    @sheba2011

    I agree with you. This orthopedist had a note from the rehab and took their advice. He only was with my husband for 10 minutes. Left but said he would be back. Left us stranded. Another nurse came in and asked why we were still there. Explained the situation and left. I had asked if some additional therapy for leg movements could be given. At first he said no then said we could try. He never asked for it on the sign off sheet. Nor did he put in a muscle relaxer from the pharmacy.I was told to give his assistant a phone call Monday. Not sure if I will. Meanwhile I am with hubby. He is moving all over the place in bed. I brought him a meal, but he enjoyed the dinner here.will update.

    @sheba2011

    I am looking at low impact ideas we can try. I mentioned the bike pedals last night and found a couple that may be OK. However, I cannot bring them into the rehab. Only a doctor’s OK will do. I will be talking to some people today if they are working, if not, will head out Monday to get some answers. I do think we need a second and maybe a third opinion and then a decision can be made. So, I am working on that as well. These orthopedics may have been good at one time, but, in all honesty I am not happy with this one. We did have a good one, however, he transferred to a hospital that does not have the cleanest reputation. I have a funny feeling it was not his decision to make. As I said yesterday, there is one I am looking at off Cape which means we will be most likely be in Boston for any surgery if that is possible. This particular physician does not like to operate, but rather use other means to enable a person to stand and walk. Unfortunately, if hubby cannot get in and out of a vehicle on his own, traveling North will not be feasible. I am going with the nurses and aides at the Rehab. They think therapy is the way to go to get the surrounding muscles to work better. He is almost ready to stand and we do have a walker and wheelchair. I may redo the bathroom shower and make it so it is more of a walk in. I will be looking at th e shower footings though I think ours may do. I will be looking at other real estate in Florida to see if we can find something in our price range without stairs. Maybe something with an indoor pool. I will be contacting the Y during the week to see if that would be helpful for hubby. The rehab may be able to get him there for an appointment. Unfortunately, I know how nursing/convalescent homes work and as you can tell I am not at all thrilled. Hubby will lose his mind there and his hope. After dealing with the surgery in November I can see they are pulling at every straw possible to keep him there. The unfortunate part is that the physicians have no say in the matter and neither do the attorneys. So, I am on my own and will do whatever I can to bring him home. I had a feeling this would happen. Now to see what will be given the greatest prioirty.

    @sheba2011

    TACI thanks for your concern and opinion. For both of you, hubby is able to move the left leg and is working alone in trying to get the muscles workable. My concern is that the Physical Therapist in Rehab may have written a dissertation stating that my husband had plateaued and at the same time stated he had fallen. Funny, I was not informed of this fall. The orthopedist also said that the knee is beyond repair due to the number of falls hubby had at home. There is an orthopedist off Cape Cod who has been getting tremendous reviews. I am looking for a second opinion. The nurses and aides at the Rehab cannot believe what the physician told us. Hubby has made great strides in the last few weeks and wants home so bad he can taste it. We are not giving up and we will continue to fight this. By the way, he is really practicing lifting each leg up and trying to work through the pain. I am giving him the weekend to rest and starting Monday we will begin the workout. And, if I find him confined to bed there will be you know what to pay. There is also some equipment that I am looking at that could be helpful. He also needs to be able to get in and out of a vehicle so we can head North at some point. He is moving his legs more and more. I am also thinking of a stationary bike pedals that will strengthen the muscles more. This is something we can both use while watching a movie or a program on TV. There are so many alternatives that are useful. I have confidence that this too shall pass and will teach both of us what perseverance can do. Prior to the bladder surgery on November 27th, hubby was not able to move his legs. Today, he is trying and proving everyone wrong. Prior to the surgery, the head nurse/unit manager asked me to cancel because the catheter had been in too long. I almost did and told hubby about that conversation. He said if he didn’t do the surgery he would never know if it would have worked. As it turned out that nurse was wet behind the noodle. Well, time for me to call it a day. Heidi will be on in a few hours and I could really use her sense of humor. Oh, yes, Sheba, I do carry the masks with me just in case and I do mask up in crowded situations .

    This is not Over by any means. I am a fighter and not a quitter. This week chubby has made great strides. I am positive he will get to where he wants and needs to be. This physician I feel was listening to the Physical Therapy people who hubby felt were not that knowledgeable. There are other alternatives and the surgery as a last resort. Will continue to update.

    No trivia tonight

    To say I am exhausted is an understatement. It took over an hour and ten minutes to go 10 miles 10 minutes was just waiting for two vehicles to make a left turn. The rest was a parking lot. Hubby was in the office by the time I arrived. Xrays were taken of both knees. Met with the orthopedist a half hour later. Not good news. He will not operate. Said hubby should be in a convalescent home or assisted living. His mind is ok. Still didn’t know the day.. Knew the year. Also stated he would never walk or stand again. HE felt PT would not help. However, I insisted we try. I will be contacting his assistant on pt.. It was almost the same thing the rehab PT were saying.like he read their report. Will be looking for a second opinion. I still feel if the muscles were stronger he may have a good chance to stand and walk. I am trying to give him hope and more confidence.

