NATIONAL PEACE ROSE DAY

Each year on April 29th, National Peace Rose Day honors a well-known and fruitful garden rose.

The light yellow to large cream-colored flowers of the Peace rose have slightly flushed crimson pink petal edges. It is a hybrid tea rose that is hardy, vigorous, and highly resistant to disease.

French horticulturist Francis Meilland developed the Peace rose between 1935 and 1939. When Meilland foresaw the German invasion of France to protect the new rose, he sent cutting to his friends in Italy, Turkey, Germany, and the United States. It is believed these cuttings were sent to the United States on the last plane available before the German invasion.

Each country that received a cutting gave the rose a different name. It was called “Madame A. Meilland” in honor of the breeder’s mother in France. Italy named the rose Gioia, meaning Joy. In Germany, the name of the rose was Gloria Dei, for glory to God. The United States named the rose “Peace,” and the national flower of the United States is the rose.

As the Second World War came to a close in Europe, the trade name “Peace” was publicly announced on April 29, 1945, by the Conrad Pyle Co. in the United States.

Later in 1945, Peace roses were given to each delegate at the inaugural meeting of the United Nations, in San Francisco, with a note that read: “We hope the Peace rose will influence men’s thoughts for everlasting world peace.”

NATIONAL ZIPPER DAY

National Zipper Day commemorates April 29, 1913, when the patent for the modern zipper was issued. The day celebrates something we often do not think about and may automatically take for granted.

NATIONAL SHRIMP SCAMPI DAY

National Shrimp Scampi Day on April 29th gives us a tasty way to celebrate. On this day, we honor the delicious dish of shrimp cooked with butter, garlic, lemon juice, and white wine.

NATIONAL SUPERHERO DAY

Have you ever been rescued from a risky situation or saved from injury or death? Those who come to our aid are called heroes. Some heroes happen to be in the right place at the right time. Others choose to be a hero as a career (though they wouldn’t call themselves heroes.) Other still are fictional creations that inspire us with hope. Each year on April 28th, National Superhero Day honors superheroes, both real and fictional.

NATIONAL BLUEBERRY PIE DAY

National Blueberry Pie Day on April 28th each year ushers in blueberry pie-making season. Blueberry harvest begins in April and lasts until September giving us a long season full of blueberry enjoyment.

NATIONAL BRAVEHEARTS DAY

Each year on April 28, we celebrate National BraveHearts Day to honor the bravery of families dealing with childhood cancer. During this time, pay tribute and support the families and friends of those involved in the child’s life.

GLOBAL PAY IT FORWARD DAY

Every year on April 28th, Global Pay It Forward Day encourages people around the world to engage in a small act of kindness. It’s a day to respond to someone’s kindness toward you by being kind to someone else.

NATIONAL GREAT POETRY READING DAY

At the tail end of National Poetry Month, April 28th marks the observance of National Great Poetry Reading Day. This day celebrates distinguished poetry and the notable poets who wrote them.

As an art form, poetry may predate literacy. Epic poetry appears to have been composed in poetic form to aid memorization and oral transmission in prehistoric and ancient societies. It is directly from folk songs that other types of poetry developed.

There is up to a 60% chance of rain this week. I’m not holding my breath…….

The decorator has finally sent some photos of tile for the bathroom and I am not a happy camper. The beige looked yellow and the others were too dull to make a comment. He does not have samples. Yet, the owners stated that they do have samples. Anyway, long story short, I called in another business and they will be here Wednesday morning. This one does have samples. However, they only do bathroom remodels and nothing else. The other one does everything. Flooring, ramps, subfloors, painting, etc .etc..

Today was a rough one. One of my precripts was incorrect as to the amount. I phoned the pharmacy and was told that was the way it comes. So, I phoned the doctor’s office only to be told that it was on “recall.” So I asked for another med and was told it was up to the pharmacy. Never heard that the doctor does not order the prescriptions. This is one time I really miss my pharmacist dad. Not to worry, I will work this out.

Contacted the Social Worker on hubby'[s roommate. Something about the type of room is the reason he cannot be relocated. This is one time I would love to see him home. But, alas, it is a
catch 22. Nothing started. No ramp. No bathroom. No new flooring. No new paint on the walls.
The floor and the paint can wait until hubby is home. Others, not so fast. Will keep you posted. It was a really rough day. On a better note. Something blue showed up on the e-mail that was
absolutely breathtaking. If that is in stock, it is a GO….The color is very close to the Peacock’s neckline. If they have the green that is in the feathers, what a gorgeous bathroom that would be. I have a feeling it is a no no.

The colors sounds very tranquil and calming. I don’t think your husband cares what
the house looks like as long as the safe measures are in place. The Ramp, the bathroom
and the Bed are at the top of the list. The rest can be done as time goes on.

