    @taci

    I read your post and I do know about MEDVAC. However, there are no airports near where we live. The closest is almost two hours away and that would mean other transportation to get from A to B in Ct.. The other sad news is that there are orthopedists with a good reputation near us, however we do not have the resources for rehab.. The only thing we do have are convalescent homes with no real rehab facilities. I cannot believe in all these years that our area has not owned up for good quality care following surgery. If hubby can stand on one leg, I can get him to the rest area facilities with a wheelchair that can go over a toilet and the same for home use. He is just starting to use his arms more, and that will be a huge help. I am taking each day as it comes.

    I realize the hurricane season is upon us. My family in Ct. and Md. are just about to feel the effects of Debby. We are safe from the flooding. The sewage in the water system is a huge disaster. This is thanks to our Governor who did not pass a bill for cleaner water., better energy, etc.. He has banned people from talking about climate change. He has already damaged the ownership for people living in condos in the State. This goes for high rises and one storied homes including villas. Luckily for us, we are responsible for our own condo which is one story.
    However, as for us going North, I need to wait for a doctor’s approval. The reason for driving is so we have a vehicle at the other end. I will be looking at the trains and shipping the vehicle as well. On the shipping, most transporters do not permit anything in the car other than insurance and the car’s manual. I'[m not sure if a train is handicapped accessible. Looking at that angle as well.

    Again, I enjoy your posts and recommendations. I will keep everyone posted. It is not an easy decision.

    @xango

    Oh how happy I was to see your post. Just like the flu, it takes a few weeks to feel better and to have the energy to do whatever. Just do not push. The first time I contacted Covid was on our cruise. Hubby had it also. Then just prior to hubby entering rehab in February last year, I again had Covid. This time it took over three weeks before I felt better and wanted to see hubby. He also had Covid while in the hospital due to his passing out from low sugar.

    I also use JM “Clean Boss.” It is a bottle with sprayer, though the spray part comes separately in the same box. You do not need to wear gloves. A little goes a long way. I like it better than anything I have ever used. Yes, there is a smell in some bottles, but I open a window and wear a mask when that happens. Yes, it cleans the bacteria including Covid. The top of the stove never looked so pretty. And the inside of the kitchen cabinets never smelled so good. I was a little apprehensive buying the product after reading the bad reviews. After much hesitation, I decided to give it a try. It was a TS and I think it was either $15.95 for 4 bottles with sprayer or $19.95. For tough areas you can leave it on for a few minutes and wipe the area clean. If you decide to try it, just remember that a little goes a long way.

    Now to get ready to see hubby.

    @sheba2011

    I was supposed to be at rehab around noon today, but had another roofer take a look see and then checked my e-mail and there is one more in the wings. Hubby is aware of the problems here and with the homeowners insurance. I have not kept anything a secret. At the moment we are under a heat advisory until 6 pm or so. There is no breath of fresh air and so thankful the car has A/C. We are expecting thunder storms later this afternoon.

    Yesterday, I was outside for almost two hours while answering a questionnaire. The water or sweat was pouring from my eyes and from every where else. At the end of this, the roofer walked around the house and checked my den area. He could not find the leak. However, he never went up on the roof. So, not to worry, I will not be contacting him again. He is off the list.

    We now have a much greater worry in our city. Seems that sewage poured not only into the rivers and ocean but also into our drinking water. This is one big reason that we purchase bottled water. The Governor has not taken a stance on the manufacturers in Florida to use other resources for their metals and plastic to pour into the ocean and streams. Instead he lets it happen. So now, finally, people are mad and maybe now there will be something happening. I sure hope so.

    I didn’t see hubby yesterday because of the time when the roofer left and being overheated. I am now getting ready to dress and maybe pick up something at the Farmer’s Market for dinner. They have a nice take out area with healthy food. So many things to choose from including their iced tea which is sugar free. I am also thinking of an Acai bowl for hubby. He loves fruit more than anyone I know. I just have to be sure it is soft enough and cut into small pieces before giving him the bowl.

    I have tons to think about. But thank goodness I can give an update to hubby and then it becomes a decision of two.

    @zhenshocks77

    Thank you for the update. I think many of the customers wanted and needed to know, including myself, on what happened to Jennifer Juan. For some reason I do not find Courtney to be authentic. I happened to catch the first day that Jennifer was on air and though shy, was able to give a great description of the artistry pertaining to each piece of jewelry and the length of time to produce it. Jay King helped her from day one and became her mentor. I looked forward to each visit and though I may not have purchased that day, her presentation made me watch continuously and wait impatiently for the next time she would be on air. In all those years I never returned one item. You could tell she was proud of her heritage.

    I will miss Jennifer’s stories pertaining to the reservation. I deeply regret that this happened to such a lovely person. I appreciate the time she spent with us as a teacher and as a vendor. I wish her good health and many smiles as she travels a new route to a better future. Hopefully, we will meet again, someday.

