Having a talisman imbued with your intention is a tool you can use to assist you in your journey.

For millennia, mankind has found peace and solace in objects of significance. When cleansed and consecrated through ritual, such objects — be they gems, amulets, herbs, or written words — become talismans. A talisman is any item imbued with a specific power by its bearer to serve a specific intention. Ancient Egyptians used massive stone tablets as healing talismans, while the Greeks and Romans used lead talismans to communicate with the spirit realm. Traditionally, a talisman anchors energy in the physical plane. That energy may be protective in nature or may be intended to draw abundance, wealth, or a wide variety of blessings to its user. Today, a talisman may be made of wood, metal, paper, stone, or natural elements, such as plants. Often, talismans are small enough to be easily worn or carried, and they may be marked with words or symbols that the talisman’s owner deems meaningful.

Creating and owning a talisman can reassure you and also serve to aid you in attracting what you want in life. You may use your talisman to help you attain health, security, or good luck. Or you may simply want to carry an object with you that will remind you of your search for soulful tranquility. In order to create a talisman, you must first determine its physical properties. This can be as innocuous as a strip of paper bearing the word “love” and carried in a wooden box or cloth sack. You may prefer a more visible talisman, such as a metal amulet or a gemstone worn as jewelry. Before your object becomes a talisman, however, it must be charged. This can be done by cleansing the object — with water or with incense — and holding a ritual of your own making. Or you can leave the object in moonlight or sunlight, or bury it in the earth for a time. To preserve its effectiveness, talismans should be reconsecrated regularly.

Almost any object can be transformed into a talisman of protection, good fortune, health, love, or serenity. It may be strung on a cord and hung around the neck, worn on a belt, or carried in a purse or pocket. But the physical properties of the talisman are not as important as the intention of its bearer. Xango the reason Fall is my favorite season it reminds me of our children it was not so long
ago we would go trick or treating and the area we live in is great for that. We have seen
Halloween parties and fireplaces on and all the windows open in the beautiful homes.
We were just having fun both my husband and I always took our kids in costumes for
trick or treating we knew most of the people and met a few along the way it was true Oz
style. The weather was always perfect. 😘😎

Hubby is driving to work in Orlando, he will be finishing up this week there.
Then after the coming holiday next week he will be driving to Tampa.
He is able to stay a full day at work now, his energy is back.

I am a lot better from the fall. My arm is better, no longer hurts. Only thing left is a huge bruise on my thigh.

The devastation in Fort Myers, Sanibel Island and the surrounding areas are just unbelievable. The enormous damage a category 4 hurricane does is horrible.

I just finished sweeping and washing half of our carport and the steps leading to the house. The railing has been repaired by a neighbor. Not sure if a new one would suit us better. Will wait for the insurance adjustor to give us an idea. And speaking of the adjustor, had a phone call this afternoon from the insurance company. We now have a claim number. He mentioned that the adjustor will be calling in a few days. I now can contact a roofing company to cover up the empty areas on the roof. Two small areas will need a tarp. No work can be started until the adjustor takes pictures and then correlates his with mine. He also mentioned that the rug in our den will need to come up, at least where it got rained on. I will go through my list on that one. Tomorrow I will contact the roofers. He also asked that the roofers should take pictures from above. We need to know what is left. I started a notebook with the info needed and what I have to do. I was totally surprised that our home is covered by hurricanes. Most insurance companies here do not cover tornadoes, wind, hurricanes, etc.. Many have left, leaving their customers in the dark as where to go next. We may be in the same boat because of this disaster.

I have a hair appointment for Friday. A few hours all to myself. Tonight is Yom Kippur. Many are still without electricity. I still cannot use the cell. Landline is working fine.

The devastation is awful. I went on line last night to check The Broadway Palms. It’s a dinner theater and the shows they put on are fabulous. Though the actors are not well known the productions and cast are not amateurish. Anyway, they are fine and will be donating food and water on a daily basis to people who are staying even without power. The huge problem is because no one knew exactly where this storm would land. It kept changing direction. I think my first post after the storm mentioned that. I also wrote that the storm surge would not be because the hurricane had gone further north. But the storm surge did occur and was devastating. Ft. Myers was a beautiful city with so much to do and see. The National Seashore was hit hard also. I do not think there was one home that was left untouched. The roads leading to the beaches are no longer passable. It will take many many years to rebuild and to bring that area to life.

