Conversation 24
Hello Peeps time for a new Conversation Thread. This is number 24 out of the
series. I created and started this thread 10 years ago.
I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. ✨😎
I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. 🌹✨😎

NATIONAL MIMOSA DAY | MAY 16
National Mimosa Day on May 16th gets its name from the Mimosa, a yellow flowering plant. This simple mixture of orange juice and champagne or sparkling wine resembles those flowers in color, however, the flavor adds a kick to most any brunch!
No matter the celebration, mimosas are served up in tall champagne glasses. They turn basic buffets and summer brunches into a festive occasion. You also don’t have to break the bank to make them. Fill the glasses half full with your favorite sparkling wine (it doesn’t have to be expensive champagne) and top it off with chilled orange juice. Garnish with an orange slice, and you’re all set.
Overnight guests will be delighted when you greet them with mimosas and an egg bake you prepared the night before. Or perhaps you’ll heat up the waffle maker. Whatever you serve, the morning will be a hit.

NATIONAL BARBECUE DAY | May 16
Each year on May 16 we celebrate National Barbecue Day in the United States. Whether you grill at home or grab some takeout, you will find Americans across the country enjoying an assortment of mouthwatering barbeque (BBQ) flavors and sauces.
In the world of barbecue, grillers decide how to cook their barbeque. Whether they choose charcoal, wood charcoal, wood, gas or slow cooking, they consider themselves the culinary expert of barbeque. Traditionally, Americans have four types of BBQ regions:
Kansas City – A variety of beef and pork cuts are slow cooked with a tomato and molasses-based sauce.
Carolina – Slow-roasted pork is cooked with a sauce with a vinegar and ketchup base combination.
Memphis – Dry rub pork is cooked low and slow absorbing the smokey, BBQ flavors.
Texas – Beef is slow-cooked in smoker grills and topped a with smoky, dry rub.
Everyone has their own homemade BBQ recipe. However, many recipes include the same ingredients. Ketchup, mustard and Worcestershire, brown sugar, soy and molasses are common ingredients in BBQ sauce. A combination onion, smoked paprika, ground cumin, crushed red pepper and turmeric are often found in the best dry rub recipes. Perfecting your own sauce or rub by experimentingWhen it comes to completing a delicious BBQ, the sides you serve are just as important. Potatoes and baked beans with bacon are considered staples of barbecue flavors. Ideally, a good coleslaw will pair well with a shredded bbq pork and make the perfect sandwich. However, a creamy macaroni and cheese dish is a perfect combination with dry or wet BBQ. Corn on the cob is another favorite side, many grilling it directly with husk on then removing it before eating. Obviously, no barbeque meal would be complete if you didn’t add a slice of watermelon for a light, cook dessert after a big meal.

NATIONAL DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR YOUR NEIGHBOR DAY
You can never fail when following the Golden Rule, love your neighbor as yourself. National Do Something Good For Your Neighbor Day on May 16th encourages each of us to take a moment during our interaction with others and ask ourselves, how would I like to be treated right now?
From there, you will know how to proceed in a better way to treat neighbors around you at the moment at hand.
A neighbor is defined as:
a person who lives near another.
a person or thing that is near another.
one’s fellow human being.
Our neighbors are precious, and it is important to show them gratitude at every opportunity. This day is a reminder that we are all neighbors and should treat each other with love and respect. -
NATIONAL CLASSIC MOVIE DAY
Today is May 16 and we are celebrating National Classic Movie Day by reminiscing about the movies we have seen on the big screen. Grab some popcorn, a drink, and find a cozy chair to relax in as we celebrate National Classic Movie Day.
National Classic Movie Day presents an opportunity to celebrate the film industry and put spotlight on iconic movies that remain favorites through the years. We are using today’s National Day on May 16 to remember stories on the big screen that became a legacy by shaping culture.
What do we consider a classic movie? Many critics define a classic movie as any movie that is memorable or makes an impact on society. A true classic movie impacts pop culture, influences society, and remains a part of our lives. In fact, a classic movie is one that has or will withstand the test of time and remain memorable through generations.
10 CLASSIC MOVIE TRAITS
Every classic movie contains pieces to a large puzzle. Joining these pieces together takes time, dedication, vision, and creativity beginning with the screen writer to final productions. Classic movies can be of any genre, including comedy, suspense, action, thriller, drama, time piece, or romance. Classic movies:
Tell a story through iconic characters that inspire us.
Contain ideas we can relate to and that seem relevant to our current lives.
Provide iconic scenes from exotic locations people wish to visit.
Contain exceptional graphics, acting, music, and storylines.
Address humanism by including experiences, emotion, and even conflict that carry over through time.
Incorporate social, political, or historical information that captures the time period of the film.
Maintain a popular fan base and gain new fans as time goes on.
Present opportunity to re-watch the movie on a variety of platforms, such as the big screen, television, and streaming services.
Pioneer historical topics that push boundaries in society.
Recognize praise by critics in the industry before receiving positive reviews and awards.
Every great movie contains an ending that leaves us feeling some sort of emotion. Whether the ending is sad, triumphant, or empowering, the movie ending is what makes us walk away feeling content. Sometimes we feel an internal feeling of sadness after the ending of a movie. However, we also feel happiness because our perception of the ending was fitting. Is this what sends us back to watch a movie again and again? The Golden Age
The Golden Age in film began in 1927 and ended around 1959. It was during this time Hollywood began producing iconic films containing advancements in picture quality and sound. In fact, film historians often say 1939 was the most memorable year in movie history.6 Classic Movies Released in 1939
The Wizard of Oz
Gone With The Wind
Of Mice and Men
The Little Princess
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Wuthering HeightsCan a contemporary movie be considered a classic? Yes! When we think of a classic movie, we often think of a movie in black and white. However, many movies of modern time have become classics. Movies like Jaws, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, the Star Wars Saga, and Star Trek Saga have become iconic classics from the 1970s and 1980s. In fact, movies like Avatar and John Wick are current box office hits that have already claimed the classic title because their creators keep us at the edge of our seats wanting more.

NATIONAL PIERCING DAY | MAY 16
National Piercing Day on May 16th Day promotes piercing. In times past, pierced ears were about the limits of what we once saw; today the number one type of piercing is the nose/nostril, and quite common. Yes body piercing has increased in popularity, its history dates back to biblical times.
Piercing the lobe of the ear is thought to be the oldest form of body piercing. However, it is by no means the only form of ancient body piercing art. Not only is it considered an artistic expression but in many cultures, piercing holds great meaning in religious ceremonies. The practice of body piercing also has been shown to be an effective medical treatment for some ailments, such as migraines.
Some facial piercings include:
eyebrow – vertical and horizontal
bridge of nose
anti eyebrow or teardrop
nose – septum and
septum
Monroe/Madonna
dimple
labretBody piercing also extends to other parts of the body. From head to toe, humans have been adding jewelry and other decorations by puncturing their skin. They add chains and other ornamentation as well. The procedures are often painful, though temporarily. With proper care, the wounds heal without infection.

