Diane Gilman is a fashion designer who became famous for dressing America’s rock stars in the 1960s.
She later became a television personality, frequently featuring on HSN (Home Shopping Network), where she earned the nickname the ‘Jean Queen.’ She was also consistently one of HSN’s top-selling fashion designers.

Diane Gilman was born in 1945 & grew up in Los Angeles. As an eight-year-old, Gilman owned a secret sewing machine, which she hid under her bed, sewing her first dresses secretly at night!
She was married but lost her husband after a lengthy battle against cancer. She does seem to have a boyfriend, as in a 2013 interview, she had mentioned that she was a knockout, amazing love affair in her 60s.
Currently, Diana lives in New York in a plush apartment that overlooks Central Park.

Gilman studied at the University of California, during which she established her first fashion store called I’m a Hog for You Baby!

The store was located on Melrose Avenue and was an immediate success & drew attention of young Hollywood stars such as Anne Margaret and Cher.

A quintessential Southern California girl, Diane spent her teenage and early twenties as a hippie-local artist.
After university, Diana moved to San Francisco, where she began designing custom-made jeans for celebrities such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and more.
She began designing jeans for celebrities after realizing her neighbors were the rock’n’roll band Jefferson Airplane. The fact that stylists did not exist at that moment made this possible, leading the stars to wear her jeans on stage.
In the 80s, she moved to New York, starting her brand Cabal, which was picked up and produced by Bloomingdales.
Gilman began working on HSN in 1994, celebrating her 20th anniversary on the network in 2014.

The book is especially addressed to aging women.

Fun Facts and Trivia :

Diana drew her first outfit as a two-year-old child, dressing her stick figure in a polka dot dress. It then became a lifelong dream to move to New York and become a fashion designer.
Her fashion brand was the first to make clothes in ‘washable silk,’ earning her global recognition. She is also responsible for fabric developments in denim, making them stretchy, which allows for both close fits and comfort simultaneously. Her fashion brand and fabric development was made with the baby boomers generation in mind.
Besides building a successful lifelong career in fashion, Gilman has also spent a lot of time giving back to charity, working with organizations such as UNICEF, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and South Nassau Communities Hospital.
One of her first designs for Bloomingdale’s was a satin jacket that glowed in the dark!
A few years back, she had a relationship with a man 14 years her junior, who she says ripped off her dress on their first date!
Health Update :

Diane Gilman Illness / Sick : In 2018, Gilman was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a stage 3 tumor in her left breast with lymph node involvement and a stage 2 in the right breast.
She announced it on her Facebook, in a video that more than 100,000 women watched.
Breast surgeon, Dr. Elisa Port treated Diane at the Dubin Breast Center in New York. She had to take 20 sessions of chemotherapy, but fortunately, came out cancer-free at the age of 73!
During the chemotherapy session, Diane lost her signature auburn red hair. After one year, her hair started growing and was luminescent white.
