GLOBAL CRAYOLA CREATIVITY WEEK

The last full week in January is Global Crayola Creativity Week. For an entire week, we are supporting Crayola as they partner with educators, families, and celebrity guests to nurture children’s creativity and inspire more creative moments.

NATIONAL IMAGINATION DAY

January 19 is National Imagination Day to celebrate the playground of the mind and the power of using your imagination to create endless ideas.

Everyone has a little spark inside of their mind where endless possibilities meet between creativity and reality. Where imagination paints a picture of an unseen idea, bringing exciting possibilities to the forefront of our mind. For many people, using their imagination is what drives their creative thinking to help them thrive and excel. So, what is so special about using your imagination and why is it important?

Whether we realize it or not, our brain is a creative organ that runs on concepts and ideas. We fuel it with new and exciting thoughts created from our imagination and allow our minds to run wild. Learning to embrace our imagination feeds our thinking process and encourages our imaginative mind to never stop learning. The more you use your imagination, the stronger your brain becomes.

I loved the “Golden Girls” and the intro song was the best. Thank you for doing the lyrics.

That story about Dad and Corky always makes me smile. That mini poodle was smart and how he hated wearing boots and a jacket during the cold spells. He also hated the snow. I was the one that went out and made a path with my feet so he could just run out and return without a hassle. Most of the time he would just use the master bathroom. The complete opposite to Corky was our stray cat that found our front door and then made his home with us. He hated the litter box. No matter how hard I tried to show him that it was just dirt or sand, he hated it and would make a dash to the front door and out he went. Of course he did his business in a hurry and returned as fast as his four legs would carry him. His cat friend, Ziggy, would climb up onto our walkway from the sunroom to the other end looking for us to open a window to let him in. The home in Ct. is a raised ranch and that cat could climb. There were many times I would hear his meowing from the roof. He was originally from New York City. I was told from his new mama that his first mama had an apartment on an upper floor. She would let Ziggy out from the first floor and when he wanted to be inside would climb up the bricks tp get tp his home. Miss both cats terribly.

Again, thank you for the birthday cakes and the greetings. I’ve enjoyed every morsel and t hen some. I awoke to a summer day with temps in the mid 70s. Right now we are in the mid 60s.
Temp when I leave hubby will be somewhere in the 40s. I am all set. Will wear a sweater and then some for later. Have quilts in car just in case the Rehab is also freezing. Love the layer look.

Hope the kitties will be OK. Be surprised if they want to go inside. Nice to be able to see where the ice is. I used to tred in the snow from the front door in Ct. to the car which was parked outside. Never used the walkway. Facing North it was always covered in ice.. Do be careful. .

NATIONAL THESAURUS DAY

National Thesaurus Day, on January 18th, honors Peter Mark Roget, the author of Roget’s Thesaurus, who was born on this day in 1779.

In 1840, Roget retired from a successful career in medicine and spent the rest of his life working on Roget’s Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases. NATIONAL PEKING DUCK DAY

National Peking Duck Day, on January 18th, recognizes the national dish of China.

This dish is considered a delicacy due to its elaborate preparation and intense flavors. Since the Yuan Dynasty, established by Kublai Khan, Peking Duck’s roots are steeped in tradition that chefs have perfected over thousands of years.

The crispy, flavorful skin is the signature element of Peking Duck.

Chefs prefer the White Beijing duck for preparing this dish. However, in the United States, the preference is for the Pekin duck. They are raised for 65 days before being brought to slaughter. First, chefs pluck the duck and pump it full of air between the skin and the meat. The meat is then covered with boiling water, skewered, and hung to dry. While drying, the duck is glazed with a sugar coating and left for 24 hours. This whole process adds to the crispness of the skin.

The duck is then roasted hanging from the center of the oven to allow the fat to drip, basting the skin as it does. When presented, the Peking duck is often sliced artfully by the chef before the diners. Traditionally served in three portions, a Peking duck meal begins with the crispy skin, which diners dip into sugar. Following the skin, the next course is composed of thin pancakes stuffed with tender duck meat, hoisin and bean sauces, and cucumbers, onions, and garlic. The final serving is a duck soup or broth.

I was able to be with hubby this evening. Yesterday I spent almost 2 hours trying to navigate 3 steps from the front door. I finally gave up and made a call to the Rehab and left word with our favorite aide. He will be back Monday and Tuesday. Today, was a better day. The steps are steep and no amount of leaning on the railing helped. The pain was, well let’s just say I can take a lot of pain, but this one I could not do a thing. To think it is all weather related.

I am glad you are having a fit of laughter. However, many years ago, when I was single and still in school, we had a poodle named Corky. He loved my dad and would follow him everywhere. One morning Dad was up early and getting ready for the day at his pharmacy. Corky followed him into the bathroom and watched dad use the toilet. He whined and whined which meant he needed to go out and so dad let him out back. The only problem is that it was not only wet out there, but it was snowing pretty hard. Corky made a mad dash back into the house. Dad thought that was the end of everything and that Corky could wait for either me or Mom to let him out. That wasn’t the case. He made a mad dash to the bathroom and made a puddle next to the toilet. He did this every time he didn’t want to go outside. He also used it when he wasn’t feeling that great. I smile every time I think of his little adventure. Best of all, an easy cleanup.