Good morning in your corner of the world Loaf wishing you a great Thursday. 😘😎🎈
Check in when you can. -
Good day in beautiful Florida and may this day find you doing well I always like to say that
to you. 😘🎈😎I am hoping to hear from you soon just stay safe and well. -
Good afternoon on the Gulf Coast of Florida. 🎈😎😘I know you may be tired.
I hope you can rest a bit. Oodie keep your keys near you at all times. Hubby is saying
I want to come home.Oodie I do see something off about some of the threads but it’s much ado about nothing
with this thread. I did contact HSN about it to be sure I do believe their IT Department is
working on the site itself.Oz is a bit rainy and we are in the 60’s Oodie you know what I always say I will long for a day
like this during the dog days of summer. 😎🎈I hope your husband PT starts soon and he improves enough to go home.
I hope you are getting some good fresh fruit and veggies from your markets. 💕🎈😎
I think OZ has rained for almost two solid weeks the flowers and lawns love it. LOL!
Oodie let me know how you are doing today when you have time. 😎😘
-
I was able to sign in and you know that makes me happy. 😀😀😀
We were expecting some real severe weather yesterday. I think we may have dodged a real big bullet, though my head didn’t think so. Evidently, the low was lower than I expected and consequently a migraine ensued and I was unable to drive to see hubby. This was one of the real bad ones in which no pill worked against it. So, I stayed put. But we did get some much needed rain and hopefully more today. Both Friday and Saturday will be hot and humid with a good rain chance on Sunday. I think I heard that the Florida Keys will be close to 100 if not over. Our temps on the Gulf Coast have been in the 90s during the day and between 75 and 80 at night. This is not a good sign in that the hurricane season starts in a matter of days.
As far as the keys goes, hubby has always been one to do something to make me laugh. In essence the ride home made me laugh even though I had to go a different route since the one I liked is closed until June something. He has been after me to spend the night and he was trying to do this in his own little way. Maybe being home yesterday was a good thing. The new route was closed until sometime this morning due to two car accidents. The road was closed in both directions. I surmise it was a multi car crash. I don’t know if anyone was hurt.
Yes, I’m still in the kitchen. Working on the pantry and tossing everything that expired. I had two full bags today and that’s only one shelf. I also started on the pots and pans along with the covers. I am trying not to keep any duplicates, though some pots and covers I do use more than others. Hopefully, I will have some empty shelves when all is said and done.
Hope you enjoy your day. Hope the kitties are able to stay dry.
-
The kitties are doing fine and I made sure everyone ate and left fresh water for the other
Critters. 😎I love what I do for the animals and if one day I am super rich I will leave most
of my monies to my children and the rest to the animals to have a shelter built just for them.
I know it’s nice to dream. 💕Be careful with that traffic construction is everywhere these days.
Sorry about your headache I know exactly how you feel. I have my doctor write me a script
to take when needed I do not take it everyday only when the pain is insane. Our pollen count is very high here in OZ and it is making me and hubby feel like little pieces
of candy. 😎I hope tonight is a good night for you and hubby. Party when he gets home. 💕

Good morning in S. California. 😎🎈💕Taci you live in such a vast State that you can
hike anywhere. I mean you have all the Beaches, Mountains and great Parks. 😎🎈If I lived in California I am a Brentwood Girl all I want is a nice Cottage Style House.
I would hardly be there as too much to do in California. Taci it also help I have relatives
in N. California many of them that I can visit. 😎🎈Hey Happy Trails To You. 🎶🎶I hope your husband and son are well rested from that
four hour bike ride. 💕If you see this beauty along the way just smile. 😘💕
-
Sheba, yes, agree this is a huge vast State. Some have suggested it be divided into 2 States, North and South. Your N CA relatives may have already told you about it. Well, nice you like Brentwood but it’s probably changed like most of So CA. People are afraid to even wear their wedding rings….
I like to hike fairly close by, makes it easier otherwise I would join the gym.
Is it still raining in OZ? Air quality ok (from the Canadian fires)? -
WHAT!!!! Brentwood has changed? I need to talk to my niece to see how bad it is.
Taci California or New York City were always where I wanted to live. 💕🎈Looks like
that dream has drifted away. I just want a quiet little cottage near the Ocean.
Just my luck I run into JAWS. Yikes! Our pollen count is very high here but the weather people never mentions Canada.
I will have to look that up or watch the National Weather Channel.I love the little area I live in the walking is perfect we are getting our fair share of critters
of all sizes so I have to make sure there is daylight or pack something. 😎 I don’t want to
hurt any critter just enough to scare them off.Taci enjoy your evening my head is hurting from all the pollen.

Good afternoon in Oz. Super nice day but storms coming tomorrow and through the weekend.⛈ Poppy, his friends and all your kitties are welcome on the ark (hubs, too).
Along with the jewelry, I want that woman’s face. Not one line or mark – lovely!✨
Waiting for a handyman to come and fix the wooden railing on the front landing outside. Hope it works and I don’t have to get a new one. This is anchored into cement so not an easy job. I may need more than one drink tonight.🍷🙄🍸
Not much planned for the weekend so I guess I’ll lay low. Like you, I will do this and that around the house, always something…. Special hugs to you and Poppy.🤗💖