I finally watched Klute the Movie from start to finish. I was too young to watch it when it
first came out. I watched it OnDemand on TCM. The movie was very good. I mention this
because you had seen at one time and you mention how Jane Fonda wore some necklace
like Heidi Daus designs and you were right. 😎 This movie won Jane Fonda the Academy
Award for Best Actress. I love the cut of her hairstyle. 😎

Anyway I finally saw it with fresh eyes. 😎

Today is very nice in the ‘burgh, sunny and near 70.🌞 80s tomorrow with severe thunderstorms, may have up to 75 mph winds and 1-1/2 inch hail – gee, I can’t wait! Hang in there with your weather, the grass will be shooting up like corn stalks.

I am having day two of meatloaf with a side of noodles and veggies. I don’t mind leftovers, it means I don’t have to cook, yay!

I love meat loaf and so does hubby. I think we cook alike and that is fine with me. 💕

I do try to save for left overs for lunch or another dinner meal.

I was happy to get good pieces of meat with very little fat. I can never get enough
Noodles. 💕A salad is a must especially with orange and red peppers it gives the salad
that pop. Hubby likes French Dressing and I like the original Hidden Valley Dressing. 💕

The night is quiet for now but soon we have a hard thunder storm on the way.

Had a great visit with hubby. He enjoyed a half of an egg salad sandwich wrap and some Breton veggie chips. I also brought sliced cantaloupe which he enjoyed as I was getting ready to return home. Why his food is still pureed is beyond my comprehension. The food I mentioned was not pureed, rather whole, though on the soft side. He was able to chew and swallow without a problem. I need to remember to bring a toothbrush and toothpaste with me tomorrow. His teeth need a good cleaning. I am surprised that no one follows up on this. Yes, I have mentioned it. Numerous times. Oh, how happy I will be when he is home.

I decided to make a stop at the Farmer’s Market. Tomatoes are on sale this week for $.99/lb. A nice sale this week. Looks like I will need to make another trip before the ad ends. Luckily they are only a couple of miles from home.

No rain in sight. 80s during the day and lovely 60s at night. Humidity is up there , 80-95%. You would think with the high humidity, some rain would fall. Nothing. And to think we are just weeks away from hurricane season. YIKES!!!!

National Hug A Plumber Day on April 25th recognizes those who come to our rescue when pipes leak or drains are clogged.

NATIONAL ZUCCHINI BREAD DAY

Each year on April 25th each year, National Zucchini Bread Day encourages bakers to make this delicious bread.

Many explorers who came to the Americas brought back what they considered strange foods, including the zucchini. The zucchini eventually found its way to Italy, where it was named zucchino. Native Americans referred to zucchini as “something eaten raw.” However, we all know that zucchini tastes best cooked, especially in bread.

Zucchini bread is similar to other quick breads like banana bread. Other quick breads you might be familiar with making include muffins, scones, and biscuits. When baked, Zucchini and banana bread go into the oven in loaf pans. When finished, slice and serve with butter, peanut butter, jam, or just plain.

NATIONAL HISTORIC MARKER DAY

Historic markers all across the nation provide a glimpse into the past and preserve history for future generations. On the last Friday in April each year, National Historic Marker Day invites volunteers and communities to come together to maintain their markers. NATIONAL HAIRBALL AWARENESS DAY

Cat lovers have all been there. That onerous sound their cat makes when a hairball is on the rise. On the last Friday in April, National Hairball Awareness Day draws attention to a problem many cat lovers face.

The formation of hairballs is a common feline condition that is brought on by self-grooming and the associated ingestion of hair. Cats pass the hair through their digestive tract or will the hairball. If they don’t eliminate the hairball from their digestive track one way or the other, hairballs can create an obstruction. Obstructions can cause serious medical issues for a cat.

NATIONAL DNA DAY

On April 25th, people across the nation recognize National DNA Day. On this day in 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick formally announced their discovery of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in a short letter published in the science journal, Nature.

NATIONAL ARBOR DAY

Trees afford us many pleasures. In the spring, their buds let us know warmer weather is on the way. Their summer leaves provide ample shade on a hot day. Have you ever joyfully jumped into a pile of crisp colorful leaves in the fall? And in the winter, tree branches offer shelter to wildlife for our viewing pleasure. Each year in April, National Arbor Day encourages us to celebrate and plant trees. The observance takes place each year on the last Friday in April.

I didn’t see hubby today. I phoned the receptionist to let her know and bingo, one of the nurse’s phoned to make sure I was OK. It is actually a car problem. For some reason it will not start. Battery seems to be OK. I phoned Triple A around 4 pm and now it’s after 9 pm. Seems they only have a few people working on the weekend. After a phone call, they will be here in the am and will call before arriving. So I am working in the kitchen.