    I am considering leaving Florida for good. Looking into renting a “pod” and having it delivered to our home in New England. The cost of living here is going up and getting homeowner’s insurance is skyrocketing. I read earlier where Citizens has said they are about to go “belly up” if there is a category 5 or more hurricane . All insurance handlers will add premiums to their customers if this occurs in order to save Citizens. Of course Citizens will do likewise. Homeowners who purchased a home in the $300k range may be paying $10,000 for their policy. Already I am seeing people on the East Coast relocating elsewhere. This is especially true for those in a high rise condo where they will have to fork out $60k or better for maintenance. Though they have the HOA fees to contend with, they still are responsible for their unit and whatever else is needed for their building. This is partly due to the maintenance that was not sustained as it should have been and it cost some lives when a high rise condo collapsed a few years ago. Instead of going after the builders or the owners of the high rise, the law makes it easier for the holders of the building (superintendents) to reassess the owners. Luckily, where we live our HOA covers maintenance of the clubhouse, roads, City water, cable TV, . We are responsible for the upkeep of our condo and making the necessary repairs. We are “snowbirds” who would arrive either in October or November and stay through May using the trip as a mini vacation where we stopped at our favorite haunts. The trip is about 1350 miles one way and the trip gets harder and harder every time. We could fly and that is something we could consider since the airport is 4 or 5 miles from us. Since we have two vehicles we could leave one North and the other in Florida. There is quite a bit to be considered. It will not be an easy decision.

    Just finished with another roofer. He asked tons of questions and took pictures. He could not find where the leak was coming from. I don’t know if it was his way to say he didn’t want the job or something else. I did feel he was being totally honest and as he left he mentioned that if I saw water coming in to contact him immediately. But for now, he didn’t see any problems. I had used three plastic bins that Costco sold with the lids. These are a bit larger than I wanted, but the price swayed me. I used the bins to catch whatever was coming from the outside. When I checked the following morning the bins were bone dry. It was extremely hot and humid outside with temps in the 90s and 100% humidity. Sweat was pouring from both of us. I will be taking a shower before visiting hubby. Another thing to look at is the homeowner’s insurance which is now Citizens in Fl.. Just read where they will be going belly up if we get a huge storm. This means that we will be paying through the roof instead of the nose. I am beginning to think that heading North may not be a bad thing.

    Watching the tropics again. Never a dull moment.

    I do not like to fly. So afraid of heights and falling. But for you three who love adventure and hiking, bring masks for your trip. Also check the weather and temps. The temps are high wherever you go.

    Now watching the tropics again. Looks like another hurricane may be forming. Praying that it will not come near us. Better yet, maybe stay out to sea.

    @sheba2011

    We had over 12″ of rain. Not sure what the exact total was. All I can say is that I have never in my life experienced so much water. And to think in a few days with over 90 temps all this will be wiped out and we will return to a drought situation. Oh well…….

    I had a roofer look at our leak and found just what I thought. The people who supposedly repaired the areas did not use new materials. Instead it was a patchwork. Yes, I can call them on the table for this, but why bother. I just hope that these people will not take advantage of us and instead replace what is needed so someone else does not have this problem. I have someone else coming tomorrow. This is becoming very interesting.

    Need to get ready for my visit with hubby. The sun is out and that is a good thing.

    @sheba2011

    I do not recall ever seeing so much rain. I am OK and did drive to see hubby after missing two days. I did add another post to last night to let you know that the roof in our den started to leak again in the same area. I will NOT contact the people who came to our rescue last year. this time I have two roofers who will be here tomorrow and Wednesday with estimates and one phone call that came in while I was with hubby. This last one I will return his call and schedule an appointment.

    I decided to check on the den and lanai during Debby. The lanai is fine, but there is a slow leak in a few spots in the den that were supposed to be patched. Thankfully, I had a few plastic bins that I was going to use for winter clothes and other things. Three of the six bins took care of the problem and as of now, the den is dry.

    I took a chance driving to see hubby. Many of the side streets which I use were impassable. Thankfully, I know the area, so circumventing was not a problem. Hubby was in good spirits and yes, I told him about the den. He was not surprised. We both felt that the outfit we used was not that knowledgeable, but being the only one that we could fine, we really had no choice. Not being prompt from the time of the estimate to the time they showed resulted in our rodent problem. It took five months and at the time they showed, I had Covid for the second time. Anyway, I did my homework and I found what I hope will be top notch people who are well recommended.

    I happened to check out Heidi’s area and she had a few new items added. From what I’ve read, she will be returning the beginning of September (around the 6th). Connie Craig Carroll had some beautiful pieces last week. I ended up purchasing a few. Just couldn’t resist.

    I hope you are having a great day and celebrating your birthday with tons of surprises and then some. Wishing you good health and fun days to enjoy with family and friends.

    The roads leading to the Rehab are impassible. The roads are near streams that flood. I hemmed and hawed for hours and decided to stay home and relax for a change. I am hoping to try tomorrow late morning to see hubby. Cannot believe in this weather that the garbage pickup is on for tomorrow while all State offices are closed. I will wait until Thursday. Enjoy the games and have a great evening.
