Conversation – 22

  • Sheba2011
  • 12.15.23 3:39 PM

Hello Peeps time for a new Conversation Thread. This is number 22 out of the
series. I created and started this thread nearly 10 years ago.
I will change it often from now on. This is just a knock around
thread about things in life. My life and others. I am an avid Heidi
Daus Collector, former singer, model and so on. I do this thread because
I enjoy what I do. I love fashion and music and HSN is a little of both.
I cover a lot of music and fashion on this thread. ✨😎

I am going to wish Happy Holidays to all the Peeps out there and please
stay safe. 🌹✨😎

Do You Hear What I Hear?
Song by Pentatonix and Whitney Houston

What I hear (what I hear)
Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy
“Do you hear what I hear?” (hear what I hear?)
Ringing through the night, shepherd boy
“Do you hear what I hear?”
A song, a song, high above the tree
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea
Now said the shepherd boy to the mighty king, mm
“Do you know what I know?” (do you know what I know?)
In your palace, warm, mighty king (mighty king, do you know?)
“Do you know what I know?” (do you know what I know?)
Oh, a child, a child, shivers in the cold (shivers in the cold)
Let us bring Him silver and gold
Let us bring Him silver and gold (silver and gold)
      Oh yeah
      Oh
Said the King (said the King), to the people everywhere (everywhere)
      Yeah
Listen to what I say (listen to what I say)
Pray for peace (peace), and people everywhere (everywhere)
      Oh yeah
Listen to what I say (listen to what I say)
Oh, child, oh, the child, sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light, yes
He will bring us goodness and light
      Oh yes, He will
      I know He will
      Oh yes, He will
      And do you hear?
      Do you hear?
      Do you hear?
      Do you know?
      What I know?
      What I hear?
      What I hear?
      Do you know?
      Do you know?
      Do you know?
      Said, do you know?
      I know

Girls this was my Thanksgiving Look in Colorado. I wore two of the French Cuff Bracelets. 😎🎈

I have had this set for years brought most right here on HSN. Love Heidi Daus. 🎈😎💕

      @sheba2011

Love the necklace and remember it on HSN.

I know you have glitches. I think it is being caused by the sun and the fact that a storm is brewing. It’s definitely not you and probably not HSN. I am having problems with the Arcade and Recaptcha. Contacted Spectrum. Seems they are having some issues. Having a computer is so frustrating. Today is one of them.

      @oodiebom,

Good afternoon I know it’s not me but it is a technical issue. Very annoying I am not sure
what causes it but it happens. 😎

I just move on in these cases. I hope your day is going well. 🎈

Heidi Daus has a great sale going on. 💕😉

I hope your hubby is getting closer to coming home. Oodie it’s time he comes home if he
is able to do all that he needs to do. Tell me are the contractors finished with all their work?

I know you have many irons in fire. Be safe out there today.

This reminds me of all your fruit you buy there at the Market. 💕

      @taci,

Good morning in S. California Taci I don’t like the Coyotes but they do visit my porch
sometimes I have stared them straight in the eye. Please be careful.

I hope your son has a great time snow boarding. Taci Colorado is my entire family
I only did not go because of Covid-19 and many in my family had Covid-19 and I was
advise to stay home. I am never going to let time go by without going to see my family.

I have had some family members visit me but there is no place like being there. 😘😉😎💕

I am getting a lot of things in order in my life and I am coming back to the land of the living
no more fear. Covid was the only thing standing in my way.

Taci thank you for the prayers about the BC. I did enjoy my time with my sister all you need
is a great view and tea. LOL! This sister and all my sisters were happy to see me I have four
sisters. 😘We all have the same mom and dad. 😉😎

Hey Happy Trails To You. 🎶🎶

Your eyes are not playing tricks on you this is a new thread. I will leave it at that the glitches
      are annoying.

      @shoelady60,

Good day in the ‘burgh. How are you doing today? Lady my Nativity Scene which I have
had for years is stunning. This is a high end 10 piece set. I brought it from a neighbor who
let me have it for next to nothing she wanted a good home for it. 😉🎈😎

As you can see I had to start a new thread wish the glitch would have happened after
Christmas I was going to change it anyway oh well such is life.

I am multi-tasking today Oz is raining as I type this note to you.

Sending warm holiday cheers to you and Jake’s Canvas. 😘😉

      Different Ways of Knowing

Common sense — while not always officially rewarded, has its own special genius.

We human beings have many ways of knowing what we need to know in order to get through our lives. One way of knowing things is to engage in a course of study in an academic environment. Another way of knowing things is simply to go through the experiences that come our way, making a conscious effort to learn from them. A third way in which people gain knowledge is through the vehicle of intuition, a gift some have more than others, but which can be developed in anyone. No one way of knowing things is better than another way, and they can all be useful at different points in our lives.

