Melanoma Monday is a part of an awareness campaign during National Melanoma Month . Each year on the first Monday in May, we are raising awareness about skin cancer in hopes of reducing melanoma diagnosis.
Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. On Melanoma Monday we are spreading the word about skin health, sun safety, tanning prevention, and skin cancer screenings. While melanoma and other skin cancers are not 100% preventable, there are ways to reduce your risk. We are on a mission to provide resources and information to bring awareness to melanoma, and hopefully reduce the number of melanoma diagnosis.
Tips to Reduce Skin Cancer Risks
Wear sunscreen to protect yourself from harmful UV rays and remember to reapply sunscreen throughout the day.
Cover up by wearing a broad-brimmed hat, long sleeves, and pants when planning to be in the sun for an extended period of time.
Finding shade under trees, umbrellas, and awnings provides excellent sun protection on warm sunny days.
Protecting your skin against UV rays on a cloudy days is important, too. Lack of sun does not mean lack of UV rays.
Avoid tanning beds. UV light in tanning beds puts you at a higher risk for melanoma.
Check your skin regularly for abnormal moles or other skin abnormalities. If you notice changes, see your doctor to have it checked.
As of 2023, the American Cancer Society estimates almost 98,000 people will receive a new diagnosis for melanoma. Unfortunately, around 8,000 people are expected to die from the disease. Thankfully, mortality rates have declined over the past decade. Advancements in treatment and technology both attribute to the success rate of catching and treating melanoma.Prevention
Anyone is at risk of getting melanoma. However, the disease seems to be more common in Caucasians versus Blacks. One out of 38 Caucasians will be diagnosed with melanoma in their lifetime, which is significantly higher than 1 out of 1,000 Blacks. Specific risk factors, such as fair skin tone, freckles, and light hair all contribute to a melanoma skin cancer diagnosis.
You may have a higher risk of melanoma if you have a parent, sibling, or child who has already had melanoma. Knowing your family medical history is an important step in prevention. Family history helps your doctor look for signs of possible melanoma that you may miss. The best prevention is regular skin exams with your doctor and performing monthly exams on your own.
Age also increases the risk of melanoma. On average, people 65 and over are diagnosed with melanoma more often. However, melanoma is commonly found in people younger than 30, especially in women.

NATIONAL CREPE SUZETTE DAY
May 6th honors a unique and delicious dessert on National Crepe Suzette Day!
While there are slightly different versions of crepes Suzette, the dish is quite distinct from most other crepe dishes. The recipe first appeared in the 19th century in Paris courtesy of Chef Henri Charpentier. According to the chef’s memoir, he accidentally ruined a sauce for the crepes he was serving Prince Edward of Wales (the would-be King Edward VII) and his guests. With no time to recover, he tasted the burned sauce and discovered the flavors blended deliciously. When he served the dish, Charpentier named it Crepes Princesse. However, when the prince gently protested, Charpentier changed the name to Suzette in honor of the one female guest at the table.
Charpentier would later come to the United States and serve as John D. Rockefeller’s chef. However, before that, Charpentier was world renown and learned under Auguste Escoffier (a chef known for other celebrated dishes).
The French dessert consists of a crepe with a beurre Suzette sauce. To make the sauce, caramelized sugar and butter, orange juice and zest, and orange liqueur. Once set afire, the alcohol evaporates quickly, resulting in a thick caramelized sauce. Restaurants often prepare Crepes Suzettes at the table of the guests.

Good morning in sunny Florida and I hope this post find you doing well. 😎🎈
Miss ya please be well. -
Good morning on the Gulf Coast of Florida. I guess I won the fight last night with the
Racoon. I went back out and he ran like the wind. 😎The Racoon can have what the cats do not eat I just don’t want him messing with Poppy.
Oodie OZ is raining and I am fine with that. 💕
Let me know how your day goes.
I hope your husband is having a good day.

Guess the racoon was no match for gun swinging mama. If you ever want to feed the raccoon try fruit such as grapes. I do not think the kitties would enjoy it. But you are right, best to feed the kitties first.
I am taking it easy today. I will be going to the mailroom in a few minutes and take care of any bills. Decided to leave tomorrow late morning to have some keys made and then on to the Dollar and a Quarter store and Lowes. I stopped at Sam’s Club last Friday for gas. The pump stopped at $10, so will need to fill up at Costco. This is the second time Sam’s Club did this to me. Actually, Costco is more expensive at a penny more. I surmise Sam’s is rationing.
I will be bringing the Yamaha and stand tomorrow. Hubby is looking forward to playing again. Hope to be there in time for lunch .
By the way, the Peroxide along with a tablespoon of Baking Soda works wonders for drains. It does take time, so have patience. You actually do not need a cup of Baking Soda.
Have a great evening and then some. Mid week doesn’t sound good. Well, the heat is on in Florida along with the humidity. We may get some rain during the week but I’m not holding my breath.

The Met Gala fashion looks lovely all around!
Moved some plants around today, finished digging up the 3 Bougainvilla and replaced them with some other plants that needed to go into the ground from pots. Bought a 2nd Hydrangea – lets hope it lives. -

Good afternoon to the ragin’ cagin’ raccoon lady!😲 Poppy must have said “may the force be with you” and mama went to war.⚔ I saw my two groundhogs today running across the yard so Wilma and Wally are out of the hole for the season.
Cloudy but comfortable day. Did some running around this morning and just finished baking a cake to use up some icing.🍰 Going to try to catch some of the Met Gala in between hockey and Master Chef. I am a regular cook, not a gourmet chef, and can’t believe those young kids use ingredients I can’t even pronounce. They are amazing!👨👧
Have a nice evening. Tell Poppy to stay a few steps behind his suit of armor.🛡 Hugs from me and Jake.🤗💖
