Chocolate-covered cherry lovers know how impossible it is to eat just one of these candies. Candy makers combine these two favorite flavors into one delicious treat and it turns into something irresistible. They also often make the candy with a sweet liquid center and in some cases a liqueur filling.

Chocolate covered cherries are also chocolate cordials. They can be either store-bought or homemade. There are many recipes that mimic the flavor of this well-loved candy. Either way, they are known to many as a mid-winter pick-me-up.

During the 1700s in England, cherries were enclosed in chocolate with a little kirsch (cordial) liqueur. After finding their way to the United States, Americans began delighting in the little bit of alcoholic cordial surrounding the fruit dipped in chocolate. Although originally made with the liqueur, cordials, or chocolate-covered cherries are more commonly made with a sugar syrup flavored with cherries. The pitted cherries have been cooked in sugar syrup and jarred.

The Day the Music Died is observed on February 3 every year. It’s the anniversary of the fatal plane crash that killed three important figures in rock and roll.

Musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. Richardson died along with the pilot Roger Peterson in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa. In the thick of winter, the poor flight conditions led to the Peterson losing control of the plane, causing it to crash and claim the lives of all four people on board.

The day was immortalized as The Day the Music Died by musician Don McLean, who sang about the accident in his song ‘American Pie.’

Hello Sheba, it’s good to be able to post. We had that WordPress page a few years back here on HSN, remember? And that’s when they were fixing something and if I recall correctly, it was only for them to sign in and not us customers.
I was reading about you having a frozen pipe and the problems it comes with. When I lived up North it was a constant concern during the Winter. Had to always leave a facet dripping. I am glad that’s being all taken care of and almost done if not all complete now. Is your son still there helping you? I hope so.

I was concerned about you when I read about your fall, hoping nothing serious. But you mentioned you had hit your head, so that was a concern.
Good thing your daughter is vaxxed, and that she is somewhat better.
It will take time and lots of rest.
I too have a family member in another state trying to get better from a virus. Our nice in my hubby’s side and her husband has become sick of Covid-19 to many times to count.
I am also getting better each day, my stomach is able to take a bit of solid food. Baked a small potato, a medium sweet potato and a small piece of butternut squash. Had to cut a tiny piece of each and mash it with a fork in order to eat. food is just having a hard time going down. I make a shake with one banana and half cup of milk in the morning instead of my coffee. No coffee yet, and my body noticed by giving me a headache.
Here’s hoping your area gets better weather. With beautiful sunny days and pleasant temperatures.

Good afternoon on the Gulf Coast of Florida. 😎🎈I have read everyone’s concerns
about signing into the Community. I hope this will be fixed soon or we are told otherwise.

I keep getting dropped so I hope they are working on the issues.

Oodie one of our children has Covid-19 she has never had it before and is fully vaxxed.
I gave her some good mother advise on how to get better over this thing. So far she
is resting and drinking plenty of fluids. I tell you this year has been something else.
Always an issue going on and I don’t have issues like this a lot.

I am thankful the contractors are done with the ceiling and the pipes are fine.
OZ is not bad temp wise but we are very cloudy it feels like 7:00 a.m. in the evening.
Very dark and damp. I already went for a nice walk with Poppy.

We have some projects here and there while I have an extra pair of hands and I fully intend
to make good use of them. 😎

I hope all goes well for your husband. I know he wants to come home. I think we all will
celebrate when that happens. 🎈😎

Like you, I was also concerned with xango. She claimed that she is not computer savvy, so I was ready to give her some directions. Instead she found pookie and that was all she needed to do. I, for one do not care for the double sign in. It takes too long for one, and to remember the code, number 2. I detest writing down a keyword to keep it handy if needed. This means anyone can access your area. Thankfully, my virus software are up to date and I do check multiple things before leaving.