Most of us naturally gravitate toward one way of knowing over others, and this tends to be clear early in our lives. For the most part, we live in a culture that values a logical, mental approach to knowing things, so those with intuitive gifts may have been shamed, undervalued, or misunderstood in our ways. Many of us are working our way out of this incorrect value judgment, recognizing that our intuition, far from being wrong or untrustworthy, is a great gift. For those of us who conduct our learning in the thick of our life experiences, we may also have to make an extra effort to remind ourselves that our particular intelligence — often called common sense–while not always officially rewarded, has its own special genius.

Even though, in a given time or place, certain types of intelligence tend to be valued more than others, no way of knowing is inherently better than another. Once we understand this, we can value our own intelligence, as well as the different intelligences of the people we encounter. Sometimes, just understanding that we are coming at the same issue in different ways helps us to avoid an unnecessary conflict. When we value all ways of knowing equally, we benefit not only from what we have learned, and how we have learned it, but from all the other forms of intelligence we are open to honoring. AMEN! 😎

      @sheba2011

I know I say this all the time…….always something. Just like my computer the other day which was not my fault.

My mom also has a beautiful nativity set. I will have to check and see how many pieces in her set. Mom is extremely religious so she has many Jesus/Mary/angels, etc. around the house.🙏

Beautiful day, looks like Spring except for the bare trees. We will be getting your rain on Sunday. Staying home today and getting small chores done. Hubs flew down to visit his sister for the weekend so it’s me, myself and I for a couple days. I can read in the bedroom with the light on tonight.😄

Did you see that Pennsylvania declared 2023 as the Taylor Swift era? What a year for her.✨

Thanks for your continued work on this thread, appreciate all you do.😇 Have a wonderful Friday, hugs back to you and your menagerie.🤗💖

      @shoelady60,

Good evening I sure did see that article and some news person is trying to cancel her.
I call BS leave Taylor alone she does a lot of good with her monies. I am not saying that because
she spends part of her time in OZ I was into Taylor long before Travis. 💕😘

Enjoy this time with your books and whatever makes you feel good.

      Goodnight my friend. 😉😎🎈

      • 12.16.23 3:50 AM

Sheba, Happy new thread. The pictures remind me that it is December. Those HD cuffs are lovely and wonderful that you wore them on Thanksgiving. Glad things are moving forward for you and activating!
The Coyotes I see seem to look like little kids caught or they just ignore me. Only once did one come out and watch me pass by and I suspected it was a nearby den. This would be entirely different if I had a pet. They know all the houses with pets and frequent them for feeding opportunities. I would like to see some kind of birth control program for them as the population is very healthy and growing.
I took a look at the Heidi Daus website and of course saw many lovely items but I am really holding off except for the occasional pieces.

      • OODIEBOM
      • 12.15.23 8:18 PM

      @Sheba

I slept in a chair last night due to the mattress causing severe back pain and my sinuses didn’t like being so close to the floor. The new mattress was delivered about a half hour ago and one good thing is that you do not sink at the edge. I have a handyman coming tomorrow morning to see what he can do with the bed frame since the box spring doesn’t completely cover one end. This is due to hubby taking on the task of putting it together himself rather than have a professional do it. We have a friend not far from us who bought a sleigh bed from the same furniture store. He tried putting that together himself as well and finally gave up and contacted a professional. What actually happened is that the store took out the correct nails and put in ones that do not hold the frame together that well. I never knew that there were different nails for bedding. Anyway, in both our cases the store went belly up soon after we purchased the items, so we couldn’t return or get someone to help us. There are quite a few businesses on the Internet that do this and will contact them if my handy person cannot help.

Everything is now completed with the contractors. I will need to have the interior painted at some point and of course new furniture is desperately needed. I still am fledging on whether to install a ramp or new stairs leading to the front door. The handy person thinks a ramp would be fine, however, if hubby will be in a wheelchair he thinks I should hire someone to push him and the chair up the ramp. His feeling is that the wheelchair will be too cumbersome as I get older. An alternative to that would be a cart which hubby could manage on his own. It will need to be recharged on a daily basis, but that may be easier. Then again, it will depend on the weight of the electric motor. Hubby is determined to try to walk with therapy. I have also placed a call to his orthopedist to see if he has any suggestions. I forgot that they close early on Fridays, so will not expect a call back before Monday.

I am now getting read y to visit our new Farmer’s Market. I surmise it is a mad house, but tomorrow is torrential rain, wind with a possibility of a tornado. Homes in Florida do not have a basement. I may go early tomorrow to be with hubby.

I’m not sure about Trivia. Spectrum expects outages beginning tonight. The wind could be similar to category 1 or 2 hurricane. However, this is not a hurricane because it has no tropical beginnings. Now on my way. I am tempted to just have a conversation thread until after the holidays. We shall see. I will have a Kindle with me tonight.

The True Meaning of Christmas (recited by Linus)

Linus’ speech about the true meaning of Christmas is the highlight of A Charlie Brown Christmas. Retrieved from The Bible, King James Version, Book 42 Luke, Chapter 2, verses 8 to 14.