    @shoelady60

    Prayers do help and thank you for those thoughts. I am getting ready to leave and hopefully, the orthopedist will be able to do the reconstructive surgery. This surgery was postponed three times because hubby forgot which knee needed to be done and wha t the date was. At that time he was in a stupor and later found it was due to one of his meds. Anyway, he came through the bladder surgery in better shape and when I mentioned to the urologist about the knee reconstruction being postponed because of “dementia” he was shocked. Well, it wasn’t really about the surgery, but rather the anesthesia is different. The doctor took a double take on that one. He mentioned that the same anesthesia would be used on the knee. Go figure……

    When it rains it pours. Your poor son. Even though he may have a mild case, he will still need to move around and exercise. I do not think there are any meds that would be affective, however, vitamins are helpful especially the Immune ones. I surmise we need to start masking up again when we are out and about. Again, thanks for reaching out on our appointment. I will post when I can.

    Yep, that’s the Pickle pin. I cannot stop smiling and it will look nice on my summer hat with the beachy theme.

    I arrived later than usual to see hubby. Just could not get started. But, I’m glad I was there. The sight was something to behold. When I arrived the first thing I saw was the empty wheelchair. I thought for sure something was amiss and in a sense it was. I thought for sure he would be sound asleep in bed. But, the second thing I noticed there were no feet at the foot of the bed. Next came the surprise. For the first time he was dressed and had shoes on and was sitting at the edge of the bed. I could not believe it. I actually had to look two or three times for this moment to sink in. Then the next surprise. “I feel like I am in a convalescent home.” ” I am losing my mind.” At which point I added, “thinking you are in a convalescent home shows me you are very observant.” “We have an appointment tomorrow to see if you can get some therapy going on those legs so you can ambulate from one room to another and get in and out of bed on your own as well as in and out of a car.” I also mentioned that I left books for him to read as well as the “Costco Connection.” I know he isn’t into puzzle books, so I have done a few on down time. I mentioned that he should start feeding his mind with books. I bought one on Black Friday dealing with mushrooms. He has yet taken the time to even look at the pictures. I mentioned that I am hoping he will be home soon and that I would need his help in getting from A to B. He was never one to sit back and let someone else do the work for him, but lately, it’s almost like he isn’t trying. Hoping the doctor tomorrow can offer some help. I need to get him out of this situation ASAP.. At least the catheter is out and he is happy that way. Again, I gave him leg exercises to do. He is moving better. I wouldn’t be surprised if by next week he could be standing.

    I did receive an e-mail from Heidi and the answer was take a second look at the model. So I did and then took the necklace out of the box and though dark, the green comes through. It turns out to look exactly like the model and I am pleased. Being a jewelry person I should have known to do this first. It needs to be under light to get the true effect. I am now looking at the “Pickle” pin. It has made me smile for two days and I needed that.

    Hubby has the appointment tomorrow and the group has sent a few e-mails as a reminder and then asked the questions that will make the process easier for tomorrow. The only questions I couldn’t answer were pertaining to the meds. He will have that info with him tomorrow. Following his appointment I will make a stop at Aldi’s (across the street from the medical building) and then Costco (about a mile from the medical building). Not sure if hubby wants a hotdog so will wait on that for tomorrow.

    Our recycles were picked up today. However garbage is tomorrow. I’m all set. The explanation on line was not that good. If there is no pickup tomorrow, it will happen Monday.

    Stay warm. I hope the furry friends that come by every evening notice their new house and are making use of it. A nice quilt on the floor or blanket would make it warmer for them. Wish there was a way for you to heat it during the cold spells. Have a great evening and enjoy your son. Hmm, wonder if he wants to stay longer…….not a bad idea. Poppy will certainly miss him. Now, you four, go enjoy the fire and the hot chocolate. Nothing like something hot to warm the inside. Take care, stay safe.

    I didn’t see hubby tonight. Instead, I got some warmer clothes for him washed and will bring them tomorrow. Not sure if they will fit since he hasn’t worn these in a while. Also, after much hemming and hawing, I decided to take TACI’s advice and contacted Heidi’s retail area through e-mail. I’m not expecting any miracles in that it stated all sales were final. And that also was stated on the invoice.

    Tomorrow we are back to recycle and garbage on our usual days. Guess I better get the things together for pickup.

    Hmm…..I can try. However, it did say all sales final in several areas.

    I will post sometime either Friday or Saturday on the results of the appointment. I just finished the laundry and need to get dressed to see hubby. Take care and thanks for the advice.