Hubby wants home in the worse way. He is reluctant to have a hospital bed so I am looking at some alternatives that we both can use. Unfortunately, this new mattress may not be conducive to that type of bed, but in that case will put it in the spare bedroom. At this point, I am not sure if we will continue to live in Florida and that is due to the Home Owners Insurance Policy which is now through the roof. Though we have some beautiful days, summer brings many problems to the Gulf Coast. For now, we have a year to decide on that score. One thing I do know is that the new homes being built will be able to take winds up to 100+ mph. But on the other hand, there is nowhere to hide from a tornado since there are no basements due to the high water table. Again, we shall watch and make a decision when the time comes. Meanwhile my first priority is to get hubby home.

Be thankful that all of you are well and enjoy the things you can do. However, my only recommendation is if you decide to move or to find another home where you are, please make the next one a ranch house where there are no steps to ponder. Or, if you do have a second floor, put the master on the first one. This is just in case one or both of you become incapacitated later in life. So sorry I didn’t listen to my parents when the time was right . The Cape house is the only one that can be accessible with a wheelchair and a stair elevator. Probably can use one or two for the raised ranch.

“Great Expectations” is a novel written by Charles Dickens and first published in 1861. The story is about the life and adventures of a young orphan named Pip, who dreams of becoming a gentleman and winning the heart of a wealthy young lady named Estella. Along the way, Pip encounters many colorful characters, including the eccentric Miss Havisham and the mysterious convict Abel Magwitch. The novel is known for its vivid characters, intricate plot, and themes of social class, ambition, and redemption. It is considered one of Dickens’ greatest works and a classic of English literature.

One of my favorite books and movie my parents were not born when the first movie came
out and there are many movies made about this book. 💕😎🎈I like the first movie the best.

There have been a total of 14 adaptations of Great Expectations – nine films and five TV projects. This is of course not counting the many stage adaptations of the novel, through from a 1939 version which starred Alec Guinness to a 2022-2023 one-woman show starring Eddie Izzard.

and they sent her back home to America where she stayed in rehab for months she never

Hello Sheba, I hope this finds you well. I was able to read all your posts, and Iam sorry you had fallen and hit your head. I am glad you are doing better now.

I was reading everyone’s posts and couldn’t imagine why I couldn’t log in to Community. Saying to myself how is it that everyone can sign in, why can’t I.

O my God, could HSN made it more difficult for people to log in to Community? I just figured it out, how to sign in. And that was by reading the small pieces of information that some wrote. I have to say, HSN this is the most thing, two different passwords, one for orders placed and information on your account. And a different password for being able to get into Community. I have been waiting all this time since the system was up to see if they had fixed it. Called customer service several times and no one could say how to get in here.

I finally took a chance and went back to the W page and clicked on the Forgot my password, put in my Email and received a reset password and went back to the W page and did a different/new password and it took. I was able to sing in the Community. Why did HSN kept it a secret rather than place Instructions on the Arcade Rewards page. Not cool HSN, not cool at all.

Sheba, I am better from the fall I had in September. But I have had a sever attack of heartburn for the last four days. Started drinking Aloe Vera and I am starting to get somewhat better. Boy is it painful, my inners feel like broken glass. Last time I had this bad was January 2023.
Well, I just realized I didn’t write down my password for this site 😅. That was not very clever of me.

I have returned from the rehab. Hubby is still coughing, but it is now not that often. He ate a good dinner with two Dixie cups of ice cream. One was strawberry the other chocolate. I also just realized that this coughing situation goes back many many years. In other words, this is nothing new that just sprang up. He will be working with a speech therapist on changing the way he picks up food and how to eat. His coloring is now back to normal. Just hope they change his bed linens tonight. I will be returning tomorrow afternoon. I need to get some work done here. Too many piles on this desk and also will be using my favorite new thing in cleaning the linen closet.

I know you cannot wait for the “new” Arcade to be up and running. If I remember correctly, the last time they revamped this area and promised the new one within a couple of months, it took over 4 months to get the thing going. Why they gave January 1st as a deadline is beyond me. Also, last night I went into Shop HQ and they will be starting an Arcade as well. I wonder if HSN and Shop HQ are doing one and the same. There are also times that I think HSN and QVC are purchasing Shop LC (that’s the Liquidation Channel) since one of their hosts has been seen on QVC. That could explain why the merchandise has gone downhill.