Retrieved from A Charlie Brown Christmas:

“I guess you were right, Linus. I shouldn’t have picked this
little tree,” said Charlie Brown. “Everything I do turns into
a disaster. I guess I don’t really know what Christmas is
all about. Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas
      is all about?”

“Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about,”
said Linus. [Linus walks to center stage.]

      “Lights, please.”

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding
in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them,
and the glory of the Lord shone round about them:
      and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold,
I bring you good tidings of great joy,
which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour,
      which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe
wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the
heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace,
      good will toward men.

      –Book 42, Luke (002:08-14)
      The Bible, King James Version

My relative is leaving this world this song is for her. 😘💕

      Hallelujah
      Song by Jeff Buckley/Leonard Cohen

I heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall and the major lift
      The baffled king composing Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips, she drew the Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Baby, I’ve been here before
I’ve seen this room and I’ve walked this floor
You know, I used to live alone before I knew you
And I’ve seen your flag on the marble arch
And Love is not a victory march
      It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
Well, there was a time when you let me know
      What’s really going on below
But now you never show that to me, do you?
But remember, when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath, we drew was Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Maybe there’s a God above
But, all I’ve ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you?
And it’s not a cry, that you hear at night
It’s not somebody, who’s seen the light
      It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah
      Hallelujah

      Winter Lady
      Song by Leonard Cohen

      Traveling lady, stay awhile
      Until the night is over
I’m just a station on your way
I know I’m not your lover
Well, I lived with a child of snow
      When I was a soldier
And I fought every man for her
      Until the nights grew colder
She used to wear her hair like you
      Except when she was sleeping
And then she’d weave it on a loom
Of smoke and gold and breathing
And why are you so quiet now
      Standing there in the doorway?
You chose your journey long before
      You came upon this highway
      Traveling lady, stay awhile
      Until the night is over
I’m just a station on your way
I know I’m not your lover

      Sparkling Stillness

As each snowflake is different, so are we, unique and functioning as part of a greater whole.
The first slight snow that kisses our wind-reddened cheeks each winter carries the same message that frosts have conveyed since time immemorial. This message is dualistic in character; on one hand, winter’s growing chill compels us to rest and restore ourselves indoors, and on the other, snow, the most wondrous attribute of the winter season, beckons us outside to play and to reflect. Upon indulging this natural impulse, we emerge from our homes into the quietude created by a mantle of snow that blankets the ground, and find a scene painted in broad strokes of crystalline whiteness, embellished with bright highlights of silver and blue. The stillness envelopes us as the magical quality of the surreal landscape awakens profound feelings of peace within our souls.

Mother Nature’s perfect artistry is seldom more evident than in the magnificently balanced structure of the lovely and delicate six-sided flakes that cascade from the heavens. To walk through falling snow is to immerse oneself in life’s never-ending rhythms. We understand and accept that the snow beneath our feet, while tangible and powerful, is only one aspect of a larger cycle of world-altering weather events. The fluffy snowflake that floats to earth and joins its siblings brings the transient joy of leisurely days off and smiling snowmen, yet will one day experience a transformation in purpose. Without hesitation, as the weather grows warmer, each beautiful flake melts and becomes one with trickling rivulets, singing streams, and swiftly running rivers. Whereas, at the start of its existence, the snow serves to drape the world in beauty, it ends its season on earth by nourishing the land.

A Zen proverb states that no snowflake ever falls in the wrong spot. Whether you celebrate the snow by tossing snowballs, or losing yourself in the meditative serenity of the silently drifting flakes, take a moment to contemplate how much like the snow each of us is. We are born pure, but later take on the footprints of those we encounter. Akin to each snowflake, we are unique, and yet we function as part of a larger whole — forever in the right spot at the right time. And like the snow itself, our lives and the roles we play are impermanent, yet imminently valuable.

      AMEN! 😉😎

      @sheba2011

We have power, but the wind is the issue right now. I am debating whether to see hubby. Tornado warnings and thunderstorms tonight. The wind was the issue with the WIFI connections and may still be a problem.

I did go to the grand opening of the Farmer’s Market and it was wonderful. Everyone so helpful. Parking was not an issue. The look of the new store is on Facebook and you do not need to be a member to take a peek, The name of the market is Detwilers. Just google the name and you will come up with their locations and also the Facebook area. I did purchase my favorite fish which is Chilean Sea Bass. I have made it with panko, just spices and sometimes just in olive oil. It is a sweet fish if frozen the day it was caught. I will be returning to the store next week to purchase more. The price was good. Sheba, I think you can purchase this fish in Costco if you want to try i t. They have it for around $20-$25/lb. I purchased a smaller one at $10 each at the market. I was surprised to see a full service dinner take-out. The one thing I wanted was the Lobster salad roll. They had run out. I will try during the week. It’s on sale through the 23rd. The price was 2 for 20. I did not purchase the ice cream scoop, though they do have sugar free in all flavors. Their bakery section was awesome. You can actually watch them putting the ingredients together for their cookies, cakes, bread, etc.. Oven are on the premises.
The pizza area was delightful. I did not purchase at this time. Prices were good compared to the restaurants in town. They gave out tote bags at check out to their customers. I still like the one in Sarasota and will buy at both places.

