Conversation – 32

This is number 32 out of the of the series.
I created and started this thread going on 12 years. 😎🎈
I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. ✨😎
I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. 🌹✨😎I have been shopping and posting on HSN since the late
90’s I would shop and post from work. Those were the good ole days. 😎

ONE LAST RIDE ✨ The Most Legendary Concert in History — Barry Gibb, Dionne Warwick, Barbra Streisand, Dolly Parton, Diana Ross, Céline Dion, Frankie Valli & Yvonne Elliman Unite for a Once-in-a-Lifetime Farewell That Will Never Happen Again!
Eight icons. Eight legacies. One stage. In 2026, the impossible becomes reality as Barry Gibb leads a dream assembly of voices who defined entire eras — Dionne Warwick’s soul, Barbra Streisand’s power, Dolly Parton’s heart, Diana Ross’s fire, Céline Dion’s grandeur, Frankie Valli’s magic falsetto, Yvonne Elliman’s velvet tone. Together, they’ll join forces for ONE LAST RIDE — not a tour, but a historic convergence of pop, soul, disco, and country that will never be repeated.
But here’s the detail sending fans into a frenzy: each legend will perform a duet they’ve never sung before — handpicked by Barry himself as a final gift to the world. Imagine Céline Dion and Dolly Parton sharing a ballad, Barbra Streisand and Diana Ross trading verses, or Barry Gibb harmonizing with Frankie Valli in a once-in-a-lifetime clash of falsettos.
This isn’t just a concert. It’s the final gathering of legends, the soundtrack of generations colliding in one unforgettable night. 🌟 Miss it, and you miss history itself. -

Peace Out Peeps enjoy your evening. 😎

NATIONAL BAO DAY
On August 22, National Bao Day guarantees your taste buds will be shouting “Wow!” Why? Because ancient Chinese gastronomic delicacies often cause oohs and ahhs on food holidays.
At first one might consider it to be just a simple steamed bun. Dumplings aside, this is the flavorful Chinese dough used to make bāozi, or bao. It’s also stuffed with savory meats or sweets. More than a side dish, bao is a type of sandwich. And, this delicious meal grabs attention in the United States. That’s why it’s gaining popularity at every mealtime of the day.
There are excellent reasons, too! Created as an elegant package, bao fits in the palm of the hand making it portable. Bao satisfies with all our favorite flavors. From spicy to sweet, BBQ and Thai, this little sandwich covers breakfast, lunch, supper, and dessert. Still hungry? They’re great snacks and perfect for sharing, too.

NEVER BEAN BETTER DAY
If you’ve waited for a Never Bean Better Day to enjoy the unconditional love of your canine companion, August 22 is the day! Just like our ever-joyful pets, the day casts away the worries and spreads enthusiasm for life.
The celebration encourages both the spirit of generosity and sharing the joys of life with delight. Go out into the world with your family pet and plant the bean of love everywhere you go. Share it generously, like dogs do when they take care of us when we are sick or down. They give us all their love with abandon in the forms of licks and snuggles. Sometimes our furry friends do tricks and antics only canines know how to do. Other times, they even perform their own love song or woo woo. Every day should be a Never Bean Better Day to share all the love your dog stores up!
-

From cutting edge techniques to the latest in research and therapies, surgical oncologists push toward a cure every day. 🌑✨ Black Moon in the Sky! ✨🌑
Tomorrow, August 23, a rare and mysterious event takes place: the Black Moon! 🌌
This phenomenon only occurs once every 33 months, making it a truly special moment for skywatchers.
🔭 What is a Black Moon?
A Black Moon is the fourth new moon in a single season. Normally, each season has three new moons, but this time there’s an extra one. Since the Moon’s dark side faces Earth, it remains invisible to the naked eye.
🌍 Why is it important?
• The sky will be darker than usual.
• The Milky Way, stars, and even meteors will shine more clearly.
• It’s a rare chance to witness a unique astronomical event.
✨ Viewing tips:
• Go somewhere far from city lights for the best view.
• No telescope needed—it’s visible to the naked eye.
• A perfect opportunity for astrophotography! 📸
👉 Don’t miss it—your next chance won’t come for another 3 years! -

