Conversation 24

  • Sheba2011
  • 03.31.24 10:31 PM

Hello Peeps time for a new Conversation Thread. This is number 24 out of the
series. I created and started this thread 10 years ago.

I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. ✨😎

I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. 🌹✨😎

Oodie I did read your respond on the Orient I love it. 💕😎🎈

Let me know how hubby is doing and I hope you wore a mask during the yard work today.

Sheba, got the ts in black and the small waist pack in black. Had to check the specs for the smaller airlines and it should work. Hubs wants to go again in October for a while. I told him I have to color my hair so 4 weeks max but we will see. We were also tempted to check out the highly rated Dentist near our location, so maybe we will next time. Most likely hubs and not me as I am more anxious about it. It is much more affordable than here.
Hope you and yours had a wonderful Easter.
We had lots of rain last night and more tonight but I still managed a great walk.

      • 04.01.24 3:00 AM

      @taci

I had to contact CS on another matter and inquired about whether or not the TS was waterproofed or water resistant. No one really knew. However, the feeling was that it had to be somewhat resistant to water because of the material. I think that is what I mentioned in your post. I am going with it because it is something I really need. The backpack will definitely free my hands for other things. I’m not sure if I would use a pocket for a water bottle because it would add extra weight. Then again, if used as a back pack, it wouldn’t feel that heavy. One thing for sure. It will be great for a cruise and sightseeing.

      • 04.01.24 2:48 AM

      @sheba2011

I did not visit hubby today. I had a real bad sinus attack where my eyesight blurred. I took my sinus meds and an aspirin and guess I fell asleep. I am now OK as if nothing happened. I am working in the kitchen and cleaning the stovetop and the oven. Tomorrow I will put it into self-clean mode. The new dishwasher is scheduled for Friday. The date was changed from this past Wednesday.

I love the Orient. So glad we were able to visit a few times. The first time we flew to Hong Kong and China, my mom had asked for pearls. I forgot which one she asked for, but did inquire. I found that a good strand of pearls that were between 7 and 8 mil. would start at 5k. I must have ventured every street in Hong Kong looking for those pearls. I was able to find something else My husband raved when I showed him what I bought. My mom hated it. She claimed that I didn’t go to the right places. I was devastated and cried myself to sleep that night and a few days after. Today, that necklace is worth more than a few pennies. I even explained what the pearls would have cost, but it went in one ear and out the other. The sapphire I loved was over $800 for the stone alone. Add a few hundred dollars for the gold in a pendant was more than I wish to spend. We had other places to visit. I do regret not buying it, but I will stick with our decision

I broke down and bought the TS in the floral and burgundy wallet. I have been searching for a back pack for years. Everything I had looked at was either too heavy or too small. Found overnighters that were Ok but they had no compartments so searching for an item became almost impossible. I also needed something that was light weight. This weighs ounces, not pounds.

Now, my break is about over. Back to KP.

Welcome to Spring and to the new Thread. I have had threads that have run well over
two years. LOL! I see I need to change it more often. Anyway this is thread number 24.
I could have had twice as many due to the fact I did not change that often. So now I see
I need to be aware how often I have to change it. I have been here at HSN since the 90’s
Xango this thread I created is ten years old. I work very hard on it and I am proud of it.
Most people used to write me on the HSN private mail that they like looking but
they don’t post. Hence, the reason this has never been a large thread.

I enjoy all the girls who have been with me through thick and thin and I have had a lot
going on in these years. Xango you are one of them and I thank you for your time and patience.

Just get well and hope to hear from you when you are able to post. 😘🎈😎

      @oodiebom,

Good afternoon on the Gulf Coast of Florida. 😎🎈😘I hope KP is one and done. I think
my kitchen is calling me for a good spring cleaning a one and done job. 😎

Oz is cloudy and rainy just what we need. I have not planted any flowers or plants just yet
because the weather is iffy here in these parts. I will wait another week and see how the
      weather looks.

Oodie I could read you talk about the Orient all day. I simply love any thing from the Orient.
I think I may have said years ago I have a blue and white indoor patio which is all windows.
I am not bragging but it is a beautiful room. I have have white planation blinds. This room
is pure Asian in blue and white.🎈💕 The things in that room I have had for years. The things
are high end and I take care of all my little things. 💕

I am hoping your husband will be home soon. I can’t wait until that day comes.