BRING FLOWERS TO SOMEONE DAY
April showers mean May 15 is Bring Flowers to Someone Day to celebrate why giving flowers plays a significant role in kindness.
Flowers are one of nature’s most beautiful gifts. Bring Flowers to Someone Day is the perfect way to give the gift of love and kindness to those around you. Whether you gift flowers to show sympathy or give them just because the simple act of giving flowers brings joy to the recipient.
The act of giving flowers has been a custom dating back to ancient times. History documents flowers as an important part of the social customs of Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman cultures. In fact, Greek mythology contains references of giving flowers relating to gods and goddesses. During the Middle Ages, the English and French said there was a meaning behind flowers that determined when a flower was given.
In the 1950s, American archaeologist Ralph Solecki and his team found evidence of giving flowers. During an excavation in Iraqi Kurdistan, the team found remains of Neanderthals 200,000 years old. One of the sites showed evidence of flowers embedded in the burial sites. Though the expedition remains under question today, the dig does in fact prove flowers have been a part of the burial process for ages.
The Victorian era seems to be the beginning of giving flowers as a demonstration of feelings. During this time, it was not customary for people to “show” their emotions or feelings. In fact, portraying emotions was bad manners. However, giving flowers was a way to express feelings about a person or situation. In addition, there were rules attached to flower giving. For instance, if someone gave a bouquet of roses to another and presented them upside down, the receiver would assume the flowers were given out of anger.
What is Floriography? In technical terms, Floriography is the language of flowers. For centuries, cultures have said flowers tell a story based on the meaning of the flower. Each flower carries a special meaning with certain symbolism behind the flower. Today, florists use Floriography when designing flowers for any occasion to ensure the flowers chosen have significant meaning in the arrangement.
10 FLOWER MEANINGS
Baby’s breath – Everlasting love
White Carnations – Incense and purity
Yellow Carnations – Sadness or gloom
Calla Lilies – Beauty
Daisies – Loyalty
Gardenias – Secret love
Magnolias – Lover of nature
Peonies – Happy
Sunflowers – Adoring
Yellow Tulips – Bright smile -
NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CHIP DAY
On May 15th, we recognize a morsel of a thing on National Chocolate Chip Day!
Have you ever wondered how a single ingredient would change a recipe? If it weren’t for one curious baker, it would be hard to imagine where we would be without the invention of chocolate chips.
In 1937, Ruth Graves Wakefield of Whitman Massachusetts must have been curious about what a little bit of chocolate would add to her cookies. While working at the Toll House Inn, she added cut-up chunks of a semi-sweet Nestle chocolate bar to a cookie recipe. The cookies were a huge success and in 1939 Wakefield signed an agreement with Nestle to add her recipe to the chocolate bar’s packaging. In exchange for the recipe, Wakefield received a lifetime supply of chocolate. The Nestle brand Toll House cookies were named for the Inn.
Nestle initially included a small chopping tool with the chocolate bars, too. Starting in 1941, Nestle and other competitors started selling the chocolate in chip or morsel form. For the first time, bakers began making chocolate chip cookies without chopping up the chocolate bar first.
Chocolate chips originally came in semi-sweet. Later, chocolate producers began offering bittersweet, semi-sweet, mint, white chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and white and dark swirled. Today, chips also come in a variety of other flavors that bakers and candy makers use creatively in their kitchens.
While cookies may be the first treat to come to mind, imagination is really the only thing limiting how chocolate chips can be used in baking and candy making. Even savory dishes feature chocolate chips in a variety of ways, too. Had Ruth Graves Wakefield never wondered what a few chopped up chunks of chocolate would be like in her baking, we wouldn’t even have chocolate chip cookies.

“When asked to reveal her beauty secrets, actress Audrey Hepburn wrote this poem, which was read at her funeral: “To have attractive lips, say kind words. To have beautiful eyes, look at what people have beautiful in them. To stay thin, share the meal with those who are hungry. To have beautiful hair, let a child run his hand through your hair every day. To have a good expectation, to go knowing that you are never alone, but together with those who love you and have loved you. People, even more than objects, must be repaired, pampered, revived, reclaimed and saved: never reject anyone. Think about it: If you ever need a helping hand, you’ll find one at the end of every arm. As you grow older, you will realize that you have two hands, one to help yourself, the other to help those who need it. A woman’s beauty is not in the clothes she wears, her face or the way she does her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because they are the open door to her heart, the source of her love. The beauty of a woman is not in her makeup, but in the true beauty of her soul. It is the tenderness it gives, the love, the passion it expresses. A woman’s beauty develops with the years.” She was born on May 4, 1929 (d. 1993)” Source: Gabriela Manescu

I was able to sign in, but Community is a bit “wonky.” HSN COMMUNITY is right above “post a reply.” Guess I’m not out of the woods on this one, just yet. Customer Service is saying it is probably my computer doing it’s thing. However, I have cleaned and cleared everything, checked the virus softwares again today. As of now, everything looks OK.
My hubby is in the “doghouse.” Two days ago, I was in a hurry to see him and had keys for the auto in hand as I signed in at the reception desk and took the paper thing that said “visitor.” Got to his room and put everything on the tray table which was beside his bed. He asked for something which was in the dresser and while I was there he took my keys. When I returned and sat down, I heard something fall and could not find what it was until I spied the remote for the bed on the floor. I assumed that was what I heard. Being, I wanted to head home earlier than most evenings, I rummaged in my purse for the keys. They weren’t in the pocket where they should have been. I emptied everything out and then shook the purse upside down to make sure everything was out. No keys. I went to the nurse’s station thinking that someone turned them in. Nothing. Tried the reception area. Nothing. I then went to the car to see if I left them there. The doors were locked telling me that I had locked up before entering the rehab. Went back to hubby’s room and let him know that the keys weren’t around. By this time, the aid had entered to help hubby get ready for the night. He needed the tray and thus when he moved the tray, the keys were beside the back wheel. Hubby was all smiles. Me, I was livid, but realized he was trying everything in his power to get me to stay the night. Hmmm…….
-
I will check with HSN and see if this thread is part of the problem. I have been working
and posting on other threads and I don’t have the problem. The site is wonky for sure. I know this thread everyone watch it like a hawk. 😎
Sorry for what your husband did last night. I would have done the same thing.💕🎈
-
Hi Oodiebom, that HSN post a reply banner has been right across everything for a couple of days now. It isn’t your computer, it is HSN. Probably no one has complained because this is the only Thread with pictures on it, it doesn’t really get in the way if you are only reading, but you can’t see the pictures with the banner running straight across them. Take care. 😊
-
Hi and thanx for the update. Finally able to sign in and I think the entire problem is with HSN and that includes the Arcade. I did my part. Just glad that I was able to rid the computer of the viruses. Just hope no one else is seeing these problems.
Take care pookie. It’s always good to hear from you. Hope all is well. Knock on wood, hubby is doing well without the catheter. You were right on. 😃😃😃

Good morning in S. California. 🎈😎😎Taci my apologies for my error in reading your post

has been high. I don’t blame you about carrying the bikes over boulders. I can ride but
I cannot lift up heavy objects.Taci we are still raining and will continue all week. I know the grass and flowers will look
beautiful mother nature does a great job with her natural resources. 😘😎Hey Happy Trails To You. 🎶🎶

Sheba, no worries. I thought it was funny because hubs is still a bit tired from it. Sounds like lots of April Showers in May for Oz. We have been overcast and cool here. Today, and all week so far, I hiked back at the location where I had the close encounter. with a big ole cat. Now I go where most people are throughout the day and where the dog walkers go to avoid any surprises, No guarantee but far so good.

NATIONAL DANCE LIKE A CHICKEN DAY
National Dance Like a Chicken Day on May 14th encourages everyone to dance like a chicken! This day entertains from start to finish with people flapping their arms and strutting chicken-like. Everyone has probably danced the “Chicken Dance”at least once in their lifetime. This silly fun song is popular at wedding dances, Oktoberfest, and other celebrations, too. The song gets people of all ages up and moving on the dance floor.
Written in the 1950s by Werner Thomas, a Swiss accordionist, the Chicken Dance didn’t even make it to the United States until sometime in the 1970s. The Chicken Dance is associated with polkas or oom-pah-pah music. Originally written with the name Der Ententanz (The Duck Dance), rumors suggest the song was written as a drinking song for Oktoberfest. The song’s title later changed to Vogeltanz (The Bird Dance).
Upon arriving in America in the 1970s, the song acquired choreography with repetitive beak, wing, and tail motions, as well as the new name, The Chicken Dance.

