NATIONAL MUTT DAY

National Mutt Day encourages us to embrace, save and celebrate mixed breed dogs. This fur-eindly celebration is so popular, we celebrate twice a year–July 31st and December 2nd.

Desperately longing for a new home, millions of loving and healthy mixed breed dogs in shelters wait for someone to come and adopt them. National Mutt Day provides an excellent opportunity to find the perfect canine companion. Despite the name, a mutt learns, obeys and trains much like purebred animals. While their lineage cannot be traced and their features are a bit murky, their companionship will be faithful.

NATIONAL AVOCADO DAY

Add National Avocado Day on July 31st to your menu of delicious food holidays to celebrate. Avocados are so versatile you can use them for everything from the appetizer to main dishes. Get ready to clear the table for an entire meal to make sure you enjoy this delicious food in style.

NATIONAL GET GNARLY DAY

The last Friday in July provides an opportunity to embrace new ideas and toss out old ways on National Get Gnarly Day. Much like surfers challenging the waves, Get Gnarly Day challenges us to put some gnarliness into everything we do.

The word “Gnarly” seems to have originated in the 1960s by surfers as a description of waves while surfing. Any surfer knows the water in the wave can appear dangerous, scary, but can also be exciting. If you could ride the wave, surfers would respond with a “gnarly dude.” Interestingly, gnarly was carried over into the 1980s in pop culture slang, meaning “excellent” or “gross.”

I was under the weather all day yesterday. Not sure if it was a sulfite thing or a stomach virus. Ended up taking meds for both. Could not reach the doctor’s office and not able to drive to a walk-in. Neighbor next door had a bad fall and broke her ankle. She can barely walk and I am surprised that she is not using a cane or walker.

I did see hubs today. He was in his wheelchair in the hallway. Good spirits. I had a delivery from Sam’s and one of the items was a potato dish with scallions and cheese. It was really good. So I heated a couple and brought them to hubs for a treat. You should have seen that smile from one end to another. He said they were better than mine. I still need to shop at Aldi’s and Costco. By t he way, Sam’s has a tropical fruit platter in their deli section. I will be taking a look at that to see if it would be good for hubs as well as the nurse’s station. Our Farmer’s Market has started to cut in some areas Their ad is now 4 pages and may be consolidated into two. Fruit and veggies are now nowhere in sight. Looks like they are not taking chances, even those from Fl;orida.

Traffic today was horrendous. Took me 20 minutes to make a right hand turn. I surmise people are done with their awaycations. School starts Monday for some schools in Florida, others start the following week. Take care. Hope your niece is following doctor’s orders. I am praying that there are no surprises when the tests come back. Have a great walk with Poppy. It’s too cloudy to see the moon. Rain for us tomorrow beginning around 8am and going past noon. I will go shopping after it passes.
