Good Afternoon in Florida. 😘💕I have been baking this morning. I made home-made
Pumpkin Pie for an elderly neighbor who lost his wife this year. Hubby and I both will
walk 2 doors from our house and give it to him and make sure he have Thanksgiving
food. I don’t know his plans but I know he will like this pie.

Oodie hubby is having a great day he took Poppy walking and have been very busy today.
I have been cooking and I will take a nice long walk today as we have sunny day. 😘😎

Here is to a great day to you and your hubby. 😘Oodie tomorrow is Trivia so rest up.

Sheba, you really do not need to thank me. This is what friends do for one another. I just wish you had told me sooner. If I lived near you, I would have been over to your home in a millisecond and stayed with you for as long as you liked. I can just imagine how difficult those hours were for you and not even able to see your hubby because of the virus. For your info, I am a night owl. I sometimes do not hit the sack before 3 or 4 in the morning and sometimes not before the sunrise. And, before going to bed I usually check your thread and mine.

It was a real quiet Thanksgiving Day. I spent part of the morning looking at computers so I can do face time with friends and family. I did pick one out and it is on sale. The only drawback it is more than I want to spend. I’ll think about it for the next day or two. Then I was ready to hop into a shower and discovered there was no hot water. I couldn’t understand why. Then I remembered why. There was a plumbing issue where the water was turned off because someone was dumping kerosene into the lake. Our lake is about 100 acres and is filled with carp, other types of fish, turtles, snakes, etc.. We have numerous birds that go after the fish and whatever else is in the lake and once in a while the spoonbill. Anyway, the plumber along with people from our county had to do something to the water to make it OK for birds and fish alike. Hubby turned the hot water off and forgot to turn it on. He was sound asleep, so I proceeded to get the turkey ready for the oven. When he awoke I mentioned what happened and he went out to check. Came back in and said he would go out tomorrow to get a new tank because we use propane. Hmm…….propane??? I wonder why when we leave here we turn the electrical off including the hot water. But he insisted. So, I went to the panel, and guess what—no propane. Electrical. I turned it on. We are now back in business. 💖😃😂😎

Your post tonight is heartfelt. 😘🌹 Oodie I did not know what to do that day.
I was stunned like so much this year I was trying to just survive the night.

All of us is carrying some kind of burden. I wanted so much to be in Colorado with my
family. This crazy virus has all of us just waiting to see when there will be a cure and it is
gone once and for all.

I had a good day the waves came with my father but I feel I did alright. My Step-Mom
and I talked. Hubby took her some of our meal. We are social distance because she
has had open heart surgery she is in her 70’s.

Sorry about the appliances in your home smart of you to check things out for yourself. 😎
Have you always been a night Owl? I always go to sleep after 11:00 p.m. Oodie if I don’t
I will be up all night. My husband only sleeps four hours a night. I sleep eight! I am up
early I work this thread into my day. 😘Oodie tomorrow is Trivia I almost forgot. I wonder
if it felt like Thanksgiving for everyone. I felt the thankful part. 💕

That was a good thing you did for your stepmom. I’m sure she is hurting as much as you. This year has been real tough on all of us in so many different ways. You, I think had the worse part and yet you went on as if nothing happened. Me, I would be a basket case. This is something that hubby and I have often spoke of. We would be so lost without the other. Everyday I pray that this dementia thing is just from Covid, but, realistically, I know deep down that there will be some good and bad days, though the last few weeks have been so great. His voice, which was very low is now back to normal. I wish I could say the same about my hearing. But, I am now saying I need help to hear someone at the door or to speak with friends while shopping. Now, I also must find a nose, ear and throat physician since the audiologist thinks there are other things going on. Who knows. Time will tell. I’m letting my fingers do the walking on line to find the right doctor.

I hope your neighbor enjoys the pie and whatever else you brought him. And to think it took at
pandemic to bring out the niceties in people. I just hope it continues when all is said and done. .

I would get your hearing checked by the ENT I have read Covid-19 can affect hearing
as well a lot of things in different people. Oodie I pray I never get that you knew what
to do I think you and your husband were very lucky.

I am stuffed like a turkey! Had a very nice day with mom and sis. I think a lot of people stayed home because there was no traffic on the roads. So thankful and blessed to still have mom at 90 years old. Mr. Jake had a bite of everything and went round the table to see who had what to give him. Then he was the dishwasher before the dishwasher.