We did eat out last night and it was fun just to be elsewhere. We have not shopped for anything, though the frig is bare. Neither of us are in the mood to go anywhere. And to think Aldi’s is right around the corner. We will be taking one step at a time to get through the events. To think that last week, at this time, we were moving things around and to find out a week later that we made the right choices.

While growing up I always made note of what my parents did for their family. My mom was the third youngest of 7 children. The oldest hosted my grandparents events and helped in the kitchen. My mom would go every Sunday and grab me by the hand so not to be alone. Later I started regretting it since there was always papers due in school the next day or a quiz that I needed to study for. But, it was a rule and so I went, reluctantly.

As my grandparents grew older, the sisters and one brother would take turns during the week to help clean, prepare meals and god forbid to do the dishes. That was grandpa’s job and he made it known under all and any circumstances. When it came to holidays, my parents always made sure that those who were now single would always be welcomed at our home no matter when. Being the only child I knew that someday I would step in when needed. It was difficult for me while working a full time job and being 60 miles away. Hubby took over to take her to hair appointments and shopping. I would arrive on a Friday around dinner time. Either I would make a meal or we would go out. Mom never asked for much because she didn’t want to interfere in my life. However, I would stay through some weekends and prepare meals for the week. It was my little adventure in cooking. Now, my hubby had two sisters. One lived in NY and the other was 15 minutes away. Neither one cared for their mom. The excuse was they had children. My SIL, who lived 15 minutes away called once in a blue moon. While my hubby was there two or three times per day 7 days per wk. Hubby’s mom was blind, diabetic and had dementia. When things became too tough for him and we could no longer keep the help is when she went to a nursing home. She was now 5 minutes from my SIL who visited her once. This is why when I see families working together I make a comment. It is so nice to see mother and their children together. Your mom is alive today and enjoying the days because of you two. She is loved unconditionally by her kids and that love carries her through any illness and also all things lovely. Last Friday I thought of you with your Mom. I knew it was “Mom Friday.” The one day your mom looks forward to. Hairdresser, food shopping and maybe a meal out. This is fun for her and I surmise it’s something she looks forward to week after week. How fortunate she is to have you two. I just wish more children would take the time to dote on their parents. Life is too short and being together makes such wonderful, fond memories. When they go, it’s too late to say “I love you.” You and your sister are saying this everyday in the thoughtful acts you do.

The Places We Go

Often it takes something major to wake us up, as we struggle to maintain an illusion of control.

In life, most of us want what we have envisioned for ourselves. We have plans and visions, some of them divinely inspired, that we want to see through to completion. We want to be happy, successful, and healthy, all of which are perfectly natural and perfectly human. So when life takes us to places we don’t consciously want to go, we can feel as if something has gone wrong or we must have made a mistake somewhere along the line. But in reality, this is just life’s way of taking us somewhere we need to go for reasons that are deeper than our own understanding. These hard knocks and trials are designed to shed light on our unconscious workings and deepen our life experience.

Often it takes something major to wake us up, to shake us loose from ego’s grip as it struggles to maintain the illusion that it is actually in control. It is loss of control more than anything else that humbles us and enables us to see the big picture. That lack of control reminds us that the key to the universe lies in what we do not know, and that what we do know is a small fraction of the great mystery in which we live. This awareness softens and lightens us, as it helps us release our resistance to what is. Another gift gleaned from going to these seemingly undesirable places is that, in our response to difficulty, we can see all the patterns and unresolved emotional baggage that stand in the way of our unconditional joy. Joy exists within us whether things go our way or not. And when we don’t feel joy, we can still trust that we can find it if we are willing to surrender to the situation and move through it.

We can take our inspiration from any fairy tale that finds its central character lost in a dark wood, frightened and alone. We know that the journey through the wood provides its own kind of beauty and richness. On the other side, we will emerge transformed, lighter and brighter, braver, and more confident for having been through that darkness. Amen! ✨✨

This is very close to home for me. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2019
during a routine 3D Mammogram little did I know Covid-19 was around the corner.

I did have surgery and radiation treatment for four weeks and it was during the lockdown
for covid-19 here in Kansas. I had to walk into the hospital every day for four weeks.
I was alone no one could come and sit with me. I have to say that time was one of the
loneliness times I have ever experience. My appointments were always early morning
and since we were in lockdown the highways were like a ghost town.

I am doing great now I only take a hormone blocker and I see my Oncologist every
six months and I have the mammograms as well. I am in third year.

Ladies I will cover this subject as best I can during the month of October please
get your annual Mammogram catch any cancer early as possible.