I saw hubby yesterday and his roommate was still there. He was quiet the entire time I was there. There are two social workers at the Rehab. One just started a 3 month maternity leave and the other seems to be in left field. He is new at the job and I suspect he will learn the ropes pretty quickly. There is still a high turnover of help. Have no idea what is going on. However, last night the helicopter was overhead when I left and it did follow me home. It hovered overhead until I retrieved the items from the back seat. I need to talk to my neighbor to see if she has anything to do with this. She does work as a Chaplain for the Sheriff’s Office.

That’s it for now. I hope to leave early tomorrow to visit Costco and then on to see hubby. Probably will stop at Culver’s for their homemade custard which we both enjoy. Have a great evening. What is rain??????

Good day in the ‘burgh. 🎈😎Oz had another rainy and stormy night. This was not as bad
as the night before. The animals all got feed even the possums came. LOL!

I am on and off the phone with my sister who lives in GA she has Covid. Shizzle!
Lady make sure hubby is alright with that cough that is how my sister started off.
This being Spring it could be anything.

Sis will test tomorrow to see if she is still positive. I am so glad our son was here when
Covid got her and two other people she knows. The Beast is still here.

I still mask up when I go to certain places.

We had very little rain today, maybe more overnight and cooler tomorrow. It is humid so some storms may rumble up. Hopefully it will get rid of some of the pollen.

I told my husband to go to the doc’s but that is always last on his list.🙄 Keeps saying he will be fine. I know he won’t let me test him for Covid. Sure hope your sister gets over it quick. Seems everyone I talk to knows someone who is coughing.😷 Please tell me your SIL gets better each day.🙏

Good day on the Gulf Coast of Florida. 😎🎈Oodie your post from last night was concerning.
Very alarming about he room mate your husband should not have to fear anyone in a place
like rehab where he is trying to get better and get the heck out of there.

Oodie keep a sharp eye out for anything too much is going on in this world. I trust very
few people period. I know not all people are not nefarious but I trust my gut instincts.

I hope you are able to get your husband away from the patient as soon as possible.
I would document everything the patient has done to hubby if something happens
it will be on them. Do what you have to do for the safety of your husband that is paramount.

This does not feel right as you have write how all his room mates have been. I have never
heard of anyone like him before.

I am saying a prayer of safety and well being. 💕Oodie let me know how things go today
I hope the person is remove from your husband and go no where near him.

Good day in the ‘burgh. 💕😎 Lady when I was writing your post from last night all
Hades was breaking loose in OZ. I had my security camera near me and my computer
is near a window. All I could hear and see was hard rain, thunder and lightning.

Lady it was so loud Poppy got concerned I knew I had to shut off everything and make
sure things were unplugged. I have never heard thunder like that.

I was watching for the cats do you know that came to eat when the rain slowed down LOL!
I had to grab one the BB Guns and go after a racoon in the rain. The little critter would not
go away and was trying to eat the cats food. Rain or no rain I was not having any of it. I put
my Uggs Boots on and flew out the door. My husband was knocked out sleep. 💕
The Racoon did not come back after that and all the cats ate in peace. 😎 I am not to be
messed with and the animals know that. 😘

Wishing you a very nice day. 😘😎💕I had to leave once the rain started. Today Oz is
very nice and clean. 💕🎈

It is very warm today, sunny and high in the mid-80s. Not sure if we will get that storm but rain is forecasted later tomorrow into Saturday morning.⛈ We usually get what you have had. Poor Poppy, I hope he has calmed down. My Jake shivered and shook.

We are going to wait until after Mom’s birthday to have her birthday dinner since my husband has a cough again and his golf league starts on Sunday. We will go up to see her either tomorrow or Saturday with gifts and a cake.🎁🎂

Just made it home after being with hubby. The roommate last night was horrible. Today I contacted Social Services within the Rehab and let them know what was going on. I asked that the roommate be sent to another room or to another facility. Tonight hubby admitted to me that he is afraid of this guy and I let the staff know. The night supervisor was present and I reiterated the message. This is the first time hubby has ever felt non secure in any way or fashion. This has never happened in all our married years. There are no other patients in this rehab that act this way or ever acted this way in the years hubby has been a patient. His first roommate was a person who was released from prison after spending most of his life in a cell for murder. He turned out to be the kindest person and very helpful. He left after someone befriended him an apartment nearby. There were others who came and went home and others who have passed on. All were wonderful until now. So that is the update and there will be more to come in the next 24 hours.

Nice that you were able to enjoy the long weekend with your son. Surprises are always good and so much fun. I’m sure Poppy had the best time ever. Also good that you and your son were able to visit your dad. I am sure he was there with you both. This week is particularly hard on you and it really never ends. Just gets a bit easier to bear. Take care of yourself, that is the most important.