Enjoy the day love ya. 😘😎🎈Oodie I hope you love your TS. 💕

Oz is alright today just cloudy with rain. Taci I did get some HD earrings during her visit.
I think HSN had a jet deliver them. LOL! The shipping was so fast! 🎈😎

      Spending Time in Nature

Because we instinctively know that nature is good for us on many levels, it’s not unusual to feel powerfully drawn to it.

In this modern age, we spend so much time indoors, focused on the busyness of our lives and disconnected from the earth. But much of what we truly need can only be found under the naked sky, alongside tall trees, on open plains, or in the sound of running water. Spending time in nature allows us to commune with other living beings and to find comfort in the nurturing embrace of Mother Earth. You can’t help but experience a different sense of self while walking in the woods or traversing a mountainside. Being in nature connects us to the Earth, grounding us as we walk, unhindered by concrete upon her. Surrounded by other living beings, both bigger and smaller than we are, we remember that human beings are simply one form of life in this vast universe.

Because we instinctively know that nature is good for us on many levels, it’s not unusual to feel powerfully drawn to it. Even if you live in a city or find it difficult to travel to a forest or the countryside, there are a myriad of ways to reconnect with nature. When you step out of your door each morning, pause for a minute and close your eyes long enough to let your senses absorb your surroundings. Listen and breathe deeply until you hear the wind rustling through branches, smell rain on damp grass, and see the reflection of leaves brushing up against windowpanes. If you have time, crouch down and closely examine any nearby grass and soil. The sights, sounds, smells, and sensations we experience that are part of nature can remind us of all the gifts Mother Earth grants us each day.

Spending time connecting with nature nourishes the soul, reminds you that you are never truly alone, and renews you by attuning you to the Earth’s natural rhythms. Taking a walk under the stars or feeling the wind on your face may be all it takes for you to reconnect with nature. Remember, you are as much a part of nature as are the leaves on a tree or the water bubbling in a brook.

Good afternoon to you. Easter was nice, church, brunch and back to mom’s for a while. Nothing fancy but a good day.🥰 Hope you had a wonderful one.

Getting together with friends tomorrow who we haven’t seen since late last summer. Having lunch, relaxing and catching up so that should be nice.😊 Stopping at mom’s after so it will be a full day. We are supposed to get some strong storms tomorrow so you know what that means – praying all trees remain standing!⛈🌳

Sheba, Will see if the ts bag will work for me. I think it might replace the bag I usually carry that is not a backpack. It needs to be squishy, take some kicking, and tossing. Last few flights couldn’t bend forward without hitting the seat in front of me so no chance of getting to the ground level without using my feet. Wish these planes didn’t take away all the leg room. Not very humane and then they wonder why people get reactive. I felt so bad for my husband that I gave him my seats on the long haul flights. Someone else gave up her aisle seat to a tall man whose knees were crammed in front of him. Not right.
I am going to try and guess that you got the Le Monde Cross earrings. My 2nd guess is the La Dolce large dangle earrings that seem to have been removed from the site. Sounds like they arrived quickly. Yay!

      Have a great evening!

      Pieces of Me
      Song by Ashlee Simpson

On a Monday, I am waiting
      Tuesday, I am fading
And by Wednesday, I can’t sleep
Then the phone rings, I hear you
And the darkness is a clear view
‘Cause you’ve come to rescue me
Fall, with you I fall so fast
I can hardly catch my breath
      I hope it lasts
Oh, it seems like I can finally
Rest my head on something real
I like the way that feels
Oh, it’s as if you know me better
      Than I ever knew myself
I love how you can tell
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me
      I am moody and messy
I get restless and it’s senseless
How you never seem to care
      When I’m angry, you listen
Make me happy, it’s your mission
And you won’t stop ’til I’m there
Fall, sometimes I fall so fast
When I hit that bottom crash
      You’re all I have
Oh, it seems like I can finally
Rest my head on something real
I like the way that feels
Oh, it’s as if you know me better
      Than I ever knew myself
I love how you can tell
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me
      How do you know?
      Everything I’m about to say
      Am I that obvious?
And if it’s written on my face
I hope it never goes away
      Yeah
On a Monday, I am waiting
And by Tuesday, I am fading
      Into your arms
      So I can breathe
Oh, it seems like I can finally
Rest my head on something real
I like the way that feels
Oh, it’s as if you know me better
      Than I ever knew myself
I love how you can tell
Oh, I love how you can tell
Oh, I love how you can tell
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me
All the pieces, pieces, pieces of me

Sheba, well those were the largest earring left and it was Easter that’s why I thought you bought them Yay. I’m assuming you already have something to match. Heidi does lovely crosses. Since I am not Christian or Catholic, no crosses for me. Still have 2 bracelets in NJ for the past 5 days. That’s ok though, no hurry. I was surprised someone already received the Samantha Brown ts. That’s pretty fast. Happy she left a good review.