Katie Couric was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer very interesting journey for her.

Katie Couric has shared an update on the treatment she is receiving following a breast cancer diagnosis over the summer.

The former “Today” host, who was diagnosed in June, underwent surgery in July and began radiation Sept. 7. She has completed 15 days of radiation, she said during an appearance on NBC on Monday.

“I’m feeling great. I’m just getting over a cold … but I’m feeling just fine. I finished radiation last week,” she said. “They said it made you tired, I was actually not too tired from it. I had a lumpectomy in July.”

She added, “I just feel super lucky that it was diagnosed when it was. That I went even though I was late, that I went when I did.”

Couric went for a breast exam in the summer and was told she needed a biopsy.

“I was like, ‘Uh-oh, what does that mean,’ and she said, ‘I think there’s something we really need to biopsy and I want to do it today.’ So I thought, ‘Oh, my God! You must be kidding me.’”

She was stunned by the news, she said.

“I found out the next day, she called me, I was pretty stunned. I think those words, ‘It’s cancerous or you have cancer’ do stop you in your tracks,” she said.

“But she told me it was treatable, we needed to have a plan. So I went from feeling shocked to not that shocked given my family’s history, to relieved because my exposure to cancer with Jay [her late husband] and Emily [her late sister] and my mother-in-law … they were all advanced and the prognosis was really tough, so I felt so grateful, honestly,” she said.

Couric lost her first husband, Jay Monahan, to colon cancer in 1998 when he was 42. She waited a few days to process her own diagnosis before telling her daughters Carrie and Ellie.

“I waited a few days so I could process it and really understand what we’re dealing with. And I FaceTimed each of them,” she said. “I was very reassuring, but I saw in their faces. It’s just hard to deliver that news no matter how you do it.”

She encouraged women to schedule a mammogram.

I read about your journey with breast cancer. I am sorry you had to walk into that hospital by yourself because of Covid-19. Those are the times our Guardian Angel is with us and guiding us.
I too don’t want to see another hurricane, but living in Florida that is quite impossible.
The weather here is starting to get a bit cooler, that is, not so much humidity.
But I am not looking forward to the cold days that comes with Winter, even here in Florida.

Thank you for your sweet post. Yeah, it was really hard during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Like I said the streets were like a Ghost Town. I endured and I survived.

Xango I still have the girls and I still wear Victoria Secrets Bras so I was very lucky.
In a few weeks I have to see the Oncologist and have another 3 D Mammogram.

Xango that day they told me I had cancer I just went numb I could not believe it.
I did not tell my Dad because he was fighting for life. No worries I did fess up to
my father and he was shocked. I told Dad hey I am alright. A year later my father
passed and I am so glad I did tell him.

My entire family has been a great with supporting me through this ordeal. 💕🌹✨
I would have my treatments in the Hospital and come back and finished this Thread.

The all were fantastic in keeping me sane. Every time I get that Mammogram I have
to hold my breath and pray I do thank my angels for looking over me. 🌹💕✨

My Catholic Faith is pretty strong. This is part of reason I enjoy doing this thread.

The things all have talked about and how we try to support each other. 🌹✨

I left a note to everyone in the last Trivia post. Sanibel did a great job.

The one thing I noticed with this hurricane is that you lose the time frame. The day is extremely long especially when you have no electricity and the computer is down and unplugged.

I contacted our insurance company this morning and I should hear from someone within a week. I was told not to contact anyone until the adjustor is here and determines what else may be needed. The adjustor will also take pictures. His/hers will be outside and indoors. The den is no longer safe. Water must have formed between the siding and the wood so when you touch the wall you can literally feel movement. I know the cable and Tv were soaked, so we will need a replacement. Thankfully, the sales will be starting soon. I cannot contact Spectrum until everything is completed and they can enter here without a problem. The new rugs are still rolled in the plastic and they were in an area that remained dry. I cannot wait until they can be unraveled and placed on the lanai floor. The furniture on the lanai is unscathed. Even the glass
table remained OK. How the settee made it to the center of the lanai is still a question when it was against the wall. The North to South wind should have kept it in place. I uncovered the wooden furniture and they are good. These were in the den and were completed drenched on all sides. Even the chairs were wet along with the fabric seats. These are in good shape as well. No stains. So many tiny miracles brings a smile to one’s face. I just completed looking at the devastation in Ft. Myers. That was one of the areas I really wanted to move to and almost stayed prior to the hurricane. That was when all eyes were on Tampa just days prior. The last bit of news was that the storm had changed direction and there would be no storm surge. Those were the famous last words. We now know differently. And speaking of Tampa, so glad to hear that Merced made it through safely. But, I wonder how the other hosts made out with this storm. Many lived near the Gulf. Hope all are OK. Hubby and I dodged a bullet. We will always thankful for the prayers and that the powers above answered. Well, the Farmer’s Market opened this afternoon. We are literally out of fresh vegetables and fruit. Thank goodness for Costco. They kept us well fed for the time we were without electricity. So important to stock up prior to a storm. And, xango’s idea of putting bottled water in the freezer was a great idea. I actually made ice days in advance. The frig stayed cool and kept the food in the freezer solid. Nothing had to be thrown. Well, now to get ready to go out and have a little bit of fun.