Good day on the Gulf Coast of Florida. 😎🎈💕i am so glad your ankle is healing.
I am very sorry about your friend it’s always sad to lose someone you’ve known
a long time. 💕I know this renovation is going to test you but once it is one and done you can breathe
a sigh of relief because that means hubby will be coming home.Oodie do you have any plans for his BD? Also in mind his BD is the 25th. I hope I am right.
I go by memory. LOL! 😎I am working on small projects and it’s one day at a time. I got my labs back last week and every
lab panel was perfect. 💕I have to give a lot of credit to Andrew Lessman’s Products which I take
every single day. 😎 I never miss watching his shows because he explains everything. My labs are proof. 😎
I hope you got some good rain. I love it when the rain is gentle and the earth can be
fresh and clean. 💕Oodie let me know how things go for you today and take it easy on that ankle.
-
I left hubby about 8:30 pm and drove during a light show with loud bangs and rain. Streaks of lightning went diagonal and a few vertical. I arrived home in one piece. A/C and computer were off.
Hubby had an exceptional dinner tonight. Yes he had pureed food and an orange ice cream or could have been sherbert. He had the dessert first. He had finished the pureed food when the aide arrived with a second helping. This food was not pureed. It had chunks of meat in a barbecue sauce, sweet potato, one slice of white bread and cole slaw. He was like a young kid in a candy store. I told him not to eat the cole slaw. I did sliced the meat into bite size pieces. He put the sliced sweet potato onto a fork and took small bites. I actually stayed long enough to make sure that he did not have a coughing fit. The aide brought him a soft cookie for a treat. The RN on duty was mad and furious with me. Said I cannot bring any food even ice cream or frozen custard. And here we go again. Today was a good treat and it wasn’t from me. Someone made a mistake and the one to blame is the person or persons in the kitchen. The second helping from what I understand had is name on top of the meal. I hope this proves a point. On the other hand I will probably be blamed and the puree will go on. It was so nice to see his smile. That meant everything to me. On Monday I intend to be with him before lunch and the entire day.
)After reading what your children did for your birthday. I decided on doing something similar. Hubby and I enjoyed going into NYC for a day or to spend a few days shopping and doing whatever. We sometimes would make a beeline to Times Square to purchase Broadway tickets either for a matinee or an evening performance. So the book you mentioned made perfect sense. I hope you don’t mind. For his birthday on the 25th, I will be bringing our CD/DVD player with some CDs along with his favorite musical and DVD, “West Side Story.”
The ankle isn’t 100%, but is doable. The pain is a dull roar. I can now walk without a limp. I also contacted our electrician. We have an appointment next month for the A/C maintenance. At the same time they will change the lightbulbs in the ceiling and the ones outside. So afraid of heights. However, if there is something I can reach in case of slipping, will use the step ladder thing. Ceiling things, nothing to grab.
-

George Michael Lyrics
“Careless Whisper”I feel so unsure
As I take your hand
And lead you to the dance floor
As the music dies
Something in your eyes
Calls to mind a silver screen
And all its sad goodbyesI’m never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
Though it’s easy to pretend
I know you’re not a fool
I should’ve known better than to cheat a friend
And waste the chance that I’d been given
So I’m never gonna dance again
The way I danced with youTime can never mend
The careless whispers of a good friend
To the heart and mind
Ignorance is kind
There’s no comfort in the truth
Pain is all you’ll findI’m never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
Though it’s easy to pretend
I know you’re not a fool
I should’ve known better than to cheat a friend
(Should have known better, yeah)
And waste the chance that I’d been given
So I’m never gonna dance again
The way I danced with youNever without your love
Tonight the music seems so loud
I wish that we could lose this crowd
Maybe it’s better this way
We’d hurt each other with the things we want to say
We could have been so good together
We could have lived this dance forever
But now who’s gonna dance with me?
Please stayAnd I’m never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
Though it’s easy to pretend
I know you’re not a fool
I should’ve known better than to cheat a friend
And waste the chance that I’d been given
So I’m never gonna dance again
The way I danced with youNow that you’re gone
Now that you’re goneNow that you’re gone
Was what I did so wrong, so wrong
That you had to leave me alone? -

