National Donate Life Blue & Green Day, observed annually in April, encourages us to wear blue and green to raise awareness about organ donation.

National Day of Silence in April each year is a student-led movement to protest bullying and harassment of , , bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students and those who support them. The Day of Silence brings awareness and illustrates to the schools and the colleges how intimidation, name-calling, and general bullying have a silencing effect. Participating students take a day-long vow of silence.

NATIONAL COLORADO DAY

Today, April 11, 2024 we celebrate the 36th anniversary of the song “One More Try”.
“One More Try” is a song recorded by George from his debut solo studio album, “Faith” (1987). It was released on April 11, 1988.

As George told Countdown in 1988, “One More Try” was written, recorded and finished within eight hours.

He said: “I think this is the best thing I’ve ever done. It’s certainly my best vocal. I actually wrote the whole thing from start to finish in eight hours. We recorded it the same day.
What happened was I was working on another song which was going disastrously then this just came out. I don’t find ‘One More Try’ hard to listen to the way I did ‘A Different Corner’.It’s more engaging. When I wrote ‘A Different Corner’ I was still in the middle of feeling that way about the relationship while ‘One More Try’ is after I decided…”.

The song was the fourth of seven singles to be released from George’s debut solo album Faith.
This wonderful ballad lyrically explores a young man’s hesitancy to enter/revisit a new relationship because he had been emotionally hurt so many times previously. The song concludes with temptation taking over, and George ends by singing the title for the only time.
“One More Try” remained a live favourite at George’s concerts in the years which followed.
Filmmaker Tony Scott (“Top Gun”) directed the simple music video for the song, which features George singing alone in an empty room.

The first shot of the video alone lasts a little over two minutes, ending at the beginning of the second verse. Throughout, a grey-blue light can be seen shining into his window, a metaphor for loneliness. In another scene, he attempts to draw a heart on his bathroom cabinet’s glass door, but cannot finish the heart, as at this point, sadness and grief have taken over. His furniture can also be seen with drapes over each piece, as well as the curtains drawn, another lonely metaphor.

The video was filmed at The Carrington Hotel in New South Wales, Australia, which was empty and derelict at the time.

Yesterday, hubby was coughing quite a bit. I got chewed for bringing him a taste of salmon from a can. I had made it without celery or bok choy. Instead added some marmalade (sugar free) and Caesar dressing instead of mayo. Also added chopped onion and relish. There was nothing in it to make him cough, yet I was told right in front of hubby, not to bring one morsel of food ever again or risk not seeing him. Hubby was distraught and felt like a prisoner. Sometime later I started feeling nauseous and had to leave. It was past 10pm. I arrived home and my throat felt sore so I had some manuka honey. When I awoke this morning I had no voice. Had to wait several hours for it to come back and called the head nurse. I, in a raspy voice told him to check on hubby immediately. The cough could be the onset of pneumonia. I mentioned I was sick and yes to tell hubby, but also mentioned that hubby had lost his voice last night which I attributed to the coughing. There was nothing in the salmon to make him cough. There was nothing in the applesauce or the roasted peppers the night prior. But, will work even harder now to get him home. He knows now that he may never walk again, however I mentioned that if he can stand on one leg the rest will enable me to help him. I also mentioned that he needed to strengthen his arms. This will help him get from wheelchair to sofa or chair. We have a walker here to help whatever and a wheelchair. I am now going to look for a scooter with a seat that rises so he can cook and do the things he enjoys. Now, I need to get some rest. I have remained home all day with chills and fever. Fever just broke and my energy is coming back. I did not go to get the van. Part of it is having to use Uber. Not sure if I will see hubby tomorrow, but may try if I am up to it with a mask.

I love grilled cheese sandwiches!🥪 And I love almost anything with cheese on or in it.🧀 Hubs brought home Arby’s beef and cheddar sandwiches today; otherwise, I would be concocting a grilled cheese with whatever I have. National Living Donor Day on April 11 celebrates and honors the brave people who step up and save lives by donating their living organs and tissue to heal those in need!