There are a lot of things I can thank you for – your support, kindness, care, wisdom. You inspire positive energy and happiness with your daily posts. Time is the most precious thing in our life and those people who are willing to sacrifice their time for other people deserve respect and gratitude. That is you my friend and never forget it. I hope you, husband and Poppy had a blessed day.🙏💖

Thank you for your kind words and sentiment. It means so much to hear from friends like you and letting me know how your day went. You are so fortunate to have your mom all these many years. It must be nice for her to see you as a grownup, though it probably makes her feel a bit older. This brings to mind a magazine I enjoy reading from time to time. It’s called “Reminisce.” Some fascinating stories and history that go back to the 30s, 40s, etc.. Don’t get the subscription until you look at it first. Not everyone likes this magazine.

Sorry to hear what you and your husband went through. I’m just thankful that everything turned out OK for you and Sheba. Thank goodness for the advances in medical technology. Without that who knows what could have happened.

I also understand where you are coming from on gift giving. In that respect we are quite similar. I also do not like giving candy, cookies, parfume, etc. etc.. I only purchase what I like and would love to receive. I do not relish shopping for the sake of a gift. The stores I mentioned was not for that purpose but to give you a look see for ideas. This the time of year I enjoy shopping. Love the Christmas decorations as well as things to put into a kitchen theme. Candles are nice as well. I remember a couple of years ago I brought the candles that run on batteries to my neighbor. They were from Jeffrey Banks I believe on HSN. They change color and also come with a remote. They came in handy a few weeks later when the electricity went out for two or three days. In a sense they were better than a candle. No smell. The one place I miss is the Christmas Tree Shop where you can just walk around and enjoy the mood. A few years ago they had a sweatshirt bag with a State logo. It was a tote bag and great for shopping. At $9 each I found a few for Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Wisconsin, Boston, Michigan, to name a few. I gave so many away and kept the one that said Cape Cod for myself. I used it on a cruise and the stewards got a kick out of it. But, that’s just a thought. You never know what you will find in that store. Last year I gave the person that does my hair a mini barber chair and added a doll with long hair. I found both pieces on line.

Anyway, enough said. I made our turkey late this afternoon. Everything came out just right. Hubby mentioned that the turkey was the best. Hmm…. He says the nicest things…..😃 LOL.

I also have some of those flameless candles and they are very handy. I gave my SIL, neighbor and mail lady those a few years back. I found really pretty ones in Home Goods for my fireplace. They are three different lengths, I think 24, 30 and 36 inches that run from a remote with colors, flickers and solid flames. I rarely burn wood so they are a nice complement.

I ordered some Philosophy body wash, shampoo, bubble bath. Very useable, just hope they smell nice. Will probably add either a candle or some hand cream, which we all can use after this year with our hands like brillo pads.

Good Afternoon in Florida. I have finished my shopping and now I am chopping. 😘😘
Be safe out there I want you to enjoy Thanksgiving Day. I wish nothing but the best for
you and your husband. 🌹Oodie this is what I had to share with you almost a month
ago my 50 something 138 pounds of pure muscle husband had a heart attack.

Shoelady60 may have been on to something as she saw I had not finish the thread.
Hubby was at work and they called me I took a deep breath and raced to the hospital
to met him in the ER they would not let me be with him. Hubby just felt dizzy and the
EKG in the ambulance and in the world class hospital he was taken did not show a Heart
Attach only the blood work showed what was really happening. Hubby came out fine as
he did have a heart procedure he spent three days in the hospital. My husband have
never taken any kind of medicine in his life. Well superman was out driving a day after surgery
and went back to work in two weeks. Hubby works for a fortune 500 Company.

Oodie I did not share this because it seems there is always something. I am grateful my
hubby is doing fine all they put him on was two medicine for a year hubby was out doing
the yards and has lost none of his vigor. 😎😘 Oodie this was on a Thursday and they would
not let me stay with him the day of the surgery so I came and played Trivia with you which
was on a Friday. Hubby was released on a Saturday and we were out and driving that Sunday.

Now we both will have a nice Thanksgiving. 💕Oodie I never want to repeat that day.