I agree with xango on the extra password for Community. I also tried more than several times to join the conversations. Called CS every few days and all they could say was that they would try to expedite the situation. However, they were able to reach Community from their web page using my old password. They could not understand why I could not. Very frustrating until Pookie came on board and told us how to get on board. It was definitely wrong for the Tech Unit not to post anything in the Community or in the Rewards Store. I thought for sure they were saying “sayanora” to the forum. Thank goodness, this was not the case.

I had a good dinner with hubby. I picked up a tuna salad sandwich on a croissant with a salad. It was delicious. I did not dare give hubby a taste. Will give him time to recuperate from last night’s episode.

Sheba, glad your pipes are fixed. Wow it does sound like a cold winter in Oz. The good side is you get to wear all your lovely sweaters and coats, and so does Poppy ( I imagine).
Went to hike today and it was sprinkling, left for an hour and went back and no one was there. The sun was shining, and the trails were fairly dry. I was spooked since no one was there and did a partial hike, then went to another park (with more people around) and walked. Just as I got home it started to rain hard. The roof is holding up so far.
My son will get home in a few days. I think he wants to go back soon. There is so much to see. Hubs and I are thinking of going there next but we shall see.

Ice cream and cake come together on February 1st in a celebration called National Baked Alaska Day.

An elaborate dessert that is also known as “Omelette Norvegienne,” Baked Alaska is made with hard ice cream on a base of sponge cake and covered in a shell of toasted meringue.

In the United States in 1867, an earnest debate erupted over the potential purchase of Alaska from Russia. Secretary of State William Seward agreed to a purchase price of $7 million, and Alaska became a United States territory in 1868. Those of the opinion that the purchase was a giant mistake referred to the purchase as “Seward’s Folly.”

Enter Charles Ranhofer, the chef at Delmonico’s Restaurant in New York City. He was notorious for naming new and renaming old dishes after famous people and events. Capitalizing on the heated controversy surrounding the purchase in the frozen north, Baked Alaska fit the bill. It was cold, nearly frozen, and quickly toasted in a hot oven before serving.

He served as the chef at Delmonico’s from 1862 to 1896. During his tenure, he also created Lobster Newburg, another famous dish honored with a national food holiday.

Well, it is now February 2nd and if you look at the time, I just returned home. It has been a long and hard day. First off we had a meeting this afternoon with the team from Rehab. This included the head nurse, the chef from the kitchen, one of the administrators, supervisor for physical therapy, and a few others. All in all the team is working with me to get hubby home. And, this is now no longer a dream but reality. As I said previously, it’s when. When I arrived, I was told hubby was in the dining room. He was sitting with two others (both men). One was extremely quiet, the other full of information. This last person is in a wheelchair and we started talking. Found out that Amazon sells ramps and the part I really liked was that some are portable. He has one in his van and mentioned that they are solid and easy to transport. I learned quite a lot at this lunch. Too bad he goes home tomorrow. But, at least I am finding alternatives. Sometime next week I will be contacting our health insurance for a hospital bed or something that resembles one for both of us. And that brings me to the main reason. Before leaving for the rehab, I had skinned a couple of apples and then diced them so he could take small bites. I did the orange but left the skin on. Well, hubby decided to take a handful and proceeded to get into a coughing fit. He has a very small esophagus and because he hasn’t been active, the muscles in the throat are not working that well. The nurse on duty had to siphoned and call the physician. Tomorrow hubby will have a chest x-ray and other x-rays to determine that nothing went into the lungs and that his heart and brain are OK. His oxygen level was good at the rehab. I stayed way after midnight and though I wished to stay longer, could not because of my lab tests After the tests, I will return home for a brief few minutes and then will make a stop at the rehab to meet with the head nurse. Will visit with hubby for a few minutes and then drive to Costco and back to rehab. I am tired, but had to let you know that I am OK. Just do not like driving alone after 10:30 pm and tonight it was after midnight.