      NATIONAL CHOCOLATE MOUSSE DAY

Every April 3rd National Chocolate Mousse Day recognizes the decadent dessert that gained popularity in France in the 1800s.

      Chocolate Mousse Day

Mousse is prepared by beating eggs or cream or both to a frothy, airy consistency and then folding the ingredients together to create a light, creamy delight.

While mousse can be either savory or sweet, for this day, we will focus on that all-time favorite, chocolate.

The words mousse and chocolate are derived from the French language, so it isn’t difficult to believe France is where to begin looking for the beginnings of this versatile creation. While we have no exact point in time when this might have been, we do know chocolate was introduced to the French around the year 1615, and they fell in love.

Then a century later, the French developed a method for making a mousse. Savory led the way, but it couldn’t have been long before the same approach was applied to chocolate.

In the United States, an advertisement in The Brooklyn Daily Eagle in 1887 included classes on how to make chocolate mousse offered by a Miss Parloa. She also advised how to make potato soup, larded grouse, potato timbale, and corn muffins.

From dark chocolate to milk chocolate, bittersweet, or any combination, there is plenty of variety when it comes to chocolate mousse.

      NATIONAL FILM SCORE DAY

On April 3rd, National Film Score Day recognizes the musical masterpieces called “Film Scores” and, more specifically, the very talented composers who create them.

As the opening scenes of a long-anticipated movie begin flickering across the screen, a rising cadence undulates through the theater setting the mood. A musical note plays, then two. Soon the theater fills with a beautifully layered orchestral music masterwork. This musical accompaniment to the film you are watching is called the “Film Score.”

Imagine your favorite film without a few well-placed notes enhancing the emotion of a dramatic on-screen exchange. Or a chase scene without rousing orchestral music elevating the intensity. Would Star Wars, Jaws, The Lord of the Rings films, or the Harry Potter films be the same without their complementary musical scores? Without the film score, would we cower so easily in fear from our seats? Would our imaginations so eagerly suspend from reality? Music heightens emotions. It also sharpens our senses and focuses our attention. Without a doubt, the film score is the fiery soul of a film.

      Keeping Our Minds Supple

Being open-minded means that we are willing to question everything, including those things we take for granted.

A lot of people feel threatened when they are questioned about their cherished beliefs or their perception of reality. Yet questioning is what keeps our minds supple and strong. Simply settling on one way of seeing things and refusing to be open to other possibilities makes the mind rigid and generally creates a restrictive and uncomfortable atmosphere. We all know someone who refuses to budge on one or more issues, and we may have our own sacred cows that could use a little prodding. Being open-minded means that we are willing to question everything, including those things we take for granted.

A willingness to question everything, even things we are sure we are right about, can shake us out of complacency and reinvigorate our minds, opening us up to understanding people and perspectives that were once alien to us. This alone is a good reason to remain inquisitive, no matter how much experience we have or how old we get. In the Zen tradition, this willingness to question is known as beginner’s mind, and it has a way of generating possibilities we couldn’t have seen from the point of view of knowing something with certainty. The willingness to question everything doesn’t necessarily mean we don’t believe in anything at all, and it doesn’t mean we have to question every single thing in the world every minute of the day. It just means that we are humble enough to acknowledge how little we actually know about the mysterious universe we call home.

Nearly every revolutionary change in the history of human progress came about because someone questioned some time-honored belief or tradition, and in doing so, it revealed a new truth, a new way of doing things, or a new standard for ethical and moral behavior. A commitment to staying open and inquisitive in our own individual lives can lead us to new personal revolutions and truths — truths that we will hopefully, for the sake of our growth, remain open to questioning. AMEN! 😎🎈

All trees are still standing, yay! But we had a lot of rain/storms⛈ and many parts of the city and suburbs have flooding. Temps falling and we will have snow showers through Saturday.🥶❄ I hope my irises survive. The deer already ate the tops off my lilies which didn’t even have buds yet, can’t win.😕