NATIONAL BUTTERMILK BISCUIT DAY | May 14
May 14th ushers in National Buttermilk Biscuit Day to celebrate this high-rising breakfast staple.
Biscuits are made using baking powder or baking soda as a leavening agent rather than yeast. A typicalbuttermilk biscuit recipe contains flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, butter, and buttermilk. They are often referred to as a “quick bread,” indicating they do not need time to rise before baking. While being made, the dough is beaten and folded to incorporate air, which expands while baking, causing the biscuit to rise.
Before the American Civil War, biscuits emerged as an inexpensive addition to meals. This sturdier bread product soon became popular as people realized it absorbed the gravy on their plate better than plain bread. Soon a new family favorite, biscuits, and gravy, was created.
Alexander P. Ashbourne patented the first biscuit cutter in 1875.
Supermarkets offer canned biscuits that are refrigerated until ready to be baked. In 1931, Ballard and Ballard patented these refrigerator biscuits.
Biscuits have been a staple of the Southern United States cuisine for many years and are often made with buttermilk. Traditionally served as a side dish with butter, they are also served at breakfast with molasses, light sugarcane syrup, maple syrup, sorghum syrup, honey, jam, or jelly, or as a breakfast sandwich.

NATIONAL UNDERGROUND AMERICA DAY | May 14
On May 14th, National Underground America Day recognizes the approximately 6,000 people who live in some form of underground architecture across North America. The observance also celebrates the lifestyle, architecture, and benefits of underground living.
Subterranean living boasts energy conservation as one of its top advantages. Completely covered homes or earth-sheltered homes are covered on all sides with soil while earth-bermed homes leave one side exposed. Both allow for more stable temperatures within the home and less exposure to the elements.
However, living in an underground home also poses some disadvantages. If you like lots of light and throwing open the windows on a summer day, this type of house might not be for you. While the underground lifestyle may not be for everyone, the observance encourages exploring earth homes to discover the options available.

Now I’m on my way
It doesn’t matter to me
Chasing the clouds away
Something calls to me
The trees are drawing me near
I’ve got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh
I’m looking at myself reflections of my mind
It’s just the kind of day to leave myself behind
So gently swaying through the fairyland of love
If you’ll just come with me you’ll see the beauty of
Tuesday afternoon
Tuesday afternoon
Tuesday afternoon
I’m just beginning to see
Now I’m on my way
It doesn’t matter to me
Chasing the clouds away
Something calls to me
The trees are drawing me near
I’ve got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh -

Haha not 4 miles, the actual trail was 4 hours, at some points they had to carry bikes over boulders. I can’t do that type of ride as it’s too long, hot, and cliffy. They were very tired. She’s A Lady
Song by Tom JonesWell, she’s all you’d ever want
She’s the kind I like to flaunt and take to dinner
But she always knows her place
She’s got style, she’s got grace, she’s a winner
She’s a lady
Oh, whoa, whoa, she’s a lady
Talkin’ about that little lady
And the lady is mine
Well, she’s never in the way
Always something nice to say, and what a blessin’
I can leave her on her own
Knowin’ she’s okay alone and there’s no messin’
She’s a lady
Oh, whoa, whoa, she’s a lady
Talkin’ about that little lady
And the lady is mine
Well, she never asks very much
And I don’t refuse her
Always treat her with respect
I never would abuse her
What she’s got is hard to find
And I don’t want to lose her
Help me build a mountain
From a little pile of clay, hey hey hey
Well, she knows what I’m about
She can take what I dish out, and that’s not easy
But she knows me through and through
And she knows just what to do and how to please me
She’s a lady
Oh, whoa, whoa, she’s a lady
Talkin’ about that little lady
And the lady is mine
Yeah, yeah, yeah, she’s a lady
Oh, whoa, whoa, she’s a lady
Listen to me people she’s a lady
Yeah yeah yeah yeah she’s a lady
Whoa whoa whoa she’s a lady
Talkin’ about the little lady
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa
She’s a lady
Yeah yeah yeah she’s a lady
Whoa whoa lord, she’s a lady
I can’t live without that
She’s a lady
Ooh ooh she’s a lady -

NATIONAL CROUTON DAY
National Crouton Day on May 13th each year recognizes a tasty topping that shouldn’t be overlooked.
Many of our words for bread-related foods come from the French and for good reason. The French love bread. Croutons are no different. The French word croûte means crust. Croutons are often made from day-old bread which has been cut into cubes and seasoned with herbs, oil, or butter. The bread is then either toasted in the oven or tossed in a hot pan until crunchy.
We’re probably most familiar with croutons on our salads. And when we add croutons to our salads, it’s a bit of celebration – a crunch celebration. Each flavorful, crunchy bite adds to our crispy, enjoyment.

NATIONAL APPLE PIE DAY
National Apple Pie Day, America’s favorite dessert, is observed annually on May 13th.
The first apple pie recipe printed was in England in 1381. The list of ingredients included good apples, good spices, figs, raisins, pears, saffron, and cofyn (a type of pastry crust).
While the apple pie existed well before the Pilgrims landed on the eastern shores of what is now The United States, Americans wax poetic about how American apple pie is. The phrase “as American as apple pie” has been around for more than 100 years.
During the turn of the 20th century when whole toasted cereals were becoming the ‘health food’ fad, pie gained a bad reputation. Apple pie saved the day of sorts, being more nutritious than other pies according to some.
Teddy Roosevelt was impressed to have a taste of home when he was served an American apple pie while traveling in Africa.
Soldiers during World War II were often quoted they were fighting “for Mom and apple pie.” In 1970, advertisers used the patriotic connection with a commercial jingle “Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet.”
-
NATIONAL WOMEN’S CHECKUP DAY
National Women’s Checkup Day on the second Monday in May each year focuses on the importance of regular routine visits for women.
As part of National Women’s Health Week, the observance provides ways to help women take steps to maintain better health. Routine health checkups provide an opportunity to catch problems before they become unmanageable. Speaking with your physician about risk factors, early signs and symptoms and concerns can help to alleviate minor daily issues and identify issues to watch. Additionally, your physician can recommend screenings and order baseline tests that can be used for comparison at a later time.
Yearly well-woman visits are important and should include discussions of your health habits and family history, setting health goals, and scheduling or receiving screenings or necessary exams. Screening would include blood pressure, cholesterol, cervical cancer, and others.

NATIONAL FRUIT COCKTAIL DAY
If you’ve been celebrating the food holidays routinely, National Fruit Cocktail Day on May 13th may be a way to improve the calorie count. Many of us have childhood memories of a dish of fruit cocktail regularly served with a meal.
Fruit cocktail consists of various kinds of fruit served in a liquid of its juices or syrup. While we purchase it in cans and individual serving cups, we can also make it fresh with berries and other fruits. Cafeterias serve fruit cocktail as a healthy fruit option in schools and at buffets, too.
Even though the word cocktail is in the name, fruit cocktail contains no alcohol. The term itself refers to a mixture and can be food or spirits. For example, the secondary definition of a cocktail is “An appetizer made by combining pieces of food, such as fruit or seafood.”
In the United States, the USDA stipulates that canned fruit cocktail must contain certain percentages of pears, grapes, cherries, peaches, and pineapples.
William Vere Cruess of the University of California, Berkeley, and also Herbert Gray of the Barron-Gray Packing Company, San Jose, California have both been credited with the invention of fruit cocktail.