Weather here is cool, but not cold. I think the temp this afternoon was in the mid 60s. Both hubby and I sat outside after lunch. It was beautiful and no sweater needed. Leaving rehab a bit chilly, but the heat in the car felt oh so good. And though the week was long for you, your pipes will be OK and you can now be warm and cozy.

Feeling about the same, this is dragging on and on. Trying to eat a little more for energy but it all affects my stomach. Haven’t been to see mom and sis since they will be leaving two weeks from Saturday so don’t want to chance them getting anything. Taking one day at a time but this has to stop soon. I know I won’t get to see the PCP and I hate seeing a stranger. Wish I had a doctor in the family. I do, but she’s a vet, lol!😅

Are you planning a Super Bowl party at your house?🏈 I wish before I die they would change the game to Saturday and everyone could sleep in on Sunday.😴 Makes perfect sense to me.

Thanks for the belated birthday greetings. This one was different in that I spent the day with
hubby in rehab. Hubby thought it was our anniversary and started laughing when I mentioned it was January. He felt so sad stating he wish he could take me out to celebrate. Mentioned that it was not important, but the thought behind it was.

I miss talking to you every day or at least when you can post.

I know you are busy I have a lot to do once the Plummer is finished I had a frozen pipe.
There was nothing I could do and the guy said I called just in the nick of time before
major damage. I have never had a winter like this. I know many around the country had a
first time for things to happen. OZ is around 45 degrees as I type this note and that is a heat
wave compared to being frozen for weeks. 😎🎈

Good afternoon. So thankful that the “bump” in the road is going down.

It will be in the 60s today, but 40s tonight. However, our “Wolf” Moon shone brightly in an orange and yellow last night. So gorgeous. Best of all, it followed my car all the way home.

Hubby was wonderful last night. All smiles. I stopped at the Asian take out on the way to see him. Picked up his favorite soup which is the “Hot and Sour.” Loved every drop. He had a full dinner, so he wasn’t hungry for anything else. Showed him the pictures of a scooter that looked like a small car. However, it can only be driven on a sidewalk. Cute little “bugger” with windshield wipers for the front and back, headlights and automatic doors. Actually, the doors and windows open with a remote or using the buttons on the inside. Since he won’t be able to drive anytime soon, this would serve a purpose and would make him mobile and thus independent. He will also be able to go grocery shopping in this vehicle as long as he uses the sidewalk. Not for road use. Thankfully, all he will need is an ID card from MV.. He will be able to carry both his walker and wheelchair in the scooter. It runs on batteries which can be plugged into any outlet. So many new possibilities for those that are handicapped. It is all coming together and I will put some of these into motion as soon as I’m told he will be returning home. For some I need 2 days notice, for others a week. Still have a bed issue. Love our new mattress and box spring and the metal bed. However, hubby will probably need a bed that can adjust to an upright position at the head and something for both legs. I will need something similar for the house in the North as well. The research I have done is exciting to see. What started me on this path was the wheelchair HSN is selling. What an adventure this has been.

Time for some household chores. Oh, before I forget. Not sure about Trivia since so many are still locked out of Community. It is a relatively easy sign in process, if you can remember your new password. I just wish that this can be readjusted to the web site. Oh well, guess we will have to take the lemons before we can enjoy something sweet.

I hope you have not run into any Bobcats on the trail. I would enjoy the view but keep an
eye out. I live in a woodsy area with lots of critters so me and Poppy are always on the
lookout. I enjoy walking and getting those endorphins going. 😎🎈

Taci the HD Suite my husband brought me is beyond beautiful. If HD is on during the
evening hubby will sit and watch the show with me. Taci you know this story HSN showed

and Heidi Daus and they made some really nice comments. My husband was so surprised
and so was I as I had no idea they would post and talk about it on TV. Taci this was when
we were on the Sparkle Sisters Jewelry Thread. 😎🎈Taci all women love Jewelry. 😎😘

I have over 500 pieces of Heidi Daus Jewelry I keep them in order by the color way. 💕

Sheba, so far so good and he went Snowboarding and said the food is very good. I am having trouble here with having to change my pw everytime , so if I don’t post as much until this is resolved you know why. I have once again changed my hiking route not that it will matter since there are lots of people walking and biking in the area. I’m sticking to the side with most people and cutting the hike a bit short for now. Like you I really want to be outside. We’ve had some great sunny days with lots of rain forecast for Thursday.
It’s so sweet that Mr. Sheba watches Heidi with you. You have a long history of collecting and having so many pieces is amazing. I remember when we had the Sparkle thread and when you said they showed the armoire, and when others called into her show. It’s good you have a dedicated room for your collection.