Father Figure
Song by George MichaelThat’s all I wanted
Something special, something sacred
In your eyes
For just one moment
To be bold and naked
At your side
Sometimes I think that you’ll never
Understand me (understand me)
Maybe this time is forever
Say it can be, whoa
That’s all you wanted
Something special, someone sacred
In your life
Just for one moment
To be warm and naked
At my side
Sometimes I think that you’ll never
Understand me (understand me)
But something tells me together
We’d be happy, whoa
Baby (I will be your father figure)
Oh, baby (put your tiny hand in mine)
I’d love to (I will be your preacher, teacher)
Be your daddy (anything you have in mind)
(It would make me)
Very happy (I have had enough of crime)
Please, let me (I will be the one who loves you)
‘Til the end of time
That’s all I wanted
But sometimes love can be mistaken
For a crime
That’s all I wanted
Just to see my baby’s
Blue-eyed shine
This time I think that my lover
Understands me (understands me)
If we have faith in each other
Then we can be strong, baby
my baby
(I will be your preacher, teacher)
(Anything you have in mind)
If you are the desert, I’ll be the sea
If you ever hunger, hunger for me
Whatever you ask for, that’s what I’ll be
So when you remember the ones who have lied
Who said that they cared
But then laughed as you cried
Beautiful darling
Don’t think of me
Because all I ever wanted
It’s in your eyes
Baby, baby
And love can’t lie, no
(Greet me with the eyes of a child)
My love is always telling me so
(Heaven is a kiss and a smile)
Just hold on, hold on
And I won’t let you go, my baby
Put your tiny hand in mine
(I will be your preacher teacher)
And anything you have in mind
And I have had enough of crime
So I am gonna love you
Until the end of time
I will be your
(I will be your preacher) father
(I will be your father) I’ll be your daddy, whoa!
I will be the one who loves you
‘Til the end of time -

Jesus to a Child
Song by George MichaelKindness in your eyes
I guess you heard me cry
You smiled at me like Jesus to a child
I’m blessed I know
Heaven sent and heaven stole
You smiled at me like Jesus to a child
And what have I learned from all this pain
I thought I never feel the same about anyone or anything again
But now I know
When you find a love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights
When you’ve been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there’s no hope in sight
Sadness in my eyes
No one guessed or no one tried
You smiled at me like Jesus to a child
Loveless and cold
With your last breath you saved my soul
You smiled at me like Jesus to a child
And what have I learned from all these tears
I’ve waited for you all those years
Then just when it began he took your love away
But I still say
When you find a love
When you know that it exists
Then the lover that you miss
Will come to you on those cold, cold nights
When you’ve been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Then the lover that you kissed
Will comfort you when there’s no hope in sight
So the words you could not say
I’ll sing them for you
And the love we would have made
I’ll make it for two
For every single memory
Has become a part of me
You will always be my love
Well I’ve been loved so I know just what love is
And the lover that I kissed is always by my side
Oh, the lover I still miss was Jesus to a child -

🌌✨ A Once-in-a-Lifetime Sky Event — Six-Planet Alignment!
On the evening of August 21, 2025, the heavens will host a rare and dazzling spectacle: six planets aligning in a cosmic parade. This breathtaking event brings together Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, , and Neptune — all lined up across the twilight sky.
🔭 What to Expect
• Mercury & Venus: Shining low near the horizon, visible just after sunset.
• Jupiter: Bright and golden, unmistakable as one of the night’s brightest points.
• Saturn: A little dimmer but steady, high above with its soft glow.
• & Neptune: Fainter, but visible with binoculars or a small telescope for those who want the full lineup.
🌠 How to Watch
• Look westward after sunset.
• Head to a spot with a clear horizon, away from city lights.
• You don’t need a telescope for most — your eyes are enough to enjoy this rare dance of worlds.
✨ Why It’s Special
Planetary alignments of this magnitude don’t happen often. For ancient civilizations, such alignments were seen as omens, cosmic signs, or sacred rhythms of the heavens. Today, they remain a reminder of the grandeur of our solar system and our place within it.
📸 Capture the moment — alignments like this are rare and unforgettable. -
Thank you for the reminder!! My kid loves all things planets and space so we are going out to see if we can see them with his telescope 💗

