PROPOSITION 65 IN CALIFORNIA

  • lucy1354
  • 01.10.24 10:00 PM

I TRIED TO ORDER THE Curtis Stone 6-piece Dura-Pan+ Nesting Saucepan Set and could not order it. “Cannot be shipped to my address”. Called Customer Service and they told me the reason. All this time I’ve ordered products from Curtis Stone, not anymore. Good old Prop 65, we should be the ones to decide what we want to order.

Gotta love all the fruits and nuts in CA, which of course can’t be chopped in the CS chopper. Oh wait, I can chop them in my State. BTW, are plastic water bottles, plastic milk jugs, plastic fruit juice bottles, plastic yogurt cups, and any other food products stored in plastic also banned? Because any food product in a plastic container can cause microscopic particles of plastic to get in your blood stream and end up in artery plaques. Google it.

      • dvard
      • 03.14.24 8:35 PM

No because it is stored in a food safe recyclable plastic. It is not all plastics. I believe that the need for putting it in food prep items , especially ones that involve cutting and fixing is that small pieces might break off and be in your food. The type of plastic used in the chopper, 3 kinds, is so different from the ones that liquid is sold in is laughable to compare them. Did you know that thanks to California, the BPA plastic that used to coat the inside of most canned items has been eliminated. from many food items.. If you know someone who has been struggling with infertility, maybe a lifetime of drinking canned soda may be the answer. BPA is on the Proposition 65 list because it may harm the developing baby, and it may harm the female reproductive system, including the ovaries and eggs.

      • justwanthelp
      • 03.14.24 8:46 PM

@dvard , plastic is a petroleum product, which is on the prop 65 list.

I have to laugh at the number of people blaming Curtis for this, when Prop 65 was passed by California residents.

I don’t have any of his cookware, but I seriously considered the chopper, though I ended up not getting it. I might in the future when sold out colors return, but I won’t have to worry because in my state, *we* decide which purchases to make.

Curtis must have got the message. For those of us that live in California we can now order the Chop Chop

    • justme58
    • 03.13.24 1:35 AM

I also ordered the Chop Chop to replace my original one which is 10 years old . Also ordered some for gifts. Like others I contacted HSN and told it was due to prop 65. If Curtis has decided not to put the labels on boxes, I may just have to take my shopping elsewhere. Thousands of dollars in sales lost due to this, makes no sense

    • dvard
    • 03.12.24 12:45 PM

Is California wrong to require warning labels. Apparently not. This was in the news yesterday FDA to Finally Outlaw Soda Ingredient Prohibited Around The World . By the way, this was already banned in one state- California..

    • BeeBee27
    • 03.12.24 4:06 AM

I have a question. If there are harmful materials in the Chop Chop product, shouldn’t there be warning labels for ALL consumers, whether they live in CA or CO? I tried to order 3 of these as gifts and my order was declined. I have been purchasing his products for years (plastic included) and never had an issue. I wonder if there is someone in this particular product that should be of concern. For that reason, nothing was mentioned about excluding certain states during the presentation, as I’m sure that would have impacted their sales nationwide.

    • 03.11.24 9:14 PM

Apparently the moderators have altered my post in reply to ladybug, claiming that illegals are sucking up all of CA resources, I responded, moderators altered my post so that it now makes no sense. I wish they would have just deleted my post as opposed to just taking out a word that they didn’t like. I must point out that the word they removed from my post was ” ” ( same wording used by ladybug). I am surprised that they didn’t remove her post as it was offensive to all who do not harbor such racist views.

    • tinar
    • 03.11.24 6:03 AM

It is appears that the moderator deleted my previous comment (maybe because it could have helped others). I’m having the chopper mailed to my daughter in IL who will mail it to me in CA. If you have a friend/relatives who lives outside of CA or CO, perhaps they can mail to you. Yes, it’s a hassle but another way to get the chopper if you really want it.

I wonder if Curtis is aware of all of this – that he is missing sales in all of CA and CO because of the sticker requirement for his products that need the warning stickers. I’m sure as a businessman wanting to sell more products, he should be doing something immediately to rectify this issue.

      • Ladybug22
      • 03.13.24 7:09 PM

I wondered the same thing, especially since he was broadcasting FROM California. How could he NOT be aware of the sales he would be missing. Oh well, guessing I can live without this product afterall. This is not the first time a product as been restricted from California due to Prop 65. I don’t recall that we were allowed to vote on this issue when it was introduced. I’m sure the patient CS representatives grew weary of answering the same question over and over.