NATIONAL FROG JUMPING DAY
Observed each year on May 13th, National Frog Jumping Day is a favorite of young and old alike.
In 1865, Mark Twain published his first short story, Jim Smiley and His Jumping Frog. Later, he changed the name and published it as The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. This same story also had a third title, The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.
The current frog jumping record was set in 1986 by Rosie the Ribeter, who jumped 21 feet, 5-3/4 inches.
While fans of Mark Twain or perhaps the Calaveras County Fair might have you believe frog jumping competitions only happen in Calaveras County, that’s just not true. They happen throughout the country and with more frequency than one might expect. Frog jumping contests happened in other states and municipalities in 1865 and the events take place across borders in the last century and this one, too. You might even know of one where you live, say in Michigan or Florida or Idaho.
However, we might have to concede, the most well-known might be the Calaveras County Frog Jumping Contest if for no other reason than Mark Twain wrote a story about it, and the author became well-known and loved for his stories.

The Bangles Lyrics
“Manic Monday”Six o’clock already
I was just in the middle of a dream
I was kissin’ Valentino
By a crystal blue Italian stream
But I can’t be late
‘Cause then I guess I just won’t get paid
These are the days
When you wish your bed was already madeIt’s just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
‘Cause that’s my fun day
My “I don’t have to run” day
It’s just another manic MondayHave to catch an early train
Got to be to work by nine
And if I had an airplane
I still couldn’t make it on time
‘Cause it takes me so long just to figure out
What I’m gonna wear
Blame it on the train
But the boss is already thereIt’s just another manic Monday
Wish it was Sunday
‘Cause that’s my fun day
My “I don’t have to run” day
It’s just another manic MondayAll of my nights
Why did my lover have to pick last night
To get down?
(Last night, last night)
Doesn’t it matter
That I have to feed the both of us
Employment’s down
He tells me in his bedroom voice
“C’mon honey, let’s go make some noise”
Time it goes so fast
(When you’re having fun)It’s just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
‘Cause that’s my fun day
“I don’t have to run” dayIt’s just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
‘Cause that’s my fun day
It’s just a manic MondayWritten by Prince

-
Good morning in sunny Florida I am wishing you and hubby a great Monday. 😎🎈
Xango I don’t know what is going on but it is concerning. If you are taking a much needed
break than I hope you are having a great time. All we want to know is if you are alright.
You know me I will ask about the family. 💕🎈😎 I am praying for you to be very well.Take care care my friend. 🎈
-
Good day on the Gulf Coast of Florida. 🎈😎Oodie how is your day going so far?
I know you had a rather busy weekend.I hope your husband enjoyed the Piano. 💕🎈
I had a really good Mother’s Day and our children were very generous they even ordered
our meals from my favorite Italian Restaurant. I was really surprised they went all out. 💕I hope KP is one and done for you. OZ is a bit cloudy and we are a cool 64 degrees the
flowers and plants are loving it. 💕😎Oodie I am doing this and that today never a dull moment. LOL! I don’t think any woman
has a dull moment when it comes to our homes. 💕Oodie enjoy the day and your husband I can’t wait for him to get home to you.
-
Hi. I was able to sign in. Seems I get a small window of opportunity and then it vanishes like the wind. For now, all seems OK.
I haven’t brought the piano to hubby as yet. The reason is that there is no place to hide it and if I leave it anywhere in the room, it could stand a good chance of being stolen. Right now, I am thinking of a way to carry the piano and stand back and forth.
I was told that hubby would be starting Physical therapy again last week. When I questioned him he said nothing as yet. I also mentioned that when this starts it would be the last part of the puzzle to bring him home. Huge smile followed. He will need to be able to stand on one leg so he can get from bed to wheelchair and vice versa. It will also enable him to use the toilet since I will have bars nailed into the base of the toilet. Getting into a shower may be questionable, though I have seen a chair that can get down to the floor level and go up 21″ with a remote. This chair is also waterproofed along with the remote. I will just need to make an adjustment to the shower to make it a walk-in. I have checked the walk-in tub and there is a lip to climb over. Not sure if hubby will be able to do this. I am covering all avenues and then some. His main goal right now is to shop at Costco and the Farmer’s Market. Farmer’s Market would be easy compared to Costco in that the electrical carts are at the curb.
Tomorrow have a haircut appointment. I look like a wild person with hair going ever y which way. Itreally needs a good trim.
I hear you had a great Mother’s Day and your kids gave you a real nice surprise. To have a day off from cooking and cleaning and doing things you enjoy—-need I say more.
Last night I got a surprise. Three huge signs orange and yellow telling me to detour. No fun. This was not supposed to start before today. Anyway, the road backtracked to a route number and then I knew where I was. Took me an extra 20 minutes to get home. Oh well. Tonight I will take the route I was going to use for the next month or so. Hopefully, this one will not have those orange and yellow signs. Thank goodness I know where I’m going.
I received the HD “At the Beach.” Really pretty. I will wear it sometime this week for hubby. He loves the dazzling artistry. Well, time to get ready for my daily jaunt. Have a great evening and enjoy the moonlight with Poppy.
-
Good evening OZ is raining like cray cray. The cats managed to get on the porch and grab
the food and get out of the rain.I know how you feel about your husband’s piano. Oodie in this day and age people will
take anything they can get their hands on when out in a public or open place. So sad.I feel that is a lot for you to carry around unless you can do it for a special event or just
because. 💕😘 I think it will do him a world of good and maybe those around him including
staff may appreciate the music. 🎶🎶Treat yourself to a nice hair cut and style. I had some beauty treatments this weekend and
I felt a world of difference. I have a habit of trying to do too much and then when I look in
the mirror I am like wait a minute I don’t think so. LOL!I don’t know about all those signs in Florida affecting your drive home but here in Kansas
they are fixing highways and getting around can be a PITA. 😎We are almost 58 degrees tonight with cold rain. I had to take more food out and the cold
rain made me do it in a hurry. Poppy was not amused. I bet those other critters will be around
if anything is left they are welcome to it.My plants and flowers bloom better in the rain. 💕
-
Good morning in S. California and may this post find you doing well on this Monday. 💕😎🎈
Taci I hope you had a nice Mother’s Day. 😎🎈 Glad you had a nice getaway.
My niece is working on her second Master’s Degree there she wants to teach a certain
subject and she needs that degree. 💕Oz is raining and cloudy and I will long for day like this in the dog days of summer. LOL! 😎
Hey have a fun day on the Trails and who knows who you meet and greet along the way.
-
Sheba, Mothers Day was nice, and quiet. I can’t go out to eat with the crowds and enjoyed a nice day home and hiking. Hope your Mothers Day was a great one.
I don’t know how you sort the food for the cats from the raccoons from the coyotes and other critters. Maybe you will be feeding the forest soon.
My husband and son went on a long bike ride today. The bike trail was about 4 hours. They had to go now as it gets too hot to go very soon.
Have a great week! -
Good day in the ‘burgh. How are you doing today? Hope you had a nice time with your
mom and family. 🎈I hope you saw a slight peek at the Northern Lights. 😎
I am doing this and that around the house. I am pleased with the work hubby and I did
over the weekend it really looks wonderful. 🎈I am referring to the outdoors yards and then
some.Sending sweet cool hugs to you and Jake. 😘😎
-
Glad you had a wonderful Mother’s Day. We are going out with mom and sis tomorrow to a seafood restaurant so shrimp, lobster, scallops, crab will be on the menu and around the table.🦐🦞🦀
Finally finished the flowers today.🌻🌼 Beautiful day, sunny and upper 70’s. More rain this week, I’ll be building an ark soon and floating pass your house. How is your brother feeling?
Enjoy your walk this evening, hugs to you and Poppy.🤗💖
-
Lady you are right about an Ark. 😎We will rain all week and we had a good amount last
week. I keep checking the sump pump and I always look up for falling trees.Lady when I walk Poppy he is a fast moving dog and so am I. LOL! 😎😘
I don’t let weather affect us too much we just dress the part. The one thing I have learned
is not to mess with ICE. The fall I had was knocker I can dance, skate and balance myself
very well. I was looking for my neighbor’s paper and I was not paying attention around me.
I was watching Poppy as we started out of the driveway and the next thing I knew I hit my
head on hard concrete and Ice. My son was here at the time and did not hear me. I was
able to get up and walk so that was a good sign but son made me call my private doctor
and they told me what to do and what to look out for. Honest the Bump was the size of
a Goose Egg in the very back it took a minute to go down and I was home free I even seen
a doctor since then. I think falling for anyone is no joke. I carry my cell phone in my pocket
as I wear leggings with pockets so I can handle Poppy’s leash. God was looking out for me
that day a lot of people went to the Hospital that day it was really bad. This is for you and hubby to enjoy sweet dreams. 😘💕
-
Good morning Kitten and may this Monday be a good one for you and the kitties. 😎😘🎈