Good day on the Gulf of Florida. 😎🎈I am sure your day is a busy one. We are all having
a busy day. OZ is very humid. LOL!Today is also my Trash and Recycle Day. 🎈I love getting rid of things I no longer need.
I hope all is going well with your husband. I hope the home Renovation will be completed
on time for you and hubby. 🎈😎
Oodie enjoy your shopping. We have school back in session and the roads are insane.
Hope this post find you well rested. 🎈💕
-
Didn’t see hubby today. Instead tried to make a small dent in what needs to be done prior to the renovation. The company I’m using does a total renovation if needed. They will be redoing our subfloors throughout the house and will lay the new vinyl flooring (when I find the one we both like). The one stipulation is that it must be completely waterproofed. What I found thus far is that not all materials in vinyl meet those recommendations.
Last night I did look at tile online and found several at Home Depot. I will make a trip after hubby’s birthday. I did see other ideas for the shower and I chose another look. Now, I need a picture so the room doesn’t look too busy. Thank goodness I have a color scheme in mind.
The ankle feels better and the swelling has gone down. Three weeks. I remember our friend, (may she rip), mentioning getting bitten by a spider and the pain lasted weeks and weeks. I went out and bought a spray and used it in every room. I will do it again next month.
I am returning to do this and that. Have a great evening and enjoy the walk in the moonlight. It is cloudy here. Rain is expected in a few hours and it will be off and on through the weekend. Temps have been in the 90s and the humidity 90% as well. It was very humid here all day. As I mentioned yesterday, A/C never felt so good.
-
Hi, you must have ESP. One of the things my husband brought home that was not on my list was ribs for dinner! They were okay and made some mashed potatoes. The best ribs I have ever had north, south, east or west is a place called Clem’s about an hour from my home. Baby back, very small bones, fall apart and don’t even need a knife. Their sauce is thick and not greasy. I don’t eat ribs often but compare everyone’s to these.
I am not aware of any Sam’s Clubs closing in western PA. I have been going to the same one for 25+ years.
-
Good morning in S. California. 🎈😎 OZ is alright today just a bit humid.
My neighbor who went to Poland is going back to Poland again she really likes
it there. We spent time together today early.Tonight she leaves for her home in the Ozarks she travels so much. 😎🎈💕
I really enjoy hearing her stories and she mine.
Here is to great Trails. 😎🎈
-
Sheba, that’s interesting your neighbor has another house. That would make me anxious as I would always be worried if it was ok. I’ve been home for water pipes bursting, in and outside and once when my husband was out of town, water started coming out of the garage wall that has a spout. I was so happy I figured out how to stop it.
Glad you were able to talk to her and that she plans to go back to Poland. I want to go back to one Museum and move in for about 1 week. You probably wont hear from me for a while this time next month. -
Thank you for the heads up. I appreciate it because I would have been concerned.
You never know what people are really going through.I hope you have a great trip. 😎🎈

Happy and safe trails. 💕😎🎈
-
Good Day in the ‘burgh. I hope your day is going well. I am been in and our and doing this
and that. 😎🎈Never a dull moment LOL!

How was your husband’s trip with the family? I am working on some small projects.
I am going to wish you and Jake a cool Thursday. 😘💕😎🎈
-
Good afternoon to you. Overcast this morning, sunny in the afternoon but still a bit humid.
Hubs golf trip went well.🏌️♂️ Won some money and no rain. Took some pictures with the family, my nephew needs to get the shotgun ready since the girls are real beauties. Time flies by when you don’t get to see them often.😮
I’ll be anxious to hear how 1587 Prime debuts and the food choices when you go. Good luck to them.👍 Have a good evening, hugs to you and Poppy.🤗💖
-
Good Evening I am lol at your post. I always had a shotgun for our daughters. 😎💕😘
I still do just in case.Glad he had a good time. My neighbor is half way to the Ozarks next trip I am going.
I hope this evening is a good one for you to just relax.