Sheba, my heart goes out to you. Thank goodness your husband is strong and does exercise which is good for the heart and surrounding tissues and muscles. If he hadn’t been working in the yard or walking around who knows what could have happened. Maybe, now when you walk Poppy you should also walk hubby. I just wish you would have vented this sooner so we could have been there for you. Glad that the doctors and surgeons were able to repair the vessels and now he is feeling better than ever. The world of medicine is forever changing. Just think, less than 20 years ago this would not have been possible. You, the employees at work and the physician worked as a team and within 24-48 hours after he was able to walk out (Ok albeit, wheelchair ride) of the hospital and then driving around town. You really have something to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving Day.

We also went out for a bit to pick up last minute items. Could not wait to get back. Would you believe I couldn’t find my stuffing. There was none anywhere so I will be making mine from scratch which is OK. I will be making the turkey with all the fixings tomorrow just for the two of us. My entire family will be staying home as well. They are listening to the precautions. I was also surprised that there was very little traffic. Now I think I will rest up before tackling any jobs.

I share so much I was trying to give everyone a break from certain news. I have never
been so scared in my life and so were our children. Oodie what gets me is in the ER they
would not let me sit with him due to Covid-19. I had to go to a different floor with open
space and I sat there for seven hours. I talked to my husband on our Iphones. The children
and I FaceTime. Oh they had to run a Covid-19 Test on him before being admitted and
especially before the procedure. You are right about one thing this would not have been
possible 20 years ago. Oodie they did not cut my husband anywhere. The doctor’s did
everything through his wrist and that is why he recovered fast.

My husband is a Jock. Hubby can swim and dive, ride a high speed bike, skate backwards,
he is very agile and athletic he loves the outdoors. 😎I could not believe after surgery
they would not let me stay with him so I came home and played trivia with you. Oodie
seems like things always happen on Friday for me. I am thankful for this year as it has
taught me a lot. God never gives you more than you can bear. 😘😎🌹

Then I read some of your posts. Let me say how I am so happy to hear your husband is doing well and recovered. This must have been so difficult with everything else going on. Can we just say you’ve had a year.

I’ve been busy with an annual thing I help with and it’s almost done. My Mother said 4 people at her place have Covid now, up from 2.

Here’s to ringing in the new year and leaving 2020 behind.

Thank you for thinking of me. I held off talking about it because I was still grief-stricken
from losing my dad just two months earlier. One other thing my husband was very
close to his brother who passed three weeks before my dad and my dad and him were
very close. Everything is back to normal so I am moving forward. What a crazy year.

I wrote to Oodie and I am going to tell you last month my husband had a heart attack.
Hubby spent three days in the hospital with a heart procedure. Took 2 weeks off to enjoy
life. Hubby was driving and doing things a day after his release. We are thankful he
had no pain or shortness of breath. Everything turned out fine I was a mess. No one will
ever know what that was like and I hope they never do.

So I have a lot to be grateful for. I will miss my dad but I am moving forward.

You were absolutely right about something last month on this thread.
Remember the day you asked if something was wrong because I half finished
the thread. Well your instincts were kicking in. My husband had a Heart Attack on
that day and I had to leave. It was on a Thursday they would not let me stay with him
in the ER. I thank god we have a world class hospital near us. To make a long story
short hubby is doing fine after a heart procedure. I have say it was a lonely three days.
I did not know what to say to anyone I keep in touch with our children and our family.
I have a large family. 😘 I decided to share this once he was out of the woods and he is
doing great. This man weighs 138 pounds of pure muscles and hubby have a fantastic
body. This seems to be genic so some changes are in order. Hubby has been doing
yard work and than some plus he is a workaholic. In other words he needs to slow down.

Happy Thanksgiving I have my paper from the Breast Center and it is a joy and relief.

All I can say is what a year. I could not re-do this year ever!! I am so thankful to god for
everything and for all the support I have received from all the girls on this thread. 😘

Dear Sheba, it must have been intuition that day last month. Thank the Lord your husband is well and flourishing. I will tell you why I had that intuition and that we are sisters in crime and punishment!

I know exactly what you went through. Almost six years ago, my husband was getting intermittent chest pains. I made him see the PCP and she admitted him into the hospital for testing. Not much happened until they did a catherization. This was late afternoon and I was told it would take about an hour. After 20 minutes, the cath doctor came to see me in the waiting room, informed me that my husband had 90% blockage in his left main artery (the widowmaker) and that they wanted to do surgery now. I was told to call someone to be with me during this operation which really scared me. I felt like I was on an episode of ER or Grey’s Anatomy. They took me in this tiny room where about eight people/doctors were hooking lines and machines up to my husband and off we went to the OR. As we are walking through the halls, some guy had the nerve to ask me if I had any questions. I was so upset that all I could think of was how long is this going to take.