I did watch the game yesterday.🏒 I left the room since they were losing and a while later my husband informed me they were tied. Something lit a fire🔥 under their “you know whats” during the third period and they pulled out a good win.👍

Not sure if it’s just me and my computer or everyone but this site is going wonky again today. I had to sign in with that weird word press again??? Every day is a new experience.😣

I noticed the same thing in SB’s area. The TS was missing. It also did not appear on Monday’s list of sale items that go until Sunday. I’m hoping it was a computer glitch. I also liked the purse that aired just prior to midnight. I missed the presentation and checked again at 2 am and found that the video was still missing. I was able to watch later, however, the price jumped upwards and consequently I let it go bye bye. It’s in my favorites if ever it is marked down again. This was one time that the host mentioned you needed to buy prior to midnight. By the way, that purse is a bit smaller than the TS and would probably work better on trips. It is very similar to the TS and it goes over the handle to your luggage. I assume it would fold easily into the backpack.

I am not sure if I am ready to fly. I’ve been watching and reading about the mishaps, especially with Boeing. Right now I am happy that I have an excuse due to the Eustachian Tubes which could cause severe ear aches. Oh well, maybe someday I will change my mind.

I’m Ok. Yesterday was the first day I felt decent in weeks. I didn’t work at all and decided after seeing hubby to keep it that way. Got to bed at a decent hour for a change.

Hubby is doing good and asking to go for a ride with me. I think I will be able to accommodate him in the van when I get it. One of the back seats goes all the way down and I may be able, with a ramp, get the wheelchair in there. There is a lot going on at the moment. The dishwasher will be delivered Friday. Costco saved me $$$ on our choice. I brought all the info with me so he could help with the decision. Actually, he has helped with everything from day one. Just hasn’t been able to get home to give me the extra pair of hands I desperately need. One of the patient’s at the rehab told me to search Amazon for the items needed for the disabled. To think there is one place for almost everything.

I suspect my sinuses will be acting up today and I am prepared. Probably more than usual. We have high wind warning and expecting severe thunderstorms. I am hoping I will be at the Rehab before those storms hit. Temps will be in the 80s with high humidity as well. Great for the onset of whatever…… 🌴🚗😣

@oodiebom, you might want to check if some of the disabled items you need could be covered by your insurance with a doctor’s prescription. Also, if you Google “handicapped transportation” in the city you live in, you may find several transportation options. Good luck to you both!

I think I am ahead of you. Just recently I found that there are some rides to favorite places such as shopping, restaurants, barbers, etc.. Some are free. But at the moment I want to be the first one to take him out for a few hours. He has made progress. Enough to return home once everything is in place. Will be working with our insurance to see what they cover. Also found that some equipment at Amazon may be covered by insurance. Thank you for popping ib. Great to have people like you taking time from their busy schedules to offer advice and help.

      Don’t Phunk with My Heart
      Song by Black Eyed Peas

No, no, no, no, don’t phunk with my heart
      … Yeah
… No, no, no, no, don’t phunk with my heart
… I wonder if I take you home
Would you still be in love, baby (love, love)
      In love baby (love, love)
I wonder if I take you home
Would you still be in love, baby (love, love)
      In love baby (love, love)
… Girl, you know you got me, got me
With your pistol shot me, shot me
      And I’m here helplessly
In love and nothing can stop me
It can’t stop me once I started
Can’t return me once you bought it
I’m coming baby, don’t got it (don’t make me wait)
      So let’s be about it
      … No, no, no, no
      Don’t phunk with my heart
… Baby, have some trustin’, trustin’
When I come in lustin’, lustin’
Cause I’ll bring you that comfort
I ain’t only here cause I want your
Body, I want your mind too
      Interestin’s what I find you
And I’m interested in the long haul
      Come on girl (yee-haw)
… I wonder if I take you home
Would you still be in love, baby (love, love)
      In love baby (love, love)

      NATIONAL VITAMIN C DAY

National Vitamin C Day on April 4th each year shares all the ways vitamin C nurtures and benefits our health, inside and out!

While Vitamin C is widely recognized for warding off colds, the vitamin is also clinically proven to be a powerhouse in other areas of health, too. For example, Vitamin C may reduce blood pressure and potentially lower the risk of heart disease. Those at risk of gout can lower that risk by increasing their intake of Vitamin C.

Topically, Vitamin C keeps skin healthy by protecting it from oxidative damage caused by daily exposure to light, heat, and pollution. The popularity of topical vitamin C products has risen dramatically.