MOTHER’SDAY
Mother’s Day is a time-honored tradition of recognizing the women in our lives who raised us, dried our tears, and well, mothered us. Everyone has one or has someone who is like a mother to them. On the second Sunday of May, we honor those women who are our mothers. Whether we shower her with gifts, take her to a fancy dinner or make her a homemade card, what moms want most is to be surrounded by the love of her family. Knowing the people they love are safe, sound, and healthy is a mom’s number one priority.

NATIONAL FIBROMYALGIA AWARENESS DAY
Each year on May 12th, millions of people observe National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day. This day shares the spotlight with other May 12th awareness days such asInternational Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, International Awareness Day for Chronic Immunological and Neurological Diseases or International Awareness Day for MCS, ME/CFS and FM, which are observed globally.

NATIONAL NUTTY FUDGE DAY
Each year on May 12th, National Nutty Fudge Day tempts you to indulge in smooth chocolate fudge filled with crunchy nuts.
A Western confection, fudge is usually sweet and delicious. It consists of combining sugar, butter, and milk, heating it to the correct temperature, and then mixing it while it cools to a smooth, creamy consistency. There are many varieties and flavors of fudge, with chocolate being the most popular.
In 1886, a letter was found written by Emelyn Bettersby Hartridge a Vassar College student in Poughkeepsie, NY about her Baltimore, MD cousin. It referred to a fudge her cousin had made and sold for 40 cents per pound. Hartridge obtained the recipe, and in 1888, she made 30 pounds of fudge for the Vassar College Senior Auction.
Late in the 19th century, some shops on Mackinac Island, Michigan, began to produce similar products as the Vassar College fudge and sold it to summer vacationers. Fudge is still made in some of the original shops there today.
Many candy makers include pecans and walnuts when they prepare their fudge. As a celebratory treat, fudge makes a delicious gift. It packages well and recipients are often overjoyed to receive homemade fudge.

NATIONAL DOG MOM’S DAY
During the second Saturday in May, National Dog Mom’s Day sends out a chorus of yips, barks, and howls of praise for all the dog mommas!
Our dogs are our family members, whether they came into our lives unexpectedly or as carefully planned additions. We adopt them as puppies, adolescents, or fully mature animals with a bit of baggage, and yet, we find common ground, a connection, and bond like families do. They know our moods, and we know theirs. We care for them, shelter them, and share an immeasurable loyalty with them.
National Dog Mom’s Day recognizes the bond women share with their fur kids. When they humor us, charm us or even when they are naughty, they are like any other child to us.
-
STAMP OUT HUNGER FOOD DRIVE DAY
The second Saturday in May is the largest one-day food drive in the nation named Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Day. How is it possible? It occurs in more than 10,000 cities and towns, and the food is collected by those men and women carrying our mail across the country.
As they deliver to you mail order parts, bills, and postcards, you get to do your part by filling their mailbag with non-perishable food donations.
Over the last 20 years, one billion pounds of food has been delivered by this drive which is sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers. The letter carriers representing the NALC receive help from rural letter carriers, other postal employees, and other volunteers. The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has received a number of accolades over the years, including two Presidential Certificates of Achievement.

NATIONAL EAT WHAT YOU WANT DAY
Observed annually on May 11th, National Eat What You Want Day sets diets aside for a day of indulgence. It’s about having one day a year of eating with no regrets. Whether you love donuts or fast food, today is your day to gratify without feeling guilty.
Chili cheese dogs, greasy hamburgers, french fries, potato chips, cake, cookies, candy, and ice cream are just a few of the things you can enjoy today without remorse. Decadent food is definitely on the menu today. The saying, “Everything in moderation” applies to this holiday quite aptly. Though, we’re not quite sure they meant EVERYTHING at the same time.
However, a sample of this and a sample of that sure has a way of satisfying a sweet tooth or a greasy yearning. Need a salt fix? This holiday offers it. How about a crunch craving? Yep, we’re sure you can find what you’re looking for. Whether it is a rich, fried or fast, frozen, baked, or spicy eat what you want.
Some of us have that one irresistible food that we avoid at all costs because we know if it’s in the house we’ll eat it all. It’s our weakness, our kryptonite. This holiday suggests that we bend to our kryptonite just this one time each year.
-
NATIONAL TWILIGHT ZONE DAY
Always observed on May 11th, National Twilight Zone Day features mysterious twists and turns highlighted with eerie background music and unexplainable occurrences. The television show The Twilight Zone was created, written, and narrated by Rod Serling. It premiered on October 1, 1959. The episodes were wildly popular, stretched the imagination, and captivated viewers. The show aired from 1959-1964. Rod Serling also created the show’s spin-off called Night Gallery.
Each episode presented unique stories that led the viewer on a journey into an unknown situation. The characters often revealed their backstories through intense exchanges. Settings ranged from the wild west to penthouse suites. And yet each story took place in the 5th dimension, in The Twilight Zone.
-
NATIONAL BIRTH MOTHER’S DAY
National Birth Mother’s Day on the Saturday before Mother’s Day honors birth mothers and offers a show of support. It is a day to recognize the biological mothers of adopted children.
Each birth mother’s experience is personal. While the day originated as a day of solidarity, education, and compassion, it has evolved and may be received with a mixture of emotions. It may also be viewed as a celebration of the life a birth mother has brought into the world and has chosen to share with another family. Children of adoption may even also participate in the day, celebrating their birth mothers and the life they gave them.