Enjoy and sweet dreams. 😎💕

In 1895, a skinny 12-year-old boy stepped off a ship in Boston. His shoes were worn, his English was broken, and his pockets were empty. He had just crossed the ocean from the mountains of Lebanon with his mother, two sisters, and a half-brother—carrying nothing but hope.
America didn’t welcome him with open arms. In school, kids mocked his accent. Teachers called him slow. Some even called him “filthy” because of his olive skin.
But he had something they couldn’t see—quiet fire.
He spoke little, but his mind painted pictures. His sketches said what his words couldn’t. Slowly, he mastered English… and with it, began crafting a voice that would echo through generations.
His name? Kahlil Gibran.
By the time he was in his 20s, tragedy had ripped his family apart—his half-brother, sister, and mother all gone. Only one sister remained, working in a dress shop so he could keep studying. He never forgot that sacrifice.
In 1923, he released The Prophet—a slim book of poetic wisdom about love, sorrow, freedom, and joy. It exploded across the globe. It’s been translated into over 100 languages, read by world leaders, rock stars, and millions of strangers who felt like he was speaking just to them.
Elvis read it. Lennon quoted it. JFK owned it.
And still today, people gift it at weddings, funerals, and moments that change lives.
Gibran never shouted. He wrote.
And the boy they once called “unwanted” became one of the most beloved voices in human history.
“Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls… The most massive characters are seared with scars.”

A rare cosmic event is on the way — the Black Moon will rise on August 22–23.
Unlike regular full moons, a Black Moon is a special occurrence when a month holds two new moons. Since the new moon is invisible to the naked eye, its power is felt more than seen — a moment of cosmic reset, fresh starts, and heightened energy.
🌌 During these nights, the skies will be darker than usual, making it a perfect time to witness meteors, constellations, and the Milky Way in all their brilliance.

Good day on the Gulf Coast of Florida. 😎🎈Oodie hubby and I did something different

of your numbers we had the hotdog and drink it was so good. We use to take our kids

I hope things are going alright for you with the home renovations for hubby. 💕

This reminds me of your Lake. 💕🎈😎Oodie let me know how things are going when you
can. -
I am relaxing at the moment. Did not see hubby today. Instead went to the Farmer’s Market for the last day of their weekly sale. I was shocked to see they still had cherries and of course I took a package along with stone plums. They had a sale on stew beef and, well, I didn’t purchase any. They must have been trying to clean their case out. All I noticed were heaps of stew beef packed in huge containers. I just didn’t want to bother putting them into freezer packs for several meals. Besides, I do not eat that much beef. I also went late thinking that the humidity would be down as well as the temps. No such thing. By the time I returned home I was completely wiped out. Brought the groceries in and then rested. A.C never felt so good.
Tomorrow is garbage and recycle. The recycle bin is filled but may find some room for one or two more boxes. I now need to go out and pick out the flooring. Did some window shopping using the computer and it looks like Home Depot has several things. I will take a ride and see if they look as good as the pictures. If so, will bring some samples to hubby. I am trying to find a service that would bring him to some of the shopping areas and then pick him up when we are done. If there is such a service, it will certainly help when he is home.
I am bushed. So goodnight to you three. Have a wonderful evening.

We do lead the same lives. I didn’t go but my husband was at Sam’s today with my list, lol! As always, he came home with 4 or 5 things not on the list. He did not have a hot dog but did get a blueberry sundae.🍨
Not much happening today which is a good thing. I think I’ll have one of my vodka iced teas tonight while watching TV. Hang in there, big hugs to you, hubs and Poppy.🤗💖
-
Good Evening I hope you are enjoying your night. 😎🎈

Here is your special tea drink for tonight.
I am having a small snack of Ice Cold Watermelon. 😎💕
Jumping in the shower for a nice Korres experience. 💕
Sleep well.

I thought Sam’s Club was no longer North. They closed the warehouses in Ct., R.I. and Ma.. I never tried their hotdog, but placed an order for their Meat pizza which I had delivered. It’s good, not great. Better when reheated the next day for breakfast. LOL Also try their ribs that are made on the premises. It’s next to their take out chicken. It’s really good.