With the right product, adding Vitamin C to your beauty regimen can brighten your skin, reduce inflammation, and promote healthy collagen production. Vitamin C brightens just about any health routine.

      Beyond Counting Blessings

Our gratitude deepens when we begin to be thankful for being alive and living the life we are living.

Often when we practice being thankful, we go through the process of counting our blessings, acknowledging the wonderful people, things, and places that make up our reality. While it is fine to be grateful for the good fortune we have accumulated, true thankfulness stems from a powerful comprehension of the gift of simply being alive regardless of our circumstances. In this deep state of gratitude, we recognize the purity of the experience of being, in and of itself, and our thankfulness is part of our awareness that we are one with this great mystery that is life.

It is difficult for most of us to access this level of consciousness as we are very caught up in the ups and downs of our individual experiences in the world. But the thing to remember about the world is, it ebbs and flows, expands and contracts, gives and takes, and is by its very nature somewhat unreliable. If we only feel gratitude when it serves our desires, this is not true thankfulness. No one is exempt from the twists and turns of fate, which may, at any time, take the possessions, situations, and people we love away from us. Ironically, it is sometimes this kind of loss that awakens us to a thankfulness that goes deeper than just being grateful when things go our way. Illness and near-miss accidents also can serve as wake-up calls to the deeper realization that we are truly lucky to be alive.

We do not have to wait to be shaken to experience this state of being truly thankful for our lives. Tuning into our breath and making an effort to be fully present for a set period of time each day can do wonders for our ability to connect with true gratitude. We also can awaken ourselves with the intention to be more aware of the unconditional generosity of the life force that flows through us regardless of our circumstances. AMEN!

      @taci

I received two SB purchases. One was the wallet and the other a bottle carrier. The two pieces are beautifully made. Love the compartments. I was concerned that the compartments would be tight and not easy to use. I was wrong on both counts. My whole hand can get inside each area with ease. Not only that, but they are roomy. Cannot wait to hear how yours are. The TS is on it’s way.

Forgot to mention. The bottle holder is great, but does need something at the top so things don’t slide out. My other suggestion would be to add a way to keep the water cool while out and about. When able, I will write a review on both.

Sheba, hello. Hope your curb day went well. It’s much colder in Oz than here. What is JM?
Glad you enjoyed your luggage purchase and it has held up well. We transitioned to smaller, much smaller and much less for luggage. I use a backpack type pack with wheels for the carry on and will use the new ts backpack as my under the seat. No sets of luggage as it is too difficult with airlines, travels, flights changing, things getting lost etc..
The ts backpack arrived today. I am surprised since it was still in packaging a day ago.
It has completely disappeared off the website. Very odd.
I really like it and will post more under Oodie’s area since she also asked.

Thanks for the AL choco nuvo tip.
We are expecting some rain today still.
Not sure yet if I will watch the eclipse. Did see some glasses in the market for it.

      @taci,

Good evening you made me have a good chuckle today. LOL! JM is Joy Mangano.

I love your TS by SB and my SIL and brother travel all over Europe with their backpacks.

SIL is a pro when it comes to packing if can’t put it all in one bag it’s not going.
We have family in Dublin, Ireland and all she takes is a large backpack.

I tend to overpack and I have lived to regret it. I travel like a super star and it never
works out. I have learned how to pack. One luggage and one carryon that is it. ✨✨

I don’t see her luggage anymore but they were nice. Happy Trails when you do travel.

Oodie, Hello. Like Sheba, I am hoping your hubs can get home soon.
Your wallet and water bottle arrived quickly and glad you like them both. I like the idea of the water carrier but prefer back packs to shoulder carriers. I will think about it for a future purchase. Great idea to have it enclosed. Did you get the flowers color-way for all your items?
Much to my shock, the ts backpack arrived today. I think it will work well and I like the type of black, color and material. It’s the one no longer on the website.
The belt bag also arrived. It will work for traveling and the outer pocket will hopefully work for those train tickets/passes. It’s not too big or bulky. Yay! We both like our purchases.

      @Sheba

I didn’t visit hubby today. Expect delivery of the dishwasher early AM and thus back to KP.

I happened to be checking on a few things in Amazon and found something interesting for someone who has a knee problem. It’s a thing that enables the person to rest their knee on and it has wheels, thus enabling the person to do many things on the good leg. Kind of cute watching someone wash their kitchen floor as well as able to do other tasks as well. Not sure if hubby will be able to utilize something like this, but, again will bring it up to the Head Nurse. Oh, it also lets the person climb stairs on one leg by holding onto the banister. Once I check with the head nurse on some of these ideas will contact our insurance to see what they can cover.

