On February 8th, National Iowa Day recognizes The Hawkeye State. Located in the Midwestern region of the United States, Iowa is known for its rolling hills, cornfields, and small towns. While it may not be the first state that comes to mind when thinking about interesting or unusual facts, there are still plenty of cool things to know about Iowa.

The “Quad God” took the ice for the first time at the 2026 Winter Games, finishing second in the men’s short program during team event qualifiers.

Happy birthday Francesca Lollobrigida!
Lollobrigida, competing today on her 35th birthday, brought home the gold for Team Italy in the women’s speed skating 3000m — and set an Olympic record in the process.

Francesca Lollobrigida is also the niece of the late Gina Lollobrigida.

U.S. champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates dominated Saturday’s team free dance event while dancing to “Paint it Black” by The Rolling Stones.

This was a well done event.

I thought the Lindsey Vonn fall was kind of strange. There wasn’t an obstacle or tight turn, maybe her bad knee gave out quickly. But what do I know, I’ve only skied once in my life and that was enough!⛷️ I said the same thing as you said to my husband about the snowboard jumpers. How have they not killed themselves learning this?🏂

Got some food from the supermarket deli to have watching the game.🥘🍤 Heat and eat, no cooking. Not into either team so I’ll be fine with whoever wins.🏈

ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST DAY

The first Saturday in February is a big treat because it’s Ice Cream for Breakfast Day! What better way to start the day than with a refreshingly sweet scoop of ice cream with your breakfast?

Whether the sun rises over a frosty morning or a warm one, having a scoop or two of ice cream for breakfast once a year places a bright spot right in the middle of winter. The creamy goodness of chocolate or vanilla will start Saturday off right. Add some fresh fruit or sprinkle some of your favorite cereal for some crunch.

Those who like to get creative with their ice cream might like bacon or avocado-flavored ice cream at breakfast time. How about cinnamon toast and coffee ice cream? There are so many ways to participate in this deliciously good day. All you really have to do, though, is have ice cream for breakfast.

I am home from the Rehab. Hubs had a bad coughing fit yesterday at lunch. He is back on puree foods and hopefully, will be back on a regular diet soon. His speech is very low, almost a whisper.
However, everything else is OK. I will not be bringing any food for awhile. This includes easy to nibble cookies which he loves.

Here it is, the middle of winter and I had a real bad sinus attack along with the headache. Seems the tree sap has started it’s movement, thus the reason. I remember one year when the buds for the leaves started to burst only to get a cold spell. It killed all the buds, but two months later, the leaves started. Can never judge the weather in Florida.

Guess I will have some chicken broth. Not that hungry, but will eat something to tie me over until tomorrow morning. Temp tonight is in the 50s, but there is a wind. Feels like the mid to upper 30s. Oh well, tis the season.

NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY

National Wear Red Day, on the first Friday in February, is an annual campaign to raise awareness about heart disease in women.

NATIONAL CHOPSTICKS DAY

Each year on National Chopsticks Day, people worldwide celebrate the humble and ancient utensils on February 6th.

Around 1200 B.C., Chinese cooks began using chopsticks to prepare food. These tools were likely long enough to reach into hot cooking pots. Then about 400 B.C., when fuels for cooking became scarce, food was prepared in smaller pieces reducing the number of resources needed to cook it. Good afternoon. It took 45 minutes to arrive home from the Rehab. I missed all the lights. One took 3 times to get through. I could not wait to get indoors. Sat on the bed and the next thing I knew it was 5am. So the computer was closed until now.

I ordered Sicilian eggplant as an appetizer last night from our favorite pizza place. I expected just a couple of slices, but No, it was in a huge aluminum pan with a cover. The bottom of that pan was hot hot hot. There were a couple of slices left when the aide came in to retrieve the dinner trays. She never asked if we were done with the food. She put it on the dinner cart and off she went. That will teach me to cover it up and put it with the tote that I use daily. Anyway, it was more than enough for two meals. And this was an appetizer. Both of us were astonished at the portion size, especially for an appetizer.

