How do you arrange your closet?
I have tried a few different ways but still have trouble finding stuff. I tried arranging by color and then arrange each color by sleeve length. Doing this, I realized that there are some colors that overpower my closet. Black, blue, beige. Hardly any purple or pink. I seem to have lots of prints which I seldom wear. I want to streamline but can’t seem to begin especially since I now want to add some purple and pink.

By the way, I just remembered that IKEA has some great ideas for rearranging closets, drawers, etc.. They are online and if there is a store near you give them a try. Prices are reasonable. They also have people to help with selection and ideas to maximize space. Just remember to have measurements and an outline of space and what is there now.

Ebony46, there are some wonderful you tube video’s on this subject. There is one with a lady from France, and she covers topics such as how many shoes she has, what clothes she wears and, how she styles, and even what is in her purses. It was very interesting.
If you have shelves in your closet then you may find some of the smaller storage bins really helpful. See Small Collapsible Storage Boxes – Set of 2. The clear entry is helpful.
746-117. I also have a rolling 3 draw plastic cart for handy items I use each day. You can also find a storage hangars with slots that hold undergarments.
Depending where you live and how much space you have, you may want to put seasonal items under the bed in a storage dust proof bug proof type bin. You can also store shoes in a rolling under bed bin.
Let us know how it goes for you. -
Ebony, I just noticed that some of my blouses and pants are color coordinated. Since I am in Florida at the moment, my winter clothes are in another closet along with jackets and coats. On cool days and evenings I tend to layer rather than take a sweater or light jacket. Both Lowes and Home Depot have experts to help you make decisions on how to organize. I use plastic bins with covers for hats, clutch purses, scarves, wallets, etc.. I also have a shoe rack and since it is now full, if I decide to purchase then something has to go. You need to ask yourself the following: “If I haven’t worn this dress, blouse, jersey, skirt, pants in the last six months or so, will I wear it within the next three or four?” If the answer is no, toss it. My kitchen cabinets and kitchen drawers were overflowing. Nothing was in it’s place. So I did one section at a time. For once in my life I know where things are. And guess what, I am going through that again just to be sure. At least, for now, there are no duplications.

So many great ideas. Plastic bins is the way to go! I will begin there. thank you.

I have one closet dedicated to capes.
I have two closets that are sectioned by pants, capris, leggings, blouses, etc…..
Each category is separated by color. For example, my blouses that are pink live together, my blouses that are purple live together, my blouses that are black live together, etc…….
This makes it easier to quickly select what I want to wear.
I am also in the process of donating some of my clothes to the women’s shelter.

Yet another good idea. A women’s shelter is a great place to donate clothing. I do wish I had a few more closets but that would defeat my purpose to scale down.

This may sound really crazy, but through the years I have purchased so many of Iman’s clothing and matching totes that I neatly fold them up and place them in the tote. They don’t even wrinkle and I recognize what is in them because they match.

I use 3 different closets, inn3 different rooms. And probably haven’t worn anything in them for years. Organized mostly by color. But too much to go through which I do, try on things and donate. But not enough. Mater of fact Always donating clothes. From dressers. Very overwhelming too., all these clothes. But not giving up, little at a time is my motto.

Recently, I emptied my entire closet and went through everything. As I sorted through everything I found there were many things that I had never worn, others I had not worn in six months or more and others where I can honestly ask, “What was I thinking?” I put these into separate piles and hung the others that I loved. Come to find out, it was easy. The one thing in life I do not want is clutter. So I donated the items that I knew I wouldn’t wear. In the end it felt good to know that someone else will enjoy those purchases.

That’s a superb idea or so I thought. Last night I removed all clothes in beige and my prints and tried everything on. Except for a few items, everything went back. I will keep trying as I don’t want clutter either.