NATIONAL PET DAY

National Pet Day on April 11th dedicates the day to those pets who may not always get the companionship and attention pets deserve. While loving our pets is something we do every day, the observance encourages helping out orphaned pet companions. It will improve their health and enhance their opportunities for adoption.

Sometimes their human companions aren’t well. Making sure their forever furry friends are receiving the best of care will help relieve stress and worry.

National Pet Day is an excellent time to do a few checks for your pets.

Go through your furever family member’s toys. Throw away any items that are no longer safe.
Maintain your pet-friendly home. Keep cords and toxins secure from your four-legged friends. This includes phone chargers.
Verify when vaccinations are due and schedule an appointment to update if they are due.
Check collars to ensure tags are secure and numbers are current. We sometimes forget to update this information when we move or change numbers.

It is very windy here and we are now under a wind advisory until 8pm. The dishwasher was installed today and I am a happy camper. What I didn’t know until I opened it is that the entire inside is Stainless Steel. I was told last night that I will need to redo all the dishes I washed by hand. This way I will know that they are sanitized and I will not be afraid to use them. Oh well, so be it. At least it will go faster.

I’m not sure if I mentioned last night that hubby’s cough is due to the food not passing through the esophagus because of being narrow. The other side of this is that the muscles are not working the way they should. I am wondering if he has a form of Parkinson’s which seem to run in his family. Anyway, I am now getting ready for a trip to Aldi’s. Tomorrow is the Farmer’s Market and probably Costco.

Other than sinus headaches and some sinus migraines, I am fine. Just need some sleep and hope to do this soon. I will be taking hubby out tomorrow and the Rehab will help him into my car. I am hoping to pick the van up tomorrow from the dealership. I was going to do it yesterday, but had to wait for the phone call pertaining to the installation.

Have a great day and a nice walk with Poppy. I am looking forward to the torrential rain coming through in about an hour. Hope to be at rehab before then.

Oh, left word with Taci on her delivery from HD. The hold up might be due to the weather conditions from NJ. to CA… Have no idea of the route, but with all that snow and rain, some Post Offices may have temporarily closed. At least that is my thought.

I was about to contact the dealership to pick the van up, but instead I will be taking a ride to rehab. Hubby was Ok, but seemed to be off somewhat. He was doing a great deal of coughing and I had not given him any food. He kept dozing off and coughing in his sleep. I wonder if something is going on. There was also a new apparatus in his room. An Atomizer. I think that is what it’s called. It’s a device that gives you steam to open the airways. So, instead of calling the dealership, I will be making a trip to the Rehab to check on him. I will write later. I am very concerned and wonder why I was not contacted.

Hubby seems to be very Congested. He is coughing, but nowhere like yesterday. I just want to be sure that it isn’t a cold or another issue. The atomizer seems to be working. However, I may postpone the outing until after the weekend. This will be his first time out of rehab in over a year. He has come a long oway and I do not want him to slide when things are coming together. I did leave voice mail with the head nurse and saw his assistant this evening.
. So far have not been updated., though I suspect she is busy. May hear on the way out.

I will have KP when I get home. The installer will be at the house late morning/early afternoon. There are dishes in the sink and the area for the dishwasher needs to be washed. Clean Boss will come in handy. By the way I received the TS today. The song “Just In Time” comes to mind.