I’m in the fourth quarter… and I’m going to run up the score.
My Dearest Friends,
As I get ready to blow out the candles this year, I’m not just making a wish, I’m making a declaration.
I’m in the fourth quarter… and I’m going to run up the score.
Now, before you think this is just about age or time, let me stop you right there. This is about intention. This is about how we show up in the time we do have, whether we’re just getting started or well into the second act of our lives. It’s about how we live, how we love, how we sparkle… on purpose.
Because the truth is: we don’t get to control how much time we have, but we do get to control what we do with it. And I’ve decided, with every fiber of my being, to live the rest of my life all in. I want to pour it out. Say the things. Wear the sparkle. Do the brave thing. Love harder. Laugh louder. Dream bigger. And do it all looking fabulous.
That, to me, is running up the score.
This birthday, I invite you, no matter your age or season, to do the same. Not someday. Not when it’s perfect. Now. Don’t hold back. Don’t edit yourself for comfort. You weren’t made to shrink. You were made to shine.
Maybe you’ve had seasons where life dimmed your sparkle. Maybe you’ve poured everything into others and forgot to pour into yourself. Maybe you’ve been quietly surviving, waiting for permission to thrive.
Here it is: Permission granted.
Take that trip. Wear the necklace. Start that thing you’ve been too scared to start. Call that person. Book that class. Forgive. Let go. Begin again. Run up the score on every dream, every moment, every breath you’ve got left.
Because here’s the deeper truth: every single day is a chance to start again. To choose courage over comfort. To choose joy over judgment. To choose yourself.
So I ask you, as I’ve been asking myself lately:
Who am I becoming? Not who the world expects. Not who I used to be. But the version of me that is rising now – stronger, wiser, bolder. A woman with nothing to prove and everything still to give.
This season, I invite you to stop holding back. Get the jewelry. Book the flight. Say the words. Dance at the party. Launch the dream. Do it all, looking fabulous.
Let’s run up the score on every dream still burning in our hearts. Let’s wear our sparkle like armor. Let’s be big. Let’s be loud. Let’s be fully, gloriously alive.
The best part?
We get to do it together.
Let’s run up the score, together.I’ve never been more committed to living fully, fearlessly, and fabulously. I hope you’ll join me.
With all my love, fire, and endless sparkle,
Heidi

NATIONAL POTATO DAY
Ah, spuds. On August 19 each year, the humble potato takes center stage. In truth, though, doesn’t it steal the show at nearly every meal?
-

NATIONAL SOFT ICE CREAM DAY
National Soft Ice Cream Day on August 19 gives us a tasty way to cool off on a hot summer day. Whether you enjoy it in a bowl or on a cone, grab some soft serve and enjoy!
-

NATIONAL AVIATION DAY
National Aviation Day on August 19 recognizes the pioneers of human flight.
For centuries, humans have been fascinated by flight. In ancient China, kites few to investigate the weather. Inventors such as Leonardo da Vinci developed many ideas about flight, too. Gliders and balloons lifted humans into the sky, but none of the inventions gave a person control of where they flew.
Before Powered Flight
The physics of flight and propulsion play key roles in who became pioneers. George Cayley used aerodynamics while designing fixed-wing aircraft. His designs would later inspire Orville and Wilbur Wright.Since propulsion is one of the primary requirements to lift a human into the sky for flight, it would make sense that an engine could provide that power. Samuel Langley, an astronomer from Boston, designed a steam-powered model called an aerodrome in 1891. It flew for 3/4ths of a mile.
After receiving a grant to build a full-sized aerodrome, Langley’s first test crashed. He never made another attempt.

NATIONAL MAIL ORDER CATALOG DAY
What was once one of the most popular ways of shopping is remembered each year on August 18 as it is National Mail Order Catalog Day.
This day marks the anniversary of the first Montgomery Wards mail order catalog. On this day in 1872, Aaron Montgomery Ward of Chicago produced a catalog designed for direct order via mail. He aimed to remove the middleman from the business of buying and selling. As a result, he also drastically lowered prices.
The very first catalog consisted of an 8 by 12-inch single sheet of paper. On it, Ward included the merchandise for sale, price list, and ordering instructions. Before long, the Montgomery Wards single-page list of products grew into a 540 page illustrated book selling over 20,000 items.
It didn’t take long for enterprising merchants to copy Montgomery Wards’ idea. One notable merchant, Richard Warren Sears, mailed his catalog in 1896. As others entered the field, catalog sales grew. By 1971, catalog sales of major United States firms exceeded more than $250 million in postal revenue.