NATIONAL CLEAN UP YOUR ROOM DAY
Spring cleaners get their wish granted each year when National Clean Up Your Room Day arrives on May 10th. Children often dread this parent-appreciated day. Though, some years, the observance arrives with perfect timing for Mother’s Day!
However, the observance doesn’t only target kids. It is also about picking up, straightening up, and cleaning up the whole house. Adults take spring cleaning seriously, and homes get aired out. They organize, de-clutter, and rearrange. It’s time to fix the broken and match up missing parts, like with like. We tackle cluttered closets and donate or throw away those things we no longer use. Help your children make their beds, clean their rooms, and eliminate the toys and clothing they have outgrown.
The day helps garages, sheds, and cabinets see the light of day. Drawers, closets (did we say that already), and under the bed get thoroughly organized. Find ways to repurpose items around the house, too. Look at old things in new ways:
Use an old towel bar on your potting bench and hang S hooks to store your tools.
Broken dresser drawers become bookshelves or under-bed storage.
How many ways can you repurpose an unused wine rack? storage for towels in the bathroom take it to the craft area for all the small tools, glue and yarn store water bottles and travel mugs
Tissue boxes make terrific storage for plastic bags, but they also work well for used dryer sheets. Reuse the dryer sheets to wipe down the washer and dryer to keep it dust-free and clean out the lint trap.
Use old magazine racks to store cutting boards, baking sheets, and other flat kitchen items. -

NATIONAL MILITARY SPOUSE APPRECIATION DAY
Always the Friday before Mother’s Day, National Military Spouse Appreciation Day recognizes the significant contributions, support, and sacrifices of the spouses of the Armed Forces. National Military Spouse Appreciation Day is also sometimes known as Military Spouse Day.
Along with the tremendous strength and patriotism they have, military spouses endure frequent change and unexpected developments in their lives. They prepare for many unknowns during military life, often unable to make a plan for more than a few days in advance. The hold down the home front during deployments, training, and many other circumstances while their husband or wife serve their country. Depending on the length of service, they may move many times and often all over the world. Military spouses also spend many months apart during stressful deployments with limited communication or for training.
But they bear these responsibilities by caring for and relying on family. With every move, they find a new job, help their children adjust to new schools and friends. They learn about a new community and its culture. During separations, they celebrate holidays at unusual times or host long-distance birthday parties. By supporting our service members and ensuring a sound home, our military is stronger and more prepared.

NATIONAL SHRIMP DAY
Each year on May 10th, National Shrimp Day recognizes America’s favorite seafood. Americans eat moreshrimp than any other seafood, and this is the day to celebrate this delicious seafood.
We use the word “prawn” loosely to describe any large shrimp, sometimes known as “jumbo shrimp.” Some countries use the word “prawn” exclusively for all shrimp.
Preparing the shrimp for consumption usually involves removing the head, shell, tail, and “sand vein.” There are many ways to cook shrimp. Standard methods of preparation include baking, boiling, broiling, sauteing, frying, and grilling. Cooking time is delicate for shrimp, and they are at their best when not overcooked.
Ahealthy food, shrimp, is low in calories and high in omega-3, calcium, iodine, and protein levels. Shrimp is also known to be considered good for the circulatory system.
Popular North America Shrimp Dishes:
Seafood Gumbo: A stew or soup that probably originated in southern Louisiana during the 18th century. Seafood gumbo typically consists of a strongly-flavored stock, shrimp and crab meat (sometimes oysters), a thickener, and seasoning vegetables. Cooks categorize Gumbo by the type of thickener used: okra, the Choctaw spice, file powder (dried and ground sassafras leaves), or roux, the French base made of flour and fat.
Shrimp Cocktail: The Golden Gate served shrimp cocktails before any other restaurant. Their menu listed shrimp cocktails for .50 cents in 1959. It is now a Las Vegas cliché. Called the “Original Shrimp Cocktail” on the menu, it is a favorite among tourists and the locals. The original Shrimp Cocktail consists of a regular-sized sundae glass filled with small salad shrimp and topped with a dollop of cocktail sauce.
Shrimp DeJonghe: A specialty of Chicago, it is a casserole of the whole, peeled shrimp blanketed in soft, garlic, sherry-laced bread crumbs. Restaurants often serve it as an appetizer or a main course. It originated in the late 19th or early 20th century at the DeJonghe’s Hotel and Restaurant.Shrimp Scampi: This dish has its own day onApril 29,and it is cooked in butter, garlic, lemon juice, and white wine.
Shrimp and other shellfish are among the most common food allergens.

NATIONAL PROVIDER APPRECIATION DAY
National Provider Appreciation Day, also known as National Child Care Provider Day, is annually celebrated on the Friday before Mother’s Day. The special day recognizes child care providers, teachers, and other educators of young children everywhere.
Child care providers deserve a big “Thank you” for their dedication, commitment, and compassion. Less than one-third of the children in America have a full-time stay-at-home parent. Since the child care provider is a partner in raising children, parents carefully choose their child care provider. It may be a private home daycare, a daycare center, an in-home provider, or a live-in nanny. Parents put their trust in their childcare providers as they share child-rearing responsibilities with them.

I still cannot sign in. I know you also enjoy playing in the Arcade. I am giving you and everyone else a head’s up. Be aware. Make sure you check and recheck the entire area. My virus software notified me that there were problems and I immediately ran the software which took hours.
I am having kitchen problems. I have not been able to use the dishwasher. When you open it, it smells soapy. The disposal does not run so will have it removed. Yes,I have tried the reset button and also tried turning the underneath area to no avail. For some reason it does not connect with the electrical. Second time this has happened. It’s under a year.
Had a phone call yesterday from the Rehab. Hubby started physical therapy again. From what I gathered they will be trying to get him to stand and maybe take a few steps. They will also teach him how to use his hands more. Sounds good. I hope he practices.
I will try to bring the piano today. Cool down, well sort of, begins today. Temps will remain high. But with less humidity. Take care. Stay safe.

