I am feeling much better. Had a migraine headache most of the day yesterday. It wasn’t until I took the allergy pills that I started to feel better. Fell asleep and when I awakened the headache was completely gone. However, it was too late to see hubs.
I did see hubs this evening. I was greeted with, and I quote, “where the h-ll were you yesterday???” “Why didn’t you call me???” I did call and left word with the receptionist, but she never forwarded the message to the RN.. There is no phone in hubs room and I refuse to leave the cell with him for fear someone would steal it. I am now home eating a shrimp cocktail as I type. When I left, hubs was still fully dressed and in his wheelchair. No aides were around. The weekend crew leaves a lot to be desired. If I can get an early start tomorrow, will be stopping at Costco to pick up their Christmas tin of Belgian chocolate cookies for the first shift.
Tomorrow we both meet with the owner of the Renovation project. This should be very interesting in that I never gave a go ahead to order the tile. They never asked if I wanted to place an order. Also, the contractor made it known that the glass door or partition would not work because of the thermostat being in the way. I did contact the business and spoke with the owner and he reiterated that we would have one. Not so sure anymore. Our appointment is for the afternoon. I will let you know the outcome.
It is getting cooler and I must turn the A/C off. Have a pleasant evening you three. Sweet dreams.

This is my second time trying to type a note. I was just about to end the post a few hours ago, and it vanished into thin air. Oh well, here we go again.
I finally made it to Costco yesterday afternoon. With the help of an employee I was able to find the “Something Special Red Chili Pepper Jam/Jelly. I purchased four jars and gave one to the receptionist at the Rehab who also likes things hot hot hot. I also picked up a lounge pant for hubby that should help keep him warm during our cooler days starting Monday. Back to the warmth of the 80s on Wednesday.
Hubs actually remembered our conversation from Friday. However, on Friday I did call the Renovation people asking if we could meet at the Rehab so hubby could be part of the conversation. I will let everyone know the outcome.
I did not see hubs today. After getting a load of laundry into the wash my head started to pound. I took my meds and it did not hit. I added sinus meds to the mix and I fell asleep. Awoke to no more headache but the sound of the phone ringing. It was the Rehab and my first thought was hubs. As it turned out they just needed some info in case anything happened. I just hope and pray that he is OK. This really concerned me and it gave me an awful feeling.

Also try baby powder with cornstarch. Sounds like your mom has started to heal. It’s just about a week ago that this happened. The itchiness, of course, is another form of pain.

Thank you for your nice note. I’m glad that your sister returned before any flights were cancelled and it was a good ride. My mom found that a pillow helped with the pain and movement. She actually took a pillow from the bed which was soft and more pliable than the ones you would use for a sofa. Yes, she also did it to her right hand, the one she used all the time. She slowly learned to use the other for writing and feeding herself. Also told her friends that she was now ambidextrous so they could continue their weekly games of Canasta and Maj Jong. Of course all that “ambi” went away almost as soon as the cast came off.
I think you will see a change in your mom when her friends begin calling and she finds things to do. This will ease her tension and the pain will lessen. In a few weeks when the swelling goes down, she will be able to do a few things with that hand. But, please watch the amount of pressure. After the cast is removed, she will probably need to wear something on that hand to prevent wrongful movement and over usage. Also, the physician may make appointments for physical therapy. Most importantly. you both should take care of yourselves as well.

