Conversation – 26
Hello Peeps time for a new Conversation Thread. This is number 26 out of the
series. I created and started this thread 10 years ago.😎🎈
I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. ✨😎
I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. 🌹✨😎

FIND YOUR INNER NERD DAY
August 23 is Find Your Inner Nerd Day on the National Day Calendar, and we are sending out an SOS for all inner nerds today! It’s time to show the world how amazing our differences are and inspire everyone to embrace our quirkiness by sharing what we love.
Nerds come in all shapes and sizes. There are academic nerds, book-worm nerds, movie nerds, science nerds, and nerds no one has ever heard of. Society paints nerds as glasses-wearing people who are uncomfortable, shy, and awkward in social settings. But it’s time to ditch the old stereotypes! We all have a little nerd inside of us, and it’s our unique quirkiness that makes us who we are.
Being a nerd is about embracing what you love. If you have a dog clothes knitting addiction, keep knitting! If your guest room is filled with your Star Wars action figure collection, keep collecting! Our nerdy collections have personal meaning and bring us joy. On Find Your Inner Nerd Day, we encourage you to share all of your nerdy habits, collections, hobbies, and passions and inspire others to share their inner nerdiness, too!
In the wonderful world of nerds, like-minded people search out other fellow nerds who have similar interests. Why wouldn’t they? No one understand your Pez collection more than someone else who has spent endless hours searching for collectables, too.

NATIONAL CUBAN SANDWICH DAY | AUGUST 23
On August 23, we celebrate a sandwich that originated in Cuba, but grew up in Florida. National Cuban Sandwich Day is a tribute to flavor found in a toasted pressed sandwich.
While the Cubano traditionally consists of ham, roast pork, swiss cheese, pickles and mustard on Cuban bread, restaurants and home cooks serve up different versions. While the sandwich alone may serve as a satisfying meal, some very flavorful sides complement this globe-trotting sandwich. Like any grilled sandwich, a creamy, dunkable soup makes the perfect complement.
The sandwich brings together flavor and history, too. By combining traditions from Cuban, German, and Italian immigrants, the sandwich offers a world tour of simple ingredients. If you’ve never had one, this is the day to try it.

NATIONAL SPONGE CAKE DAY
On August 23, enjoy National Sponge Cake Day with the quintessential classic of the cake world. This airy queen of teas is the guest of honor, but we get the pleasure of tasting!
One of the trickiest cakes for bakers to master, a perfect sponge stands tall. Another balancing trick for bakers includes maintaining a fine crumb while keeping the cake moist. If you enjoy layering berries and whipped cream, the sponge handles this task beautifully.
The sponge cake is believed to be one of the first non-yeasted cakes.
The sponge cake is thought to have originated in the Caribbean. However, the earliest English printed recipe for sponge cake comes from an English poet and author, Gervase Markham. In 1615 he published a sponge cake recipe in the book The English Huswife, Containing the Inward and Outward Virtues Which Ought to Be in a Complete Woman.
In 2003, the sponge cake played a tiny role in the movie Calendar Girls starring Helen Mirren. In the scene, Mirren’s character, Chris, enters a baking competition. However, she forgets she entered, and instead of entering a sponge cake of her own making, she submits a store-bought Victoria sponge cake.