I have re-read your post I am so sorry about the KP. I wish I were an electrician. ✨
Oodie you are good at getting busy with any problem you seem to be on the right
track about the dishwasher I would call a service person to see if this can be fix at
a reasonable price.I do hope the PT works for your husband he needs to come home.🌹
I am paying attention to the Arcade issues after reading about your experience
I will lay off for now. I hope HSN can fix whatever the issue is.✨Oz is a beautiful night and I hope to get a glimpse of the aurora borealis.
The weather people say we may be able to see it over the next three nights.
I would settle for one. 😎🌹This solar storm will be intense and some will be without power.
I hope you are able to see and enjoy it. I have a baby possum on the porch drinking
water. I will let him have water as I put it in a different bowl.Oodie wishing you a nice cool night. ✨🌹

To get an idea of what I was really going through, I posted to the Customer Service thread either Tuesday or Wednesday and daily since then. My advice to you and to those who read your thread is to run your virus software when leaving the Arcade area. I do not mean a little scan. You need to do a complete one which in some cases (like mine) take hours or more. It is very scary to have someone follow you as you visit other websites using the same and different browsers. This happened to me years ago with the same game people, Arkadium and another one under E.. When I realized who HSN chose for the Arcade I was scared. However, being that HSN has a Tech Unit and they did their homework, I thought playing would be safe and of course, after seeing Hubby, it quiets the nerves and gives me some relaxation at the end of the day. For now, I will be going elsewhere to play whatever. Also, please remember to turn your computer completely off at the end of day. You have no idea who may be lurking on the web looking to do ham to your computer. I am up and running again, but will not be holding my breath. Tomorrow is another day, Hopefully, I will be able to sign in and shop or do what we call “window shopping.”
I am hoping that we will also have a peak at the Aurora Borealis. When I was in my teens (yesterday), my dad had awaken me so I could watch the sky change colors from red to blues to white and back to the blues. It was breathtaking. Dad was watching the cloud formations as he drove home from work which had to be around midnight. Like you, I hope to have another opportunity. Oh, by the way, as I left the rehab, the moon was a yellowy orange. I hope that it might be an indication of what is to come. I may go out shortly to take a peek, but will first look out of the kitchen window to see if there is anything. Have a nice evening and a great adventure. Take pictures if you can. I will try with Kindle and my phone. Oh, yes, on the new offspring visiting and drinking water. They look awful, but many have become household pets. Me, not sure if I want one near me…….
-
Oodie, hope you see this. The PT and OC were not live-in’s. They were by appt and sometimes came without appts if in the area. Great people.
Hopefully someone at the rehab will have some idea’s, maybe even patients or their relatives?
We also used a visiting nurse but it’s hard to find or impossible, especially if you live in an area with lots of retirees. -
Oodie, sorry you are experiencing some kitchen issues. Wanted to let you know my Mother had PT and Occupational therapy to the house. I think it was covered, as fyi.
Hope you have a lovely Weekend! -
Good morning in S. California you seem to be on the down low lately I hope things are
going alright for you and the family. I also want to wish a Happy Mother’s Day Weekend. 😎🎈💕I know you are thinking of your mother during this time. My heart goes out to you.

Sheba, Hello! Hope you have a wonderful Mothers Day Weekend. I know you will be busy with your lovely children and family. We went for an overnight trip and a long hike. We haven’t done this hike for a while and I felt the elevation. It’s about 1-2 hours drive and then about 2.5 miles winding up and an easy downhill trek afterwards. Saw one healthy coyote running alongside the path in the opposite direction. Views were great.
I will check out the Heidi thread. Loved the beautiful butterfly pin here on HSN and the Chantilly Lace elsewhere… 🙂 Haven’t bought though. ok Yet.
Enjoy your walk with Poppy, hope he keeps the pace up for you. -
I knew you got away even for a day or two it is great on the soul. ✨😎
I have done some planting and it is going great it does tire you out when
you are getting rid of the old soil and put down fresh soil.I am going to take a nice long shower and enjoy the aurora borealis.
No big plans for mother’s day the kids and hubby and I agree to another place
and another time. 😎🌹😘Very nice night for a short walk and this is because we have foxes, coyotes and then
some running around. ✨ -
Sheba, planting and moving soil is hard work. When i dug my older unhealthy plants (3) I felt it in my stomach muscles. This was a good btw as they need some work. I planted just a few tomato plants, one basil, one cilantro, and then moved around some regular type plants. Hubs has been feeding a bunny hanging out in our yard, This is going to sound odd but someone put a newer looking pair of sneakers next to our trash bin. Then someone else walked by sometime before the trash pickup and took a long look at them and then walked off with them. It’s so weird here.
Love security camera’s…. -
Thank you for being so thoughtful. I realize that outside resources are a good possibility and will be covered by insurance. hubby cannot get in or out of bed on his own. Though we can have help, our HOA does not permit a live inr more than two weeks. This has been on the Agenda a number of times and the Board insists that if we need someone as a live in then it’s time to look at assisted living or a convalescent home. Neither of us are ready for this decision. I can give him support if he is able to stand on one leg. I would love to use the pool at the YMCA, however, I need to find a way to get him there. I have been checking some resources. And also looking at slings.
Enjoy your hikes. The next day or so the temps will be up, but the humidity will be lower. Not so sure how that will feel in 90 degree heat and this is only May.

Create a Soft Place to Land
Create a soft place to land in your home — a refuge from the stress of the day.
Our day-to-day demands can quickly take their toll on our well-being if we are not vigilant about caring for ourselves as best we can. One way we can ensure that we have an opportunity to relax and recuperate each day is to create a soft place to land when we arrive home. This landing pad, whether it is an entire room or merely a small corner of an area, can provide us with a safe and comforting refuge in which we can decompress and recover from the day’s stresses. There, we are enveloped in feelings of security that transcend other issues that may be unfolding in our homes. Our landing pads also act as way stations that enable us to shift our attention away from our outer-world concerns and back to our inner-world needs.
To create a soft place to land in your home, begin by scouting potential locations, or perhaps, your entire home is your landing pad in which case you may only need to declutter. Your habits can provide you with insight into the perfect spot, as there may be an area of your home you gravitate to naturally when you are in need of comfort. Any space in which you find it easy to let go of stress and anxiety can become your landing pad. A basement or attic, spare room, or unused storage area, furnished with items that soothe you, can give you the privacy you need to unwind. If you appreciate the natural elements, you may find that spending time in a section of your garden or outdoor patio helps you release the day’s tensions. Preparing these spaces can be as easy as replacing clutter with a small selection of beautiful objects that put you in a relaxed frame of mind. Remember to consider noise and activity levels when choosing the site of your landing pad. If you know that ordinary human commotion will distract you from your purpose, look for a secluded spot.
Your soft place to land should inspire within you the mantra, “I can breathe here. I can relax here. I know I am safe here.” When you return to your home after braving worldly rigors, you will feel a subtle yet tranquil shift occur inside of you as you settle in to this most personal of retreats and feel centered once again.