Today actually was a good day for me. Finally, no leg pain. Tomorrow?? Well, that’s to be decided. Today we were in the low 70s and right now it is 68 as I type. At least that’s what the computer states. The forecast for Sunday is mid 70s and then in the afternoon we will have some thunder and lightning and some rain which we desperately need. I have no idea what I will feel. Suffice to say that our temps from the mid 70s will go down to the upper 30s to low 40s. Not sure if we will see 60s during the week since another cold front will be here on Tuesday. We will not see 70s until next weekend and that will be short lived as well. I cannot complain. The water temps are low which means no hurricanes. Strong winds, maybe.

The cakes yesterday were fantastic. Best of all, I didn’t gain any weight…..😀🍾🎁🍧🎹🎵🎭birthday🎭 think I had a slice from everyone. No favorites. They were all different so could not pick one.

Have a great evening and hope the kitties use their shed during the cold spell. Again, thank you for the birthday wishes and treats. It’s so much fun to sit back and enjoy the moments.

I am a bit concern about your legs, and the pain you are experiencing. I can understand the cold weather upon Florida. One day it’s warm/hot, and the next day is cold. Along with the cold you experience at the rehab too.
As I read about cold affecting the body, it mentions heat therapy. I am pretty sure you most likely already have a heat pad on your legs. But I thought I mention anyway.
Is there an oil you can rub and massage your legs with. A warming oil perhaps. Believe it or not, olive oli in the winter warms me upupI use it the massage into my arms and legs. And no, I don’t mind the fragrance of it at all. I also use almond oil at times and castor oil at other times.
I hope you find a solution, and will be able to feel better soon.

Thanks for the all weekend celebration. I think after all we have gone through, there is nothing like a little celebration to makes us smile, laugh, sing, holler, etc. to forget all the problems within our families and for those facing trouble times elsewhere. We need to smile more and frown less. At the same time I hope and pray that your SIL is feeling better following the chemo. and can do some of the things she enjoys. Nothing like having dinner out or one delivered.

During the winter months I try to keep fresh ginger in the house. I use it in teas and food. In teas I cut a small piece and put it into the cup and let it seep for five minute or more. Ginger does have some pretty good antioxidants. Great for cold or flu season and also great on cruises. It helps with digestion and also for those days you do not feel like eating. I sometimes throw some slices into boiling water.

I purchased the TS this morning. I have the first 4 from last year and they really come in handy, especially when shopping at either Aldi’s or the Farmer’s Market. I use them mainly for items going into the freezer or frig. Makes handling and carrying a bit easier on the arms and legs and quickens the time spent in the kitchen so I can be on my way to see hubby.

Today I am running a bit behind schedule. I have clothes in the wash that will soon be in the dryer. I’m getting ready for some cooler or colder temps next week. I will be doing this all weekend. Try to stay warm and bundle up. Too bad Poppy needs to go out. Wonder if he would like using a child’s toilet during bad weather or during real cold spells. Just a thought.

The snow is melting and I can see him clearly and he misses spending time outdoors.

Good morning in S. California. I hope the fires are dying out. The fire fighters and first
responders need a much needed break so do the people of California being affected.

I need to stop watching the news it’s affecting me when I see people who have lost
everything except the clothes on their backs. I will never whine again about anything it
can be so much worse. Prayers up for all affected.

I am sure Matlock was a re-run that I have seen. I am expecting a call from my niece
I just want to make sure she is safe. Oz will be even colder over the next few days.

It will be cold for the game tomorrow but the Chiefs are used to that.👍 Not so much for the Texans. It should be interesting. I’m planning on an easy dinner so I can sit and enjoy the game.

34 degrees. This weekend I don’t think I can stand it we will be bone cold. Hello winter.

My concern is only for the animals. I am going to the store tomorrow and stock up on
fresh foods the cats will need it especially with the coming week being so cold.

NATIONAL NOTHING DAY

Each year on January 16th, people across the nation recognize National Nothing Day.

The observance was created as a day to provide Americans with one National Day when they can just sit without celebrating, observing or honoring anything. (National Day Calendar only reports the Days, sometimes they may contradict themselves.)

NATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM DAY

Each year, National Religious Freedom Day commemorates the day the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom was signed on January 16, 1786. Each year, by Presidential Proclamation, January 16th is declared Religious Freedom Day.

NATIONAL WITHOUT A SCALPEL DAY

Each year on National Without a Scalpel Day January 16th recognizes the opportunities to treat disease without a scalpel. On this day in 1964, pioneering physician Charles Dotter performed the first angioplasty. The ground-breaking procedure to open a blocked blood vessel took place in Portland, Oregon. Not only did the angioplasty allow the patient to avoid leg amputation surgery, but she left the hospital days later with only a Band-Aid.

NATIONAL FIG NEWTON DAY

National Fig Newton Day on January 16th annually recognizes a tasty pastry enjoyed across the country.

