NATIONAL CHILDREN’S DAY

The second Sunday in June rewinds time for a moment to celebrate National Children’s Day. This day honors the children in our lives by slowing down our fast-paced lives, turning off the tech, and refocusing on the important things. Taking one day may not be enough, but using it as an opportunity to redirect our family life is an important way to stay connected with our children.

Children look up to adults in their life for guidance. While their personalities are unique, children develop their character as they spend time with people. In fact, early interaction is good for development and essential for their growth. Language skills, communication skills, and emotional skills are formed at an early age. National Children’s Day is the perfect time to give the little humans in your life a bit extra time.

NATIONAL DONALD DUCK DAY

National Donald Duck Day on June 9 commemorates the birthday of the funny animated cartoon character known as Donald Duck. Making his first screen debut on June 9, 1934, in The Wise Little Hen, Donald Duck has become an iconic symbol in animation and in homes, alike.

Usually wearing a sailor suit with a cap and a black or red bow tie, Donald Duck is most famous for his semi-intelligible speech along with his mischievous and irritable personality. Known for his quick temper, Donald Duck seems to quack his way through oodles of bad luck. Yet, despite his hot temper, Donald Duck is a loving character with a good heart.

Did you know Donald Duck’s middle is Fauntleroy? . The name means “child king” and derived from Old French.

The Donald Duck character has graced screen and print since 1934. He has appeared in over 190 films and countless comic strips and books, more than any other Disney character. He has appeared in more films than any other Disney character. In fact, Donald Duck was also declared in 2002 by TV Guide as one of the 50 greatest cartoon characters of all time. His ‘acting’ career has earned him Academy Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Who knew a duck could be so famous?

NATIONAL STRAWBERRY RHUBARB PIE DAY

National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day falls on June 9 each year to recognize a delicious and seasonal pie. A tart vegetable, rhubarb is often paired with sweet fruits making for a pleasing dessert. Join us as we explore all things rhubarb. We might even serve a slice of pie for you to enjoy!

Around the country, rhubarb is a perennial favorite for home gardens. One of the first fruits of their labors, gardeners begin to harvest rhubarb in the middle of May and early June, and it finds its way into desserts and preserves. Rhubarb known for making deliciously baked goods and satisfying the hankering for something from the garden early in the season. Since rhubarb takes on the flavor of the fruit or vegetable it is paired with, it is an excellent complement to many recipes.

Rhubarb is so high in oxalic acid, in fact, the leaves are toxic to humans. The stalks, however, are a consumable, rich, and healthful source of oxalic acid. The benefits of enjoying rhubarb could help reduce blood pressure, increase your body’s ability to burn fat, and generate brain myelin. Now, that’s a reason to celebrate National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day!

I was really concerned when you hadn’t posted. Thought for sure you had to pack a bag just in case. I am now doing my happy dance that you are home.

The weather on the Gulf Coast has been dreadful. No rain, though it looked like it. However, our rain chances will go up beginning Tuesday. I hope you get some as well. Weather people predict at least 2″. However, I’m not holding my breath on that one.

If and when you feel like visiting our Farmer’s Market I’m giving you a head’s up. There is construction on I-75 just after the ramp for SR 64. They are doing an on ramp from 301 and a bridge . Eventually, they will begin work on making the 3 lanes, 5 lanes in both directions starting at SR 64. There is a Costco off of SR 64 going East. Target will be going in that area as well as some restaurants and other retail stores. If and when you want to visit the Farmer’s Market (Detwiler’s) just let me know so I can give you directions. It is on 53rd Ave. W. which is also called SR 70.

Still coughing and I agree with you. Seems like it takes twice as long to get well these days. And all the viruses and bugs have the same symptoms so you really don’t know what you have.🤪
Getting a doctor’s appointment takes as long as writing a novel.

Yes, I will be watching hockey tonight🏒 with a glass of rose’.🍷 May even sneak a donut into the mix.😊 Sounds like a perfect plan to me.

Good afternoon Sheba 😊
I hope the storms in your area have been kind to you and just gentle rain.
As far as here, not a drop of water. One day ago we had thunder and lightning and then it just blew over and no rain.

My appointment went well and I was given instructions. Will have to change how I live from now on, but nothing so dramatic.
Have another at the end of the month. Also an upcoming procedure in the end of August. Hopefully I will be done with everything.
Oh I am worst than a child, I hate all this doctors stuff.

I hope you have only good Spring weather and can enjoy the season with your hubby and Poppy.

I just hope that xango is OK and if not home, maybe soon.

It is hot and muggy with no rain chance today. Temps will be in the 90s and with the humidity factored in, over 100. Same will be for tomorrow. Monday will be the beginning of a change with storms forecast beginning Tuesday. This will be a tropical thing and hopefully, will give us much needed rain. The prediction is about 2″. That rain will certainly help if it stays on course.

Hubby was in bed when I arrived. He didn’t want dinner. Said he wasn’t hungry. I did notice his tray was on the other tray table. The aid came in soon after and moved the tray to his bedside and with that he started eating. I had my dinner in tow and used the other tray to eat with him. Today I am in the mood for spaghetti and meatballs and will make it in about an hour. I am still doing KP, but one side of the kitchen is starting to sparkle. So onward I will go.

Hope you three have a nice afternoon and evening. Take care and stay safe. Oh, I took my old way home last night. The road was opened and it took just 15 minutes. I am sure it will close again for repaving. This is all because there are over 600 units for low income. They will range from one bedroom to three. The income has to be below 51k.. I will need to find an alternative route when everything is completed. Hopefully, hubby will be home before that happens.

However, our route North just took a big detour. The interstate will add five lanes North and South. This has already started and will take awhile. The route change will begin at Costco. Not sure at this point if it will continue to our exit that puts us on I-95. There are times that I think we will never head North. This is one of them.