This was an evening surgery and it took about 2-1/2 hours. He had double bypass and the surgeon told me he was very lucky. If he would have had a heart attack at least half of his heart would have been dead. I was allowed to give him a kiss at about 10:00pm (he was still out) and left. Up all night paying bills, canceling a trip, sending emails to family/friends. It is amazing what you can get done at 4:00am with no interruptions!

I was so scared to go in the next morning – would he be moaning and groaning in pain, ashy, etc. He was sitting up in a chair and had already walked in the hallway. Like your husband, everyone was shocked and said not him, he’s in good shape. Thank goodness he was because he might have been dead but he kept his heart and body strong with exercise.

Sorry for this encyclopedia but I wanted you to know I completely understand your feelings and you and hubby have twins in the ‘burgh! Huge hugs and kisses to you both!!💕💗💖

I needed to hear this because that was my experience as well. The only difference
is they took things up his wrist. I was taken to a tiny room while they hooked him up
and they had a nurse stay with me because no one and I mean no one could come in
the hospital. I am thankful it only took over an hour to do and when he woke up he

Creating Connections While Apart

If you are apart from your family, you can decide upon a reminder together, and create a simple ceremony of connection that defies any distance.

Life’s journeys may sometimes take us away from our families and friends, but there are many ways to stay connected. Aside from making use of the technology available–speaking on the phone or seeing each other from across cyberspace–we can create simple ceremonies using nature and our own thoughts to connect our hearts across the miles.

The first step in creating your ceremony is to look to nature for similarities in the different surroundings. The second step is agreeing upon something that is meaningful to all involved. If your mother loves birds, then perhaps each time you hear a bird chirp, you can think of her and mentally send love. You may choose the sight of a butterfly, the feel of a breeze or raindrops, or the scent of flowers to remind you of a special someone. The pink glow of sunset might be your favorite time to send a thought, or perhaps the warming oranges of sunrise. We can all see the sun, the moon, and an array of twinkling stars when we look to the skies. The monthly full moon may be your time to connect with your loved ones, or the first star you see each night, knowing that they, too, are gazing into the night sky and sending love. You could choose a day that you would usually celebrate together, such as a holiday or a solstice. If you once shared Sunday brunches in the garden, you can each seek out a garden on Sundays. Or you can choose a specific time and account for the time difference in order to connect by heart and mind at exactly the same moment.

With practice, we may learn to recognize the feeling that comes when a loved one sends energy our way, and the feeling of soul-to-soul communication. In this case, distance may indeed make our connections stronger. There is certainly much to make us think of our close friends and loved ones often, but when we decide upon a reminder together, we create a simple ceremony of connection that defies any distance.

We went shopping today and will go again tomorrow. I will be making the turkey Thursday late morning. Today, for us, was like shopping in Lancaster, Pa.. Tons of food all prepared by the Amish here in Florida. I did purchase another Dragon fruit, plums and blueberries. Hubby also found a huge Avocado when getting the mail. I surmise it’s from our neighbors who have a tree in their backyard. I already mentioned to hubby that I will take the pit and plant it to see if we get anything. Also, as I mentioned before, would love the cacti that flowers into dragon fruit.

By the way, instead of baking the fruit with the turkey during the last five or ten minutes, I may do a stir fry and then pour it over the turkey for an additional flavor. it should make for a nice sauce. At least I hope it does.

We weren’t able to watch “Yentl” last night. Suffice to say we do have the DVD. And, I think we have at least three DVDs of the “Wizard of Oz,” which also includes the 50th Anniversary.

Glad you are including your stepmom. I hope she isn’t celebrating the holiday alone. And, as for Poppy, I’m sure he would love those bones as long as there is some meat on them. But be careful. Those bones are not as thick as a meat one. I would hate to see him swallow a sliver of the bone the wrong way. Please be careful. Dogs do not chew things as thoroughly as we do.

I received Heidi’s skier in the mail today. So cute. Reminds me of Vermont even to the colors. Guess I will need to find something to pin it on to, though I could wear it as a pendant.

Well, back to the doldrums.