Shoelady, having someone come to the house for PT is something I am looking at and may use. I placed a call to hubby’s orthopedist yesterday forgetting they work only a half day on Fridays. I was able to leave a message and may get a call on Monday. That’s one of my questions. The other one is to see if they can do the necessary knee surgery. The urologist doesn’t see why not since he was able to take the anesthesia without a problem. Actually, his brain is working better since then. However, he is still afraid to ask for help when needed. Guess you can say in that respect “I am a bad person.” Hmm…..I think I will wear my black hat to make it real time. LOL

Sheba, that cake looks luscious. Best part it isn’t fattening. I am watching what I eat and trying to lose weight. Yes, even during the holidays. By the way, they had whole lobsters on sale at the market. Only problem, too small. I usually purchase these when I’m North and look for 1 & 1/2 lbs. I have found if you go over 2lbs they are not as sweet. The last time I purchased one they were $6/lb at my other favorite market called Market Basket. Like you, the fruits and veggies are higher there than Florida.

I now will get the food together to see hubby. I did purchase some things for him yesterday and I forgot his grinder. He will have it today. I have a chicken salad and fresh veggies for mine. Dessert is at the Rehab. Wow!!! I was able to type all this without a problem. Not so sure about later. Hope you and Poppy have a great day. Shoelady, when you are ready, please get another pooch. I’m trying to get one as I type. Yes, losing one is hard to take, but the enjoyment that you get from them is hard to put into words. Let’s just say that each one has a personality to make you laugh and they are there for you when you are sad. That’s all I can say. Have a great rest of the weekend. This storm is headed your way. It’s crazy here. The wind is howling, but thankfully the rain is light. Just hope I do not have to return in a thunderstorm. Hubby always says I should stay over. Not a bad idea, but it is wishful thinking on both our parts.

      • 12.17.23 2:11 AM

      @oodiebom,

If the weather is bad they should not make you leave your husband. All that money they
are making off his stay should not affect you spending one night. I wish I were there.

Your part of Florida sounds yummy with all the fruit and goodies. My family thought I lost
too much weight I just don’t gain weight I do eat healthy and work out. 😉

I indulge in my favorites whenever I have a taste for something. However I do have a Costco
Card and will try the fish you recommend I love Fish. 😎

Oodie I hope everything is working alright for you tonight weather you went to see hubby
or not. Just be safe storms are not to be played with as far as driving in them.

      @sheba2011

I am home. Returned after 11pm last night. I did fall asleep in the chair and decided to leave before someone popped in to say it was time. As I left the Rehab, rain was falling in buckets. There was no wind at the time. I could barely see the road in front of me. Police cars were out in droves and that helped somewhat to circumvent the flooding. Huge puddles. The lanai is completely saturated as is the carport. So glad that I moved things into the shed before the storm. I will take the lanai completely apart on Wednesday since I have appointments both Monday and Tuesday. I need to wash the floor and the sides including the screens. It looks like a child had a great time playing in the mud. Thankfully, there were no tornados in our area. I have no idea if any sprouted on the East coast. The wind was worse on Friday and Saturday morning.I will be contacting the Rehab to let hubby know that I am OK.. Problem is they may not tell him. It depends on who is on duty. I did manage to find out the reason he was in bed for 4 days and no shower all week. The aids were too lazy to help him out of bed. It was easier to keep him there. Thankfully the LPN who happens to be a male got him out of bed yesterday at 4:30 pm when he came on duty. He even changed his linens. He asked me to bring the small vacuum with me today so we can do the mattress and wash it with a disinfectant following. He will get a shower tonight. Still this will be reported to administration and to the head nurse Monday. He has had no Physical Therapy and that will change immediately. He needs to be able to get in and out of bed himself. And speaking of bed, the new mattress and box spring are wonderful. First time in months no backache. I’m as good as new. The mattress with box spring is 21″ high. I need to work on ways for him to be able to get into and out of bed.

      @oodiebom,

You are so lucky I am not related to you. If I were all Hades would have broken out in that
rehab facility. No way should your husband had been in bed four days without a shower.

I have to catch my breath I don’t know how you do it. No PT I am going to let that go.
Heads would roll if they did that to my dad. How can something in Florida affect me
like this well we do have a family Condo there in Orlando and that is one of my father’s
favorite places. Dad was in a Rehab Facility and they had to shower him and do all the things
your husband suppose to have done. I take this very personal because my step-mom and I
along with my husband had eyes on dad. I would sit by his bedside and do this thread.

My father knew what I was doing this is one of the reason I post and work on this everyday.
      This is my father😘

Oodie glad the mattress is making you feel better. YAY! I hate the drive in the rain.
You have so much to do and every time you start another storm comes.