NATIONAL PINOT NOIR DAY
National Pinot Noir Day on August 18 encourages wine lovers to experience one of the wine world’s most versatile wines.
Since Pinot Noir’s high acidity along with the lower tannins, it complements food nicely. Wineries around the world produce pinot noir using red wine grapes and primarily the Pinot Noir varietal.
The dry wine includes hints of cherry and raspberry, as well as earthy flavors and notes of floral. It’s one of the world’s favorite red wines, too. One Pinot Noir grown and produced in Burgundy, France bears the name of the region. France also produces more Pinot Noir than any other country. However, today the grape is grown all over the world. The soil, climate, and how it is processed all impact the flavors.
-

NATIONAL ICE CREAM PIE DAY
National Ice Cream Pie Day is observed annually on August 18. This is the second ice cream holiday in August and it honors a refreshing frozen dessert that comes in many delicious flavors.
First came putting ice cream on pies. The natural next step would be making ice cream into pies. With all the flavors available, our options are unlimited! Plus, when we figure in the types of crusts to make with ice cream pie, the concept is beyond delightful. Combine graham cracker crusts and maple pecan ice cream for a fall treat. Or a vanilla wafer crust with peanut butter ice cream topped with bananas – yum! You’re only limited by your imagination.
The treat also makes an excellent substitute for those who can’t decide on pie or cake for their birthday. Compromise and just have an ice cream pie. So many benefits to enjoying ice cream pie over just ice cream or just pie.
Ice Cream Listicle
Ice cream pies are also a real crowd-pleaser. No matter what flavor you make, they are an easy and delicious dessert to make and serve. Whether you make one for a birthday party, pot luck or another family gathering, it’s sure to be a hit! -

NATIONAL FAJITA DAY
On August 18, National Fajita Day recognizes the sizzling deliciousness of the savory Tex-Mex flavor found in fajitas.
In the early 1930s, Mexican vaqueros in Southwest Texas developed what we’ve grown to love all over the United States. Using throwaway cuts of beef, they developed the fajita. However, it wasn’t long before they became a staple in the region. These cowboys cooked the steak over an open fire or grill. Once cooked, they served it with flour or corn tortillas. In later years, fresh Pico de gallo, guacamole, and southwestern spices elevated the fajita. Soon the convenient meal for hardworking cowboys made an introduction to new audiences. The fajita became a destination food in the culinary world.
As their popularity grew, fajitas added a colorful flair to Tex-Mex menus. Sizzling platters full of bright peppers, onions, and a mouthwatering aroma delighted patrons. Menu choices beyond tender steak also broadened the fajita spectrum. Sweet shrimp, lean chicken, or pork with freshly made tortillas arrived at tables with fanfare. By the 1980s, most Mexican restaurants in the United States served fajitas. In the modern culinary kitchen, lime, cilantro and a plethora of vegetables find their way into a fajita, too. Add to that the perfect seasonings and mouths really begin to water!
Another flavor boost comes from grilling with mesquite. It adds a smoky flavor and bacon adds crunch. Of course, who could forget the cheese? With their festive presentations, fajitas continue to be enjoyed today. The fajita has come a long way from skirt steak trimmings!

WORLD NEVER GIVE UP DAY
Today is August 18 on the National Day Calendar, and we are celebrating World Never Give Up Day. This day is more than a celebration–it’s a global movement that honors the often unrecognized but unyielding spirit of determination. On World Never Give Up Day, people around the world are encouraged to reflect on their goals, reignite their passions, and embrace the inner strength it takes to keep pushing forward.