Sheba, You and Poppy get your walks in nice and early. I will leave in about an hour to attempt to run and then walk. Baby steps right? haha.
I went to USPS and submitted a where’s my package case, they are awesome and replied by the next day that it was stuck in NJ and they would contact the sender. Additionally, I contact HD CS via e-mail and they said they were working on it, and also replied quickly, however, at this point a refund is all I need. Sometimes things happen. Most of the time in my case, about 99.5 percent of the time I have luck with shipping. At this time, I am waiting to see what happens. Btw, the packages are insured so that’s good for the sender. 🙂

Sheba, hello and glad your taxes are done. Ours are done as well.
I was walking today after getting there early to slowly run and get a quick 45 minutes of activity.
Told my friend where I ran and had a good laugh because she assumed I went to the 2nd stop area. No, only the 1st. haha, I have time to get better but running is kind of boring.
Had a brief rattle snake encounter, it was crossing the trail and right by my foot. I jumped fast. All was good.

Hi Taci. I purchased SB’s hobo travel bag, Item #865-540 in BLACK. You may want to look at this since it is smaller and can easily fold and carried in the larger TS without a problem. It can hold your train tickets and other things as well. I have been using a multisac for years for this reason. This is very light weight and has tons of storage. It also fits over the handles of luggage. I’m thinking that this would be better suited to those shorter trips.

Love your hikes, but coming across a rattler is not my cup of tea. I think that would scare me enough to shy away from trails. As for flying, not sure if I could trust a long trip. At least not now.

Hi and a happy day to you.

The dishwasher is currently sitting in a box by the front door. You can’t miss it !!!😀😀 I contacted Costco and they gave me a phone number to contact the vendor they use for delivery. I definitely could not contact the person who did the delivery even though I had his phone number. I did make the call and the dishwasher will be installed Thursday. Someone will call me the day prior with the time frame. I will move the date with hubby to Friday which works out better.

Hubby is doing great as of yesterday. He is joking more and laughing more which is a good thing. Unfortunately, he will need to sit in the car the entire time. I cannot let him out unless someone from the Rehab is with me. He cannot as yet stand on his one good leg. He thinks he can walk and do the things he used to. He can, but in a different way. Just his brain has not told him yet. Friday should be very interesting. He has a lot to see. I will also show him the route I take every day to see him. He also asked to see Culvers and the place where I order Italian food that includes pizza. It so happens that both places are in the same shopping center.

I am now getting ready to put some things together for hubby. He asked for applesauce and a second helping of the roasted red peppers which I found at Costco. I will bring soup for myself for dinner. I usually add shrimp, chicken and meatballs with noodles. I will make enough for hubby. I now have a stove I can use. It has been months since I’ve been able to cook. It took a lot of elbow grease and a mask to get it where it needed to be. The oven was a no brainer. Used Clean Boss as well and was surprised how it actually cleaned. I probably should have used it from the beginning. It would have saved me the extra step. I also lost my beloved Air Fryer due to the rodents. They had chewed the cord and then some. I do have a new one and as soon as the counter is decluttered I will take it out of the box.

I see Wolfgang Puck will be back on air next week and HD in two weeks. I am trying so hard not to purchase, but, alas, I always seem to find something I cannot live without.

We had a partial Eclipse here in OZ it got very dark. I was not going out I watched CNN

On April 7, 1985 Wham! made history in China by being the first Western pop group to play in China when they perform at the Worker’s Gymnasium, the biggest stadium in Beijing at that time, for an audience of 12,000, and a few days after on April 10 they performed at Canton’s Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall for an audience of 5,000 and the crediti goes to their manager, Simon Napier-Bell. Their whirlwind 10 day trip all caught on the documentary Wham! in China: Foreign Skies. And also the video “Freedom” opens like a documentary with George and Andrew talking about the trip under footage of their adventures in China.
At that time Wham! wasn’t really known in China that was still a community country and was in process of industrialistation for this reason they decided to give away with every ticket sold cassette tapes with the voice of a Chinese Singer named Cheng Fangyuan covering the songs of Wham! in Chinese on one side, and on the other side Wham’s original songs, hopefully the audience hearing the songs in Chinese, would sing along with them.
The audience is mostly government official and curious teenagers.
The police had warned spectators to stay seated, worried that they would be unable to control the crowds and that there might even be riots.
The crowd then watched in near silence as George and Andrew bounded onto the stage in their big-shouldered suits, backed by an 11-piece band and dancers, and launched into their greatest hits such as “Club Tropicana, “Careless Whisper”, “Everything She Wants” and many others. The screams of the crowd prove just what a special night it was for everyone who witnessed the concert. Some young Chinese who got up to dance were hauled away by security officers . But the unforgettable moment of the night was when the audience gradually fell silent as George serenaded them with “Careless Whisper”.
Speaking about the concert Andrew said “It was an extraordinary experience”.
And thanks to the Wham! there concert influenced Chinese musicians, who had never seen electric guitars played on stage and began to get interested in rock `n’ roll.