Oodie hang in there we both know this too shall pass.

      Off the Wall
      Song by Michael Jackson

When the world is on your shoulder
Gotta straighten up your act and boogie down
If you can’t hang with the feelin’
Then there ain’t no room for you this part of town
‘Cause we’re the party people night and day
Livin’ crazy that’s the only way
So tonight gotta leave that nine to five upon the shelf
      And just enjoy yourself
Groove, let the madness in the music get to you
Life ain’t so bad at all
If you live it off the wall
Life ain’t so bad at all (live life off the wall)
Live your life off the wall (live it off the wall)
You can shout out all you want to
‘Cause there ain’t no sin in folks all getting loud
If you take the chance and do it
There there ain’t no one who’s gonna put you down
‘Cause we’re the party people night and day
Livin’ crazy that’s the only way
So tonight gotta leave that nine to five upon the shelf
      And just enjoy yourself
Groove, let the madness in the music get to you
Life ain’t so bad at all
If you live it off the wall
Life ain’t so bad at all (live life off the wall)
Live your life off the wall (live it off the wall)
Do what you want to do
There ain’t no rules it’s up to you (ain’t no rules it’s all up to you)
      It’s time to come alive
And party on right through the night (all right)
      Gotta hide your inhibitions
Gotta let that fool loose deep inside your soul
      Want to see an exhibition
Better do it now before you get too old
‘Cause we’re the party people night and day
Livin’ crazy that’s the only way
So tonight gotta leave that nine to five upon the shelf
      And just enjoy yourself
Groove, let the madness in the music get to you
Life ain’t so bad at all
If you live it off the wall
Life ain’t so bad at all (live life off the wall)
Live your life off the wall (live it off the wall)
So tonight gotta leave that nine to five upon the shelf
      And just enjoy yourself
Come on and groove (yeah) and let the madness in the music get to you
Life ain’t so bad at all
If you live it off the wall
So tonight gotta leave that nine to five upon the shelf
      And just enjoy yourself
Come on and groove (yeah) and let the madness in the music get to you

      Nat King Cole Lyrics
      “The Christmas Song”

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright
Tiny tots, with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know that Santa’s on his way
He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother’s child is gonna spy
To see if reindeer really know how to fly

And so I’m offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it’s been said many times, many ways
      Merry Christmas to you

And so I’m offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it’s been said many times, many ways
      Merry Christmas to you

What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve
      Song by Ella Fitzgerald

When the bells all ring and the horns all blow
And the couples we know are fondly kissing
Will I be with you or will I be among the missing?
Maybe it’s much too early in the game
Ah, but I thought I’d ask you just the same
What are you doing New Year’s, New Year’s eve?
Wonder whose arms will hold you good and tight
When it’s exactly twelve o’clock that night
Welcoming in the New Year, New Year’s Eve?
      Maybe I’m crazy to suppose
I’d ever be the one you chose
Out of the thousand invitations you received
Ah, but in case I stand one little chance
Here comes the jackpot question in advance
What are you doing New Year’s, New Year’s Eve?
Ah, but in case I stand one little chance
Here comes the jackpot question in advance
What are you doing New Year’s, New Year’s Eve?
Oh, what are you doing New Year’s, New Year’s Eve?

Sheba, Hello! I bet Heidi is calling, especially with all those great sales. I have gone over to her site to take a look a few times. Be sure to let us know what you have your eyes on?
I have successfully honed, and downsized my jewelry and will still buy from time to time but not like the days of the Sparkle thread. Otherwise, I might need a new house…haha
Colleen’s boxes are next on the list but I need to organize a bit more.

      @taci

Thanks for your concern. I will be contacting our health insurance company tomorrow. They actually sent a letter the end of October stating that if he had physical therapy five days per week they would cover.. Funny, in a sense that the letter took a week to reach me and by that time the Administrator said it was too late. However, the head nurse said he would see what he could do and thus today I found his hands were tied. Now it may be too late, but I will let our insurance co. know what has been going on. I feel that the Rehab wants him there permanently, but that will never happen., Hubby is starting to speak up and yell. I had to tell him to simmer down and that together we will make it work. He realizes that he needs to be able to get in and out of bed on his own and also to be able to either use the walker or the wheelchair to get to the bathroom. Unfortunately, our HOA does not permit us to have someone here 24/7. The most someone could stay is two weeks. However, that may be just enough time to get him moving. Thankfully, I left a message with the orthopedist. I will update as things go along.

Oodie, Hope you are managing well with rain, rehab and remodels. I have to agree with Sheba on the rehab. Why don’t they have a small vacuum? and whatever they need? and Staff not helping your husband for 4 days should be reported to the Dept. of Health, State Board of Nursing, Medicare etc… Document. These rehabs and how they handle the older population needs to be exposed and reformed.
On a more pleasant note, The hummingbirds that are in my backyard go to the Aloe and Bird of Paradise plants the most, but also any blooms. I hope your yard will attract them soon.