Chilly here in the ‘burgh also. We will be getting your rain tomorrow. Been looking online today for Christmas gifts. I really, really don’t want to be in the stores. When I still worked, I had all my shopping done by November 1. I hate sitting in traffic, looking for a parking spot, rude, pushy people, etc. And now with the virus, who knows when/what/where for shopping. I do money/gift cards for family, friends and teens. But I’ve had the same mail lady and hair stylist for 20+ years and running out of ideas. May just go the nice bottle of wine/liquor – we all need that for the year it’s been!🍷🍾🍸

Taking pies and wine to mom’s. She ordered her turkey from a local restaurant to help support the business. I know we will have enough to serve 12, that’s how mom always does it!

No bones for Jake but I know he will get a bite of everything else. He will be in heaven just smelling it all!🐶💗

Here’s some suggestions for you. I know you hate to shop and look for a parking space and then stand in a long line to check out. But, if you belong to a Wholesale Club, they have some very nice things all wrapped and ready to go. For instance, we were in Costco over the weekend (and I dread shopping on the weekend), but we lucked out with a great parking spot and it was a hop, skip and a jump to their sliding doors (mall shopping). Anyway, I wanted a gift for the couple who managed to put our siding up a couple of weeks ago when Eta hit us. Towards the back of the warehouse they had a bunch of items gift wrapped in see through cellophane that was real cute. Many choice at different price points such as cookies and an assortment of candies (lindt, and other brands) and it all sat in a ceramic dish that could be reused. There were other things as well like cheeses and crackers. Then there was a time when I was marketing and the fruit looked awesome. Since I needed some for us, I picked up some separate items like plums, oranges, apples, etc. and then grapefruit in a bag along with pears, etc.. I just so happened to have a cute basket at home and made up a fresh fruit basket with cheese from Aldi’s. For shopping on-line, here’s where I go: Amazon, Bed,Bath& Beyond; Wayfair, Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Etsy, EBAY, just to name a few. Another place I have been looking at is ghoplc.com. On Tuesdays they have items that are $10 or less and I also think they do this another day during the week. If you spend $50 or more you get free shipping. So, if you are purchasing more than one thing, this could work. For your info, Bed, Bath & Beyond also has a good cosmetic area (over 6 aisles) and their prices are quite low. You will have to find one in your area that has this. Not all their stores carry cosmetics. I find their prices lower than Walmart. Hope these ideas help. Oh, yes, one more gift idea. Box of cookies covered in Belgian Chocolate—-YUM….. 😃💖

I appreciate all the suggestions and tips. I have done many baskets over the years from food, spa-like items, candles and household things. I try to stay away from personal things like perfume, makeup and jewelry as I have gotten those things and they have not been my style. Unless someone tells me exactly what they want, I buy gifts based on what I would want or could use. I never get seasonal gifts. At my age I don’t want something I use once a year. The hard part is changing it up year to year. I belong to Sam’s so I will probably stop there. Otherwise, I may go the soap/shower gel/lotion route online. Or the catch-all, non-personal wine. I also may stop in Hallmark since they are close to me and not in a mall. I have found some cute things there over the years.

Pushing Buttons

When somebody continues to open our old wounds on purpose, they must be told that their behavior is no longer welcome.

We’ve all had our buttons pushed to the point where we feel we can’t take it any more, and chances are, we’ve all pushed somebody else’s buttons, with or without knowing it. The button pusher may not be conscious of what they’re doing, but in the end the buttons belong to us, and we are the ones who must deal with what comes up. The more we take responsibility for our own feelings and reactions, the less tender these buttons will be.

We’ve all had the experience of having someone snap at us, seemingly out of nowhere. This happens when we unconsciously push a button in someone else we didn’t even know was there. This can happen with a complete stranger and sometimes with a person we’ve known and been close to for years. We ourselves may have a relationship with someone whose buttons we secretly like to push. Buttons are just soft spots that have been touched one too many times, and they symbolize some pain that needs to be acknowledged and healed. This may be a wound from childhood, or some recent trauma, that we haven’t adequately tended. Whatever the case, when our buttons get pushed, the person who most needs our attention and caring is us, and blaming the button pusher only distracts us from finding a true resolution to our suffering.
At the same time, if someone continually opens our wounds so that they never have time to heal, we are well within our rights to set a boundary with that person.

Compulsive button pushers, who seem to find pleasure or satisfaction in hurting us, are not welcome in our personal space. In the end, knowing where our buttons are enables us to do the work necessary to heal. Freedom comes when we deal with the pain behind the button, thus disconnecting our automatic reaction to being pushed.