    Temp today is supposed to be in the 70s. The new plants out front will need watering and I hope to do that soon. Temps toningth between the mid 40s and 50s. No snow for us, but the homes North will see some good out of this storm. Not sure if the Cape will see rain or snow. From what I have read, looks like all 50 States will be cooler during the month of January. I’m just hoping for some rain events for our area in Florida.

    Hubby greeted me last night with “you gotta get tonight’s dinner.” “It was wonderful.” He didn’t leave one morsel. The plates were wiped clean. Unlike some of the other rehabs, this one does not support the family member with food. You can get water if you ask for it. I compare this place to the one in Savannah, Ga.. At that time I was in a hotel room the six weeks hubby was out of commission. However, the hospital let me stay with hubby 24/7. The hotel/motel I stayed in brought food to me when I returned. However, this one had a restaurant next door that had a 4 or 5 star rating. Fresh fish and chowder were the best I ever tasted and that includes Cape Cod. However, the rehab hubby went to gave me lunch and dinner at no extra cost. You even had daily choices for each meal. However, I had to be out before 7pm each day. Visiting hours started around 11 am. The Lyft brought me to and from daily. I had started out with Uber. I do not dare tell you what they did to me. My credit cards were of no use from the second time I called for a ride. There was absolutely no customer service. It was for the driver only.

    Well, I just confirmed hubby’s appointment for Friday. We are all set for now. I just hope they can do the reconstruction of the knees and if not something that may be an alternative that can help him to stand and walk. At least to make him mobile for leaving the house and getting into and out of the van.

    Not sure about Trivia on Friday because of the orthopedist appointment. I will give it the all college try. Hmm…..wonder if the new Arcade will be up and running after tomorrow or will it take another month or two to see the new games. Very exciting. Love new starts and new ideas.

    Before I forget. I purchased another “dazzling duchess”. necklace from Heidi’s website. This is the first time ever that I do not recommend a piece of jewelry. The stones are a dark opaque green, almost black. Looks nothing like what is shown on line or on the model. It cannot be returned because it was on sale. This was the first piece that I couldn’t wait to purchase, especially after ordering the one from HSN. Oh well, live and learn, I guess.

    @sheba2011

    Hubby is doing OK. His mind has changed since the surgery in November. This is a good thing. He is back joking around and being himself. I agree he should play a piano more. We do have a couple here that are relatively easy to carry and have a good tone. I often want to bring it with me, but he insists that I leave it at home. So be it.

    One of the nurse’s aides blasted him yesterday for using the bathroom on his own. I agreed with her, but she should understand the circumstances. Hubby is tired of not being able to do things on his own and I think he is testing the waters. At the same time he is showing the Phy sical Therapy Unit a reason to resume the exercises. I am hoping that the orthopedist will do something about this even if it with his group next door. If the rehab cannot drive him to the scheduled date, then I guess I will contact the med group that will. I have had to fight every inch of the way for all that has helped him. To think what I had to do to find an Urologist and then go through the testing and the ifs prior to surgery. What a difference in him without that catheter. And what a blessing to see him change.

    I didn’t return to the Farmer’s Market following my hair appointment. In all honesty, I was too hungry and needed some ME time. For some reason the microwave is working OK, but I still need a new dishwasher. New ad comes out on Thursday. Also have my eye on a dining table for o utdoors. Will order it when I’m at Lowes for a dishwasher. The dollar store. Oops, I mean the now dollar and a quarter store had empty shelves. They had one person at the register and that was that. I will take the longer ro ute to rehab in order to try another location.

    It is cold here also with temps in the low 60s. Tonight it will be in the low 40s. That is almost equivalent to what you are feeling in Oz. I hope your son is still enjoying being home with you three. Before I forget. The sunroom picture of what you would like in Colorado is very similar to the backyard at our home in Ct… It’s very tranquil even with all the animals. I will definitely miss this backyard when we sell. It has always been my favorite spot.

    I hope you enjoy the rest of your day. Give a huge hug to Poppy from me and maybe a treat. You would have loved my sweater from yesterday. that was purchased on HSN many years ago when the vendor was from Vermont. The sweater is all about dogs, with names, bones and other treats.

    hi yellow-rose. it has been my experience that the coating put over gold or sterling silver does not last forever. When it tarnishes, the coating leaves a dull finish on your gold as well as on the sterling silver. It does not look the same. However, I have been able to find tarnish free plastic bags or the regular bags that the jewelry comes in and have added the black squared thing to them. This has enabled my jewelry to look like new for years. Also, Colleen Lopez offers jewelry boxes that are wonderful for all kinds of jewelry. I have had some special pieces of sterling as well as gold in these boxes and they have remained tarnished free for years. Definitely give her Prestige boxes a try, if you haven’t already done so. .