Yes, hubs ate a full dinner besides the appetizer. My, he has a good appetite. Dessert was applesauce in a hoodsie cup. And he still asked for cookies following. Last night I also ordered a grinder with sausage, cheese and peppers. I had a little this morning and will have the rest at dinner if I’m hungry. Since the fall, my appetite has gone downhill. I need to lose some weight, so am thankful that it is coming off. I need to start walking again, but the weather is still too cold here. Today it is in the 50s, but with the wind chill factor it feels like 35. Now will get ready to see hubs. Will do some food shopping tomorrow. The weather here is crazy. No wonder people are getting sick. Warm up is next week. Cold temps are on the horizon. So what else is new????

I think with all the cleaning and things you do that you get a lot of exercise.

Sheba, After she opened the bag I could see the color was dark and then I showed her the picture on my phone of what I bought. I have no idea what the pants size or style was as they were all folded up and I just wanted the sweater. I was really glad to have the error caught at the store. They don’t carry the item in the store so I would have to buy it on-line. She did tell me they will be getting better and more merchandise and the Store wont be closing as it is growing. 🙂 That was good news.
I’m trying to buy in person when I can because I want to see what I am buying. Then no returns so everyone is happy.
Where my Mother lived in AZ there were tons and tons of retail stores. We don’t have the same amount unless I travel north or south.

US Olympians are greeted at Milan’s airport with star-spangled Ralph Lauren uniforms

Marking the quintessentially American brand’s 10th time outfitting Team U.S.A., Ralph Lauren has officially unveiled its collection for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams competing in the Milano Cortina 2026 Games.

With nearly 20 years as Team U.S.A.’s official outfitter under its belt, Ralph Lauren designed the Opening and Closing Ceremonies Parade uniforms, along with a collection of “Villagewear” (complete with cold-weather accessories) for off-duty Olympians.

For Team U.S.A.’s Opening Ceremony uniform, the American fashion house referenced the host city’s signature craftsmanship through a sleek, white wool toggle jacket, matching tailored trousers and a cozy turtleneck sweater. Olympic snowboarder Red Gerard, who won the gold in slopestyle at just 17 years old in PyeongChang in 2018, is returning to the Winter Games this year; he donned the Opening Ceremony outfit at a press preview of Ralph Lauren’s 2026 collection on Wednesday.

“It’s been an amazing partnership,” Gerard tells Fashionista of working with Ralph Lauren. “I’ve been a fan for a while and I can definitely say my clothing style has gotten a little bit better for sure since then.”

The Closing Ceremony uniform reflects a more relaxed silhouette inspired by vintage skiwear, featuring a color-blocked puffer jacket with Olympic patches, slightly baggy utility pants and a turtleneck mirroring the American flag and Olympic rings also seen on the Opening Ceremony design. Brenna Huckaby, a three-time Paralympic gold medalist in snowboarding, modeled the Closing Ceremony uniform on Wednesday: “I love how clean and crisp and just put-together it is,” Huckaby says. “I love the sweater, I will definitely be wearing it after the games.”

I do work out and I do get my steps in. I am glad I have a multi-level home
so I can go up and down the stairs. I want my legs to stay in shape and of
course the Gluteus maximus. 😎

Sheba, Steps are great. We have an upstairs but not a huge amount of steps.
It sounds like you have a lot more steps.
I’ve heard it is a great exercise and would love to find a place to climb steps. We don’t have anything like that here. The neighbor has tiny dogs (2) and the space between the steps is almost the size of their bodies. Have no idea how they go up and down but they do. 🙂

Love the Olympics Fashion!

Not sure why but I found it very funny that I bought a sweater online for store delivery. When I picked it up today the cashier asked if wanted her to open it and I said sure. I just stood there laughing. My lovely cream colored sweater wasn’t there. It was a pair of Ralph Lauren Pants. Huh? What? I’m so glad she asked about opening it.

Glad you have sun and are warmer. More snow for us tomorrow and the high on Saturday is 10. We have ice dams in the gutters. This is getting very tiring.😒