Fitness goals are helpful to have — we all want to feel healthy, strong, and able. Goals give us motivation to keep going, to see what we’re capable of. DATA PRIVACY DAY
Data Privacy Day on January 28th reminds us each year to review how our data is used. It’s an excellent opportunity to take stock and evaluate our personal cybersecurity.

Our personal data is collected and used through a variety of media and for numerous reasons. Part of the problem is most of the time, the people who have access to our data, don’t need it. Additionally, it gets redistributed legally and illegally. Thanks to the internet, massive amounts of personal data can be easily distributed. While the information may be out there due to our own carelessness or privacy violations, there are steps you can take to protect yourself.

On any new device, set your privacy settings immediately. This includes new applications, social media, and programs.

Never use unsecured WiFi – especially for banking or shopping.
Check your bank and credit card statements regularly. When you spot anything questionable, contact the organization to stop payment on the purchase and cancel your card. In the same vein, check your credit report at least annually.

Keep your software up to date. Out-of-date software is vulnerable to hackers.
Never give personal information over the phone, email, or text.
Stop taking online quizzes that ask random questions about your childhood, children, tattoos, marriages, pets, and favorite foods. Each time you take one of these, people trying to access your data gather a little bit more information about you that allows them to steal your data or identity.

Use strong password phrases. The longer the password, the harder it is to break.
Do not save your passwords on your device.
Change passwords when your accounts may have been compromised or when you visit the dentist.

Use virus protection and a firewall.

Thanks again for the birthday greetings. And congratulations to you four on your team winning and going to the Super Bowl.

It is quite cold here in Florida. Temps are in the low 50s and I suspect it will be in the forties when I get up and start doing some things. It will be in the low 60s for the highs, and low to mid 40s for the lows.

I’m still working in the kitchen and doing laundry. I try to work about two hours or more before getting ready to see hubby or going food shopping. Our new Farmer’s Market is beautiful. A similar layout to the others except in the middle near the bakery section is hot and cold food takeout area. They also make pizza and I bought two cheese pizzas last week and they were pretty good. However, quite small and that is why the two. Tomorrow will purchase a couple of Asian soups to go and maybe another dish or two besides. I will not be able to use our oven until I do the self clean. I will take advantage of the cold temps to do so. The cabinets on one side are done and now the counters beckon. Progress is slow when other things crop up.

Hubby has Physical Therapy during the week. The progress is slow, but there is a difference in the way he moves. He had a leg brace on all day on Friday. They are hoping that may help with some movement of the left leg. Today I actually saw some movement of that leg, so maybe this is helping. While in a wheelchair, he can walk with both legs. In bed, the left leg is bent. If the muscles and ligaments can return to an almost normal position, he may have use of that leg. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. We have a meeting with the group on Thursday for the update. He wants home so badly to help me. However, he does not realize his limitations. But, an extra pair of hands just may help in the long run and will give him an incentive to try and do more. And, yes, if need be, I will see that he continues with PT at home.

I have priced vans for the handicapped. Unfortunately, there is only one dealership and the prices are steep. Actually, the starting price is over $120k. $55K + for a used vehicle. If hubby can learn to sit in a chair then I can teach him how to get into the van/car without a problem. It’s the left knee and it would be the leading foot to get into the vehicle. If he could learn to sit with his feet dangling, then he might be able to maneuver himself into the car/van. I also will need to change our metal bed for one similar to those in a hospital. Oh how I love this new mattress. Guess I will need to transfer it to our guest bedroom. But, what I am learning has so many good benefits for both of us.