What do you think of the Eclipse tomorrow? Will you be able to see it? We will have 90%
Totality. I did watch it in 2017 but I am not taking any chances this year. I think I will stay inside
I hope the animals take cover.

In 2024 the path crosses more major population centers than the 2017 eclipse, enabling 31.6 million people to see the eclipse without leaving their city, versus just 12 million in 2017. In addition, one of the most entrancing parts of a total solar eclipse is the view of the sun’s corona during totality.

The next Eclipse will be in 2044. 😎

Good evening you can bet Poppy will be out early I am staying indoors during the Eclipse.
I went all out in 2017 I ran in the yard with glasses on and it was fantastic. This time I am
being a little bit more careful. 😎🎈

I have my glasses with the ISO printed on the inside. The animals are all out tonight it’s like
they know something will happen tomorrow.

I told our children to be careful and protect their eyes. 😘😎

I hope you have a great hike Poppy and I did have a good walk tonight. Hey it’s more for
me to stay in shape than Poppy. LOL! 😎I want to keep good muscle tone and bones.

Good Sunday afternoon to you. I sure did not celebrate National No Housework Day. So far I’ve done two loads of laundry, swept all the floors, ran to the supermarket, have a roast, potatoes, carrots in the crockpot and cut my husband’s hair.😲 Probably a few more things before this evening. I’ll just have to celebrate another day.

Beautiful day in the ‘burgh, have some windows open.🌞 Hubs did some yard work since the rain has finally left for a few days.

Hope all is calm with the cats and coons.🐱🦝 I saw a bunny hopping around the yard and also a hawk sitting on the fence with either a squirrel or chipmunk. Welcome to the nature preserve. Unlike you, I do not feed them, they are on their own with mother nature.

I also have a JM set of luggage. It has held up well. That was many years ago. Sending back sunny hugs to you and Poppy.🤗💖

Good evening I only feed the cats and I give the possums water I leave extra water for them.
I do not feed the racoons and they are becoming annoying the gun is not doing very well.
I am calling animal control tomorrow.

I think I will put the food out in the early morning when the cats come and I will watch
for the cats in the camera to put it out in the evening I don’t care if they drink water.

Are you going to watch the Eclipse I do not think I am going out in it. I will peep out the door
with my glasses.

I know you are looking forward to your sister returning from California. I have a couple of
sister like that. 😘😎🎈Always there when you really need them for your parent and sometimes
yourself.

Who Am I?

The question “Who am I?” is a seed that can bear much fruit if given the chance to unfold.

At some point in our lives, or perhaps at many points in our lives, we ask the question, “Who am I?” At times like these, we are looking beyond the obvious, beyond our names, and beyond the names of the cities and states we came from — into the layers beneath our surface identities. We may feel the need for a deeper sense of purpose in our lives, or we may be ready to accommodate a more complex understanding of the situation in which we find ourselves. Whatever the case, the question of who we are is a seed that can bear much fruit.

It can send us on an exploration of our ancestry or the past lives of our soul. It can call us to take up journaling to discover that voice deep within us that seems to know the answers to a multitude of questions. It can draw our attention so deeply inward that we find the spark of spirit that connects us to every living thing in the universe. One Hindu tradition counsels its practitioners to ask the question over and over, using it as a mantra to lead them inevitably into the heart of the divine.

