Read the fine print for this disaster on top of Shipping
This just killed buying from HSN for me! $5.95 plus tax added $9 to a Beekman item? What are they trying to accomplish with this debacle? Did you see this disclosure on the order screen before you check out?
“At HSN we offer an open 24 hour cart each day. The benefits of an open 24 hour cart include the ability to easily cancel orders at any time during the 24 hour period, and the ability to qualify for the Free Shipping Promotion on applicable qualified items.
We place a temporary authorization hold for each item added to your cart during each 24 hour period plus $5.95 per item which may be a higher amount than your estimated order total. This difference accounts for potential changes in the final charges due to additions or cancellations that you may make during the day until 12:01AM ET. We release the authorization within 7 days of the day of purchase. It can then take up to 30 days for the pending authorization to drop, depending on your bank.
After you place an order with HSN, we authorize the full amount (including $5.95 shipping and handling charges and tax) for each item, on your credit or debit card at the time of purchase before any shipping promotion discounts are applied. The available funds for spending with the card will be subject to a hold equal to this authorized total amount. We settle with your financial institution within 7 days of the day of purchase at which point the applicable shipping promotion discount is applied and the authorization hold on your credit or debit card is released by HSN. But please note that, depending on your bank or financial institution, it may take up to 30 days for them to reconcile the authorized hold amount and charged amount on your card. If using a debit card for your purchase, please plan accordingly.”
This is not okay!!

Indeed. I mentioned this in another thread. I’m not sure WHY they did this on order OVER $75 when they did NOT prior to the new policy going into affect. It MUST be about making money in some way, especially if it involves the HSN card. I really don’t see the logic in it. People are going to look at their statements over the next few weeks and wonder WHERE ALL THESE CHARGES came from! Not to mention it will eat up your the balance of your checking account if using a debit card!!
-
Thanks for posting this. I had read it too quickly to fully understand just how much HSN is now using this new policy to hold onto customers’ money even before an item is purchased. This is upsetting and I will no longer place items I might buy into my cart until I decide I definitely want to purchase. HSN is trying to sell this new policy as benefitting customers; for most of us it is going to discourage us from many unneeded purchases – which might be a good thing for me!
-
Thanks. I had not noticed the fine print. It isn’t unusual for me to have items in my cart.
I used tp love shopping at HSN but with the changes is shipping costs, no return labels, and other negatives, I will start exercising more restraint in my choices.

That doesn’t make sense! Is it written poorly? I could see them charging your card for all items purchased within the 24-hour period but not items just put into the cart. That being said, I am also buying less – I applaud the $75 and up free shipping and the combined shipping but the single item shipping should not have been eliminated.
-
I am not quite understanding the policy. If I put one thing in my cart and then remove it within the 24 HR period hsn can charge me $5.95 for shipping and then later refund it? That does not make any sense and I would question the legality of that policy.

its hsns CEO who makes all the decisions. he or she tells them what to charge. and curate atcthis point hsn needs to fire both and look for another CEO but it’s curate whos killing hsn. if hsn cant get rid of curate and there CEO’ then hsn is done. if you go to complaints against hsn in consumer affairs, you’ll see a few former hsn employees who will tell the “” they have to deal with. it’s a pretty ugly picture. i once read thst it was filthy before mindy grosmen former CEO who left to run nikey sneakers bought all new furniture, tried to clean up the filth but then saw the writing on the wall. we all missed her when she left hsn after she turned hsn around. mindy did a great job and now hsn is going down the tolit. what a shame. hsn should’ve stood up and fought off curate taking over. it may be too late now.

I find it illegal to charge for shipping if it is just in your cart. That makes no sense. I could see if you actually purchased something.
-
Most people are not going to find out about this policy until they order something and notice suspicious charges on their HSN/credit/debit cards. Then HSN will tell them to read the new policy. When I found out you are charged if something is left in your cart, I immediately emptied my cart. I will no longer leave anything in the cart. I rarely buy from HSN anymore and this new policy just makes me think twice about buying from HSN.