      • dvard
      • 03.14.24 9:06 AM

Maybe you forgot that Propositions are not from the legislature, but voted on by the people. Maybe you do not vote or could not vote when it passed. Proposition 65 became law in November 1986, when California voters approved it by a 63-37 percent margin. The official name of Proposition 65 is the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. The reason it probably requires a sticker is because it is used in food prep and made of 3 different plastics. Since cutting and preparing of food is how it is used, small pieces of plastic may wind up in your food. My guess is one or all of those plastics are not good to ingest.

    • 03.11.24 12:20 AM

I have first hand knowledge on this from working with a led bulb manufacturer. They no longer ship to CA. (Not sure about CO) More venders (not just on shopping channels) are deciding to just not ship to CA and sometimes CO. There is a cost involved in those stickers, but more the reason it generates 100’s of calls from buyers after they get the item in all the other States where none of that applies.

    • LOOZMOM
    • 03.10.24 6:15 PM

CA is ridiculous with their warning labels. Who even reads them; they are on everything. It is because it is the sue-me state and they have to cover themselves. I just wish (and I’m sure CS wishes, too) that they would state in their presentations or have it on screen that an item can’t be shipped to a certain state.
It has to be costing him. I tried to order the chopper but had other items in my basket, too. Since I couldn’t get the chopper I canceled the other items since I was on the fence about them anyway.

Colorado has the same requirements and they won’t ship there either. Just put the label on it.

      • rfuhrman
      • 03.10.24 3:01 PM

Just found Colorado out too. I wonder if it is all plastics or pfoas too? I didn’t know this happened, only the disposable bags.

      • dvard
      • 03.10.24 3:53 PM

Again it can be sold but it requires a small warning label. Apparently they refuse to put the label on. The label can be put on the outside of the box it comes in. Same label appears. On the outside of brick and mortar stores. The label is not very big. Look up Prop 65 label.

    • RamonaJoy
    • 03.10.24 5:45 AM

I just know did the exact same thing. I ordered curtis stones new chopper and they said they could not deliver. I called customer service and they said they cannot deliver this to california because the prop 65. I have tons of Curtis Stone things. But I am assuming this just happened in this year two thousand fourteen. Ridiculous.

      • dvard
      • 03.10.24 5:58 AM

Do you understand Prop 65. It does not say it cannot be sold. It just has to have a warning label that it may contain materials that have been thought to cause cancer or birth defects. Apparently they are too lazy to label the box.

    • dvard
    • 01.10.24 11:10 PM

Not true. I get CS things all the time.

      • Ladybug22
      • 03.10.24 6:01 AM

Hey dvard… It absolutely IS true. I just tried to order the Today Special Chop Chop thingamabob and was denied the purchase because Cannot ship to California. I too, have several Curtis Stone items and enjoy using them. I was under the impression he was broadcasting from Southern Ca this evening, so… nope nope. cannot order this product. What a crock. California is a Nanny state for sure. We must conform to our lunatic laws here, but crime and criminals run rampant. Not to mention all the ILLEGALS sucking up our resources. GAHHHHH.

      • LIZZI
      • 03.11.24 9:04 PM

Don’t know about “illegals” sucking up all resources, but I am quite sure you as a human being.
You say that you must confirm to California’s “lunatic” laws,
not so as it’s a free country,
you can MOVE to somewhere where there are more individuals who share your views.

      • Ladybug22
      • 03.13.24 7:21 PM

Hello Ms Lizzi. I should not have to move because I’d like to purchase a little plastic kitchen gadget. BTW, if YOU haven’t moved lately, be informed that it costs several thousand dollars to “relocate”, and that’s not exactly in the budget right now. Thanks for your keen suggestion though. Too bad you’re triggerd by ILLEGAL though. I’m completely in favor of Legal immigration . Most rational people are.
Bottom line to this thread, HSN/Curtis Stone might need to consider adding the little label to their products if they want more sales.
Thanks Dvard, for the information to clarify the problem.

      • rfuhrman
      • 03.10.24 3:01 PM

      True!

      • dvard
      • 03.10.24 6:16 AM

I just looked at what the chopper is made of . Four different plastics and it is a food prep item. Bet that is what triggered the warning label that they apparently do not want to put on the box.

      • dvard
      • 03.10.24 6:07 AM

Did you read what I wrote. It can be sold. It just has to have the warning label.Apparently he is too lazy to put the new label on it. Read what Prop 65 says. It just requires that warning label.