I just returned home from the Rehab. Hubby is moving around a bit better. Today he wanted to try to use the bathroom and I panicked since he has not been able to stand without help. As it turned out, the head nurse was in and I approached him. He said he tried to get hubby physical therapy but it was turned down by the Administrator. Tomorrow I will be making the necessary phone calls to get him the help he needs so he can return home. There is no reason why he should not have the therapy, I also hope to hear from the orthopedist to see if we can try the therapy with his group. I actually feel they are better at this than the Rehab and hubby is on board. I know you would be fuming and arguing with me on this, but I find a gentle approach may be better. I don’t think an attorney would be helpful, though I am not ruling it out. Will update
as I continue on this new phase.

want him home. I only want the best treatment and healing he can get.

I hope you rest peacefully tonight on your new mattress and wake up refresh and ready to
      go another day.

I am letting my personal feelings get in the way. I hope everything works out and he is given

      @sheba2011

I wish I had a sister like you. Unfortunately I am it. I just mentioned to Taci that my first step will be to contact our health insurance company and to let them know what has been going on. Hubby should be able to walk and stand again with the right physical therapy. The orthopedic group I am using have high standards and are well known. I also want hubby to be well. Still not sure if having knee replacement surgery are in the cards for him. He has the beginnings of dementia that could become worse with the anesthesia. However, he did do well with the urologist and I am hoping that in itself will help with the next move. He does need this surgery, but there may be other alternatives and therapy is one of them. Just for your info, I am fuming. I just go about the situation a little differently. I have found that losing your temper does not always work in your favor. Being calm and thinking clearly goes a long way. The physician that the Rehab uses may also be in the wrong and this I will also need to find out. Whatever the physician states is what they follow. As far as bringing my vacuum. It’s a hand held Shark which I purchased from HSN.. The LPN and I will be cleaning the bed area together. Hubby will be in a wheelchair supervising. The linens will also be replaced and the sherpa blanket I will bring home and wash and return it the same day. I will actually stop there after Costco picks up the Stearns & Foster that we are not keeping. The new mattress actually has a lip or whatever you call it that goes around the entire area. This should prevent hubby from falling. At least I hope so. Being there with whatever we need to prevent hubby from itching is easy. This way I know the job has been done. There will be no more questions.

Tuesday I have an appointment for van maintenance. Besides an oil change I will probably need new tires and headlights. I will also have them adjust the brakes. Hubby is concerned that they will try to sell me something that we don’t need. If there was a way for him to get into and out of the van I would bring him with me. He would love a day away from the Rehab. Enough said. I will keep everyone up to date.

      Saying Yes to the Universe

Saying Yes to the universe opens the gate to receiving what your soul really wants.
The hardest thing about saying yes to the universe is that it means accepting everything life puts in front of us. Most of us have a habit of going through our days saying no to the things we don’t like and yes to the things we do, and yet, everything we encounter is our life. We may be afraid that if we say yes to the things we don’t like, we will be stuck with them forever, but really, it is only through acknowledging the existence of what’s not working for us that we can begin the process of change. So saying yes doesn’t mean indiscriminately accepting things that don’t work for us. It means conversing with the universe, and starting the conversation with a very powerful word — yes.

When we say yes to the universe, we enter into a state of trust that whatever our situation is, we can work with it. We express confidence in ourselves, and the universe, and we also express a willingness to learn from whatever comes our way, rather than running and hiding when we don’t like what we see. The question we might ask ourselves is what it will take for us to get to the point of saying yes. For some of us, it takes coming up against something we can’t ignore, escape, or deny, and so we are left no choice but to say yes. For others, it just seems a natural progression of events that leads us to making the decision to say yes to life.

The first step to saying yes is realizing that in the end it is so much easier than the alternative. Once we understand this, we can begin examining the moments when we resist what is happening, and experiment with occasionally saying yes instead. It might be scary at first, and even painful at times, but if we continue to say yes to every moment through the process, we will discover the joy of being in a positive conversation with a force much bigger than ourselves.

      AMEN! 😎🎈

Sheba, The Heidi set you want is lovely and well sized. Wowa!
I know you will look fab!
Today I had to trespass through an hole in a gate, and walk through a large parking lot to exit the trail. One coyote was at the top of a hill I needed for exiting. I think it was about to cruise the homes in the area for dinner. Considering a gym…. But i really love the area and the views.
Added some blackout curtains so my son could sleep better. He said they worked and seemed happy so I will get one more for another window.

      @taci,

I wrote a nice long note to you and it went poof. I will make this brief and write again
      tomorrow.

Be care during this season the animals there has been a change in the weather so they
are on the prowl. My cats are not late anymore they know other critters are out so they go
for safety and eat a good meal.

I agree with the blackout curtains our son has them in his room.