While there are people who seem to come into the world knowing who they are and why they are here, the human journey, for the most part, appears to be very much about asking this question and allowing its answers to guide us on our paths. So when we find ourselves in the heart of unknowing, we can have faith that we are in a very human place, as well as a very divine one. “Who am I?” is a timeless mantra, a Zen koan, ultimately designed to lead us home into the part of our minds that finally lets go of questions and answers and finds instead the ability to simply be. AMEN! 😎🎈

At the moment I am trying to decide whether or not to return the dishwasher to Costco. You would think after some of their reviews they would either have changed vendors for the install or asked for better training from the one they use. This installer was by no means a handy person which is what you need to do the job. At the moment an outside person starts at $160 just to enter your home. Then it is so much per hour. Lowes charges $209.46 for the install plus $50 for the takeaway. Home depot asks the customer to unplug and remove the hose prior to anyone setting foot into your home. Of course there is an extra charge from both places for the new hose and other things that may be required. It was quite a savings from Costco. Then again, maybe it isn’t. One thing for sure, I will have someone other than Costco to do the install as well. I do not trust their person. The hose is near the pipeline and there is an outlet for the plug in. I may try to undo this myself and will turn the outlets off prior. This person never looked nor did he have a flashlight to see where everything is situated. Funny, I read some of the reviews and most had the same comment. And the worse part is that Costco went along with what this person stated.

I finally figured out what was wrong. A few months ago I had a vapor barrier installed under the house (there are no basements in Florida due to high water levels) and he also did the inside of our home where rodents could enter. He used foam in crevices, under cabinets, under and around vents, etc.. Just contacted him and there is a barrier behind the dishwasher which can easily be picked away in case it encompassed the long hose for the dishwasher. I contacted a local handy person and though tomorrow is Sunday, will be out to check the area and to uninstall the dishwasher. He also knows how to install. So will see how this works out. And best of all, the price is right.

Now will get ready to see hubby. This time will bring him ice cream. He only asked for it everyday this week. Guess that means a stop at Culvers.

Raising Your Child’s Confidence

One of the most precious gifts you can grant your children is the true independence they gain when they become stewards of their own happiness.

Parents are moved by instinct to love, nurture, and provide for their offspring. Because our children are so much a part of us, we want to see them blissfully happy. Also, our own desire to be liked, materialist pressures, and a fervent wish that our children should have everything we lacked as youngsters can prompt us to spoil them. However, while it might seem that buying your child expensive gifts will give them fond memories of childhood or that you can heal your emotional wounds by doting on your sons and daughters, you may be unconsciously interfering with your children’s development. One of the most precious gifts you can grant your children is the true independence they gain when they learn to earn what they most want and become stewards of their own happiness. Try allowing your children to experience life to the fullest. When the time comes for them to live on their own, you will have the confidence that you raised a child that can both enter and contribute to society.

When children are not afforded the opportunity to explore self-reliance, they may develop a sense of entitlement that blinds them to hard work and the needs of others. We may indulge children because giving them gifts is pleasurable. Or we may want to avoid conflict out of fear that our children won’t love us. Yet children who are given acceptance, love, and affection in abundance are often kinder, more charitable, and more responsible than those who received their every material demand. They develop a strong sense of self that stretches beyond possessions and the approval of their peers, and as adults, they understand that each individual is responsible for building the life they desire. If you find yourself giving in to your child’s every whim, ask yourself why. You may discover that the answer is connected more to your own needs.

Rearing your children to respect the value of money and self-sufficiency as they grow from infants to young adults is a challenging but rewarding process. It can be difficult to watch a child struggle to meet a personal goal, yet it is wonderful to be by their side as they achieve it. By showing them understanding and compassion and being fully present with them, you support their journey toward adulthood. AMEN! 😘🎈
