I Was Banned From HSN Due to "Excessive Returns"
So I’ve been a loyal HSN customer for over 10 years now, and last night I went to make a purchase and it kept saying my purchase wouldn’t go through, try again or call Customer Service. I did a quick chat and was told I am basically banned from shopping with HSN due to “excessive returns”. I wasn’t even notified prior to this abrupt ban. Also, I feel that the way the presenters always push “oh, just get it home and try it and if you don’t love it, etc etc” – what they don’t tell you is HSN will ban you from shopping if you do this too many times. I am a 46 year old woman who feels like a scolded child!! I tried speaking in person to Customer Service this morning and they suggested writing a letter requesting my shopping privelages be restored (man just saying something like that sounds like a grounded child begging their parents to lift a punishment!) – Anyway i’m just wondering if writing a letter is even worth my time, has anyone here had this happen to them, and has anyone here actually been successful at having their privelages reinstated by writing a letter? Thanks in advance!

This happened to me, more than 15 years ago, back when I first started shopping online at HSN. The hosts would say “buy every color!” “Return the colors you don’t like!” I was ignorant enough to believe them, and would always return what I didn’t like. Then one day I wasn’t able to buy anything.
The END RESULT is I stopped buying so much, and never buy anything unless I’m 99% sure I will like it. I can’t remember the last time I returned anything. I don’t even return broken things.
Whenever possible, I MUTE the videos so I don’t hear all the hype. I zero in on the product itself, not the words of the hosts. My advice is to be careful what you buy, and don’t believe everything the hosts and vendors say. Read the reviews, especially the bad reviews. Read the “Features” and “Specifications” so you know exactly what you are buying.

Wow, when you’re purchasing some thing online you’re taking a chance whether it fits or it meets your needs, etc. I’ve been with HSN since 1990. Ever since QVC took them over they are consistently going downhill. All the hosts do is push push push do bye-bye bye. And if you don’t like it, return it within 30 days and then there is the false advertising.
-
That happened to me many many years ago & I started shopping exclusively at QVC. I have only recently started back shopping but it’s their policy not mine so if it happens again ,I won’t shop them again. I’ve been with QVC since the beginning & NEVER EVER had that told to me.
-
You are so right! I am so sick of the hosts bantering back and forth like silly teenagers instead of giving the info we want. I am so over HSN and QVC. I’ve moved on to some very interesting retail boutiques that are very reliable. Once HSN and QVC merged. It was over for me. They eliminated the BEST designers and now show hundreds of jeans, and ugly cheap clothes.

Give it a try. HSN has quality. AND 30 days unconditional warranty full refund if needed.

Hi all. I’ve never bought anything for HSN. Is the quality good? They have a good deal on the Shark FlexStyle (hair wrap tool), but was feeling cautious that it was a scam, or that the quality wouldn’t be as good as from the manufacturer. Any feedback on this?

I have found most of what I buy is as I expected. You do need to do your research and read reviews. Remember. The presenters are sales people and as such some of it is hard sell. You will get to know the presenters. I have been a member for 35 yrs and really never had big issues with HSN. Any problems I did have were resolved to my satisfaction.

I am done with buying clothing unless it’s something I already own. When the host tell you to buy two sizes to see what fits you it’s not a good sign. Then you have to try to exchange an item or send it back if your size is out of stock. I have had jeans or pants that I bought in multiple colors & the colors are different sizes!

I feel sorry for you! If show hosts would stop trying to be “models” and acting like they are in comedy clubs and instead doing the jobs they were hired for, there would be LOTS LESS returns. I don’t know how many times I say aloud “show me the back” of a garment. How high up is a ring mounting? (Rulers are still available.) Show me the calories etc. in vitamins.? How deep are the armholes? Is that elastic at the waist or above? Just examples of what we need to see instead of hearing about Parisienne vacays or ski trips or beach resorts attended.
Instead of blocking accounts, customers should be given gold stars just for taking leaps of faith and buying sight unseen in these cases.

I am very sorry HSN is now doing this. Not sure of your particular circumstance, but QVC has done this for a number of years now without explanation. I never had a problem with HSN, but things are not as they were when I first became a member in the 80’s. Excessive returns hurts everyone, but my point of contention is that are we placing the blame correctly? It is the customers fault or is it the quality of the merchandise? Food for thought.

There is a reason they recently had more layoffs.
-
I ordered an item and no return labels or instructions at all. I had to call for the return address. They are making it difficult to return things hoping you will just keep it. HSN and QVC have one foot out the door. It’s just a matter of time.

I too received a letter today re: excessive returns over the past year. Apparently, they did not go through my order history far enough to know that I have been a loyal customer for more years than I can count! I have kept more than I have returned.
When you have an online business, it is expected that items, once received do not always suit everyone’s taste. They have a 30 day return policy for a reason and if I received something that either does not fit, the style does not suit my taste once tried on, does not work, or the quality is not good, it is my right to return it.
I don’t see anywhere in their policies that quotes an excessive return rule? This is from their site.
What is your return policy?
30-day Satisfaction Guarantee!
Need the same item in a different size or color? We’ll ship it free! Just visit us online or give us a call, then ship your original item back within 30 days using the HSN return label.
We stand by every product we sell, and we want you to be completely satisfied with the purchase you make, but we understand that sometimes an item just needs to be returned. If an HSN purchase does not meet your expectations, you may return the item within 30 days of the date of receipt for a full refund including the original shipping and handling. Most of their items do sell out quick and on occasion I’m sure their customers order 2 different sizes or colors as we don’t know which one will work. If it’s something we like, it may not be available if we need to exchange it for a different size. This is the beauty of online shopping. There are so MANY items, and sizing is not the same for each designer.
I hope this will not fall on deaf ears and I do hope someone responds to these posts. Such a letter is a quick way to lose a VERY loyal customer.

It’s ridiculous!! I got a letter too a couple of years ago. What happened to customer loyalty? We are online shoppers and there are no guarantees the size is right, the color is right whether you like the material or not etc. There should be a no questions asked return policy without scolding the customer, it’s absolutely horrible!!
I’d rather shop on Amazon, I get a full refund every time I don’t like something or item is not as advertised.
Shame on HSN 😠-
Letter receiver here. I like your take on the Amazon… so true. My items have mostly been defective received from the warehouse. I spoke with them each time and it’s documented…. Or from a reaction to a product… but I was warned our shopping relationship could be no more. Speaking of the news👀…. Perhaps they’d like to hear and share of these experiences…have I got a book!

I don’t like the new shipping cost. $5.98. It’s ok if you’re buying multiple items. Or items of $75. But not for one item. Why the change?
-
Has anyone had an issue printing the easy return label? This is my very first purchase, unfortunately the shoes didn’t fit and I need to return. EASY return label is not available and it’s super frustrating.
-
Oh my! Funny you mentioned that. I just got off a chat with HSN asking why a EZ label was not provided. I got an answer stating some partners do not use the ez label. What??? I’ve been shopping with HSN for almost 30 years and this never happened to me before. If this is going to become an issue, I think when you order an item that does not provide an ez label, you should be notified either on the air or when it’s ordered. It’s quite an inconvenience and it’s not like the EZ lablel is free! We pay for it. What a mess these companies are now.
-
I totally agree. Half the time my printer doesn’t work and I have to have my grandson do it on his. I’ve noticed Marla Wynne items do not have an EZ label as do some of the shoe vendors. FRUSTRATING to no end.