I have three large windows in my bedrooms so we put up wooden plantation blinds
I put a sheer between them and the curtains when are made out of satin and have
black out covers on the backside. I have a total of six in my rooms because I double the
three windows. In the summer they stay open to let in the sun and in the winter I close
them to help keep the heat in.

I hope your son sleeps well tonight.

The system knocked me off I am wishing you a goodnight. 😉

      @taci

I do not trust the rehab either. That also goes for Assisted Living and Convalescent homes. Thank goodness we have two vehicles. However, the second vehicle has not been used in over 2 years. Thankfully Triple came out and the battery is good. The not so good, car needs gas. Triple will come out tomorrow to start the battery again and will include some gas. I will then go to one of the wholesale clubs where gas is a bit less expensive. I will also make an appointment for an oil change and for other things that may be needed. The van will take up to two weeks for repair. As for a rental, the dealerships do not offer a loaner. I will need to visit some of the rent a car places. Probably will need to go to the local airport. It will be less expensive for me to use the second car. So happy that I didn’t give it away or do a donation.

I will be contacting the Rehab physician for an authorization for PT. So happens that this doctor is with the same team as our primary. Hopefully, I will see something started within a few days. I did hear from the assistant to the orthopedist and hubby has an appointment the beginning of January. The head nurse received a phone call from them as well for scheduling. Not sure if reconstructive surgery are in the cards. This group is one of the best and they have offices a few hours from our Cape home. However, all

surgery is performed in Boston. Another note on this is that the Head Nurse wants to wait until after this appointment to start any PT. I told him that we cannot wait on this. The sooner we start, the sooner he will be home. All I need is for him to be able to get in and out of bed himself. I have a wheelchair and a walker here if need be. For the bathroom, I will have handles on either side of the toilet to help him. There is also a commode we can use as well. Funny, I put it into the shower stall so he could sit when his back and legs gave out. The shower is easy in and out. Just a very small step that actually houses the sliding door.

I do have knowledge on the ramps. My only concern is how steep because the wheelchair is heavy and cumbersome. Also going down the chair does not have brakes and if hubby does this alone my heart will be in my mouth. I am also thinking about an electric cart similar to what you see in the markets. In Florida you see many ramps attached to the vehicle to house this while traveling. It also saves you pulling the thing apart in order to fit in the trunk of a vehicle. The electric motor is quite heavy. Another possibility is a three wheeled folding bike. This would make traveling more accessible for sightseeing or for a cruise. Best part, the person using these will never feel left out or handicapped. There are quite a few possibilities out there. You just have to do a study.

Thanks again for your concern and advice. Looks like we are all on the same wave length.

      @sheba2011

Here is an update. I made a call to our health insurance company and found that everything is a lie and will be straightened out beginning today. Hubby is supposed to have physical therapy. Rule is at least one hour per day, five days per week. The head nurse/unit manager can make a phone call to obtain the authorization. He will be bypassing the Administrator’s, but that is OK. Evidently, that office has been holding things back and of course I didn’t do anything about it since PT would have been difficult with a catheter. Also, they will be contacting the Department of Health in Flor ida to have them do a check on the Rehab since hubby was in bed 4 days in a row and no shower. The answer I received from the aides was “that it is too difficult to move him from bed to chair. ” This was enough to get their dander up. I was to say the least, very impressed with the Health Insurance. Also, hubby had a fall this morning. He was trying to get to his wheelchair so he could get to the bathroom. He is OK. No broken bones, no scratches, no aches or pains. I also gave this info to the Insurance Co.

Stearns and Foster was picked up a half hour early today. The one thing I need to say is that the mattress would have worked better with the box spring. Not having one made it lie too close to the floor and then it sank when you sit on the edge. This one is firmer and my backache is non existent when I awake.

On another note: when it rains it pours. Well, it did so today. My neighbor told me that the front bumper on one side was coming down. I took a look. Seems someone may have hit me either while I was in Rehab visiting hubby or while I was shopping Friday. No note on the windshield and no way of knowing who did the damage. Not sure if there are cameras covering the parking lot. So now I am waiting for Triple to have the car towed to the dealership. Meanwhile, I will need a loaner so I can visit hubby.

      @oodiebom,

Good evening I do not like someone hitting your Van and don’t leave any kind of info.
I know you have a lot you are dealing with and don’t need this at this time.

I bet it happened during the storm I am so sorry.

I am glad you have some good answers to your questions about your husband’s treatment
      plan. Go Oodie!

I know you are tired I would rest on the new mattress with a good book and I hope the
Dealership gives you a loaner. 🎈 I feel for you sincere concern here.

Please let me know how today went the whole country is in a weather pattern.
Oz had rain we were dry as a bone. We really needed it. 💕

Enjoy a good book or whatever you feel like doing.

Oodie, I don’t trust these rehabs. Glad your Insurance Company responded to your needs. By the way, I don’t know about insurance but I know someone who just had her 2nd hip replacement, and both times PT came to her house. She lives happily alone and one of her kids stayed with her for a day or 2 just in case. You can also add ramps for Wheelchairs, they don’t have to be major ramps just ones that cover the doorways. I know you have checked into it but ask your insurance to help more.
Hope your husband is doing well and you too!