We apologize for the confusion caused by the credit/debit card authorization details. We’ve updated our shipping and handling promotional disclaimers to provide clarity. We want to assure you that we do not charge or place a temporary authorization hold on items you add to your cart.
After you place an order with HSN, we temporarily authorize the full amount (including $5.95 shipping and handling charges and tax) for each item, on your credit or debit card at the time of purchase before any shipping promotion discounts are applied, which may be a higher amount than your order total.
If you have additional questions, please contact Customer Service for assistance.

Kyle, thanks for the clarification of charges for items in shopping cart. What happens if an item in my auto delivery items has free shipping and autoship pricing? Will I initially be charged regular price and $5.95 on my credit card rather than the autoship pricing? That could involve a good deal of extra charges to me if it hits my credit card at the wrong time.

That’s not the concern. The cincern is this: After you place an order with HSN, we authorize the full amount (including $5.95 shipping and handling charges and tax) for each item, on your credit or debit card at the time of purchase before any shipping promotion discounts are applied. The available funds for spending with the card will be subject to a hold equal to this authorized total amount.”
So my entire order amount – not just the 1st flex pay + tax & s/h – is held against my credit card or debit card balance?-

I quit QVC many, many months ago because of their lack of customer service and just plain devious business practices. I will NOT order from them ever again! Right now I’m waiting on one item from HSN to ship, purchased prior to all this devious shipping practices and then I am finished with HSN too. I’m not sure what they are trying to accomplish by this new shipping protocol. What they’ve accomplished from me is loss of a customer.
-
For me bottom line is this, I will no longer be ordering from HSN, I order mostly Beauty and items that always carried free shipping, and I usually order one item at a time, therefore this new 5.95 idea is not going to work for me ,no way, no how, been an HSN customer for 28 years, and sorry to say goodbye.
-
My answer is is that I will shop locally. Now that I’m on Roku only, I can delete HSN and QVC so I won’t be tempted. I’ve had enough of their nonsense.
-
I am emptying my cart!!!! By the way the Prai ageless day & night cream that’s $19.99 on HSN plus the $5.95 is available elsewhere. I ordered mine today. $21.60 & free shipping to store. I have often found items on HSN that I can get a better deal on.
-
just about everything on hsnnwe all can buy in our local stores.

I guess I’m done with HSN due to this new shipping policy. I rarely buy more than one item per day and mostly things like Beekman products which used to be free shipping that will now have $5.95 shipping. I understand HSN’s thought process but honestly I can see a lot of issues and follow up on my part being needed when the shipping charges don’t “drop off” the way they are supposed to. It’s a shame, I think you will lose a lot of good, loyal customers. Good luck to those who stick around. I think you’ll need it.
-
I agree with you; they killed it for me too as far as buying from them. Almost $6 for shipping, and for one (1) item. I’m done with HSN and their foolishness.
-
HSN is going to be losing a whole lot of customers, including me. I’ll hang on with QVC until I become tired of them and their foolishness, and then I’ll move on.
-
It’s Curate. They’ll sink QVC and do the same to HSN unless someone steps in and saves them. I used to love QVC. Now, I rarely order. I thought I had HSN to fall back on. Not anymore, as of today, goodbye.
And to the poster who said that most HSN items can be found locally , not everywhere. Lots of rural places like where I live offer little to choose from. My closet will be shrinking for sure.

I agree . HSN flex pay is no longer flex pay. They now authorize full amount of purchase rather than the first flex pay and hold this full authorization for 7 days which means this is money going into their pockets. Even if and when they release the hold It seems they are accruing interest on money of yours being held by them. Seems HSN is losing customers right and left with this policy.
-
Hi @jadams754, when FlexPay is selected prior to an order being placed, we only authorize the first FlexPay along with any taxes and applicable shipping fees. The only time the full amount would be authorized ahead of a FlexPay is if the order was placed without FlexPay and then changed to FlexPay after the fact.
Also, HSN does not assess interest charges or fees on FlexPay or ExtraFlex. However, use of your HSN Card or other credit card for FlexPay or ExtraFlex payments may result in interest charges and other fees in accordance with the terms and conditions of your individual credit card agreements.
-
I guess I will be very careful with what I purchase. I’m not going to use flex pay anymore. It’s sad because I love DG2 jeans & many beauty items. I won’t buy a beauty product I have tried before!
