Read the fine print for this disaster on top of Shipping
This just killed buying from HSN for me! $5.95 plus tax added $9 to a Beekman item? What are they trying to accomplish with this debacle? Did you see this disclosure on the order screen before you check out?
“At HSN we offer an open 24 hour cart each day. The benefits of an open 24 hour cart include the ability to easily cancel orders at any time during the 24 hour period, and the ability to qualify for the Free Shipping Promotion on applicable qualified items.
We place a temporary authorization hold for each item added to your cart during each 24 hour period plus $5.95 per item which may be a higher amount than your estimated order total. This difference accounts for potential changes in the final charges due to additions or cancellations that you may make during the day until 12:01AM ET. We release the authorization within 7 days of the day of purchase. It can then take up to 30 days for the pending authorization to drop, depending on your bank.
After you place an order with HSN, we authorize the full amount (including $5.95 shipping and handling charges and tax) for each item, on your credit or debit card at the time of purchase before any shipping promotion discounts are applied. The available funds for spending with the card will be subject to a hold equal to this authorized total amount. We settle with your financial institution within 7 days of the day of purchase at which point the applicable shipping promotion discount is applied and the authorization hold on your credit or debit card is released by HSN. But please note that, depending on your bank or financial institution, it may take up to 30 days for them to reconcile the authorized hold amount and charged amount on your card. If using a debit card for your purchase, please plan accordingly.”
This is not okay!!

I am not quite understanding the policy. If I put one thing in my cart and then remove it within the 24 HR period hsn can charge me $5.95 for shipping and then later refund it? That does not make any sense and I would question the legality of that policy.

its hsns CEO who makes all the decisions. he or she tells them what to charge. and curate atcthis point hsn needs to fire both and look for another CEO but it’s curate whos killing hsn. if hsn cant get rid of curate and there CEO’ then hsn is done. if you go to complaints against hsn in consumer affairs, you’ll see a few former hsn employees who will tell the “” they have to deal with. it’s a pretty ugly picture. i once read thst it was filthy before mindy grosmen former CEO who left to run nikey sneakers bought all new furniture, tried to clean up the filth but then saw the writing on the wall. we all missed her when she left hsn after she turned hsn around. mindy did a great job and now hsn is going down the tolit. what a shame. hsn should’ve stood up and fought off curate taking over. it may be too late now.

That doesn’t make sense! Is it written poorly? I could see them charging your card for all items purchased within the 24-hour period but not items just put into the cart. That being said, I am also buying less – I applaud the $75 and up free shipping and the combined shipping but the single item shipping should not have been eliminated.

Thanks for posting this. I had read it too quickly to fully understand just how much HSN is now using this new policy to hold onto customers’ money even before an item is purchased. This is upsetting and I will no longer place items I might buy into my cart until I decide I definitely want to purchase. HSN is trying to sell this new policy as benefitting customers; for most of us it is going to discourage us from many unneeded purchases – which might be a good thing for me!

Thanks. I had not noticed the fine print. It isn’t unusual for me to have items in my cart.
I used tp love shopping at HSN but with the changes is shipping costs, no return labels, and other negatives, I will start exercising more restraint in my choices.

Indeed. I mentioned this in another thread. I’m not sure WHY they did this on order OVER $75 when they did NOT prior to the new policy going into affect. It MUST be about making money in some way, especially if it involves the HSN card. I really don’t see the logic in it. People are going to look at their statements over the next few weeks and wonder WHERE ALL THESE CHARGES came from! Not to mention it will eat up your the balance of your checking account if using a debit card!!