      Welcome Winter Solstice

In our hearts we burn warm with all that wintertime offers and all we hold dear.
In times past, the bare-limbed trees, long nights, and biting chill of winter signified to all that the time had come to slow down. Humanity emulated the animals, retreating into cozy dwellings where they sustained themselves on foods harvested late in autumn and passed the time in peaceful reflection. Today, most people proceed ruddy-cheeked through winter’s frosts, ignoring the profound effects cold weather has on their bodies and their minds. Yet the beauty and significance of wintertime cannot be so easily overlooked. As the temperature plummets, leaving the air crisp and the landscape bare, we tend to crave warmth and relish rich foods. The presence of loved ones seems more comforting when blustery winds rattle window panes and we feel compelled to conserve our energy by engaging in only the most soothing of activities.

Though your daily schedule may remain more or less the same no matter what time of year it is, you will find in winter many opportunities to honor the way in which you are impacted by this most magical of seasons. At first glance, the world may seem desolate during the coldest months. Yet there are many unique and stimulating sensory experiences to be had — in the intricate beauty of individual snowflakes, the patterns of frost that form on your windows, the tang of smoke from wood-fueled fireplaces, the crunch of freshly fallen snow under your feet, and the briskness of the air. Don’t be afraid to venture joyfully out into the cold and the snow as you may have when you were a child. A tingling and reddened nose is a small price to pay for a clear mind and invigorated soul. If your body articulates a desire to rest, give yourself permission to spend your free time reading, writing in your journal, daydreaming, engaging in artistic pursuits, playing board games, working a puzzle or meditating.

Many plants, like the tulip and the apple tree, would not blossom in the springtime were it not for the period of dormancy that is the gift of winter’s chill. Their example can inspire us to use this season of slumber to cleanse ourselves of spiritual and emotional detritus, like flora shedding lifeless foliage, so that we may emerge from under the frost refreshed and renewed when spring arrives. AMEN! 😎🎈😉

It looks like Christmas here. Got a coating of snow last night, grass, deck and trees covered but our roads are fine.❄ Husband got home late afternoon yesterday. I was a little worried because the weather people said 1-2 inches starting midday so thought the roads may be covered. But the plane was on time and the snow started after he got home.

Spending Christmas eve with mom and sis. Going for early dinner, mass and mom’s house. Christmas day at SIL and BIL house.🎄🎅 Thanks for the shoutout – another hold your breath ’til the end game, yikes.😬

      @Sheba

In all the years I have been driving, no car accidents. This is my first time ever contacting our auto insurance company. I have no idea who hit me and didn’t notice anything different on Friday. I am hoping I won’t need a loner. There is a second vehicle here that has not been driven in two years. I have space for two cars, but they are back to back. I contacted Triple on that vehicle yesterday and I know that the battery is in good working order. I will definitely need an oil change and the tires looked at. However, one slight other problem. NO GAS. It must have disintegrated due to the hot humid weather in Fl.. Triple will be coming out to recharge the batter y and hopefully give me enough gas to get to either Sam’s Club or Costco. I will also need to sign some papers at the dealership. Other than that every thing is OK..

I will be contacting hubby’s rehab physician today. I need her/him to give the authorization for the PT.. He has an appointment with the orthopedist the first week in January and they have already notified the Rehab. Unfortunately, they want to wait on this appointment before beginning PT and that is why I need to contact the physician. I hope I can convince him/her that this is vital. Even though I am having problems with Rehab, I will still pickup something for the nurses unit and also for the Reception area. There are some real nice people in this group.

It looks like a fight to get hubby the PT and my boxing gloves are on as well as my voice. He fell trying to get to his wheelchair so he could use the bathroom. Though he fell, it is showing me that he wants to come home and I will take all steps necessary to do just that. He actually will be better off in home with some help with visiting nurses and home health aides. I do have a person to help me clean and she will start after my hubby’s appointment.

Weather wise, it is very cold here with temps in the mid 50s and going into the 40s tonight. Minus 10 degrees and that is what it would feel like if I was driving North. This will last only until tomorrow and then we will be within range of normalcy.

Lots of rain made it look like a flood in my carport. The lanai got hit with mud and sand and that includes the furniture. When the temps warm up a bit I will need to bring everything outside to be soaped down and rinsed. That includes the new rugs. But since the rugs are for outdoor use they can take a good washing and dry in no time. At some point I will need to find some pillows for the settee and one chair. Both are wicker. And, yes, I will power wash the lanai after a good sudsing. Alot on the table (so to speak), but as you know my first concern is hubby.
Will write more later. Meanwhile, I hope you four have a great day and a beautiful walk. Glad your son is staying through the New Year. Wouldn’t it be nice if he could stay longer. I am sure Poppy will miss him.