I saw in Ft. Myers on one of the channels covering the storm where a man went into
the waters to rescue his elder mother I mean she had her entire home under water and it
was up to her chin. I know seeing her son rescue her will never be forgotten by him or
his mother. 🌹 God Bless all in Florida impacted by this storm.

I hope you and hubby got out if only for a little while and were able to got some fresh fruit and
veggies and had a good meal.

Thanks for your thoughts and your concerns. We have had hurricanes in the Northeast, but nothing like what we visualized or felt here in Florida. I am cetain that most hotels had problems as well. You didn’t need to be in a flood zone to see the fast moving waters. Thankfully, we are both OK. Will start doing housework tomorrow and will get in touch with FEMA tomorrow to see where they will be located. Took pictures from inside the house. Unfortunately, the insurance in Florida no longer covers us for wind from hurricanes or tornadoes. We have names of some roofing companies and will be making phone calls tomorrow. Again, everyone’s prayers were very helpful. Someone up there was listening.

I was lucky I didn’t break my left hip when I fell. I believe my Guardian Angel must of broken my fall thus stopping me from having any any serious problems.
My thigh is black and blue and sore. My left arm is better, just can’t raise all the way up yet. The muscles still needs to recuperate.

I am glad I couldn’t placed a large order of groceries. I tried but Kroger and Walmart didn’t have available days before the Hurrican, neither did Instacart. We would have thrown away lots of food. As it turned out, there wasn’t much to throw away and the refrigerator stayed pretty cool. We had packed the refrigerator with lots of frozen bottles of water.

Hi we are fine. Finally have electricity which came on last night. And just a few minutes Ok the wifi ret urned with TV, landline, etc. etc. I wrote to Sheba. When you get a chance please read . Both of us are OK. We had a hotel reservation for Sarasota beginning Tuesday afternoon through Friday. At 9:30 am the hotel phoned that we were being cancelled because they were being evacuated. The hotel was not in a flood zone. From what that person told me, was that most hotels were receiving the same message. Ten minutes later we had a visual doctor’s appointment with a neurologist. By the time we got through (an hour and a half later), I tried various hotels in Sarasota, Orlando and beyond for a reservation. Everything was booked. There were a few in St. Augustine and DeSoto, but, too far to travel. We decided to bunker down at home and as it turned out the wisest decision.

Tuesday was OK. Watched the news on and off and also decided to see what was in the frig. I moved things around so it would be easy to grab when needed and to keep the frig cold or cool. Checked the pantry and there were tons of can goods and even some munchies. Most schools were closed on Tuesday and most retail closed between 4 pm and 6 pm that evening. That also included the groceries and of course our Farmers Market. Luckily we had been to Costco and picked up some ready to go items that just needed refrigeration and no cooking.
We had no problems Tuesday night.

Wednesday, I was up at 7:30 am. It was quiet. Guess it was the lull before the storm. I checked outside to make sure the car van was locked and walked around for loose anything. Seeing none went back in and made a small breakfast. By 9 am the power was gone. This included our Cells, landline, TV, hot water, etc.. Thank goodness I had downloaded a couple of books and jigsaw puzzles. At that point I just prayed.