Too Much Sugar May Be Worse for Your Heart Than High Cholesterol, Study Finds
A large-scale 15-year study published in JAMA Internal Medicine has revealed that consuming high amounts of added sugar dramatically raises the risk of dying from heart disease—even for people who aren’t overweight.
Researchers found that individuals who got 25% or more of their daily calories from added sugar were over twice as likely to die from heart-related conditions compared to those who consumed less than 10%. This heightened risk was consistent regardless of weight, age, sex, physical activity level, or cholesterol readings.
The primary source of added sugar? Sugar-sweetened beverages—including sodas and fruit drinks—which make up more than one-third of the added sugar in the average American diet. Other major contributors include desserts, candy, and sweetened cereals.
Scientists believe excess sugar may elevate blood pressure and cause the liver to release harmful fats into the bloodstream—both key contributors to cardiovascular disease.
The American Heart Association recommends limiting added sugar to 6 teaspoons (100 calories) per day for women and 9 teaspoons (150 calories) for men. But just one can of soda can hit—or exceed—those limits.
Experts suggest making small, sustainable swaps: opt for fruit-infused sparkling water instead of soda, and reach for naturally sweet options like whole fruit to reduce your risk of heart disease. -

Good Day on the Gulf Coast of Florida. I know you have a lot going on today.
Good luck with the contractors doing their thing getting everything right.
Oodie Oz is very hot and humid today. I am wearing a beautiful yellow Diane Gilman
top and I am wearing a nice pair of her jeans. 💕😎I hope everything goes well for you today and you get to do your shopping and see
hubby. 💕How is your back? Please take it easy. 🎈I know your hubby has a BD coming up. 💕😎
-
I finally went to bed around 3 am and awoke at 7am. Started some cleanup around the front door and started the recycleing for Thursday. The humidity started to climb and the sun became stronger and I went inside. At least the outside is beginning to show some promise. I then cleaned the bathroom and the decorator came to do the measurements. The closets will not be touched. The room will be completely demolished and will be enlarged by width, though that can change. If so, unpacking the two closets will not be a problem. There will be enough people on hand to help me with that project. The decorator was working with the supervisors and other people in charge and during this time we changed the tile. A picture was sent and I must admit I liked it. It actually looks like marble and will go with any color. Flooring is next and not sure at this point what I will pick. They are suggesting tile, but I may go with something else. I want something that will not be slippery. Guess I will venture to Lowes to get an idea or two. What I assumed would be about 15 minutes actually took two hours.
Saw hubby and his face was thinner. Not happy. I will try to meet with their so called social workers tomorrow to see about ordering additional food. I know they want him at a certain weight to help him stand on that one good leg. Hubby also feels that the leg brace on the other leg is helpful. At least his hands weren’t shaky which means he didn’t skip a meal.
The back is a problem and t hat is due to the humidity and the storms in the afternoon and early evening. I am doing my best under the circumstances. Definitely, no heavy lifting. Hope you three are having a great evening. Enjoy the moonlight.
-
Good morning in S. California and good luck with all your upcoming travel plans.

January 12, 1888 — It began like any other winter morning on the Nebraska plains. The air was mild, the sky calm. Children walked to school without coats.
By noon, the sky darkened. A wall of white roared down from Canada — the infamous Schoolhouse Blizzard. In minutes, temperatures plunged to -40°F, and winds whipped the land at 60 miles per hour.
In a one-room schoolhouse near Mira Valley, 19-year-old teacher Minnie Freeman heard the roof groan under the force. Snow and ice burst through the door. Thirteen children stared at her, their faces pale with fear.
Rescue wasn’t coming. Waiting meant freezing to death. So Minnie made a choice.
She tied the children together with rope, wrapped them in every scarf and blanket she could find, and stepped into the blizzard. Visibility was almost zero. The wind clawed at their faces. Each step forward was a battle against the storm.
After what felt like hours, a shadow loomed — a farmhouse. All 13 children stumbled inside, alive.
Word of her bravery spread across the country. Newspapers called her “The Nebraska Heroine.” Letters, gifts, and even a song — Thirteen Were Saved — honored her courage.
In a storm that took more than 230 lives across the Plains, Minnie Freeman’s decision turned what could have been tragedy into one of history’s most inspiring rescues.