A Nabisco’s trademarked version of the fig roll, Newtons are a pastry filled with fig paste. Fig Newtons have an unusual and characteristic shape that has been adopted by many competitors, including generic fig bars.

Up until the 19th century, many physicians believed most illnesses were related to digestion problems. As a remedy, they recommended a daily intake of biscuits and fruit. Fig rolls served as an ideal solution to their advice, which remained a locally produced handmade product.

In 1891, Philadelphia baker and fig-lover Charles Roser invented and patented the machine, which inserted fig paste into a thick pastry dough. The Cambridgeport, MA-based Kennedy Biscuit Company then purchased Roser’s recipe. They began mass production after purchasing the recipe. In 1891, they produced the first Fig Newtons baked at the F.A. Kennedy Steam Bakery. The company named the pastries after the town of Newton, Massachusetts.

After recently becoming associated, the Kennedy Biscuit Company and the New York Biscuit company merged to form Nabisco. The new company trademarked the fig rolls as Fig Newtons.

I was with hubby most of the day and I have to admit it was fun and hilarious. Unfortunately, I didn’t see hubby yesterday. As I was leaving the house the left leg gave way and thank goodness for the handrail. It saved me from a terrible fall. After that, I decided home was the best idea. I phoned the Rehab and discovered hubby’s favorite aide was there and I left a message that I would not be there. I was still having some problems today, but thankfully, I could walk. It did rain yesterday and again this morning. Not sure about tomorrow’s forecast, but assume we will be in the 70s. Next chance for rain is Sunday and then the temps will plummet. Tomorrow will be a day for laundry. I finally found the winter wear and that will be the wash that needs to get done first. These are the sweaters and sweatshirts that I so desperately need for the next few weeks. Yes, I do have other sweaters and sweatshirts. These are the heavy duty ones.

My big day was today. I did bring the treats and he loved them. I had purchased a jar of herring and proceeded to puree it. Unfortunately, I could not indulge because the brine is loaded with sulfites. I did try a very small teaspoon and started to choke. I decided to puree a tiny bit and that turned out to be the best thing I could have done. Though hubby loved it and wanted more, he also started coughing. I immediately stashed it away. Luckily the coughing didn’t last long. I also didn’t want the RNs and the Aides yelling at me again and sending hubby off to the hospital. For now, we will both stay away from the herring. However, I did bring a lobster cake from the Farmer’s Market and he enjoyed it. I heated it in the microwave and was surprised that it was still hot to the touch an hour later at the Rehab. He loved it. The Farmer’s Market has Corvina and Halibut on sale this week. I will definitely be adding these to the list for hubby. The Corvina is one of my favorites and is $4.99/lb. The halibut is two for $8.
Since my stove top is useless will make these in the Air fryer. .I do not bake fish in the oven. Rather, use the stove top so they are not over cooked. If they are frozen the day they are caught, the taste is sweet and fresh.

Glad your SIL was able to withstand the chemo this week. I hope those cancer cells are becoming smaller and when things are all said and done she will be in remission. She is a brave and wonderful person. So important for the family to surround her with love.

Today, I was a mopping Queen.

Fun, all those family members Ski and enjoy the outdoors.
I like my feet planted on the ground. When I used to ski; I was afraid. Mostly of the heights and chairlifts. I don’t mind the downhill part. After a few times left dangling in the air from a very high lift, in CA, decided no more for me. 🙂

Right now we are in the middle of a snow storm, so tired of looking at white outside. We’ve had more snow already than the last four winters.🌨❄ The snow blower will be running tomorrow morning. Even colder next week.🥶

Hubs is doing okay, he took the bandages off this morning. He needs to keep the incisions lubricated for the next two weeks with vaseline. He has a slight black eye but that was expected. Hope that’s it for the skin cancer. Thank you for caring.🥰

I’m getting anxious for the game Saturday, seems like forever since they played. Sending winning vibes your way.👍✨ My niece is fine, back at school after the holiday break. I think they all are disappointed the football team lost.

Hello Sheba 🌹🌹 I hope you are staying warm.
Our temperature is the normal Florida Winter. Anywhere between high 50’s to 70’s during the day to mid-40’s at night. Saturday we are going to be in hight 70’s. We need rain, hasn’t rain in a long time.
I received some fresh country egg recently. Made pasta sheets for lasagna and used the egg whites and made some meringue. The other day I made a bunch of crumpets. It’s the easiest thing to make and so delicious. I made enough for the freezer too 😋.
Family in Brazil are doing well. All are healing and getting better. Summer is going strong and soon will be time for Carnaval.
I don’t know if one of my niece who always participate in a parade, will do that this year. In Brazil things come to a halt during Carnaval.

Today my SIL is having her intense Chemotherapy all the family in GA have all hands

The fire app on my phone beeped (notifications) a few times today. Apparently there was a small fire in my City but I think all is ok by now. Nothing major. I’m just on the look out.

Another goofy day with interruptions and things taking forever to get done.😖 No rest for me until maybe the weekend.

Cold and more snow everyday until Sunday. This is getting old and it will be even colder next week with lows below zero.🥶 Trying to help hubs out and doing the back deck and every morning I get up and it’s covered again.
