Cast Iron Pans
If a cast iron pan has a non-stick coasting, can it really offer the benefits of cast iron?

Yes. I bought the HQ 9 inch non-stick braiser. Nothing sticks and it cooks the same as cast iron. I used the pan today to sear meat. I even used the bits in the crockpot similar to Dutch oven cooking.

I agree with you, mndreamer. If the pan has a coating, then you’re frying on the coating which is covering the cast iron. Same difference if the pan is aluminum with a non-stick coating. You’re frying on the same coating as the cast iron.
But, cynsterwytche, you’re right. nonstick coating is convenient and saves clean-up time.
Thanks to both of you.

i was always wondering that too. i never get an answer. i wouldn’t think you get the extra iron benefit because of the coating. that is the one thing i don’t like about the cast iron being coated.

Yes. I bought mine several years ago on QVC and we love them. They cook just like uncoated except without the mess. If the quality is the same I recommend them.
