Heidi Daus by the truckload
My sweet mother passed away this past summer. Over the past several years she spent her time and lots of money on the home shopping networks. I suspect that there are many customers like her. Among her favorite brands was Heidi Daus. We have at least 75 pieces. This is not quality jewelry. Maybe for costume jewelry, but still overpriced. I’ve kept a few pieces as a remembrance, but most will be given to Goodwill. It’s quite a waste.

My daughter probably feels the same way. I love Heidi’s jewelry. She will no doubt chuck mine too even though I tossed her the eBay or Poshmark idea. I have already parted with a few pieces for charity. It has fetched really good money. However, there are some pieces I could never part with because they make me feel pretty. At 74, that’s no easy task. And yes it makes me smile. Forgive your mom’s taste. The next generation might not appreciate yours either. It’s a generational thing I think.

I tend to agree that Daus’s taste certainly is not for he faint of heart. I always found it gaudy and over the top but on Heidi, the jewelry looked fantastic. However, I do miss the classic style of Joan Rivers from her jewelry to her clothing. It’s just not the same so I’ve stepped away–far away. I enjoy the Joan Rivers’ pieces I have and will always but for the comment regarding Ebay, I think that’s a wonderful idea. Thank you.

@cspmu, I’m so sorry for your loss. However, if you look on eBay you’ll see that Heidi Daus jewelry sells used at some pretty high prices. Perhaps you could sell the jewelry and donate the proceeds in her name to a charity your mother supported. Do you know if your mother was active in the forums here?

Heidi Daus isn’t for everyone. Some would rather lavish on cut gems, gold necklaces, bracelets and charms. But, my mom, like yours, enjoyed the pieces she found on QVC, namely the Joan Rivers Collection. She also marveled on items from Hawaii. Some of the pieces had real stones, others were just crystals. Like you, I kept the ones that reminded me of her and others I gave away to family, her friends and then to charity. I still have her bedroom TV which has QVC imprinted on it’s face from sleepless nights.
Just a few years ago I started looking at Heidi Daus and slowly became one of the girls. Her artistry is what I enjoy. She has gone back to different eras when people wore the emeralds, the diamonds, the sapphires on gold chains in a grotesque way. My mom, if she were alive today, would love this jewelry. The boldness, the statements, the flowers, which embodied her garden as well. Some of Heidi’s jewelry is too ornate for me, but if it’s something I cannot resist, then I pin it to a hat or a purse or to a pocket or even as a hair piece. Her crystals shine throughout the piece and compliments the statements she is making. Most of her crystals are Swarovski that seem never to dull. I do not purchase every piece I see. I purchase what I feel shows me as a person. When I wear the necklace or show off a pin, the compliments never cease. Yes, it is costume jewelry. Just like Trifari, Suzanne Somers, Monet, Rhinestone, etc.. These later ones had their ornateness also. My mom’s motto was if it wasn’t bold, then it’s not lavish enough. It was something she enjoyed and something she adored showing off. So don’t belittle your mom’s taste in jewelry. She enjoyed watching Heidi and shopping Heidi. If it made her smile, then that’s all you needed to see. My mom’s smile will always be carried in my heart, as well as some of her not so great tastes. In other words it was something I wouldn’t wear myself. But, as long as it made her happy, so be it. PS: take a look at some of the Trifari pieces on E-Bay. These were $10-$15 each back in the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Oodie, My Mother also wore very bold jewelry. At almost 6 feet tall, and an extrovert; it suited her. Me at 5″4′, not so much. I still kept many of her pieces ( some were stolen).
I consider Heidi Daus Jewelry as high end costume jewelry. Unique, sparkly and fun.
CSPMU, there is a market to sell the jewelry if that interests you. As Heidi says, keep the boxes to store your jewelry, so if you have them it’s even better.