I still have tons of work in the kitchen, but as of now, I can see the floor. One side of the counters are almost done. Now to move the stuff from the other side so the people will have no problem installing the new dishwasher.

I posted to Taci as well. Received the water bottle holder and the wallet. Both items are made very well. There are quite a few pockets and all enable you to put y our entire hand into the area. Plenty of room for passports, car keys , etc.. Speaking of car keys, I have the OK to take hubby out for a few hours. He won’t be able to get out of the car or van on his own, so it will be just a ride and maybe a stop for lunch where we can eat in the car by the beach or in our driveway. It will be wonderful to have this time together and I mentioned this to him yesterday He is so excited. I just hope and pray that my sinuses will be ok. I need to be at the Rehab around 10 AM and must have him back by 4 PM.. The time slot is to help me get him into and out of the vehicle with help from an aid or a physical therapist. This will be Step 1.. I would do it sooner, but the van is now ready and I will be picking it up on Monday. Tuesday I have the exterminator, which is necessary every three months to keep spiders, ants palmetto bugs, and others away. He also sprays outside for the fire ants.

Well, back to KP. Enjoy your evening and stay warm. Florida will now be in the low 70s during the day and between 55 and 60 at night.

      @Sheba 2011

I forgot to mention that I thought Passover started the weekend of March 29th. I was shocked when a family member mentioned it was towards the end of April. Always thought that the last supper was during that period. What a shocker!!!!!

I just had a bite to eat and now back to what I started. I did receive a package today from HSN, but I do not think it contains SB’s TS. And speaking of that, I wonder what happened to the TS. There are no pictures and nothing that states it sold out.

Like you, it felt good to get the recycle out along with the regular stuff. For some reason the house seems larger. I even have a few boxes to donate and still adding. By the way, I came across Wolfgang’s pots that was purchased a while ago. I couldn’t get over how well made they are and so similar to All Clad without the added expense. I think the next time he has the set, I just may purchase and bring the other ones North when we go.

Well, back to you know where……

Taci is so funny JM is Joy Mangano I brought a complete luggage set. Everyone loves
it when I travel my family especially.

else. I am feeding that cats I have trained them to eat one after the other and it’s was

National Walk Around Things Day on April 4th each year is a holiday open to interpretation. Very little information is available regarding this celebration, so we’ll give it our best to guide you through it.

This day may be looked at both figuratively and literally. Literally, one would not walk through a puddle of water or mud; one would walk around it. One would not walk under a ladder or over broken glass, one would walk around both.

Figuratively, one would “walk around” avoiding certain problems or potential problems. One would also “walk around” avoiding arguments, certain situations, or unwanted or uncomfortable conversations.

Another possible intent of this day could very well be to walk around things such as a neighborhood, park, or shopping mall. While we’re walking around we might also walk around obstacles or structures we come across during our stroll. We might find a fountain or swingset to walk around in a park. At the mall, benches and planters interrupt our easy stride. Of course, at home, we have all sorts of things that we walk around willingly. Sometimes the reason we walk around these items is pure avoidance like laundry or clutter. We might also walk around a sleeping pet.

On April 4th each year, National School Librarian Day recognizes the professionals who keep the school library in working order. School librarians spend long hours keeping the library organized. They are also dedicated to helping our children find the resources they need to keep learning. School librarians are the people who create an environment where students can learn every day of the year. Their work is an impressive accomplishment.

      NATIONAL CHICKEN CORDON BLEU DAY

Each year on April 4th, National Chicken Cordon Bleu Day celebrates a blue ribbon dish that combines chicken, ham, and cheese.

The French term Cordon Bleu translates to “Blue Ribbon.” This dish is a take on the popular Veal Cordon Bleu. It is a flattened chicken breast that is wrapped around ham (or sometimes prosciutto or Canadian bacon) and cheese such as Swiss or Gruyere. Toothpicks hold the chicken together before being dipped in an egg wash and breaded.

The earliest recipe we were able to find was in a March 1964 printing of the Cincinnati Enquirer by the Cincinnati Gourmet Stanley Demos. Despite some misconceptions, it is an American dish. Demos mentions in his column that he got the idea to try chicken instead of veal “to be different.” It has been a popular dish since.