Good Evening, or should I say good morning. I finally saw hubs after 3 days of email to and from the bathroom remodelers. After I cooled down enough I drove to see hubs. To say I am livid is an understatement. But after my tirade going through all that happened this week hubby’s expression made me laugh and hit the floor. I’m still laughing. I cannot say the 8 lettered word here but it starts with a B and ends with T. His other line was, “he must be a young kid not to call you after stating you didn’t want to work with him any longer to let you know that the items were ordered and now you need to pay a restock fee. Hubs wants to meet this person and I will try to see if he can make it to the rehab since there is no way for hubs to be home. Anyways, we have an appointment for Monday afternoon. This should be very interesting…….hmmm……….
There has been a big change in hubby. More pep. More sass. More himself. He is finally getting the food and vitamins he needs. Some of the dementia I have seen for almost a year is slowly going in another direction. Even the nurses and aids are noticing the change. I’m not sure if it’s medication or the slow weaning away from the puree foods. He is asking for pizza and not just any pizza. He wants either Hawaiian or Chicken Cordon Bleu. It’s so nice to see his humorous side again.
I hope you enjoyed the moon and the sisters tonight. We are having a showery event and this has been going on all day. We will also be cooling off beginning Monday. Temps during the day will be in the low 60s and nighttime in the 40s. However, like before, it will only last a few days and then it will be back to reality of 80s and 70s. The 40s here may be a warming trend for you, but for me it will feel more like the 20s. On this note I will say goodnight and sweet dreams to you three.

Today was not a good day for me. I have been trying to get someone else in here to redo the bathroom. However, when I asked the former contractor why I had not received a refund it was because something had been ordered and now there will be a restocking fee. This is not the way to do business and that is because there is no supervision between management and the workforce. So for two days it has been an email back and forth kind of thing. I may need to contact an attorney on this thing. Luckily, I have tons of emails.
I never made it to the Farmer’s Market yesterday or today. They had a two day sale, but a market that is closer has a weekly sale with the same items as the Farmer’s with a lower price. This market also has turkey breasts on sale with the bones. This means turkey soup for hubs. I also need to make a stop at Costco. They usually carry “Something Special Red Chili Peppers” in one of their refrigerated areas. I did contact the company and Costco is good to go. This jar is like jelly. However, it has a good spike to it and can be used for other things. I sometimes marinate chicken, beef, fish or lamb with this jelly. It makes everything taste good. No other spices are really needed with it, but I do add a few. And of course I need a couple of cases of water.
Hope you three have a great evening. I will miss seeing the moon.

I didn’t break a bone, but did crack the ankle bone when I was about 8 or 9 years old. At that time I was riding a horse who got spooked and galloped around the ring. I could not keep up with him and as I fell, my ankle got stuck in the stirrup. That pain was unbelievable. Years later I discovered that though the bone wasn’t broken, part of it cracked and never healed the way it should. The only way to repair it is to break it and redo. No thank you. All I can say is that the pain is awful. I remember when my mom broke her wrist. The first week and a half were awful. Moving the fingers, torment. Then three weeks later, the itches. So intense she took the edge of a hanger to rub the inside of the cast. She, also, tried to remove the cast. Dad, being a pharmacist, contacted the orthopedist , and she took something for the pain. At least in those days there was something to take the edge off. You should do the same. When her fingers start changing to pink from purple, that you will tell you she is beginning to heal. The cast is on for a purrpose and it may be tight, but in a week or so, it will look larger as the swelling subsides. The pain also will gradually diminish. Because of her age, I hope the physician ordered a home health aide to help her as well as a nurse to check on her at least once per week. This should give you some time for yourself to market and give you some relief. You should check with her health insurance company as well to see what is available. You shouldn’t be doing this on your own.

I forgot to mention that it may be a good idea for you and your hubby to have the shingle shot. Shingles are actually the same virus that we get as children called chickenpox. The itch goes right through your body. Try to remind your neighbor and his daughter that extra warm showers are not a good idea. The itch also leads to horrible pain. My mom went through this and I had a nurse come in everyday to check on her and to put a salve on the area. This gave her some relief. The nurse also returned later in the day to watch her shower and then gave her meds to help her sleep and also used a cream on the area. My mom was lucky in that it was localized in one area on her back. She also had homemakers that were there to prepare meals and to clean. The episode lasts at least 6 weeks. The shot doesn’t prevent it. It just makes it easier to get through and in most cases it is mild.

I hope and pray that your mom is feeling better and the pain is easier to bear. Just remind her to move her fingers so the area gets the circulation it needs. Hopefully, things will be easier when your sister returns. Hope the events of today were OK. Please try to get some rest. Take care of yourself. By the way, that little animal from Sheba saying get well soon is too cute. It put a smile on my face. I hope it will do the same for your mom.
