UPS VS USP
I do not understand all my packages coming USPS. The UPS truck goes by my house everyday but I get my stuff via USPS. First of all, this delays my delivery by at least one day and sometimes up to three days. I have an elderly mailman that has to traverse my long driveway to get it to my front door (when they don’t fit the mail box) and he has to deliver things that are large and heavy and obviously inconvenient to fit in his mailtruck. This also is happening with QVC orders.

There is a vast difference in quality of service between rural and urban no matter the carrier. However USPS used to have more processing centers. They consolidated them into fewer major hubs. Waco was the major processing center in our area and that was changed 10 years ago making rural delivery more complicated and have longer delivery times.
As an example, a letter from us to our nextdoor neighbor would go from our home 30 miles to a tiny little one room US post office in a town that has fewer than 300 total population. Then it would be sent to regional Waco post office 70 miles south. Then it’s sent the opposite direction, north, past our home & tiny post office to major DFW hub over 150 miles away. On the return for delivery to our nextdoor neighbor, the letter would again go over a 150 miles past us and tiny post office to the Waco post office then make 60 mile return north bound to tiny little post office for the rural carrier to pick up letter and deliver to us 30 miles away.

I had to ask UPS to deliver my packages to a third party (Michael’s Craft Store) so I will actually receive them. Porch pirates? Nope. UPS employees noting the package was delivered but they NEVER showed up.
Even though I have requested ALL my packages be routed to Michael”s, UPS still decides to deliver some, and some go to USPS (which I know I will receive).
I am now getting notices from HSN saying they are going to charge me TWICE for items I never received from UPS, reported to UPS and HSN as never received, and although HSN SAID they were resending, they never did. Honestly. I got tired of asking about the items so I didn’t (there were 4 or 5 orders with multiple items on the same tracking number- some got replaced, three did not, whether they were missed or whatever). These are the items HSN says I have to send back or get charged twice. Hard to send something back that you never received. They can check that there was no second order sent.
So be careful when you get packages pirated or UPS lifted that you aren’t messed over when UPS tries to cover their tracks by lying. It’s not the company. It’s shady employees. All this happened with the holiday temp employees.

USPS results in 2 day delay for us too and boxes are usually smashed, left out on street, etc. Unfortunately the only way around that is to pay for expedited shipping. But that’s difficult because the carrier info is not identified until after you’ve already paid for the item.
My major complaint is that the USPS is a very inefficient system that thinks of itself as a government entity which is not. However taxpayers are required to pay for the incredible health and retirement benefits USPS employees receive, similar to what our elected officials receive, as though it is a government agency. A person with minimal skills, education, and responsibilties receives better benefits than professionals who have exceptional skills, advanced education, and management level responsibilities.
And every package that I’ve ever had “lost in the mail” has been with USPS. To this date USPS can never seem to find mail, packages, etc despite the billions of taxpayer dollars the government gives USPS. FedEx and UPS has been able to identify and track every step along the way for 20+ years.
For the above reasons I NEVER support USPS unless there is no other choice and many times if there is no choice, I do not support the company and find another carrying the product I want to buy that does offer me a choice.

Please allow me to correct a few misconceptions. The USPS does not receive federal funds. It is a separate entity and is self supporting despite Congress stealing billions from them to supposedly fund future healthcare premiums for retirees. (As soon as they stopped they declared retirees would all be required to go on Medicare. With no accounting for the at least trillions they siphoned from us) Our benefits are not free. We co pay. I pay $739/month copay for 2 people as a retiree. As for the workers being uneducated. Yes some are. But I can assure you that I worked alongside many who had college degrees, many of them advanced. It was simply a matter of pay. We paid more than any jobs they could find and the advancement opportunities were more plentiful.
The pay and hours they offer today are ridiculous which why you see workers who could care less. They do not guarantee you hours. The schedule changes daily. And most workers you see don’t qualify for the benefits. But they have a whole list of ridiculous requirements they expect you to meet. And don’t get me started on the danger. You may never see it but every Postal employee has.
As for UPS. Stop blaming USPS. UPS is too lazy to deliver to you so they pay the USPS to do it for them. They bring their packages to our offices and then wave goodbye. They couldn’t care less if we deliver or throw them in a river. They take the money and wash their very dirty hands.

That has been happening for a long time now. Same here, UPS comes into my neighborhood every single day. But before they can deliver its transferred to the Postal Service, which delays delivery. And gets placed into mailbox if it fits, and if not they have to deliver it. Mostly it’s place into a larger box which a key is used to obtain it. However sometimes the Postal person places it in the incorrect box, that belongs to someone else. Items that I order from other vendors that comes via UPS , I have no problems with.