There was only a light wind Wednesday morning. We both felt that Florida Light and Power had cut everything to prevent electrocution. I also decided that this was a good time to disconnect all appliances and lights and other things as well. We left the stove, microwave and frig in place. Turned the A/C off. Wednesday afternoon the wind picked up. At this point it was going from East to West which meant we would be OK. Later it went from East to West. Around 7 pm the wind picked up and so did the rain. Torrents of rain. I looked outside from our den window and noticed that the wind was from North to South. I watched the water in the lake to determine the route. I must have fallen asleep when hubby awakened me to check the window in the kitchen. The roof over the lanai was completely gone. Then I followed him into the den where he pointed to the den ceiling. I now had an opened skylight. The floor was drenched in rain water. I had decided to do some laundry the day prior and remembered that I had some bath towels in the mix. This room had some big pieces of furniture and I wiped everything down and covered the tops the best I could. I also remembered when I purchased the furniture that the sales staff would say never to use Pledge. n this case I am glad I didn’t listen because the rain did not penetrate the wood. There would tons of bubbles and so easy to wipe clean and cover. I moved what we could to another location and made a pathway to the kitchen and our bedroom. The den will need to be redone. I have a couple of names and will make the calls tomorrow. Winds were clocked over 100 mph and then some. I knew before hand that there was a possibility that it would land either in Porta Gorda or further South. By car they are about an hour and a half south. I thought this storm would be a category 1 when it reached us. But it wasn’t. I think it was a 4 and then became a 3. I have never seen wind like this and the rain never let up. It was relentless.

Thursday the rain was gone but we still had wind. Gusts were 50 mph. It was heading towards Georgia. Oh how I wanted to tell Sheba, but there was no wifi or internet connection. So I just prayed that her kids would be OK. I heard later that it was quite a storm and there were floods everywhere. Flooding is still going on where we are. Traffic lights are not working and though at the 4-way we should treat it like a stop sign, not everyone is obeying and thus accidents.

Yesterday our neighbor checked on us and thankfully she and her two cute dogs are fine. I decided to take some pictures using Kindle. Going into the house the railing broke free and I fell backwards hitting my head against the screen door leading to the lanai. I am OK. Nothing broken. But I feared for hubby and his knee going up and down with nothing to hang on to. That has been repaired by our neighbor. The electrical came on around 9:30 pm Saturday. Phone service and everything else came on around 4 pm today. I was able to receive messages in my e-mail, but unable to reply. When I had not replied, a cousin in Boston must have either gone on line or heard the news that all power was knocked out. I’m not sure if our cell is working because the satellites were sent flying along with the poles. But, to me, this is just a minor thing. We are OK and that is most important. Men are expected back tomorrow to finish the landscaping. That’s it for now. Need to tell family we are OK.

about the people some have been with me near death and many deaths in my family. I am
not a fake person I don’t play games with people I have eight years creating and developing
this thread and it still stands. I hope that means something Oodie I am just typing out loud
because I am relieved everyone is alright. 💕✨

This was a beast. Nothing like what we see and feel in New England. This storm was terrifying. Thankfully, we were safe. We can repair the roof and anything else, but our lives like everyone mentions, cannot be replaced. Yes, we have a lot to be thankful for. Thank you for your prayers. Evidently they were heard and I thank whomever is up there for watching over us. The storm was relentless. I am thankful we were home and able to do damage control. Will start making the necessary phone calls tomorrow. Yes, we could have gone to a shelter. But with the Covid cases in Florida, and with most not wearing a mask, decided that being home was probably the safest place to be. As it turned out, it was.

On Friday I thought of you and Mom Friday. At least you probably had some nice, cool weather. Also thought about your sister and in a few weeks she will be back. Oh, she should check the cruise that she is taking with your mom. There could be a better rate since the Covid is still acting up in Florida and cruise lines are again dealing with cancellations. Enjoy the game tonight and have a great day tomorrow.

Hello and how are you doing this Sunday afternoon?
After the monster storm we are having some beautiful days.
It’s certainly was a monster, and we are very lucky. My husband said to me ” we are never living on the coast or near water here in Florida”. 😬 Well we came down with the US Navy back in 1988. And our first house here in Florida we had built was ten minutes from Jacksonville Beach☺️😆. And we were lucky there, no hurricane came our way while we lived there.
In 1993 we moved to Orlando, and in 2004 Florida was hit with five hurricanes. we went through 4 in Orlando, Charlie that one I was all by myself. Charlie did a lot of damage and went up I-95 all the way to Jacksonville causing damage. We lost power for a week with Charlie.
Then there was Frances, Ivan and Jeanne. For two of the hurricanes friends came and stayed with us because they lived in Merritt Island and the area needed to be evacuated.
I forget which hurricane stayed around dumping water and wind all four days. It was an eternity. Surprisingly we didn’t lose power, we had water come in from the window in one of the spare bedrooms. Soaked the entire bedroom drywall, bed, curtains and carpet all had to be replaced. That’s the most damage we had from a hurricane.
